Governor Palin on Glenn Beck - VIDEO ADDED

Update: Allahpundit of Hotair.com has posted the video and added his own commentary. However, AP has completely distorted the interview and is obviously ignorant of the facts. He claims that Palin is attempting to "play nice" with President Obama in order to receive money from the "stimulus."

AP Writes:

"Five minutes of highlights from tonight’s Glenn Beck debut placing the 'Cuda in the accommodationist camp with Tim Pawlenty and, presumably, any other governor who might need a bailout or two down the line."

This is a complete falsehood on the part of Hotair.com. Governor Palin has sent a letter warning her congressional delegation on the risks posed to the nation's financial health by Obama's economic plans. She is receiving grief from Alaska's new senator for "not asking for enough federal money." And she is on the record claiming that increasing the national debt may cause the collapse of the American economy.

We posted about it here:

Begich unhappy with Gov. Palin

Palin warns that adding to national debt can lead to collapse of the economy

JR: I did not care for the first question. The second question was fine because it allowed Palin to end on a happy note on an issue that many people love and respect her for.

Satellite interviews are not very good. Too many uncomfortable pauses between the host and the guest. This may cause the guest to "jump the gun" on a question.

Jim62sch writes:

All in all, pretty good. Beck screwed up one of the audience questions, by saying "with an Ivy League degree" instead of "without an Ivy League degree".

The Guv must have been thinking "what kind of a question is that?"

I agree Jim, maybe this is a problem with live television shows?

ramrocks: The Guv mentioned her daughter Willow's astute comments about the punitive nature of taxing the most successful members of society. I think we can safely assume that the Guv ain't raising any "Ron Reagan Juniors." Thank God for that!

Question: She wasn't actually outside, was she?

That question about ivy leaguers was very odd. Was the questioner asking how can a person with an ivy league degree make it in politics? Huh?! Maybe he/she is unaware of the fact that most of our power brokers have ivy league degrees. I hardly think ivy leaguers are being discriminated against. I am half tempted to believe that the question was a prank of some sort.

Next question: Did she mispronounce "mucky muck" or was she using some term that I've never heard before? Or perhaps that was just her accent.

JR: Speaking from the east coast, I have never heard the term "mucky muck" before. I mentioned above that I really did not like the first question and Beck may have messed up in the delivery of it. But it was a nice interview and "mistakes" will be quickly forgotten tomorrow when THE ONE is placed on his throne. This interview was clearly aimed at the people who already support her, so no big deal.

ramrocks: Our friend Jim clarifies the ivy league question:

I read the question when it was up on the screen. The person was asking "How can someone without an Ivy League degree make a difference?" or something along those lines. Beck read it as "with an Ivy League degree" which made the question nonsense. It could have been a great opportunity for the Guv to talk about getting involved in politics at the grassroots level like she did. Instead she was left scrambling trying to extemporize a response to a question that must have seemed nonsensical to her. The Ivy League people run the country - why would one of them asking how to make a difference?

Excellent catch, Jim! Thank you

And Jim makes another great catch:

I grew up in the Upper Midwest, where the people all talk the characters in "Fargo" (a lot of the immigrants to the Mat-Su Valley came from that part of the country) and people still use the expression "muck-a-muck", though it's becoming less common.

She said it as "mock-a-mock" to my ears, but maybe that's just her accent.

Yes, that must be it. It was a regional thing all the way around -- accent and idiom. This reminds me of her use of the phrase "off high center." Someone from the frozen North had to explain that to me.

Welcome to everyone from Hot Air. Please feel free to join the discussion here.

JR: Did you notice how Palin mentioned her daughter when discussing capitalism and Obama's tax policy? Even a teenager understands how free market economics works and Obama does not. Brilliant move by the 'Cuda there.

Watching now - Karl Rove says Obama is presumptuous with his Abraham Lincoln self-comparisons. I can't agree more, Karl.

Jim62sch,  January 19, 2009 5:42 PM

Aaaand Beck calls her a "hot grandma". Sigh. Can any male talk to her or about her without calling her hot? Would he say that if Todd Palin were sitting next to her?

Anonymous,  January 19, 2009 5:51 PM

Thank you so much for providing this link. It allowed someone living 6000 miles away the chance to see the governor live. Loved her enthusiasm! Keep up the good work Joseph. Appreciate ya!

Beck is kind of a blowhard; I wish he had left more time for reader questions than just self-pontifications. She seemed to be in a pretty darn good mood. My biggest complaint with the fox news crew is that they all love to hear their own voices and that's why the guests get shafted in the amount they can get across.

I thought she did well though! Wish she had gotten across more of what she was doing in her state; Pawlenty was able to get that across with Cavuto just before Beck.

Jim62sch,  January 19, 2009 6:05 PM

Anon - yes, it was disappointing that she didn't get to talk about Alaskan issues at all, really.

JR January 19, 2009 6:07 PM

At least she was able to mention energy and her defense of Captitalism was awesome

ousoonerfan15 January 19, 2009 6:11 PM

didnt beck say she was going to be on hannity tonight too??

mel January 19, 2009 6:12 PM

"Sigh. Can any male talk to her or about her without calling her hot?"

I think you're about the only one, Jim. A man of honor. I've noticed that Ziegler has talked about her being hot several times when discussing her.

Anonymous,  January 19, 2009 6:12 PM

I'm actually feeling Anderson Cooper as a guy who she should go on with in the future. His liberal wittiness could go along well with her conservative sassiness. He has a show at 10:00 PM, so she could do it after she gets off work at 6:30. The MSNBC audience is the loony left but the CNN audience has some moderates and independents who think Fox is too conservative. Anderson and Wolf would be the two CNN guys that I would talk to if I were her.

I like satellite interviews, watching it live creates more drama! I really don't think these Fox News guys are doing her much favors anymore; they aren't asking her the right questions. The Fox crew is too into themselves and the agenda and that they are trying to get across, which is the not necessarily her agenda.

Dave C January 19, 2009 6:12 PM

Is Fox News on that Blink o Tv all the time?

I missed the show here.. I was planning on looking for a repeat..

Jim62sch,  January 19, 2009 6:16 PM

The more I look at that interview, the less I like it. Beck's first question "Is Barack Obama your president?" was just dumb. What did he think she was going to say - "No, he's not my president! Segregation now, segregation forever!" It seems that every public figure is being forced by the media to say how great Obama is, and I don't like it.

I did like her talk about Trig in response to the second question, she came across as warm and genuine. "fat baby with glasses", LOL. But the line about her learning more from Trig than Trig will learn from her is going to get YouTubed and mocked by the cruel haters.

ramrocks January 19, 2009 6:20 PM

Yes, Fox is on Blinko 24/7. It's a little secret I discovered during the election. Enjoy, but don't spread the news too much... or they'll take it away!

ousoonerfan15 January 19, 2009 6:21 PM

haha the questions were just fine. jeez he asked her several different topics. The interview was fine and Sarah did GREAT as always.

JR January 19, 2009 6:22 PM

"But the line about her learning more from Trig than Trig will learn from her is going to get YouTubed and mocked by the cruel haters."

Ah, screw those losers

ramrocks January 19, 2009 6:23 PM

I think the "hot grandma" thing was Beck's way of making a joke to keep himself from crying. He got seriously choked up talking about his son. I think it was probably the emotion and tension of doing his first live show on Fox. He's an emotional kinda guy.

I laughed because I heard his own staff people laugh/gasp when he said that comment. In fact my IM to JR was: "Did he actually just say that?!!!!"

Mel, you and I are the only people here who will be honest about this: she was having a bad hair day.

Jim62sch,  January 19, 2009 6:25 PM

"Mel, you and I are the only people here who will be honest about this: she was having a bad hair day."

She was standing around outside, after all. I did think she looked kind of wan, and she also looks like she's lost weight. Still cheerful and happy, though.

I really hope that the hatred and attacks don't get to her. Then again, maybe I worry too much, always have felt protective of her.

JR January 19, 2009 6:33 PM

Jim,

I am right where you are on that ... who says that Chivalry is dead?

I think she can handle the attacks and as long as we can work together here we can help her fight back!

ousoonerfan15 January 19, 2009 6:36 PM

so is she on hannity tonight too?

mel January 19, 2009 6:39 PM

ramrocks,

Ditto on the hair. She has great hair too. I'd kill for hair like that. Stop backcombing, Governor! In fairness, it's probably hard to do your own hair and have it look TV-ready. What was the name of the girl who did her hair on the road? Angela? I think she was from LA. Maybe you can call her and convince her to help a girl out.

About the weight, Jim: I couldn't tell that she's lost any since the campaign, but she definitely lost some during the campaign. In fact, a couple of articles from around the end of the campaign mentioned it, including this one: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122530113083680845.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

Oh, and anyone who says the Guv is a fashion plate just has to look at her hair in most interviews - not to mention the paisley pants from the 50th anniversary celebration (shudder). This is why I laugh when I still see nutroots complaining about the RNC clothes/stylists.

Love ya, Guv, but I almost wish you had kept some of those clothes. :)

K. Carpenter January 19, 2009 7:41 PM

I am totally lost on these comments. I just got home from work. Some of you complained an awful lot.

I am not sure I should even watch it after reading some of this stuff.

JR January 19, 2009 7:45 PM

K. Carpenter,

Please watch the interview .. we are just discussing what we got out of it. Most of use noticed that Mr. Beck made a mistake in asking Governor Palin the first "viewer" question, which led to "disorganized" answer.

All of the people who place comments here support the Governor.

mel January 19, 2009 7:56 PM

"Love ya, Guv, but I almost wish you had kept some of those clothes. :)"

Jim's into fashion: I love it! :)

crystalwolf aka caligrl,  January 19, 2009 8:17 PM

There is a crises going on in the Native Villages, her husband is a part Native, I would of thought she would of brought that up...They are having to choose between food and freezing...
I wonder why she didn't bring that up?

ramrocks January 19, 2009 8:34 PM

caligirl,

She mentioned that she will be doing a local interview later in the day. Perhaps she will mention it then.

No one is starving or frozen. Get a grip.

crystalwolf aka caligrl,  January 19, 2009 8:44 PM

Ramrocks,
Actually this blog addressed this issue:
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Facing a dire situation, residents of the village of Emmonak pleaded to state and federal officials Friday for help.

"The challenge we have out in Emmonak, it in many ways is really to an energy problem," said Joe Asuterman with the Alaska Department of Commerce. "The cost of living out there is very, very high."

There is a link on the blog:
http://www.ktuu.com/Global/story.asp?S=9690698
During a teleconference, some residents of the village in western Alaska said a bad salmon fishing season and high costs for heating oil are forcing villagers to choose between staying warm or buying food.
I don't understand how YOU can truthfully say no one is starving or freezing? Have you been there? Do you know something no one else including Gov. Palin know?

mel January 19, 2009 8:52 PM

"crystalwolf aka caligrl said..."

Any chance this discussion could cruise on down to the appropriate comment thread. There's a post about Emmonak if you'll scroll down the page. That might be a good place to debate the issue since there are other comments there about it. Just saying...

JR January 19, 2009 8:58 PM

crystalwolf,

What do you want the government to do? What happens when the next city "has a bad fishing season?" and the next and the next ... should the Governor bail them out too?

And you read the article, the core of the problem is the cost of energy, something that the Governor has been working hard on and it is a cornerstone of her administration ... read her energy plan ... you can find it on this site.

crystalwolf aka caligrl,  January 19, 2009 9:13 PM

JR & Mel,
Not saying the Government or Gov. do a "bail out" that is what Bush did for Wall street!
But She stated in her interview today she was "working for Alaska" and since this is a Urgent issue, after all her husband and children share Native or "First citizens" blood, I wondered why this wasn't brought up. Obviously everyone here wants to focus on her hair and makeup.
Oh, and she did look thinner. New glasses.
Working for All Alaskan's would mean she could possiblly declare a "State of Emergency" So they can get help. That is not a bail out. And I pray that none of you ever suffer through a hurricane, wildfire,or any other disaster and have to get "bailed out" Peace-out

JR January 19, 2009 9:16 PM

a "State of emergency"

for what? a town that can't pay its bills?

every city in the United States would be in "a state of emergency" if that were the case.

the city next to mine should be "in a state of emergency" ... but I don't see Trenton running to save them!

ramrocks January 19, 2009 9:16 PM

FYI, we've update the post to address eyeore's ridiculous claim that Palin is cozying up to Obama to get more stimulus money.

Really, the man has no shame.

Jim62sch,  January 19, 2009 9:21 PM

caligirl -

From what I've heard the villagers are getting some private assistance.

Have been watching the comments at the Anchorage Daily News about the crisis. People from the lower 48 are saying "Oh, how horrible" while people from AK are saying "they should have done a better job preparing for winter". After all, every person in Alaska was given $1200 this year specifically for energy costs. What happened to that money?

If Emmonak is no longer economically viable, they should, to paraphrase Sam Kinison, "move to where the food is".

ramrocks January 19, 2009 9:34 PM

Caligirl,

I live in California too. Every summer our electric bills go through the roof because we use our air conditioning more. Recall the Gray Davis "black outs" when the electric grid would go out. We didn't get any federal relief. But we managed.

The guv has said that she will visit the community, and I am certain that she qon't allow any one to "starve." When disasters happen, the government is not always the first or even the most efficient source of relief. The non-profit world is much better.

Jenny January 19, 2009 10:13 PM

I don't know about everyone else, but I thought Glenn Beck was fantastic on his first show.
He mouthed off on Rove when he said Compean and Ramos were felons, Glenn said "spinning" and snickered. AWESOME!!
Palin was excellent as usual. I love her comment about her son being the Michelin man with diapers.

Beck and Palin have a special connection with their kids. I betcha we'll see more interviews soon. Watch out Greta.

Also, will Beck be at CPAC? I think we can expect some more interviews. I really like Beck. He might steal Hannity's thunder. Beck is that awesome.

promachus,  January 19, 2009 10:23 PM

Ramrocks, leave here hair alone. I liked it very much. I was surprised too when Glenn said she was a hot grandma. You shouldn't say those things aloud, Glenn.

Since I am a supporter of capitalism above anything else, I am so thankful to the Gov,. for defending the system. it means so much when I am having daily nightmare about Gordon Brown.

Dave C January 19, 2009 10:26 PM

Ahh.. finally able to watch the interview..

Hot grandma.. That seemed to me a bit more of a joke between friends.. She's been on his show a few times even before she was Maverick's running mate..

Dave C January 19, 2009 10:31 PM

Man... Glenn did whiff that first question..

with / without..

Carlos Echevarria January 19, 2009 10:51 PM

"Caligirl" is definitely an ADN loving, Celtic Diva worshiping troller...

Look at this post at that Palin hating site:

http://www.divasblueoasis.com/showDiary.do;jsessionid=E5B2D1F5E4123317B95D8143724B8CB8?diaryId=417

Palin did very well, obviously there is a bond between Beck and her...that backdrop was spectacular!!!

Great to know that Willow is a Reaganite too, so maybe before it's Piper's time, she can be Senator or Governor, too!

As for AP, I must concede I have NEVER been a fan of his, what is the guy's real name anyways?, he has always been a Palin basher and I remember how he mischaracterized her position on illegal immigration, too back in late November.

ramrocks January 19, 2009 11:19 PM

Carlos,

I agree about eyeorepundit. i never liked his stuff -- even back when he was doing his anti-Muslim jokes. I thought he was a jerk and was borderline racist. I have Muslim friends, and I felt offended for them.

Promachus,

You have my sympathies on living under Gordon Brown. Do you think Cameron could beat him in the next general election?

Jim62sch,  January 19, 2009 11:36 PM

ramrocks, in regards to the British Tories, had you seen this article in The Sun after Sarah's convention speech?

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/columnists/fergus_shanahan/article1647092.ece

"Why oh why can't we have a Sarah Palin?" LOL - apparently, according to the article, the Tories don't exactly have much in the way of inspiring leaders. Kind of like the rest of the GOP aside from the Guv.

Dave C January 19, 2009 11:45 PM

Rocks...

I'm about done with hotair for the moment anyway..

his bashing of palin is one thing..

his attitude of zip code = intellect is getting close to the final straw

AoSHQ is a bit more palatable.. if more crash..

ramrocks January 19, 2009 11:54 PM

AoSHQ is definitely more "adult" content oriented and more crass. But I like it there better. They make me laugh.

I sometimes think we're a bit like the AoSHQ of the Palin blogosphere. We can be a little crazy here with our BARBARIC jokes.

ramrocks January 19, 2009 11:55 PM

Jim,

I hear you on the Tories. They've never been the same since they stabbed Maggie in the back. It was like the Red Sox selling Babe Ruth. There has been a curse on them ever since.

ramrocks January 19, 2009 11:55 PM

...But the Sox overcame their curse, so there is hope for the Tories!

mel January 20, 2009 12:11 AM

Re: The Tories,

I'm less than impressed with David Cameron. He's been good at positioning his party, but, in large part, he's managed to position them well because of Labour 'fatigue' and the current global problems. I'm not convinced that he has what it takes to really lead, but that's just my impression. I'd be interested to hear Promachus's thoughts on it.

Jem January 20, 2009 6:49 AM

Apparently I missed all the fun last night. Would you believe I don't have cable tv? It's too bad Glenn blew that question, because it was a good one. The woman wanted to know how, or maybe why, a 'regular person,' an outsider, would get involved in politics after witnessing the attacks on Sarah from the msm and pedigreed insiders.

Sarah was eloquent on Trig and the value of life. Every parent can relate to her enthusiasm about him. I love it.

Glenn invited the platitudes on Obama. I would have liked more substance and specifics on how to grow (and how not to grow) the economy, bring about energy independence, etc., but Glenn didn't go in that direction.

Now for important stuff: I'd like to weigh in on the hair. I thought it was interesting. Not bad. It's the first time I've seen her without bangs and I think she carried it off, though it's not my favorite style for her.

Jill

ramrocks January 20, 2009 2:19 PM

The KTUU interview makes clear that she was actually outside for this interview. Outside? In Alaska? In winter? Wow, maybe that global warming stuff is for real...

Either that or she's elven like Legolas and doesn't feel the cold of the Misty Mountains...

Actually, that last speculation could explain a lot -- the uncommon good looks and the ability to give birth and return to work two days later.

Quick question: has anyone seen her ears close up?
