CNBC's Rick Santelli is Fired Up! UPDATE: K-Lo Sees the Grassroots On Fire; UPDATE: A Request for Our Readers

Scroll down for updates!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE by Ramrocks:

K-Lo over at The Corner has
a great post on Santelli and Palin (so great that it makes up for the recent snarkfest at NRO):

Watch for the Palin-Santelli 2012 Signs [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

I've had a case of deja vu today.

I'm noticing the tone. I'm seeing the enthusiasm. And I'm digging out from the sheer volume of e-mails I've been getting today about that CNBC dude. The reaction to Rick Santelli's Chicago-trading-floor incident this morning echoes the emotional reaction my inbox had to Sarah Palin's convention speech this summer.

I make no endorsements. It's just an observation.

I think people are hungry for someone who is fed up with the way things are and who seem to believe in something enough to know there in an alternative worth fighting for. Some of the voices may be far from perfect, but Americans are looking for signs of the life of an alternative. And so if a representative pops up — someone who appears to have roots and energy, folks will cheer them on in the hopes there's a candidate here. Maybe not a presidential candidate, but a leader of some sort. Someone who can offer a vision of something other than a culture of bailout.

Today, Rick Santelli was that sign of life.

Thank you, K-Lo. We know you make no endorsements. That's okay. We thank you for recognizing that the grassroots does feel fired up and inspired by people like Palin and Santelli. All we want is for our voices and concerns to be heard.

We want leaders who will listen to us. In her
biography on Palin, Kaylene Johnson wrote:

On the campaign trail, Sarah didn't make promises she couldn't keep. At one meeting with a group of trawlers and processors on Kodiak Island, Sarah listened but respectfully disagreed on a particular issue. Volunteer Frank Bailey recalled that before wrapping up the meeting she told the fishermen, "At this point I'll understand if you decide to support my opponent. Regardless of that, if I become governor I want you to know that I respect your views and will continue to listen to your concerns."

The next morning, back at Anchorage campaign headquarters, the fishermen's group called asking for two large eight-foot "Palin for Governor" signs to display in Kodiak. "We've decided to support Sarah because we believe she'll listen," the caller said.

[...]

More than Sarah Palin's stance on any particular issue, the message that moved Alaskans was Sarah's simple promise:

"I'll listen."

We know she'll listen. That's one of the reasons why we love her. Just one of them. Another reason is that she does offer a vision and an echo of an earlier age when we were not afraid of the future.

In her inaugural addess, Gov. Palin told her beloved Alaskans:

Take responsibility for your family and for your futures. Don't think you need government to take care of all needs and to make decisions for you. More government isn't the answer because you have the ability, because you are Alaskans and you live in a land which God, with incredible benevolence, decided to overwhelming bless.

I think someday Gov. Palin will say similar words in an inaugural addess before the nation.

UPDATE by JR: Would you join Rick Santelli's "Tea Party"?

UPDATE II by Ramrocks:

Hey, could you folks do us a big favor?
Shoot K-Lo an email and tell her how much you appreciate her kind comments. And be sure to tell her that Conservatives4Palin sent you. Maybe the swells will like us again if we behave more civilly. We can try to fit in. We know what a salad fork is (though the finger bowl still confuses us). We're ordinary barbarians, but we're not uncouth. Truly, we're not. And despite it all, we really do like NRO. They're the suits to our carhartts.

If those guys in the background are truly a cross section of America, Obambi is in serious trouble.

BTW, anyone see this goodie on Drudge? Maybe there is some hope for the youth that will be voting next time around....

It's about time someone showed some outrage about what's going on in Washington. Both parties are selling us down the river.

Rick Santelli is the only one on TV with any sense.... I agree with his "revolution" rant, totally...

Methinks that it isn't just flyover country that is about to see a gathering storm.

The genie is busting to get out of the bottle.

Finally some people speaking out!
Stop rewarding the losers.
This country is based upon the principles of liberty, individuality, and working arduously to gain in society.
Capitalism works.
My parents left Cuba for a reason. As Santelli said, do we want to go backwards like the economy in Cuba?
The government is overreaching.
Obama: Worst. President. Ever!

By the way, Palin is visting the villages tomorrow with Franklin Graham. No press release but it's been reported on the ADN politics blog.

It's my understanding that Franklin is actually a pretty controversial guy but it sounds like they are delivering a ton of food.

Anonymous,  February 19, 2009 1:06 PM

Palin is not going to the NGA meeting either....wow, she really is trying to tamp down the notion that she is too focused on her national profile.

This should pretty put the clampor on those claiming that she's unfocused on state issues; not attending either the NGA or CPAC is a big deal.

Anonymous,  February 19, 2009 1:06 PM

I couldn't agree more with Rick's comments. We need to stop this nonsense that is occurring with this Obama presidency. I am at the "Tea Party"!!!!

Anonymous,  February 19, 2009 1:14 PM

The markets are mad as hell about the rush to socialism.

If memory serves me correct, wasn’t there some plumber and VP candidate that tried to warn us that socialism would happen if Obama were elected?

Anonymous,  February 19, 2009 1:14 PM

Oh man do I love it!!!

TEA PARTY!!!

Anonymous,  February 19, 2009 1:17 PM

Rick,
Where, when, what time. I am ready to join the Chicago Tea Party. I am as outraged (or more) than you, Rick.

Rose February 19, 2009 1:19 PM

Absolutely AWESOME!!!!

colin,  February 19, 2009 1:34 PM

As someone who unfortunately lives in Chicago and sees all the bad management mistakes that our city makes, it put a smile on my face to hear this. I would go to any rally he and other like-minded people decide to hold. Reminding them that this is a Capitalistic country. A Keynesian, Germanesque government-stimulated economy DOES NOT WORK. And rewarding bad behavior goes against the system this country was founded upon. It's a dangerous road the administration is carving.

NancyN,  February 19, 2009 1:46 PM

I say that all of us in Chicago should hold Santelli to that July Tea Party.

Anonymous,  February 19, 2009 1:50 PM

I fear Rick has awakened a sleeping giant, the over burdened American taxpayer. July tea party, I'm with you.

Anonymous,  February 19, 2009 1:57 PM

Rick is a true patriot. His comments this morning reflect what the silent majority is really thinking. Look forward to the tea party.

HugoPhucoffGOP,  February 19, 2009 2:53 PM

Ironic that you of the Conservative lean will gladly embrace the writings of Jefferson that favored States rights...

However, he also promoted liberalism and Republicanism...And as a non Christian Deist, I assume all of you support his passion to ensure the complete and total SEPARATION of Church and State!

"The hocus-pocus phantasy of a God, like another Cerberus, with one body and three heads, had its birth and growth in the blood of thousands and thousands of martyrs."

"In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own. It is error alone that needs the support of government. Truth can stand by itself." Thomas Jefferson

Having worked for years in the sub prime Mortgage business, I ASSURE you the "people" you refer to who are struggling with their suddenly overbloated Mortgages are your Suburban white neighbors except on the Coasts where virtually everyone was hit by the collapse of the Market. As a former member of the Army, and someone who grew up in the Army, ironically too, I know many of my Military friends are struggling with Mortgage issues...Isn't Support the Troops one of your Mantra's?

The GOP spends a TRILLION Dollars in Iraq and $700B to bail out Wall Street and because Conservatives are anti American and in need of seeing America fail, they began a rant about $70B for Mortgage bail outs???? Even though the foreclosure process itself is such a huge cost to the Mortgage companies???

Then again, you Repubs are the same fools that blocked spending $70B to upgrade the electrical infrastructure in the US after the last North East blackout, but you were all on board for spending $60B to upgrade the Iraqi electric grid!!!

colin,  February 19, 2009 4:19 PM

Hey Hugo, a few things. First of all, I don't know what you're opinion on God has anything to do with this issue. I frankly don't care that you're a deist and I don't care to hear you pluck a couple of quotes from Thomas Jefferson. It is my belief that he is misinterpreted by many.

That aside, I do believe that members of the military should be justly compensated and receive benefits when they get home from war. Absolutely they should. But I do not believe that I should subsidize someone else's mortgage based on their own neglect and poor decisions. That's what individual responsibility is all about. Furthermore, the Wall Street Bailout you speak of was actually opposed by a considerable number of Conservatives, including many who visit and post on this site. It has set a bad precedent, which Obama is capitalizing on.

And conservatives being Anti-American? That's quite a statement to make. What conservatives complain about today is not a knock against this country, it is the poor economic policies that this Administration is making, but that does not mean that we love America any less.

djay February 19, 2009 7:48 PM

The sleeping giant is moving!.. he's really moving!!!... The thing about Giants when they begin to move it is rather slow at first and as the blood begins flow, the temperature begins to rise and the EYES BEGIN TO OPEN wider and wider he eventually rises to his feet and ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE!!!! 57 million already had their eyes open now the ground swell hopefully will enlighten and open millions more eyes!!

narciso February 19, 2009 8:37 PM

He must have missed that inscription on the Jefferson Monument, "I swear upon the altar of god, to fight against every form of oppression"
So his deism was not as pronounced as one would think

Hey, 'Cuda has a presser in Wasilla tomorrow morning before the food thing.

Lorna Marie February 20, 2009 12:22 AM

score! can't wait to hear the presser!

ps. i was listening to kaylene's book on sarah. seriously, i get goosebumps. the guv is truly self made.

Anonymous,  February 20, 2009 12:25 AM

Can we listen live to the press conference? If so, maybe we can get another chat going.

Greg February 20, 2009 12:39 AM

There was a demonstration against 0bama's signing of the bill in Denver the other day, 500 or so people showed up. There has been demonstrations in several other cities as well. Now this, I get the feeling that resistance will only increase to 0bama's policies from here on out.

promachus,  February 20, 2009 1:27 AM

I think KLO put up that post purposefully to make up for yesterday's snarkfest. Good for her.

But her point is actually quite valid. Do you think without Sarah Palin we would have a Joe the Plumber? Or Tito the Builder? Or Santelli the Leader of Chicago Tea Party?

No. As Mccain used to say, she has ignited something. Those sparks she lit in individual minds across the country and the world are meeting, for fire must meet fire, and once they combine, there will be a conflagaration like no other.

Anonymous,  February 20, 2009 1:32 AM

I actually don't like the plumber; I don't think he helps us out at all though he was very important in exposing Obama.

The party does need to present more intellectually compelling arguments but the person presenting the most compelling intellectual argument against the stimulus was Palin. She didn't say anything stupid like Steele and Sanford (e.g. government has never created a job, it has, the issue is whether government should be in the business of creating jobs). She didn't come out and say we needed no spending and took a very nuaned and reasoned approach.

She's more than capable of presenting an intellectual argument (not Joe the Plumber stuff) and she showed it with her reasoned opposition to the stimulus, instead of pointless grandstanding.

promachus,  February 20, 2009 1:53 AM

Anon, I am not saying that Joe made an intelletucal case against Obama. No, he took a stand and that's important. oridnary people taking a stand. They may not be able to verbalize arguments as well as an Ivy-league professor would; that doesn't mean their input is less valuable.

I am not comparing Gov.Palin to Joe Th Plumber either.I was just saying that the advent of Gov.Palin has stirred people upto such an extent that they are taking matters into their own hands, as they should.

The irony is that ordinary filk are all stirred up but the so-called intellectuals are all AWOL, worshipping at the altar of Obama. But they never forget to be condescending.

LindaW,  February 20, 2009 1:53 AM

Awesome video. Thanks for sharing that.

Videmus Omnia February 20, 2009 2:21 AM

Hey, this post got linked from Memeorandum. Cool.

Anonymous,  February 20, 2009 2:50 AM

On Larry King with Joy Behar hosting, Ann Coulter said that Bristol should have given her baby up for adoption. I understand her general point about single motherhood and the effects on their children, but I don't think that applies in every case. Bristol is engaged, and Levi spends time with his son everyday. Also, Bristol has an incredible support system including 5 generations of the Palin family that are helping to raise this child. Every situation is different, and Ann should take that in to consideration.

Anonymous,  February 20, 2009 2:56 AM

Frankly, it's not a bad thing for 'Cuda to distance herself from those considered out of the "mainstream"....as much as I like Coulter, most Americans don't share my view. The same principle applies to Limbaugh.

Not going to CPAC is looking like a better decision everyday in my opinion...I expect nothing less than red meat and Palin's numbers are improving nationally, so no need to risk it by potentially being tied to some inevitable controversy that will arise with some of the more rambunctious speakers.

Sinistar February 20, 2009 3:03 AM

I think the Republican party would do well to have an army of people in the mold of Tito the Builder promoting the conservative message to new Americans. A message that American is the land of opportunity, success can be had through hard work, and that the Republican party is the party that wants them to keep more of their own money (e.g., low taxes), because after all they *earned* it.

Anonymous,  February 20, 2009 3:28 AM

Ann said the Bristol should marry or give up her baby for adoption. By the way, Ann is a fan of Sarah.

Sinistar February 20, 2009 4:35 AM

There's an interview with John Ziegler and Noel Sheppard over at Newsbusters for those interested:
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2009/02/19/nb-interview-ziegler-talks-clinton-obama-palin-media-malpractice

narciso February 20, 2009 9:23 AM

That was kind of distressing, on Ann's part, than again I try to avoid Larry King, specialy if it's going to an evening version of the View, with Behar, like the last time, she and Baldwin ridiculed Sarah. she's not a single mother, they just are waiting to finish high school before getting married, and she wants to go one to nursing school as I understand it.

JR February 20, 2009 10:39 AM

Ann is opinionated and this is her opinion on the matter.

I doubt that she has lost any respect or support for Governor Palin.

We must remember, Bristol Palin is now 18 years old and she can hold whatever views she wants to hold.

We like the Palins because they are real ... with all the joy and heart-ache the comes with it

Anonymous,  February 20, 2009 11:40 AM

Larry Kudlow just showed K-LO's post on cnbc. It included a picture of Sarah and Rick.

ReaganPalinGal,  February 20, 2009 12:02 PM

Santelli just won the soundbite contest of the week on Laura Ingraham.

LOL, a caller said Santelli/Palin 2012. Of course, I put the Guv first. Methinks this is the beginning of the American taxpayers saying give us our change and country back.

National Review The Corner

Palin Mailbag [Ramesh Ponnuru]

A reader:

I appreciate that you're taking a wait-and-see approach on the presidential candidates for 2012—we should probably all do that. I just wish you conservative elite types—and I don't mean that in an insulting way—would defend Palin when she is viciously attacked, as she has been again and again. Instead you took a swipe at her for not being able to write her own speeches.

Ramesh Ponnuru:

Defend Palin when she is unfairly criticized? You mean, like here? I'll get right on it. As for my alleged "swipe," check the context. I was commenting on two lines in a Washington Post article on Palin that I found amusing—one by her in an endorsement letter, one by one of her critics. I noted that her line was better but said, in fairness to the other guy, that she may not have written it herself. I don't think it would be wise for most politicians to write their own speeches or op-eds, and would never criticize Palin for that reason.
