Ironically Funny: GOP Governors Suddenly Agree with Govenor Palin
Have you heard all of this talk from Republican Governors expressing concern over unfunded mandates, the expansion of social programs and the national debt?
Ironic, considering that this has been Governor Palin's position on the stimulus all along...
From Governor Palin's February 3rd release:
February 3, 2009, Juneau, Alaska - Governor Sarah Palin again today expressed her serious concerns with President Obama’s proposed stimulus package. In a joint letter sent to Alaska’s congressional delegation, Governor Palin, House Speaker Mike Chenault and Senate President Gary Stevens cautioned that unrestrained spending, initiation of new programs that the states may be asked to continue after the federal stimulus is gone, and the borrowing of hundreds of billions of dollars to pay for it may result in serious economic problems in the future.

“It's a given that a stimulus package is needed and will happen,” Palin said. “With guaranteed spending on the table, I am arguing for needed construction projects and tax breaks that will truly stimulate the economy and create jobs, and against increased federal programs that will become a state's unfunded mandate to continue funding for generations.”
Senate President Gary Stevens agreed. “We need the funding but not more federal programs to maintain,” he said. “We need to make wise use of limited state funds.”
From her February 1st release:
The governor continues to express concerns first identified in a Jan. 7 letter to the Alaska congressional delegation about the overall level of spending and the hugely increased deficit our nation is growing. Under the legislation, the U.S. would continue sending money to OPEC nations even as it continues to borrow and miss opportunities to develop domestic supplies of energy.

they are not that stupid, opposition to these insane projects is the defining issue of the republican party and the road back to electoral success.
Every one is following the lead of that Nothern Beacon of Hope and Liberty from Alaska
It's the old game of Follow the Leader, and Gov. Palin is the leader whether anyone wants to admit it or not.
Yes, she was the first to announce that. That's good that she announced it several times because if she were to reject it and the legislators decided to take it, in the future, they can't blame her if extra billions needed to be raised to continuing funding the programs.
Yeah, I remarked on this a while ago but they waited to see what would happen and then started taking her line.
I am quite upset about it this morning... On my local radio show this morning (a conservative talk show) they were hyping up the southern GOP governors for opposing the stimulus plan on the grounds of unfunded mandates for future state spending (and inevitably, higher state taxes on businesses). Yet, no mention about Palin or the fact that she brought this to light 3 weeks ago. Perhaps it is irrational for me to be hot about such small things, but sometimes it seems like an act of God is needed for Governor Palin to receive any POSITIVE publicity.
Perhaps that "act of God" will be the volcano erupting? ...
