The Washington Post is hosting a live chat with Lorenzo Benet, author of Trailblazer: An Intimate Biography of Sarah Palin, at 1 p.m. Eastern time today (i.e. a few minutes from now). Questions or comments can be submitted here.
UPDATE: The live chat is now over and available for review by anyone interested. All in all, I think you can consider Benet a supporter and defender of Governor Palin – his answers were largely sympathetic. Annoyingly, the moderators at the Washington Post let through a lot of silly Trig Troofer questions, but he gave them short shrift.
For those who may be interested, the ADN interviewed Benet here.
Someone asked about the Governor’s campaign clothes and Benet said that he cannot get an answer on what happened to them. Can we please have some people at the RNC shot, so as to motivate the others?
Unfortunately it does not sound like there is a good relationship between Benet and the Governor’s camp. Meg Stapleton fired a shot in his direction about inaccuracies in the book, and Governor Palin’s older sister Heather Bruce says that Benet misrepresented himself when he called to interview her.
But, all in all, I think the book is a sympathetic portrait of the Guv despite its problems. I think Benet may have been worried about being criticized for writing a hagiography, so he bent over backwards too far in including criticisms from Palin’s enemies in politics and the press.
