Alaska Rep. Gara Almost Meets the President and Can't Control Himself

H/T Sinistar

A letter from Rep. Gara:

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

Last week the Legislature took some hits for taking a 4 day break during our 90-day legislative session. In past years I’ve also groused about the break myself, and have some mixed feelings I’ll mention in a bit. But minority legislators don’t set the schedule around here, so I chose to make the most of the time by flying to Washington, D.C., to push some Alaska issues with a new Presidential Administration and new Congress.

Act Calm Les, Act Calm: An Actual White House Meeting. I have to be honest here. I’m a big fan of the new President, announced my support for him back when he was running in the Democratic Primary (when it wasn’t so popular), and am hopeful he’ll lead the nation out of the worst economic problems in 30 years. So, on Thursday I spent a half hour in a White House waiting room trying not to act like a shrieking 1980’s Michael Jackson fan. Senators Hollis French and Bill Wielechowski came with me to meet with Pete Rouse—I think they were there to supervise me—and maybe offer bright policy ideas. Pete’s the former Alaskan who’s risen from his Alaska beginnings with former Lt. Governor Terry Miller, to a well earned position as Senior Advisor to President Obama.

Exit Question: Did Gara feel a thrill go up his leg?

UPDATE by Sinistar: Hmm, it looks like he only got to meet President Obama's special advisor, Pete Rouse... but I'm sure it was still worthwhile for him to get as giddy as a little school girl.

I would guess the thrill travelled down his leg.

Was that really written by an elected official? Wow...
Any information about Pete Rouse?
Watch him.

There was an article about Pete Rouse in the ADN back in February...

It seems that Pete Rouse's mom graduated from high school and college in Alaska back when Alaska was a territory, but it seems Pete has more of a capitol hill background. He hadn't been to Alaska until 1979 when he came up from D.C. to work for Lt. Gov. Terry Miller.

He become friends with Kim Elton while he was in Alaska.

He worked for Tom Daschle for a while... then hooked up with Obama after Daschle was defeated in 2004...
