Dan Fagan: Hey, Ethics Charges Against Palin for Wearing Her Husband's Jacket Are a Great Idea

Just a follow-up on some of the media reactions to yesterday's story about the latest frivolous ethics complaint...
First, the Anchorage Daily News has a story up about the complaint, penned by the ADN's top Trig Truth Researcher, Lisa Demer. The headline says Palin was "livid" about the complaint, and that she "hit the roof" when she found out about it. (Demer also used the "hit the roof" phrasing in her blog entry about the story yesterday.) I sent an e-mail to Demer and her editors asking if they had a source who witnessed the Governor's reaction, or if Lisa is just making crap up to portray the Governor as overly emotional.
Dan Fagan's reaction, published in The Alaska Standard, is utterly predictable...he bolsters his "conservative" cred by siding with the complainant, left-wing blogger Linda Kellen Biegel, and he attacks Palin for responding to the complaint. Wow, what a shock! I wonder what side of the issue "conservative" Andrew Halcro will come down on?
I'll admit that at first I had some doubts about the wisdom of Palin responding to these ethics charges with a press release. I thought that the morons filing these complaints are so far beneath Palin it isn't even close, and engaging with ankle-biters can make it look like you're stooping to their level.
But I've now come to the conclusion that it was a politically sound move, especially in regards to her Alaskan constituency. When the news broke the other day about the huge bills being racked up by Palin in fighting these charges, she mentioned that the charges were frivolous.
And indeed, they have been frivolous. For instance, one of the complaints was filed in the name of a soap opera character. Another charged that her picture was used by the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute, which is actually a public corporation established by state law. Other complaints - she issued a press release announcing she was running for Vice President. She allowed a reporter to interview her in the Governor's office. She allowed her press spokesman to answer questions about her Governor's record at the Republican National Convention, and then she recently allowed him to answer a question about her travel schedule. I'm not kidding, folks. Martin Knight at RedState has done a great roundup of the various personalities involved in the ongoing smear campaign.
But this latest charge is so absolutely ludicrous that it's the perfect one to highlight as an example of frivolity and idiocy. As a matter of fact, it's so damned stupid that I'm starting to wonder if Celtic Diva is part of some elaborate Palin false-flag operation to garner sympathy from voters, and generate outrage against the ankle-biters. To test this out, I talked to some friends who don't normally follow politics outside the election season. The conversations all went something like this:
ME: Hey, did you hear about the latest ethics charges against Sarah Palin?
FRIEND: No...what are they?
ME: Well, you know her husband races snowmachines, right? She's now been charged with violating ethics by wearing a jacket with the logo of her husband's sponsor.
FRIEND: (starts laughing, then stops) Wait, you're serious? What the ****?
I'm curious at how this will play with real Alaskans. Judging from the comments on the ADN articles, there are quite a few who think this is pretty idiotic. Ugafish generally does a pretty good job of monitoring places like the Bob & Mark and Eddie Burke Shows, that should give us a pretty good read.
UPDATE by RAM: The good and brave "Lone Republican" at the Boston Herald has a blog post up on this latest inanity. Also, Tammy Bruce guest hosted for Laura Ingraham today and was all over this story.
UPDATE by VO: Women on the Web, which seems to go back and forth in its tone on Governor Palin, has also picked up the story. And check out the reader comments at the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.
UPDATE II by VO: Tommy Christopher at AOL thinks it's all a conspiracy to get the Governor to take off her clothes. (h/t Jody in the comments)
UPDATE III by VO: The complaint filer was the official Alaskan blogger for the Democratic National Convention.

I just sent SarahPAC more money. As soon as she establishes her legal defense fund, I'll donate there too.
It sounds like Glenn Beck is going to be discussing this on his show tonight.
"They're just flakes being flakey"
-Eddie Burke describing Mccleod and Biegel yesterday.
The reactions of the callers into Eddie's show yesterday fell into two categories. Either they thought that the complaints were too ridiculous to be taken seriously, or they were enraged at the cost to the state and to Sarah personally. I'll let you know what happens today.
These Dim Wit Alaskans are becoming clones of the National Dim Wit DEMS, Obamas troops have brain washed them and are parenting their little babies to act and sound just like the trash machine of the lower 48.
Well, one side effect of her press release may have been A LOT of coverage from Tammy Bruce filling in for Laura Ingrahm today. I mean, she talked about the good Gov for at least a half hour, not consecutively, but in total.
See the "Legislature Will Do ..." post for several comments from me and another commenter who were listening ...
And now Glenn Beck's picking it up. Wonder if Hannity will mention it if he follows up on his Iowa polling tease from last night?
This whole thing is an outrage!
It just comes to show how much Sarah is a threat to the left and the right. Blue-blood republicans, AKA Bush people (as Tammy mentioned on the show), hate Sarah because she is a conservative. She is not in the moderate mold.
However, she resonates with people of all the political spectrum because of her conservative message and effectiveness.
Can't wait to see Glenn if he is going to talk about this.
When the legal defense is set up, I'll donate.
I just checked in at Fagan' AlaskaStandard site and he has a poll going: "Do you agree with the governor's decision to reject some of the stimulus money?"
Yes - 53%
No - 47%
Go vote
Just read Sarah's press release WOW!! Exactly what is needed each and every time she is attacked, quick and bold and straight to the point responses to show Alaskans they are paying a high PRICE.
This tactic is no different than kids who BULLIE ON THE PLAYGROUND AT SCHOOL, and we all know just get in their faces and expose them quickly and fiercely and to the last breath if needed.
CruelaDev,
We don't do that here. This is the right, not the left.
I'm sorry I followed the link over to red state to read the round up of loons filing complaints.
I made the mistake of readig some comments and read some from someone (A chance) who is supposedly an Alaskan politician. What a nasty human being. Makes me wonder if all Alaskan politics is so childish and personal. His meme is that "she brought it all on herself" so she's to blame for having 500k in legal debt.
I was tempted to ask how he had so much time to be posting on a msgbd if he was working - seems like some sort of ethics violation to me.
Katiejane, AKChance is retired from the Murkowski administration. He apparently has been in meetings with the good Gov. But yes, he's retired. He voted for Palin and he would vote for her again, but it's because the alternative is worse.
p.s. I happen to like Bush. But I LOVE Sarah. :)
We've covered Achance here:

He's a jerk who worked for crooks. His nickname was Murkowski's Pitbull.
Pic of Sarahcuda meeting the protesters last Friday. She's wearing red!!

Exit Q: Who's the dude with his hand on Sarah's back?
Of course, it was Fagan who announced several weeks ago that Alaska Standard is not a Palin bashing site. Having established his credibility based on that recollection, there are a couple incongruities about his most recent post:
1) I'm not quite buying the image of the Palins plotting with Arctic Cat for the Gov to surreptiously model snow-wear in front of the global hundreds of millions who tune in to watch the world's most spectator friendly sport. Coming to a television near you, snow machining at night!
2) And Kellen Biegel's concerned citizen of Anchorage routine doesn't gel some how. Rumor of a pending "bombshell" appeared on Mudflats and IM last weekend, so this was never some quietly responsible action - but more of a planned "we've got her" collaboration. These bloggers write about their attacks on Gov Palin as if it is some sort of game, in which they show no conception of the impact of their actions on the lives of real people (the Palins). Their collaborative intent is clear, and it's not about clothes or money or ethics.
Thanks for the info regarding AKChance. While he may have voted for Palin the little bit I read it sounds like she doesn't need supporters like him.
I live in NJ and we're known for crooked politicians - people who actually bring harm to our state and cost us money due to their lack of ethics.
It's hard for me to understand how Gov Palin inflicts harm on Alaska by wearing a jacket. I honestly read a comment saying that "she should have taken the jacket off when she was opeing the race" Are Alaskans really that petty about their politicians that they see this as an ethics issue - or is it just fruit loopiness?
She wasn't wearing the jacket when she opened the race. Greta interviewed her while she was waiting for Todd to finish, so she wasn't acting in an offical capacity.
No just the branch office of the Kos, like Mudflats/CD and some of the birther sites, and the Exxon branch of the GOP. You know I was
more sympathetic to the Major Oil
companies before, but the factthat they didn't aggressively press for more development, made more less sympathetic.
Consider the previous Governors, Murkowski, a longtime Senator, millionaire, Knowles, a Yale educated Oil man (who does that sound like) Hickel, former Governor and Nixon's peacenik interior secretary; and the . Sarah's a marked departure from that, and that galls the
establishment, so they need to crush that example. Actually since we're moving toward a system very much like the decaying Roman republic, and the metaphorical
'knives in the back' from the GOP
and the Kos kids, one rather glumly thinks of Caesar,
Hrh-
Hehe, I think that's a woman who has her hand on Sarah's back.
The Guv looks good. As always!
hrh:
I saw this video and that is a woman behind Sarah. This lady could also be a security personnel assigned to Sarah.
Research shows PDS causes bloating.
Eddie Burke nailed it yesterday:.. 'Throw enough mud at the governor and hope that something sticks'
-Most people I talk to up here (Both GOP & Dems) are pi**ed at these idiots..
Thanks for the correction on the photo ID, everyone.
Betsy, is the video you saw available online anywhere?
hrh:
I think it might be a youtube
video.
I didn't write it down where I saw it. I should probably do that in case I want to see it again myself or someone else wants to know.
I do remember that it shows Sarah in the beginning of the video and the remainder is about what the issue of the protest was.
Most of the comments at the Boston Herald blog post are from folks who have a severe case of PDS.
If she is such a buffoon, why do they waste their time reading and commenting about her? Surely they have better things to do. :)
While it is frustrating to see her attacked in such a nasty way, it does give me some sense of satisfaction that she gets under their skin so much. They must really be scared of a Palin presidency. Either that or they are completely unhinged and deranged. Or maybe all of thee above...
Palin Attacks are Out of Hand
hrh:
I found the video, fortunately it was in my history of online sites I have visited.
YouTube.com/watch?v=sr4wcSSyKVU
Like Dennis Miller says, she ticks off the right people.
Thanks, Betsy, I'll look at it after work. :)
RAM
If you do a Google search on Linda Killen Biegel you will find she wrote two or three anti-Palin articles for the Alaska Standard over a year ago. So Fagan and the "consrvative" Alaska Standard welcome socialists to write for their site - as long as it's anti- Palin.
I wish there was a fuller video of the protest instead of some "art" lady doing talking. Isn't it amazing how Sarah went into the cold just like that and that lady said the weather wasn't pleasant.
Hi guys, from SarahPac.com:
"Statement from SarahPAC on unauthorized polls
Recently, there have been some pollsters or pitchmen trading on the Sarah Palin name – taking a pulse on the Governor's favorability. None of these polls are authorized by SarahPAC or the Governor. Again, SarahPAC is not doing any telephone solicitation at this time."
Glad to hear it. At least until the legislative session is over.
Spread it around wherever you hear false info. being reported. I'm going to email Sean Hannity so he doesn't report it incorrectly tonight ...
HRH,
did you get this in an email? If so ... please forward it to josephrusso@conservatives4palin.com
It's on SarahPAC site under news.
Here's the direct link, Joseph:
http://www.sarahpac.com/news/news09.aspx
For some reason, it's not on the front page of SarahPac, the volcano story is still there. They should really at least have a "News" link on the front page.
April 19 can't get here soon enough! I'm hoping for improvements to SarahPac at that point ...
I just saw this at aol political machine.

I don't really care for Tommy Christopher but his comment below just made me start laughing.
"She's on the clock 24/7, so is she supposed to cut the logos off of all of her clothes, and walk around wearing what amounts to a glorified doily?"
By the way, this is my 2nd post on C4P. I have been lurking for a couple of months but decided to come out of my shell with Ram's encouragement.
Thanks for your great comments and research. You guys are awesome!
Jody, hilarious!
So the latest ethics charge is an enormous plot designed only to get the "hot" Gov. to strip!!!!
