UPDATED: Idiotic Man Appears on CNN to Malign AGIA and Gov. Palin

Last week, Gov. Palin once again proved herself to be a woman of charity and grace when she refrained from calling the writer Joe McGinniss an idiot. She simply stated that the headline of his ill-informed hit piece in Condé Nast Portfolio is "idiotic." (I would have called him a lying smelly toenail fungus, but that's probably why I've never been elected to higher office.)

McGinniss was interviewed by John Roberts on CNN. Dermot Cole has the story.

We've covered McGinniss' idiocy here, here, here, and here. The real kicker is the press conference that Gov. Palin gave last week to discuss AGIA. Listen to it here.

I'm not going to rehash what we've already covered. Suffice to say -- she's right; he's wrong. Any questions? Follow the links.

UPDATE by VO: Jim Geraghty of National Review has an extensive article out today on McGinnis' hit piece. It's great.

UPDATE II by VO: One thing we should have mentioned - Dermot Cole at the News-Miner
reveals that McGinniss has been lying about his interview and photo requests to the Governor. For instance, he's been saying that Palin would not cooperate with him unless she got a guarantee the piece would be favorable. Sharon Leighow, Mr. Bill's deputy, released the actual e-mails in question, and they reveal that Joe McGinniss is full of crap.

UPDATE by RAM: (h/t nxrisetaker2003) Here's Gov. Palin's press conference from last week on AGIA. It covers everything and is well worth listening to.

(Note: The audio is in numerous parts, but it has been set up to go automatically go to the next 5 minute clip. That's why you see only one video screen below. Just click play and it will automatically go to the next clip when each 5 minute segment is complete... until you reach the end. You can also click the little button in the lower left corner to go back to one of the earlier clips.)

I read the headline, and immediately thought: "Waitasec. They're actually allowing Allahpundit on television, now...?" ;)

Joe McGinniss is one baby half-step away, at most, from becoming CNN's answer to Andrew Sullivan. How proud his parents must be.

Toenail fungus I tell you! There's a tube of Tinactin with his name on it.

I suppose there's nothing they will not stoop to destroy her.

Hi, Everyone,

I hope it is not wrong to go a bit off-topic here. I am still becoming used to the etiquette and protocols of blogs (not to mention their speed!!). While I LOVE this site, I find that discussions are often over before I can join them, especially with the contingencies and exigencies of my schedule right now (inter alia, my brother is in the hospital, and has been for a month). Anyway, out of dozens of themes and threads, I would like to insert my thoughts about Tolkien and Sarah, picking up on a chain from a couple of days ago, and about a few other things. For me Sarah is, of course, Eowyn, the Warrior Princess; she is also Galadriel in her regal, "Elvish" beauty. And yet, she reminds me too of the almost atemporal Goldberry! Finally, in her position as someome who seems to have been designated by God to bear a fateful burden, she actually reminds me of Frodo! In any case, I believe that JRR would have LOVED Sarah had he lived to see her day. What a great man he was!! In regard to the question as to who was the "greatest man" of the late and lamentable twentieth century, along with more obvious choices like Churchill and Reagan, I think Tolkien should at least be considered. Techno, I find your political analysis fascinating! My head is bouncing back and forth, like someone following a tennis match, as I try to keep up with the discussion as to whether or not it would be politically advantageous for Sarah to run for reelection as Governor in 2010. I am not yet convinced by either side, but I may be leaning to Techno's arguments.

Anyway, thank you, All, for your contributions to this great site. Dark and bleak as the times are in many ways, we are blessed and privileged too to be living through this momentous struggle between "Sarah America" and the dark forces that would destroy her ("her" signifying here both Sarah herself and the country she seems to embody). Heck, I feel blessed just to know that someone like Sarah lives and breathes on this earth: she is the incarnation, IMHO, of all that is brave and good and sound and noble and true in our Republic.

God bless you all!

Sarah Nostra Pulchra Pugnaxque!!!

SARAH 2012!

From Geraghty's article:

"Similarly conflicted is the question of the project’s impediments. In a damning, eye-catching quote that launches the meat of the article, Mike Hawker, the Republican co-chairman of Alaska’s House Finance Committee, is quoted as saying, 'The only thing standing in the way of an Alaska gas pipeline is the Sarah Palin administration.' But the first sentence of the story reads, 'For more than 30 years, a natural-gas pipeline had been the great white whale of Alaskan resource development.' A sharp editor would have noticed the discrepancy between these two sentences, six paragraphs apart, and asked the author if Palin began impeding the pipeline at age 14."

;)

Oh, Jim is becoming one man army in supporting Sarah. Good job, Jim!

Very interesting post Brianus Berkleianus. Like the famous Iowahawk post, it seems like there are some Campbellian archetypal themes in there.

I'm sure the left would chalk it up to blind hero worship, etc. but I think that sort of analysis is fascinating to read.

Your take on Gov. Palin being like Frodo Baggins is interesting, what with hobbits being the least susceptible to the corrupting effects of the One Ring (or in this sense, power).

As a side, there has been talk of doing up a Lord of the Rings thread at some point just to annoy Mel. Ha!

For the first time that I can remember, we have a governor in our state that puts the whole process in the open (no backroom deals), makes it competitive, and focuses on what the people of our state need in order to have the best result. We have two pipeline plans being investigated where there were none before. If that is standing in the way of progress, I think that progress must be how it was before when the oil companies and the administration spent a lot of time in smoky rooms and the rest of us twiddled our fingers hoping that someday we would get our gas to market and the terms would be beneficial to us. It is the difference between an administration that believes in competition, openness, and the invidiual's right to have a part in his government and those who want the "experts" to tell us what is good for us.
