You know what’s wrong with Meghan McCain? It’s not her weight. It’s not her voice. It’s not her looks. She’s a beautiful young girl with TV-friendly poise and natural charm. The trouble with Meghan McCain is that, like her father, she has no fixed ideological principles — conservative, liberal, or otherwise. She seems to have inherited the notion that playing the “maaaaverick” imparts her with moral authority and credibility as a fresh voice for the GOP. I’m all for speaking truth to power. But like her father, Ms. McCain’s maaaaverick-iness appears to be rooted less in any firm set of beliefs than in the need for liberal approbation.
Take her “beef with Ann Coulter.” (Ms. McCain’s not the first or only one on the Right to ever criticize her, by the way.) If Ms. McCain sincerely detests Coulter’s “demeanor” and “extreme” thinking, statements, and behavior because they represent “hate” and alienate young voters, then how is it that the same genteel Ms. McCain can cheer the cretinous, left-wing extremist Russell Brand?

What, exactly, does Ms. McCain find “freaking hilarious” about Russell Brand? If not his diatribes against social conservatives and mockery of 9/11, then what? Is it the photo of him urinating in the desert? The videos of him prancing around in his underwear? Or perhaps we’re just too old and too unhip to understand the humor and need to lighten up in order to broaden our base? Is that the takeaway?
How, exactly, does Ms. McCain reconcile her fervent disdain for Coulter with her fevered endorsement of an anti-American vulgarian who hates everything the Republican Party stands for? I’d freaking like to know.

UPDATE by RAM: A few days ago, I got another SPAM email from Sen. McCain's PAC asking for money. My reply was short and simple, "Dear Sen. McCain, every time your daughter shows up on television shooting her mouth off about things she knows nothing of, I donate to SarahPAC. I don't have any time or money left for you."
Might I suggest that my fellow Ordinary Barbarians follow a similar course of action. Every time you get annoyed by Ms. McCain, donate to SarahPAC, and let them know that Meghan sent you.

Clueless Meghan McCain clearly has no idea who Brand is, or what sort of person she is endorsing. His despicable treatment of Andrew Sachs late 2008 brought tens of thousands of complaints to the BBC, a virtually unprecedented angry response to his humiliation of an elderly gentleman. It's typical of him to court cheap publicity in his vile references to SP - just the sort of material which caused a public outcry and led to his resignation from the BBC.
Ya'll do know that the McCain's do NOT like the Bushes, right? It all stems from the 2000 Repub Primaries in which the McCain camp accused the Bushies of spreading smears about McCain's adopted daughter and other family issues. So, I understand that Megs has no love for the Bush Clan.
That DOES NOT excuse her for not sticking up for Palin or for promoting a shit for brains brit who make vulgar personal attacks on the Palins. For that, Megs, piss on you.
I'm really tiring of MS. McCain. I'm tired of seeing her on the MSM shows, I'm tired of seeing her blogs, and most of all, I'm tired of Allahpundit posting her crap at HA. I said on there the other night, if we just ignore her, she'll go away, but NOOOOOOO, everyone has to keep talking about her which is just fueling the fire.

I was watching a clip of Meghan on the Rachel Maddow Show yesterday and noticed that Meghan said she was formerly a registered Independent. I think she should go back to being an Independent and stop trying to change the GOP. The GOP is the GOP for a reason.

Ms. McCain is just like her father, using people for herself. McCain used Palin to not be totally embarassed in the election. There would have been a real landslide without Palin on the ticket. She has no real job so she is doing this instead. She would never stick up for Palin because her father sure did not when all his campaign people were spreading lies about Sarah. The apple has not fallen far from the tree.

Levi is white trash. (I can say that since I am too). Bristol is much better off without him. An interview will only prove this fact. Levi talking will make Bristol look like a freakin genuis for being rid of him. I know this because back many moons ago I actually dated a Levi type. Peole will see this for what it is. This is what our dumbed down society focuses on. The country should be worried about the socialist President and what he is doing to destroy this country. We should stay vigilant and focusing on getting Sarah elected POTUS and her accomplishments. The media can't find anything legitimate on her, so they have to hunt Levi down and rope him into an interview. Doing it is his prerogative I guess, but it just frustrates me to no end the lengths the media are going to to bring Sarah down.

Toki makes an excellent point. Why is the love life of the daughter of the governor of Alaska national news? I suppose they will claim that they are covering it because it was a major story in the 2008 election. Fine. They reported that the couple broke up, but why continue to pursue the story? It's tabloid trash. Can you imagine Walter Cronkite reporting on this? He was a jerk too, but at least he wasn't this scummy.
And this ABC "reporter" stalked the boy for an interview. Is there nothing else happening in the world? They had to send a reporter to Alaska to cover this soap opera? Why not cover the dramatic lives of some of Obama's relatives? Why not send a reporter to Kenya to see how Obama's half brother is doing? And whatever happened to his Auntie who was here illegally? Frankly all these stories about the Alaska legislature or local politicians make good copy but in terms of Sarah Palin's desire to be POTUS in 2012 (if she so chooses)they will have negligible influence and impact on what the people in the lower 48 think of Sarah.
Most people don't know what an earmark is and don't care about the Alaskan budgetary process. Except for Bristol and Levi most non-political people couldn't care less about how Sarah manages the state.
For conservatives what they care is abortion, gays, fiscal prudence and sound management, a strong defense posture, the absolute right to own guns, the right to work hard and prosper, the free enterprise system, they retain their God-given unalienable rights and a Supreme Court who interprets the Constitution as it was written.
Take my word for it:Sarah's ship is not going to sunk by the political goings-on in Alaska or the state legislature.
What will Levi say? I have no clue. Maybe they'll trick the guy into saying something he doesn't mean.

Actually, Levi comes off very well in this article. He sounds like he loves Bristol but just needs time to sort everything out. I felt sad reading it because they so young and have to deal with all this media scrutiny. He totally loves Tripp too.

The fact that his sister would sell her story to the tabloids is just disgusting. And I was always disturbed by a story somewhere that his mother was delighted with the news that Bristol was pregnant. It makes one think that this family saw the Palins as a meal ticket. As if his mother was saying, "right on! You're now part of the governor's family!"
Perhaps he's a good boy himself. If that's the case then he should get as far away from his mother and sister as possible.

And now we have "He Said, She Said" interviews with these two. Bristol sat down with Greta, and Levi sat down with GMA. The media loves this stuff. No only does it make Gov. Palin look bad, the main characters are very attractive. It's like a tv drama -- Dawson's Creek or some such nonsense. They'll play this one out as long as they can. Like I said somewhere on this blog ages ago, if Hollywood could convince Sarah Palin to do a reality tv show, it would be a ratings blockbuster.

It was about what I expected, we've been conditioned by our experience with this family to always consider the worst media portrayal. The venom in the Star piece, suggested what a low down dirty rat Mercedes is; and his mother's actions don't fill me with confidence either. They smacked a bit too much of the
"Mean Girl syndrome" that Tina Fey chronicled but sadly became a willing participants. The Palins and the Johnsons were caught in the wave of forces, determined to deep six their relationship, and they seem to have succeeded.
I can't say I'm totally indifferent
to this, Greta took us into their
confidence during the campaign, and so their struggles are our in part ours. This is partially the way Rebecca's most infamous post came about, out of concern for both parties, but probably a bit intrusive in retrospect. Other blogger's like Victoria of Sundries

You might notice that my infamous post no longer exists. It's been scrubbed Soviet-style by me. I deleted it. It was mine to delete. It's gone now. I read it a few days after I wrote it and realized that I sounded like a sanctimonious bitch. The truth is that this whole episode is a sad personal issue that is no one's business but the Palins. I listened to Palin's comments from that Greta interview and realized how embarrassing and difficult this must be for her. This is a very private woman. She and her husband didn't tell most of their extended family about their pregnancies (not just the last one -- but all of them) until they felt like it. They don't like people prying into their lives any more than any of us would. She has said that when you get into public office, your life is an open book. It's astonishing that this is the worse that they can come up with. Seriously, think about it. We know everything about this woman. Even the fact, which these disgusting papers keep printing over and over, that her eldest child was born 8 months after she was married. She's done nothing. They couldn't even find anybody that's she's ever dated other than Todd Palin. Think about that! She's never even dated anyone else but her high school sweetheart, and neither has he. You don't get much cleaner than that.
And this very private modest woman who has been happily married for twenty years had to endure that sick lunatic at the Atlantic demanding to see her medical records so that he could pour over her mammograms and pelvic exams. How embarrassing and invasive can the media get? She said, "So be it. I'll release the records." That's how open she has been with her private life. But she shouldn't have to be. She shouldn't have to answer questions about whether her son is really hers. And her family (and her children especially) shouldn't have to listen to CNN, NBC, CBS, and ABC say things like, "Eight months after she eloped, her oldest son was born." What business is it of theirs? And for the record, her father-in-law told Lorenzo Benet that they didn't even know they were pregnant when they got married. They found out after the fact. And the fact that I'm even writing this is disturbing, but I'm doing so because ABC mentions it again in their article. If these journalists feel the need to pry into the intimate details of the Palin family, maybe we should ask these journalists about their families. Let's find out the intimate details of their sex lives. I betcha they won't be as innocent and wholesome as the Palins'.
They print these stories because they're too lazy to investigate the truly important stories -- like the real drama going with this natural gas pipeline. That pipeline, which will be the largest infrastructure project in North American history and will dramatically change our energy market, should be discussed. Instead we're talking about teen love.
And please folks, send me $5 every time O'Reilly whines that Sarah is still giving him the silent treatment.

I had lost a few ounces of faith between that post and the Team Sarah post around the same time about Sarah's Supreme Court appointee. It's good and refreshing to see someone reassess and then change their mind about an opinion (or whether it should be voiced in that way/venue). Likewise, your dad is most popular among the same people when he is slamming his Republican brethren in full-blown "maverick" fashion. At least he backs up his views with a lifetime of sacrifice and public service. What is Ms. McCain's own political, business, or real-world experience that lends credibility to her argument that the GOP needs to "moderate" (read: abandon its core principles)?
Now the Left is seizing on one satirical line from our show to paint Meghan as the victim of a right-wing hate crime. This comes from the same playbook responsible for the ongoing demonization of Rush Limbaugh -- where his take on President Obama's economic policies are misrepresented as some kind of attack on America. Their goal is to malign outspoken conservatives (specifically in talk radio) as members of a radical fringe movement whose right to free speech is questionable at best.
The left's indignation in this instance is manufactured and totally phony. If any off-the-cuff remark about a woman's size was condemnable, then where was the outrage when President Obama made a passing reference to Jessica Simpson's "weight battle" during his Super Bowl interview with Matt Lauer? And of course they look the other way when obvious personal attacks are levied against conservatives. Remember when Al Franken was the toast of all media for his book "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot"? Last month The View's Joy Behar called him a "fat guy"; and when I was a guest on The View a few years back she ridiculed Ann Coulter and me as "peroxide" blondes on Fox. I laughed it off. If you can't stand the heat...get out of the punditry business.
Next time, just for fun, Meghan should pretend that she's had a change of heart and is now a pro-life conservative. Then she'll really see how the Mean Girls treatment feels.
