Obama Fails to Save 47 Jobs at the Anchorage Daily News
H/T Bean Counter
From McClatchy Watch:
The Anchorage Daily News announced Thursday it will lay off 47 employees and cut the wages of remaining workers.
I guess this means that the "Trig Palin research department" has been put on hold.
VO: Damn, I can't believe JR scooped me on this. I thought I was the ADN watchdog around here!
Just a couple of days ago I got a terse e-mail from executive editor Pat Dougherty, in response to a query on how the ADN was faring with all the McClatchy troubles. All he said was "not much has changed". Now, 47 layoffs? Wow.
Still nothing up at the ADN Editor's Blog about this - just old entries bragging about online visits. I'm guessing that commenters from Daily Kos and Huffington Post don't result in click-through ad revenue.
UPDATE II by VO: ADN now has a story up on the cutbacks. Also some interesting additional news:
Morris Communications Co., owner of the Juneau Empire, a handful of Anchorage radio stations including KFQD, the Alaska Journal of Commerce, Alaska magazine and other Alaska properties, announced yesterday that it would cut employee wages by 5 to 10 percent effective April 1.
Dan Fagan works for KFQD. Is he taking a pay cut, too?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOObama!!!
This just might be the darkest day in human history.
I've been lurking around here. This is offtopic but I wanted to share this link about the Scientology thing being used against Palin.

You guys suspected it would happen. And it happened. Just giving you a heads up.
Of course the loons will pursue any angle in their attempt to mock and belittle Sarah, but no serious person will think twice about Sarah having an unofficial advisor/friend who happens to be a Scientologist.
Future President? Amen!
I am happy about the ADN's fate. Maybe if they did some honorable reporting and not carried fifth column work, they might have survived. Just saying.
They used to say that Alaska is littered with bodies of people who dared cross Sarah Palin. Now ADN has joined them.
Palin has rejected 55% of the stimulus funds for her state according to KTVA....
Tommy, that's wonderful news! She's already back in top form. So, let her go on some national networks and indulge in powwow with the anchors and take shots at Obama. Unleash the 'Cuda.
ADN.. karma is such kick in the pants isn't it?
Feel for the honorable one's who are caught up in this but reality is what it is.
It's good to hear that the ADN is falling on harder and harder times. Unfortunately, it will probably be bought by someone who will continue its far left, anti-Palin policies. Why don't wealthy conservatives buy up some of these papers, and turn their reporting and editorial policies around?
The Mpls Star Tribune is McClatchy, and it has filed for bankruptcy. One of the big reason's its readership is falling, and it's probably true of a lot of papers, is that it is not only far to the left of the majority of those who actually read it, but Minneapolis is increasingly becoming a non-English city, with a huge Somali, and Mexican population, with more and more English speaking white people moving out.
-ADN's circulation's only 64,000. Pretty crappy for a state having 700,000 people...Its been on life-support for years.Just never officially been declared dead.
-For the most 'fair-and-balanced' reporting on Alaska, the Fairbanks News Miner's good.Very conservative bunch up there in the Interior.
"Alaska is littered with bodies of people who dared cross Sarah Palin" (I can't get that darn "italics" to work either)
Now if we could only replicate this in D.C.
None of these Alaskan newspapers can remember my user name and code when I go to make positive statements about the Governor.
Now they are being punished by not selling any newspapers. Or is it that the obats are not much on reading?
Playing SPADES -yes. Reading -not so much.
