About Levi Johnston
A great many things are happening in the world today. But instead everyone is buzzing about this.
My Right Honourable Friend from New Jersey is very upset with Mr. Johnston. He feels that a self-respecting man does not go on a tabloid television show and discuss the sex life of the mother of his child. A self-respecting man would not create a situation where his child, in the future, might view his father discussing the intimate details of his mother's life.
Jim Geraghty at NRO's Campaign Spot had this to say:
Discussing Johnston's appearance on MSNBC, Sarah Palin was described as "a strong activist for abstinence-only education." The guest just corrected the anchor that Palin also said condoms ought to be discussed in schools alongside abstinence.
UPDATE: Jeez, MSNBC did it again, touting the segment by saying Palin was "preaching abstinence."
In the clip they showed, Banks does an exceptional job of humiliating Levi Johnston, asking him if he practiced safe sex, "every time." He says yes, repeatedly, and finally concedes "most of the time."
The MSNBC anchors add that this "could be potentially damaging to Palin's future, and she's "going to have to address it."
How? Why? How, precisely, does her daughter's fiance's comments on a daytime talk show reflect upon her? [emphasis added]
How indeed. And Mr. Johnston is no longer her daughter's fiancé.
Gov. Palin never advocated abstinence-only, but that won't stop both sides of the political spectrum from mischaracterizing or attacking her pragmatic position.
The real kicker in this latest drama was this:
The Alaska governor most likely was aware before her daughter, Bristol, became pregnant that the teenager and her hockey hunk boyfriend were having sex, Levi Johnston said in a bombshell new interview.
"I'm pretty sure she probably knew. Moms are pretty smart," said Johnston, 18, the father of the governor's first grandchild, in an interview that will air Monday on "The Tyra Banks Show."
Of course, that's just his speculation, and it's no doubt his way of smearing the governor. But I think Todd and Sarah Palin were onto this character from the beginning.
The March 30th People Magazine article on Gov. Palin contained this revealing paragraph:
Tom Whitstine Jr., a longtime co-worker of Todd's, believes the Palins have also opposed the Bristol-Levi romance, at least in the past. Last year her parents sent her to Anchorage to do her junior year of high school and live with Sarah's sister Heather Bruce. "Basically, they were trying to limit her contact with Levi, trying to be good parents," says Whitstine. "The method didn't work out. Now he's part of Tripp's family forever."
The Palins are private people, and I'm sure they hate having their family problems dissected before the world. But it would seem that they did try to separate Bristol from this Johnston character. It didn't work. And now this person is unfortunately attached to them.
The AP's latest story includes this:
"Some days we can have regular conversations without fighting," Johnston said. "Most of the times, I don't know what's wrong with her. She's in a pretty bad mood, she's short, she doesn't want me around, I don't think. She says that I can come see the baby and that kind of thing, but won't let me take him anywhere."
Gosh, I can't imagine why she might be "short" with you, Mr. Johnston. Perhaps because she just had a baby, her hormones are all over the place, she's tired because her son doesn't sleep through the night, and she's upset about the drama surrounding members of your family. No, I can't imagine why Bristol Palin might not "want you around." I also can't imagine why she might not want you taking your newborn son, who was born in the middle of the winter in Alaska, "anywhere."
The AP also reports:
Palin family spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton said Bristol Palin was unaware Johnston would be appearing on "The Tyra Banks Show," along with his mother, Sherry, and sister, Mercede.
"We're disappointed that Levi and his family, in a quest for fame, attention and fortune, are engaging in flat-out lies, gross exaggeration, and even distortion of their relationship," Stapleton said in a statement Friday.
Stapleton has said Bristol Palin isn't preventing anyone from seeing the baby, and that Johnston sees his son "whenever he wants, the family sees the baby whenever they want."
The other supposedly shocking revelation from this tabloid television show is that Levi Johnston claims that he was "sharing a room with Bristol Palin in the governor's home prior to their recent break-up. He moved into the Palin home about one to two weeks before Bristol gave birth and was living there until they broke up" about a month after the birth. This is not corroborated by the Palins or by the timeline of events, but I suppose that if it were true then he was there to help with his child, and considering all of the drama going on with his own family at that particular time, it would seem to be an act of mercy that the Palins let him stay with them. He was, after all, their daughter's fiancé at the time. I think this latest episode proves that Bristol made the right decision in calling the engagement off.
Mr. Johnston apparently hopes to "get back together" with Bristol, but his sister is of another mind:
Asked about her brother's breakup, Mercede says he and Bristol are "being mature about the situation because of the child." She adds, "I hope they don't get back together, just because I'm not fond of her."
Don't worry, Mercedes. After this latest stunt, I think it's pretty safe to say that your brother won't be getting back into Bristol's good graces anytime soon. In fact, People Magazine has more from Stapleton's statement:
"Bristol's focus will remain on raising Tripp, completing her education, and advocating abstinence," the statement continues. "It is unfortunate that Levi finds it more appealing to exploit his previous relationship with Bristol than to contribute to the well being of the child."
The statement ends, saying, "Bristol realizes now that she made a mistake in her relationship and is the one taking responsibility for their actions."
The March 30th People Magazine article also included this:
Bristol, meanwhile, is mostly keeping quiet in Wasilla, where she takes correspondence classes, attends Wasilla High and, says a friend of Levi's, "is thinking of going to UAA next year," referring to the University of Alaska Anchorage, possibly to study nursing. According to [SarahPAC spokesperson Pam] Pryor, college is next for her, and she definitely wants to be an advocate for teens waiting to have babies." In her little free time, she works as a barista and a teaching aide. "Bristol is a tough kid, and she's going to be okay," says Mark Okeson, assistant principal as Wasilla High. "She seems to be doing real good, glad to be back." Adds Ty Bunnis, a retired teacher: "she's dealing with things publicly that most kids deal with privately. But they will pick up the pieces and go on – you can't grow up in Alaska and not be resilient."
People who know Bristol – and all the Palin kids – say they are nothing if not hardy. "My sense is this is a mother who has empowered her daughters," says a McCain campaign insider who met the family last year. "They were very grounded and respectful, very close to Mom and Dad. They had a strong sense of self-worth, and were comfortable in the limelight."
In my biographical sketch of Gov. Palin, I noted that Chuck Heath taught his daughter to be self-reliant and independent. She no doubt raised her own children that way. I can respect this. My parents raised me to be independent. They taught me right from wrong, but then they let me get on with my life, and if I had been attracted to the "bad boy" types, I could have found myself in the same situation as Bristol. Thank God that I've never been.
None of this should make people turn away from the Palins.
Even Larry Persily, who is no friend of Gov. Palin, thinks that this family drama will be "inconsequential" in the long run. He told People Magazine, "I'd like to think Americans haven't sunk so low that they will vote for President of the United States based on whether his or her daughter broke up with a boyfriend."
I refuse to allow the "drive-by" media to destroy another conservative leader. We know why they hate her. Ace gets it:
Because she's such an attractive figure, [Palin] is a natural target for tabloid coverage, which is only exacerbated by the fact that the media is determined to tabloidize her in order to make her unacceptable as a leader.
[...]
Is that fair? Well, I can't help but think that Levi Johnson has been courted particularly ferociously not just because Palin is an interesting, ratings-generating figure, but because the media wants to make her into a Jerry Springer buffoon.
Where is their interest in, say, allegations that Joe Biden's daughter was a cokehead? Surely we can learn all sorts of cautionary tales about drug use from that story, just the same as we can learn about birth control and youthful sex from Levi Johnson.
But the media doesn't pursue it. Partly because Joe Biden is a goofy old bastard, and his daughter, most likey, is no head-turner (I confess I don't know; I'm going by the averages), but largely because the media wishes to protect Joe Biden (and therefore Obama) from any hint of scandal or "messy family lives" (as Sarah Palin's just-less-than-picture-perfect family life was often referred to).
They don't want to tabloidize him, and so they are not knocking on doors and burning up the phone lines to get Joe Biden's daughter's boyfriends on TV.
The media has their narrative. Sarah Palin, low-class frost-neck chillbilly, and Joe Biden, serious, accomplished man deserving of respect and privacy. The fact that Slow Joe claims a lower-class upbringing himself, and has been caught lying multiple times about his woeful academic record, doesn't change that.
He's a Democrat, and therefore deserving of praise. Palin's a Republican and deserving of nothing but contempt and hatred.
Today I was reminded of the words to Bob Marley's "Redemption Song":
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look?
As JR noted recently, Whittaker Chambers once said that the Right "leaves their wounded on the battlefield." We allow the drive-by media to kill off our leaders before they can rise up. I remember watching them feast on George Allen because of a stupid joke. He was a good conservative and would have made a great nominee for president, but we stood aside and watched the drive-by media destroy him.
No more.
I'm heartened to note that even Allahpundit, no friend of Palin he, has taken her side this time.
UPDATE by RAM: Just a clarification - Meg Stapleton has told CNN that Johnston never lived under the Palins' roof.
Update by JR: President Reagan on fatherhood:
Fatherhood can sometimes be walking the floor at midnight with a baby that can't sleep. More likely, fatherhood is repairing a bicycle wheel for the umpteenth time, knowing that it won't last the afternoon. Fatherhood is guiding a youth through the wilderness of adolescence toward adulthood. Fatherhood is holding tight when all seems to be falling apart; and it's letting go when it is time to part. Fatherhood is long hours at the blast furnace or in the fields, behind the wheel or in front of a computer screen, working a 12-hour shift or doing a 6-month tour of duty. It's giving one's all, from the break of day to its end, on the job, in the house, but most of all in the heart.
UPDATE by RAM II: Go here for Gov. Palin's latest response.

Rebecca, you've outdone yourself this time. All bad feelings about your Bristol post are truly gone.
All through this melee one has to wonder at the strength of Bristol and other Palin children. Everyone of them was attacked and they bore the attacks stoically. Bristol may have made mistakes but can you imagine any other teenager handling her crisis so well? I can't.
Another thing impressed me today, dunno if it was in comments or in main posts. it's about Sarah turned to Track for advice about senate seat and he said no. What a wise young man! And he had the courage to enter into army all by himself.
No matter what the spin the media puts on Sarah and her family, one thing is crystal clear. Sarah is a great mom. She has managed to raise wonderful kids , all the while having a busy life with a career some of us can only dream about.
Somebody should tell snarkvader at hotair about how the Palin family tried to separate the kids and failed. She was going on and on about it.
FOBG has a very interesting post about this situation in the open thread.
well as they say serving in public office is a sacrifice...
Sarah sacrificed time with her family to better the lives of others...
i commend her
Rebecca...thank you so much for this piece. I first encountered you at another board and think you do a wonderful job.
I just read FOBG's post on the other thread. Potentially explosive stuff.
Al
I love the statement that Sarah put out through Meg Stapleton! Levi and the Johnstons should be ashamed of exploiting and making money off of Bristol, Tripp and Sarah. So should Tyra Banks!
Why don't these people get off their lazy butts and do some honest work for a change? As the Palins said, Levi should worry about supporting his son instead of going on talk shows!
Like someone posted at Free Republic, Levi should just take his thirty pieces of silver and slink off. What a betrayal after all Sarah and the Palin family had done for Levi. The Johnstons just ticked the Momma Grizzly and her base big time!
I posted this at the open thread below:
"Oh no! It turns out that is Todd Palin's half-sister who was just arrested for buglary. This story sounds really bizarre. Allah has a link to this story at Hot Air on the Levi Johnston post.
So now Todd's relations are getting in the act too! I guess they didn't want to be left out.
/sarc
Lets get this stuff out of the way now so Sarah can move on and focus on 2012. Obama has an aunt who is an illegal alien and a half-brother who is allegedly a militant radical rascist and Obama doesn't let that stop him. This is mild stuff for Sarah and Todd compared to Obama and Biden's family problems."
Does C4P have any info? I would like to know what the real story is with this half-sister of Todd's. What are the true facts? You know the MSM will use this against Sarah too. Bad timing but what can you do?
I'm glad that they were able to put out a strong statement in wake of this unfortunate situation. In situations like these, there is not much you can do. You can only deal with things the best that you can.
However, I'm not sure if you've heard but there is more bad news in the Palins' personal lives. It seems that Todd's half sister was arrested for breaking into someone's home.
http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/crime/story/747508.html
I don't know what to make of this. It all seems very odd. Just what they all needed at a time like this...
As the Palins said, Levi should worry about supporting his son instead of going on talk shows!
That wasn't in any statement, was it?
This Levi kid does not sound like the sharpest knife in the drawer. You would think he would know better than to go to the worst of the worst talk shows and talk about this. Because no matter what it's going to be spun negatively. I just went on Netscape and already I see "Palin let Bristol share same bed with Beau." So it's already starting. I get his mother wanted him to do this obviously for money, but its incredibly unfortunate. After listening to this kid, I can hardly blame Sarah and Todd trying to keep their daughter separated from this family.
I want to apologize about my previous post on this whole Tyra Banks show. I now have seen the whole short clip, with what I know now is the mother and sister, and the part I missed where Tyra baits Levi into talking about whether he and Bristol used 'protection'. Disgusting.
Wow. OK, I'm not waiting for the full interview on Monday. Levi is a little s**t and needs an ass-whooping. An opportunity to man up and make something good and he makes it all about Levi instead. EPIC FAIL!
I'm saying it: This family IS white trash. Tripp ain't gonna get any of this money.
I now understand why Bristol would not marry him. He is a little punk who isn't anywhere near being ready to be a father and husband. WISE girl the Palin's raised despite being weak on the libido front.
Also, I never had any information about what Todd and Sarah tried to do to prevent this from happening. My love and respect for Sarah is even more now after getting more facts on this story. Funny thing is, these things keep happening as I learn more about Sarah as each 'situation' pops up.
Thanks RAM for an EXCELLENT write-up. I can't thank you enough.
Mansour,
I'll break up the thread momentarily to post some more quotes, including one quasi-new comment from Palin, regarding the Iowa ruling today. Earlier Bill made a comment to CNN regarding the Iowa ruling but this time Pam Pryor responded....
Erin Isaac, a spokesperson for Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, said, "[The governor] supports civil unions but believes that marriage is for a man and a woman."
Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty also spoke out against the Iowa ruling.
"Gov. Pawlenty disagrees with the Iowa Supreme Court decision and believes that marriage should be defined as between a man and a woman," said Pawlenty spokesman Brian McClung.
An aide to another potential Republican presidential candidate, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, played down the decision's relevance to his state.
"Does it include Louisiana?" asked Jindal spokeswoman Melissa Sellers.
Pam Pryor, a spokeswoman for Sarah Palin, told ABC News that the Alaska governor would not comment on the Iowa marriage ruling even though she is an ardent opponent of same-sex marriage.
RAM, please put the FOBG comment on the main thread. No matter whether it's speculation or not, we need to get this thing out in the open. Thanks.
Maybe email somebody at NYPost or Fox, two networks which do tabloid journalism and are on our side. Maybe they'll get interested after our tip.
They'll have enough resources to pursue Tyra Banks as to how she got this story and if Obama people are driving the Rex Butler guy, that'd be dynamite.
Hope I am making sense. I am filled with uncontrollable rage. Our side is not gonna take this lying down.
My take on FOBG's post. I don't see how Sherri Johnston could get the Palins on the witness stand unless they had some role in the crime (c'mon, gimme a break) or would attempt to use them as some form of alibi. Simply put, their testimony would not be permitted b/c it has zero relevance to the charges. I imagine the prosecution would vehemently object if the defense tried. And if the judge did allow a fishing expedition, I would imagine the Palins would file an ethics complaint against the judge with the state judicial bar.
Bottom line, if this attorney and judge are involved in a political witch hunt where there is absolutely no wrongdoing by the Palins, this only works to Sarah's benefit and, indirectly, would embarrass the democrats. Can anyone say Mike Nifong?
One more thing, if all this is true, this could be why Sarah has recently taken steps to endear herself to the state GOP. She will need GOP backing if an Obama supporter tries to take her down. Frankly, if this lawyer tries this nonsense, it will backfire on him. People may be tired of the Palin family saga, but they're also tired of seeing a decent woman getting unfairly railroaded by political hacks.
Oh and as for the arrest of Todd Palin's half sister, that will make noise for a day or two, but don't see it hurting Palin...unless she also winds up on Tyra (knock on wood)
Excellent post as always Ram. As I said in the open thread, these stories start to wear on me sometimes, but then you just pick yourself up and fight back. I enthusiastically volunteered to work for c4p and post here for the precise reason that these kind of stories just motivate me more to fight back at the most enormous smear campaign any of us have ever seen in our lifetimes.
I just can't believe how far we've fallen that this stupid tabloid trash is all anyone cares about. I just saw John Bolton on Greta talking about the imminent NKorea rocket launch that could his AK or HI. We should be concerned w/ those issues, not this crap.
As for Allahpundit, I thought he made a mild defense of Gov Palin, but of course he had to add a snarky "Oh Lord, it never ends" update at the bottom of his post. BTW, why is he saying "Oh Lord", I thought he was an atheist?
I had sadly hoped that it wouldn't go this badly, but Levi failed below the expectations we had set for him, than again considering the example of Kathryn Johnston, and evil sis Mercedes, I guess it's not so surprising really. there are rewards in this world for those who succumb to evil or
corrupt acts, and penalties for those who stay on the more difficult straight and narrow path. It should be the reverse, but as the Good Book, this is not God's realm, it is that of the other presence.
My heart just goes out to the Palin's today. They are always in my prayers, but for this next little while even more so.
Props where Props are due.
I've said some pretty harsh things about the Hot-Air boys over the last couple days, but I have to give them credit. It appears as though they are putting out a real effort to be fair to the Gov. First coming down hard on a few trolls and now, posting this article as their 'quote of the day'. It may be the best Palin article (after R.A's piece) that I have ever read. Enjoy. (Via Hot-Air)

How could this hurt Sarah that much?
Look at OBAMA's family and he won the election. A father that already had a wife when he married OBAMA's mother. His mother left him with his grandmother to raise. He has all these half-brothers,half- sisters, etc. from his father's multi-wives.
It is not his fault...just like this is not Sarah's fault.
I loved the teacher's comment regarding Bristol:
"You can't grow up in Alaska and not be resilient"
-Please know Bristol how many prayers are with you and your family everyday-
It was the hoofed beast whispering in your ear Levi....not opportunity.
-The United States Has Become A Sickening Culture-
Sending love and prayers to the Palins. I'm so glad you guys have a strong faith in God. When it rains and pours, it's necessary to have that rock moreso.

This time around I'm not sure what everybody is getting heated up about.
Its an old story. Levi looks and acts like a typical not-so-nice teenager. Generally Levi airing dirty laundry for cash will garner support from those that are neither for or against palin.
I do feel for Sarah & family of course, perhaps thats the concern, but she knows her private family life will be fair game. And it will continue to be. The libs always use that.
The sister-in-law thing coming up at the same time is bad timing, doesn't look good.
I didn't like Megs response - too hard, looks like they are attacking a family member (father of Sarah's grandchild). Respond yes, but not so strongly. I am starting to wonder about Sarah's political advisors - its times like these that cool heads are valuable.
militantfeather,
Imagine if the boy who fathered your grandson went on a tabloid show and discussed your daughter the way this Johnston character did -- how would you respond?
The Johnston Clan almost makes me want to take a second look at Eugenics.
May a series of unfortunate events befall them. Painful, tramitizing events.
Let me be honest. I'd like to go Spanish inquisition on these pigs.
My Swamp Yankee blood be bolin, tonight!
militantfeather,
"attacking a family member"?
I think that most people will recognise more the Johnstons' cynical exploitation for financial gain of their tenuous association with Governor Palin.
For "attack" you should read unfortunate need to defend themselves against tabloid intrusion.
"family member": biologically yes. By any definition of the family which upholds the cultural, the social and the moral... no.
Sorry R.A. Mansour but you have just totally and completely lost all credibility.
Your statement, "The Palins are private people, and I'm sure they hate having their family problems dissected before the world", is absolutely ludicrous.
Sarah Palin, her very self, went before the world and the international media to announce TO EVERY SINGLE PERSON on our planet that her daughter Bristol was PREGNANT!
This very private family matter went public at the hand of one Sarah Heath Palin and no one else. Just her, all by herself on the vast world stage.
The Palins - including Bristol - have given interviews. Truly private people do not give interviews, especially "off limits" children of politicians.
Remember too, that Sarah Palin made the decision to become a PUBLIC official - how does that make her "private"?
These are facts. And facts are stubborn things.
if Sarah hadn't made public the fact that her daughter was pregnant, the media would have found out and in turn slammed her for trying to hide it. She was in a no win situation. No matter which way she handled it, some would see it as wrong. I commend her for making it public knowledge before the media dredged it up on their own. Isn't that one of the things that we like and admire about Sarah... her honesty? Aren't we all tired of politicians who try to hide things and lie to us? Sarah was upfront with us.
What noun, adjective or phrase best describes Levi's presence and revelations on the Tyra Bank's show?
1)fifth columnist
2)traitor
3)Judas
4)self-serving
5)'cashing in'
Publius, I'm tired of your trolling here. Your last comment is idiotic. Public officials don't lose their right to privacy when they decide to become public servants. A person can be "private" and still desire to serve her community.
You're so blinded by insane PDS that you can't even see this or feel remotely sympathetic for people who find themselves in a challenging situation because their daughter made a bad mistake and is now linked by the birth of her son to a scumbag family.
I'm sick of discussing this with you. I'm half inclided to delete your comment and tell you to f*** off. But I'll leave it because it's so stupid that it makes you look like the lousy prick that you are.
Do us all a favor and stop trolling here. Just leave. You're mind isn't open and you offer nothing to the debate. Go. Don't come back. Just go.

Juju, Interesting post. Your post points out how a rational person might look at this situation but there is a double standard and it has become the norm. It's all about payback and getting even. It makes no difference who pays or who is guilty, as long as it's not me, as long as I get mine.
Publius,
Your use of the name "Publius" is an insult to the authors of the Federalist Papers
Personally if I was Gov Palin I would make Levi's life miserable - she's going to get attacked for everything anyway.
I'd have the court address child support and madate a child visitation schedule. The Palins should do nothing to make things easy for this piece of scum.
The folly of all this, sorry to say, is what American culture has become because of the majority's complacency and therefore complicity in it becoming this way.
Im seeing and hearing and feeling a sea change of out rage by us regular folk, including both Repub. and Dem. and Independents, to this celebrity seeking, self gratifying, poor me, lazy, stupid, snot nosed pin head kids and so called adults behavior.
Lets continue to take a principled stand and support actively all who will join the movement, we out number them!
looks like another donation to SarahPAC, this one courtesy of Publius!
Joseph Russo, you were dead on with that one.
Thank-you Publius- (sarc)
Just made another $25 donation to SarahPac in your 'honor'...

Wow you guys are on a roll. great post and tweetable :)
I do disagree with one of the segments of this post, the one that states that Bristol is in the throes of post partum hormones and thus is qualified in being cranky with Levi, the father of her child. No one seems to like the "single mother" scenario very much, yet defends the mother basically telling the father to "go away" because she's moody following the birth of a child. If this were the case we'd all be from single parent families. That is, if it's okay for the Mom to be cranky and kick the Dad out.
This is most certainly true, new Moms have hormones running wild, but they can't just turn away the father of the child because they are in "a bad mood."
I'm not all for marriages based on reproductive results but there does have to be more honesty here regarding why Bristol and Levi couldn't make it work. Better that they didn't get married and then have to go through the expense and additional worry of a divorce. Just don't portray them as role models for any segment of the population, regardless of age.
R. A. Mansour, April 4, 2009 1:52 AM
militantfeather,
Imagine if the boy who fathered your grandson went on a tabloid show and discussed your daughter the way this Johnston character did -- how would you respond?
=================
Hmmm.
Theres a difference between an astute public response and an personal reaction.
Astute would be more in the vein of ... "saddens the family that Levi would be making private matters about his relationship with the mother of his child public. We hope that levi understands the need to accept his new responsibilities with support for Bristol and Tripp, rather then seeming to seek publicity and financial gain."
I think I can distinguish when Sarah herself is involved in releases. They are nuanced, subtle yet hard hitting. Eg, special olympics, senate replacement and stimulus are just some examples. I like her style. She gets the balance right, and is I think a reason she is such an effective communicator - with people in crowds, speeches and one on one.
On the other hand the ones I "think" are drafted by aides are too quick to take offence, and simple, scathing - Ziegler, Levi, or weak - recent fundraiser. Or if emotional issues, aides should be cool heads, calming things down .. these things will surface many times in the future. We her supporters should attack or defend vigourously of course, but taking the high road can only benefit Palin with those still to making up their minds about her.
Its not smart, either too assertive or too defensive, and no subtleness. And the aides may be like this in less public communications too - eg, the discussions with Rep staff on the fund raiser obviousy raised some hackles.
Not saying anyone should be replaced, she has strong personal support in her team, and that seems to work very well. And not saying that its a problem at this stage, in any case.
But my concern is that at some point there will be too much of this and it won't come across as good to the general public (eg, like it or not, Levi is associated with Palin in the general public's mind; introduced at Convention and ongoing relationship with Palins as father of Tripp), or alternately, there will be a major gaffe.
Palin and her team should be aware of this, and try to rectify or improve in some way. Her aides need to approach their jobs with the overriding consideration that Sarah is no longer only the Gov of Alaska, she's a national figure, everything that comes out from her and her team will be dissected and most likely spun as negatively as it can. Subtle, not too defensive or too assertive, especially family related matters.
As we know there are very many that will jump on any miscommunication or mis-step.
I don't think she viewed this as a "political issue." I think it was personal.
It may not be in her character, but I think it is imperative that Governor Palin begin to surround herself with people who are not only politically media savvy but who are absolutely ruthless. After the savaging she received from the MSM for the past seven months and which shows no sign of abating, ever, she really needs the equivalent of a James Carville or a Dick Morris. I think that Morris might actually take her up on such an offer.
One thing I know for certain; she has no future whatsoever in American politics if she is not willing to employ Sean Connery's advice of "when they send one of yours to the hospital, send one of theirs to the morgue". She needs to call them out for what they are. She or her spokespeople needs to get in their face and call them the liars and prostitutes they are. The wonderful thing is, she could still do it with a sweet voice and a twinkle in her eye.
These people do not care who they hurt or what damage they cause. If they didn't prove that by hacking into her e-mail, they showed their true colors when they torched her church. The sole intent of all these phony ethics violations is to force this family into poverty. She needs to forego her Christian charity and countersue these people into poverty. These are vicious gutter animals who savor the taste of blood. They must be treated as such.
