Bear Rugs and Fake Tweets

The news cycle today seems to have been dominated by Gov. Palin's bear rug, her interest in Choppers, and her Twitter account.
The News-Miner has an interesting angle on the Twitter story:
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Two of Alaska's most recognizable politicians - Gov. Sarah Palin and U.S. Rep. Don Young - are newcomers to Twitter, but in Young's case, it's not a happy introduction to the social networking site.
An impostor has been posing as the veteran Republican congressman this week, while the real Palin is doing the tweeting on her page.
The messages on the Young impostor's site range from silly to preposterous and the congressman's aides say they are working with Twitter to take down the page.
Palin's Twitter feed was launched Wednesday and had nearly 10,000 followers a day later.
U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski is among other high-profile Alaskans who tweet.
We found the fake Don Young Twitter account before it was scrubbed. It's hilarious. Yes, I know I'm being totally juvenile, but here are some of the fake Tweets:

Just for the record, no one at C4P was responsible for the fake Twitter account. We just find it funny in a childish sort of way. (BTW, whoever was responsible for this fake Twitter account, email us. You were meant to be a contributer here.)

UPDATE by RAM: (h/t Right-Winged Runner) FOXNews.com reports on Gov. Palin's Twitter account and includes this disturbing comment at the end:
Asked if Twitter could be viewed as a tool to reach potential voters, Leighow said "Undoubtedly, someone will view it that way. But this is just another form of communication, and communication is part of the governor's job."
Jerry Anderson, assistant director of the Alaska Public Offices Commission, said he didn't believe such new modes of communication have been addressed as far as their campaign applications go and it would be difficult to say how state laws would deal with them.
Anderson said his office is planning to update existing regulations with funds budgeted for the next fiscal year.
Dear Lord, are they going to charge her with an ethics violation for Twittering now? God Almighty, it never ends with these people! [Insert curse words here.]

As of 5:15PM PST, Sarah has 10,071 followers !!
What are your predictions for how Twitter followers Sarah will have by tomorrow at 8:30PM EST of May 1st?
1)12,000
2)15,000
3)18,000
4)20,000
5)more than 20,000
R.A., I must be as juvenile as you as I am laughing my a** off.
tech, 18,000
Btw chopper starts up in 30 min.
How incredible will that rug look in the Oval?
That was hilarious! I hear there are a number of fake Sarah twitter accounts too. I can only guess what is on those pages.
That's another thing Sarah needs to look into - any fake twitters using her name. Its just like how there are fake Sarah facebook accounts. I can't wait until she has enough staff to take care of these matters.
She's at 10,196 followers and counting. The best thing about this is she can direct people to her Governor's website so they can see that she is actually getting things done. We C4Pers know how hardworking she is but many in the public have no idea.
LOL! She finally added McCain, Pawlenty and CNN to her "following" list. Hmmm...she's got Eric Cantor now (think I'll follow him too). No Mitt Romney yet.
These two are the classic ones:

HAHA footie pajamas..whoever made that twitter page sure had a lot of time on their hands. I think by this time tomorrow Sarah will have about 20,000 followers. Glad to see she added some messages today. I think it would be cool if she wrote messages responding to other people who write there. Also, Governor Rick Perry is a twitter buddy of mine(added him yesterday) an all around nice guy, he posted today on his site that everyone should add Sarah to their list. Sarah has already endorsed him for re-election
Oh - I loved Sr.'s interview on Fox! Yep, he is definitely heading back this summer to hang out with Sarah! How cool will that be? Thanks for that vid!
Heading back to Alaska, we all know the TLC crew will go! That will be another ratings bonanza! Cudamania!
I loved the little look she gave when she said "snow machine..." Still the best.
Was that it?
I've never realized just how much I love a good bear rug.
I need more...
Is the program over?
techno,
I'll guess 18k.
I, for one, got a kick out of the Bjork Memorial Highway.
SP Follower #685 here.
techno,
swing for the fences. 5) > 20,000
The funniest thing about Ben Smith's sniping at Sarah for her Bear Rug is that it shows how the MSM elite are out of touch.
First, a lot of Americans are hunters and it is Inuit tradition to give bear skins as treasured gifts. Ben Smith is just a clueless city boy.
Those of you who want Governor Palin to run for re-election may find this article interesting about her potential opponents and pollsters view of who her eventual opponent may be....I'm stunned that Gara is thinking about a run, hahaha
http://www.anchoragepress.com/articles/2009/04/30/news/doc49f8d357ac616190142470.txt
"Among the other names on the Democratic side rumored to be interested in entering the race as well are the aforementioned Berkowitz, Senator French, and Representative Gara...
Pollster Ivan Moore, who’s worked extensively with Democratic candidates, handicaps Poe’s chances thusly: “If Bob runs opposed, his chances are very good. But he’s not going to be running unopposed. Right now it appears likely he’s going to have to run against some established figures in the primary.” When asked who, Moore replied, “Berkowitz is almost certain to run, and that’s going to make Bob’s chances not too hot.”
Dave Dittman, a primarily Republican pollster, points out an interesting wildcard factor in Poe’s primary run: If Palin runs for reelection, and there’s not much primary competition on the Republican side, independents (who can choose to vote in either primary) could swing the Dem side for Poe; if Palin decides not to run in 2010, or has a serious competitor in the Republican primary, those independent voters would likely choose to vote in the Republican party. That would likely mean that those voting in the Democratic primary would be the core base of the party, and Poe’s chances of winning the primary would dip considerably. “I think Bob would be more likely to appeal to independents and nonpartisans, and some Republicans too. The only drawback that Bob Poe has among Democrats would be the feeling that he hasn’t paid his dues,” Dittman says, “that he hasn’t been elected to anything—hasn’t served in the trenches, so to speak.”
Berkowitz, French and Gara all admit that they’re interested in the race, but all say they haven’t made a decision thus far.
“No one should be running while the fish are running,” Berkowitz says, also mentioning the election fatigue that Alaskans have due to the barrage of intense, high profile elections that included Palin’s V.P. run, Senator Mark Begich’s victory over Senate legend Ted Stevens, Berkowitz’s own unexpected loss to Congressman Young, and the still as-of-press-time undecided Anchorage mayoral race.
Gara also brings up the recent mayoral general election, but for a different reason. Three Democrats entered a race that had only one Republican, resulting in intra-party mudslinging and hard feelings amongst the losing candidates once Eric Croft sealed his slot in the runoff election.
“We all learned a lesson about the mayor’s race, right?” Gara asks. “You have three Democrats running against each other, all you’re doing is helping the other guy. I hope Bob will keep his mind open to who the strongest Democratic candidate will be, because I think a number of other people are gonna jump in, and the last thing you want is for a bunch of Democrats to beat each other up and lose in November. My view is you wait, see who the strongest candidate’s going to be, and rally around them.”
On the Republican side—and assuming that Palin bows out to pursue her presidential aspirations—names being mentioned include former legislator and recently retired talk radio personality and blogger Andrew Halcro, state Representative Mike Hawker, and Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell."
How the American Choppers show? Is it over? Did Sarah ride the bike?
Thanks for posting the funny fake Don Young tweets. That was so funny!!!!
Sarah looked great on the show, wished that she had ridden the bike, it looked awesome what a piece of art these guys do.
Nice show, first time watching.
No way that Halcro would win a republican primary. It will be interesting to see which dems will challenge Murkowski for senate seat. I think if Palin runs for re-election, alot of the dems in that article will take a look at the senate.
The show was awesome tonight (as always). But extra because of Sarah :)
Only a little bit of Palin tonight, however, why didn't we get to see the unveil at the 50th celebration? That would have been cool. Maybe next episode or next season?
I know this is a little off topic but has anyone been able to buy the Esquire Magazine with Todd Palin in it? I have now gone to about 8 stores and all the Esquires are sold out. Now I'm determined to get a copy...lots of Obamas though...ugh...
Yes, I got my Esquire at our local grocery store. It's the May issue with George Clooney on the cover. It's well worth it. Unlike the Men's Journal article.
You can find that piece here..online
CCRWM... If you haven't already read it.

Thanks for the info and link.
I still want the magazine...but who'd a thunk that a man married to a woman that supposedly so many dislike in Los Angeles has a magazine sold out and I don't believe it's because of Mr. Looney...
For those of you who don't understand Sarah's expression when she said snowmachines, click on this link:
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/reliable-source/2008/10/rs-snow21.html
I don't know why, but it is a big faux pas up here if you say "snowmobile" instead of "snowmachine".
You. Will. Be. Corrected.
Oh are we going to post a list of all us C4P's who joined Twitter? i'M CCRWM31
I think the bigger question is, when will Sarah pass Newt Gingrich who I believe has the highest # of prominent conservative followers, 214,000 and something....
I've been saying 4-6 weeks.
Thoughts?
sarah will pass newt in 4-6 weeks
McCain seems to be on top......with 500,000....
Oh wait, He isn't a conservative... sorry.
what, McCain has 500,000? I'm shocked, some of that has to be left over from the campaign. Okay, I predict she'll pass him in less than 3 months.
Uga,
I'm surprised that Murkowski voted against Sebelius....Hutchinson, not as surprised but is Lisa still anticipating a challenge from the right? I suppose she's been playing hard at the native vote considering the reason that she gave for opposing Sebelius is that she wasn't interested enough in funding for natives, a very fiscally liberal justification for a no vote.
Guys, you can read the Todd Palin Esquire article online.

I apologize if this has been covered, but it appears that Sarah is providing her twitter content herself.
Whitney, thanks for the link.
From the article:
Jerry Anderson, assistant director of the Alaska Public Offices Commission, said he didn't believe such new modes of communication have been addressed as far as their campaign applications go and it would be difficult to say how state laws would deal with them.
Anderson said his office is planning to update existing regulations with funds budgeted for the next fiscal year.
Good god, they are already looking at new ways to slap an ethics complaint against her.
Did her Dad shoot that bear that is displayed the couch in her office? I think I heard that somewhere. And what a great view out of her office window!
I will be spending the 4th of July in Alaska and can't wait. I'm taking my 10 year son to visit friends and go fishing! Hopefully we will see the good Governor at the parade in Wasilla!
Denise (& any others) Thanks in advance for coming up to visit our beautiful State. If you are in Wasilla for 4th of July, you can watch our fireworks show (at 11 PM while it's still dusk!) at Wonderland Park in Wasilla. I am one of the pyrotechnicians who will be firing the show. It's not spectacular compared to big cities but we enjoy it.
AKMark08,
I love AK! I was there in December at the Christmas Open House in Juneau and got to talk with Gov. Palin. When my oldest graduates high school in 2011, the plan is to move up to AK.
This state is filled with people who came up to spend the summer 30 years ago.
In the late 50s-early 60s there were around 200,000 folks here and now it is closing on 700,000. We passed Wyoming in the early 80s and caught Vermont and North Dakota about 10 years ago. South Dakota and Delaware are next!
Come on up, lots of land and clean air up here...........and when Obama's cap and trade kills the coal industry, there will be huge demand for Alaska gas and oil.
Great appearance by Paul Sr. on Fox.
Do I hear people saying..."Honey that sounds great, riding a bike in Alaska in the summer time. We should do that."
Sarah, once again, helping Alaska's tour industry!
