Feminist Life Coach Leah Burton Runs to Daddy for Help

On Friday, we reported on the background of Leah Burton, the Washington state "life coach" who made crazy, unsupported allegations against Wayne Anthony Ross, Governor Palin's selection as Alaska's Attorney General. Among other things, Burton accused Ross of making statements in favor of rape and domestic violence.

A friend of mine who works as a legislative aide tells me that they get letters like this all the time from a variety of cranks. They usually get passed around the office for a laugh before going into the shredder. However, since this crank letter could be used as ammunition for a proxy attack on Governor Palin and a conservative Attorney General nominee, it was picked up first by small leftwing blogs, then the Huffington Post, and finally the Anchorage Daily News.

The buzz in the press resulted in Ross firing back with a letter of his own, and he was allowed to debunk the allegations during his confirmation hearing, where Representative Carl Gatto said that Burton's letter was given no credibility.

Shannyn Moore now reports that Leah Burton's father, former Alaska Public Safety Commissioner Richard Burton, has sent off a long screed to Ross, including a threat to sue him:

I want to caution you on what you say but can’t prove and to advise you that if this kind of slander and attacks on my daughter continue you may well meet a real attorney that knows how to win.

That's pretty rich, since the only "slander and attacks" are coming from Leah Burton. The only thing that Ross has said about Burton is that her letter is a pack of lies.

Dick Burton also somehow forgets to mention that his daughter is a virulent anti-religious bigot and tinfoil-hat conspiracy theorist whack job who believes Governor Palin is at the center of a Dominionist plot to take over the world and impose Biblical law on everyone. That's not really surprising, as Dick Burton is the co-author of his daughter's anti-Palin polemic.

Shannyn also includes what is alleged to be WAR's reply to Dick Burton's letter:

Dick: Thanks for writing. I’ll pray for you and for your daughter. Sounds like both of you have problems. My best to you old friend, WAR

WAR is awesome.

What's with the press. They'll print anything when it comes to Palin.

Read and listen to a real feminist (before but like Sarah) MRS. PHYLLIS SCHLAFLY:

It's appalling that a letter like Burton's could even get the attention of a legislator, don't you think? It should have been immediately put in the shredder and not given a second thought.

WAR is great. If Governor Palin decides against re-election in 2010 so she can concentrate on 2012, WAR should run in the GOP primaries for for governor. That would really make nut cases such as Celtic Diva lose it!

I think Ross is a breath of fresh air and will do a fine job as AK AG. BUT, mark my words, his appointment will cause the Gov some headaches should she run for President. The holier-than-thou MSM will take his comments on gays and throw them back at her ("how DARE you appoint someone who things gays are degenerate -- what an intolerant bumpkin you are"). They will also try to shove Burton's crap at her as well.

Not saying she shouldn't have appointed him, but she should be ready -- forwarned is forarmed.

Ross should be her Lt. Governor if she runs for re-election, or as you said DB, he'll be a great governor as well. After this legislative session, Sarah can come out swinging. Can't wait.

If he becomes the AG it will be the end of her in Alaska, and probably quite a few leg. will go with her. Read the ADN and DNM, there aren't many people on her side on this appointment.

fwiw, then how do you explain that even people like Jay Ramras, who hates Palin, are voting for Ross' confirmation?

fwiw April 12, 2009 3:55 PM

VO--Really can't figure that one out, unless Jay figures Ross will help bring her down, but remember he hasn't voted yet,

FWIW, are you talking about the commenters on those sites? Most of the people who post there do not like Palin. She could appoint John Marshall as AG and they would find a reason to be against it.

These people love to dream that every decision Palin makes will "be the end of her".

People have hoped and prayed that since her city council days.

They do not realize that the common people like most all of Palin's decisions.

They are always saying the sky is falling on Palin.

She always ends up on top and looking good.

One of the many reasons all those people hate her and continue such a relentless attack on her every move and decision.

A different version.

I don't know if the allegations against WAR are true or not.

What I do know is he is in violation of the state ethics act by using state of Alaska letterhead in writing his response to the Burton allegations. Doesn't bode well for someone who is responsible for ensuring that state DOA (and other) employees follow the state ethics act.

Also, he should remember that he has not been confirmed as AG yet. Seems a bit presumptuous to be signing as AG.
