Sarah Palin and the Beltway GOP
After thinking about the recent "issue" between SarahPAC and the NRSC/NRCC, I have come to the conclusion that the GOP will end up the loser in all of this.
For one thing, the goal of the event is to raise money. Obviously more funds would have been raised had Governor Palin attended. Scheduling screw ups will happen from time to time. However, Governor Palin made it clear that she never personally accepted the invitation and would consider the invitation after the legislative session concluded. The legislative session ends in mid-April and the GOP fundraiser is scheduled for early June, meaning that there was more than enough time available for the GOP to wait for her response. I say this because sometimes it is beneficial to "wait it out," especially considering that she is a money-making machine for Republicans and has the unique ability of drawing large crowds to events. But they decided to dump her for Newt Gingrich. It's as if the Los Angeles Dodgers were hosting a charity event, and because Manny Ramirez did not get back to them in time, they inserted Steve Sax instead simply out of spite.
The fundamental problem with the beltway GOP is that they believe that they own the party outright. The only thing they have "owned" over the last decade are record setting deficits and outrageous government spending.
They also "own" last night's debacle of a special election in the New York's 20th Congressional district. Tedisco can still pull it out after the absentee ballots are counted, but this is a district that leans conservative and also contains a huge Republican registration advantage. And, sadly, we've seen in the past how incompetent the GOP is in fighting Democrat fraud in these too close to call races (think "Senator Franken").
You may have also noticed that many political organizations are using Palin's name and image to gin up interest in their events. CPAC comes to mind. For months CPAC ginned up interest by using Palin's name in the hope that it would lead to greater attendance. And it did! The media reported that she would be attending the event; however, many people did not bother to check the schedule or they would have seen that Palin only appeared on the "invited" list. She never confirmed her attendance.
Taking shots at Governor Palin for this "issue" will not help the Republican party at all. The GOP is still "brand damaged," and the D.C. players are still the same. For as much as I admire Newt Gingrich, he does not have the ability to revive the Republican party. When I am asked my political ideology, I simply state that I am a conservative in the mold of Ronald Reagan and Sarah Palin.
This situation reminds me of the Saxby Chambliss run-off election in December. Chambliss called in everybody he could find to campaign with him to defeat his Democratic challenger. John McCain, Mitt Romney, and Rudy Giuliani all attended Chambliss campaign rallies. At most they drew around 1,500 people between the three of them. Chambliss then asked Governor Palin to help out, and she graciously accepted. She came in the day before the election because she was viewed as the one person who could really fire up the base and get them to the polls. The audiences for each of her events that day were double (and even triple) the size of the total audience for all the other speakers combined. Are you getting the picture? Chambliss had a small edge in the polls before Palin came to Georgia, but he ended up winning by an astounding margin. He attributed his victory margin to Palin revving up the base for him.
Republicans do not get enthused when they hear from Gingrich and McCain. They do not open their checkbooks to make a donation after listening to a speech by Mitt Romney. The facts bear out that they will do both of these things for Governor Sarah Palin. The McCain campaign raised more money in the days immediately following Sarah Palin's introduction as McCain's running mate than at any time prior.
The fact that the high muck-a-mucks of the GOP have thrown their best fundraiser under the bus in order to make an elitist inside-the-beltway point just goes to show you how incompetent and out of touch they are as a party. This is the same incompetence they showed while in power, and it's the very reason why they are now out of power. The GOP beltway elite need to prove themselves to ordinary Americans like us and Sarah Palin, not the other way around. She doesn't own them anything, and neither do we.
At the end of the day, it was the NRSC and NRCC that snubbed Governor Palin. They showed her the same contempt they've shown us over the years. Remember this the next time the Republican party asks for your money. We support SarahPAC here because we trust her more than we trust them. We're conservatives here, not Republicans.

Off-topic but AK Report is stating:
"The rumor around the halls of justice is that corrupt Congressman Don Young is going to get popped pretty soon. Like next week. We've heard that rumor before but this time it sounds like a keeper."
Well, if that does happen, Don Young will now have the Stevens saga to point to as a sign for why there should not be a rush to judgment.
I couldn't have said it all better myself JR. Great post. Time for another SrahPAC donation...
"We support SarahPAC here because we trust her more than we trust them."
This is absolutely correct. RNC keeps sending me letters, and even a card as if I ever registered as a Republican. I never did. I donated to support Palin. That's it.
Excelletn post! My confidence is still in Sarah and her integrity. I have contributed monthly to SarahPAC and will continue to do so.
Great post J.R. I agree with you. I'm conservative after the mold of Reagan and Palin.
In your humble opinion besides Sarah's popularity and her ability to raise boatloads of money what do the GOP members in the Beltway hate the most about Sarah?
1)she is an interloper, resentment that she has not paid her dues, and not worthy of such a high standing-she has not been blessed by the leadership of the party- damn you maverick
2)her staunch, uncompromising belief in Reagan conservative principles in solving the problems of America
3)her humble or non-elitist background, her family life, her way of speaking, her pro-life views that allow no compromise for rape or incest etc.
4)embarrassing or shaming the GOP leadership and members of Congress by the way she attacks Obama and calling him out on his weaknesses; her refusal to acknowledge white guilt or bow down to the Messiah; her utter defiance of the Anointed One embarrasses them when they attend effete cocktail parties and feel compelled to have to defend her comments like 'palling around with terrorists' and 'waving the white flag of surrender'
5)that the GOP has forever being branded by the MSM as a party of trailer trash, Nascar fans, lowbrow morons, or religious wackos with the brand name of Sarah Palin so prominent in America-if only Sarah Palin would go away forever we could begin to reclaim Congress and the White House
The Alaska Dispatch is reporting that Palin is going to be fundraising for Murkowski.
This being April 1 though, I don't know if it's serious?
If it is, won't it be funny if she raises more for Murk, then Newt raises for the NRSC and NRCC?
In addition to Esquire, the dude will also bein the May Men's Journal. Check out the AP story for some great dude quotes (WARNING: a reiteration of the clothing brouhaha):

May is Todd Palin Month!
Don't know why TP would do the interview if that subject was brought up.....I have to question the judgment behind it.
There's more need to defend his wife over it because the subject is dead.
Congresswomen Palin? :) 2010!
I think Todd Palin was just being himself. I like these interviews and think he's great for his wife. They look more normal than ever, and he's extremely likable. The joke about his Sunday go-to-meeting jeans cracked me up. These Palins are awesome.
"No more need" is what I meant to write and believe it but point well taken by Mansour.
I've sent back 3 RNC fundraising letters in the last few weeks, annotated with "all my donations are going to SarahPAC." I even emailed the gop this morning telling them that the whole fundraiser affair was a disgrace, and reminding them again that I'm donating only to SarahPAC.
The beltway gop seem to forget Gov. Palin has a real job, and is just not a member of some junior debate society. She has real decisions to make, real problems to solve, and a big pack of rep/dem rats to contend with.
wisetrog or someone else wrote about deflection. What is it that the administration is legitimately being criticized for? Incompetence. What do they do? Spread the narrative that Gov. Palin and her staff are incompetent. Aided and abetted by the beltway GOP.
"I know I am, but what are you?" Hey, change we can believe in!
We will see how little money Gingrich actually brings in for the GOP. They are trying their hardest to make the republican party to choose one of thier good ol' boys, but we will not have it. My MONEY and my VOTE is on Sarah. She alone can bring in the $MONEY$ and the VOTES. I will continue to support her. As for the good ol' boys they can eat crow. I will not give my hard earned money nor my precious time to elect any of them. They are old news, yesterdays paper, not interested, get the picture :D. I hope this will open the eyes of those good ol' boys when they see how little money they get. If they don't, they are only Fooling themselves.
Sarah is Americas choice for President in 2012.
She will get my $MONEY$, my VOTE, and my Precious TIME. :D
What JR said.
On one hand, Sarah. The other, Newt.
One of these is not like the other.
"They do not open their checkbooks to make a donation after listening to a speech by Mitt Romney"
I would disagree considering Romney raised more money than Rudy and McCain combined in the primaries. In the beginning he was only polling 3% due to lack of name ID. Now he has gained name ID from the experience and will have no trouble raising 120-180 million for the 2012 nomination.
This was so well said, JR. I couldn't agree more with every word. As I see it, the further Sarah stays from the Beltway and those Beltway Republicans, the better. Them snubbing her just makes her even more like one of us.
Zune:
Romney couldn't win the nomination in 2008 despite all the cash and organization he had because he is uninspiring and opportunistic. I considered him for a bit, but the more I saw of him, the less I liked him. Time, in this case, will not make the heart grow fonder.
I will continue to believe that this whole episode was an unfortunate error on the parts of both the Governor and the House/Senate Dinner Committee. She elected not to commit and they elected not to wait. Unfortunately, she looks the worse of the two for it, whether deserved or not.
I agree that the opinions of the voters are important, but the perceptions of the political classes are influential as well. After all, they are the ones who run the campaigns, raise the cash, and get out the vote. I hope she will keep this in mind for the future.
The most interesting development in American politics today is the battle between grass root conservatives and the Republican establishment.
It is time the Republican Party did more than pay lip service to the principles of a sane foreign policy, individual freedom, and fiscal responsibility.
My political contributions will be to Sarah Palin and Ron Paul.
Good article, well expressed.
Following up on the view about the GOP/NRCC, here is something of interest about how they and our friend Ken Spain operate. From Plumline.
"This one is getting interesting. As I noted below, James Tedisco — the Republican candidate in the nationally-watched race for the recently-vacated House seat in New York’s 20th District — is saying that he wants the national GOP to stop running ads attacking his Dem opponent, Scott Murphy.
The race has emerged as a key opportunity for national Republicans to score a big victory and get some mojo back.
But despite Tedisco’s request, the National Republican Congressional Committee is saying, No dice, we’re gonna keep running the ads, anyway. NRCC spokesperson Ken Spain emails:
“The NRCC has an obligation to hold Scott Murphy accountable for the past he is trying to hide as a Wall Street executive whose actions represent everything that has gone wrong with our economy. We have no plans to shirk our responsibilities.”
The rub here is that the NRCC ads may be hurting Tedisco. A recent Siena College poll found that Tedisco commercials made 12% more likely to back him, and 28% less likely."
Protein Wisdom, Jeff Goldstein's blog has a pretty withering ripose
to Ken Spain, whose next job will involve him saying "do you want fries with that"; the answer the say to his statement that 'we moved in a different direction" is
backwards; and the comments are even more brutal,

Hey people.
Just because Newt was asked to speak doens't mean he is with these people who tried to roll Sarah.
Outside of Limbaugh and Coulter, Newt was the best speaker at CPAC.
Let's not bash a guy that valiantly defended Sarah at the convention, realizes what a great star she is, and signed my Sarah Palin poster despite the fact that he may have thought I was being snarky when I asked him to. One look from him into my eyes and he could see there was nothing snarky about it.
Thanks Newt. And thanks for bailing out those idiots at NRSC and NRCC who couldn't wait a little bit longer. I'm sure you'll be chastising them behind closed doors. Sort of.
Remember the 11th commandment.
good one Sap. Things are getting a bit dizzy here with us eating our own.I think no one benefits more than Washington from this sorry episode. we need to stay focused on the big picture.
I don't even relate to the GOP anymore. The fact they haven't been able to stop any of this spending madness is incredible.I know there are RINOs but still... I think SarahPac is going to be huge and isn't she doing this to help other"conservatives"? Maybe she is spelling the end of the GOP and the Conservative Party has been born... One can dream huh?
Oh, I like the idea of Congresswoman Palin!
