Sarah Palin on Women in Leadership and Women's Rights
Seth Adam Smith created the following video of a speech that Gov. Palin gave two weeks before the 2008 election. It was a beautiful speech, but it was ignored by a dangerously biased media more interested in clothing than in substantive discussions of women in leadership or the international struggle for women's rights.
UPDATE by RAM: (h/t Right-Winged Runner) Here is the complete speech she gave in Henderson, NV.

And McCain shut her down! Where else did you see this speech?
?????????????????????????????????
And the media said not a peep about that speech. Those bastards.
She is awesome. It breaks my heart to watch this and think, If only.
I vomit at what we have today!
Sarah.. I am sorry! America...I am sorry!
I remember seeing this speech during the campaign. Lynne Rothschild and other women who broke off from the left's plantation were there with her.
The problem with Mccain campaign was that they should have immediately pushed her to do policy speeches after the successful RNC and allowed her do only a couple of live interviews on the road, not taped ones where the people could chop them as they like.
Speaking of dresses, she looked really awesome in that dress. Next best to her white shirt n black skirt outfit posted on her trust fund.
I have never forgotten this speech in Henderson, Nevada.. What I asked at the time was why weren't there more speeches like this given during the campaign?
And speaking of the campaign is anybody out there disturbed as I was when Steve Schmidt told the University of Delaware that the election was lost the day Lehman Brothers went under (Sept. 16), which he surmised at the time, that he was like a coach saying after the season that he knew once his star QB went down that he wasn't going to make the playoffs.
And to follow up on Schmidt's confession, why hasn't there been a more of an outrage expressed over first his confession and second the overall strategy tha McCain campaign employed for the remainder of the campaign, especially laying off Jeremiah Wright.
By the way Schmidt claimed that it was a 'devastating' interview and implied that Sarah contributed because of that interview to lose McCain the election as a result of that; he must not have seen Medis Malpractice; and of course he never explains the stupidity of the campaign to put Sarah in front of Couric in the first place.
techno, I was most disturbed by the fact. Ultimately, I think he's most responsible for Mccain's loss and he made sure he Sarah got blamed for it.
Firstly, he didn't know how to handle Sarah by playing a traditional conservative campaign.
Secondly, he managed her very badly.
Thirdly, with such a incredible star in their hands, they should have objected to the bailout and they'd have been in the WH today. They should have tied Bush's bailout with Obama, gone after Fannie n Freddie, gone after Obama for his listless posturing during the senate and opposted tarp 1.
Hopefully, no sane Republican will ever hire this loser again.
Ann Coulter writes a great piece on the Gov. for Time Magazine for the 2009 Timem 100 (influential people)!
She was only 79 on the list but... she at least made it and we know how liberal Time is anyway.

techno, if they'd allowed Couric and Gibson to interview her, they should have done 15 minute live interview where they cannot edit/chop her answers and played gotcha journalism. They should not have allowed those people to haunt Sarah for days on together.
OK, they made a mistake with Gibson which Sarah did reasonably well considering she was chopped out so much. There was no excuse for offering a similar format to Couric after that. That was inexcusable and I think Schmidt had decided by then they were losing and got Sarah into that mess.
The Gibson interview was fine---go back and watch it again. Schmidt is finished in politics; he'll never run another election. All he can do now is CYA-type stuff.
This speech is my most favorite. I saw a tiny bit of live coverage of the speech when it was given on cable news, but never any follow-up or network coverage. A very real shame.
The real shame was robbing her of her Iran speech. They should have defiantly found an alternate venue and have her give that speech. That'd have been awesome.
Sarah has crossed 11,000 twitters btw.
CrabbyCon, we posted the Coulter Time article earlier. Scroll down.
Geeze, do you barbarians ever read anything but the top post?
wisetrog:
I think two or three times I posted the link to that speech. What makes me so upset that speech could have given Sarah gravitas in foreign affairs and perhaps made her more simpatico with feminists.
I believe that Obama and his people were so politically astute that they realized that if Sarah was allowed to make that speech in front of the UN she might have reversed the momentum that Obama had gained during the two weeks of the financial meltdown.
For Obama it was not so important not to allow Hillary to appear on the same stage as Sarah but to force the Jewish committee that invited both of them to disinvite Sarah due to Hillary's non-attendance.
In terms of strategy Obama and his people are absolutely brilliant.
wisetrog:
There were three episodes or incidents in the campaign that occurred which have been virtually ignored in the post-campaign analysis but I believe had a lot to do with the eventual vote:
1)the millions that pre-voted before Obama met JTP, before the redistribution of income tape and the tax the coal industry into oblivion tape came out and before it settled in what Joe Biden said about Obama's inexperience regarding a potential attack on America
2)preventing Sarah Palin from giving her Iran speech
3)the death of Obama's (white) grandmother the day before the vote; I have harped on the white guilt theme many times; this may have been a prime example of where it was exercised en masse
Oh any McCains that may read this..
Cripes...the ONLY REASON I VOTED THIS YEAR...was for SARAH! I nearly ripped my heart out because I had BO and McCain! You made ONE good decision John...for that SARAH got my VOTE! NOW...McCain..just go away and take your Daughter with YOU!

To be fair all of Sarah's speeches were shown on cnn.com.
What happened was that the MSM set the template and the McCain campaign were bumbling idiots led by Steve Schmidt who was convinced that McCain was going to lose anyway.
RAM,
I sent you an email.
Here is an article about her Henderson speech in the Washington Post.

Here is the whole speech if you haven't seen it. It is quite good! Of course, it was definitely undercovered during the campaign. Surprise, surprise!
She is amazing.
OT- my blazers lost tonight :(
Nothing is wrong with equal opportunity [women or whatever] but sometimes even with the merit principle in place or common sense looses out to a manager's libido. It happens in Alaska way too much for me.
There are reason's for the civil rights legislations; EEOP; Human rights commissions.
The problem is they have become a firewall of protection for people (And state governments) who do violate the law. And Quid Pro- Quo is the simplest explanation and form of public corruption.
Sarah needs to work this problem out of her own administrative inheritance. This is going to become more apparent.
Ask Kevin Brooks about this problem. I bet we read about him in the news soon. Who is his state office honey lately anyway?
Beautiful speech.
Gov.Palin is a gifted speaker.
It was a great speech, as usual. The problem was not did "the media show the speech" because they did cover many of the campaign speeches. The problem was how much time they spent commentating on those speeches. Just think what would have happened if they had spent as much time talking about this clip as they did about her not giving the answer they wanted to the "what books do you read" question.
And just an aside. I understand how important Title IX was to girls and sports because I benefited from that as well. But I think now it has gone too far because there are some schools which have dropped a mens sports team because they do not have enough women to field a team for a particular sport. Since that would create an imbalance under Title IX, they have to drop the men's team.
My favorite feminist evah!
Schmidt was on the Hugh Hewitt show the other day talking about the election. He said they kept Palin away from the press to keep her "mystery" and they were planning to let her do more interviews after the VP debate. He blamed the loss on the bank collapse and Palin's interview with Katie Couric. Schmidt also said he was taken out of context on the gay marriage issue. He didn't say that the party should push that way, but that they should embrace it as well.
Reagan's great speeches have memorable names that fit the context.
Listen to the music dubbed in the background...sound familiar?
Shall we call this speech Sarah's "Band of Sisters"? speech? ;-)
I remember seeing this speech on televison - CNN and Fox showed portions of it, but not the entire thing. I remember Lady Rothschild was with her that day, as well as some other notable women.
And AKReports, I'm so glad Portland lost last night. Sorry for your loss, but I'm a Lakers fan and Portland was the only team that scared me; this year, they creamed the Lakers and I was terrified we'd have to face them in the 2nd round. Sorry ;(
The only parts of Palin's speeches the MSM ever reported on were the 5 mins she spent criticizing Obama/Biden. I nearly pulled all my hair out.
She'd give a 35-minute stirring speech, but the MSM would only pull out the 5 mins about their lord and messiah. So they could run with their "she's a divisive racist, who foments violence at her rallies" lie.
It got so ridiculous that even on CNN's live feed of her speeches the camera man would swoop by all the Palin signs and zero in on the one anti-Obama sign. Even the camera person had his or her marching orders. Unbelievable. Sigh.
I can only take solace that CNN is tanking. They used to win "event" TV, but they didn't even win Obama's love fest the other night.
The speech itself was a statistical tie in the demographic but Fox beat them overall. But then CNN got SLAUGHTERED by Fox for the follow-up talking heads. :)

Apparently America doesn't think they have "the best political team on TV." :)
The facts have a terrible habit of getting in the way of some of these people, like Steve Schmidt and many in the news media.
David Axelrod and David Plouff (sp?) clearly admitted at the Harvard University forum about a month after the election that their polling research showed the election outcome was determined from September 15-26, due solely to the economic crisis. In mid-September, the Obama/Biden team was dead even or slightly behind McCain/Palin (thanks to an incredible boost from Governor Palin during and after the RNC Convention). But in those 11 September days, Obama/Biden zoomed to a 10-point lead, which began because of McCain's "the fundamentals of the economy are strong" comment, followed by the economic crisis itself during which McCain embarrassed himself and Governor Palin by talking tough, threatening not to show up for the presidential debate in Mississipi, rushing to Washington, but then doing absolutely nothing. According to Obama's two top henchmen, the race was over by September 26.
For anyone to blame Governor Palin for the loss is disingenuous and just plain wrong. In fact, her vice-presidential debate performance and tireless campaigning efforts in October were what pulled "The Old Man" a little closer to Obama. But the game was over before September had ended because of the "perfect storm" economic situation and McCain's erratic, puzzling behavior during those 11 days.
As for the Henderson, Nev. speech, I agree with Techno. I was able to watch it that day on "live streaming" from Henderson. I thought it was outstanding and a real departure from the normal stump speeches. With Lady Rothschild and the NOW leaders and the former editor of Ms. magazine backing her up and giving very supportive remarks, I thought this was really newsworthy and would get prominent coverage across the country. Instead, it was almost totally ignored, and the media focused on some aspect of the "vital-to-national-defense" clothing issue surrounding Sarah Palin for the next several days. Incredible!
I also would agree that if the Governor had been able to give that Iran speech, it would have really created an interesting contrast. Why in the world didn't the campaign moguls then have her give the address anyway -- as a policy speech -- since it was already written and would have definitely attracted attention? One could write a book about how poorly that campaign was run, especially in regards to Sarah Palin!
BTW, did you see that Michelle Obama will now have a make-up artist with her at all times -- home and away -- as well as a hair stylist? Talk about hypocritical!
I agree that the Iran speech would have elevated her stature; it is NO coincidence that Hillary decided to pull out, thereby forcing the committee's hand to disinvite Gov. Palin.
How about Michelle's tennis shoes costing over $500..on Drudge this morning.
Not that it really matters but I believe the Obamas are paying for all their clothes and makeup themselves, out of their own pockets.
How did a lawyer from a middle class family get rich enough to afford this? Selling millions of books and putting the money in his pocket. That's legal in Illinois but would likely violate Alaska's ethics laws.
The First Lady has a staff and a budget..
that's paying for the hair and makeup people..
Clothes are 'borrowed', I'm guessing.. from what I've read about ethic laws and giving the first family gifts.. some designer provides clothes and then gets them back when MO is done with them.. certain dresses will likely go in display at Barack's future presidential library.. (her dress she wore for the inauguration, big events like that)..
Forgot how inspiring a speech this was the first time, great to hear it again..
Sarah is an awesome speaker, so inspiring and articulate but what touches our hearts and minds, unlike others, is the conviction of her heart, filled with compassion and genuineness..
Somebody said it made them sick when thinking of what we have now and could of had....
Lets keep that sick feeling once in a while as a reminder not to give up Sarah's cause, but to happily pursue It with TENACITY AND STEAD FAST DETERMINATION just as she always does.
Sarah is the real deal, just pure and simple, tired of the DC crowd that wants to line their own pockets with our dollars, give themselves a raise with our dollar, I am sick of it. Bring Sarah in to clean house!
