Tasergate Trooper Still Harassing the Palin Family
You may remember Trooper Mike Wooten from the whole "Troopergate" fiasco, which was pushed hard by the media and the Democrats in an attempt to smear Governor Palin. Alaska Senator Hollis French promised an "October surprise" to close out the investigation and Alaska Senator Kim Elton was later rewarded by the Obama administration for his role as the hatchet man in charge of the Legislative Council that oversaw the investigation. The Alaska Personnel Board eventually cleared Governor Palin of any wrongdoing in this trumped up political goat-rope, which we prefer to call "Tasergate," because the trooper in question, Mike Wooten, used a taser gun on his stepson.
The investigation is over, but that has not stopped Trooper Wooten from harassing the Palin family (he remains Trooper Wooten because, contrary to media reports, he was never fired from his job, and he remains on duty). In the recent Esquire article profiling Todd Palin, it was revealed that Wooten is still going after the Palins. Young Piper Palin was even dragged into a dispute between Wooten and his ex-wife, Governor Palin's sister Molly. And the kicker is that the whole thing occurred during the Christmas season.
Here's an excerpt from the Esquire article that details a meeting between Todd Palin and the Wasilla Police Department:
"Good Morning," Todd says.
"Good Morning, the guy cop, Sergeant Kelly Swihart, says. "Got a minute? The deputy chief asked me to stop by. Have you heard that Piper was involved at the church when all this happened between Molly and Mike?"
Todd doesn't have any idea what Sergeant Swihart is talking about. He knows whom he's talking about, of course. Molly and Mike. Molly McCann and Mike Wooten. Todd's sister-in-law and her ex-husband. And Piper. Piper Palin. Todd's daughter. Seven years old. He named her after that fifty-year old plane of his. And of course Todd also knows that plenty of stuff has happened between Molly and Mike, not to mention all the stuff that's happened between Mike and the rest of the family. Todd still talks about all that so often that his wife sometimes tells him to just "drop it," as though bad memories and bad blood were things you could just bury in a garage somewhere. But Todd has no idea what particular stuff Sergeant Swihart is talking about today. Or how Piper is involved. So he shakes his head.
"What's the latest on that? I didn't hear."
"Well, we're in the middle of the investigation," Sergeant Swihart says. "We got information that Molly was in the van, and she was with her in the vehicle. So we're just trying to confirm she was or wasn't in the van."
"Piper?" Todd asks, meaning was it Piper that the cops are trying to confirm was in the van?
"Piper," Sergeant Swihard says. "Make sure all our bases are covered. It was the night they had the play at the church."
"Okay," Todd says. "What investigation is going on? Something with Wooten?"
"Yeah, Wooten reported that he was talking to his kids in Molly's van, and Molly shut the door on him and caused injuries."
"Oh really," Todd says.
"So we're just trying to follow up and make sure we get a complete understanding of what's going on."
[...]
"You want to talk with Piper? Or you just want to confirm that she was in the van?"
"If she was in the van, we'd like to talk with her if possible," Sergeant Swihart says...
"Is she in school?" the lady cop asks.
"What?" Todd says.
"She in school?"
Todd nods.
The cops wanted to talk to Piper because of this "minivan assault complaint" that Wooten made and which little Piper was supposedly a witness to.
The Esquire article also details a hilarious "experiment" conducted by Governor Palin's father, Chuck Heath, on the van door in question:
Chuck's youngest daughter, Molly, comes in without knocking. She's got two of Chuck's grandkids in tow. It's been a couple days since Mike Wooten filed his complaint.
"Hey, Molly," Chuck says. "Give me your key. I want to see what your door does!"
Chuck and [his friend] Adrian each put on a pair of the bulbous white rubber military surplus shoes that all Alaskans call "bunny boots." Chuck opens the driver's-side door of Molly's Honda Odyssey, climbs in, and turns the key in the ignition. The radio comes on: "Frosty the Snowman." Chuck presses a button and the sliding door on the passenger side opens wide revealing the gaping maw that allegedly chomped shut on Mike Wooten's arm a few days ago. Adrian sticks his hand inside the van and Chuck presses the button again, and the door slides smoothly shut until it hits Adrian's forearm. Adrian screams, but he's joking. The door's kid-proofed and recoils automatically. Adrian and Chuck spend another couple of minutes taking turns shutting the door on each other as the weak midafternoon subarctic sun fades into twilight.
So there you have it. The big and tough Trooper Wooten was "injured" by a child safety door on a minivan!
The story really isn't all that funny though because the article includes a very sad little detail towards the end.
Apparently, on Christmas Eve, Governor Palin had to take her seven-year-old daughter, Piper, to the Wasilla Police Department so that this child could be questioned by the cops about this incident. Wooten's "minivan assault complaint" was, of course, eventually thrown out; but what a humiliating experience for Governor Palin, as a mother, to be forced to allow the cops to interrogate her child. And what a scary and potentially traumatizing experience for little Piper.
The article doesn't specify whether or not Governor Palin was allowed in the room when the cops questioned Piper. Most states allow officers to question child witnesses without a parent present because of fears that the parent could influence the child, and I wouldn't be surprised if the cops insisted on questioning Piper alone because of the past history between Wooten and the Palins.
All of this was simply another chapter in Mike Wooten's ongoing vendetta against the Palin-Heath family. He likes to complain that they're out to "get" him, but the fact remains that he was never fired and no one was ever instructed to fire him. The only thing that Todd Palin or any of the Palins and Heaths were ever "guilty" of was pointing out the obvious -- that Mike Wooten is a jerk and a bad cop. I didn't see any new amendment to the United States Constitution or the Alaska State Constitution prohibiting Todd Palin from voicing an opinion. And if my wife had to take my seven-year-old daughter to the police station on Christmas Eve to be questioned about a "minivan window assault," I'd voice an opinion too.
Oh, and let's not forget -- this jerk still has a gun and a badge. I'm sure the citizens of Wasilla feel secure knowing that. When he finally does go nutso on the job, remember that Todd Palin warned you about him.
And one more thing -- that Esquire article is awesome. I recommend everyone get a copy. It's a rare and honest view of the Palin family, and they're good people.

Is that Esquire issue on the stands yet?
Howlroll,
Yes.
No. Some Alaskans call it "Tasgergate" because Sarah fired Monegan because he wouldn't fire Wooten for tasering Payton... at Payton's request.
Monegan was never fired. He quit. He was re-assigned because he was an insubordinant screw up. Read the Personnel Report! Read the emails in the Personnel Report. It's all as plain as can be!
AA,
Monegan was never fired genius.
AA,
The "Tasergate" term was started by Patterico, a conservative blogger in Los Angeles: http://patterico.com/index.php?s=tasergate&submit=Search. It was picked up by others from there.
And you clearly haven't read either the Branchflower or the Petumenos reports. And, oh wow, an eleven year old "asked" to be tasered. He was eleven, you moron! Wooten's supposed to be an adult.
Read it: http://media.adn.com/smedia/2008/10/10/16/Branchflowerreport.source.prod_affiliate.7.pdf
From the Branchflower report:
Finding Number One
For reasons explained in section IV of this report I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statue 39.52.110(a)
Oh, baby!
AA can't get the simple facts of the situation correct! Come on dude.
Like Ann Coulter said, if this boy had asked to be shot in the leg, would Trooper Wooten have done that too? These anklebiters think like children, it really is ridiculous. Start thinking like an adult.
Guess what, jerk. The Legislative investigation had no weight. The Personnel Board did. And if you read the entire summary, you'd discover that the Branchflower Report declared that she had every right to replace an at will employee. The Personnel Board review tore Branchflower's report to pieces. The Personnel Board was non-partisan. And it was the final authority.
END OF STORY. Troll elsewhere. If you keep spamming this post with your nonsense, I will delete your comments.
Don't test my patience, jerk.
It may have been a "rare and honest view of the Palin family", Joseph Russo, but Chuck Heath made a mistake in the telling.
That second Esquire page has a notation at the bottom of the first column where Chuck Heath claims Todd Palin is "half native".
Not so much. That's two generations removed from what he really is, which is "one eighth native".
KaJo,
Do you know why nothing you say here has merit? Here's the answer: It's because you frequent a site that smears children. Get off my blog you sick, disgusting Trig Truther.
NEWSFLASH: It's NOT ILLEGAL to Tase a kid at his request.
His grandmother who helped raise him is half Yup'ik. He grew up in the village of Dillingham. The Esquire article clearly shows that his native roots are very deep. Chuck Heath was making a comment, which if not literally true, was true in essence. His mother's "half" is Alaskan Native. His father's "half" isn't.
Really, KaJo, you're arguments are pathetic.
Just leave, okay?
NEWSFLASH: It's not illegal to be an idiot! Thank God for that because you'd be in the Big House now.
Just when you think they can't go lower, that's there's some minimum floor on decent behavior, they go and dissapoint you. This is in part the responsibility of Kertulla
French, Elton, and Halcro who
spread the 'Troopergate scandal'
and gave this Wooten, license to behave the way he does. I know Toki is just kidding, when he goes
on a verbal tirade, but I'm tempted
to say strong ill will, when you hear of such things. Interesting how this bit didn't leak to the press like Mercedes regurgitation to the Star, or the supposedly confidential ethical complaint.
Great article about the First Dude. Wooten is a scum bag. Only in Alaska could a guy that tasers his 11 year old step son, drives his patrol car drunk, threatens to kill his father in law, and shoots a moose out of season still be a trooper. Now he's picking on little Piper. What a joke.
Child, "Can I go up on the roof of our second story house and jump off?"
Parent, " Sure, it's not illegal. Tell you what, I'll even go up on the roof with you, dangle you over the side and let you go!"
What's the color of the sky in your world AA? Because in my world, that isn't responsible parenting. Just sayin.
AA, that's the finding by the PROSECUTOR for the legislature. What did the committee find? My recollection was that they didn't have the votes to make a finding so they merely released the OPINION of the special prosecutor. That, my friend, is not a conviction. A conviction would be for the members of the committee to vote to ACCEPT the findings and then proceed to disposition (known as sentencing in a criminal matter).
Kajo,
Todd Palin may be half native, 1/4 native, 2 2/3 native
but you are ALL ugly ... on the outside and the inside you disgusting trig troofer
"NEWSFLASH: It's NOT ILLEGAL to Tase a kid at his request."
In what universe? Wooten was disciplined for this. Next you'll be saying it's not illegal to smack a kid at his request? Or sexually abuse him at his request?
FYI, Kajo, 1/8 Native makes you a member of the tribe with full voting rights. Check it out.
JR-
It really is a soul ugliness, sorry to say.
Alaskan Always said...
NEWSFLASH: It's NOT ILLEGAL to Tase a kid at his request.
This has to be the single stupidest comment I have EVER read EVER EVER EVER on the internet. And I have seen to real Doozies.
So if a kid asks to be shot with a shotgun THAT is not illegal? Because he asked for it?
I REALLY pray you don't have children, or are around children.
You sir are a fool.
Good to hear that the Esquire article was good, and not a hatchet job. Free publicity. Todd Palin is also featured in Men's Journal which just hit the newsstand yesterday, and he was on the online edition of Sports Illustrated as well a few weeks ago. All fred publicity. Esquire has a circluation of about 700,000, Men's Journal also has a circulation of about 700,000, don't know how much traffic Sport Illustrated online gets, but I'm betting it's substantial.
Add Gov. Palin's Esquire issue, and that's probably close to 3 million readers (including the unknown #'s for SI online.)
Here's the link to Men's Journal
http://www.mensjournal.com/iron-todd
I'm hoping Field and Stream will arrange to have a reporter go on a Palin family hunting trip this fall. There circulation is about 10 million, now that would be a real prize.
NOTE FOR THE DUMMIES: It's not illegal to Tase a child if the child asks you to. HOWEVER, it is illegal to shoot a child with a gun. Even if he asks you to.
Are ya gettin' it?
AA,
Go watch the CNN interview where Deputy Doofus admitted his guilt.
When I think people can get no lower on earth, the PDS sufferers ALWAYS prove me wrong.
Tell Celtic Trucker hello.
Fake Alaskan Always:
Do you enjoy having your comments deleted? I told you not to test my patience. I can keep deleting them all day. You're just wasting your time. Get out of here.
Alaskan Always said... NOTE FOR THE DUMMIES: It's not illegal to Tase a child if the child asks you to.
NOTE TO ALASKAN SOMETIMES.....
I don't think you know how ridiculous you sound. Go up to the next person you see with a child and ask them if you can taze their son or daughter if they give you permission. When you wake up from your coma, I think you will realize the correct answer.
Did you eat lead paint as a kid?
R. A. Mansour - When you delete my comments, it tells me that my argument has merit and that you don't like it! wink!
I'm just wasting time until my pizza gets here.
I wasn't a wuss like you. I was more like Payton! I would have loved to have been Tased when I was 11!!!
"Face it guys. Your girl is a dud. The Republicans better come up with someone that hasn't been found to have abused her power. Just sayin'"
AA...what kind of moron are you? How many times do we have to tell you that the PROSECUTOR Branchflower had an OPINION that Palin abused her power through MISfeasance by not controlling her husband (right...but that's beside the point). Just as the PROSECUTOR in the Ted Stevens case had an OPINION that he was guilty. The legislature did NOT VOTE to accept the report as fact as they did NOT have th votes. Hence, Palin was NOT FOUND GUILTY of any ethics violation and there was no disposition made (sentencing to you non-legal types). End of story. Look at this way....the legislative committee was the jury, Branchflower submitted his findings, they chose not to act on the findings, which in this type of civil matter is a finding of no wrongdoing.
Why are some people so thick?
PIZZA'S HERE! Gotta go! It's been a blast!
AA-
It sounds like you have the maturity level of an 11 year old.
Alaskan Always said...

You've got to be kidding right? Your test for bravery is being shocked by a weapon used to bring down PCP filled Raging drug suspects? Tell me the truth, you've shot steroids haven't you? That's a shame. Your wife/girlfriend/victim has to deal with all the roid rage. (and your terrible physical side affect in the ......)
Don't punch the pizza guy when the pizza isn't hot enough okay?
I think the cold in Ak. has frozen part of AA's brain and it may not help when summer comes and that part of his brain thaws out if he thinks its ok to tase an 11 year old if he ask you to. Gezzz...
Read the article...SO AMAZING! I. LOVE. THE. PALIN. FAMILY! Awww, the story shows how much they function as a supportive family. Such great people.
Just ignore the troll. Or do what Gov. Palin said on the campaign trail - maybe the "protesters" could learn a thing or two here.
Off topic- the arrest of the Governor's sister in law got lots of media attention, wierd how this following story is being squashed by the media:
http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/news/260464/Barrack-Obama-brother-Samson-Obama-refused-entry-to-UK-over-allegations-of-attempted-sex-attack-on-young-girl.html
Thanks for posting the article. I love raw stuff they talk about instead of the usual stuff we already know. The story with Chuck Heath testing out the minivan was funny.
It's scary for them to know that a predator (Wooten) is out there looming in the trees, trying to think of a plan to destroy them. Including in the legislature.
It's here also, but I had to search it up:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20090411/wl_uk_afp/britainuspoliticsimmigrationobama_20090411220733
I noticed how they clearly stated "half brother" and with the Palins, they failed to include the "half" in the there, except the very first article by ADN.
No, this guy can't be Alaskan, he would be mauled by Grizzlies long before then, you're citing NewsWeak seriously, who haven't admitted they were punked by the internet prankster Gorlin, or given up who their source was for the other apocryphal rumors. You're all wet, and specially since we see he's tormenting a 7 year old. Don't tick her off, she'll set you on fire (Ace's own observation on Piper's precocious nature)One notices AA's signoff is very much like EWR/Syren/Whetstine’s retreat after inconvenient facts are raised
Finally, got around to hearing the press availability, another great effort focusing on all the major
Issues, the stimulus monies, the Point Thompson matter, dealing with the legislature (where she sounds a little too conciliatory) and of course, putting her foot down on the Levi matter, which specifically refers to living with Bristol before she got pregnant. Those reporters are jerks and foold, who would never attempt to be so critical of anything Obama did.
One more time, folks. PLEASE DON'T FEED THE TROLLS!! AA and her ilk delight in seeing the response they can generate to the stupid and inane comments they post here. Trolls are immune to logic and facts. In my opinion, there are different responses based on where they are infesting. On a site like this they can be ignored or dealt with by a simple slam. On a site like HotAir we need to do battle since the Mod's are neutral/hostile and it's up to us to set the narrative and argue the facts. So, when they show up here with their garbage, sweepit aside and move on, is my counsel.
I'm just shaking my head about all of this. Amazing the lengths some will go to smear, play politics, "gotcha" BS and nanny-nanny-boo-boo. Meanwhile, Mr. "O" gets to skate and has a cheerlading squad in MSNBC. Sis-boom-bah!!!
There's only one reason why Gov. Palin is getting this flack and that's because she's a THREAT. And the little donkies don't like her.
DON'T TAZE ME BRO...DON'T TAZE ME!!!
HEY FRENCHIE...CHECK'S IN THE MAIL.
And I thought having blogger accounts would cut down on the trolls.
R.A. I am sorry I seconded it./sarc.
What an incredibly strong woman Sarah is. She has to deal with turds in the legislature, the press, and this guy who threatens her family. Unbelievable.
I don't see Jindal nor any other republican going through this.
She is such a threat to idiots of the left.
Now that I know it was Nicole Wallace who got Meghan McCain her writing gig at the wretched "Daily Beast' I have to believe it's only a matter of time before those BFF start tag-spewing their rhino bile about the Gov. for all the lefty world to see. Hey, Speaking of Meghan, maybe Wooten would date her!
You know how annoying Meghan has gotten, Politico says the Daily Beast doesn't want her talking of Sarah:http://hotair.com/archives/2009/04/11/quote-of-the-day-485/
On the subject of trolls, these people used to vandalize with spray paint, let the air out of tires, siphon gas; now they do the electronic equivalent. Hey someone read my sincere view that Sarah had contempt for the likes of Ruedrich and Renkes, as some troll indication, ridiculous. They try to defend the indefensible, like Celtic's complaint, like Kilkenny's
press club award, like whatever idiocy La Burton imagines from her
fertile mind, And there are consequences to such lunacy, remember who started out as Anita
Hill's attorney 16 years ago, our DHS head Janet Napolitano
yawn, we need better trolls
Did AA really say that he would have loved to have been tased when he was 11? I'm serious, did an adult actually say that?? I always thought Beavis and Butthead was a rather funny show. But I had no idea some people actually took notes while watching.
That stuff about Barack just gets me. Why is Sarah's family fair game but Barack's family sacrosanct? Don't answer me. I know the answer.
wisetrog:
If you are a drone and bought into the media narrative about Obama and Axelrod:
1)They have no connection to ACORN
2)Saul Alinsky (Who?-never heard of him)and Rules for Radicals (never read it)
3)Bill Ayres: as John McCain stated: he's just a washed-up former terrorist and a guy in the neighborhood; I bumped into him from time to time; he's not my cup of tea (Obama)
4)Bernandine Dohrn and Michelle Obama had connections to the same law firm (what a coincidence!)
5)internet trolls and the nutroots (independent contractors)
6)the MSM tabloid smearing of the Palin family (aren't network journalists and media pundits despicable?)
7)Obama is a traditional liberal in the mode of JFK or I'm not a socialist: it's all George Bush's fault that the federal government is so involved in the economy
After the legislature ends on April 19th and until the legislature is back in session and she is 'put back in her cage' what is the one thing that Sarah must consider imperative?
1)Sarah must start to form a ring of protection of advisors and media-savvy operatives that will protect her from the venom of the MSM and the nutroots
2)Sarah must do a series of media interviews to dispel the myths perpetrated about her in the MSM
3)take a break from national and state politics and take an extended vacation where she is basically incommunicado
4)do a series of fundraisers for herself to build SarahPAC and associates to show she is a team player
5)bone up on issues which she needs to be more conversant in, attend think tanks, cultivate the friendship of notable conservatives on all three legs of the stool: fiscal, national security, and social conservative communities
Despicable HOT-AIR trolls at it again and going unpunished. Here's a gem from tonight:
Come on guys, you can’t go around calling Bristol Palin fat.
Whore, yes. But definately not fat.
Have some decency.
bileduct on April 12, 2009 at 12:42 AM
1)) He was a trainer, and an attorney on behalf on the organizer
2)He followed the blueprint, in his first campaign,
3)Was in graduate school, while Obama was at Columbia, Bank College
4)Michelle went to work the same firm, of Sidley and Austin
5)Axelrod and his astroturfing associates like Jason Winner
6)They seem to draw from the same sources
7)the Iowa defense pledge, the 20 year association with Black nationalists like Wright, tied to Cuba and Libyan radicalism
On the other point, I'd say 1,4, 5, and 2) to a limited degree, on talk radio, the weekly traditional shows are just a waste, Maybe the Journal Report, as an exception
This article was in Intellectualconserative.com yesterday. A great read!!
Much Ado (Undue) about the Palins of Alaska
________________________________________
by Gary Larson | April 10th, 2009
Why? The Left and its media allies fear the prospect of Sarah Palin in the White House. So they pile on, and on . . .
Governor Sarah Palin's now 18-year-old daughter Bristol, the new mom, gets lots of attention from the mainstream media (MSM) simply for being a daughter of the one-time veep candidate. No other reason, to be sure, for the intense focus on the kid.
Like dogs shaking new bones, news media couldn't let go. They covered the Palins' daughter's pregnancy and birth and now, incredibly, the "breakup" of the star-crossed teenage couple. Such breathless reporting has all the earmarks of juvenile, high-school journalism.
When Governor Palin was tapped as McCain's running mate, news media rushed headlong north to Alaska to "get the goods." Led by the disgustingly partisan New York Times, print and electronic media sent shock troops from the lower 48 to dig dirt on the veep candidate. It was like an overt mission behind Enemy lines, carried out shamelessly, by saboteurs.
Why all the attention to Palin and her family, and practically none for Joe Biden, the one-time plagiarist, and his family? Easy. First, she is a Republican. Worse, she's a conservative Republican touting traditional values. Moreover, she's pro-life. Egads! What could be worse than THAT to the orthodox Left?
Previously the Times launched scurrilous personal attacks on Senator McCain, alleging all sorts of sordid things. Scathing, unsupported innuendos about presumed affairs, his penchant for "gaming" at Indian casinos and in Vegas., etc., arose out of whole cloth on the Times' partisan "news" pages. All that was fit to bring down the Republican presidential nominee.
After McCain, it was Governor Palin's turn to be the target.
Who can forget ABC-TV's Charles Gibson peering down condescendingly through granny glasses at Governor Palin, tossing out spit-ball questions, playing the Katie Couric-like "gotcha" game? Gibson even made up his own zany definition of a "Bush Doctrine" to fling at his target. Meanwhile, mainstream media ga-ga over Obama tossed him only big puffy softballs to hit out of the park. (Double standards? Why weren't we surprised?)
The object was — and astonishingly, remains today — "Get Palin!"
When it was revealed young Bristol Palin, a minor, was with child, and unwed, news media fell over themselves to report it, to "milk" the non-story in far-off Alaska for all they thought it was worth. Stop the presses! Breaking news!
And teenage pregnancy suddenly became the issue du jour.
Came to be, in fact, the public at large knew far more about a teen pregnancy in Alaska, than the name of the current vice president. All true, I swear.
Meanwhile the MSM did not lay a glove on the Democrats, or their families. It was as if a media safety net descended around the can-do-no-wrong Democratic candidates.
Unctuous MSM even tried to corral the pregnant 17-year-old Palin girl for interviews. No deal. They did reach the boyfriend-dad in this Jack-and-Diane tale of teenage Rapture. (Life, it does go on, except for the kid-like media types, to whom the past is Everything?)
Media sanctimoniously followed the pregnancy like hawks. Did it connote "sin?" Failure of abstinence? Moral ruin?
Suddenly media, news and otherwise, sprouted a faux morality, "tut-tutting" all the way covering, of all people, a single pregnant teenager in far-off Alaska, right up to the birth of her child. Supermarket tabs had a field day among those of lower intelligence levels and bad, bad taste.
Meanwhile, after a blip on media radar screens, Obama's illegal alien aunt from Kenya disappeared. Poof! Nor were any other candidates' kin "investigated" or, in today's lingo, "vetted." Only Palin's kid was singled out. Why?
Reports continued feverishly about the breakup of young Palin with her boyfriend, Levi Johnston. Astonishingly, amid all the hard news "out there," this distinctively non-newsy item claimed space in mainstream media and on air. One could hear the "tsk tsk" emanating from pseudo moralists.
It was to "Get Sarah Palin!" all over again.
Reporters thrust microphones at the youthful dad in a plaid shirt, sitting innocently in his Ford pickup truck, being ambushed. They asked him eternal questions about Life. Not that they cared for his answers. It was the effort that counted with media. Now young Levi the new dad makes the liberal talk shows discussing the breakup, and dissing his once-to-be in-laws, the Palins.
It is a media Circus of the Absurd. All out to "Get Palin!"
Why, is the underlying question. "Getting Palin" is the answer.
Put simply, the poor lad, a new dad, has entered the bizarre-o zone of the Palin family, being targeting and baited by hungry media. Probably a lifetime sentence for the kid.
Question: Would these "Get Palin!" reporters do the same to their THEIR own teenage daughters and THEIR ex-boyfriends? (Golden Rule, anyone?)
Why all the attention to the Palins in far-off Alaska? Glad you asked.
Elements of an elitist, leftist, mostly Eastern-based MSM fear and loathe Governor Sarah Palin — all 5' 7," 125 pounds of her traditional values, anathema to them. She threatens their collectivist goals, shared by most serious liberal Dems, of more and more dependency on Big Government, dreams of controlling folks, of stopping drilling for oil somewhere (read, ANWR) of snaring still more taxes from "the wealthy" to "spread the wealth" possibly to the undeserving and/or the unworthy.
Their primary fear, I think, lies in Sarah Palin's possible ascension someday to be the POTUS. Scariest of all to her legion of irreligious media enemies, she is actually liked by most ordinary people, carrying a 60%-plus approval rating in Alaska. It's a percentage many a politician would die for.
Palin's all-American outlook (and her envied good looks?), her Reaganesque exuberance, natural optimism, her humble Idaho beginnings, her love for the USA and true family values, only stoke the raving fires of madness of the heavy-breathing, Amerika-blaming hard Left.
So their media efforts to put down this extraordinary woman continue today, and perhaps ad infinitum, based on an irrational fear that someday Sarah Palin might just be President of the United States. Therefore expect the attacks, the attention on her and even her family, to continue, at least through 2012. Beyond?
Is Ramras getting a little nervous?
http://www.newsminer.com/news/2009/apr/11/mining-companies-file-ballot-measure-complaint/
It seems that Ramras is pretty close to some anti-mining folks. See this article for the context:
http://www.petroleumnews.com/pntruncate/667113797.shtml
Ramras’ motives in question
Ramras, who is on record opposing the Pebble project, warned a group of miners at a breakfast in mid-December of last year that Bob Gillam, owner of McKinley Capital and one of Pebble’s staunchest adversaries, plans to bring a mining tax initiative before voters. Ramras urged the crowd to make peace with Gillam.
When asked, Ramras said, he thought that the miners did not take his warning seriously, and they were underestimating their adversary.
Later that month Ramras invited Gillam to a holiday celebration in Fairbanks. At the event, Gillam presented a $10,000 check to Santa’s Clearing House, and gave a matching donation to some local education programs, according to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.
Gillam also reportedly made a $1,000 contribution to Ramras’ election campaign as did McKinley Capital’s general manager, Diane Wilke.
Also, members of anti-Pebble group, The Renewable Resource Coalition - Richard Jameson, Art Hackney, and Brian Kraft - each contributed $100 to Ramras’ campaign.
“We believe that Rep. Ramras should not be swayed by political contributions or personal relationships,” Iliamna Development’s Reimers said Sept. 20.
But Ramras maintains that his position on Pebble is not influenced by his friendship with Gillam.
Tommy, it'd be swell if that rat got caught in some boondoggle. Keep the heat.
Wisetrog,
I need to see a poll on Palin's favorables, hahaha.
The one benefit of this ancillary talk about Levi is that he's ginned up the media focus on what she'll say at the pro-life dinner. They would have covered it even without this nonsense but now, they are going to be even more juiced to hear her. Hopefully, she'll rise to the occasion (sans teleprompter of course, heh heh).
I've got a Hot Air suggestion for anyone who has a HOtair account. I'll post my suggestion tomorrow in the open thread....so keep an eye out for another genius idea from me.
I've only been shown wrong once and that was just bad luck on my part.
Missed all the fun, I see.

Meh, we've had better.
This is an illuminating story:

Wish we had our own Guido Fawkes. I am betting something like this definitely happened during the campaign but it will never see the light.
How incompetent was the Mccain campaign? This incompetent:
Two days before Palin was to give her speech, speechwriter Matthew Scully met with the Alaska governor in an $89-a-night room at the Manchester Inn in Middletown, Ohio, and wrote a draft. After she saw the draft, “The governor attacked the speech and made it her own,” as one source put it.
After incorporating her last-minute changes, Palin and the McCain staff left her hotel for the convention without bringing a hard copy of the speech. When she asked about it, they returned to the hotel to pick it up.

Calling G.O.D. to show the open door:
“I have — faith is a very big part of my life. And putting my life in my creator's hands, this is what I always do.
“I'm like, O.K., God, if there is an open door for me somewhere, this is what I always pray, I'm like, don't let me miss the open door. Show me where the open door is. Even if it's cracked up a little bit, maybe I'll plow right on through that and maybe prematurely plow through it, but don't let me miss an open door.
“And if there is an open door in '12 or four years later, and if it is something that is going to be good for my family, for my state, for my nation, an opportunity for me, then I'll plow through that door.”
Hefmeir, That is a great article. Perhaps worthy of its own post.

Boy, i HOPE! there's an open door in '12.
wisetrog:
Thanks for the link to the article about her RNC speech. I didn't like how they used the word "attack" in "She attacked the speech and made in her own." I think the person should've used the word "tackled." I'm sure Scully gave her the original draft and she crossed off the other parts to personalize it. Then it was re-edited by Scully to finalize it.
Does anyone else remember the "forgot the speech" stuff differently?
I had heard most of the stuff in the NewsMax article, but that someone from the McCain camp had a copy of SP's speech folded into a million tiny squares in his breast pocket. And walking down the hall on the way to the speech, Sarah said she'd take that copy.
Plus, there were notes scribbled all over the margins. Sarah said she was fine with that. The TelePrompTer was way off, but Sarah didn't miss a beat and rarely seemed to even glance at the notes.
I didn't know Rudy had hogged all her time, though. He seemed weird that night. Giddy. Almost like he was drunk.
bitterclinger:
I believe you have your speeches mixed up. What Wisetrog was writing about was Sarah Palin's introduction speech August 29 in Dayton, Ohio, at Wright State University. He referred to an out-of-the way hotel in Manchester, Ohio, where she and the McCain people were secretly staying. I don't know if a teleprompter was even used in Dayton....Sarah actually using a folded-up-in-many-squares copy that day on the Wright State stage sounds a little fishy. I recall that the speech took between 15 and 18 minutes to deliver.
As for a teleprompter problem, you are thinking about the RNC acceptance speech in Minneapolis six days later. There evidently was a mechanical problem part-way through that wonderful speech, perhaps from the operator not stopping for all the outbursts of long applause, but Governor Palin (from her TV sports anchor experience) is skilled at following a teleprompter and/or looking down at a script on the podium, which enabled her to progress flawlessly through the teleprompter snafu.
She had practiced it many times that day, including that evening in her hotel room. The speech lasted approximately 40 minutes, with all the applause, and consisted of numerous pages.
Barack Obama would never have been able to deliver such a fantastic speech without the audience realizing he was having teleprompter issues.
