Vanderburgh County Right to Life: Palin Could Be Doing Other Things, But She Chose To Do This

The ADN reports:

Thursday's event doesn't carry quite the same weight for potential presidential candidates as, say, eating midway food at the Iowa State Fair or a sit-down with the Union Leader newspaper editorial board in Manchester, N.H. But the Vanderburgh County Right to Life Banquet is a big one -- with sold-out attendance of 2,180 and an additional 600 or 700 people in an overflow room at a civic center in Evansville, Ind.

"For her to go to a place like Indiana speaks volumes about who she is and where her heart is," said Marjorie Dannenfelser, who heads up the Susan B. Anthony List, which is supportive of female political candidates who oppose abortion. The organization also is affiliated with Team Sarah, a Facebook-like social networking Web site of about 70,000 Palin supporters nationwide.

"I think it's a good choice for her because it's a reflection of who she is: sort of out of the Beltway," Dannenfelser said. "She's just being who she is. And being who she is annoys Washington -- dramatically."

[...]

The Alaska governor will make a few remarks at the banquet, a fundraiser for the Vanderburgh County Right to Life Committee. She'll share the stage with the keynote speaker, Michael Steele, the chairman of the Republican National Committee. She'll also attend an event for an organization that supports families with children born with Down syndrome, such as her own infant son, Trig.

[...]

Even her visit to Indiana has a low-key feel. Local political leaders in Indiana offered to help Palin organize a fundraiser for SarahPAC, the political action committee she formed to help pay for out-of-Alaska travel not covered by the state of Alaska. Palin turned the offer down, said Nicholas Hermann, chairman of the Vanderburgh County Republican Party. That wasn't lost on Hermann -- or the banquet's organizers.

"I think the world of her, not only because of what she can offer our country and the pro-life cause, but what it says about how she wants to come here and be with people who believe in life," said Mary Ellen Van Dyke, executive director of Vanderburgh County Right to Life. "She walks the walk and talks the talks. She could, obviously, be doing other things, and she chose to do this."

UPDATE by RAM: I would just like to highlight that section in the article about how Gov. Palin turned down an offer by the local Republican Party chair to hold a fundraiser for SarahPAC. I think she did that because she sees this trip as a charity engagement for others and not a fundraiser for herself.

This paragraph also stood out for me:

Palin has deliberately kept a low national profile during the legislative session, said Meg Stapleton, an Alaska-based spokeswoman for SarahPAC.

SarahPAC hasn't been actively raising money, except for a single e-mail solicitation, said Pam Pryor, who helps run the committee from the East Coast, and the governor has turned down most invitations that have come her way, Stapleton said.

But Palin felt personally drawn to the Indiana event.

"Indiana was a generous invitation," Stapleton said. "Two things with which she identifies are special needs children and the right to life, and they had invited her a while ago. She kept it in the back of her mind and as time went by, she actually told me, 'I really want to go, I'm just going to spend less than a day in Indiana.'"

I haven't gone over the ADN website to read the full article, but this seems to be an objective article. I'm shocked!

Her attendance at these events certainly is indicative of the person that she is. She has a servant's heart, not just for public service, but in serving her fellow humans in general. I'm looking forward to hearing how the event goes.

The fact that she rejected a SarahPAC fundraiser is an indication that she did not want to distract from the importance of the other two events. A more typical politician would have worked in the fundraiser somewhere. I suspect SarahPAC will be advertised in the programs of both events, and that a number of donations will be received. SarahPAC will undoubtedly be mentioned in the local media outlets reports of the events, which will also bring in some donations. Naturally, any report on the events will cirulate through the internet.

I think she turned down the fundraising of SarahPAC because she probably just wanted to relax and not make it a day of political activity. I think she's already tired of all the politics in the Capitol and just wanted this moment to get away, to be in the presence of good-hearted people. I hope this trip brings her back re-energized.

Greg
Is there anyway to email the Right to Life and S.M.I.L.E. people and encourage them to put the Sarahpac ad in their programs?

I think she could really pick up some donations if the people there actually see the sarahpac ad.

Sarah we love you for being a real principled leader unabashedly supporting events you believe in without manipulating and pandering for pure political gain.

Awwwww, that's so sweet about turning down the offer.

I keep thinking she's going to let me down. It's sad we have had to become so cynical about politicians. I think that's part of the problem with Democrats: they have a hard time believing she's the real deal.

And despite this short trip, the democrats in Alaska are raising hell about her leaving while the Legislative session is still in session. They have a lot of room to talk. Their last democratic governor spent 35 days away while Sarah has only spent 14. Just goes to show how much she scares them.

Their website mentions that there might be a live feed of the banquet. It says they are providing a link to an online webcast for the entire event.

It's a shame that America has fell so far. So many hate this woman without cause, and our President is cherish as he denies our Christian heritage. I think Governor Palin realizes that America has a spiritual problem. Cherishing life is a good first step.
I can not wait to hear what she says.

"Cursed be he that taketh reward to slay an innocent person. And all the people shall say, Amen."

Can you imagine anyone in Washington turning down help in soliciting money for their pac? OR, can you see them going to a small town if they thought there was nothing in it for them?

This is what sets SP apart from the rabble.

Congrats to the Vanderburgh County group for shooting for the stars in asking Sarah and kudos to her for accepting.

Sarah always shows others by example more so than just words who she really is and therefore choosing this event in Indiana which tugs on her heart strings is so natural to her beliefs.
It's not always politics with her, rarely so is the case, she is the real thing and thats why we like her so much.

I cannot believe how totally fooled and naive you all are. God help you.
