Bristol Palin’s Choice

As I’ve mentioned before on this website, the manner in which Gov. Palin was treated by the mainstream media and members of the left (but I repeat myself) during the last election seriously tested my faith in the decency of my countrymen.

The treatment of Bristol Palin has nearly finished it off for good.

I have become particularly sensitive to criticism of this young woman because I was once critical of her myself, and after serious reflection, I was ashamed of my attitude.

Imagine having to go through an embarrassing, frightening, and life changing experience with the whole world watching you and mocking you.

Imagine finding yourself attacked by the very people who should be your mother’s political allies. Many of the very publications, think tanks and media resources that conservatives rely on to defend themselves against the overwhelming barrage of leftwing media have abandoned Bristol Palin to her fate. I suppose this shouldn’t surprise us. They did the same to her mother.

I came to the sad realization last November that powerhouse conservative media organizations could not be relied upon to defend Gov. Palin. Many of them never really liked her in the first place. The smart ones rallied around her because they knew that she was their only hope for winning the election, but after the financial collapse last October, nothing could have saved the GOP ticket – not even Sarah Barracuda. The fair-weather conservative elites had no use for her after that. I got involved with this website partly because I knew that none of the big shots would deign to defend her day in and day out the way that we do.

Scratch the surface of these elites and you see that their attitude towards her is just like all the others who dismissed her and underestimated her. She didn’t go to the right schools. She’s probably never read Niebuhr. She speaks with a “Fargo” accent. She doesn’t wear the right clothes. She says folksy things like “holy moly” and “doggoneit” and “big darn deal” and is apparently unaware that there is anything wrong with that.

I knew that these people would never defend her. They don’t respect her. They respect power, and they will flock to whomever has it. That’s why they hovered around her last January when she was at the Alfalfa dinner. There was the sense that she could be powerful.

After that dinner she went home and tried to get back to work, but was forced to endure months of relentless tabloidization and anklebiting. You know what I mean by anklebiting. Let me explain what I mean by tabloidization.

Our leftwing media wants us to believe that Sarah Palin is a liar, a hypocrite, an incompetent hick, a ruthless Evita-like figure, or all of the above. They’ve been able to convince most liberals of this. But not all of the independents and moderate conservatives were convinced. So then they started in with the tabloid style reporting of her family. Their goal was to get people to throw their hands up and say, “She’s a nice lady, but she’s just got too much baggage with all these tabloid-like family dramas.”

The media creates the “tabloidization of Sarah Palin” and then turns around and reports to us that she’s got too many problems and is too tabloidized to be taken seriously. That’s how the game is played.

They tabloidized her for months. And it worked on many of the fair-weather conservative elites (the ones that didn’t hate her already). Now they cringe when they hear her name.

She went to Evansville to give a speech before thousands of ordinary mid-westerners. She opened her heart to them and laid out her testimony in a way that I’ve never seen a politician do before. The ordinary people noticed. And then our leftwing media noticed too. They noticed because they were startled by how effective her message could be in challenging the culture of death. They trained their weapons on that speech and fired.

But oddly enough, that powerhouse premier conservative institution, National Review, was totally silent about her speech in Evansville. Kathryn Jean Lopez and Ramesh Ponnuru are some of the most consistent and eloquent defenders of the culture of life, and yet they had nothing to say about one of the most powerful and publicized pro-life speeches in decades.

Why?

And why is Bill Bennett attacking an 18-year-old girl who chose life and is now encouraging other girls to choose abstinence? Would Bennett prefer that she had quietly aborted the baby? I suppose he would prefer that she had not sinned at all. But that’s awfully judgmental coming from a chronic and compulsive gambler. (Hey, Bill, check out Matthew 7:5. Meditate on it. And, as a fellow Catholic, may I suggest that you reflect on the lives of the saints. Take St. Augustine for example. Before his conversion, he had a mistress and fathered an illegitimate son by her. He loved his son despite the circumstances of his birth. In fact, St. Augustine was not ashamed to admit that he loved his mistress too and the loss of her helped lead him to God.)

Just yesterday, I read an ignorant and sanctimonious attack on Bristol Palin written by a conservative (at least that’s what I assume he is) at the American Spectator named Christopher Orlet.

Orlet finds it laughable that a teenage mother like Bristol Palin would be chosen as a spokesperson for abstinence. Apparently he’s never heard of former drug addicts and alcoholics speaking out about the dangers of substance abuse.

Bristol Palin is the perfect spokesperson for abstinence because she can say the following with absolute conviction and credibility:

“Girls need to imagine and picture their life with a screaming newborn baby and then think before they have sex,” she tells PEOPLE. “Think about the consequences.”

[...]

“If girls realized the consequences of sex, nobody would be having sex,” says Bristol, sitting at her parents’ lakeside patio table. “Trust me. Nobody.”

But, you see, Bristol is also a very attractive young woman, and she looks on her son with genuine love; so this buffoon at the American Spectator thinks that she is sending a “mixed-message.” He thinks an unwed pregnant teenage crack addict would be a better spokesperson to scare teenagers straight. The more abhorrent the better. Apparently he doesn’t realize that teenage pregnancy is on the rise among white middle class teenagers just like Bristol. A spokesperson should ideally be someone the target audience can relate to.

Bristol was a good student and athlete, came from a stable two-parent home, and had an after school job. Yet it happened to her. It happens to girls like her all the time. That’s why she’s a good spokesperson for this.

The smarmy Mr. Orlet writes:

Despite her rhetoric about the hardships of motherhood, [Bristol] Palin’s baby is certainly not the burden it would be for most single teen moms. No doubt she will have a lot of expensive help in the governor’s mansion when it comes to child rearing. When Bristol goes off to college, the governor’s grandchild will have the best governesses, or will attend the best daycare, and, later, the best private schools.

Perhaps he’s unaware that the Palin children all attend public schools. But of course he wouldn’t know that. He doesn’t really know anything about the Palins. If he did, he would have known this:

Her mom may be governor, but there is no nanny in the Palin house. Bristol gets up – usually twice during the night – to feed Tripp, who sleeps in a hand-me-down crib in her bedroom, and she says she has tapped out at least one school paper with her son crying in the background. She breastfed her baby for a month, pumping milk before class and rushing straight home to feed him. And she worked two part-time jobs to help pay for the diapers and formula her parents otherwise supply.

Yeah, sounds like a dream life to me.

Orlet doesn’t spare Bristol’s mother either. He regurgitates the false claim that “Gov. Palin had been preaching the virtues of “abstinence only” for years.” No, she hadn’t. She’s always had a very pragmatic position – much to the horror of people like Bill Bennett. She doesn’t get credit for her pragmatic position from independents because our leftwing media always gets her position wrong. So she gets hit from the right for her position, but gets no respect from the left for it. (Welcome to the world of Sarah Palin.)

Orlet claims that Bristol is basking in her newfound celebrity. When did this girl ever ask for celebrity? In a recent interview, her mother recounted what this newfound “celebrity” is really like for Bristol:

Sarah: ...Just the other day Bristol and Willow were at Wal-mart and Bristol called me and said, ‘Mom, you will not believe what I’m reading on the cover of the National Enquirer!’ At first I said, ‘Don’t even waste your brain cells!’ But she was upset because the inside story said that she used drugs and that I was trying to talk her out of getting married. It gave me an opportunity to tell her that if we let it, lies and criticism can consume us to the point of becoming paralyzed. We have to answer our critics with how we live our lives.

It sure sounds like Bristol loves her newfound “celebrity” status, doesn’t it? It’s so nice seeing your face on tabloids and hearing the intimate details of your life picked apart on talk shows. Who wouldn’t want that?

Friends, I must be brutal in my application of invective. Forgive me, but Christopher Orlet is a self-righteous ass.

As for Bristol’s interview with People Magazine, no doubt some will ask, “If she doesn’t like the limelight, why did she agree to be interviewed by People Magazine?” Well, People Magazine was going to write a story about her graduation whether the Palins liked it or not. The best way to control the outcome is to grant the interview on your terms. Even still, people will glom onto snippets of the interview to infer all sorts of things.

The Associated Press did just that:

The magazine also quoted Todd Palin saying he had never spoken to his daughter about sex or contraception.

“She had enough information out there and enough examples out there. If she had questions, they would be answered,” Palin said.

I can see the headline in the next Bonnie Erbe/Margaret Carlson column: “The Palins kept their daughter ignorant!”

How many fathers out there have had frank “how to” discussions with their teenage daughters about sex and contraception. Tell the truth.

Interestingly, the Associated Press failed to quote the very next sentence in that People Magazine article:

Bristol herself says she knew about birth control -- “I was definitely educated”...

I wonder why they chose to leave that part out?

I’ve said all that I can say about the media treatment of Bristol Palin. I have come to expect the left to behave like heartless savages, but it’s another thing altogether when conservatives pile on a brave young woman who chose life.

Again, I ask: Would they have preferred that she abort? Do they not see that their treatment of Bristol Palin discourages embarrassed young teenage mothers from choosing life. It encourages them to abort. No matter whether you teach abstinence or contraception, a certain number of girls will get pregnant. It happens. What they do afterwards is a matter of life and death.

The Palins chose life. They walked the walk.

Do these conservatives really think that they can promote a culture of life by vilifying a young woman who chose life?

What would St. Augustine say?

Please take a look at Seth Adam Smith’s video excerpting Gov. Palin’s Evansville speech, and then do me a favor, friends. Email it to Kathryn Jean Lopez and Ramesh Ponnuru and ask them what they think of it.

LOVE your write up R.A!!!

Amazing video.

Great read as always Ram as I head off to bed.

I am really looking forward to the People magazine coming out on Fri. When I was at the gym earlier tonight, CNN, yes that CNN, did a short segment on it and showed some of the photo layouts in the article. They looked great.

I am so proud of Bristol and what she has accomplished under the most difficult of circumstances.

techno May 21, 2009 1:43 AM

As I have maintained on several posts Sarah Palin is facing a two-front war.

Tonight I watched a PBS documentary about how Germany was destroyed by the Western Allies coming at it from the west and the Soviet Union from the east. It wasn't immediate but as you could see watching the documentary Germany's defeat was inevitable.

With Sarah Palin the results will be no different unless one of the sides voluntarily reduces the intensity of its attack or Sarah can convince it to do so through proving she ia a viable candidaate and she can beat Obama.

Sarah's move today to re-affirm her support for Michael Steele was a move to dilute the opposition among the GOP elite and establishment.

And you know an article like this would not have been written about Bristol if SarahPAC's fundraising capabilites were on the same level as her Democrat counterpart from Alaska, Senator Mike Gravel, in the last election. Thus this article is another sign that Washington knows how massive SarahPAC's first declaration might be in July and how that declaration might affect the remainder of the 3 and 1/2 year election cycle leading up to the 2012 election.

Once again, excellent work.

I've always found it strange how people who think of themselves as caring people, can work themselves into a froth over Bristol Palin, and the fact she gave birth out of wedlock. After doing my own genealogy for years, and having helped numerous other people do theirs, I've come to the conclusion that if it wasn't for out of wedlock births, more than half of us wouldn't be here. It is a problem that has existed since there were people, and people of past generations weren't much different then they are today. So, I say to those who like to cast stones at Bristol Palin, look up your family tree, you are more likely than not to find several out of wedlock births that are your direct ancestors.

Bristol Palin is in the crosshairs because of one reason and please don't allow ourselves to be deceived that it is anything else but a concerted attack by Obama or the GOP establishment to take Sarah Palin out of the Presidential contest in 2012.

The tactics and strategy may change but the goal never does.

5 other recent examples of the MSM or prominent people making ad hominem or unjustified attacks against a prominent person:

1) Joe Klein, belittling Charles Krauthammer by saying " His work would have a lot more nuance if were to see the situations he's writing about." (Krauthammer is in a wheelchair)

2) Whoopi Goldberg calling Glenn Beck, "You're a lying sack of dog mess."

3)Jonathan Martin of Politico putting Sarah Palin down by suggesting 'how desperately Sarahcuda needs help managing her new national profile. (Sarah has not asked for it).

4)David Frum accusing Rush Limbaugh of Obama Derangement Syndrome

5)Trinity college President Patricia Mcguire calling protesters of Obama at Notre Dame religious vigilantes.

"She didn’t go to the right schools. She speaks with a “Fargo” accent. She doesn’t wear the right clothes."

There's the rub. As Dennis Miller said (at the 1:38 mark), "she unnerves people who define their life by their need to be precious". Meanwhile, the self-tabloidizing Kennedys are revered.

Miller inferred that Gov. Palin "would be happy to inspire a singular girl". Apparently, she has inspired her daughter to want to do the same.

Did any of the news shows cover Gov. Palin's statement criticizing Dear Leader? The MSM desperately wants to shove this excellent governor into the box marked "celebrity" while the Celebrity President who can't govern is portrayed as "transformative". (Sure. "Transformative" like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde)

Thank you, Rebecca and Seth. You are the best!!

Verily, when Sarah speaks, especially in full power of beauty and truth, as she does in these excerpts, my heart almost leaps out of my breast to join hers: cor ad cor loquitur, "heart speaks to heart." She is the merciful Lord's gift and opportunity to this nation. I cannot conceive of the barathrum of quasi-despair we would be mired in right now, had we not the leadership and example of Sarah...

I remember a remark of some historian or critic (I cannot recall the name) who observed about the brave officers of the British, French, and Russian allies in the Great War: men will follow a noble and courageous officer anywhere, even into the very pit of death. I also think of what the dying Boromir, in the recent movie version of the Lord of the Rings, says to Aragorn, as his eyes, closing in death, are opened up to the reality of who Aragorn is: "My brother, my captain, my king; I would have followed you anywhere!" So we can, each one of us, exclaim to Our Sarah, "My sister, my captain, my queen (president); I would follow you anywhere!!" The left (Mordor) is indeed terrified of her!!

My brother is still hanging on, and with God all things are possible. "More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of." GOD BLESS YOU ALL for your kindness, thoughts , and prayers!!

oldnwise May 21, 2009 8:04 AM

Last Friday, a friend I have know for over ten years, said to me:
I'm gong to tell you, my deepest, darkest, secret. We were at her house, after a meeeting we both attended, sitting on her patio enjoying the warm weather.
I said, in fun to her: I love deep dark secrets.
As I was chuckling, at the prospect of what she was going to tell me, I made direct eye contact with her, and saw tears, and a very flushed faced. I knew that instant, what she was about to tell me, was going to be heart wrenching. She said:
I have wanted to tell you this for a very long time. I have felt compelled to tell you....
I had an abortion, when I was nineteen years old.
I just stared at my friend, with a multitude of emotions going through me, not knowing, which emotion I felt most. Looking back, I can't even tell you how long I sat there, before I responded.
My friend is married and has three beautiful children, with her first, that just started college. She is a mom that is very involved with her children. She never misses any event they participate in. She has sleep overs, car pools and beams with love, when she looks at her children.
My friend, is always searching for something in her life. I have teased her many times, through out the years, asking her, what Guru, are you seeing this month, to make you understand the universe better?
Now, I know why my friend has been searching, and has that unsettledness within her.
I'm not going to tell you the details of our conversation that day, but I will tell you, this woman, is living with remorse, and regret.
BURDEN, I can assure you, this woman would have wished she had chosen the burden, that these jackasses speak of.
When I was leaving that day, my friend looked at me, after she hugged me, and said with sadness, now you know why I'm a neurotic.
It makes me wonder, If their would have been a Sarah Palin, 23 years ago, if my friend would have chosen pro-life.
It makes me wonder, if their would have been a teenager, like Bristol Palin, 23 years ago, if my friend would have chosen pro-life.

RAM: EXCELLENT

DB May 21, 2009 8:06 AM

RAM,
Awesome job. You really are a gifted writer. Bristol is a perfect spokesperson for abstinence for all the reasons you indicate; she understands the consequences all too well. Her mother is a perfect spokesperson for life, since she walked the walk when most others wouldn't have. And, as you've noted, others are following her lead as evidenced by the shift in the polls. I never heard of this moron, Orlet. Perhaps he is another Kathleen Parker. A so-called conservative writer with no career whom nobody had ever heard of until they attack Governor Palin and/or her family. Your use of invective is highly appropriate. He is nothing but a sanctimonious bastard. And not a very bright one at that.

PEC May 21, 2009 8:16 AM

Orlet really needs to research Sarah Palin instead of watching CNN for info on her. If he did then he would write from intelligence instead of ignorance when doing so about GOV Palin. How stupid does he look when he doen't even know the Palin children go to public not Private school. Sarah doesn't have a Nanny. The only people that help Bristol is family. For that matter, unless the Governor's mansion has moved to Wasilla he would know Bristol does not spend much time in Juneau where the Governors Mansion is. Of course he is another Elite D.A (and I don't me District Attorney) who act like they are the smartest in the world but realistically probably couldn't even point Juneau and Wasilla out on a map.

RAM - I have seen lots of talent on TS and C4P. You are still head and shoulders above all the rest of them. This is not a knock on them you are just that good.

Great news about your brother, Brianus, Lord keep him well, You know it's a shame, the Spectator was the only monthly periodical publication I used to subscribe to, yet they have been uneven in some years. We finally find a candidate, that earns out trust, subscribes to the principles that we say we believe in, and they have to find imperfections. Ben Stein for one example, turned his back on the war he had championed for the easy jibe. Orlet, bah humbug, doesn't match Byron York or Timmerman, for their insight, Certainly not James Bowman. but he has the David Brock sneer down pat.

People Magazine, I have taken a jaundiced eye towards since Benet hashed out a flawed product like Trailblazer, out of the generally positive campaign effort.Despite the good cover photo, I detected a touch of condescension in their coverage, even suggesting that she didn't attend her graduation, and didn't bother to show any pictures of same. Dobyii No Provii, "Trust but Verify" should be one of the watch words, since there is a confluence of Reaganism and the legacy of Russian colonialism tied up here. Wrangel, Wassila (a transliteration of Vassili Petrov, an outgrowth of the Czarist St. Petersburg.)

Another amazing post! That video is wonderful as well!

As a side note, I've always loved the fact that Sarah says things like "doggoneit". I never thought too much of it; that's how we Midwesterners talk! She seems so Midwestern! She sounds more like she's from Illinois than Obama does. And do I wish that she was our governor!

Nicely done Ram

“Friends, I must be brutal in my application of invective. Forgive me, but Christopher Orlet is a self-righteous ass.”

Indeed

“Again, I ask: Would they have preferred that she abort? Do they not see that their treatment of Bristol Palin discourages embarrassed young teenage mothers from choosing life. It encourages them to abort. No matter whether you teach abstinence or contraception, a certain number of girls will get pregnant. It happens. What they do afterwards is a matter of life and death.”

Excellent point.

In essence, the puritanical treatment by these sanctimonious conservatives is forcing young mothers like Bristol Palin to wear a Scarlet Letter. As a result, more young mothers will abort their unborn child. This is the point that needs to be driven home.

Bristol is not celebrating her mistake. On the contrary, she is taking responsibility by choosing life and raising her child, finishing her education and speaking out against teenage pregnancy. And that should be celebrated not condemned.

Nancy May 21, 2009 9:43 AM

Whether Sarah Palin will ever be president we are yet to learn. But one thing is for sure this woman has saved millions of lives, that’s no small achievement out beats the accomplishment of the first African American or first women for that matter to become the President of the United States.

gardunne63 May 21, 2009 10:08 AM

RAM,

If there is justice in this world, you will be Sarah's press secretary after the 2012 elections.

Until our "conservative" press start writing about Obama and his third-world half siblings, aunties, cousins, et al (the tribal version of the Carter family circa late '70's) instead of going after Sarah's in-laws and children, we can rightly call them out as being infected with the same political correctness disease as their counterparts on the Left.

If Obama didn't exist, the NEA would have to create him.

Awesome! Speechless! Tears! Ram, as I read your words and then watched that marvelous video, I realized that what we are seeing is the Hand of God using and speaking to a corrupt, fallen culture through an imperfect, yet yielded servant. The reason Sarah is hated is because her life and her choices are a rebuke to the "culture of death and expediency" that permeates both our popular and political culture. The reason she is loved is because of the raw courage, honor and conviction with with she lives, leads and governs. I believe the larger battle is a spiritual battle and must be fought in with prayer and faith. I know some may not share my convictions and that's fine. We agree on far more than we might disagree and we all want Sarah's success.

PEC May 21, 2009 11:05 AM

I kind of wonder how many of these so called Pro-Life Conservative Elites hate Bristol and Sarah because as Bristol went through with the pregnancy when they were faced with choice they drug their daughter down to the clinic for the Abortion whether than face having a pregnant unwed daughter. Now their guilt is eating at them. They didn't practice what they preached and hate somebody that did. Just a suggestion.

Techno and Tommy, I think this would be right up your alleys, too. I think of you guys every time I see that word on the cover.

"Outliers" discusses the who, what, when, where and why that make certain people successful, i.e., there are just as many Nobel laureates from Harvard as there are from state schools.

Why did an elite Canadian jr hockey league have a team roster whose members predominantly had birthdays in Jan, Feb and March? (Wait till you see the reason.)

This book is riveting from the first page. I see a lot of preconceived notions (re Obama) in this book versus the surprises (Sarah) that come along in life.

Oldnwise,

May God Bless your friend, sounds like God already did by you being there for you friend.

Sarah's influence on the Political scene in America is really in it's infancy, she is young and like a good wine will only get better with time. I personally think she is already positioned for whatever she chooses to do and very qualified, smart as a whip, a rock star personality, and hell bent on challenging all who wish to underestimate her.

Rusty May 21, 2009 3:45 PM

Well, I see that that "Other McCain", R.S. McCain, is now saying in his blog that he SUPPORTS EVERYTHING Orlet has written about Bristol!

Look, I understand why the left have gone after Bristol and Sarah. Apart from the national politics, they want to publicly make it so hard on Bristol and Sarah, that any other family that finds itself in this situation will opt for an abortion to escape possible criticism, shame and ridicule.

The message they want to send is look, Sarah and Bristol could have avoided all of these problems if Bristol had just had an abortion. So make sure this doesn't happen to your family. They want to use the Palins as an object lesson to promote their anti - life agenda.

However, like you RAM, I am astonished at how many paople on the right, and in the pro life movement, are are aiding and abetting the left in helping to promote abortions by going after Bristol. Each time they critize her, they are helping the left in convincing other families - that find themselves in this situation - that it would be much easier to opt for an abortion, than face the public criticism and ridicule that would come from having the baby.

As for Bill Bennett attacking an 18 year old girl because she couldn't control her sexual urges. Give me a break, this from a grown man who can't control his gambling and eating urges. Bill, gambling is not a virtue or a harmless vice - it destroys hundreds of thousands of families every year and is just as destructive and no better than drug use. Also, you might want to remember that glutony is also a sin.

As for R.S. McCain - well today you have shown yourself to be as clueless as that other McCain!

I did as you suggested RAM and I emailed Seth’s moving video to Kathryn Jean Lopez and Ramesh Ponnuru asking them for their thoughts. I will let you know if I get a reply.

sandra May 21, 2009 5:26 PM

Rusty: Where do you get the idea that the left wants to encourage abortion? There is probably only 1% of the population that wants more abortions.

RAM -

What you said. Hear, hear!
Like Van Halen, you rock.

An amazing post, and an inspiring video. Sarah moves mountains. She represents the core values of this Nation. Bristol Palin is the perfect role model for all women, young and old. She has fallen into that hole, and has climbed out of it and made the best out of her situation. She could whine about it, but no, she fights. She fights to educate women, and to help guide them to a safer path.

J June 8, 2009 3:29 PM

besides this being a rather poor written article by a rather poor closed minded writer....don't any of you wonder why palin is still basically in campaign mode...why she is still trying to place all blame for everything on the "liberal media and the democrats." Does she DO anything besides whimper and bitch about everything...has she done anything for her state?...and does she realize that not to many people respect Alaskan politics......One more thing....if she is such a great American...how come her husband was part of a group to help Alaska secede from the United States..what a partiot don cha know....tell her kid to keep her crotch shut

"Bristol was a good student and athlete, came from a stable two-parent home, and had an after school job. Yet it happened to her. It happens to girls like her all the time. That’s why she’s a good spokesperson for this."

Nothing "happened" to Bristol Palin. Saying it that way implies that she and/or her parents had nothing to do with what "happened" to her.

A stable, two-parent home, athletics, good grades, and all the other stuff is great. But what Bristol needed in addition to being a beautiful and talented girl from a strong family was BIRTH CONTROL. Then this would not have "happened" to her.

Mae June 16, 2009 2:37 PM

I want to get preggo like Bristol and earn lots of money from a place that advertises perfumes with photos of guy sporting a woody.

the above IS the message Bristol is sending to American teens...

sarah June 25, 2009 2:42 PM

I'm glad she had a choice.

JohnH July 4, 2009 10:24 AM

To J:
Your post is an utter disgrace.
It's time to take your pill.
Take the whole bottle, dude.
I'll buy you 2 more tomorrow.
You can give 1 to Sarah

JohnH July 4, 2009 1:25 PM

My apologies to Sarah.I meant
Mae.
Sarah, you pose a valid argument.
However, I must disagree that the parents are culpable in any way.
Bristol made a bad choice.
Simple as that.
One of my daughters made the same bad choice (albiet she was 20) despite out teachings.
And yes, she had access to birth control.
I love my daughters very much and have a grand daughter now whom I love. But I have use for her father.
1st time he came to my house, he went right to the fridge, threw open the door and hung on it while looking for a free lunch !
I knew who he was right then and there.
I dearly hope he never has the jewels to call me "dad" !!!

JohnH July 4, 2009 2:16 PM

Again, my sincerest apologies to Sarah.
And before J has the opportunity for criticizing my "essay" abilities,
I gotta swap out this Compaq silver keyboard with the black keycaps !
That, along with my diabetic "shakies" and my hunt and peck style
of typing and bad eyesight makes typo's frequent !
That being said, I forgot to mention the reason, other than J's abominable comment,
why I decided to put in my 2 cents worth.

R.A. Mansour: I never had any doubts about Bristol's integrity but had some
about her Mom Sarah. Seth's video (and your excellent article) put me SO much
more at ease with her. I got choked up watching Sarah talk about her newest child.
Genuine tears were shed on BOTH our parts.

And If Mrs Sarah Palin happens to read this Please know that I have a profound new
respect and admiration for you and your family.
I WILL be making a donation your legal defence fund.
I wish you Godspeed in whatever your endeavors are after resigning.
And know that I pray for all of your family.

And I apoligise to the readers for taking 3 posts in a row to express my feelings.
Except to you, J

I just read this, and I am ticked.

I'm ticked for the same reasons RAM was / is ticked: the shameful treatment of Bristol Palin as an excuse to attack her mother.

What is even more frustrating than the National Enquirer is the shameful treatment / silence by the people on the right, as RAM so accurately points out.

My friend the retired Reaganite - he will be getting a link to this article in the very near future. It was written for him, and his wife, and all their home school moms who judged Sarah for having "allowed" such a misfortune.

"Never in my house would Daddy have let something like this happen" - a virtual quote from one of the home school moms.

I reminded my friend of Romans 8;28, and the fact that SP's greatest contribution to the world, in my not so humble opinion, will be / is regarding the CHOOSING OF LIFE.

Never ever forget this:
Sarah Palin says two simple things:
- I choose life
- States should decide laws in this matter.

Ponder what I just wrote. Be very careful about what it is that Sarah Palin stands for, because she is a living, breathing example of one who lives out her values.

Just as people say "who knows why she resigned from the governer's office ?" (even though she plainly said why she was resigning), be sure you only quote what Sarah says:

"I choose life"

and also never forget that Sarah says often

"Life is about choices"

Yes.it.is.

Thank you RAM for all that you do.

Thank you Sarah Palin.

Thank you Todd Palin.

Thank you Bristol Palin.

Thank you Chuck and Sally Heath.

May God continue to bless all of them, protect them, guide them, and may the scales be lifted from the young people of this nation.

I will have more to say on this later.

Bill in Baltimore August 4, 2009 6:10 PM

in case you haven't done so already, I took my own swipe at the media on how they (and the right) treat Sarah Palin (and Bristol in particular).

go to www.info-scroll.com/c4p, look for link

"Imperfect Palin teaches the Nation".

while you're there, read "The Effect of Sarah Palin" (which I wrote last fall).

Auntie Coosa August 18, 2009 10:18 PM

The Video has been removed . . . I'm sure it was good, though.

The larger weakness of the GOP is the power courting opportunists and RINO's who are disloyal to REAL conservatives when it serves them and don't have the integrity or character to not only get their facts straght, but to speak the truth even when they have it.
It's great to see what appears to be a resurgence of the founding values that conservatives hold dear, but the GOP has a LONG way to go before it can regain its credibility in the mainstream.
That will only happen as it walks-the-talk and the voters do some housecleaning.
Hopefully, "Juan" McCain (the illegal alien's best amigo) will be retired before then which will lighten the work load.
At least Benedict Arlen Sphincter has fully turned from RINO larva to a full liberal pestilence and left on his own.
The quality public servant that Sarah Palin is stands in razor sharp contrast to the hopefully small number of cronies and corrupted swill that sullied the GOP over the years.
It's no wonder those polluting elements hate her.
If Sarah does run for VP on a ticket with, perhaps Alan Keys, in 2012 and wins, I'd like to see them replace "wise" racial supremacist La Raza member and socialist Red Sonya with Michelle Malkin on the Supreme Court.
Let's see the liberal left wave the racial or glass ceiling mud flap against THAT ticket.
The Palin family ROCKS!
