On the Rise of the Cincinnatus Blog

Lest it appear a little obsessive, I hesitate momentarily in admitting that over the past few days I have, on occasion, spent some time observing the flow of traffic in and out of the C4P site. However, I know I am not alone in this behaviour, since some C4P commenters have also indicated that they too have been watching the Sitemeter, and have noted that the number of people visiting here continues to expand:

Yes, I am watching the Live Feed and there are quite a few coming over from Kos; I'm seeing a few from overseas as well.
(Yogi41: 5 May: 9.51pm)

Had you accompanied me to the Sitemeter today (9 May) you would have learned, as I did, that in January of this year C4P had some 19,286 visitors, averaging approximately 622 visits per day, and that by the end of April the numbers visiting had grown to 151,929, a near 8 fold increase in the space of 3 months.

In the first 8 days of May alone, the Sitemeter shows that 61,515 visits occurred, an average of 7,689 per day – a potential 230,670 for the month of May as a whole, if the current rate of interest is sustained for its 30 days (ie. a more than 12 fold increase on January’s figure).

Aside from the United States itself, recent visitors by location have included those from: Israel, Canada, the UK, Denmark, Australia, Malaysia, Brunei, Nigeria, Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, Singapore, Sweden, Poland, India, France, The Philippines, Ireland, Finland, Bahrain, Germany, New Zealand, The Netherlands and Norway.

That’s visitors from 24 different countries, and from multiple locations in some of the larger land masses, such as Australia and Europe.

Speaking as someone who began to visit this site in December, and regularly from early January, I’d like to offer a perspective on why it is that people from all over the United States and, indeed, the world are coming here in such increasing numbers, and why this site appears to have moved so far forward in such a relatively short space of time. Let's look to the comment threads on this site:

By the way, since I haven't taken the time to address you before now, let me take the opportunity to pour praise all over you and your colleagues here running and contributing to C4P.

This site is incredible!!....and over the past several months has become without question the place to come to for all the absolute latest on all things Palin.
(napsalot: May 8: 9.08 pm)

Fundamentally, for the majority of visitors there is an interest in Governor Palin, perhaps pursued initially, after the 2008 election campaign, via patronage of Team Sarah and other such pro-Palin sites.

Yet at this place in particular, a number of defining moments seem to have helped drive forward the site’s development, and the increasing attraction it holds, not least the rationalising of a philosophical basis for the support of Governor Palin, argued in formal essays such as R. A. Mansour’s “C4P Who We Are And What We Stand For” and in Mansour’s “Who Is Sarah Palin”, but also, more recently, for example, in presentations by other contributors with very different backgrounds, like Rob Harrison’s “On Gov Palin, Ordinary Barbarians and Blazing the Trail”, and in The Aged P’s “Blogging for England, Palin and St George”.

It seems to me that these types of definition statement are unusual and are helping to encourage a unique identity for C4P, a type of spirit with which many visitors associate themselves readily once here, and allowing visitors to feel that they can become active participants in a common purpose, a purpose they can share with those who operate the site - something which is acknowledged regularly in the “ownership” comments made by readers:

I have said this before and I will say it again: This site is conservatives4palin.com

NOT, I repeat NOT iamnotsurewhoiam4.com.

[…]

Anyway, we love to discuss Palin here. We love to support Palin here. We love to defend Palin here. We do not mislead people where we stand (refer back to the name of this website.)

[…]

…I am all about Palin. People who complain about our strong support of Palin on a site that is in your face about WHO we support just get old after a while. Go to another site, I do not think you will change anyone's opinion here about Gov. Palin. That is why we hang out on a website named conservatives4palin. If you stay, go with the flow, don't be critical that we are sold totally on Palin (refer to the website name again). Very simple.
(Lipstick: 8 May 3.19pm)

The site is fortunate, also, in having established a core of citizen contributors with differing skills, able to bring varied approaches and perspectives, and this seems one way in which the interests of a broad, overwhelmingly supportive audience are being met successfully.

It was, quite clearly, a significant moment in the site’s brief history that a satirical video recording, produced by one of its contributors last week, attracted the attention of two national cable news networks. However, this in itself could also be seen to be simply building constructively on the groundwork, of blogging, emailing, radio interviews, press interviews, shout-outs on a local radio station in Alaska and the appearance of some of Mansour’s articles at both The Alaska Standard and SarahPAC, which has been in progress throughout the last several months.

In my opinion, there can be little doubt that the Editors of the site are working daily with a clear sense of purpose, demonstrated on the occasions when, for example, Joseph Russo and Videmus Omnia have produced research-based articles serving to exemplify Governor Palin’s achievements, or point by point analyses which have exposed the tardiness of the reporting of others, or the hypocrisy of some of Goveror Palin’s critics. One interesting extension of this was the collaborative work done recently by the editorial team members about the ways in which liberal bloggers work together against Governor Palin.

In addition, the site is favoured in having a heartbeat of citizen commenters with specialised knowledge. It’s clear that amongst those commenting regularly there are people with knowledge of legal matters and data analysis, citizens of Alaska with an interest in their state’s political landscape, and a number of effective multi-media specialists able to provide audio and video recordings quickly and proficiently.

One very common approach being taken by such commenters is the provision of links to articles and other media, in proactive support of the main contributors, but also as a means to justify argument to fellow commenters, and for occasions where such argument is carried to other sites in the blogosphere. And this can be taken to validate further the perception that, on most occasions, it is the content of the argument which is a common concern for contributors and reader/commenters alike, at this site:

Here's a write-up of the seafood event that TP attended in place for SP:
"Salmon Fishing in SoHo"
http://dinersjournal.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/05/08/salmon-fishing-in-soho/

This Investor Business Daily article talks about her testimony:
"Drill, Ivan, Drill"
http://www.ibdeditorials.com/IBDArticles.aspx?id=326589033617322
(Tommy Report: 8 May: 6.52pm)

Tellingly, the site’s managers deal swiftly and decisively with visitors whose intention it is merely to be disruptive, disrespectful and abusive, so that discussion amongst those visitors who are here to uphold the site’s values is protected, fostered and allowed to develop within the comment threads:

IT, you have been spamming our comment sections with the same off topic nonsense all day. This is your final warning. You do it one more time and you will be banned for life and all your comments will be automatically deleted.
(RAM: 8 May 2009: 1.43pm)

Equally telling, there is also a confidence of purpose demonstrated in the way in which challenge is being directed independently, openly, promptly and in a civilised manner by those associated with C4P, at those who misrepresent or detract from Governor Palin’s achievements, whoever or wherever they may be.

Long may that continue.

You're making me blush.

Super Super...I could not go a day without this place. Thank you all for your contributions, knowledge and skill in delivering the message of Sarah to all of us.

IAC,
This is the best blog because of the excellence of the contributors. It all begins with their excellent writing and analysis. Good writing attracts good readers and commenters. It's as simple as that. This website will continue to grow as more and more of Governor Palin's supporters discover the goldmine of information this site has to offer. On the downside, more and more trolls will visit as they attempt to blunt the growing influence of C4P. But, as you point out, C4P knows how to deal with trolls!

Greg May 10, 2009 3:36 PM

C4P is gaining ground since it is the only site devoted exclusively to Sarah Palin which updates regularly with indepth analysis. There are a few of us here who routinely post C4P news and analysis on Free Republic, and whenever I look at Feedjit it shows a lot of people arriving via HotAir, Free Republic, and several others sites as well, which would indicate that there are several sites that are linking to stories here at C4P. I'm sure that once people start arriving here via other sites, many like what the see, and bookmark C4P. Feedjit also shows that a lot of people are googling C4P, or arriving her because they have googled a Palin related story, such as ethics complaints. On days when really big stories are broken, Feedjit is rolling steadily every time I take a look. I looks to me that over half of the incoming traffic originates in states that voted for 0bama, which is promising as well. Even more promising is that just about everytime I take a look it doesn't take watching more than a few minutes to see people leaving C4P via either SarahPAC or AFT.

Lisa Graas May 10, 2009 3:36 PM

It's clear that C4P is THE PLACE TO GO for fresh and accurate information on all things Palin -- a beacon of light in the fog Palin-haters from both parties continually spew online. Great work, guys. I am in awe of your dedication to providing readers with the unfiltered facts. People are obviously craving to know the rational explanations that are ignored by those who seek to destroy the best thing to happen in American politics since the Reagan era....and you provide this service in abundance. I'm not surprised that the site is going viral. Anyone who appreciates the truth about Sarah Palin will find a comfortable home at C4P.

Neo May 10, 2009 3:38 PM

GREAT post!I agree this is a place for Pro Palin folks. Please do not allow it to be turned into a pro v con Palin site!

AKReport May 10, 2009 3:45 PM

yes, C4P is the best

awesome work everyone

ellen May 10, 2009 3:45 PM

I have definitely been coming to this site more, ever since Palin's right to life speech. Its so refreshing to see that kind of thing, and then read intelligent comments by people who agree.

Also, don't forget about traffic from ppl who subscribe to the RSS feed. I use that on my phone more often than not.

Debtstar May 10, 2009 3:54 PM

Great work all of you.

Greg May 10, 2009 4:16 PM

I have to admit that I have become a C4P junkie. I stop by often during the day and night to see what's new. On days where news is slow, and not much new comes up, I start to have withdrawal symptoms.

EMC May 10, 2009 4:18 PM

One of the things that makes this site so awesome (aside from the "all Palin, all the time" information) is the inside lingo that goes along with following it. The humor on this site is one of a kind...I mean, Mittens?? Seriously funniest nick name ever!

And everyone does such a good job in their posts of linking to previous stories and such, however someday it would be cool (and maybe useful to new readers) to compile all terms on one post.
A C4P dictionary, if you will. Defining words used often by commentors and editors, as well as nicknames. Or maybe that's the intrigue of the site; speaking in code. What do you guys think?

All in all, keep up the humor...it lightens the day!

ZH May 10, 2009 4:20 PM

C4Pis a great blog; articles based on research and facts and a great team of contributors.
Visit this blog several times a day to keep informed.
And it is a decent blog . (keep it that way!)

Thanks C4P contributors for your dedication to inform us accurate about "Palin things"!

AdoringPalin May 10, 2009 4:27 PM

..we love to discuss Palin here. We love to support Palin here. We love to defend Palin here. We do not mislead people where we stand...
And we will never be intimidated and we will never give up!

“Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy”. (Psalm 126)

Thank you C4P, the editors, contributors and all that make this site so special for all your good and important work.

Jenny May 10, 2009 4:37 PM

The C4P guys are amazing. Not only you guys great intellects, but you defend Palin against idiots in the elite MSM and educate those morons. Also, what I love about this site is that the writers engage in conversation with us all the time. Can't say that about many sites. I also have to say I know more about Alaskan politics than I do with NJ (Although I do know Corzine has got to go). LOL. Keep it up C4P!!

Brianus Berkleianus May 10, 2009 5:10 PM

AdoringPalin, I love your Psalm citation: indeed, we shall never, never surrender: we shall fight on the blogs, we shall fight in e-mails, we shall fight on the phone, we shall fight in close proximity, we shall fight from great distances...we shall defend our ancient Republic and its noblest incarnation, Governor Sarah Palin...indeed, we shall so comport and conduct ourselves that, e'en if our Republic endures another millennium and more, men (and women--updating Winston!!) shall nevertheless say that this was their finest hour---I hope Winston Churchill's shade will not mind my borrowing!

God bless you all

C4P, may your sitemeter numbers ever increase!

HC May 10, 2009 5:34 PM

Bill Bennett stated that the future of the GOP is not Sarah Palin....it is posted on HotAir. This is what I hate most about the GOP right now. All of the infighting is so detrimental to what needs to be done. I am getting fed up. Sarah never says a bad word about any of these so-called experts and I highly doubt that they could have handled all she and her family have been through.

I think I am going to write a little email to Bill Bennett to tell him that as far as I am concerned she is the future of the GOP for me and no one else will get my money nor my vote, unless they start treating her with respect.

Brianus Berkleianus May 10, 2009 5:55 PM

Aged P,

Sir, dear Sir, I hope you see my remarks!! I missed your splendid article of 24 April, "Blogging for England, Palin and St. George." The exigencies of work and of my brother's illness prevent my visiting this site so often as I would wish to. Sir, you are an honor/honour and ornament to your tongue/our tongue. Thank you for your fervent, eloquent, heartfelt support for Our Sarah, sent from the Mother Country. Your remarks on St. George remind me of a day many years ago at Stanford University (yes, this Berkeley native did grad work at Stanford in the Classics)... Professor Donald Russell, an illustrious British Classicist, made my two classmates and me tea as we met in his ofice on St. George's Day for our class in Greek Prose Composition (yes, we still do Latin and Greek Prose and Verse Composition in the States--it's rare, but it lives yet!!--the candle flickers, but will ne'er be extinguished!) Prof. Russell remarked with pride that it was St. George's Day...and proceeded to critique, with his gentle expertise, the Greek prose I had submitted to him a few days before.

Sir, we sundered our political ties with Britain more than two centuries ago; however, the bonds and bands of tongue, of sentiment, of heart, of spirit can never be sundered.

God bless you.

St. George, pray for us!!

Brianus

Neo May 10, 2009 6:00 PM

HC - Sarah may, or may not, be the 'future' of the GOP. It depends on where the GOP goes. Sarah is a conservative - Period! If the GOP moves left of her (it already is) then it's their loss.

That aside - for Bennett, or any Republican, especially a conservative, to make a comment like he did only fuels the left.

Has anyone ever heard Sarah state she even cares about being the future of the GOP? Who the hell would want to be the future of that bunch of semi-liberals?

bernie12 May 10, 2009 6:33 PM

Thank God for C4P! You guys do a outstanding job keeping us informed and uptodate on events concerning Gov. Palin. The hard work you put into this site is greatly appreciated by many who support the Govenor.

I come here about 3 or 4 times aday, if not more, just to keep my sanity from the lies and
half truths directed at the Good Gov. C4P is a form of therapy for me, i guess ypu could
say.

Keep up the Great Work!

Nancy May 10, 2009 7:01 PM

To all the people who run C4P, thanks for all the wonderful work you do! This site is going to be a major force in the battles ahead!

heshtesh May 10, 2009 7:49 PM

I find that every time i read a post or article that portrays the Gov. in a negative light i immediately head for C4P to get the truth. It might take a little while but i know every time it will be dealt with in an intelligent and honest manner. Thank You all who participate at C4P to make this what i think is the best site available for honest debate conceaning Sarah Palin.

bruce nahin May 10, 2009 8:39 PM

I am from Los Angeles, yet I visit your site because of its indepth, skilled discussion of the issues presented. It is not a blog dedicated to hyperbole like so many others, but honest indepth research and facts, that I have come to depend on, blessing and for you ladies, happy mothers day

DrChill May 10, 2009 8:58 PM

Congrats on your popularity surge, and that very funny video.
I've been here much more in the last couple of weeks, so count me among those who have counted in this bump.

Some people who have made up their minds and strongly favor Palin will find this site and find it very agreeable.
Many more may not find it quite so comfortable.

Some of us are looking for reasons more than agreement.

You have a good list of characteristics of your site, and I hope you continue to improve them.
I hope you're open to constructive criticism.
ciao'

Lipstick May 10, 2009 9:11 PM

I too admit I am a c4p junkie.

I had went over the internet looking for a pro Palin site that reported the truth and was updated regularly.

I was so happy to find this site.

I am all about Palin.

Please keep up the good work and please continue to be hard liners on trolls and everyone being civil in the comments.

Thanks!

Nicky May 11, 2009 1:53 AM

I must admit, all through my life I never had an addiction, but C4P has gotten me addicted and I'm not ashame of that.
I guess from Azerbaijan I'm the only follower, I maybe wrong though. Ever since Adams of DraftSarahPalin4VP introduced me to C4P just immediately after the elections, I have been a religious follower. I start my day with C4P and I end my day with C4P. The beauty of it all is that C4P directs me through out other news I get to read from the internet.
I really wish I too can post blogs to the website just to give it an entirely neutral and a moderate Islamic mindset (I'm not one, but I'm surrounded by them).
So C49, Keep doing what you are do though...

Nicky May 11, 2009 2:49 AM

I meant to end with "so C4P, keep on doing what you are doing, though..."

Carolyn May 11, 2009 11:01 PM

I come here every day to read the truth about Governor Palin, amazing how it can differ from the MSM version of events. It's wonderful to see interest in C4P growing so rapidly.

john July 30, 2009 8:48 AM

I have been a SP supporter ever since she stepped on the natiopnal stage as VP for whats his name- her views on issues became evident as I listened to her, she was like a breath of fresh air in a political arena that stinks of corruption and dishonesty. I would not have voted in last election if not for SP because the GOP cantidate did not represent me so my vote was basically a vote for SP not the guy running with her.
I am very interested in the direction SP chooses to go politically, I would support her. I am not tied to any party, I do vote conservative which is why I had no horse in the last race until SP showed up. I like this site and will check it often..Thanks

I was not a Sarah Palin supporter until recently. I admit that my biggest concern with her, was her association with John McCain (I am originally an Arizonan and have serious reservations about him).

In fact, I supported Romney during the last election, because I felt then (and still feel) that he was so much better than the rest of the Republican field.

However, I am also somewhat of a contrarian and, after hearing all sorts of negativism from the MSM, I decided to check her out.

While it is early days to tell, I am becoming more convinced that Sarah Palin is the genuine article. Truth to tell, I'm hoping for, at the very least, a reprise of the "Reagan Revolution" and she is the only one, thus far, that I've seen who seems to not only understand what needs to be done, but why.

Merchant Loans April 29, 2010 1:28 AM

I recently came across your post and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that it caught my interest and you've provided informative points. I will visit this blog often. Thank you.
