Pretty Boy Mitt Romney Snarks About Palin's Looks
Ben Smith at Politico quotes Mitt Romney in regards to Governor Palin's selection for Time's "100 Most Influential" list:
KING: As you launch this effort, anyone who picks up "Time" magazine this week and sees the 100 most influential people, will see two Republicans in that magazine. They'll see Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh. Is that helpful, hurtful, indifferent?
[...]
ROMNEY: John, I'd like to have a lot more influential Republicans. I think there are a lot more influential Republicans than that would suggest. But was that the issue on the most beautiful people or the most influential people? I'm not sure. If it's the most beautiful, I understand. We're not real cute.
Hey, Mitt - who's out there trying to be a beautiful person? I seem to remember this ad, which the NYT lambasted as "Romney Shows a Little Leg":
We're all believers in the Eleventh Commandment here at C4P. But it's not a suicide pact. We think of it like the Geneva Convention - we won't bomb mosques unless you store weapons there.
So long as Mitt is content to build himself up, then we treat him with respect and he's just "Governor Romney." But when he resorts to his passive-aggressive elitist snark, like he did above and in his CPAC speech, then he becomes "Mittens" and we start chatting about his pandering, flip-flopping, and disastrous RomneyCare.
Engage the filter, Mitt!

Cantor gve a much better response - he must not be planning on a run.
Romney just came across as petty.
Persona non grata.
No wonder the majority of Republicans I know can't stand Romney's face. I am SO glad that Sarah wants nothing to do with RINOS like him. Romney, your a JERK!
Expect the "good looking" comments to continue
us PUMAs need to be ready for the sexist attacks that will come out of the good ole boy crowd.
everytime sarah is dismised as "good looking" that is pure sexisim.
What is Romney's deal? What a sexist remark. That was directed straight at Sarah. No way could you consider Rush beautiful.
If it had been another man, Romney would have never said that.
To bad Romney can't compete with Sarah on the standing FIRM on your stance on issues or the looks front.
What a weasel.
Who said the thing on this site about "What would it take to get you in this BMW?" They were so right.
So, Mitt, are you saying that Rush isn't beautiful? (sarc off)
Heh, heh. I'd take him over you any day -- beauty AND brains.
Will sending Romney a pair of flip flops help? Will this guy just stop with the comments, he is doing nothing for the party.
Sarah 2012!!!
It's kinda of funny to see Mittens dismiss Sarah as beautiful when the whole raison d'etre of Mitten's candidacy is to use bland good looks to send powerful, conservative elites( male and female) into orgasmic raptures. Pot kettle black, Mittens?
There's A Bore In The Woods
Can't remember where I read it (probably here sometime) but somebody wrote that Mitt looks like an actor someone would cast to play the president. Actually, he does look kinda' like Martin Sheen, doesn't he?
MWN, :) +10
Well played, sir or madam.
Romney's being jealous and angry that he wasn't included on Time' 100 Most Influential List is understandable.
Romney obviously is envious of Sarah's popularity and influence. I have seen him put Palin down in other interviews by implying she is all fluff and no substance.
Romney should conduct himself with more class. Envy does not wear well on him.
Betcha' he doesn't like that Sarah made front page of Politico and he didn't.
MWN, awesome! Putting it on my twitter.
Romney is not on Time's list because he has not done anything.
Sarah was the first VP nominee on the Rep. ticket and the first period in years.
Sarah is the first woman governor of her state.
She is the youngest governor of her state.
She kicked the oil companies butt in AK.
Gave an impressive speech at the RNC.
Drew thousands to her rallies during the campaign.
Gee, I could go on and on.
Now, doesn't she deserve to be on the list Mittens?
Plus, I'm sorry. I am a woman and Palin looks way better than you when she is running. She is a real runner.
Add Mitt Romney to the growing list of Republicans who are jealous of Gov. Palin. He is in fine company with Mike Huckabee and Newt Gingrich.
MWN, in honor of you I just zipped off and updated my blog:

"The Bear Vs. The Bore"
Thanks! :)
all of these 2012 nominee hopefuls are just out for cheap shots against Sarah.
i guess mitt thinks he may GET the nomination THIS TIME if he tries to shoot down the GOP's darling?
doubt it.
I replayed the VP speech against Biden, and she is a smart and executive driven lady, wish that our governor cared about our state 1/10th as much as Sarah cares about Alaska.
I just read the Politico artical by Ben Smith to which this post refers. There were comments by someone by the name of Greg that says it all. I'm guessing it is the Greg who comments here regularly. Anyway, this is what Greg wrote.
"Jeb Bush, Romney, and Cantor showed up in Alexandria VA yesterday to promote their new group. They attracted 50-100 people to a pizza joint, and I'll bet they had to offer free pizza to get that many. If Palin was in their little group, they would have attracted thousands of people. You know that has to make these guys jealous. When Romney campaigned for Chambliss in the GA runoff election, he had 2 events attracting 100 to 1 and 200 to the other. Paln had 4 events with attendance of 2,000, 3,000, 4,000, and 6,000. When Palin was in Evansville 2 weeks ago, they had to block off streets due to the crowds who showed up just to watch her enter the building. The event she attended usually attracts about 2,000, with her there, over 3,000 paid to get in. So Romney, and the others can say what they want, but Palin will beat them all.
Posted By: greg | May 03, 2009 at 03:37 PM".
I hereby second Greg's comments.
Romney attended two rallies for Chambliss, one drew about 100 people and the other about 200. Palin had for rallies ranging from 2,000 to 6,000.
I'm still betting that the event yesterday with Romney, Jeb Bush, and Cantor offered free pizza, and that's how the got 50-100 people to show up. Otherwise, they probably would have had 10.
You know for a fact that McCain and all the others are jealous at the crowds that naturally form whenever Palin appears anywhere.
Listen to Mark Levin put Romney in his place:

DB, that was me, and I was busy reposting somewhat the same comments here, but they bear repeating. None of these guys hold a candle to Sarah Palin
That video is funny.
So there will be a hard choice between girlymen and a woman.
hrh:
Great title. MWN not only is quite witty but he/she inspires as well.
Greg set the record straight on that board! Way to go.
Does Palin just walk around normal in AK? Is it just in the lower 48 where people go crazy to just catch a glimpse of her?
Somehow I picture her just going into the drug store to pick something up in AK and no one hardly notices her. If she did that in the lower 48, complete pandemonium. Or is it like that too in AK or just on a much smaller scale?
I will say it again, anyone correct me, what VP on a ticket that has lost, still has the steam that Sarah has today 6mo later? To my recall, no one....
Go Sarah 2012!
Lipstick - I've been wondering the same thing.
Can anyone living in AK offer insight on this?
I personally bet life is pretty normal for her in AK; we just are more fascinated with her since we don't get to see her much :(
debtstar, lo. another funny comment that's going up in my twitter.
With nutty sexist comments like these, one would wonder how long Romney's campaign against Sarah Palin would last.
Greg,
I thought it was you. I was going to post something there but when I saw your comments, I couldn't think of anything else to say. Great comments.
Lipstick -
I heard she gets fans all over her in AK too when she walks in public. I read somewhere that one of her sisters said that going to the store to get milk with her is crazy, so Sarah can't really go out anymore or something. I'm guessing this happens either in Anchorage or Wasilla.
Mitt doesn't really move his arms when he runs. It looks weird. :)
Ceejay -
Yeah, it's amazing how a "losing" VP candidate still gets all the attention and celebrity treatment. That means that she was definitely wronged by the media. There is still a lot of love for her. I was looking at the election results again and realized that nearly 60 million people voted for her. I say "voted for her" because how many actually voted for McCain. It was because of her. His rallies were so dead.
Lipstick-
Alaskans love,admire and respect her.
But we don't smother her with our admiration...That would be impolite.
We identify with her...We don't idolize her...
She's 'one-of-us'....
(And the majority of Alaskans continue to support her)
This may not be a comparable example, re: Sarah gets more public attention outside of Alaska than when she's home, but here in Nashville, you can see all manner of famous singers and musicians in stores and restaurants and they're seldom ghermed, but they're mobbed when out of town.
Just whatever the locals are used to, I guess.
"Well played, sir or madam."
Thanks. Oh, and I'll try to use my full screen name occasionally to clear things up. ;=)
-Mr. Wednesday Night
Is KBH running against Rick Perry to take out a known Palin ally?
KentonAK:
Thanks for the insight.
I am glad that she is not smothered in public at home. she can have more of a normal life. That makes me happy.
Sarah is one of us, and I am glad that Alaskans let her just be Sarah when at home.
Also glad that she is still supported by the majority of Alaskans.
Odd thought popped into my head from this discussion: Could Sarah be staying in Juneau 'cause most of the anklebiters seem to be back home in Wasilla? Yep, now that I'm typing it, it does look like an odd thought.
Still, staying in Juneau, is there going to be a special session?
hrh, she could be staying in Juneau until Piper finishes school.
There are many bills that haven't reached her desk yet, so she still has to close out this session.
Bills coming to her desk and Piper's school is why she is still there.
Much more sensible reasons for the Juneau stay. Thanks. :)
Romney is not worth the paper he is printed on.
Maybe he should just do his farm thang.... IMO of course.
Mitt Romney is a jealous little store mannequin. Jesus. He had all this cash on hand and John McCain, who looked like a extra out of Dawn of the Dead beat him like a tin drum.
He's a two-bit phony who has the backing of the money honchos in the Washington Party who ran the G.O.P. into the ground. Screw the little marmot.
In a fair contest for the Republican nomination, Jay Ramras would kick Mitt Romney's ass.
Mitt would make a pretty good, not great, OMB director or Secretary of Commerce in the Palin administration.
It just wouldn't be close in any state between Mitt & Sarah.
So Mitt runs when he campaigns and campaigns when he runs, or something.
Did NOT expect him to turn to me at the end and and say suddenly "I'm Mitt Romney and I approve this message." He caught me off guard, that Romney did. Startled, I let out a small cry.
Oh, and Mr. Wednesday Night, I bow to you sir.
For the longest time I’d get upset when McCain or Romney or Huckabee or other supposed leaders and pundits would discuss the future leadership in the party and not even mention Governor Palin’s name. Now I just view it with a little humor. I think it’s finally become obvious to everyone else, if not to themselves, just how foolish they’re making themselves look. Despite their (I assume self-serving) hope that the Guv would just fade away from everyone’s memory, here we are 6 months past the election and, has anyone else noticed , there doesn’t seem to be a day go by that Sarah Palin doesn’t get some mention on a news or entertainment TV show, radio, magazine or newspaper that gets even further spread around the country through the internet. America still has a fascination with Sarah Palin and it’s just not going away. Whether it’s just a short blurb or more, even-handed or slanted negatively, there is constantly a reminder of the governor out there in front of everyone and …unless you you’re a PDS nut case… looking and sounding good and relaying the image of someone performing the duties of the chief executive of a huge and fascinating state.
That question to Cantor and Romney was someone finally just stating the obvious. Hey you guys, you’ve been speaking all your fine words about your fellow club members but don’t you think it might be worth mentioning that 800 pound gorilla sitting there over on the couch taking up half the room that you’re pretending isn’t there. Politically speaking Governor Palin is now without question that 800 pound gorilla.
Riehl has a great post up about the GOP confab (or as I call it, the 'RePub Crawl')
I liked this part. Liked it a bunch.
"If Eric Cantor thinks an inclusive Republican Party means not opposing Gun Control he needs to sit down and shut up. Ironic that only 75 people showed up in Virginia for the new GOP listening Tour. Yawn. There were hundreds of thousands in the streets over the last few weeks. One wonders if this bunch is listening to them?"
http://www.riehlworldview.com/carnivorous_conservative/2009/05/gop-listening-tour-just-say-no.html
Napsalot-
Ignoring Palin may be just politics for Mitt,Huckabee,McCain,Newt etc.....
But not standing up for her against all the smears and slurs shows them to be self-serving cowards...and further evidence why the GOP is busted.
"If you attack one of us,you attack ALL of us" should be the response to every MSM and Dem attack...
(I can dream.can't I...?)
It shouldn't be hard for these geniuses.
Treat Sarah with respect and have a chance to beat her heads up, or be petty and disrespectful and be dismissed out of hand by the base.
Why on earth would conservatives listen to the gang that couldn't shoot straight, and Bobby J and Cantor should know better than to hang around with retreads like Romney and the Bush clan...
This story sort of reminds me of Rush's "non-dinner" with Obama back in January. He was the story and he wasn't even there, same as Sarah.
I think you guys are looking too much into it. He's saying a lot of the people are celebrities, actors, etc...The glitz and glammer type.
I didn't see it as a knock on Palin.
I am no fan of Mitt Romney. Can't stand him.
But honestly, when my wife and I both read that article, we saw Mitt Romney's words as a criticism of Time magazine's selection process.
Again, we're big fans of Sarah, and we can't stand Mitt.
But this sounds like Mitt laughing off Time magazine's esteemed lists rather than any kind of pot shot at Sarah.
This is being blown out of proportion. Let's not alienate more conservatives, rather let's be more willing to let petty arguments fall to the wayside. Is this really where we need to be exerting energy? I think it's a throw-away comment not ment to be malicious.
