David Letterman is a Sexist Pervert; UPDATE: Gov. Palin Responds; Treacher Smackdown

While counting down "The Top Ten Highlights Of Sarah Palin's Trip To New York" on the Late Show, David Letterman thought it would be funny to use crude and sexist terms to describe an accomplished governor. According to Letterman, the number two highlight of Governor Palin's trip was this:

2. Bought makeup from Bloomingdale's to update her "slutty flight attendant" look

I won't hold my breath waiting for the feminists and women's groups to express outrage over this despicably sexist "joke". As we've learned from the election last year, the rules are different for a pro-life, pro-Second Amendment conservative woman. Letterman continues to reveal himself as a pervert when he reduces a governor, a mother, and a wife to an object that he can leer at for his own pleasure.

Palin brought her 14-year-old daughter Willow to the Yankees game with her.

That’s right: A state governor went to a baseball game with her underage daughter, and a national talk show host made a joke about the girl being sexually assaulted by one of the players.

I realize I’m just an inbred backwoods moron who can’t abide by any criticism of Sarah Palin whatsoever, but is this really the precedent we want to set for our politicians and their families?

When is sexism acceptable? The answer should be never. Yet for many feminists in our country, only certain types of women have been worth defending. When a conservative woman is the target of an attack, many so-called feminists stay silent. This “selective sexism”, or speaking out against sexism on a case by case basis, does not advance our national dialogue on women’s issues. Rather, selective sexism allows a dangerous level of permissible sexism to live and breed in our country. The only way for the women of this country to truly move forward is to unite and speak out against all forms of sexism regardless of party or the source of the attack.

Or when Governor Sarah Palin’s 14 year-old daughter is the subject of a degrading and humiliating joke by David Letterman, how can we let this be part of our culture? How would any one of us feel if this comment were directed at our daughter? And if Governor Palin were Governor “Sam” Palin, would Letterman dare to make that joke?

UPDATE III by RAM: Letterman decided to double down on creepiness and sexism last night by making another sick joke about Palin's 14-year-old daughter. Read about it and read the Palins' statement about it here.

UPDATE IV by RAM: Some dude named Scott Martin from Examiner.com (ever heard of him? Yeah, me neither) writes a snark about how “humorless” we are at C4P. Here’s the reply I left on his article:

We actually have a great sense of humor at Conservatives4Palin. We just don't think jokes about 14-year-old girls getting sexually assaulted are funny. Maybe you do. That says more about you than about us. But it's more likely that you didn't even know about Letterman's joke about Palin's young daughter (at least I hope you didn't). If that's the case, then you didn't research the situation properly before writing about it -- otherwise you would have known that it was the reference to Palin's 14-year-old daughter that really caused the outrage.

By the way, you might try reading our website before making blanket statements about us. I don't make blanket statements about you -- like, say, you're an overpaid nancyboy who writes derivative drivel and knows jack about conservatism and isn't even witty or amusing. It would be premature and unfair of me to make such statements -- even though my personal biases have led me to conclude that most local newspaper columnists are second or third rate Maureen Dowd wannabes. You might prove the exception to the rule. And my website might prove the exception to your "rule" about sites with a "4" in the title being dry and boring and self-righteously humorless.

UPDATE V by RAM: I got a nice conciliatory email from Scott Martin. He blogs at The Patriot Room regularly. I was correct. He didn't know about the Willow joke. His column was in response to the Top Ten List.

In truth, it was the suggestion that we're humorless that hurt the most. We're damn funny, damn it!

No hard feelings. Really, I don't like it when conservatives smack each other around. It ain't right.
