Dennis Zaki's Melting Trig Truth 'Iceberg'

Dennis Zaki is an Alaskan freelance journalist who operates the website Alaska Report, and a charter member of the coalition of liberal Alaskan bloggers who have worked hard to undermine Governor Palin since her VP nomination.

In late April, Zaki began running a teaser headline on his front page which stated:

Rumor Central: Whopper story heading towards the S.S. Palin

An iceberg is heading toward the Palins. Can it be stopped? I don't think so. Will it sink the ship, all signs say yes. Stay tuned...

Later, Zaki changed the teaser headline to the following, which is still running on his front page:

Rumor Central: Big story still heading towards the S.S. Palin

A deal-breaker is heading toward the Palins. Can it be stopped? I don't think so. Will it topple the house of cards, all signs say yes. Stay tuned...

In a post back on May 1st, we linked Zaki's teaser to this post by the blogger Gryphen at Immoral Minority, which used the same "iceberg" terminology in reference to some supposedly devastating information about the Governor, along with this quote:

P.S. I have shared some of the more sensitive information with my fellow bloggers so do not worry that I am in any danger or that this information will not be made public at some point, it will. That is what makes us such a formidable community of bloggers.

The above post, dated April 28th, was immediately followed by Zaki's "iceberg" teaser - there's really no doubt that's what he's referring to. Sometime after we pointed the connection, Zaki reworded his teaser to replace the "iceberg" terminology with "deal breaker," but left-wing bloggers and commenters still normally refer to this supposed silver bullet as "the iceberg."

Zaki's not the only one to continue to refer to this supposed information - see, for instance, this post at The Mudflats from May 23rd:

So now even the NY Times is talking about “the bombshell.” And we still wait. And we drum our fingers, and eat popcorn, and make wild hand gestures while pleading “Come ON!” to our computer screens. It hasn’t been revealed how much Sarah Palin is making on her book deal, but something tells me her fluff piece called “I Am Alaska” or whatever it’s real name will be, is not going to be nearly as interesting as Levi’s book. What I’m wondering is why doesn’t Levi drop the bomb, and THEN get the book deal?

So exactly what is this iceberg, or bombshell, or deal breaker, or whatever you want to call it? Gryphen was coy at the beginning, saying only that it was related to Levi Johnston. But he gradually spun out more and more tidbits, creating a PayPal account to harvest cash from the deranged people who frequent his site, saying that he needed money to buy drinks for his "sources." And the tidbits he gave were all invariably Trig Truth-related.

Finally, on June 2nd, Gryphen stopped making hints and emerged proudly into full-frontal Trig Trutherism:

But just where did Trig Palin come from? As of today, as of this minute, and after over a month of searching I cannot tell you. I simply do not know for certain.

I do know however where he did not come from. He did not issue forth from Sarah Palin. He may have been conceived inside her house (The jury is still out on that one), but he was not conceived in her uterus. On that one fact I have absolutely no doubt.

So now that Gryphen has revealed his entire investigation was only able to turn up warmed-over Trig Truther allegations, why is Dennis Zaki still running his teaser? Is he a Truther, too?

To be fair, I honestly don't know. I have corresponded with many of the bloggers in Alaska, because I want to understand their perspective and the political environment in their state. Most of them do not believe in Trig Truth, and find the whole concept laughable. But neither do most of them speak up against it, following the same tactic as President Obama - who made a pro forma statement that the Palin family was off limits, then stood back and said nothing while his minions went ahead and attacked the Palin family anyway.

If Dennis Zaki is not in fact a Trig Truther, he should step up and denounce these sorts of attacks on the Palin family, and apologize to his readers for jerking them around with his "iceberg" nonsense. Dennis Zaki apparently has ambitions toward respectability, stating on his blog that he has done work for CNN. How would CNN feel about one of their stringers promoting nonsense like Trig Truth?

UPDATE: Speaking of Dennis Zaki, RAM pointed out earlier several problems with Zaki's claims about receiving permission to record Governor Palin's introduction of Michael Reagan in Anchorage.
