Bumped: Gov. Palin in Auburn, Seneca Falls NY; UPDATED: Governor Palin Takes NY State by Storm

Before taking part in Founder's Day celebrations in Auburn, Governor Palin and her family took the time to appreciate the history and culture of the area yesterday. Along with Todd, Willow, her sister Heather Bruce, and nephew Karcher, Governor Palin visited a number of historically significant sites, as well as mingled with the citizens of Central New York.

After a morning run, she started her day with breakfast at Bistro One, where she was able to interact with a number of supporters. Auburnpub.com reports:

Marc Schulz, who owns Bistro One with his wife, Dawn, said Auburn city officials contacted him approximately 24 hours before the breakfast to see if they could host it.

Schulz said he was flattered not only to have such a high-profile guest, but also that local officials suggested his business.

“You're honored any time city officials think of you,” he said. “And to host someone as high-profile as (Palin), that alone is what makes the decision easy.”

One of about 40 in attendance at the breakfast was state Assemblyman Gary Finch. Finch said Palin gave a nonpolitical talk, and she expressed gratitude to the local community for inviting her.

Finch said that Palin, who brought her husband, Todd, daughter, Willow, her sister and nephew along, made sure to speak individually with each person at the event.

“She certainly conveyed to everyone that she is very glad to be here,” said Finch, who will also participate in Saturday's festivities.

“She was very real, very genuine,” Finch said.

After breakfast, Governor Palin stopped by the Harriet Tubman Home for a tour. Dave Tobin at The Post-Standard via Syracuse.com reports:

At 10:15 a.m., a black SUV took her to the Tubman House for an unannounced tour away from the media pool. Palin's family was shown through Tubman's Home for the Aged, and site manager Paul Carter pointed out a print of a guardian angel leading a child. Carter said it reminded him that Tubman was "the guardian angel of us all."

"That's beautiful," Palin said. "That says it all."

In the Tubman visitor center, after hearing about Tubman's resilience as she fought slavery, Palin called over her nephew Karcher, who is autistic, and said, "This is something for you, anytime you go through something tough. Keep going."

Politico added:

“This is so good for our country,” she told the president of the foundation that manages the house, Karen Hill. She admired a 1960s-vintage painting of an angel hovering behind a young African-American boy.

“She knew something had to be taken care of and she stepped up and she did it,” Palin said of Tubman after leaving the house.

Next, Governor Palin visited the Women's Rights National Historic Park in Seneca Falls, which "commemorates women's struggle for equal rights, and the First Women's Rights Convention, held at the Wesleyan Chapel in Seneca Falls, NY on July 19 and 20, 1848."

The Politico story noted:

Governor Sarah Palin paused Friday afternoon in front of a monument bearing the Declaration of Sentiments, an early feminist touchstone.

“We anticipate no small amount of ridicule,” she read, and remarked: “Some things never change.”

Syracuse.com reports:

At 11:17 a.m., Palin was led through the National Women's Rights Historic Park museum by Tina Orcutt, the park's superintendent. Orcutt described the obstacles and resistance Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony met in their struggle for women's rights.

"That's why I'm glad Willow's here," Palin said. "Getting to see those who have paved the way to allow me and others standing on their shoulders. I have such appreciation for their efforts."

Then Governor Palin took a short walk over to the National Women's Hall of Fame, which is also in Seneca Falls and "is the nation's oldest membership organization dedicated to honoring and celebrating the achievements of distinguished American women." From Syracuse.com:

Shortly before noon, Palin's party was led to the National Women's Hall of Fame by Executive Director Christine Moulton. Moulton pointed out a number of inductees (including Ruth Colvin, founder of Literacy Volunteers in Syracuse) who had made great contributions to society after raising a family.

"That's very hopeful for a lot of young moms today, who have to put things on hold," said Palin, whose 18-year-old daughter, Bristol, is raising a child.

At the Hall of Fame, Palin -- wearing a Blue Star Mom pin and bracelet for her son Track serving in Iraq, and showing red toenails in open shoes -- posed for pictures.

Moulton gave Palin flowers. Nozzolio gave Palin a DVD of Ken Burns' series on Anthony and Stanton ("Not for Ourselves Alone"). Palin congratulated Seneca Falls Mayor Smith for being "a good mommy mayor" and "setting an example for young women who want to affect positive change."

At one point, Palin said she shared with Susan B. Anthony a desire for the protection of women. "For me, that includes our youngest sisters, girls in the womb," she said.

Politico recorded some of Governor Palin's reflections:

“I think the more things change, the more they stay the same in some arenas,” she told POLITICO of her own experience as a woman in public life, though she hastened to add that on the presidential campaign, “I don’t know if I was treated any differently.”

It was an honor, she said, “getting to be here and to see those who have paved the way to allow me and other women standing on their shoulders to progress . I have so much appreciation for all of their efforts, and their success.”

For lunch she went to Seneca Falls Downtown Deli.

Later in the afternoon, Governor Palin dropped by a local beauty school to get her hair done. CNYcentral.com has the story:

Peter Brooks got an unexpected visitor to his Auburn beauty school Friday morning, one who came all the way from Alaska.

Governor Sarah Palin dropped by the J. Peter Brooks School of Beauty on Franklin Street Friday afternoon to get her hair done.

[...]

"She was amazing with our kids she wanted to know everything about them. It was fun. Real fun," say Brooks.

As for her hairdo, Brooks says the former vice-presidential candidate couldn't have been any easier. "She just said have fun with it. Pin it up. I don't want it to look like I had my hair done," he says.

The reactions from the citizens of Central New York to meeting Governor Palin are what we've come to expect:

"Oh my god," Kelley Cosentino said. "This is such an honor."

"Thank you for being who you are," said Martha Dygert, another Seneca Falls resident.

"She is basically as close to our class as anyone in politics," Loperfido said. "She didn't have the wealth. I think she's more in tune with where we're at."

As Palin talked to reporters on Seneca Falls’ main street, Norma Grant, 71, emerged from a beauty parlor with a simple message: “Run, please run.”

“Thank you - you are encouraging,” Palin replied.

Today, the city of Auburn is buzzing with excitement as they celebrate Alaska's 50th anniversary of statehood. Syracuse.com reports:

Adams and his daughter, Erin, got up at 5:30 a.m. to be in Auburn this morning. By 9 a.m., they were seated in folding chairs and talking with other Palin fans. John Adams likes Palin's politics.

"She makes me think of Ronald Reagan," John Adams said.

"For the first time since Reagan, I've found a candidate that ... sounds like Reagan and that has some Reaganesque qualities," said Adams, 56. "She's not the speaker Reagan was, but she believes the same things Reagan believed and talk that way, and that inspires me."

Paulette Simpson also has a good guest editorial in the ADN, discussing the gala taking place at the Seward House Museum:

While I suspect there won't be many Alaskans at the gala today, as a member of the Seward House Circle of Friends, I received an invitation. Appropriately, Gov. Sarah Palin will be the guest of honor. The museum director reports that since the governor's attendance has been confirmed, the phones have rung off the hook.

UPDATE: Video of Governor Palin in the parade:

UPDATE II: (h/t Greg) Syracuse.com has more from the parade:

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is in town today to participate in Auburn's first Founder's Day, but she could not help looking back at the 2008 presidential campaign and taking a good-natured jab at actress Tina Fey's "Saturday Night Live" skit.

That skit poked fun at Palin's foreign relations experience with the line: "I can see Russia from my house."

During speeches outside Memorial City Hall, 123rd District Assemblymen Gary Finch, R-Springport, presented Palin with a painting depicting Auburnian William H. Seward and others signing documents for Russia to sell Alaska to the United States. Seward appears to be looking at a globe showing Alaska, Palin said.

"They're looking at a globe, and they're pointing to Alaska in this painting, and I'll betcha anything what Seward was pointing out was: 'Lookie there. You can see Russia from Alaska,'" she said.

Earlier, Palin took to the podium amid chants of "Sa-RAH ... Sa-RAH .. Sa-RAH," and "Run Sarah Run."

She touted Auburn and the Finger Lakes as one of the most beautiful areas she has seen, and noted the region was home to many of the nation's most famous figures, like Seward, Harriet Tubman and women's right's leaders Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton.

"There must be something in the water here," Palin said. "I told (daughter) Willow before we leave, drink it up."

The crowd greeted Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin with cheers and applause as she hoped out of her SUV and climbed in the back of a 1959 Cadlilac to start the Founder's Day parade today in Auburn.

Palin was the star attraction, and she didn't disappoint, waving to the crowd and posing for photos with two Auburn firefighters just before the parade began.

"She's really a lot cuter than on TV," said Anita Petrosino of Auburn

Petrosino was there to see her two granddaughters march in the parade.

The sidewalks were jammed nearly shoulder-to-shoulder in many places along Genesee Street as on-lookers jockeyed to get a glimpse of Palin, her husband, Todd, and daughter, Willow. At one point, the trio got out of the car to walk along the parade route.

Palin waved and smiled, connecting with the crowd and acknowledging their cheers.

"See you in four years," Art Carnicelli shouted, catching Palin's attention as her car passed by. She smiled, then saw Carnicelli had a Palin T-shirt on and shouted back: "I like your T-shirt."

Farther down the parade route, Bill Lee of Auburn shouted, "Glad you made it," to which Palin replied, "Thank you. We love it here."

UPDATE III: The Associated Press reports on what Governor Palin said at the private fundraiser for the Seward House Museum:

More than 20,000 people turned out to see Palin lead a parade through downtown Auburn and sign a proclamation honoring Seward, the 19th-century Secretary of State who negotiated the $7.2 million deal with Russia for Alaska, which is celebrating its 50th year of statehood.

Later, Palin spoke to several hundred people at a private fundraiser for the Seward House Museum, where she criticized the Obama administration for its policies on national security and energy and its handling of the economic crisis.

Governor Palin tweeted about the experience:

Amazing, gracious, hospitable city of Auburn spent the day honoring AK & our connections, via former Sec. Seward. Central NY is beautiful!

UPDATE IV: Syracuse.com provided video of Governor Palin taking part in the parade and speaking to the crowd in front of Auburn City Hall:

I can see Moore's next rant: Palin Scandalizes NY by wearing short skirt and open toe shoes with red toenails.

Greg, Shannyn is too late. Syracuse.com, has already commented on the open-toed shoes with the red toenails. LOL.

I hope that many African-Americans and women will take note of Gov. Palin's visits to the Harriet Tubman Home and to the National Women's Hall of Fame.

Is anyone on tap for sending vid of Gov. Palin in the parade to us?

Nancy June 6, 2009 1:43 PM

My heart is bursting with pride and joy for this woman! Looking at those pictures, seeing people's faces, reading their reactions, it just makes me want to shout, yes!

We will look back at this time as an awakening of the American people to who she really is. I don't think this is calculated, she's just doing things that are near to her heart. This is not hard for her, this is her. People 40 years from now will long for Sarah Palin.

Hopefully they won't be saying, they broke the mold with President Palin.

Thanks, Daniel, for the interesting account and for the splendid photographs. She flashes fire, doesn't she, even in photos!!!

Sarah and Victory in 2012!!

SarahWeddington June 6, 2009 2:05 PM

what is this obsession with her feet?

The Ben Smith guy at Politico and now this other article for the Post-Standard, also written by a guy not coincidentally, both go out of their way to point out, for no apparent or logical reason, that she's wearing open shoes with red toenails.

There's relaly no reason for it. It adds nothing to the story. Doesn't give any useful information. I don't recall any article ever saying what kind of shoes any guy was wearing. For that matter I don't recall any article ever saying what kind of shoes Hillary was wearing.

Yet...with her, and this was from the beginning when they mentioned her red monkey pumps or whatever they were, there's been this fetishistic attitude towards her.

Now, I don't know if these writers have been spending too much time with Dick Morris, or maybe they get these sick and twisted fantasies in their heads when they're in her presence, but it's getting a little tiresome.

On the other hand, as our President is so fond of saying, she does appear to be having a great time, it's fantastic weather out, the people seem to be enjoying themselves, she's seeing some tremendous historical sites, doing things for a good cause, so the sohes/toes issue isn't of the biggest import.

Still, I couldn't help but notice it.

The old guy is a "Special Agent" of some sort. I don't know his background, but for all we know he was a Navy Seal or Recon Marine or USAF ParaRescue guy. I'm just sayin' he might be a total badass. I've known some very tough guys who look very unassuming.

Carmelo Junior June 6, 2009 3:32 PM

I really think this new looks is a Sarah's move to look more "mainstream" and crossover religious afiliations.
Her "pentecostal looks" in hair style and skirts that she have been wearing for the last 3 years' official environment is being replaced by a more "normal next door girl's looks".

I don't know about you guys, but even this is a signal that she wants to attract mainstream America, not just the evangelical-pentecostal.

This sure signals an inroute that will take down any impressions that she is an evangelical pentecostal "religious zealot".

Note that, in contract with Hillary who kept wearing those pants and unattractive blazers and low heels shoes, Sarah is showing her sexiness and feminity for the world to see.

C4Pers pay attention to these details and signls. It's coming!

Good job!

Brian72 June 6, 2009 3:35 PM

I could not help but notice, being something of a gearhead, that the parade car Sarah was riding in is about as politically incorrect as you can get these days.

That's a '59 or'60 Cadillac Eldorado convertible.
Conspicuous consumption at it's peak.
That 2-door ragtop is longer, wider, and heavier than my '91 full sized GMC pickup!
There is probably a 502 cu. in. big block V-8 under the hood, and it gets around 10-12 mpg.

It is a beautiful piece of classic Detroit iron, and All-American Sarah looks great in it!

RINO-hunter June 6, 2009 3:43 PM

AKReport,

I just saw that. I bet it will be well over 30,000 within a week.

LoveThatGirl June 6, 2009 3:45 PM

God bless Sarah and her precious family.

I like the way some folks say Palin Politics, reminds me of Reaganomics.

Well with all the reports about red toenails, now we will see more women with RED toenails. I think it's great, this will distinguish us, as to who we stand for.

Sarah is a blessing to our Country.
America NEEDS Sarah Palin.

R. A. Mansour June 6, 2009 3:47 PM

Carmelo,

What on earth are you talking about? She has always dressed the same.

ousoonerfan15 June 6, 2009 3:47 PM

did you hear she drew thousands to attend her short speech at the city hall. That is just insane!! She will be a FORCE in 2012

R. A. Mansour June 6, 2009 3:51 PM

What in the hell is "pentecostal" about the way she dresses?

Is wearing a black suit and having your hair in a twist "pentecostal"? Someone needs to tell my Jewish, Catholic, Muslim, and agnostic friends this. I've seen them all in similar garb.

LindaW June 6, 2009 3:52 PM

Great pics of her on Yahoo News for today's parade! Love her outfit. Very presidential like how she dressed during the campaign. Except, I think she should wear closed toe shoes or those peeking toe shoes.

Doug (formerly DB) June 6, 2009 4:01 PM

Why are so many people so interested in what she wears? She looks to me like a normal person wearing normal clothing for a beautiful early summer day in upstate New York.

The more I see and here of this event, the more I wish I hd taken the time to drive the 4 and 1/2 hours up I-90 to see her.

bestwins June 6, 2009 4:02 PM

It doesn't matter where she goes. There is always a buzz about. There's a buzz when her trips are announced, there's a buzz in anticipation of the event, there is a buzz when she arrives, the media buzzes, the people show up and buzz about how much they admire, respect, and adore her, and the blogs buzz. I love every minute of this. A positive day for Sarah makes it a great day for me.
I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.
By the way, Sarah should wear whatever she wants to wear.

AP says more than 20,000 people showed up to see Palin!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090606/ap_on_re_us/us_palin_visit_ny_1

howIroll June 6, 2009 4:21 PM

AP is reporting that "more than 20,000 people turned out to see Palin lead a parade..." :)

Nancy June 6, 2009 4:23 PM

Right now, all the PDSers, led by Shannyn Moore, have a magnifying glass out and are poring over the pictures of Governor Palin walking in the parade. I can just hear their conversation.

"Ya know what? I can see her knees! She's given up on the conservative Christian base, and now she's going for the trashy Hollywood actresses! Ha,Ha,Ha, that's funny, fellow derangement sufferer!"

"Guys, if you look real close, look, see, I, I, thiiink, guys, she has some stubble on her legs!"

"No!"

"Yes! Look right there! This is big! Maybe, she is going for the grungy types, ya know, by not shaving her legs."

"Well, then, that means she is trying to be like us, get our votes. Wow, she is cool."

Shannyn Moore gives that PDSer a dirty look, but disregards that slip of the tongue.

"No, forget it, it was just a shadow."

"Forget about her legs, as disgusting as that may be that she is actually showing her knees and her legs. Look if you will at exhibit A! She has on open toed shoes! AAAAAANNNNNNDDDDD, polish on her toenails. I need a drink!"
She is so far off what a normal politician is supposed to wear!"

"Why can't she just wear the normal unisex suit that every other politician wears. This is over the top."
One poor guy that got dragged into the meeting, lured by the promise of arugula and koolaid, continues to gaze at Governor Palin with the magnifying glass. He mutters, "I think she looks pretty good."

A cup of blue oasis is poured on his head and a no polish on the toenails, foot in the rear as he's thrown out.

Carmelo Junior June 6, 2009 4:35 PM

RAM

Well, in fact I just see Sarah's appearance in her church that have circulated the Net. Her official photos and clothes from 3 years ago. In all she is very "conservative"!

I haven't have the pleasure of meeting her or having knowledge of her clothes from more than 2 years and beyond, but definitely there is a contract between the Sarah that American met on August 29, 2008 and the Sarah we are seeing now. This change was widely gossiped in the media!

It is well known that Pentecostal women dress different from the mainstream Catholic, Protestant women. But again, Sarah has said she does not considers herself Pentecostal.

In Puerto Rico the Pentecostal movement, the charismatic evelgelism is huge! I can relate to what they wear and belive.

But anyway, high heels, long hair or short hair, conservative or mainstream, she looks gorgeous!

section9 June 6, 2009 4:57 PM

Whoa. Well, aside from the sweeping generalizations about what Pentecostal women wear, allow me to take this thread in another direction.

Wouldn't it be interesting if Palin showed up to the RNCC dinner with, say, six hours advance notice just to suck the Oxygen out of the room? Or to meet and greet after Newt's speech? Might be a smart thing to do.

R. A. Mansour June 6, 2009 4:58 PM

hrh June 6, 2009 5:13 PM

She's carrying both the American flag and the Alaskan flag. Love it. :)

The AP write-up says she went after the Obama admin at the Seward speech. I want to see that 'cause I bet she said about 3 sentences about Obama in the middle of her speech, but that's all the Obamamania media focus on - just like during the campaign. Sigh.

She is sooooo right to go around the State-Run Media.

Doug (formerly DB) June 6, 2009 5:16 PM

hrh,
The state run media can do all they want tp distort her appearance in Auburn, but they won't be able to easily ignore the cheering crowds that will show up everywhere she goes this week. I agree it is great she's ignoring them and appealing to the local media which is far more fair.

TommyReport June 6, 2009 5:21 PM

HRH,

Yeah, I noticed that as well. Have to say that I'm surprised if that's what happened. My guess is that she didn't mention Obama by name but the AP drew its own inference. I'm sure someone will let us know what it is that she said.

techno June 6, 2009 5:25 PM

It struck me funny yesterday, but when Obama was at Buchenwald yesterday he was recounting about what the Americans found there and then referred to General Eisenhower and how he ordered regular troops and townspeople from the surrounding area to visit the camp to be witnesses of what they found. He never referred to Eisenhower's decision at D-Day or that Eisenhower later became POTUS. I guess I am being petty, but I think Ike doeesn't get the respect that he deserves and neither does MacArthur or Patton.

narciso June 6, 2009 5:25 PM

In every picture, before she was picked, she was always more comfortable in jeans and a windbreaker. The green jacket on my avatar, without the glasses is possibly the most formal thing she wore. Or the pink dress with the corsage for the Governor's ball. Loved the Raider's image, there, Sinistar. You really have to notice to focus on the shoes, to
the exception of everything else. Can'tlet go of the template. Five years from now at the 70th anniversary of D-Day, we'll have a proper address, with the sincerity
and respect it deserves; Obama beach indeed!

Hal June 6, 2009 5:30 PM

Can't wait to get home and see the pics. Wow, 20,000 to see her in an off election year when she is not running for anything.

The rest of the GOP is toast in Iowa and 2012...

Beehive June 6, 2009 5:30 PM

I noticed on the Auburn newspaper site syracuse.com where all of the stories and pictures are coming from, they had an advertisement for SarahPac.

That is great news.

Greg June 6, 2009 5:36 PM

Does anyone really think that Gingrich, Pawlenty, Romney, Huckabee, Jindal or anyone else in the GOP can draw over 20,000 people to a non-political event? Every single one of them have to be green with envy, and doing their own mental calculations.

Just imagine how many would have shown up if this was an election campaign stop, 30, 40, 50,000 or more.

This is what 0bama and his crowd are really afraid of:

http://www.jeffhead.com/palin/palin-hiding.htm

Picture these crowds 2, 3, 4 and 5 times bigger. 0bama and his crowd knows it's coming their way in 2012, and that is why they are still on the attack, but they're not getting much bang for their buck.

A. Sir: The North Koreans are testing missile capabilities and nuclear weapons.

B. Mr. President: Governor Sarah Palin has attracted a crowd of 20,000 people to a parade in New York.

sarah palin rocks June 6, 2009 5:58 PM

If Sarah is interested in a 2012 then she has a head start.
She has been reintroducing herself to America ever since her Evansville, Indiana trip.

Her reelection in Alaska will be a piece of cake because the voters know her already. Her reelection will be a referendum on her performance as Governor. She should win if she keeps up all her good work.

Between now and 2012, she should travel the US and overseas as much as she can. If she can tie a trip in with Alaska business then she gets 2 birds with 1 stone. Keep up the Press Releases and give stemwinder Speeches. SarahPac needs to rake in the dough and get organized. By the time 2012 comes around she will be ready for Iowa.

Rusty June 6, 2009 6:03 PM

R.A. Mansour:

I don't thinh she will show up at the NRSC/NRCC dinner. I think she is going to Washington to see Fred Malik - and to meet with her Washington office staff.

Remember several weeks ago (Correspondents Dinner), she had to cancel the evening dinner Fred Malik had set up in his home for her and Sanford to meeet with big time Republican donors - because of the floods in Alaska ?

Since Malik and all the big Republican donnors are in Washington Monday night for the NRSC/NRCC dinner, I wouldn't be surprised if Malik has scheduled a late Monday afternnon gathering in his home with Sarah and those Republican donors she had to cancel on last time.

I really don't think she will go to the NRSC/NRCC dinner. It would be bad form to up stage Newt, who is filling in for her. She may need Newt's help in the future and there is no need to diminish his standing by showing up and taking all the attention away.

Also, given the way the NRSC is treating Rubio and Toomey - and other conservatives - she should stay far away from the NRSC at this time.

AP searches the crowd for one person who didn't vote for Gov. Palin to report on

"Local resident Chris Stone, with his wife and three children, said he didn't care for Palin's politics but didn't want to miss the chance to see her in person."

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090606/ap_on_re_us/us_palin_visit_ny

Uffda June 6, 2009 7:25 PM

Home run, girl.

Run, baby, run!

JeanA June 6, 2009 7:25 PM

AP also had to report

"The Alaska governor has been given until June 23 to reimburse the state for an estimated $10,000 in costs associated with trips taken by her children, under an agreement resolving an ethics complaint against her."

juju June 6, 2009 7:27 PM

Jean: You are so right, AP just had to find someone that didn't vote for Palin or agree with her politics. Have you ever heard of them doing that at a OB speech..nooooooo. Also, they had to comment about the protesters. OB has protesters at most of his gatherings too, but you only hear about those on other blogs
not from the AP. Guess they just can't help themselves.

hrh June 6, 2009 7:27 PM

AP = Anti-Palin

Brilliant strategy for the good gov to AVOID the State-Run Media.

Their meme is that yeah, she's a rock star, but she ain't qualified for national office, and they're stickin' to it on orders from the WH.

Debtstar June 6, 2009 7:35 PM

I think it just gives her more cred that an Obama voter shows up with his family to watch her.
Doesn't sound like she's "divisive"..

Lipstick June 6, 2009 7:38 PM

No worries.

When Sarah announces her intention to run for the nomination, she will suck the oxygen out of everyone else's campaign.
She has "it" and when she is running her campaign her way she will light up the scene like nothing we have seen.
I will go out on a limb here and say SHE will be hotter than Obama. She will be the one getting all the fawning over by regular people. The MSM will be out numbered and drowned out by the regular folks.
I hope she runs, she has an awesome opprotunity to be the first woman POTUS.
Good grief she was in NY for a small toen parade and LOOK, just LOOK what Palin can do!

Michel June 6, 2009 7:39 PM

Carmelo,

I grew up in a Pentacostal church, there was no certain attire that we wore. I myself wore 3 1/2 inch heels and skirts above my knees to church.

The gov has always dressed like the girl next door as most of us do up here. We are way more casual than the lower 48 in just about every way.

I know people from just about every religion and we all dress pretty much the same.

techno June 6, 2009 7:40 PM

alwaysfiredup June 6, 2009 7:47 PM

Oh AKReport, you must be loving this. Her Auburn speech is way better than the one she gave for Mike Reagan. She clearly loves to talk about Alaska. The little digs at the Obama admin were more subtle, and her argument against Washington spending was tighter. She needs to keep doing these because she gets better each time.

hrh June 6, 2009 7:49 PM

Yep, techno, Rush is da' man. He's right 99% of the time. ;)

section9 June 6, 2009 7:50 PM

You know, Rusty, you make a good point. If she has a private meeting set up with Malek and the Suits, it would be bad form to show up at the RNCC ball, unless it could be arranged for her to show up to listen to Newt's speech.

She'll need Newt in future. She'll also need everyone else, including Mittens, who will sulk in his tent until she gives him what he wants, which is the Veep slot. Of course, she really can't afford to do that, because Romney is the only man in the known universe who could lose a televised debate to Joe Biden on likeability issues alone.

Doug (formerly DB) June 6, 2009 7:58 PM

Carmelo,

I like a lot of what you say. But please stop with the religious stuff like calling Mittens "Mormon Romney". I absolutely don't like Mittens (as all who have read my numerous comments know). But it has NOTHING to do with his religion. I don't care what someone's religion (or lack of one) is. I oppose Romney for his flip flops and his continuous snarky attacks on Governor Palin. People, in my view, are free to have any religious beliefs they want, as long as it doesn't involve flying airplanes into buildings and/or strapping explosives onto one's body to murder innocent people. Anyway, as I said, please refrain from comments on people's religious beliefs. When you get into that, you lose credibility, which is unfortunate, since a lot of what you say is quite prescient.

OK, I'll get off my soapbox now..

juju June 6, 2009 8:04 PM

I am just wondering. The AP report said that SarahPac paid for her trip.
I don't care that they paid for her trip, but since this was an AK. public relation type trip, why in the world didn't AK. paid for the trip? Also, they said she was going to DC to talk to her staff there.

Doug (formerly DB) June 6, 2009 8:07 PM

JuJu,

I think she just wants to avoid more frivolous ethics charges. Smart move in my opinion.

CCRWM June 6, 2009 8:08 PM

You know the AP is dumb. The Obama worship will die off with the tanking of the economy. People will remember who took this guy from obscurity, made him a god and then refused to report honestly the policies that will cause so much harm. I wonder if Sarah will want to clean up that mess but if anyone can it would be her. God bless her and please remember to pray for her and her family everyday.

narciso June 6, 2009 8:17 PM

I grudgingly agree, sometimes people have to learn from hard knocks, the danger that Obama posed couldn't or wouldn't be
faced straight aways. Likewise, the NRSC, kept pressing on it's most valuable asset, jumped the gun
and ended up with Newt. This is not
a one off, they've been schewing up,(sarc) all year; as Glenn Reynolds would put it, "that's not a bug, that's a feature" From Tedisco to Specter and Crist, they forfeited her support. Maybe they can recoup their losses next year, or here's a thought, actually follow through with your principles
and people will contribute to you.

All in all, it was a great trip, a great contrast with eventshappening
across the ocean, which seemed to be a tribute to the leader, as opposed to an observance of the remarkable events and soldiers and sailors who gave it their all. She is very cognizant of the persons in whose footsteps she follows, from Susan B. Anthony, to the abolitionists, like Seward, the father of Alaska.

hrh June 6, 2009 8:37 PM

Never mind, I kinda' sorta' got the video to work, sound wasn't synched, and it wouldn't work full screen but no matter.

Yes, this was an even better speech than Wednesday night's. And I'm pleasantly surprised at the applause lines re: the stimulus, and government control, etc., she makes common sense and even blue NY is enthusiastic!

Did anyone catch when she said that she has exciting news about the gas pipeline project that she can't wait to get to share? Oh my, now I can't wait to hear it!

Lipstick June 6, 2009 8:53 PM

Is it just me or is Sarah seeming like she has been put in the corner like a child and not allowed to talk...now she is done with her "time out" (ie. the legislative session and seeing that the bogus ethics charges are going her way) and she is really just DYING to say all the things she has been holding back on? She seems to really be shooting with both guns at Obama.

I love it. Thing is, she probably really wants to let lose on Obama and all the socialistic stuff even more than she is.
I can't wait until she has 3 years of bad Obama decisions and poor governing to use in her campaign against Obama.

Good grief! The 'Cuda will be back in form with all kinds of ammo. It will not be pretty for Obama. Mr. Hope and Change will HAVE to run on his record, which will be a BAD one indeed. The 'Cuda will use this to her advantage. She is already setting the stage to go after him big time.

sarah palin rocks June 6, 2009 8:53 PM

Fox News just had a brief mention of Sarah's trip to Auburn. Julie Banderas said 2 politicians were mingling with voters this weekend. Specter and Palin were named.

Julie spent a lot more time talking about Specter in PA and showing footage of his crowd. She said a few sentences about Sarah and showed no footage. Julie did not even mention the size of the parade crowd. Fox gets a thumbs down for not being fair and balanced that time but I'm glad Fox at least mentioned Sarah.

The MSM is going to start foaming at the mouth and going insane when they realize that despite all the daily MSM attacks and propaganda, Sarah is still able to draw over 20,000 people on a sunny afternoon in "blue NY" as hrh calls it. This is months after the election when many have been calling Sarah "damaged goods."

sarah palin rocks June 6, 2009 9:05 PM

If you go to Drudge and some of the other top Conservative sites like Free Republic, you will read reports of how Obama has snubbed our European allies big time.

He blew off Germany by refusing to go to many events the German citizens wanted him to be at. He barely gave Angela Merkle the time of day. In France, he claims he is too busy and doesn't have the time to "picnic" and engage in frivolous activities. The Obamas turned down the Sarkozys' dinner invite.

I can't imagine Sarah ever behaving like that as POTUS. I believe Sarah will be very warm, charming and most gracious to our European allies even if she doesn't agree with them politically. If one of them ticks her off, then all bets are off.

The irony is that Europe helped Obama get elected by showering him with so much love and support when he visited during the 2008 election campaign. His speech in Germany to that overflowing crowd made him a super rock star. Now that Obama got what he wanted, it seems he just doesn't have time and can't be bothered for Europe now.

Broadmoor June 6, 2009 9:11 PM

Rush's terminology switch from the drive-by media to the "state-run media" is quite cutting... and dead-on accurate. I was traveling this past week, and subject to various motels' thin tv-station line-ups. Viewing CNN and a variety of other network news programs that I normally avoid, I was pretty aghast at the levels of Obama-worship. Yet in a way it was almost comical, in a fever-pitch like manner. Like the MSM has finally pushed their Obamalove to the limit, and are in deep danger of becoming parodies of themselves.

Anyway, 20000+ ! Wow! I can't help but think back to immediately after the election, and the obvious effort by the whole bloomin' establishment (media, Dems, and even Republican elites) to kick the good Guv to the curb, trying to render her nothing more than a Quayle-like trivia sidenote worthy of nothing beyond derision. I knew it wouldn't take. Governor Palin hit a deep chord in the culture, beyond the typical political game that Washington/MSM suits are accustomed to playing. She'll be keeping them in a perpetual tizzy, that's for sure. They're not dealing with one of their garden-variety politicians, but something more akin to a force of nature!

juju June 6, 2009 9:20 PM

I love the fact that she is doing "safe" things and yet draws a crowd.
The SRM didn't talk about her appearance for a week on end. There were no people "bussed" in like OB does.
The SRM is having a difficult time with this trip finding anything negative to say without looking like the complete fools everyone knows they are 90% of the time.

Sarah has proved to the other potential candidares she doesn't need the SRM as much as they do and I hope she ignores them as much as she can.

gamsbo June 6, 2009 9:33 PM

Obamabots: "Sir, ehem...everything is under control. Most of those 20,000 were children."

Obama: "Cool, children can't vote right?"

Obamabots: "No Sir. Our job smearing her is excellent. MSBNC already received the 10 milions you sent them. They are working to get Mitt Romney nominated. It will be easy to defeat this guy."

Obama: "He better be the nominee. That Sarah Palin will steal the Historic mantra from me and many minorities"

Obamabots: "Don't worry Sir. We have a good plan in place. Paying pollsters to have her way down in public support. That will work wonders. Sarah Palin might not even run. Don't worry Sir"

Obama: "Okay. I don't want to run against someone who draws 20,000 people in a Democrat stronghold"

Obamabots: "Don't worry Sir. The Republicans are following our plan to perfection. They will never nominate Sarah Palin"
