Grassroots Webathon Day 6: Hit The Blogs!

For longtime C4P fans, we present the above video by our very own Sinistar. For the present webathon, all of the videos you see at the top of our homepage were created by the brilliant Seth Adam Smith. Seth is the consummate pro, and satisfies any criteria that any professional political campaign might have. We love him.

However, we could not conduct any type of media campaign without including Sinistar - who produced our very first viral video, "Bore In The Woods", which got national attention and ended up featured on MSNBC and Fox News.

I remember when Sinistar first volunteered to tackle the "Bore in the Woods" project - a pushback we decided to do againt Mitt Romney when he violated the Eleventh Commandment. I wish you guys could have seen the first draft he turned in. It was David Lynch-esque and undoubtedly would have won first place at Cannes. I can't recall all the details now, but I distinctly recollect footage of a bear attack from a first-person point of view, and Mitt Romney donning rubber gloves at a fudge shop. Never let it be said that all creativity is possessed by people with a left-wing point of view!

Anyway, enjoy Sinistar's riff on "Reefer Madness"! (If Seth is our Spielberg, then Sinistar is our David Lynch.)

Heading into the last couple of days of the webathon...we've had some requests in comments to extend the webathon beyond the seven days we originally forecasted. I don't want to leave those people unanswered. We'll do an extensive wrap-up tomorrow, but I just wanted to say that a surge is a surge - we can't sustain it indefinitely. Hell, I got another e-mail today from John McCain's useless PAC and I just deleted it without reading it. If we try to extend this max effort beyond a week, we risk becoming background noise like the soliciations from any other politician.

That said, I ask you guys to push forward the effort through just this weekend. At least for this week, we've lost the window for the radio talkers and the cable news people, but we've still got the local media and the conservative blogs. Share our videos, that's what they're for. Get into blog comments and provide links to our webathon. I've been particularly inspired by our commenter RINO-hunter, who has been relentless in spreading the word at Ace of Spades HQ.

Let me be clear - what we have done up to this point is absolutely astonishing for a small-to-middling blog, promoting a legal defense fund for a Republican politician, of all things. We're all happy with what we've accomplished so far - let's get out there and finish this thing strong!

Great video!

OK, hurry and get that shirt on ConservaBid.com! $10, plus $5 flat shipping. Sale only runs through end of webathon.

The whole $10 will go to the AFT!

100% cotton, high quality, licensed pic of Gov. Palin (printed, not rubbery applique), sizes S-XL.

Come on! Help me sell out and fund the trust. You can buy this even if you've given to the AFT.

narciso June 20, 2009 9:28 AM

You know the one thing, I have learned from this experience is how
truly you see people who you thought were your allies, turn out to have 'feet of clay' I emailed Surber, (well he is part of a newspaper)Van der Leun, and Treacher, and they did nothing to help promote her. Actually Treacher
went further, and dissapointed me more, since he was so fervent in his support of her during the campaign, yet insists on her going
on Letterman, sometime in the future.

meerkat June 20, 2009 9:52 AM

narciso,

The primary reason the media and others won't get involved in this
is because they don't want to take the chance of getting hit with any potential legal backwash.

make sense ?

juju June 20, 2009 10:00 AM

I think that the national media think if they promote this Trust Fund promotion they will have to promote the same for other candidates and it is best just to not get involved in ventures like this. Too bad for us, but I can understand where they are coming from.

Bill in Baltimore June 20, 2009 10:04 AM

Karen,

is there a blow-up of the T-shirt, I want to see exactly what's on it.

meerkat June 20, 2009 10:07 AM

juju,

I agree with you.

This thing is a political and legal minefield. Any whiff of improprietary
actions could result in a very big
problem for Sarah.

narciso June 20, 2009 10:10 AM

I suppose so, meerkat, then again all that we've gained since Zenger has been for naught. Sullivan has turned out to be a license to print
libel. Craig Unger, who was proven to have lied in one of these cases
rising out of the "OctoberSurprise"
brouhaha, still went on to write three books, which were one type of libel or another . And yes, I'm reminded of "Mr. Smith goes to Washington" and that scene in particular

Bill in Baltimore June 20, 2009 10:12 AM

juju and meerkat,

so you are saying that independent broadcasters (like Rush, BOR, etc.) are going to be forced what they are to say ?

You are ceding ground to the enemy that belongs to us. Sorry, I don't agree.

Who exactly would "make" them promote legal trust funds for all candidates? And the amount of coverage have to be commensurate with - what ? one 2-minute segment per candidate? or based on the amount of debt ? ???

meerkat June 20, 2009 10:25 AM

narciso,

Apparently Sarah has decided all of that is fight not worth fighting and
I support that. Sarah needs to get out of this tabloid mode that they keep trying to drag her into. If she responds she will be the big loser.

Sarah handed Letterman his head and walked away and hasn't looked back.

She can't fight and win everyone of these battles.

Bill,

I'm not ceding ground to anybody and don't have a dog in this fight.

I am merely trying to point out that this is a complex issue. Sarah
has to walk a legal tightrope on this.

M. Minnesota June 20, 2009 10:33 AM

juju, others

I'm confused, why would media outlets be skittish regarding a legal defense fund when you have ABC in the White House?

Sarah Palin Web Brigade June 20, 2009 10:38 AM

There are two important things that happened with this Webathon. First, a significant amount of money was raised to help defray Governor Palin's legal debt. Second, this is the first time that Sarah supporters across the Internet have coordinated their efforts on behalf of Sarah. This is what many of us have been advocating for some time now and will be essential in helping get Sarah Palin elected in 2012. It would be interesting to find out just how many different websites participated in the current Webathon.

Bean Counter June 20, 2009 10:41 AM

I agree that it would be counterproductive to extend the webathon much longer than the original time frame. With the $150 ceiling and a starting from scratch grassroots effort, I believe the results have been nothing short of amazing.

The game begins anew in January, when we can all donate up to $150 again. That gives us 5 months to extend our collective reach, find more avenues to get the word out, and crank it up again.

This was just the first inning. The game is far from over.

Al B. June 20, 2009 10:42 AM

Minnesota --

Even ABC is not overtly promoting donations to Obama's campaign. I'm sure there are FCC rules about networks soliciting money for politicians.

I also know for a fact that there are laws in Alaska preventing the Governor from soliciting for her legal defense fund.

There really are all kinds of minefields involved.

Bean Counter June 20, 2009 10:44 AM

And Seth, buddy, you've outdone yourself with this video! Just bleeding genius is all it is.

Absolutely brilliant!

Amanda K June 20, 2009 10:44 AM

sjk="Palin Madness". O_o

wilsonpickett June 20, 2009 10:48 AM

Back to the video:

Seth, I love those newspaper headlines and the music from another movie era. They made me laugh. Once again, great job!

Bill in Baltimore June 20, 2009 11:01 AM

meerkat,

you said >>I'm not ceding ground to anybody and don't have a dog in this fight.

and >>I am merely trying to point out that this is a complex issue. Sarah
has to walk a legal tightrope on this.

I beg to differ. Sarah is not walking a tightrope, she is on solid ground, no ?
- $150 limit
- only from individuals
- etc.

"walking a tightrope" is the kind of inflammatory language that the MSM use, they love to make it look like she's about to hang herself.

You could perhaps say she is walking a tightrope by being a national figure, but again, she's on solid ground.

Doug (formerly DB) June 20, 2009 11:04 AM

sjk is a Trig Troofer. As soon as one of the editors sees sjk on this thread all his/her (its) comments will be deleted. Don't feed the troll.

We've raised in excess of 100k for Governor Palin's legal defense the first time we tried. That is quite an accomplishment for unorganized barbarians. I say we wait until the actual AFT numbers are released in July (I think) then plan another webathon some time after that. If still another one is needed after that, we'll have another. Whatever it takes!

meerkat June 20, 2009 11:23 AM

Bill, Sarah is on solid ground as long as she keeps it that way.

I'm only guessing but Sarah is a person of high integrity and has probably asked the media not to intervene
just to protect herself.

I don't really understand why you can't see that solicitations by the media to donate to the LDF can't become a problem for Sarah.

Don't you think if that happened it would unleash a barrage of ethics complaints?

Don't you think the anklebiters are looking for any excuse to unload ?

Thanks for the correction RAM!

Huskers-For-Palin June 20, 2009 12:25 PM

Can someone give me the link of the current YouTube video. I would love to post it elsewhere and email it to friends :)

This, by far, is the best ever (and most comical).

Was it from the movie "Reefer Madness" ???

Karen Allen June 20, 2009 12:27 PM

Hey Bill...

I thought you might would recognize it, sorry. Let's see, I don't really know where a pic is without searching the AP images.

If you look at my channel on YouTube, you can see that it's the green tinted icon for the vid A Million Voices for Sarah Palin. I am mikesgirl93 on YouTube.

It's a little bigger there...or you can watch the vid and see it bigger. :)

LGS June 20, 2009 12:34 PM

Loved the video Sinistar! I believe comical videos like these are a key element to turning Gov. Palin's image around. The erroneous "hick/dumb" view of Sarah was planted by the media. We need to use media like this to correct the record. Those that mock need to be mocked! :-)

Bean Counter June 20, 2009 12:36 PM

Sorry, Sinistar, brilliant video. You and Seth are quite a team.

By the way, David Lynch is one of my favorites. I recently got the entire Twin Peaks series on DVD. It was always on of my all time favorite TV series. Just bizarre as all get out.

manajordan June 20, 2009 12:59 PM

That was a great video Sinistar! I really liked the headlines at the beginning.
Virtual high fives out to all who made the webathon possible, and a success to boot. Keep it up for the rest of the weekend. I do think it would be fun to do another webathon at the beginning of next year when everybody can pay in again.

If anyone would like to post the video, do us a fav and link to the blog post because that means that people have to come here and see the webathon banner. That's the key to getting donations -- having people hit the website and see the banner.

Another GREAT, GREAT, video... thanks C4P

Agree with VO, officially extending the Webathon, beyond a week is not a good Idea, also agree, the accomplishment has been spectacular and stunning, considering the body of work.

The key word from above is, 'Officially'; Alaska Fund Trust, has become immeasurably more Health, Wealthy and Wise from the experience, as with , all C4P barbarians, new and old.

Don't know the facts and figures, but can't help believe, the legal fund gained, not only thousands of new contributors, but received 2nd and 3rd contributions from existing ones.... this all should leave us to optimistically believe, there is exponentially more to come, contributors and funds....

Let's remember the, 'One of Us', mantra we readily extend to Sarah, and it's implications as to all us ordinary barbarians who are choosing faithfully and sacrificially to give whatever we can afford.

Sarah's cause is a magnificent display of all that is great and good about America and its God inspired destiny.

Huskers-For-Palin June 20, 2009 2:03 PM

I've posted on Free Republic and listed the C4P link. :)

Hey Everyone,

Team Sarah member, Thomas, had the following idea:

I left a call into the Vandeburgh County Right to Life Executive Director.

(812) 474-3195 (office)
mevandyke@protectinglife.com

Be polite when you contact her. Explain about the C4P website webathon where people can click on the Alaska Fund Trust to donate and the instructions for e-mailing the info. to www.conservatives4palin.com.

Mention that Sarah helped them raise a ton of money, but that Sarah needs their help to face all these ethics complaints.

Sapwolf June 20, 2009 4:50 PM

In the future when fundraisin, try to line up the advertising ahead of time so the campaign is planned and executed in a more focused fashion.

Learn from this and make sure the website is simple and easy to follow along with the plugs on radio and TV already there.

We really do not know how much AFT has received. It may have already received the half-million.

But, the fact we stimulated more contributions with just a small site just goes to show that there is tremendous intrinsic grassroots support for Sarah waiting to be tapped like an oil field.

Neo June 20, 2009 5:42 PM

Where's Team Sarah on this webathon issue?

I know TS management is ALL about TS but one would think the members there would donate and report to the webathon email.

If I can advertise the effort on our TEA Party site I challenge TS to do likewise!!

Several TS members, including myself, are doing are best to promote this webathon. We have donated, posted, re-posted,sent out e-mails and let our friends and family know about this effort. There's only so much the members can do until the TS administration gets with the program. In the meantime we will continue to support C4P in their endeavors to help Gov. Palin.

juju June 20, 2009 8:26 PM

I think Rush and the conservative radio people shouldn't have any problem promoting the Fund. What I meant was Fox. They like to call themselves "Fair and Balanced" and they might feel if they did it for a conservative they would need to promote a liberal trust fund.

ABC, NBC, CBS...they THINK they are main stream and they wouldn't get involved at all.

Martha - - -

You are SO right about the Team Sarah 'administration'! They are all about themselves. They are simply using the 'Sarah' name to promote themselves, their ideologies and their web site - which promotes . . . see above - which promotes . . .! They have VERY little to do with promoting Sarah other than what it takes for them to continue appearing to do so by using here good name.

Join Team Sarah June 20, 2009 9:02 PM

Neo,

Yes, i'm very disappointed in the whole situation. Actually, disappointed, sad and hurt. As I stated in a blog earlier this week, i'm really going to have to re-consider all the promoting I do for them. It is all of no use if they are not doing their part to promote Sarah. I'm really bummed out about all this.

Neo June 20, 2009 9:38 PM

Martha, Thousands of others have been 'bummed out' about the antics of the TS admins. also and have either been banned or simply don't use their membership anymore. TS boasts of approx. 70,000 members but I doubt, very seriously, the number of actual 'active' members is even a small fraction of that number.

I, and MANY others who are HUGE Sarah supporters, have stated many times that if Sarah subscribes to even 10% of the crap that is presented at TS under the banner of her name, we would drop her in a micro-second.

I have been banned there no less than 6 times but I still have 2 active Ids. A week doesn't go by that I don't convince other TS members to leave and join other groups that actually support Sarah rather than the goofy ideology of the TS admins. I know others that do the same.

I will be praying for you.

Toki De La Vega June 21, 2009 9:10 AM

You can buy a lot of twinkies with $5,000...

Would you trust a known glutton with your welfare check?

Just admit it, Linda. You ran out of food stamps, didn't you? You're going to use this money to feed your insatiable appetite, aren't you?

How shameful. Taking advantage of the criminally insane this way.

The second deadly sin will be your undoing, Linda. Congestive heart failure is coming your way like a freight train, baby!

Doug (formerly DB) June 21, 2009 9:15 AM

Whatever Linda raises, I think we should alert the IRS to make sure she claims the money as income. It will truly be hilarious when she raises the money from her welfare friends, gets the redacted emails, and discovers there is nothing there. Those who contributed to her fishing expedition will be unhappy campers since they will have to go without their ripple for a while.

Bill in Baltimore June 21, 2009 9:23 AM

sjk,

could you be real for one day ? one minute?

So for one, do you really, honestly think I don't know what percentages are? Why do you even waste your time posting such inane comments?

Here we have just raised $109,000 on a whim, and your only reaction is to parrot "EPIC FAIL !" (multiple times, it's like you're gleeful about it).

Our 21% is only a piece of the pie, anyway, and despite what you think, everyone is thinking, wow, we raised a lot of money.

I really don't even know exactly what your fundraising goal was for, but wasn't it to help the person who wanted to who sent a FOIA request for Governor Palin's e-mails?

So if I get this right, Gov Palin has to raise money to defend herself and this other person has to raise money to pay the legal costs for causing a wasted effort by AK to produce the e-mails . . .

Wouldn't it have been better to not even request the e-mails, then all of this money could actually have been used for the greater good?

Besides, didn't some Tennessee hick already hack in the Gov's Yahoo e-mail account and what did he find? She's a decent, God-fearing woman who is a breath of fresh air the the USA, and so shouldn't this person have perhaps taken that as a precedent?

While the legal fund-raising is obviously the same, it's still apples and oranges to compare a couple of thousand dollars to 1/2 million.

Was this person only taking max $150 per individual and no corporate donations ? If so, good.

From past experiences, it's not the "truth" you seek but the headline, a zinger or chance to intimidate. Imagine a football game when the cameras are on and some bozo in the background waves to mom with a John 3:16 sign.

It's not so much different in politics.

Take for example the ethics complaints which have been more theater than judicial. A hockey stick launches an ethics complaint? Taking questions in the governor's office? Having her emails hacked? Is this the best you can do? If Sarah wasn't a VP pick, or considered the front runner for 2012, would you guys really be caring? It's amazing what oozes from a tree when the bark is squeezed.

What's even funnier is when the political circus packs up and leaves forcing the anklebiters back to their 7-eleven world. They often wonder out loud why the "big people" don't call them anymore. No more cudos, no more ego strokes or no more "spreadin around money".
