John Kerry Cracks a Lame Joke About Gov. Palin
Many of you have been following the strange sad tale of South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford’s Argentine adventure. For those of you who haven’t heard the story, Gov. Sanford disappeared to Argentina last week without telling anyone where he was and then announced in a press conference today that he was there to see his mistress. It was truly the most bizarre press conference I have ever witnessed (watch it here: part 1 and part 2).
What does this have to do with Gov. Palin? Nothing, unless you’re John Kerry and trying to crack a lame joke.
Rachelle Cohen of the Boston Herald reports:
U.S. Sen. John Kerry must have been channeling his inner Letterman yesterday.
The Bay State senator was telling a group of business and civic leaders in town at his invitation about the “bizarre’’ tale of how South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford had “disappeared for four days’’ and claimed to be hiking along the Appalachian Trail, but no one was really certain of his whereabouts.
“Too bad,’’ Kerry said, “if a governor had to go missing it couldn’t have been the governor of Alaska. You know, Sarah Palin.’’
The Democratic-centric crowd laughed.
Heh. That’s about as funny as Kerry’s “joke” about the troops in Iraq. Remember that one?
According to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the senator took the stage to roaring applause before regaling the crowd with one-liners, Bush barbs and tales of surfing at nearby Mission Beach.
He then said: "You know, education -- if you make the most of it, you study hard and you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well.
"If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."
The troops didn’t find it funny. The joke was on John...

UPDATE by RAM: This is Gov. Palin's statement on Gov. Sanford posted on her Facebook page:
"My heart and prayers are with Governor Sanford and especially his family during this difficult time." - Gov. Sarah Palin

Whew ! this has been another busy day . . . finally, it's quitting time at "work" . . .
Now it's an hour in the car with the Blackberry . . . works great but hard to post comments . . .
Then settle in to the computer for another busy evening fending off evil . . . last night up to 1:30
John Kerry is a joke. I don't think even Democrats take him all that seriously. From what I understand, there are very few Democrats who even like the guy. There's one in every party I guess. They have John Kerry, we have Mitt Romney.
John F'n Kerry, who by the way served in Vietnam, provides further confirmation of his personal duchebaggery.
Thank God we dodged that bullet in '04.
Lurch.
Hey John, if while overseas, Sarah accuses the troops of committing war crimes, we'll talk. Until then, will you please disappear again?
I just read what Kerry said again. And again. I honestly can't figure out what his joke is. Is there some other punchline that I'm unable to figure out? Is he afraid of Governor Palin and therefore wants her to disappear? Is it some kind of sophisticated joke that is over the head of an ordinary barbarian like myself? Can anyone help me out?
Kerry...sounds to me like Gov. Palin is on everyone's mind. Not too bad of a comment there will be a lot worse. I kind of like that he mentioned her. Sounds like fear to me.
Kerry has gone on many international trips, usually to shake hands with communist thugs that Reagan was fighting against for freedom of their people.
Ortega is one, off the top of my head.
He has a kiosk in the War Museum in HoChi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon.
They think he helped their cause, so they pay him honors there.
What a tool.
I think Kerry's brain is missing in action for years. Probably smoked too much dope. What he says is true, from the democrat point of view. They all wish Gov. Palin was missing. I'm know the dems would much rather run against Sanford than Gov. Palin.
What Kerry said to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in 1971 is unforgivable.
That is the same committee he has assumed the chairmanship of since Plugs was made VP.
Only in America.
"John Kerry Cracks a Lame Joke" - Has he ever told a funny joke?
The headline is funny because Kerry isn't.
But Kerry is in luck - Sarah did go missing for a few days.

"no additional details of Governor Palin’s travel plans be released at this time"
Sarah's timing is stupendous. She leaves the continent to go to ... that is a secret ... the day of the Sanford Press Conference - Kerry joke. How is that for skilled political talent! The "smart people" in DC couldn't pull that off in a million years.
Are Barbara Boxer, J.F. Kerry, and Gov. Sanford on Sarah's political team? They are like batting practice pitchers tossing balls that Sarah can hit out of the park.
Doug, I think he means Sarah should get lost, a statement that leftists think is funny. It can't really be explained. It isn't humor.
Kerry couldn't explain it if he tried.
Kerry didn't imagine that he is helping set Sarah up to appear with the troops, America's troops, Alaska's troops, her troops. thanking them for their service.
If anyone should "get lost", it's John F'n Kerry.
You know. Back in the 1972 a plane carrying the House Majority Leader Hale Boggs, and current Sen. Mark Begich's father Rep. Nick Begich along with Begich's aide Russell Brown & Pilot Don Jonz disappeared in a flight between Anchorage to Juneau never to be seen again. They never even found wreckage.
I don't think jokes about Alaskan Politicians disappearing get alot of laughs in Alaska. Or anywhere else. Sen. Kerry, you sir are a fool of unmeasurable proportions.
Try again John F. Kerry. You have FAILED again.
A,
You may be correct. My mind only understands bathroom or bedroom humor. At least that's what my wife says.
Now Douglas watch it...I resemble that comment. LMAO
*snorfle* John Kerry is such an ass clown.
"The Gov. of Alaska. You know, Sarah Palin?"
Really, Johnny? Has your crowd been living under a rock the last 10 months? Any mouth breather can tell you who the Gov. of AK is.
Halp me undrstand ur jok Jon.
PALIN 2012--accept it boys
Geez, what is it with Massachusetts and clueless, classless politicians: Kerry, Dukakis, Romney, ALL the Kennedys, Patrick -- the current rocket scientist governor...
It's interesting to read the comments, so far 5 pages of them, almost all of them mocking Kerry, there are a few pro-Palin comments mixed in there as well.
Never get tired of seeing that banner being held by our troops in Iraq.
THAT is funny!
John Kerry is such a loser, I know Dems who didn't vote for him in 2004. They all thought he was a slimeball. They are TERRIFIED of Sarah Palin, yeah I bet they wish she would just disappear, but she won't, God willing we still have a country in 2012, Sarah will beat Obama EASILY..GET OVER IT LIBS..SARAH WILL BE OUR NEXT PRESIDENT
Sounds like the 'Cuda just gets everyone all scared and all sheis doing is sitting up in AK being good and minding her own business.
These people KNOW that all the socialistic stuff of Obama will make a true Reagan conservative like Sarah scarey dangerous in 2012
I think it is so funny. Sarah doesn't look scarey or mean at all to me.
JuJu,
My wife actually does call me "Douglas" sometimes when I engage in bathroom humor. Or when I laugh out loud during the turbolax scene in Dumb and Dumber. Or during the bathroom scene in Along Came Polly when there was no TP. Or during the tent scene in Austin Powers 2. Or...
They laugh because they fear. It's one of those "jokes" that isn't really about humor as such, but rather is about the release of tension: they're afraid of Gov. Palin, Kerry says what I expect many of them had been thinking--"wouldn't it be easier if we didn't have to worry about Sarah Palin?"--and at the brief prospect of that happening, there's a release of tension, and they laugh. It's not really a joke in the classic sense . . . more like wishful thinking.
See Douglas, we women understand you men much better then you will ever know.

Good one, John!
I think Kerry was subtly referring to Sarah as a nuisance child raining down mischief on Obama's agenda who should be ashamed of disrespecting Obama and go into deepest part of the forest to atone for her sin against the Messiah and crawl up in a fetal position.
Another take on the joke is that 'children should be seen and not heard' or 'get lost', meaning we do NOT want to associate with you because you are not one of us, which of course is an elitist position.
And finally Kerry could have been expressing his hope that Palin would not be around to compete against 'his buddy' Mitt Romney, a real politician and Mitt should not have to lower himself to compete against 'the hick from Wasilla'.
Gee, Isn't the haughty John Kerry an elitist?
juju,
I taught my 12-year old son to yell "I didn't have any corn" from the bathroom (like Fat Bast*rd in Austin Powers). However, he yelled it once when my mother-in-law instead of me was walking past the bathroom. I was not very popular for the rest of that day.
Whatever the joke is, ultimately is he saying he wants a mother of 5 to show up missing? Consider Letterman an unofficial Democrat supporter, then it goes to an Official Democrat Blogger in Alaska, now a Democrat US Senator formerly Presidential Candidate. We see where the Dem. stand on women issues at all levels. They want a female to mother to go missing leaving children at home, one of which is a 14 month old with DOwn Syndrome. Dems are the most heartless individuals in the world. Never are we to hear they back women. THe truth has come out.
First Ensign, and now Sanford, what good solid Conservative values they exude.
Trivia question for you Portlandon.
Who did Pegge Begich marry after the disappearance and presumed death of Nick ?
Anyone ?
DDJ,
How is being a libertarian consistent with protectionism?
Take comfort in this, because it is more evidence that Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska scares the living hell out of these reprobates. In fact, she scares them so much that they don’t hesitate to make utterly vile statements about her in public — statements that in their saner moments they would unequivocally condemn: Statements that they would repudiate in any other circumstance — except the circumstance of life and death, which is the case here. Her life, their death, that is. Her political life is their political death. And they know it.
Glad we don't call flip-flops thongs anymore. John Kerry in a tho.......
Oh man.
No, no, only threw up in my mouth a little bit. I'm okay.
Nancy,
Please, I don't want to see the pizza I just ate again.
This was put on Sarah Palin's Facebook page 35 minutes ago:
"My heart and prayers are with Governor Sanford and especially his family during this difficult time." - Gov. Sarah Palin
Doug - It's not.
I lean Libertarian.
What does that mean ?
I believe in personal responsibility.
I believe that our government should fear it's people, not the other way around.
I believe in the right to bear arms.
I believe that all men and women are created equal in the eyes of the gods.
In the case of developing the resources of Alaska, be it oil, gas and other minerals, I believe that any development should be done in the best interest of the citizens of the state.
I am opposed to Pebble mine, I don't trust the developers.
I believe in developing our oil and gas resources on the North Slope, including offshore in the Chuckchi and Beaufort Seas.
I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't, in 1989 I worked for Shell Oil in their first wildcat well in the Chukchi Sea.
I've also worked offshore in the Beaufort and in Cook Inlet, all on wildcat drilling rigs.
The all-Alaska route is one that's been talked about for a very long time. Go back into the archives of the ADN or the old Anchorage Times, and read the stories about developing North Slope gas.
The stories are almost identical to those written today, just change the dates and the names of the players.
Today it's Anadarko and Enstar who are actively working to bring the Gubik gas field on line to provide energy for Alaskans.
There is a desperate need to bring on line new sources of natural gas for south central Alaska. And rural Alaskans need to find an alternative to barging in diesel fuel every summer.
Do you have any idea what the living conditions are in some areas of the Bush and what some people have to do to provide heat for their homes, or gas for the ATV's and snowmachines ?
The State of Alaska needs to develop these resources for the citizens first, plain and simple.
What is wrong with that ?
As I've stated before, I liked Governor Palin before the McCailieans got a hold of her. I didn't vote for her, but I was not displeased with her performance, overall.
I believe that having Sarah Palin in political office can be a good thing for Alaska, just not the Oval office, at least not in 2012.
And I've stated before, and I'll state again, just for you, I believe that Governor Palin has a lot to learn. You don't master the nuances of playing on a national or international stage from playing high school basketball, being a mayor of a small rural community, and one term as Chief Executive of one of the least populous states.
Her depth isn't broad enough, but that's just my rankly amateur estimation.
Well, and a few others too.
Sarah Palin, if she was smart, would hold her cards tight and learn the nuances of big time politics by running against Taco Young next year.
Happy ?
The Bottom line - Develop Alaska's resources for Alaskans.
Piss on Canada and their tar sands.
Can't believe John Kerry joked like that when John McCain is one of his buddies in the Senate.
Did Obama, Mr. Campaign and never run anything, have mastery over the nuances of playing on a national or international stage?
Just wondering how Obama had more experience than Palin is all.
He seems a bit lost and amateurish to me.
Kerry should not pulled a Letterman and say that about the Governor, that is not funny,
I hope for her safety and safe travels in whereever she goes- God please protect her. I she gets around our military, there is not IED that is coming thru to harm her,
Sarah 2012!
Once Again put Begich on the spot. His Father was a missing politician ask him if a Politician of small children missing is a laughing matter. Ask him to think back to '72 and should he come out with a statement against his fellow Dem or does he join in the laugh due to the fact it would be Willow, Piper and Trig.
Greta kind of compared the Palin overseas trip to Sanford. Greta to this day likes GOV Palin.
Wow, the first I heard about this Sanford thing, I thought it was a joke. Wow.
Unbelieveable.
(is it a bad thing to say that the upside is that he won't be a rival to the Gov in 2012?)
Yes, that is a bad thing. Shame on me for thinking it. But I thought it, nonetheless.
Jon F'ing Kerry said what all Dems think: just go away Sarah !
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Johnny Carson was funny. Letterman, Stewart and Kerry are not funny.
