Updated: John McCain's People Can Not Stop Trashing Sarah Palin; Kristol Identifies Steve Schmidt; Two McCain Staffers Fight Back Against Article
I assume that everybody has read the hit piece that will be published in the August edition of Vanity Fair. The Castroesque article is written by liberal writer Todd Purdum, the husband of former Clinton press secretary Dee Dee Myers. Bill Clinton actually doesn't think too highly of Purdum, notwithstanding his marriage to Myers:
“When asked about the article by Huffington Post writer Mayhill Fowler, Clinton said (in reference to Purdum): “He’s a really dishonest reporter…and I haven’t read (the article). There’s just five or six blatant lies in there. But he’s a real slimy guy.” When Fowler reminded Clinton that Purdum is married to his former press secretary, he responded: “That’s all right - he’s still a scumbag” and later added “He’s just a dishonest guy - can’t help it.”
I am amazed that somebody was actually paid to write this garbage, and that is exactly what it is: garbage. The same tired old lies and distortions are thrown at Governor Palin by the same tired old backstabbers from the McCain campaign. You know, I really hate to say this, but the behavior by these staffers really shows you what kind of people John McCain attracts as a politician. So, John, "my friend," please stop sending me fundraising emails.
First of all, let's get one thing straight: The timing of this article is meant to coincide with the release of SarahPAC's first financial disclosure. The article itself, as John Boehner would call it, is a "pile of sh*t." Did you know that Palin is a diva? That Palin personally purchased clothing worth up to $150,000? The truth is that Governor Palin did no such thing during the campaign. The clothing was purchased by the RNC and recently disposed of by the RNC, and it was never really Governor Palin's clothing at all. It belonged to the RNC and the governor borrowed it for the campaign trail. After the campaign ended, it all went back to the RNC.
These words, written by Purdum, are a flat out lie:
[A]nd the post-selection spending spree in which she ran up bills of $150,000 on clothes for herself and her family at high-end stores.
Sir, do you lie like this in your normal everyday life? Unbelievable.
The article (through unnamed McCain staffers) then makes the bizarre claim that Governor Palin has some kind of mental problems. Jim Geraghty over at the Campaign Spot addresses this here.
Other than the rehashed lies (nothing new here from the backstabbing McCain people), this article has some funny points. I'm not saying that the author was trying to be funny, but the way they present the McCain campaign is ironically funny. I still can't believe that this article praises Steve Schmidt. When was the last time Steve Schmidt's candidate won an election? Why does Steve Schmidt like to trash Sarah Palin so much? As Rush Limbaugh pointed out:
"John McCain’s campaign staff has spent more time attacking Sarah Palin than it did attacking Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers…and Obama himself."
When it comes down to it, John McCain was the worst Republican presidential candidate since Bob Dole. Who's brilliant idea was it to suspend this campaign? What was Schmidt thinking there? How did it help that McCain "flew back to Washington to solve the problem" and yet sat in on the meetings, said nothing, and then voted in the same manner as Barack Obama on TARP!?
Josh Painter makes a brilliant observation as to why the McCain staffers are behaving in such a manner:
Why, you may ask, are they doing this? It's simple, really. They want jobs with any potential GOP presidential candidate for 2012 who will hire them. In order to excuse the poor performance of the campaign they ran for McCain, they still need their scapegoat, and they long ago chose McCain's former running mate to blame their incompetence on. Though it's only 2009, we're approaching the point where the planning for primary campaigns begins, and staffing is one of the first things the nascent campaign organizations start thinking about.
Painter also links to an article that reveals which other Republican politician's minions are behind the attacks:
Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers, some of whom are currently working for Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin's bid for the White House, have been involved in spreading anti-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election. "Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012," says one former Romney aide, now working for McCain-Palin. "The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney. He's in charge on November 5th."
In classic hit piece fashion, Purdum only speaks to Palin's critics. I bet it really gives you a clear picture of someone when you only talk to people who hate that person. I bet you can really gain insight into a person when you only talk to people who wish that person ill. It's almost like Purdum went out and read all the old hit pieces from the campaign and compiled a list of all the people who hate the governor, then tracked them down in Alaska to ask them for some new quotes attacking her. Can you believe that this article actually quotes Lyda Green?
“Remember,” says Lyda Green, a former Republican state senator who once represented Palin’s home district, and who over the years went from being a supporter of Palin’s to a bitter foe, “her nickname in high school was ‘Barracuda.’ I was never called Barracuda. Were you? There’s a certain instinct there that you go for the jugular.”
Unbelievable.
As for the McCain staffers, these people are so despicable that they even admit to the author that they would never criticize Palin on the record. I have never seen a group of anonymous backstabbers actually see their credibility decrease over time.
In the grand scope of things, the author of this article should be ashamed of himself. He repeats the same old tired lies of the campaign and uses anonymous sources to do it. You will see a lot of this in his article, "a former McCain staffer told me...," and " I heard this from a source."
I am also incredibly disappointed in John McCain. Again, I have to ask the question: What kind of politician attracts people like his staffers? Why doesn't John McCain put an end to this with a statement? After all, he was the presidential candidate. If these staffers really want to blame somebody for the election results, they should really take a long, hard look in the mirror and stop blaming the only person that people gave a damn about. The person who drew 20,000 people to campaign stops (while McCain was drawing 500). The person who was zooming around the country trying to drag that miserable campaign across the finish line and actually produced a respectable result.
This article is the most biased, lie-filled entry I have ever personally read regarding Governor Palin. It is a vile hit piece that clearly seems timed to try to undermine her PAC's first financial disclosure. It is also serves as a "tryout" for those looking to help on other candidate's campaigns.
Something about Sarah Palin scares people in the Beltway and media elite, Republican and Democrat alike. It reminds me of a scene in the movie Major League. The manager of the team, Lou Brown, is explaining to his players that everybody is against them. The media, the fans, and even the owner want them to fail. After the speech, the heart and soul of the team, Jake Taylor gets up and says, "Well, there is only one thing left to do... win the whole freaking thing."
I agree with Jake on this one.
And if you want to do your part to help with that: Go donate to SarahPAC.
Update: Bill Kristol calls out Steve Schmidt by name:
Here’s a highlight of Purdum’s reporting: “More than once in my travels in Alaska, people brought up, without prompting, the question of Palin’s extravagant self-regard. Several told me, independently of one another, that they had consulted the definition of ‘narcissistic personality disorder’ in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders--’a pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy’--and thought it fit her perfectly.”
Is there any real chance that "several" Alaskans independently told Purdum that they had consulted the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders? I don’t believe it for a moment. I’ve (for better or worse) moved in pretty well-educated circles in my life, and I’ve gone decades without “several” people telling me they had consulted the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.
Meanwhile, on the day Purdum’s piece hit the web (today), a journalist who had expressed suspicions in the past that elements of the McCain campaign had undercut Palin suddenly got a friendly e-mail from top McCain-Palin campaign strategist Steve Schmidt. This journalist hadn’t heard from Schmidt in months. Perhaps Steve was nervous someone would finger him for the Purdum piece. One reason people might do so is this passage in Purdum’s article: “All the while, Palin was coping not only with the crazed life of any national candidate on the road but also with the young children traveling with her. Some top aides worried about her mental state: was it possible that she was experiencing postpartum depression? (Palin’s youngest son was less than six months old.)” In fact, one aide who raised this possibility in the course of trashing Palin’s mental state to others in the McCain-Palin campaign was Steve Schmidt.
Update by Mel: Jim Geraghty has a longer piece up on this now. It's well worth your time. A taste:
Indeed, she outrageously voiced her disagreement by responding to the Michigan pullout with, “Oh, come on, do we have to?” Mutiny! (By the way, that early pullout and its effect on the state Republicans’ morale is partially blamed for an abysmal showing for the GOP in down-ticket races.)
More here.
Update II by JR:
Amanda Carpenter reports that some McCain staffers are fighting back against the Vanity Fair article:
Two McCain staffers were immediately willing to go on the record with the Washington Times in their support for Mrs. Palin.
Jason Recher, who worked closely with Mrs. Palin as a vice presidential candidate, said “The mean tone of this article is completely false, this is not the Sarah Palin I knew and spent two and a half months with” and he was tired of reporters taking information on background without attribution from people unwilling to go on the record.
Mr. Recher said he was never approached for the article although he was one of a handful of people who spent “every morning, day and night” with Mrs. Palin in the heat of the campaign and is openly supportive of her today.
David Welch, deputy research director for the McCain-Palin ticket said he was “shocked to read the Vanity Fair article about Gov. Palin and the allegations made against her by former staffers” and complained “significant parts of the story are based on half truths and gossip from staffers who refused to go on the record.”
Update II by Mel: Amanda Carpenter has added some new quotes from Randy Scheunemann:
Randy Scheunemann, director of foreign policy and national security for the McCain-Palin campaign and who played Joe Biden in Mrs. Palin’s debate prep, was happy to push back against the Vanity Fair piece, saying she was an impressive and capable candidate.
He recalled her performance in the vice-presidential debate where she “held her own and went toe-to-toe” against Mr. Biden, a candidate with much more experience in debates and decades of public service. She was “incredibly hard-working and concerned she’d do a good job for John McCain who was a national hero and plucked her from obscurity,” Mr. Scheunemann said. “That weighed on her every day.”
More here.
Update: Scheunemann is not backing down:
“Steve Schmidt has a congenital aversion to the truth,” Scheunemann said. “On two separate and distinct occasions, he speculated about about Governor Palin having post-partum depression, and on the second he threatened that if more negative publicity about the handling of Governor Palin emerged that he would leak his speculation [about post-partum depression] to the press. It was like meeting Tony Soprano.”
Bill Kristol:
Responding to Schmidt’s counter-attack, Kristol directly fingered Schmidt: “It’s simply a fact that when the going got tough, Steve Schmidt trashed Sarah Palin, both within the campaign and (on background) to journalists. This was after Steve took credit for the Palin pick when, at first, he thought it made him look good. John McCain deserved better.”
UPDATE by RAM: This photo of Schmidt seems appropriate...

This guy should never work on any campaign again -- any -- even a campaign for the local dog catcher.

I made my first-ever political campaign donation ONLY because Sarah the the VP nominee.
There was nothing "disastrous" in her election performance, either.
To those anonymous staffers I say, "Bring it on, Sunshine."
I originally thought McCain's campaign's mishandling (to say the least) of Palin was gross ineptitude.
From all I'm seeing now, I would have to say it looks more like sabotage.
...which is part of the Dem's essentially running the lame McCain as their '08 opponent in the first place, sabotage -- with McCain either the willing conspirator (to get even with the GOP) or useful tool.
I'm aware that Romney staffers jumped to the McCain camp, so after McCain tapping Palin (instead of Romney), it is not surprising at all that they willfully sabotaged Palin in the general election.
Looks like Romney's team is still at it!
Nope not even worth reading--man she must scare this people to death--it would almost be laughable if it was not so sad. A voter for Sarah
I have lost just about all respect for John McCain. Somebody needs to tell directly, "JOHN, PUT A STOP TO THESE LIES FROM YOUR PEOPLE!!!!" Maybe it needs to be Sarah herself. She showed him a lot of respect and still does, but he shows none for her. She needs to ream him out behind the scenes. So what if she doesn't get his endorsement? It would be a good thing. His endorsement isn't worth a bucket of warm spit anymore, anway.
Stupid Vanity Fair just cost me another $100.
I expect this from inside-the-beltway campaign-staff trash (worthless parasites who've never done productive work in their lives), but I'm severely disappointed in McCain for not ripping these cowards a new one and disassociating himself from them. That, along with McCain voting against drilling in ANWAR again, could provide an opportunity for Palin to endorse his primary opponent. I doubt she'd do that, but if she wanted to she's got the perfect opportunity. The ANWAR thing gives her the cover of "nothing personal John, I'm just watching out for the best interests of my constituents".
sjk, who says Palin can't stand the heat -- she thrives in it!
I donated $25 and every time I see dishonest articles like Todd Pudrum's again then I'll donate again. So bring it on!
I thought sjk-from-his-mommy's-basement was banned.
Ted,
Yeah, and it shows what a pathetic, cowardly little beta-male Slick Willard Romney is. He doesn't even have the stones to attack her directly, he has to do it through proxies. He ought to rethink his strategy, because I'll stay home if he's the nominee.
My conspiracy theory theory is; once the McCain camp saw that Mrs. Palin was better thought of than Mr. McCain they got afraid, and could not have such a common sense woman as second in conmand,--they just don't realize how much better off our children would have been.
I found the sleazeball author on Facebook. I sent him a message that his article was motivational... it motivated me to donate to Sarah's PAC :)
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=675136971&hiq=todd%2Cpurdum
Great piece as usual JR. Again, the best point is that this piece, along with the Romney puff piece out yesterday, is timed perfectly to blunt the PAC disclosure. Me thinks those numbers will shock and awe the Rockefeller Blue Blood Establishment Elite Inside the Beltway jerkoffs.
Now we have to hope that this along w/ Painter's piece gets linked up in the blogosphere.
If you strike Sarah down she will become more powerful than you can possibly believe.
As for the anonymous ex McCain campaign staffers stabbing the Governor in the back, I concur with Josh Painter's assessment of the situation that they are most likely Romney stooges looking to score some points with the Romney campaign before they begin recruiting for 2012.
All I can say is if Governor Palin does run in 2012 and wins the nomination I hope she freezes these back stabbing little stooges and lackeys out of her campaign and her administration once she becomes President. (Which sort of explains why these rats aren’t willing to identify themselves)
Vanity Fair hit job has to be one of the most ridiculous. Here are some gems they use as sources:
“anonymous source”
“longtime McCain friend”
“people brought up”
“most”
“Several told me”
“Some top aides”
This is the most ridiculous hit piece because it is just a regurgitated recycle job of the same mud from previous stories.
This should be in the fiction section of a second rate thrift book store.
Also, this is more proof that the media is in cohorts with the Obama administration. Obama's Rasmussen poll #'s is today in the negatives (-2) for the first time. So to deflect Obama's impotence they ramp up the Palin attacks.
Why do they not attack Romney or Huckabee? BECAUSE THEY POSE NO THREAT TO PRESIDENT O-BEY.
"From all I'm seeing now, I would have to say it looks more like sabotage."
Ted, I'm starting to see this, too.
I just want everyone to know that I am officially declaring WAR on the ROMNEY campaign at 12:35 and have already sent it up to congress for approval.
As Joseph said, it is complete garbage!
By the way, the MSM, RINOs, Republican elites, and anonymous former McCain and Romney staffers could learn a lot from a cartoon rabbit.

I'm all for critiquing one's policies or political strategies respectfully. We do it at C4P all of the time. Some of us disagree with Gov. Sarah on some policy or strategy, and we disagree with other politicians on a whole slew of policies and strategies.
But, hey, the glossy paper industry may be kept alive solely by all of the venomous, vile attacks on Gov. Sarah. The attack Palin industry since late August 2008 may have saved more jobs than the "stimulus" package. So, I guess, I say keep it up, so called journalists! You'll have to eat your words in November 2010 and/or November 2012!
Sorry for all of the deleted comments. I don't proofread very well when I'm frustrated, so I needed to make some grammatical corrections.
Just like the Letterman Advertisers
Hit them hard! Hit them where they live!
All right, I got my anger out of the way in the previous two threads,So this is what Team Romney has been doing since the election, preparing the road for
"Mittens". Time for a sequel to
"Bore in the Woods" and the "Mrs. Congeniality" intro clip:
"Wolverines, Ho"
What a piece of trash. Aside from relying on anonymous, that famous sage, he trots out the old claim about her 'shopping.
Really, any sources for that? Any clerks who've waited on her? Any video of her going into a store from the press bus following her? No, just Walmart, buying diapers.
And you call yourself reporters!
I agree, let us boycott the Vanity fair sponsors, if we do not stand up and speak up for this lady, this country is going to be in a world of hurt-
McCain, I campaigned for you, I did the telephone banks and also the posters and gave of my time, its time to do that for Sarah who in my eyes is a patriot at this time!
Sarah 2012!
The only decent article a Conde Nast publication has had in many years - IMO - is the "Vogue" article on Sarah in Feb '08, when 99.9% of the world had never heard of her. It was VERY fair, about as pro-Sarah article there will ever be from a MSM publication.
Having said that, no one reads "Vanity Fair" except those who only watch MSNBC and think Keith Olbermann is god. Sure, the Morning Joes and Kathleen Parkers will think this article just about destroys any chance Sarah has of winning any election. Their stupidity about Sarah and Main Street America knows no bounds.
It all boils down to Sarah having "the folks" in her back pocket. She owns the grass roots, lock, stock, and barrel. Hands down. For all of the hundreds of articles written and air molecules wasted over the recent months about how the Republican Party can't win w/out the Mushy Middle, very few have been written about how the Republican Party cannot win without "the folks". If the registered Republican "folks" decide to sit out Nov 2012, Obama will win all 50 states in a cakewalk.
The Washington Republican elite know this yet they secretly (often not-so-secretly) try to belittle her. They know she owns them too with power she has of potentially running as a third-party candidate.
Whatever Sarah decides to do in 2012, she's already controlling the outcome of that election day.
Keep pilin' it on leftwingers, Mushy Middlers. She just becomes that much stronger in the eyes of "the folks".
Put up a link to Kristol...he fingers Steve Schmidt:
http://www.weeklystandard.com/weblogs/TWSFP/2009/06/kristol_liberal_media_and_gop.asp
The bad news is this article in VF, the good news is no one reads VF.
Sarah reminds me of one of these big blow up dolls, you punch it real good and knock it to the floor and it just pops right back up in your face.
Got to go make my donation now.
Adding Schmidt to the blacklist. This was the guy who gave up after the Lehmanns crash and he has the gall to snipe about post-partum depression? Whether Schmidt squeaked to VF or not, the mere fact that he could crack such disgusting jokes is proof enough.
Yet another-fine peace of journalism worthy of the Garbage Disposal.
I don't agree with Bill Clinton often, but he got this right.
Purdum,is a "scumbag.” With his "PAC" of lies, it sends me off
to another "PAC." It's called SarahPAC!
JR. Thanks for shinning your light on another cockroach.
Do you folks ever consider the possibility that periodic rehashes like this might do more hare to our cause than good?
Some of this stuff I had never seen (or had not attached any importance to it) but now, if I am a believer in the google-hit-count theory of truth I have preponderance of evidence argument that there is something wrong with Palin.
How about just saying, if you most advertize it all, "Vanity Fair is about to publish a boatload of crap by ..... about which Bill Clinton said...."
Note that the article quotes Jim Lottsfeldt, second generation Democrat party hack.
And don't forget good old Wally Hickel, a fine man who is now in middle stages of dementia.
sheesh! Dragging out meanie Greenie is guaranteed to give the article veracity?
My mother always said, "Beauty is only skin deep" and my better half always says, "yes, and ugly goes clear to the bone"!
No one could ever accuse Lydia Green of being a 'Barracuda'. She was never given any name of endearment as far as I know.
Give me a name of your sources, sir and we can debate. Hide behind the anonymous shield and there is nothing to say, other than "Get lost".
Going to concur with the above. Schmidt is an infuriating tool, but we have to move past the 2008 campaign. Her opponents want to keep bringing it up as a way of distracting her and keeping her voice on the important issues from being heard.
These people are exhausting!!
And Steve Schmidt, from my perspective, was one of the smarmiest and ineffective campaign managers I have ever seen! I didn't much like him last fall and I certainly haven't gained more respect for him since.
Another small, but heartfelt, donation to SarahPAC ensues...
I have posted the Bill Kristol and the Real Clear Politics articles over at Lucianne.com
I'm sorry, but anyone who even suggested something like that which
Steve Schmidt said, really should have been fired.
Palin: "Little Shop of Horrors" According to McCain Aide
Between Allahpundit, & the lib media, I'm going broke donating to SARAHPAC!!!
Really though, lets make a good push for SarahPac and donate what you can today.
Vanity Fair just gave another $25 dollars of my money to SarahPac.
Thats 5 times the cost of their so called magazine.
You might want to change the references in the post of "Putnam" to "Purdum."
Also, you might want to discuss why Bill Clinton said those things. If I recall correctly, Purdum wrote a similarly sleazy article about him during the primaries.
I wouldn't worry, though, too much about this article. I doubt there is a single subscriber to Vanity Fair who didn't vote for Obama. Thackeray himself wouldn't read that junk if he were alive.
The author of this Vanity Fair hit piece, Todd Purdam, is a slime-ball who should not even be writing, both because of his content and his style.
But, this garbage flourishes because the editors / owners of Vanity Fair allow it.
Just like the Loserman situation, we should be going after the advertisers and the owners.
What kind of corporation actually allows this sewage to drip from its pages?
And don't you think there are some respectable advertisers in Vanity Fair that should be apprised of what their $$$ support?
This needs to pursued with a vengeance.
Also, doesn't it seem odd that they haven't come up with ONE smear campaign issue that wasn't brought up in the campaign ???
Palin supporters know the real reason John McShame wasn't crushed beyond recognition in the election - Sarah Palin dragged him to the finish line to a kind-of respectable 2nd place.
portlandon June 30, 2009 1:21 PM
lol...that’s almost like some sort of political drinking game.
Every time some two bit hack from the MSM writes a hit piece about Governor Palin everybody donates $25 to SarahPAC or the Alaska Trust Fund.
For some reason this article doesn't disgust me like many others. I think it is because so much of it is the same old rehashed story. OK the post partum depression is a new one, but same oh slime within the losing McCain team.
Look the McCain campaign was one of if not worse campaign since probably the Dukakis one on '88. These people need jobs and they know that if they don't blame somebody the will end up unemployed for life. They have to keep themselves in a hedge their bets scenario. My question is who in the McCain camp said stop their campaign and go back to Washington and do nothing? Wonder if that had any affect on the campaign?
Oh after reading the RW interview who cares about this one.
Wow, Todd P., you didn't even have to leave the house to write this, did you?
"Having said that, no one reads "Vanity Fair" except those who only watch MSNBC and think Keith Olbermann is god."
Actually, while I don't buy it, I do flip through this magazine from time to time. A lot of girls (conservatives) I know, even in my own family (ALL conservatives), buy this magazine.
The difference is that we know articles like this are trash and we ignore them. It's one of those, "Wow, they really hate her. All the more reason to vote for Sarah! Love that chic!"
So no worries.
Yeah, I read the article.
I think VF nailed it. Palin is an incompetent fool who had no business getting anywhere close to the White House.
A national disgrace and embarrassment to have her on the ticket.
I donated again to SarahPAC.
What a detestable human being that Schmidt guy is. To accuse Sarah of depression and of Trig being the cause of her depression is beyond the pale. A jerk and a lousy campaign manager. Now we identified some of these anonymous sources: Wallace and Schmidt.
Any republican who invites these fools to their show should be ashamed of themselves.
Vanity Fair by itself may not have many subscribers, and most of them may be liberals, but the problem is that this story will get (or already has gotten?) picked up big time by the rest of the media and the Internet.
And it's on newsstands and right there at the supermarket checkout for millions to look at and form a false impression just looking at the cover. It's not the Star or the Globe, although this article may fail even their journalistic standards.
Some say ignore it and don't respond, and they may very well be right, but I think that the Governor herself should do something substantial to counter the lies in this article. She is best situated to set the record straight, and she needs to do so plainly and effectively.
Perhaps there is no equivalent magazine outlet she could trust, but she could write an op-ed for say ..... the Wall Street Journal. Or whatever.
The thing is ..... her response AS WELL would command attention by the media. She herself would be able to be heard, where others writing on her behalf are easily ignored.
My opinion is that we should learn some lessons from both the Obama campaign and the Bush White House. One responded forcefully and promptly to allegations against them, and the other sat around and let the media define them. The fighter is in the White House now. The sitter left it with approval ratings in the cellar.
Bottomline Sarah and the crew McCain gave her did not tick at all. These people fear Sarah getting the nod in '12 and there is a better chance of her hiring a homeless person off the street than them and so they have to try and bury her.
Smoke' em if you got got 'em C4Peeps, P-Day is upon us.
MEDIA EXEC ADMITS NEW ANTI-PALIN CONSPIRACY
A private source at a major New York daily newspaper has admitted on condition of anonymity that the paper is one of several working closely with an army of young bloggers and at least one TV network to ensure that the flow of negative publicity targeting Sarah Palin continues unabated for the next four years.
“The thinking is, We can’t afford to let her bounce back,” he said. “If she’s all shined up and ready to go in 2012, and if ordinary people have already started to rebel against the consequences of some of Barack’s more extreme economic and social policies, we’re in deep trouble. The decision has been made at the highest levels to keep Palin down, at any cost and by any means necessary.”
PRAY FOR THIS COUNTRY and Governor Palin!!!!
This trash coming out from the campaign of the man that said "you have nothing to fear from an Obama Presidency". WHAT?
These staffers, and his comments are just a disgrace to the party. While this kind of crapola goes on the nation is taking on water faster than the Titanic on that night in April 1912.
1-20-13, WE HOPE FOR CHANGE at noon on that day. Governor Palin are you up to the task?
Pray for roadblocks for BHO as he attempts to destroy....sorry "remake" America!!!!
SERIOUSLY PRAY!!!!
ROMNEY? The teardown by Romney of any and all opponents is breathtaking.
He's not a nice person I think. And I voted for him last April on Super Tuesday. He'd probably be better than BHO (or whatever his real name is).
I never thought I would see this in the United States of America. We've got to stop being Lazy Conservatives!!!
1-20-13, we hope!!!!
Serious question.
What could you possible like about Palin as a candidate?
Did you all miss the Couric interview?
The VP debate?
The woman is an ignorant buffoon. And nothing personal, just professionally.
lol John, your attempts at flaming the thread are way too obvious. If you really don't know, try the article "C4P: Who We Are and What We Stand For" at the top on the left. Blah blah blah "ignorant buffoon" type comments will get you laughed out of here pretty quick.
I made a Sarahpac donation yesterday. However, in honor of Steve Schmidt, I made another today.
Purdum also mentions Gregg Erickson who has been used for quotes by Rachel d'Oro of AP. Erickson is often described as some sort of Alaskan political guru but only because he is always useful for an anti Palin remark. I think Purdum "palled around" with d'Oro because their standards of journalism are both regurgitated drivel.
alwaysfiredup,
Could not find "C4P: Who We Are and What We Stand For"
I'm very interested in reading it. I find it extremely unlikely that it will change my mind but I want to read it regardless.
Any help would be appreciated.
Awww, look at John (not you, john with a lower case j) try to be relevant to this site with his "insightful" comments.
John - you dont happen to be related to the Mayor of Sacramneto do you?
Here's Pawlenty kind of defending Palin:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/31667042#31667042
John - don't kid us. If your criticism was professional, you wouldn't have used the phrase "ignorant buffoon".
Why do we like Sarah Palin? Because she's authentic - she connects with the working class because she comes from the working class. She's not an elite snob like so many others. And how many other governors have taken the time to visit their National Guard units deployed overseas?
As for Katie Couric - who cares about her? She's not a real journalist; she's an entertainer who was hired by CBS simply because of her legs. Why do you think the CBS Evening News consistently trails its competitors? She does not represent the values of mainstream America.
The one reason I switched my vote from Chuck Baldwin to John McCain at the last moment in 2008 was because of Sarah Palin. If it wasn't for Palin on the ticket, McCain would have been blown out like Goldwater in '64.
Any more questions about why we like Sarah Palin?
"Serious question.

How much are you being paid, John?
Couric is a hack.
VP Debate? The one with the plagiarist idiot that can't even read his lines straight? That one?
And your "ignorant buffoon" remark says worlds about what you will do for pay, and nothing about Sarah Palin. There are a lot of things about her that you might legitiately dislike, but "ignorant" and "buffoon" are not on the list.
Do you get paid on multiples of thirty? Sounds like the sort of things our masters might do.
John:
I'll humor you. The site is slow today for some reason. :)
http://www.conservatives4palin.com/2009/04/c4p-who-we-are-and-what-we-stand-for.html
Oh! is all just regurgitated stuff over and over again.
Guess this is really good news in a way, Sarah has become the poster child of VETTING, never has anyone been so Vetted, that all that's left to hear, is like a stuck record repeating the same thing over and over again!
Anchorage Activist,
"Why do we like Sarah Palin? Because she's authentic - she connects with the working class because she comes from the working class. She's not an elite snob like so many others. And how many other governors have taken the time to visit their National Guard units deployed overseas?"
That's all fine and dandy from a personal standpoint. But business is business and I'd like to know what you like about her professionally.
Is it the windfall profits tax on oil that she uses to redistribute wealth evenly to all Alaskans?

How can you resist John's mournful plea for help?
"Any help would be appreciated.

By acting like a dhimocrapic troll.
But I' not one, so here you go John: http://www.conservatives4palin.com/2009/04/c4p-who-we-are-and-what-we-stand-for.html
Don't let the door catch you in the face on your way out.
John:
If I interviewed you, and then edited the interview so your answers didn't match my questions, I could have made you, or anybody else, look as stupid as I wished. Couric did exactly that. And she should have been fired for it, except her network is nothing but a DNC party organ, so she got an award.
As far as the debate, she kicked Biden's ass and everybody knows it.
Larry Sheldon,
What?, since you perceive Couric to be a hack it somehow rationalizes Palin's ignorant responses?
And because you don't care for Biden that somehow justifies Palin pathetic performance, lack of knowledge, and just plain ignoring the questions?
And I have no idea what this "getting paid" is all about. If someone is willing to pay me for what I enjoy doing for free I'd love to meet them.
"Is it the windfall profits tax on oil that she uses to redistribute wealth evenly to all Alaskans?"
A) There was never a windfall profits tax implemented under Governor Palin.
B) There's also this thing called the Alaska State Constitution... which was written before Governor Palin was born.
Look into it.
You're free to like and dislike whomever you want. But at least let your opinion be based upon facts.
John:
Other essential post here at C4P:
http://www.conservatives4palin.com/2009/03/who-is-sarah-palin.html
We think she is doing an excellent job of running Alaska. She has reduced the overall budget, reduced earmarks, and reduced the Governor's personal budget. She presides over one of two states that avoided the recession (the other, I believe, is North Dakota). She believes in using Alaska's environment and resources judiciously and effectively. She's strongly pro-life and yet appointed a pro-choice person to the Alaska Supreme Court because that's how the Alaska SC process works. She looks for compromise where she can get it but never gives up her principles. She holds herself to a higher ethics standard than any prior AK governor and apparently higher than the other current legislators in AK (see Ramras, Jay). And through all the personal slime sent her way, she stays a happy warrior. Why shouldn't we love her?
"Is it the windfall profits tax on oil that she uses to redistribute wealth evenly to all Alaskans?"
1) It's not a windfall profits tax.
2) The AK constitution says petroleum resources are the property of AK citizens. Therefore, it's not redistributing wealth.
Okay guys start memorizing and publicizing these names (from JP at texas4palin.blogspot.com)
McCain staffers whose loyalties were with Romney:
Tucker Eskew, Nicole Wallace, John Feehery, Carl Forti, Kevin Madden, Michelle Laxalt, Joe Pounder and Joe Gray.
VO, you said Rob Gray s/b added to the list as well. Is there anyone I'm missing-outside of Steve Schmidt?
Folks, lest your forget Steven Schmidt, McCain's head campaign honcho at Delaware University revealed about a month ago that he thought to himself and told McCain that McCain would lose the election after Lehman Brothers declared bankruptcy on Sept.16, 2008, within 24 hours of its collapse.
He should have quit then and there but instead stayed on till the very end. That's like a field officer leading his troops to battle assuming they are going to be slaughtered and pessimistically accepting the fact without allowing the full force of your confrontational weaponry to play itself out.
Everything that happened in the campaign from Sept. 16th has to be seen through that prism including the Gibson and Couric interviews, Palin's displeasure with the campaign handlers, the talk of Palin being a diva and going rogue, the refusal to attack Obama over Jeremiah Wright, the apparent decision not to go harder on Obama for his other associations or his radical background, McCain on October 13th basically telling the American people they not have to be frightened of an Obama presidency, and the slamming by unnamed and anonymous sources of Sarah Palin two days after the vote and finally what has gone on up to this day to slam Sarah Palin.
Let me ask the readers of C4P, if you were running for any public office and your campaign manager told you were going to lose 49 days before the vote would take place would you perhaps say get off my boat, I'm getting somebody else to steer my ship?
"And because you don't care for Biden that somehow justifies Palin pathetic performance, lack of knowledge, and just plain ignoring the questions?"
Yes, I was particularly upset when Governor Palin was discussing that time that the US and France kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon...
oh wait...
John: First you call Palin a an ignorant buffoon. Your assessment of her. Then you are begging for reading material to find out why we think she is not a ignorant buffoon.
Sounds to me like you are the ignorant buffoon. Apparently, you make decisions on candidates without truly knowing their positions and only the things you have read in and by the MSM and other libs.
Thanks, I read the C4P who we are and what we stand for and felt this summed it up best.
"We support her respect for the culture of life. We support her belief in limited government and true free market capitalism -- not the crony capitalism that once festered in Alaska or the corporatism that is currently taking hold in this country. We support her belief that America must be strong in order to be peaceful."
Most American's agree other than the abortion issue.
There are plenty of competent and capable leaders that believe in the same principles.
Palin isn't one of them.
According to the wingnutosphere she is a socialist with her tax oil companies and distributing it evenly to all Alskans.
Ever here the term "redistribution of wealth"?
The Alaskan Oil tax and their system of the income is relatively simple.
a. It is in their State Constitution. Governor Palin couldn't change it if she wanted to.
b. Know how mineral/oil/gas drilling and or mining works. Those that own the land gets the resource profits. Oil companies rarely if ever buy land. Sfterall what happens when the oil is gone? They are not real estate companies so what do they do with it nothing. That leads to why Alaska has so much State vs private property. LEt us take say the 2000 acres at ANWR. The State owns the land but how much would the land be worth? Estimates are conservatively 4 billion barrels of oil. If the normal landowner got (I think it is around 70% of the profit then figure at $50 a barrel 70% would be 35 dollars and this is low. 4 billion barrels time 35 means the oil underneath is worth (conservatively) $140 billion. That means Bill Gates and Warren Buffet could not combine and pay for the land without a loan. Now in the same Tundra if there are no minerals/resouces then the land probably has not gone up much since Seward bought it about 140 years ago. SO what happens is the State has to do something with it. Which leads to C.
c. IF the State gets the resources that leads to the question what is the State? Alaska looked at it as our founding fathers did and said the State is the people so give the money to the people and let them decide what to do with it instead of the power in the Government and the Government deciding what to do with it. What form of Government is this? I don't it isn't Socialist (people are too much in control) It is libertarian (they would have divided the land up amongst the citizens). I guess it is Alaskaism.
You can't possibly be this dense.
If we all bought 100 shares of a mutual fund which paid a dividend, are we partaking in "redistribution of wealth" or capitalism? Easy question, please answer it.
After you have come to the logical conclusion that dividend payment from a mutual fund is not redistributionist, you should read up on the Alaskan Constitution. After doing that, please answer this question: Did Sarah Palin help author the Alaskan Constitution?
Step by step.... I know you're a bit slow, but you can work through this...
Another Palin beauty, applauding the fact that the citizens of Alaska's oil is worth less. And thus every Alaskan's income is less.
HANNITY: The price of oil is going up again. It’s not quite at $140 a barrel, but it’s certainly on its way up to $70 and $80.
PALIN: Yeah, well and I thank God it’s not at $140. You know people say, “Hey, Alaska! Eight-five percent of your state budget is based on the price of a barrel of oil. Aren’t you glad the price is going up?” I say, “No!” The fewer dollars that the state of Alaska government has, the fewer dollars we spend. And that’s good for our families and for the private sector.
John - Sorry on the Abortion issue you didn't see the latest polls. Pro-Abortion is now the minority.
Hopefully I explained in my last post why Alaska is neither Socialist or Libertarian.
John,
Why don't you read these articles?
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122057543526201877.html
http://www.petroleumnews.com/pntruncate/936617849.shtml
http://beldar.blogs.com/beldarblog/2008/08/windfall-profit.html#c125996830
John - Alaska for next year based their budget on 58 dollars a barrel. The problem when it goes way up is ALaskans suffer the same problem as everybody else did. Food goes up, fuel goes up etc etc. After a while the citizen reaches the point of diminishing return with oil revenues then it is eaten up by high prices. You may want to research and see what Alaskans think of their fuel expenses in State. Then you would know why she said this.
John says:
"There are plenty of competent and capable leaders that believe in the same principles."
Name one. I dare you.
"According to the wingnutosphere she is a socialist with her tax oil companies and distributing it evenly to all Alskans."
What does this even mean? Who is the "wingnutosphere"? You sound liberal to me, so why do you care what a "wingnutosphere" thinks? Do you think she is a socialist? If you are indeed a lib, do you even think being a socialist is a bad thing?
Alaska was incorporated under orders to use its natural resources to benefit its residents and the nation. Regardless of what Gov. Palin would prefer to do, she is obligated to uphold the law. Instead of spending oil production revenues on massive new government programs, she returns the excess to Alaska residents in the form of cash. Doesn't seem very socialist to me.
I find it interesting that all of you support the redistribution of Alaska's oil wealth.
The last guy to do that, Saddam Hussein with Iraqi oil, didn't fare so well.
And we have a new Senator from Minnesota.
Congratulations, Senator Al Franken.
And ouch, that's gotta hurt.
Everyone,
This is all Romney here. All the BS is being spread from Romney's people that were inside the McCain campaign. No one benefits from these made up stories other than Romney.
Way to not answer, John. We were having a nice professional convo about the professional accomplishments of Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska. Instead you change the subject to the Minnestoa senate race. Obviously assuming all of us here are Republicans (newsflash: I'm not.) How about a real counterargument?
John is a tool. He either doesn't want to get it, or is too incompetent to get it.
Let's move on.
Donating every month from here till 2012. I'm tired of this.
John,
WTF does Franken have to do with ANYTHING? BTW, it's not a done deal. If Coleman appeals and it goes to SCOTUS, Coleman will win so long as the equal-protection argument is made and the Bush v. Gore precedent is followed. So go suck on that.
RAM, we have a troll who refuses to debate or stay on topic.
I don't know if anyone has seen this but Jim Geraghty at NRO has another post up with more analysis on the VF hit piece.
In part:
"To go through the 9,800 word profile/excoriation of Sarah Palin by Todd Purdum in Vanity Fair and Fisk it line by line would take an enormous amount of time and space, and probably more time than you’re willing to devote to reading it. So for now, the low-lights:"
Be sure to read the rest.

Mark McKinnon and Nicole Wallace sorta' defending Palin, they both were pretty good actually:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/31667042#31664984
You have to forward to the last few mins of the babble ...
And even Chuck Todd's question was basically "do you think this type of article will just make her stiffen her spine and work to prove all the naysayers wrong? Does this just strengthen her?"
Maybe Todd's actually getting it; he'll never pander for her as he does the One, but at least he might be getting her measure.
'unnamed McCain staffers' I'm not sure if McCain people really said that, but I think McCain needs to support Sarah more... The liberals are trying to furter divide our Party. As a VERY conservative person, I AM a Republican, in order to win we have to become a "Big Tent" party, with Conservative Leadership, of course (well, because thats How are party and our NATION was founded)
All I can say is If McCain's people are saying this, You guys should be ashamed.
If Not, the Liberals writing this 'crap' need to move on. Just wait until Jan. 20, 2013 when sarah becomes President, you'll be sad... Reagan in Heels.
From VF and Bill Kristol at the Weekly Standard:
"More than once in my travels in Alaska, people brought up, without prompting, the question of Palin's extravagant self regard...narcissistic personally disorder...a pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy-and thought it fit her perfectly.
...some (McCain) aides worried about her (Palin) mental state; was it possible she was experiencing postpartum depression...in fact, one aide who raised this possibility in the course of trashing Palin's mental state to others in the McCain-Palin campaign was Steve Schmidt."
TRANSLATION:
While Obama's war room maintains its narrative that Sarah Palin is an idiot, the GOP establishment, disgruntled McCain handlers, RINO's, or Romney hacks, whatever you want to call them have decided to embark on a new narrative.
I think it has been determined by GOP politicos is that if it continued to follow in the footsteps of Obama's 'Palin stupidity' narrative it might risk alienating the conservative base in the GOP by claiming that Palin was an idiot that therefore her supporters were dolts, yahoos, morons or trailer trash.
So what they have come up with is a way to diminish her intellectually without insulting the base. Of course the narrative is far-fetched and sexist but when you are desperate you will assume more risk and the risk that the Romney campaign incurs is that the GOP base might be so turned off by these tactics that they begin to abandon Romney out of anger and embrace Palin out of sympathy.
Of course Romney will deny he had anything to do with the VF piece and may feel his denial may allow him a cocoon of protection to escape the wrath of the base, but in this world of the high-speed Internet and right-wing blogosphere and of course C4P I wouldn't count on it.
Prediction: this tactic won't work either. It might have worked in 1970 when misogyny was more prevalent and jokes about gender stereotypes still were common, but in 2009 it is now passe.
Romney, my advice to you: leave Palin alone, let her sink or swim on her own abilities to organize and get her ducks in a row and you do the same thing and let the better person win in the 2012 primaries. Mitt, I will tell you now, if you continue down this sleazy road, you will not win the Presidency. Palin supporters are tribal. We will never forget what you have done to her and many of us will stay away from the polls and not vote at all or vote third party.
Thanks for allowing me to post but it is time I move on.
And by all means, donate and stump for Palin to your hearts content.
She has no chance and it only further weakens the GOP. And based on what the GOP has become and what they did to our country it is a good thing to see them destroyed.
And I did learn something. That Alaska has a socialist constitution. I wonder why they don't amend it. It couldn't be that most Alaskans are um, socialists. Sure seems like it to me.

Yes. I know. Mea culpa. Took me a while to catch on.
Sorry. I can't figure out how to make the sign look right--the left-force the John brings is too strong.
I'm new here, but I am not so sure that Sarah should run for POTUS in 2012. I hate to see her opportunity for a real, substantive, governing mandate go to waste. I want to see the Governor reelected in Alaska, where she can continue to compile a lengthy record of conservative accomplishment. She is only 45, right? Then she can run for POTUS in 2016 or 2020. She would only be 55 or 56 at that point. Jim Geraghty at the Campaign Spot on National Review has some great advice along that line. What are your thoughts?
abfos,
I don't think she should wait. First, our country can't survive as we know it if Obama has an entire eight years to destroy it. Scond, this is her time. The nomination is hers if she goes for it. Who knows what circumstances will be like in 2016? The country needs her now.
In the NRO piece I linked above @ 3:27, Geraghty says this:
“Palin may run for president in 2012, which could very well be a mistake. Her current public reputation and support is probably just enough to win the GOP nomination and then generate similar Electoral College results as 2008. As a GOP strategist put it to me a few months ago, “The perception of Sarah Palin will change when the reality of Sarah Palin changes.”
http://tinyurl.com/m5plqb
I find Geraghty’s admission that Sarah could capture the GOP nomination in 2012 to be very interesting. But I would argue that his analysis of a Palin Electoral College defeat similar to 2008 is somewhat flawed. His analysis is correct if Obama approval numbers remain high – a Palin defeat would be likely - but that would be true no matter whom the GOP nominee is. But as we all know, Obama’s numbers are falling. And there is a definite sense that Obama fatigue is quickly setting in. If anything 2012 is shaping up to be an Electoral College landslide for the GOP nominee. The insiders of the GOP know this and that is why they have to take her down.
jimr3,
I agree but her VP pick could also seal the deal.
abfos:
Let me offer you a sports analogy. Suppose you were 16 and a world-class extremely talented skier but a little raw and perhaps needed a little seasoning according to the experts but deep down you knew you could compete in 2 years and win the Olympic gold medal, would you just put your dreams on the shelf until someone told you were ready to compete or would you run with your burning desire and work iike a dog on a 24/7 basis for the next 2 years to develop the seasoning to become a finely-tuned skier?
Or to put it another way at the age of 20 Tiger Woods faced a decision whether to leave Stanford and join the PGA Tour or be conventional and stay in college, get his degree and compete at age 22 when the experts thought he might be ready.
How did that decision work out for Tiger Woods? abfos, if you do not follow golf, TW is now considered the greatest golfer all-time or the second greatest all-time depending on who you talk to.
TW was ready to compete at a high level at age 20. At the age of 45 Sarah Palin is in the same situation. She is a superstar. Sarah is ready to take off now. In 2011 she will be a bird in full flight. Waiting until 2016 and 2020 would be a travesty.
I'd love to see Governor Palin take the sleeves of the pastel pink sweater neatly tied around the neck of a Romney stooge, and tug those sleeves just a little tighter on that pencil neck of his.
On the other hand, maybe that is why all of them want to remain anonymous.
jimr3:
What these type of analyses fail to take into account is Sarah's improved performance potential in 2011-2012 after she gets her ducks in a row, does her homework and hones her skills and the politcal landscape in 2012.
That's like in 1997 golf experts projecting that Tiger Woods might win at most 8 majors in his career based on the fact that nobody had won more than 8 majors since Gary Player in 1978.
By the way TW has won 14 majors and counting.
tecno 3:35 - I agree. These other GOPers do not understand . We are not Clintonites that get in line when our candidate it destroyed. We will go with 3rd party candidates. I repeat we will go with 3rd party candidates.
If there were that many Romney people in the McCain camp it is most likely they caused him to lose on purpose.
RINO-hunter, June 30, 2009 3:26 PM
"BTW, it's not a done deal. If Coleman appeals and it goes to SCOTUS, Coleman will win so long as the equal-protection argument is made and the Bush v. Gore precedent is followed. So go suck on that."
Hey RINO-hunter.
It is you who now gets to suck on this.
Update 1:02PM, from Coleman's press conference: "We have reached the point where future litigation damages our state....I congratulate Al Franken on his victory."
Them's the fastest eated words I've seen in some time.
I think a lot of them keep looking at Gov. Palin's young age and figure that she has plenty of time and should wait her turn.
techno,
As far as I know, this is the first admission by a mainstream conservative organization such as the NRO that Sarah could in fact win the GOP nomination in 2012. I don't think I have seen or ever read anything like that before. I find this to be fascinating. Or am I reading to much into Geraghty's statement. What is your take?
Jean A:
Success= preparation + opportunity
Sarah has been given the opportunity by McCain and she now has two years to build on her superatar talents to prepare for the primaries. After that SUCCESS is just a matter of steady execution.
If you knew you had to sink a putt to keep from losing who would you rather see over that putt?
Answer: Tiger Woods
If you could choose one GOP current politician to bring off continual fiery and inspirational performances during the primary debates and in so doing galvanize the entire country who would that be?
Answer: Sarah Palin
The defense rests!
But what these clowns don't understand is that they are going about it the wrong way. They think that if they keep trashing her that she is going to retreat.
Someone should tell these fools it has been 8 months and is hasn't worked.
Who cares what a left wing liberal hit man writes. Left wing liberal should be all you need to know.
is = it
abfos,
Please don't feel like we've attacked your opinion re: running in 2012; this is a very big bone of contention among us C4P-ers. I myself waffle between 2012 and 2016, mostly based on whether or not I think Palin should run for re-election in 2010 (another large bone of contention around here). Thanks for your meaningful contributions.
JeanA et al,
re: the McCain staffers, what do they actually do now? Do they have a job? If not, are they independently wealthy? If so, why are they worried about a job with Romney for 2012?
Are they young? old? RINO's?
I really hate those weasals, just wondering what they all do between elections (besides cry over the milk they spilled).
jimr3:
Geraghty is just a little more forthcoming than other pundits because quite simply they are not keep abreast of or attuned daily to the goings-on of Sarah Palin as we are on C4P and still have a shadow of a doubt that Sarah will run in 2012.
Regardless of what we at C4P may think of the biases of many pundits, they, for the most part, are not stupid. They have full access to the recent polls and unlike civilians like us have some inside knowledge of WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON BEHIND THE SCENES in relation to Presidential hopes and strategies.
I love the post by Rusty (top 100 posts), in which he outlines with clarity how politics really works in Washington, that there are no secrets.
jimr3: no secrets yes: bias, subterfuge and distortion: absolutely
jimr3: I try to see the world objectively and you know I am 'it is what it is' type of person. The truth sometimes hurt, but so be it.
In this case I again will assert that I am 95% confident will run for the Presidency in 2012, barring a Palin family or health issue, and I am fairly confident that Sarah Palin will not run for re-election, the reasons can be found in the many posts I have offered on the subject for the last 4 months.
Remember jimr3 as Rush Limbaugh says, "The pioneers take the arrows." And I am willing to take the arrows if it means that Obama is ousted in 2012 and the America of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is preserved under the leadership of President Sarah Palin.
jimr3 - I noticed the same thing. Yes Dick Morris called her the front runner, but he is his own man (though my guess he has his pulse on polls). THey are now beginning to give up and just convince her to wait. My thought on that is if she wants to be President it is the dumbest thing she could ever do.
7 years ago who was Barack Obama (a Ill State Legislator), who was GOV Palin (Mayor of Wassilla). 7 Years is an enternity in politics. Heck 3 1/2 years are. She better act while the fires are hot.
"I think a lot of them keep looking at Gov. Palin's young age and figure that she has plenty of time and should wait her turn."
And I think that we desperately need for the real republicans to stop listening to the grey beards and good old boys and other RINOs and work and focus on finding candidates like Sarah Palin to run for offices from President on up to the mayors of small towns.
(In case you need to know to "interpret" my words, I am a 70-plus-year-old WASP male.)
PEC:
Except for me there has been no attention paid to the remark by John Ziegler on his program last week (he is in constant e-mail contact with Palin)that he was still convinced that Palin should wait till 2016 (the MSM were too heavily invested for Obama to lose) but in response to a questioner (I am paraphrasing)he said based on certain answers give in recent interviews he said "Expect a surprise." And he did not make the comment to depress his audience.
So I don't think he was alluding to the possibility of Palin waiting till 2020 or 2024 to run so the only possibility would be 2012. He also referred to the comment that Palin made to Lauer that 'she does not need a title' to be a prominent spokesperson in the GOP.
Ziegler, like all other pundits is not stupid. He is beginning to read the tea leaves just like you and I are.
bitterclinger,
Yeah, Todd Purdum, didn't have to leave the house to write his hit piece, The White House!:)
Here's the youtube clip in where former McCain aides discuss the hit piece.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4ZYw6B3ltU
techno - Will she win in '12 I don't know, will she run at all I don't know. I know this she is the only one that will fire sabots at Obama. That tells me she is gunning for him.
Way back when, when it was Obama Clinton I remember the talk of should Obama drop out because he has plenty of time. I said no (no I do not like him but just a fact) he doesn't know who is on the horizon in 4 or 8 years. Who knows there may be a hot new Sen. Congressman, Mayor etc pop out of nowhere and she is in big trouble. As of right now '12 is Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs on the Republican side. Win the GOP and see what happens from there.
Does anyone else think these journalists are like Wile E. Coyote, sending away for their "degrees" from the ACME degree company?
Their degrees don't mean too much when we've got a whole slew of writers here at C4P, that blow them away daily at getting the fact checked, sourced, intelligent story about Governor Palin.
Oh, MR Recher was loud and clear and I think he needs to be pressed for names. Welch defended strong but had outs. If Recher will start naming names Palin may put him back on the team. For now none of them will be on the team.
Well, Wile E. doesn't ever actually do any damage, does he--except to himself?
First of all, I now an a monthly donor to SarahPac, thank you Todd Purdum.
Secondly, the obvious question:
When can we expect a similar hit piece on Obama, seeing as he's the actual president and all, hmmmmmm?
John, I can answer your question. Sarah's followers love her because they see themselves in her. She knows little about national or world affairs and is proud of it. Like them, she has contempt for anyone who is educated or well traveled. She has a vision of an America ruled by Old Testament laws. She is doing her part to contribute to the overpopulation of the planet, and she really, really hates black people.
That, and they are lousy judges of character.
The Washington Post's Amanda Carpenter (add her to the list of warriors now speaking out - Billy Kristol and SE Cupp) reports that "Three McCain staffers, however, were immediately willing to go on the record with the Washington Times in their support for Mrs. Palin after the Vanity Fair piece was published online."
That's 3 McCain staffers in support of Palin and 0 against her. Who are these fictional people that Vanity Fair is basing a story on? Apparently, noone has the guts to come out and support the anonymous statements from McCain campaign staff that this long exhausting piece of yellow journalism seems to rely on. Either that, or the just don't exist at all.
As the day goes on and I scour the blogosphere, Palin's army is once again winning another battle against the smear campaign. I said we could neutralize it. I also said it is never going to go away.
It's a pleasure to be part of movement with the support of the likes of Bill Kristol, Amanda Carpenter and SE Cupp.
Battle on, Palin warriors and ordinary barbarians! We're winning again.
PEC:
THIS TELLS ME SHE IS GUNNING FOR HIM (OBAMA)
This theme has been played out in different movies but the one movie that comes to mind is Underworld USA where Tolly Devlin (played by Cliff Robertson)witnesses his father's murder and vows to kill the 3 murderers when he grows up. To make a long story short he becomes a bad guy and gets in with the gang of crooks who were responsible for his father's death and one by one he eliminates the assassins.
Sarah Palin may not want to admit it to anybody but she is mad as hell how she was treated and made to look like a fool by the Obama war room and its use of Alinsky tactics as revealed in Media Malpractice, she is livid how the nutroots and the filth on the Far Left tried to exploit her children for political purposes, she is mad as hell that Obama won by lying about his roots to ACORN and Marxism, his ties to Ayres, Wright etc and about his radical agenda and she is mad as hell that the American way of life is being literally destroyed by the Messiah.
Like Tolly Devlin she will lie in wait but one day she will get her revenge against Obama and the Far Left. 2012 cannot for her come soon enough. Payback time!
And a great job by R.A. Mansour and Joseph Russo. We are going to prevail again.
Hey "Vanity Unfair:" Read it and weap. That part about Palin going up against Letterman is what turned this thing around, idiots. Palin spoke and now her army is mobilized and ready for battle!
First rule of a good lie: Start it off with a pinch of truth.
The first sentence of the article starts with a lie it seems Mr Purdum has forgotten this rule. He did however finish it off with the truth. Her ship is just coming in!
Don't get me wrong, I am very torn on this subject. I WANT Sarah Palin and other like-minded genuine American conservatives to run, run, run for everything...NOW. In fact, I am considering running for City Council.
However, I do not want to risk losing the amazing talent of Sarah Palin. She is wonderful, but not perfect. She is very good on Alaska issues and general conservative issues, but the specifics of national policy are not a cakewalk. She has already proven she can handle it, but she needs a record to run on. She is already well on her way to compiling one of the greatest records of fiscal conservative reform that a governor has ever had. But my response to the attacks of liberals is: We have to be better than them. I want Sarah Palin to (easily) win reelection in Alaska to prove the naysayers wrong, then continue to show the country what real leadership can do at the state level.
The other side of me agrees with what has been said here already: She has the base, the nomination is hers for the taking. Then how in the world can she lose? This country will be crying out for change and common sense by election day 2012. Who better to usher in that change than Sarah Palin?
I AM TORN. I want to see Gov. Palin out there on national issues more to see if she is ready for 2012. She has done really well lately, but she has to get away from these issues that invoke purely emotional responses and focus on the issues that will get her elected POTUS.
My other problem? If not Sarah in 2012, I'm not sure who else I could support. I was a Fred Thompson man in 2008, but I don't see anybody besides Sarah that I could wholeheartedly support in 2012. I look forward to the numbers tommorrow from SarahPAC...
Hey folks!
Time to put the weak McCain 2008 campaign 6 feet under. The time he went against the Republican base not attacking Obama and his associations, giving up Michigan and saying an Obama's presidency is not dangerous it was when his campaign lost.
Let's start a new beginning.
Let's have Reagan(Sarah) take care of Carter(Hussein Obama).
Larry Sheldon,
It's a fun little picture to think of them opening up that Inauguration Day 2013 story, with their hair sticking up all over, soot all over their faces, tears in their clothes, looking dazed.
President Palin is going to do that to alot of people.:)
midnightcajun said:
I'm a great judge of character that's why I love David Letterman, Bill Maher, people that make evil pictures of innocent children, and other characters too numerous to mention.

How racist of you only to mention white people midnightcajun likes. RAAACIST I tell you! And I'm sure you were thinking anti semitic thoughts while writing it.

Indeed. It is.
But it isn't going to happen if we continue to let the Democrat, RINOs, and other wrong-headed folls call the tune.
We don't need them.
We can call the tune, and pay the fiddler and all.
Let them try to catch up o us, get on our bandwagon.
I especially don't care what the McCain staff does or says (or did or said).
Maybe we owe them for bringing Palin to our attention--I don't know about that.
alwaysfiredup,
LOL! I hadn't even realized it! I need to visit some lefty sites to get indoctrinated into that thought process. People must be put into groups, not just looking at each individual, and treating everyone equally.
I just put a donation in the mail to SarahPAC.
Larry Sheldon,
Great comment. I totally agree. She is going to be unconventional to what the elite RINOs believe is the "right" way to go about running for national office.
God has a plan for Governor Palin and I believe the first step in that plan was bringing her to onto the national stage. That was the first and last right move the McCain camp made during the campaign.
She should not ever give any of these people the time of day. Ever.
And my elderly mom, who never voted for a Republican in her life until Sarah Palin came along.....and who voted the entire GOP ticket because of Palin, also just sent a donation to SarahPAC.
techno.
I agree with the spirit of your post at 5:43 that SP is "mad as hell"
But I would characterize it differently because "mad as hell" implies (at least to me) a jettisoning somewhat of reason. Also you say she is "livid".
I think it is better characterized as Sarah Palin effect # 2:
>>Stand on principle.
Also, you say
>>she will lie in wait
- she is not lying in wait ! As far as I can tell, she's got guns blazing !
Again, I don't think the characterization is best presented as
>>revenge against Obama and the Far Left.
She is not out for revenge. It is simply
# 2: Stand on Principle.
Amanda Carpenter updated her story now with 3 McCain staffers who support Governor Palin.
AmandaCarpenter's Tweet
Another McCain staffer supports Palin. I have 3 on the record for her. How many does VF have onrecord against her? http://tinyurl.com/mvna6z
This 3rd staffer is Randy Scheunemann. He has always had the Guv's back and said great things about her.
Bill in Baltimore:
Lets say that something is festering inside Sarah.
But to your point that Sarah is lying in wait I think I am more accurate to date. Sarah has not really taken the fight to the Messiah as we know she can. In the 2011 primaries I will agree with you: she will have 'got her guns blazing' by then.
By the way, mad as hell to me signifies a deep resentment or profound objection to circumstances in which part of the problem is being taken advantage of or feeling guilty that you did not respond better; when I use this phrase I am referring more to the circumstance that caused this reaction and not to an emotional state of mind,
If Sarah Palin is mad as hell as I believe she has every right to be, I see her not going off half-cocked but on the contrary deliberately planning the ways and means of taking Obama down.
Beehive @ 6:28,
Saw that. Very nice comments from Randy Scheunemann.
JR should update the post to show Scheunemann's quotes.
I'm a 24 year old conservative and my first political donation was to Marco Rubio early this year (I live in Michigan). My second ever goes to SarahPac.
This may have already been posted, but it is the article by Amanda Carpenter quoting McCain staffers defending Sarah.
http://washingtontimes.com/weblogs/back-story/2009/jun/30/mccain-staffers-push-back-on-vanity-fairs-palin-pr/
They are going to be talking about this hit piece on Hannity tonight.
McCain staffers? got the names and will remember them.
McCain staffers whose loyalties were with Romney:
Tucker Eskew, Nicole Wallace, John Feehery, Carl Forti, Kevin Madden, Michelle Laxalt, Joe Pounder and Joe Gray, Rob Gray, Steve Schmidt.
Can you imagine if McCain was dumb enough to pick Romney? What undermining would have gone on their?
McCain did ONE good thing. Picked Palin (A/K/A 'Romneys' roadblock').
I know that the Laxalt babe is Paul Laxalts' daughter (Ronald Reagan confidante) and I bet if the truth were told Nancy Reagan and the Bush family ARE NOT PALIN FANS. Anyone that has the potential to not play the game in D.C. is a threat to them. If she does seriously become a candidate ALL HELL will break loose so much so that it will make Troopergate/Trig/Bristol/Levi/Letterman look like a spring day in Paris.
GIRD LOINS (pay no attention to the trolls/gnats).
1-20-13, hope for change and pray for roadblocks for BHO until noon on that day!!!
I think Gov. Palin is doing the right thing by not commenting on this latest hit job by a left wing liberal kook.
Lets see how many people come to her defense.
It was a different story with Letterman. What mother would not defend her children.
Ah, the dead hand of the Saruman the White of the Republican Party, Mitt Romney. This entire article is as clumsy as it is transparent and full of half-truths.
You half wonder why the Clydes over at NRO haven't picked up on what Mittens is doing, but most of them really don't want to believe that he'd have anything to do with the sourcing behind this hit piece. But it's his people, mostly.
It's also people from the galactically incompetent Bushie wing of the party. The ones who drove the party into the ground in '06 and '08. For some reason, the Bush White House always thought of Mittens as Bush's heir. That speaks volumes about Mittens.
Forget McCain, he probably doesn't know what's going on and didn't have anything to do with this. In fact, I fully expect Sarah to campaign for him-she appears to adore him so much. McCain lifted Palin out of obscurity: he can do no wrong in her eyes.
Palin will do fine. The more the MSM attack her, the more money she raises from Republicans and independents who are wondering why this woman is being attacked all the time. When she goes on the attack and starts campaigning for congressmen next summer, Katie bar the door.
Behold what Democrats haven't realized yet: Sarah Palin is the Bill Clinton of the Republican Party. The more you attack her, the stronger she comes back, only quicker and better.
The swine who contributed to Purdim's article? Knaves, the lot of them, deserving only of existences which are solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short.
midnightcajun, June 30, 2009 5:32 PM
"John, I can answer your question. Sarah's followers love her because they see themselves in her. She knows little about national or world affairs and is proud of it. Like them, she has contempt for anyone who is educated or well traveled. She has a vision of an America ruled by Old Testament laws. She is doing her part to contribute to the overpopulation of the planet, and she really, really hates black people."
"That, and they are lousy judges of character."
Thank you, midnightcajun. I think you nailed it. And very witty.
I hope you don't mind me using it on the golf course as a few of the birdbrains in my golfing group are Palin supporters.
It was so sweet after Palinn was selected and Limbaugh, Hannity, and the other wingnut gasbags said the liberals were in fear. And my buddies were touting that BS all the way. And then to watch Palin self destruct in her ignorance made my year. Hell it made my 10 years.
What if it turns out that Sarah Palin is a Professional, with the governance if the largest state in the Union (know that laid out over the lower 48, Southeast would be in Mississippi or Georgia, and Atka would be in Baja someplace (and Atka is as far from Juneau as Los Angeles is from Atlanta). The state spans, what, 4 time zones?
What if she though it was more important to do the job she agreed to do, instead of running for the next one.
Beehive @ 7:32,
Hopefully, Hannity will have Amanda Carpenter on to talk about this or better yet, some of the staffers that have spoken out in Sarah's defense.
Sorry to be off topic but I feel this important to post on every thread:
Rush Limbaugh today on his radio program proposed that Obama will try to serve beyond 2016 by orchestrating the repeal of the 22nd Amendment or through another means through ACORN, his cult-like followers etc.
Rush finishes: "Anybody who thinks that Obama is going constitutionally away after 2016 is nuts."
And remember rush is the de facto leader of the conservative movement and he is NOT stupid, deranged or a tin-foiler. And he is right 99.1% of the time.
They're going to talk about this on O'Reilly tonight. Well, his show.
I lost a comment somewhere. Sorry if this shows up again.
Rush finishes: "Anybody who thinks that Obama is going constitutionally away after 2016 is nuts."
I don't mean to be one-upping anybody, but I think I can show where I said this repeatedly before January. Said it on line at various blogs.
Getting the Supreme Court fixed is step one. (see a veterinary blog for the sense of "fixed".)
HA has a thread up now.
WE HAVE GOT TO STOP WAITING FOR SOMEBODY ELSE TO STAND UP.
Rino-hunter,
I concur. If Romney gets it, I may (gasp!) vote for Obama.
Better to have a straight-up creep than a behind-your-back creep.
And that post-partum thing was sick and hillarious. I mean, if there was one thing Palin was during the campaign it was depressed, right?
http://suburban.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8341d191e53ef010535d72cff970c-400wi
AHHHHHH!
The sweet sulfury smell of a spent cap gun blast.
This article is glorious proof that the media is now fighting their war on Palin with blanks. They couldn't even come up with any new half-truths to twist.
Having received the go-ahead from congress, our no-holds-barred war on the RomneyBots can officially begin.....NOW!
John, are you ever going to answer the questions I asked you above, or are you just going to troll here?
$50 to SarahPAC. Thanks Todd, John and Midnight Cajun.
ShermanCT,
Re: Monica Crowley sub'ing on Fox and doing nothing to diffuse the legitimacy of the Vanity Fair hit piece on SP
It's great having Fox, but they have the infuriating technique of being "fair and balanced" - equal time to truth and lies and "we decide", the moral equivalence lie.
They act like truth is evasive and we'll only know what to do by taking a poll.
e-mail works, Monica needs to get a full inbox . . .
Maybe she could have talked to him? Or any of her people? But, they refused to and then whine about the article. So typical of woman who combines the worst traits of Nixon with the only traits of W. Just embarrassing you people are this silly.
Go over to Ace's http://ace.mu.nu/, they've got that quote up from President Arrogant about how he just KNEW Sarah couldn't be up to his level since he had a four-month head start on her. Ugh!
Comment now!
This really has Romney's finger prints all over it. The sources had to be unnamed. Otherwise, the connection to Mitt is seen.
The hit also coincides with the flurry of Romney activity. The Politico puff piece, Romney doing a Sunday show, and Romney's team announcing that they are ready for the call.
Finally, remember Romney's go negative MO in 2008.
What's up? Is Sarahpac scaring him?
BTW, I owe Nicole Wallace an apology. She stood tall today.
Allah @ Hot Air has is take on the VF hit piece.
In part: "I actually do hope she runs. The more I think about it, the more fascinating a Romney/Palin showdown in the primaries seems. She’ll have evangelicals and talk radio on her side; he’ll have moderates and, in all likelihood, superior organization. You can imagine Iowa breaking for her, New Hampshire breaking for him, and then war in South Carolina and Florida."
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/06/30/video-vanity-fair-author-defends-palin-hit-piece/
OK I saw the Nicole Wallace and McKinnon. I trust them as far as I can throw them. Notice Nicole didn't say she wasn't a leaker she just brought up the clothes.
I think one of three things is happening.
1. They are scared that Sarah is tired of this crap will stop biting her tongue, as for names find out who the leakers are and call them out face to face (doubtful I think Sarah is not even going to talk about this one).
2. They know SARAHPAC has good #s and fear it will give her a boost and they are trying to weasel their way back in (possible).
3. Poll #s are coming out and the more Sarah is attacked now the more her support is going up as people are tired of the dumb stuff. THey fear too many are catching on that they are the leakers and their name is becoming mud amongst the base. (likely)
Pec:
Good analysis. The Wallace, McKinnon, Todd piece was different from the usual MSNBC drivel.
Allah @ Hot Air now has a post up on the Politico article.
"Civil war"
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/06/30/quote-of-the-day-521/
I am not a fan of Politico but everybody needs to go there and read the implosion of the McCain Camp eilitist insiders. They are pointing fingers at each other. It is comical. Bottomline they know in their profession once discovered as a leaker you are done. My guess is most if not all of them are guilty. It is just getting funny.
Looking at Politico they talk Palin with mental disorder it appears these losers have the mental disorder.
If there is any doubt why McCain loss just look at the implosion. GOV Palin doesn't need to say a word.
IT'S WAR!
Fort Sumter has been attacked and the battle for the soul of the Republican party has begun. YaaaaHoooo!
Wow, and they wonder why she looked around before that debate and turned and smiled at Piper, Will you pray with me, sweetheart?
If she asked one of these people to pray with her, they would have chalked it up to her mental disorder.
These people are precious.
Went to politico and tried to figure out which pile of dung y'all wanted me to look at.
OMG where are the hit pieces about the bunch of nuts that ran McCain's campaign. It would take them months to dissect and figure out that wrecking crew. The liberal MSM better wake up and smell the coffer on this one because the losers are in Washington and not Alaska. Maybe this hit piece was a good thing.
Randy is fine and has been supporting Sarah through the campaign, one reason why he was Schmidt and his gang removed him from his place by conspiring against him.
No matter how many good thing Wallace says, she is still a suspect in my books. Mckinnon is such a doozy. Anybody who doesn't have the gut to take on Obama doesn't need to be in our circle, whether he talked to the press or not.
A mental problem? Why is it Governor Palin gave her heart and soul to win and all she gets for her trouble is backstabbing?
I wonder if Gov. Palin is sitting back in Alaska and laughing her head off because I am.
A head piece that said nothing new and it is generating all this attention means something else is going on.
Come on wondering minds figure this one out.
head = hit
You know, I don't think I can blame Romneybots for all this. It's too much. This VF piece is EVERYWHERE. Why would a 10,000 word essay on a failed VP candidate 8 months after the election be everywhere? Who has so much power over the media that they can get everyone to pay attention to the same rehashed story? Answer: Obama Administration.
No one who wants to push a meme does so directly. They've all got to push it with proxies. Carville and Axelrod are using Romneybots in conservative news as proxies and the lib SRM prints whatever they want anyway. Carville was the one who a while back said he wanted at least one big Palin hit piece a month in the news to marginalize her. He's getting what he wants.
No major media outlet backs her. Libs back Obama, Cons back Mittens. I wish this could change but it isn't. What we need is some enterprising blogger who wants to create the next (sane) Huffington Post out of widespread consumer dissatisfaction with what passes for media these days. I nominate RAM for the project (but the site prob doesn't need "Palin" in the title :) ).
"head = hit"
I think you had it right the first time.
See "head fake"
Rusty has a good take on this VF story posted under Open thread.
Obama owns the media... totally inside job in regard to the major publicity before the release. Sarah should just come out now and say shes running.... It would throw Obama totally off keel and save America.
Guys, is it possible that Schmidt was the guy who leaked the wardrobe thingy to Politico? Wallace denied it and she seems to be serene regarding Palin. Now we know Schmidt was badmouthing governor and we also know he's trying to rake up this nonsenses against her, so its possible that he was behind all the crap that was thrown at her.
no one replied to my query earlier, who are these guys anyway on McCain's campaign team?
Do they have jobs now? Independently wealthy? sitting around waiting for Mittens to call?
Just curious.
Yoiung-4-Eyes, Sarah was no shot in the dark. We all knew she was the ultimate candidate to be on the ticket and when it was announced it was no surprise. Mccain chose the best candidate there is.
lol @ y4e
HE sought HER out
and you say he attracted her
Looks like you're the tard that doesn't get it.
In this piece, Governor Palin's opponents have overeached, much in the manner of Lettermann. It was so over-the-top that even Democrats will start to see.
The smackdown of Purdum by Bill Clinton should be front and centre to our response, as I am sure it will be with the Hillbuz people.
joe scabcrow on msnbc trashing sarah at every oppurtunity with the not-ready-for prime-time meme.
Conservative? What a piece of work.
One observation about Sarah Palin that sticks deep inside like a dagger: Palin fits the description of an NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) to a tee. This fact, which should frighten the bejesus out of everyone, is also the one that Kristol fears most, as its the first one he trots out and dismisses not at all convincingly:
"Is there any real chance that "several" Alaskans independently told Purdum that they had consulted the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders? I don’t believe it for a moment. I’ve (for better or worse) moved in pretty well-educated circles in my life, and I’ve gone decades without “several” people telling me they had consulted the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders."
Anyone with enough experience in life has encountered dangerous people like NPD narcissists and ASPD sociopaths -- Palin's documented behavior closely fits both diagnoses, which often run in tandem.
For a partisan Democratic example, just look at Jonathan Edwards, another pol who fits NPD traits to a tee (http://www.slate.com/id/2213740):
"John Edwards outed himself as one when forced to confess an adulterous affair. (Given his comical vanity, the deceitful way he used his marriage for his advancement, and his self-elevation as an embodiment of the common man while living in a house the size of an arena, it sounds like a pretty good diagnosis.)"
Palin is very probably NPD, and maybe ASPD too (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASPD). Based on this alone, her political career should be dead, no matter what people think of her actual politics.
