There's a long ways to go until 2012 but, in my opinion, I don't think Sarah has decided to run for President ....... yet.

I believe the nomination is hers if she goes after it but that is by no means certain.

If she gets nominated and loses to Big O, she's done forever.

She is going to take very careful steps down the road toward '12 because she can't take a loss. If it looks like she would lose the nomination or if it appears that Obama will be re-elected, she'll pull back and wait for an all-out assault in '16.

I think the economy and Obama's radical agenda will doom his chances and I still think some of the mud slung at Palin will be proved to have come from the Obama folks. I believe Palin can and will be elected in '12 but there are many miles to be covered yet.

I was indeed surprised by Luntz's grade to Sarah of A- for her farewell speech, its really good, taped it so that I would be able to play it over and over , that blew me away, as I do not recall many times that he has spoke positively of her.

Sarah 2012!

Lakerfanalways July 27, 2009 10:10 PM

She has to continue to speak directly to the people. Go AROUND the media, just like Reagan did, if I could talk to Sarah that is EXACTLY what I would tell her to do. Damn, if I could only talk to her for 5 minutes. I would give her some kick ass advice. Go to the 9-12 Tea party, speak out against Obama and his policies, I'm telling ya, if she does that, if she gives speeches like she did last night, her poll numbers will SKYROCKET

Ronnie July 27, 2009 10:13 PM

Sarah...the REAL deal.

Mountain Mama July 27, 2009 10:14 PM

No, Sarah will play it cool and wait to see if 2012 is THE race to enter, or the next one.

I posted this on an earlier thread: I think the Obamas' secret weapon will be Michelle's getting pregnant at some oh-so-perfect moment during this administration.

THINK of the showers, the articles the MSM will write, fawning over them: it's a perfect way to win the hearts of the same Americans who didn't READ about him enough to realize who the heck they were voting into office!

Ack...

Ceejay July 27, 2009 10:16 PM

Oh.....just a FYI, got a mail piece today from RFK Jr. and he was dissing Sarah all over the place, " protect the polar bears" sending it back with no donation , but with a note that I gave to SarahPac!!!

How did I get a mailing from him anyway.

Disgusting put down on Sarah!

Sarah 2012!

Dan C July 27, 2009 10:18 PM

I agree, I do not think Sarah has decided to run for potus yet. She will see how it goes and if it looks like a good time for it, she will go for it! If not, then there is plenty of time as she is young enough to run in 2016, 2020, or even beyond.

The Tea Party people are Patriots from all parties a good fit for Sarah.
I said on another post Luntz made note of Sarah's powerful phrases to keep using.

techno July 27, 2009 10:22 PM

I am in the minority but I would put this speech behind her Evansville speech and her convention speech.

However if folks had not seen the Evansville speech or had forgotten how powerful the convention speech was I can understand how Sarah could have blown them away in this speech.

95% of the time superatars rise to the occasion; they very rarely let you down.

Think of Tonya Harding and the kneecaping of Nancy Kerrigan when you think of Obama's war room never-ending desire to take Sarah out of the game.

MarkRNY July 27, 2009 10:22 PM

I'm tired of having to wonder how these Fox guests are going to come down. I'm glad that Luntz liked it, but who the hell is he to give it a "grade".

I give it an A+ Luntz and I don't give a damn if I'm not an "Expert" with dials and bells and whistles!

Now we have to wait and see how Greta's guest reacts. I really only care how Greta reacts. She's good to have in your corner.

They can stick their fricken poll too!

Al B. July 27, 2009 10:25 PM

She wrote this speech herself, Techno. The text reads even better than the delivered speech.

I agree though, in terms of delivery and content, that convention speech was the one.

techno July 27, 2009 10:25 PM

Mountain Mama:

As always you are so creative. I was thinking of Obama orchestrating a major foreign crisis or inviting a terrorist attack on America to stop his falling poll numbers and get back in the good graces of the public.

I know this sounds harsh but after the financial meltdown I wouldn't discount anything and I mean anything.

tim c July 27, 2009 10:26 PM

I think that after the book tour and the 2010 elections Sarah will be able to take stock of the situation and make the right decision. It's only 15 months away and a lot can happen because we're driving the bus!

Wildman Bill July 27, 2009 10:30 PM

Sarah needs to use Frank Luntz. we may disagree with him sometimes but he is a genius with "words that work". I dont want to "focus group" every thing Sarah says because I love her off the cuff just as much as a prepared speech.
However, Frank knows what phrases work with conservatives and conservative democrats and independents.

techno July 27, 2009 10:30 PM

Al B:

On the open thread I extracted various excerpts to show what potential themes that Sarah may explore over the next 3 years.

I thought she hit Obama much harder in the Evansville speech (yes it was longer)and her farewell speech was not designed to do that but fortunately for those not exposed to the real smart, eloquent Sarah, this speech may have tipped the balance in her favor.

As for me personally I love it when Sarah tear a strip off Obama and draws blood. He deserves it for what he has done to America.

tim c July 27, 2009 10:36 PM

This speech was a good bye and thank you to Alaska, with just a few sprinkles of what is to come.the shredding of obama comes later.

techno July 27, 2009 10:37 PM

Wildman Bill:

The overriding issue among C4P posters and Sarah supporters always is: How scripted should Sarah become in her speeches in terms of finding favor with certain political groups if it means taking away Sarah's natural eloquence and syntax and sounding more artificial?

This is not as easy as you may think it is.

tencole July 27, 2009 10:38 PM

techno,
I put the Indiana speech first...moved me to tears.
then the convention speech with this one a close third..

can't wait to hear more!

GoneWithTheRINO July 27, 2009 10:41 PM

So what did Greta say?

I had to laugh at Chris Matthews tonight. When someone asked him why the media was so obsessed with Sarah, he said, "She's the only Republican who interests me! Who else am I going to talk about...Mitt Romney?" Then he went on to compare Romney to lead paint. LOL

I am experiencing Palin twitter withdrawl :(

Stephanie July 27, 2009 10:48 PM

@Wildman Bill

Why does she need Luntz? Even he said that she was starting to understand her power & the power of words. She wrote the speech herself. For him to give her an A-when we know he tends left says it all.

BO never wrote a speech himself in his life. Hell, when he speaks freely & off the cuff he opens mouth inserting both feet.

For now, I say "Have at it, Ms. Sarah, you know exactly what you're doing, and I've got your back all the way!"

MarkRNY July 27, 2009 10:49 PM

Hit the bricks Carlson. What a beltway moron.

His reasoning as to why "she won't run" is exactly why everyone who supports her wants her to run!

His worldview is kiss the media's ass or you're finished and Obama's unbeatable. What a joke. Everyone I know's calling O "One Term", and the media's going down with him.

It's like they have one collective mind, all stuck in the same box!

Go back to CNN Tuck.

Stephanie July 27, 2009 10:51 PM

@defendAmerica

You can take the red pill or the blue pill. Not sure which one will kill you though!

GoneWithTheRINO July 27, 2009 10:51 PM

Was Greta acting the same way? Or did she smack Tucker down?

Greg July 27, 2009 10:53 PM

Just saw Tucker Carlson on Greta's show, he was impressed with her and her speech. Carlson went on to say that he doesn't think Palin is positioning herself for a presidential run, but to be the leader of the anti-0bama anti-elitist movement. He pointed out that other politicians may take a shot at the media once in awhile, but he's never seen anyone go after then as hard as Palin does.

defendAmerica July 27, 2009 10:54 PM

LOL Stephanie.

As a prescriber that statement is totally hysterical. Truth is Obama thinks that if I don't pick the pill that's willing to negotiate a cheaper price with the Feds, then I must be looking for nothing but personal financial gain. WHATEVER!

Wildman Bill July 27, 2009 10:56 PM

Sorry, but Luntz doesnt tilt to the left.
remember he was saying after the VP debate that Sarah had won against Biden. which we all knew.
The man has made a living with his "dial groups". He knows the what words and phrases works.
Dont shoot the messenger here.
All you had to see was Luntz on Bill Maher years ago and you would know he tilts to the right for sure.
He just isnt a tool for any politician and I like that.

MarkRNY July 27, 2009 10:58 PM

She didn't come down one way or the other. She did ask him if the media liking her is necessary. That's about it RINO.

He was condescedingly nice and gave her good grades as an orator...in her little way, etc. He conceded that she evokes strong emotions. Deep thinker there Tuck. I hadn't noticed.

Chris Matthews himself said it! He basically said the media couldn't stop talking about Sarah Palin, because she's the only interesting Republican out there. Then he said, "Who else am I going to talk about....Mitt Romney?" He went on to compare Romeny to lead paint.

GoneWithTheRINO July 27, 2009 11:00 PM

@MarkRNY - thanks for the update!

Sheya July 27, 2009 11:00 PM

Tucker Carlson goes on the record discuses Palin Future.
Says: Sarah Palin is not at all stupid. Is a great Orator, has a finger on a certain pulse. (Referring to Carl Bernstein) he says, the biggest flake in television called her a flake. Thinks Sarah wants to be the leader of the anti-Obama movement. Doesn’t strike him as a person who is running for president, doesn’t think she’s running but says he could be wrong.

Bear in mind Tucker works with conventional wisdom so he can’t figure out Sarah. Luntz Thinks She is running. Believe whom you will.

Will have video up in 10 Minutes

Juls July 27, 2009 11:04 PM

I'm truly heartened that Frank approves of Governor Palin's ALLITERATION! Also very glad she has his STAMP of approval this time. And as long as we're handing out grades, Frank gets a D+ on this exchange. Sean, could you keep him off camera, please?

JohnDoeAt30Below July 27, 2009 11:06 PM

<< [Carlson] pointed out that other politicians may take a shot at the media once in awhile, but he's never seen anyone go after then as hard as Palin does. >>

That's because other politicians are scared of the media - if they "take a shot" at the media, they'll get attacked.

How much more can they do to Palin?

Mountain Mama -- no way. Obama wrote that Michelle gets angry at him after giving birth, remember? The DNC would kill him if he brought back angry Michelle in place of Fashion Icon Barbie, with an election looming ahead. If angry Michelle ever got loose again, she'd be the ruination of them.

More hard hitting news from NBC:

From NBC's Norah O'Donnell
Sarah Palin not only left her perch in the governor's office; she also left behind her husband Todd after yesterday's ceremony in Fairbanks.

After swearing in the new governor, Palin made a quick exit with daughter Piper and son Trigg in tow. She jumped in a Chevy Silverado twin cab driven by her security detail.

Todd Palin followed just seconds behind, and was left struggling to avoid a phalanx of cameras. The problem: His family had already left.

After reviewing our camera tape, you can hear someone ask, "No car for Todd?" Then Todd, the former First Dude, laughs and says, "They left me."

MarkRNY July 27, 2009 11:09 PM

Sheya,

I thought he was condescending as hell. Maybe I'm overreacting, but he made her sound more like a "Star" then someone to take seriously--someone who might even excite "those crazy Conservatives".

The giveaway line with Carlson was "I think 2012 will be a tough year for Republicans anyway". He's still smitten!

I guess on the bright side, that he had anything good to say shows how great shhe did.

New to this. Had to comment. I read lots of enthusiasm for 2012. The real game is the 2010 congressional elections. Focus on 2010 and tipping the House to GOP. Focus on Pelosi/Reid and individual races. Too much focus on O, if successful, will be too early too do much good, and will result in accusations of racism. Better to be successful at 2010 game change and claim credit. Perfect position for 2012 race.

Sorry..I stand corrected if indeed Luntz leans to the right. I wasn't trying to shoot the messenger. Just saying that I think Sarah does just fine getting her message across. It's my belief that that is what's wrong with most politician's speeches...too scripted trying to appeal to everyone.

Lakerfanalways July 27, 2009 11:36 PM

I seriously need to see that video of Chrissy Matthews say that. I'll see it to believe it. Also, I had no idea that Frank Luntz leans right. He always seemed to be such an Obama kiss asser to me. Also that video of ethicsgate..OMG, I hope someone gets that video to Sarah, she has to see it. It basically confirms what we all already know, Obama has been calling the shots since Day 1

Longish interview with Dan Balz and Scott Conroy about Palin. Fair, not a hit piece.

Scott looks very young, but he's honest and certainly understands Palin. He made an interesting comment at the end: "Palin has the talent to use the media effectively if she wanted".

Maybe, maybe not. But I suspect it is the case myself. She is the most interesting thing in politics, and it could work. I think much of the criticism has become more muted from the MSM now too

A different and refreshing view. Palin has a lot of options to improve her standing in the electorate, many ways to progress. Everything should be on the table: the aim is to win while retaining core values.

Lakerfanalways July 27, 2009 11:48 PM

Gotta love Pat Buchanon. Too bad he can't put a muzzle on his stupid sister of his. She could use a brain transplant. I guess we know who got the brains in that family. Pat is awesome. Love how he shut up that idiot Dem who was debating him. And yeah, Romney is like lead paint

manajordan July 27, 2009 11:57 PM

Today's certainly been an interesting day with some interesting responses to Sarah's speech. This one from Luntz is a pleasant surprise, and I think spot on.

Today I have felt a happy peace, not an overwhelming one, just a reassurance that life is good and though there might be some rough waters ahead, things are gonna be good. I hope the Palin's have that sense times 10 or something. I think The Lord grants us these tender mercies, and helps us remember them in tougher times.

Rock on C4P. God bless.

The Power Of Language...

Frank Luntz said...

Sarah knows... the power of language.

And the "alliteration" (i.e. - the repetition of the same sounds) of "dizzying debt" (DD), as Frank said, is easy to remember and to relate to friends and foes of Sarah while sitting around the kitchen table conducting our own "kitchen talk" sessions.

Thank-you so much, Frank Luntz.

Kodi July 28, 2009 12:30 AM

The speech was good. There was nothing to indicate that it was a great speech to me. Instant Polling was created for people with obsessive concern over what other people think. Palin is the opposite of that ...and it drives some folks crazy.

In general, people get blinded with emotion of a farewell speech. Fair enough. She had some good lines of limited government, freedom to bear arms, etc., that will appeal to middle independents.

It is those independents that she will need, should she decide to seek higher public office. Palin is a fascinating potential presidential candidate. But, if Palin wants to make a credible run, she needs to be able to reassemble the Reagan coalition and bring the conservative Reagan Democrat's and moderates back into the fold.

But first, our focus, and Sarah's focus, should be on 2010. Sarah will now get her book out, go on tour, give speeches and promote conservative principles and 2010 candidates all over this country in the midst of the Obama administration disaster and gain great political capital in the process.

But, Palin MUST draw-in 'less gov't' liberty-loving independents. After all, her most ardent backers will continue to support her no matter what. After she writes her first screed then America will know exactly who Sarah Palin is.

Palin's political instincts have been formidable in the past, and she continues to place her trust in them above all else. But with her line to the media of "quit making things up" and that she would be "exercising my freedom of speech", is there no limit to Palin’s courage?

It sure is better to be the hunter than hunted. Has Palin commented on HR 1207? If not, that’d be a good place to start a grass fire.

sigh....

Just how do we beat Obama with a preggers Michelle Obama? Americans won't want to kick him out of office; they'll feel they should give him another chance (barf, retch).

Tell you what, Techno: if we are hit by terrorists, I bet Americans are going to MISS none other than GW!

And they will suddenly realize how they STUPIDLY voted for a KNOW-NOTHING!

(That's the Adverb of the WEEK!)

Mountain Mama July 28, 2009 1:15 AM

Oh, and Gina----I nearly missed seeing your post about this!

Yeah, I thought Michelle might become Miss Honey-Doll when p.g.----NOT!

But don't you think they could keep Ms. Angry quiet then, as they do now? And never forget that she'd be the CENTER of the world's attention!

Also, Michelle would then have a great excuse for.... oh, whatever shape her body becomes when pregnant....
(which isn't her fault; I'm Sarah's twin, physique-wise, and both of us had a kind of thickening of our necks when we were p.g.----remember? It was visible in Sarah's interview in her home before Trig was born, with "Pipe" and Todd in their kitchen.)

Anyway, I bet Michelle could be silenced effectively. Sad.

My main concern is that Sarah continues to be trashed, not only by liberals, but also by Republicans! WHAT GIVES with them!? Why don't they appreciate her authenticity, her frank honesty, and her savvy insights? And don't they want to win!? Sometimes I wonder....

Mountain Mama July 28, 2009 1:18 AM

wjshipley July 28, 2009 2:08 AM

2010 is the current battle and it must be won. I think that the ability to participate in it is one of the things that led Governor Palin to transfer the governorship early -- she really can do more for the country and Alaska by helping us win the House.

As to her being finished if she runs in 2012 and loses, as JohnDoeAt30Below said at the beginning, I disagree. She's quite young. If she get's the nod in 2012 and loses she could go after Begich's senate seat in 2014 and be positioned for another try in 2016, 2020 or 2024.

TangledThorns July 28, 2009 7:18 AM

Frank Luntz trashed Sarah Palin's resignation speech, glad he turned around on her farewell speech.

LoveThatGirl July 28, 2009 8:56 AM

Sarah is a beautiful person inside and out. She speaks the truth which is so rarely heard these days. Her word is like the handshake that was binding.

With obama speeches you must dig for the little truth from all the lies that are said in his long boring repeated speeches. The eduacatedfools think they are the only ones qualified to govern.

The TRUTH has just been realized, Sarah Palin governed with Wisdom and Truth, with Love for God and Country, she has succeeded because she knows how to govern from the heart For the People.

The educatedfools have proven they canNOT govern For the People, their intentions are exclusively for THEIR OWN SELF INTEREST. They line their pockets, take money from the hard working Americans and continue to keep their constituents in the poor house with welfare. They make the poor feel good by giving them a few morsels all the while they are living the good life, dining all over the world and the hard working American picking up the bill/tab/check.

Yes, Sarah knows how to govern, she has Common Sense, unlike those that only have a educatedfoolsdegree.

God blesss Sarah, Todd and their precious family in the name of Jesus.

P.S.
checkout what the Bible has to say about fools.
God is good all the time :)

Uffda July 29, 2009 2:30 AM

Arrogant cuss. Thinks his stupid face has the right to rate Sarah's speeches. Guy is a talking head who can't get it through his thick skull that Palin was talking to Alaska, not him. All these people that think Palin's an idiot, are themselves idiots. I know Luntz is supposedly a good guy, but he's smug and he bugs me.

Nobody cares what grade he gives Palin. She's the one who'll be handing out the grades soon. Luntz gets a D Minus.
