Free Speech Goes Both Ways: Gov. Palin Has First Amendment Rights Too
Shannyn Moore is once again using Gov. Palin as an excuse to throw herself in front of the cameras.
She is condemning Gov. Palin’s attorney for supposedly violating her First Amendment rights (and on the Fourth of July to boot!) simply because he issued a statement refuting the defamatory rumors Ms. Moore was spreading and warning her to desist from spreading slander or else the Palins "will be exploring legal options this week to address such defamation."
The rumors were categorically false. The FBI has stated for the record and in no uncertain terms that they are not investigating Gov. Palin or her family or her administration for anything. Ms. Moore purports to be a journalist, appears on national television and has a radio show. Journalists are not free to engage in rumor mongering and spreading demonstrably false and entirely reckless innuendo about imaginary criminal investigations.
The governor's legal counsel merely pointed out the false nature of the rumors that Ms. Moore and others were actively spreading. Ms. Moore was claiming that she knew there was a scandal. Look at what she was tweeting:
Ms. Moore writes:
Sarah Palin is a coward and a bully. What kind of politician attacks an ordinary American on the Fourth of July for speaking her mind? What’s wrong with her? The First Amendment was designed to protect people like me from the likes of people like her. Our American Revolution got rid of kings. And queens, too. Am I jacked-up? You betcha.
Ms. Moore once again resorts to name calling, the quintessential left wing argument when one has no substance.
Free speech goes both ways. If Shannyn Moore can exercise her free speech by spreading rumors, then the Palins have every right to exercise theirs by having their attorney respond to rebut Ms. Moore’s baseless rumors and issue a warning about the consequences of slander.
Shannyn Moore isn't the only one with Constitutional rights. In fact, the governor's attorney even quoted the Alaska Constitution in his press release warning Ms. Moore about the legal consequences of reporting demonstrably false stories.
And what are we to make of the fact that Shannyn Moore is now “playing the victim”? Every time Gov. Palin defends herself from her critics, Ms. Moore is the first to accuse her of playing the victim. Don’t believe me? Read here, here, here, and here. And that’s just a quick search.
Ms. Moore would like to change the conversation to deflect from the fact that she was peddling baseless rumors that 20 minutes of real journalism would have easily debunked. Instead of dealing with fact, Ms. Moore creates the strawman of victimization.
She doesn’t want anyone to ask her, “What facts did you really have to support your rumor and innuendo?” She has failed to come clean and admit she had no factual basis for her slander. The FBI refuted the story for her.
She wants to pretend her right to free speech was violated, but it's the height of irony to stand at a press conference in front of a row of cameras and claim that your right to free speech is being infringed upon. Yes, Gov. Palin is sure "bullying" you into silence, Ms. Moore.
If Ms. Moore wishes to be taken seriously as a journalist, she should investigate her stories properly and shouldn't cry when her falsehoods are exposed.

Poor Ms. Moore, who will she have wet dreams about defaming next. Perhaps Moore is afraid of her bank account being exposed with all of that nice liberal money that she has been receiving from Soros and Axelrod. Looks like Moore will have to get off her ass and find herself a REAL job. Poor baby, my heart is breaking
Shannyn is not a journalist.
She is a troll.
Shannyn's just repeating the same theme that Andrew Klavan summed up so perfectly. The Leftist answer to everything is these two words...
"SHUT UP!"
Yep, Shannyn Moore is definitely a troll. She uses national tv to spread a rumor. That is wreckless and irresponsible.
RAM, great write-up.
Some people cannot handle being confronted and to swallow their pride and admit they were wrong.
It's a sign of strength when you admit your errors.
This whole thing is so ridiculous. Shannyn sweetheart you got caught flat out lying about a non-existant FBI investigation. The only thing more pathetic than Moore are the pathetic turds in the media (I'm looking at you Andrea Mitchell) who believed this crap and repeated it without doing any research at all.
"I am not a breeder."
"Shannyn Moore will not be muzzled!"
Someone should take Shannyn out for a walk, it might cheer her up. I'll get the leash.
Moore's already claiming that Palin is threatening to sue her for merely repeating old rumors that have been around for years. Of course, that's not what the lawyer's statement said and she knows it. Moore is frightened, and should be.
I read on CNN or somewhere that the FBI normally doesn't come out publicly stating whether they are or are not investigating someone, but felt they had to come out publicly this time. Right on!
If Shannyn Moore was curious, she could've called the FBI herself, but chooses to go on national TV to spread such a huge rumor (that worried me to pieces when I skimmed thru C4P). I'm sure she knows the old rumor is false, but goes with this childlike, "A little bird told ME that...." Geez.
I want to see this gal Moore tied up in legal fees. Turn about is fair play.
WOW Shannyn, I mean who the hell does Sarah think she is, I mean what gives her the right to come out and DEFEND HERSELF right, where does she think she lives in, AMERICA!! I guess as far as Shannyn Moore is concerned, she is only allowed to defame Sarah, but when the shoe is on the other foot she can't take it, typical libs. Try having a conversation with one, the second they are cornered into admitting the TRUTH, they start screaming and ranting like a 2 year old, it's HILARIOUS
Point: How many "ordinary" Americans have a radio program, get invited to appear on MSNBC and blog for Arianna Huffinton?
Just askin'...
- JP
It's hilarious that this twit claims to be a private citizen being attacked by a public figure.
Sorry, no, you became a public figure yourself when you voluntarily sought out a public forum (blog, radio show, and appearances on MSNBC's Keith Olbermann) for your opinions.
Enjoy the coming lawsuit. Hope you like eating Ramen for the rest of your life.
Moore knows she can be sued for making claims against someone's reputation when those claims are not supportable. Most Leftist chimps are telling her "Go girl" and hooting about free speech and fascism. The more thoughtful ones are crapping their collective panties, as well they should. It's about time someone fought back.
I hope Team Palin does not back off of this; the law's on their side.
Here's the thing: Sarah doesn't do vengeance. Her success will be vengeance enough.
Shameless prediction. The Van Flein memo was a shot across the bow that the Palins would defend themselves against slander and defamation as private citizens, but understand the acceptable boundaries of political speech. There will be no lawsuit unless HuffPo or Kos cross certain lines in the future.
This was a warning.
Anyone know what the penalty for libel/slander is in Alaska, under this law?
Here's Andrea Mitchell's report from outside Palin's home for NBC Nightly News:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/31750354#31750354
It is my sincerest wish that Governor Palin's lawyers make an example of Ms Moore. She crossed a line with the demonstrably false allegations that she made about the Governor the other day and now that it appears that she has exposed herself to some pretty serious legal ramifications as a result of those slanderous accusations and now she is running for cover and lashing out in an attempt to save her own hide.
In a way I almost feel sorry for Ms Moore because The Governors decision the other day has pretty much made Ms Moore and those like her in Alaska irrelevant and to add insult to injury now she is facing a fairly serious lawsuit that could a have some serious financial ramifications for her. Oh well as they say those that live by the sword often die by the sword and in Ms Moore's case it appears that she is about to get a dose of her own legal medicine and I seriously doubt that the left wing money men like George Soros who were financing the media and lawfare campaign against Governor Palin are going to step in and bail Ms Moore out of the predicament that she has gotten herself into.
Shannyn Moore has made her bed and now she must sleep in it.
Josh Painter:
That's exactly what I was going to say! This "ordinary American" has a platform on the HuffPo where millions of readers, who don't know what HuffPo is, can accidently take it as a hard news source.
"This was a warning."
Earlier a Leftie tried to tell me Palin's bluffing, that she's really corrupt and wouldn't want a lawsuit because that would result in her corruption being blown wide open and ending her career. Why the threat of lawsuit? I asked. Oh, that's just her trying to shut Moore up with this, but she won't dare sue over it. That's really what some of them are telling themselves.
Me, I don't think it's a bluff or a warning. Palin's got the law on her side. If she doesn't sue after making this threat - and it IS a threat - we're going to hear these same corruption rumors as before, only 10x louder and 10x as often, and from other outlets besides blogs. Moore will be on every network spilling these same rumors that Team Palin could have silenced once and for all, but didn't. If they try to answer the rumors then, people will always wonder why the stupid move of dropping it in the first place. They'd ask, "Why didn't you bury Moore and her rumors at the start, when you had her cold?" I know I'd be asking it.
So...no bluff, no threat. I think she will have to follow through with this. They have to now. Anything less will unexplainable no matter how they may try.
I went over to Shannyn's site to read her rant in its entirety. You cut off your excerpt a paragraph too early:
Sarah Palin, if you have a problem with me, then sue me. Shannyn Moore will not be muzzled!
Hey, Shannyn, I'd hate for you to be disappointed. How's Monday, the 27th, work out for you? I understand that Sarah won't have to go to work that day, and she'll no longer be subject to the legal muzzle that prevents her from respoding to your idiotic accusations.
So What's the governor doing then? If Andrea Mitchell's report is right?
It doesn't seem like she wants to run for president....
I'd say sue this good for nothing journalist, i meant troll.
Andrea Mitchell of course completely misrepresents Karl Rove's reaction.
Patty, are you joking? This woman has no idea what she's talking about.
Ms moore presents herself as a serious Journalist and not just a mere blogger. huffpost and MSNBC (notably Olberman) use her as the Alaska politics and notably Sarah Palin expert.
On NBC she was babbling about weeklong rumors about a criminal investigation, this is clearly a lie, there were no such rumors.
Rumors are more than just speculations, notably if all is brought across by someone posing as an expert.
No matter if this is enough for a libel case, there is still good hope that Ms Moore will finally be outed as what she is; just a phony amateurish know nothing.
She is symthomatic for everything which went wrong in the recent months.
Phony Obamanation nobodies get airplay as Alaska experts while the governors achievements simply get ignored.
Someone actually put a camera in front of that cretin?
Let me guess...MSLSD.
Do I win the kewpie doll?
Is Shannyn Moore a paid blogger on HuffPo?
Andrea Mitchell actually flew to Alaska to cover this..but but, I thought Sarah has no political future and is just some big dummy, yet Andrea Mitchell, had to fly to Alaska to cover her..poor libs, they are so terrified of Sarah being Obama it's just too darn funny. Is it just me or does Andrea Mitchell look like a rodent. I hope Sarah takes Andrea hunting, yeah...hunting
I really hope Sarah doesn't engage Shannyn while she's up there trying to stir the pot....
What do you guys think? Do you think she'll hunt Sarah down up there in AK and try to get her to react?
I personally feel that Sarah has done what she needs to on this one (Van Flein's legal warning, Twitter updates, etc.) - she should just let Moore and Mitchell writhe in pain on their own.
What are your thoughts on this?
"Shannyn Moore has made her bed and now she must sleep in it."
And, much to her anguish, without Sarah Palin.
Don't fret, Shannyn, your boyfriend Keith Olbermann will make Governor Palin the worst person in the world for you on his Monday night show. Complete with a point at himself, then he'll make a heart shape with his fingers, then he'll point at the camera. "This goes out to the only person watching my show, my soulmate in Alaska! You know who you are!"
I actually went over to that slug's blog. I feel dirty now.
But while I was there, I noticed something that stood out for me. She accused the letter Palin's counsel posted as being "rambling."
Isn't that exactly what the lefties and the pundits claimed about Sarah's announcement Friday?
Despite making one tiny little error at the end regarding her closing quote, I found her speech to be rich with history and candor.
Her discussing Seward's Folly, a gambit that was mocked but turned out to be a fantastic idea...I think that set up what she was saying about her own actions: Palin's Folly.
I found nothing rambling about either the letter or her speech. I will confess to crying during her speech though.
Whinnyn Moore should quite while she's behind. If she keeps doubling down on stupid, Van Flein is going to call her bluff and as Ricky Ricardo used to say:
"You got some Splaning to do"
Moore is a stalker, pure and simple. If she did not happen to be trying to undermine the same person the media is, she would be recognized as a stalker who cannot control her creepy obsession with Sarah Palin and sees "Basic Instinct shots" where none exist. If her claims were not given credibility by the media, I would just say ignore them as the rantings of a perverted crank.
This is no "ordinary" American, I think she took weird pictures of Governor Palin's legs. (ahem) Not that there is anything wrong with that!
From the "Reactions Round-up" post (everyone go check that out. There's still some fun going on in the comments.)

2. having used a large quantity of speed, cocaine, or other amphetamine.
3. cut or lacerated by means of a make-shift knife or blade.
4. In generally poor or injured condition.
I can't believe andrea Mitchell went to sarah house! LOL
Something about that is just really funny to me.

Nice little walking path in Anchorage. We could give her a package of bacon (opened, of course) to carry in her mouth.
Oh, the path is closed due to bears in the area?
yabbut yabbut Shannyn can't comprehend the written word.
*sigh*
Uber,
I felt teary-eyed during her speech too. And when Parnell spoke. I think that if I were to have seen it live and at the moment not knowing what's going on, I would've cried also.
Stuck on Stupid. Just keep digging. The letter was a cease and desist warning anything after that by the Rats is slander. The Rats had their warning now it is time to press on with legal action against all who slander or repeat the lie. As Gov. Palin says " I choose to fight" and I believe she will.
Does anybody know if AK has a journalistic shield law.

The good Governor is over at the Bristol fishing camp. Wonder if Andrea will fly over there?
Next "Breaking News" Andrea Mitchell disappears in the Alaska wilderness
Oh, and just for fun, I tried to submit a comment over at Shannyn's similar to the one I did above, but toned down, saw it go into moderation, and it was never posted.
She apparently allows only her fans to post. I've re-sent this:
---
You say you love free speech, but you didn’t allow my comment to post. Hypocrite.
Here it is again:
Sarah Palin, if you have a problem with me, then sue me. Shannyn Moore will not be muzzled!
Hey, Shannyn, I’d hate for you to be disappointed. How’s Monday, the 27th, work out for you?
Andrea's flying around Alaska trying to chase down that Palin Woman?
Jeez, the imagery, the mosquitos, the lumpy mattress in the Wassilla Motel Six!
What! Oh wait, it's Andrea Mitchell, she stays in a decent tower hotel in Anchorage. No way she goes slumming in Wassilla.
Ms. Moore, is she related to Michael Moore? That would explain a lot of things! Poor little girl from Homer, she is now officially known as a LIAR! Ironic how it took the FBI to point out the obvious!
Hopefully Rasmussen polled Palin this weekend and can be the first pollster to report good numbers for her.
We can beat the media narrative with just one good poll :).
LindaW...
I want to clarify why I cried.
I cried because hearing her articulate what she's done for her state...regarding moving business back to the private sector, standing up against special interests, her concern over the debt...
And I cried because we need that SO very badly right now in America. I wish there were a way to make her President right now so she could undo the horrific damage these leftists and weak republicans have unleashed on us.
They were really tears of joy because it's so wonderful to see that there is someone out there in the public arena who believes what I do. And by my count, she is the only one who has a solid record on all of the above.
She has my support in whatever capacity she chooses to fight for our Republic.
Look kids, fun is fun. We don't want Trolling here. Let's not go over there and troll.
It's the principle of the thing.
Sorry, Tommy, expect her to take a hit for resigning her post. It's just not done.
Her reasons were honest ones, but ordinary people may not understand them, as they don't follow Alaska politics.
She's going to have to earn her way back. Big time.
It just is what it is.
Ugh, I regret visiting Moore's site. So much craziness there.
Short term pain long term gain.... That's how I feel at the moment.
I wonder if she is gonna do any sit downs with press up there in the next few weeks?
Here is what I think. S. Moore told people at MSNBC that the rumors were probably true. She probably convinced them that it would be a big deal and Sarah would be quilty and an indictment would come down.
MSNBC told A. Mitchell to get on a plane and find out what is going on in Ak. So off to Ak. But, S. Moore,
didn't take her meds. that day, and it all is a big lie.
Result, A. Mitchell had a 10 hr. flight there to find out NOTHING...IT WAS JUST A RUMOR.
Now here is the kicker, I think. If Sarah was to sue (which I don't think she will this time) I am sure her attorney would interview A. Mitchell and any and all people that talked with S. Moore. If that happened S. Moore would get thrown under the bus. She would be dealing with big time people that are not going to lie under oath.
A. Mitchell didn't fly all the way to AK. to stand out in front of Sarah's house, while Sarah has gone fishing.
What we have here with the anklebiters is a case of Parkinson's Law. Work expands to fill the time set aside for it.
For laymen it means that if you know that instead of having 16 months to destroy Sarah Palin and then find out you only have 3 weeks everything gets sped up and you know you have to throw your knockout punch now before
Sarah eludes your grasp. Thus the craziness, weirdness and the Far Left coming unhinged.
My first impression? Shannyn Moore is capitalizing on Sarah Palin's name reconition. One more insignificant liberal who hides behind the title of "journalist" to promote nothing more than the desruction of personal character and integrity. This is a tried and true method of the left. Nothing more than grade school name calling. Ignore her.
Alert: Gov Sarah Palin: An American Woman - Fox News Special 9PM Sunday July 5
Thing is, no one in the media (even the obtuse Andrea Mitchell) will take Moore seriously after this debacle.
Mitchell friggin' went up to AK anticipating an iceberg and got a lame shot of Todd's Piper Cub. I think it's safe to say Moore has succeeded only in digging her own grave. Woof woof.
In fact, remember Mitchell was reporting time and time again right after Sarah gave her speech.
"Gov. Palin will be leaving politics
for good". She claimed she had this information from a good source. A. Mitchell didn't fly to AK to stand in front of Sarah's house and give a 3 min. report. No way. This is the big news. If that is all the reporting A. Mitchell does from AK. that will tell us a lot. And, S. Moore will be having sleepless nights.
A. Mitchell is a very seasoned reporter and she would not be easy to fool with just rumors. She had to be convinced that the information was factual or as close to factual as possible.
Juju,
So you think Palin is done with electoral politics now based on Mitchell's report?
Tommy,
I think she's saying the same thing I am - that Shannyn Moore must've convinced Mitchell that something was going to go down. Otherwise she wouldn't have bothered to go all the way up there.
He? I don't know. The internet is so awkward.
Here is one to add to the list of news people spreading that rumor.
Right. Rachel understood what I was saying. If that is all the reporting A. Mitchell does about Sarah then I would bet my life. S. Moore convinced someone at MSNBC that the story about Sarah indicment was true.
A. Mitchell usually goes with the President overseas. Foreign stuff is her type of reporting. She probably was pulled off going to Russian with the Pres. because they were convinced the Sarah indictment was true.
Moore and Mitchell know more than the FBI?
juju,
Think Dan Rather.:) They already have the storyline, Moore is just feeding what Mitchell wants to hear. I don't believe anything the state run media reports about Governor Palin. C4P is the only place I trust for Governor Palin news.
I have a feeling Mitchell's "source close to the Palin's" that said she is done with politics is the same "source" that said she would be indicted next week. Just a hunch.
If this is the case I've no sympathy, maybe next time Mrs. Greenspan will look into things and not blindly hope it's true.
Sorry, juju, I think I misunderstood you.
Thanks, Huskers-for-Palin!
I'm watching it right now. Loved it when she described the swimsuit competition. LOL!
Guess the point I am really trying to make is: S. Moore is claiming she was just talking about a rumor.
Well, if you convince MSNBC to send one of your most seasoned reporters to Ak. on the word of Moore. Then, it seems to me that Moore may have told them a lie. She may have told them she knew the the rumors were a fact, when we all know now, they are not facts. We shall see if Mitchell does any more reporting from Ak.
I think Mitchell was convinced that she would have a big exclusive. Well, she doesn't.
Take it from a former Hillary supporter: do not believe anything unless you hear it coming from the mouth of Sarah Palin.

I hope that Andrea Mitchell is wrong and Gov. Palin isn't giving up on Politics. It would be a terrible loss for my kids (looking for a leader to believe in in D.C.) AND for the U.S. as a whole which is going to be scarred like never before by 2012/2013. Obama is on a mission to destroy...."remake" America and his accomplices in the Media go along because they want him to take out Free speech on the Radio.
Speaking of media. What are everyones' thoughts on HOTAIR? What are some good sites that are similar to HOTAIR that are not as seemingly Anti-Palin.
1-20-13, noon.....we hope America is restored...renewed...and reborn.
You may be right juju. Looking at the stuff she posted on twitter she was certainly misleading a lot of other people on this thing. If not MSNBC.
Why isn't anyone covering the fact that Andrea said that some big republican heavyweights are counting her out for good.
Wow, so this does prove that the Obama Bailout Network really does take its news leads from Arianna Huffington?!
Color me shocka...not.
Andrea - your Katie Couric Award for Takin' Out Sarah Palin is...well, it flooded away when all of those "icebergs" melted.
Love this instapundit post:

Glenn has been quite supportive of the Governor. He likes his tea parties but it shows that a lot of libertarian types respect her and if GOP doesn't want her, others will want her leadership and popularity.
I'd believe Manuel Noriega's word about what's going to happen to Sarah before I'd believe any NBC reporter's word.
They really don't know the 'Cuda do they? She's always a step ahead. It would not be unlike her to throw them the red herrings she caught today.
Andrea Mitchell is a liar, and I hope Sarah sues her stupid ass. Andrea Mitchell should be investigating her hubby Greenspan, how's that for an exclusive. Poor Andrea, she wasted a trip going to Alaska and again found out nothing. She stood right outside Sarah's house and Sarah didn't invite her in for tea and cookies, Andrea must be upset. Funny how the media never covered the AGIA project, Sarah cutting the fiscal budget in 2010, her visit to Kosovo, and all the other wonderful things she did as Governor, but her leaving, all the goons fly to Alaska trying to dig up dirt. Sean Hannity was right when he said the media is dead, they are dead and buried. No one believes anything coming from the press anymore, or as I call them "The Obama ass kissing networks"
Guys I've been a trial lawyer for 28 years. The Governor will not be advised to pursue defamation cases because of the law. Remember Hustler Magazine v. Falwell, 485 U.S. 46 (1988)? This is a well played shot across the bow by Palin.
On a happier note. I was just at a family cook out. Full throated support of Governor Palin in my very large Irish Catholic family.
Sleep well.
Like I said, Palin will have to earn her stripes now.
When you leave the Governor's office, you violate an unwritten code. The times are different, but you are supposed to stay where you are and leave when your term is up. That's just political reality.
Palin's situation was radically different from anything seen before in Alaska politics. So we'll see where she goes from here, but she'll have to put her nose to the grindstone and start knocking down the chicken dinner circuit for Republicans.
Period.

I saw Sean on Fox News Sunday today. I would call him solid, competent and down-to-earth, a good man but he is not flashy or flamboyant. He certainly is not as dull as Tim Pawlenty or Mark Sanford but not as charismatic as Sarah Palin but who is? Sarah Palin types come around once every 25 years if that.
He will do a good job as governor and see that Sarah's agenda gets taken across the finish line.
As I have not seen him perform I will not predict one way or another whether he will be elected in 2010. That's why they have elections.

HaHa.

Sapwolf: We don't know that to be a fact. Another point is, since Moore is on MSNBC a lot of the time, why didn't A. Mitchell interview her as a
authority of what is going on in AK? Doesn't that seem strange.
If A. Mitchell was actually mislead by Moore, she will be very embarrassed
by other reporters she works with and probably mad as hell.
Maybe Moore did the press conference as a CYA because she knows that she could be caught in a lie to A. Mitchell and she wants to get her point out that she only reported a humor before Mitchell goes back to
MSNBC and spills the beans about her.
section9,
stop with your periods. read a little bit of what techno has been posting.
Did you read or listen to her speech? If she has decided not to run for the Governor in 2010 and has decided to either
- take a different direction and/or
- run for POTUS in 2012,
then what she did was brilliant.
period.
I kind of wish that Sarah became aware of a "mole" in her inner circle and intentionally put out the rumor herself to catch the person...
I read too many novels.
So far, Sarah is the first political leader whom I can take at her word.
Here's a feminist liberal...it's worth a read.
Sarah Palin’s Second Chance

Beggin' yer pardon, ma'am, but maybe this would be a good time to stop helping Moore, et alia, spread their crap into corners they can't reach.
Embargo. Silence. No comment. Nada.
Let all conversation take place in a courtroom, or using ink they paid for.
Ann Coulter's on Geraldo right now to discuss Palin.
"I think it's brilliant and I'm baffled by people being baffled by it."
Hell yeah Ann!
Tool says "she's made no major accomplishments." Called her a "showhorse rather than a workhorse."
Ann is sticking up for her really well. When told she did a good job defending the speech: "I just listened to it!"
Tommy, that Taylor Marsh column is surprising. She was hostile all throughout the campaign. Dunno when she changed but it's a welcome change.
My comment was too early. I've checked the archives. Taylor Marsh is quite hostile to Sarah, dunno why the latest column.
Really? Yeppers. Really!
Lefty, hatefilled blogger who was not outraged by the sick photoshopped picture of disabled little boy, calls little boy's mother a bully.

John Huntsman, the current Gov of Utah is resigning to take a post in the Obama administration. He is being praised by all for leaving his office before his term is up.
How Is This Any Different Than Palin??
George Bush left mid-term.
Obama told Illinois he was not running for president. Less than 1 year into his term, he announced his candidacy for president and he spent the next 10 months campaigning until he resigned Before His Term Was Up?
Different standards for females??
Bill, I'm on Sarah's side. I'm with you here.
I'm just telling you what she will have to do to be taken seriously as a force within the Republican Party: elect conservative Republicans in 2010.
She fully understands that she's on her own here. She knows exactly what she's done. This is a huge riverboat gamble here for her. That's why she's such an extraordinary politician: there's no one else in this country who would have done this for the reasons she did this.
And yes, I take her at her word.
But she, more than any of us, knows that she deliberately set herself a huge mountain to climb. It is what it is.
This will be a political story that makes Obama's pale in comparison. Just watch.
No one seriously expects her to succeed. That is one reason why she will.
Can't remember the name but another legislature in AK. resigned to go and service in OBama's admin.
section9,
sounds good.
you said:
>>elect conservative Republicans in 2010
- Amen to that, I think she will be a powerhouse doing this
>>she deliberately set herself a huge mountain to climb
- Agree and disagree.
Not to minimize the challenge, but she simply said "I can be more effective in the lower 48, both for AK and USA", and she will simply do what she has always done, and she will get better and polishing herself, albeit slightly.
(I can't keep up with all of the comments, there's an education passing me by, but it's ne'er impossible)
section9,
You're assuming she wants to forge her path through the GOP. She might, but her speech and her past record indicates that she's more interested in courting conservatives, not solely Republicans.
Conservatives come from any party: Indies, Dems and GOP, and I think that's where she will draw her support.
I've been checking in on PUMA blogs and other liberal women blogs, and the majority of them are thrilled with what Palin did. They love the independence she has shown, loved the part of her speech where she said she wants to help anyone, regardless of party, who wants to run for office, and just plain love her anti-establishment streak.
Many of these women understand that for a woman to break that glass ceiling, she has to take a non-traditional path than that of a man. I think Palin learned from the few women who tried to reach the Presidency by playing on a man's field with a man's playbook. Every one of them did what they were supposed to do, played it safe, and lost. Sarah has decided to gamble it all and forge an entirely new path. And she has many of these very liberal women willing to help her reach that goal.
So while she may lose some Republicans, she has gained and expanded her supporters, from various demographics and both parties as well as the unaffiliated electorate.
Plus, she just gave herself 3 1/2 to court them, inspire them and organize them. It took Obama 2 years to expand his base of voters, and Palin just may understand that she needed more time to pull off something spectacular and stunning.
section 9:
Tiger Woods was not respected by the players on the PGA tour when he came out at age 20; he won 2 out of his first 7 tournaments and then won the Masters; 9 months from his debut he was the number one golfer in the world.
From that moment on TW has always had the respect of his peers.
For Sarah the respect from the GOP will come the same way, slow at first, but it will come, once the word is out in a few months how much she raised and how many have attended her speeches and rallies and finally her TW moment of full respect will happen when she orchestrates a huge victory for the GOP in the House and the Senate in the 2010 midterms. From that point even the RINO stragglers will begin to come on board.
Superstars always prevail, unless they are on drugs or abusing themselves. Sarah is doing neither. In 12-18 months Sarah will have the GOP eating out of her hands.
Sarah had to step down.
She was spending 80% of her time on ethics complaints that would not stop. Her national poll numbers are on the rise. The ethics violations would have gotten worse.
It is easy for YOU to sit and say she should have stayed, She violated some code when it is not costing you your life savings, your reputation, your kids being trashed, just to stay on another year in a job you have decided to not run for re-elecion for.
Palin is like me. I have worked my butt off for everything I have. No one put me through school, I worked a 30 hr/wk job with a 18 hr course load to get through, I have paid for my own mortgage, no one has given me money to bail myself out with.
How could Sarah stay and pay even MORE money because she slips up and says she really likes using Pert shampoo on her hair, or she thinks her Jetta is a piece of crap or whatever and get hits with an ethics violation.
No, America will forget about her leaving the first time she is mopping the floor of the debate stage with Romney and Huck's rears. While they are paying 4 bucks a gallon for gas and Sarah is THE energy expert. When she walks into an area and everyone is gasping for air because the oxygen is sucked out. She will be getting writers cramp signing books on her book tour.
Sarah will have time to rebound BIG. She will study up, she will sound as good as she did on AK issues in her guv debates when she speaks of national and international issues in primary debates. People will be impressed.
If you have not watched the guv's governor debates on youtube I highly recommend it. She was getting out a toothpick to get out chunks of those guys butts out of her teeth.
Fact... since the announcement Palin has found herself with more than 20,000 new Twitter followers. Looks like we know where the support is!!!
When she said, If I die, I die (politically) I guess this decision she made was a part of it too.
Tool showed himself to be drunk on kool-Aid.
Getting the largest construction project in Narth America going is not an accomplishment?
Getting Exxon to drill is not an accomplishment?
Getting ethics reforms passed in AK is not an accomplishment?
Wish Ann had hit him with that.
Oh, and I forgot to add that the majority of real conservatives do not put their trust and faith in institutions like the government, so I doubt that true conservatives would care that much about Palin stepping down from her role to take on a larger role. Most conservatives would applaud that decision.
techno,
you said:
>>her TW moment of full respect will happen when she orchestrates a huge victory for the GOP in the House and the Senate in the 2010 midterms
- Amen to that
I also think she will impact pending and near-term legislation, before 2010 and separate from supporting a house-cleaning in the house in 2010
Section9 is a troll but I guess she's our pet troll. That's cool.
DDorJ - You are a Trig Truther. Why are you still allowed to post here?
Wow, that Taylor Marsh is a surprise, but so are some of the comments. These people were some of the harshest to Palin during the campaign, but some are actually saying this doesn't hurt Palin and in fact, it gives her the time and opportunity she needs to reinvent herself. Very interesting comments from that crowd. Thanks to whomever posted that.
Alaska - The Chlamydia Capital said...
I LOVE SHANNYN! SHE'S AN ALASKAN, UNLIKE MOST OF YOU.
ONLY ALASKANS NEED TO BE INVOLVED IN THIS, NOT YOU OUTSIDERS!
Honey in a couple weeks she won't be your's anymore. That's kinda what this weekend has been all about.
For those calling the lawyer's statement "a shot across the bow" or "polite warning" with no intent of follow through on Moore, I have one question:
How can doing that not damage Palin's public image?
If you think she can benefit from it, please explain how. I am just not seeing it.
Rick, please. Don't be a Clyde. I've been around here for quite awhile. I'm no troll.
Techno-good point about the comparison to Woods. A lot of PGA people snickered after he came out of college with a $40 million dollar contract from Nike and then only won a few tournaments. After the Masters in '97, they shut up.
The 2010 Campaign is when we'll see Sarah shine, imho. The point was made that she'll reach out to people beyond the GOP, I agree. But she will be judged largely by how candidates she supports do in midterms.
You'll see her pop up in Blue Dog districts where Bush won handily in 2004 and where Emanuel ran the Red to Blue program successfully. That's where she'll spend a lot of her time. Those Democratic congressmen in marginal districts aren't too happy about her being in the open field tonight.
2010 will largely be a midterm showdown between how Obama does on the stump versus how Sarah does on the stump. It will be fun to watch-the President vs. the Natural. I know where I'm placing my bet.
Lastly, Taylor Marsh: she is a good Democratic Soldier who was a solid Hillary supporter and then saluted when Obama was the nominee and started attacking McCain. Obama never truly won her heart. She's no dyed-in-the-wool OBot, just a flaming lib.
Where did this one come from? What do you mean. Involved in what??
Just wondering if Andre Mitchell is going to be interviewing Shannyn while she is here in Ak?? Or
Did Andre Mitchell just come to Ak to stand in front of Sarah's house and give a 3 min. report?
Referencing above: 2010 narrative from the MSM, which loves a cage match, will be the Obama v. Palin WWF smackdown narrative. Trust me: there will be a full time crew from each net attached to Sarah's hip as she goes from district to district in the fall. The Nets will treat it as practice for 2012. WH, of course, already has full time crew from each Net covering POTUS.
juju: working theory around here, and one I like because it highlights the circular firing squad nature of the Lefty Alaska blogosphere, is that Shannyn Moore assured MSNBC, who probably assured A. Mitchell, that Indictments would be handed down on Evil Sarah for "Housegate".
Missing is what I suspect, that Shannyn Moore really screwed pooch by assuring Her Royal Highness Arianna, who then called Her Royal Highness Andrea and told her that one of the Peons (that would be Shannon Moore) had the goods on That Palin Woman and that Federal Indictments would be coming down soon.
Shannon Moore, meet bus.
the media is still in a frenzy trying 'understand' what Sarah has done/is going to do. They just don't undestand someone truthfully saying what they mean!! Sarah? she's gone fishin on Bristol Bay!!! Love it!
Here are some quotes from Meg:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2009-07-05-palin_N.htm
Meghan Stapleton, the governor's communications director, told USA TODAY in a phone interview that she expects Palin to remain active as a speaker and campaigner. "I am listening to options for her," she said. Palin's also working to complete memoirs due out next spring.
"She doesn't have a next step decided yet," Stapleton said. "We will just have to wait for history."
"She doesn't have a next step decided yet," Stapleton said. "We will just have to wait for history."
_____________________________________
Well, I don't like the sound of that. Hopefully, she's just biding time. I certainly hope Palin has a next step and isn't going to "wait" for history. Go make history, Sarah.
wow...those are some strange quotes IMO.....I thought Meg was quite good Friday on CNN and Fox.
Good news: the media is not repoting the narrative that she's in the clear with respect to the rumor about her house.
Feds: Palin in the clear
http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0709/Feds_Palin_in_the_clear.html#comments
Meg is blowing smoke. Which is her job right now.
Sarah is holding her cards close to her vest.
Sarah did not claw her way up to sit and think about history.
Only way that could happen is if Trig HAS really changed her and made her not as cut throat and driven as she was when she clawed her way to the top.
I do think Sarah wants to make a bit of money. She needs to pay her legal debt off and set up a trust fund for Trig. Needs to do that while she KNOWS she can command big bucks easily. That is the mom in me. I would be all over setting up Trig for life, knowing he will outlive me and need to be cared for.
I don't think it's fair to parse the statement made by a spokeswoman.
I think she's genuinely undecided about whether she wants to return to electoral politics rather than other political avenues.
There's really not a good way to express such a feeling.
What is the Governor trying to do here?
Is she trying to start a grassroots movement without the party?
More mom comments:
If I were Sarah and I did not already have a MAJOR amount of life insurance on me I would be purchasing a ton of it.
Think of her life long earning potential...she is also the main breadwinner of her family right now. Several kids to send to college, a special needs child.
Surely someone has advised her of this. She needs to get her personal affairs like this squared away, then she moves on knowing that all that is taken care of.
"She doesn't a next step decided yet...we will just have to wait for history."
Meghan Stapleton
TRANSLATION:
Here's the deal-For the next two days it will be Michael Jackson all the time. Sarah will be lying low. And until July 25, Sarah will not want to do anything too adventurous to get herself in more hot water, if you know what I mean.
We know her first or one of her first engagements will be at the Reagan Library on August 8th. She will probably touch base with John Ziegler as well when she is in Southern California.
Do you remember my counsel in the spring for Sarah not to make any UNFORCED ERRORS while raking in the dough through SarahPAC when some C4P posters were promoting that Sarah become more engaged with the MSM and right wing talk radio. How did my idea work out for Sarah? Just fine, thank you.
Well, I would expect even as a 'civilian' Sarah will treat her first month in the field like a Broadway producer doing dress rehearsals to iron out the kinks and smooth out the rough edges before debuting the show on Broadway-by doing 'safe' interviews and doing speeches before 'safe' conservative audiences and 'safe' fundraisers in front of the choir she again will be free of UNFORCED ERRORS.
That takes us to September and the fall. By now Sarah will have developed a certain routine and system that she wishes to follow in scheduling her travels and events and lined up pretty well what she wants to accomplish or who she wants to meet in the fall 2009. Of course writing her book will be a high priority as well.
During this time Sarah will also be hiring staff and putting in place the initial underpinnings of a national organization.
Sarah will also be more adventurous in her interviews and who she speaks to as by now she would have found her sea legs and developed a smooth rhythm. I wouldn't be surprised if she went on the Leno show or the Today show with Conan, appeared on a Sunday news show for the first time and even did Bill O'Reilly and of course visited Iowa, NH, and SC for the first time in the new primary season.
I'll stop here but remember CPAC will be at the end of February and Sarah will attend in 2010.
Hello everybody. I've been reading through the comments the last day or so and so far I like what I see. I sincerely hope Sarah Palin makes the jump and takes an even bigger role in politics in the very near future.
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself. Hopefully, I will be able to add to the conversation.
Patty Hewes:
Sarah is not going into the wilderness to start a new party. Like Ronald Reagan Sarah will run as an outsider but as a Republican.
As Rush Limbaugh always says: "Third parties don't work."
Patty, Sarah is not stupid.
Sarah would not run as a third party. "it is about country".
She minored in Pol Science, she knows a third party gives Obama the election. Romney is MUCH better than Obama, she would not do that to her country.
"She doesn't have a next step decided yet," Stapleton said.
===================================
She has to say that. If she indicated she knew what was coming, everyone would want to know what Sarah's plans are.
Sarah didn't quit just so she could sit home and knit and mull over offers. She has a specific plan and she is letting the tension build.
Think for a second.....how many people will show up for her next press conference.
Hi BoL...Welcome...luv to hear from you
JohnDoeat30Below:
For those who are as conversant with national politics there is a certain protocol that must be followed by Presidential contenders. And you don't want to box yourself in for running for President if you haven't got all your ducks in a row.
So you play 'hard-to-get' or the reluctant, shy bride that never wants to get married.
Thus Presidential candidates including Romney and Huckabee are cagey at this point in the proceedings.
For C4P readers and posters stay here for the next 3 years and you'll get the straight dope on Sarah's plans and what the lay of the political landscape is looking like at a given moment in time.
ty juju
I aqree with what many have already said: lets wait and see what she's going to do. In 3 weeks, she'll be a private citizen (well as private as anybody can be with her name recognition)
Lots of people will be starving for info on her future, myself included. Be patient.
BOLT5000,
Great to have you here!
Governor Palin living the American Dream! She is all about believing in the American people, the American spirit, American individualism, American toughness, American leadership, American ingenuity. Whatever she does after this month will be about those ideals, and the American people will be flocking to her, because Obama's message is none of those things.
Thanks, Nancy
btw, does everybody have to do the word verification thing, or is that because I'm new?
A little late to the conversation...
Shannyn: Are you still indignantly ranting on your little liberal talk-show on KBYR:
"I'M NOT A BREEDER"...
I can speak for ALL Alaskan men when I say...We're ECSTATIC you aren't a breeder...Yuck! What a HORRIBLE visual that conjures up.
Wonder if the Twitter explosion is an indicator of SarahPac donations? Think people are donating?
Come on. Sarah Palin is not walking away from the gov. office of the state that she LOVES unless she is planning on running in 2012.
She saw first hand how a badly run national campaign is horrible. She wants to get hers set up nice and neat. Maybe even have extra time to flush out any people who turn out to not be as loyal as she thought.Sarah has seen up close and personal a bad example of a campaign...bet she learned a ton from that on what NOT to do.
This gives Sarah a great advantage. People are writing her off which means she can sneak up on them, they are underestimating her....hmmm, bet she likes that.
BOLT:
Welcome. Love all the new posters since Sarah went rogue:)
I have to verify but then maybe I can't be trusted?!?! ;)
Ms. Moore knows she is about to be out of a job and lose the 8 people who read her blog.
Speaking of Twitter (I don't use it much) I noticed Shannyn has about 1300 followers while Palin has over 60,000
Gee, I wonder why?
Liberalism in a nutshell: Attack, attack, attack, while proclaiming yourself a victim.
BOLT:
Ha, maybe I underestimated Ms. Moore? My mistake.
If MSMBC paid fare to AK based on her recommendation then she is losing cred. bad.
Sarah, whatever she does, will be happy. These people, I am not sure ever will be happy. That is sad to me.
MWN:
I still bow to you regarding Bore in the Woods.
ty Lipstick. First time on this site, but I've been a Palin fan ever since her name was floated as a vp choice last year.
BOLT5000:
I read over at FR that many conservatives were waiting for a sign from Sarah that she was serious about 2012 before ponying up money for SarahPAC and committing to her.
Unlike the pundits who think that Sarah committed hara kiri, these new converts recognize when the Red Sea has been parted and that the Promised Land of a Palin Presidency is only 40 months away.
Another erratic quirk of Shannyn "I Will Not Be Muzzled" Moore:
She absolutely HATES being called 'A LIBERAL'...
C4P needs to have a weekly "The Best Of Shannyn Moore" with clips from her Saturday evening talk show on KBYR (Eddie Burke's station).
It'd be proof for those who ponder:
"Can Shannyn Moore REALLY be that stupid...?"
In the words of another maroon inhabiting the White House:
******"YES SHE CAN!"********
Techno,
I remember the excitement across the Conservative blogosphere when Palin's name was first floated. I took careful notice then, and apparantly, others did too.
For some reason I'm feeling good about our future again.
No smileys?
I guess Shannyn is trying to backtrack. Too late, the toothpaste is already out of the tube, and there is no way to get it back in.
http://www.ktuu.com/Global/story.asp?S=10646883
Video for "Blog war between Palin and Moore heats up"
Last week,Alaskan "LIBERAL" Shannyn Moore accused Barauk Obama of
"BEING WAY TOO CONSERVATIVE" on KBYR..
(She was serious!)
I nearly ran off 'Palmer/Wasilla Rd from laughing so hard...
BOLT:
Oh, I wasn't jumping on you, I was making a joke about Ms. Moore having som few followers compared to the guv. Didn't make that clear...sorry.
Hope no one's eating BUT:
The rumor around Alaska is that Shannyn is secretly married to Michael Moore...
Techno is the VA and NJ Gov. electios this fall. If so I bet Gov. Palin will be there for both.
Oh by the way I will not give up calling Gov. Palin Governor in three wks. It is called respect.
Good grief Kenton, what is in the water up there? Obama is many things, but too conservative?
She must be WAY crazy.
Kenton---- What is the feeling on the ground in AK.
Here is an example of why the announcement that Sarah Palin was resigning as Governor was hailed as a great move:
Charmaine Yoest, president of Americans United for Life, an anti-abortion lobbying group said, "Mrs. Palin serves a really important niche as a female politician who speaks out against abortion. That gives her a good foundation for doing something nationally, and I think that's pretty clear that's what she's planning to do." WSJ
TRANSLATION:
The majority of Sarah's hardcore supporters (conservatives, pro-lifers, evangelicals and NRA members) couldn't give a hill of beans if Sarah was the governor of Alaska or not in terms of viewing her as a credible candidate for POTUS. To them Sarah quitting her job is inconsequential.
What is extremely more important for these folks is that Sarah will be able now to make herself available in the lower 48 on an ongoing basis and advocate the Reagan conservative, pro-life message that she espouses.
And if Sarah was to worry about offending anybody with the announcement it would be these folks. That is one reason she brought Mr. Warren on board who has ties to evangelical community to keep them abreast of what is going on and not to believe the media hype that Sarah is toast.
And finally Sarah's hardcore supporters (I am one of them) are not Obamatrons or drones. They actually know what is going on and know that the MSM is in the tank for Obama and not to believe anything it says or reports.
CodaCuda:
Your right.
You know I read that post about C4P has that rule about posters can't use the guv's Chritian name....I from now on will never write in a comment using the guv's first name...out of respect. It will either be Gov. Palin, Gov., Governor, Ms. Palin, guv. She will always have the title governor.
CodaCuda2012:
Remember I am iconclast as well as been unconventional or unorthodox.
To your question on VA, I would say a definite yes there and a strong maybe for NJ, depending on how Christie is doing in the polls.
You have a brilliant mind so I have a question for you. Do you think Sarah will endorse Rubio?
moore doesn't like it when the PITBULL BITES BACK. The chains are off and they (left-loonies) had better head for the hills and hide. But remember a PITBULL has a great nose, and the nose knows where they hide so I guess it's just a matter of (to quote shannynmoore)
"Timing, baby, Timing" before they are EXPOSED!
you betcha!
There are few candidates in the history of America who could run as an outsider who was scorned by the party's brain trust, establishment and elites and still win the nomination of that party.
Reagan did it in 1980 because he refused to give up on his dream of first convincing Republicans of his good intentions and then the American people.
Reagan had 6 years in the wilderness (without a job); Sarah will have only 40 months; what will bridge the gap in time will be Internet.
Fortunately Sarah has the Reagan blueprint as her model of success. All she needs to do is to follow in the Gipper's footsteps to a landslide victory in 2012.
When I first saw all this go down on the 3rd, I thought that the Governor must be stepping down because she has received an offer that she can’t refuse. Like heading up the joint venture for Exxon and Trans Canada on the Gas Pipe line.
Then I thought about it some more and I realized that the Governor if she plays her cards right, has the potential and opportunity in 2010 to completely tear down and rebuild the Republican Party from the ground up in her image.
Think about it, Governor Palin is the biggest and brightest star in the GOP at the moment and has the potential to be a massive draw for collecting campaign funds and support. As such every candidate for 2010 will be giving their hind teeth just to get her endorsement which gives her an unprecedented amount of power over who gets nominated and elected in the 2010 races.
Now with the way things are going at the moment with the Obama administration and the Democrat majority in the House it is safe to say that baring any major fowl ups the GOP should regain the Senate and Congress 2010 and if the majority of representatives were helped into office in some way by Governor Palin then that going to give her an awful lot of influence and support where it counts especially in the lead up to 2012.
So to my way of thinking I’m not seeing Governor Palins resignation as a game over moment but rather the opening salvo in the reformation of the GOP as a conservative party. 2010 will be the year that we the people take back the Republican Party from the Washington elite and put the RINO’s on the endangered species list and it will be all thanks to the new leader of the conservative movement Sarah Palin.
Techno-
I agree with your Reagan comparison. Sorry I don't have the link, but look at the cover story for the June 1st Weekly Standard if you haven't already done so. It goes into great detail about what Reagan did starting in 1977 to lay the groundward for his 1980 run. I'd put money on it that Sarah is going to follow this playbook, assuming she is going to run in 2012, which I think she is. As you say, the internet is the accelerating factor in this, as every speech she gives and op-ed she writes, as well as her statements on twitter and facebook, will be available for all to see.
I just want a bit of time to address something that irks me, just a little. I want those out there to know, that I know more than a few people here in AK that will support Gov. Palin regardless of what direction she chooses. Granted there are those that have been swayed by the lies told about her. I personally have on many occasions pointed out the short comings of said lies. That is why I love this site. RAM and many of you have done a great job of culling out the lies and you are a great benefit.
Secondly, for those of you who don't feel so sure about what she's upto. Fear not, Grandma Palin isn't retiring to the rocking chair. Watch her last three or four speeches to see what direction she intends. My feelings on the current situation- If you think you've seen the best of Gov. Palin, well baby hold on to your socks, cuz you ain't seen nothing yet!
CodaCuda2012-
I loved and identified with your comment about about using the term 'Governor' Palin out of respect.
The Mat-Su Valley is a small community.
EVERYONE calls her Sarah in the Valley. (Even Valley Democrats).
Mention her and its like talking about a friend. So I don't mind calling her Sarah in the Valley.
BUT:I much prefer Governor Palin everywhere else.
It's how I was raised.
You asked "what the feel on the ground in AK?"
1) As I mentioned earlier, every time Gov Palin's name was mentioned at the Wasilla Tea Party, the responds was spontaneous 'whoops' of support...And lots of "Go Sarah" yells...
I wore my 'Conservatives4Palin' shirt...and 2 dozen+ people came up to me giving their support for Sarah.
2) On the Mat-Su Valley Frontiermen's front page today was an article titled:
***"GOVERNOR MAINTAINS STRONG LOCAL SUPPORT"****
3) At the Wasilla 4th of July parade,Sarah's parents,Chuck and Sally...along with Piper,Sarah's sister and other family walked with the Valley Republican float entry..I wasn't there but heard only positives from the crowd.
The previous comments from "RealAlaskan" irked me.
He was speaking ONLY FOR HIMSELF in his criticisms of Governor Palin's decision...
My circle of friends/family in the Mat-Su Valley are predominately conservatives...
But I've heard FEW people openly condemn her...I would still say that the 60+% who supported her BEFORE Friday's announcement STILL support her...
She,Todd and her family continue in our Alaskan family's daily prayers.
AND our Alaskan family will continue supporting her WHEREVER GOD leads her...
blerch:
I read that article and also went to the library and read up on the WILDERNESS YEARS.
It was fascinating how Reagan enhanced his personal knowledge and wisdom by being on the radio and giving speeches and reading a hell of a lot and Palin as a student of Reagan must be extremely familiar with the path and blueprint Reagan followed on his way to the Presidency and probably said it is what it is-I only have 40 months while Reagan had 6 years-better start now than later. And like you said she has the Internet and don't forget 24 hour cable channels.
By the way I am not discounting the ethics violations reason Sarah gave. Let's say many variables converged to cause this decision to occur including the pipeline announcement and the most recent polls and of course SarahPAC contributions.
Honestly, I really didn't think Sarah would go this route, because it is so unorthodox. Yes, I am unorthodox and unconventional but I am not a professional politician.
Kudos to the Governor for having the wisdom and foresight to venture forth into the wilderness.
I can only hope Gov. Palin and her lawyer have been taking names and are making plans to go after those who have done everything possible to disparage Palin and her family. Being a public person does not give the press free reign to report slanderous material aimed at destroying a persons career, family and reputation.
The left knows no shame but they may understand lawsuits.
Mrs. Palin is, for lack of a better word, an idiot and a disgrace to the Republican Party. As she stated in her remarks on Friday she didn't want to be a "lame duck" governor who "milks" the job for the paycheck and travels around on the state's dime. Well, Sarah (and she no longer deserves to be called governor), no one was forcing you to travel to the lower 48, kids in tow, on Alaska's dime. Maybe if she actually thought about the people in Alaska and not just the two people who sleep in her bed she would have realized she could have done a lot to change things in Alaska. But, alas, the Barricuda got a taste of $20,000 shopping sprees and a personal hair and make-up team and that was that. The simple life wasn't good enough for her anymore. So we get a rambling, incoherent good-bye where she can't even bear to say the word "resign."
So let's look at the wonder Mrs. Palin's resume:
Governor of Alaska: Quit 2 years and 7 months into a 4 year term.
Chairwoman Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Comission: Quit after less than a year.
Mayor of Wasilla: Quit during second term to launch a campaign for Lt. Gov. Illegally ran said campaign from city hall and on city time.
City Council Member: Quit to run for Mayor.
Five different colleges. Only one for longer than a year.
This is the woman you think should be President? A woman who has shown zero interest in foreign policy or any other branch of government other than energy. And while there are plenty of smart, successful and deserving women in politics, Mrs. Palin is not one of them. Instead, she has set women back about 40 years by playing into the dumb woman stereotype. For instance, why has Todd been included in so many government meetings when he has had no official capacity? Do you ever hear about Mrs. Bush or Mrs. Obama sitting in on government meetings? Why is he there? Can she not make any decisions on her own? I haven't even started on the various "-gates." Babygate, Housegate, Troopergate. I could go on and on. And this nonsense with the lawyer threatening the blogger? Any first year law student would tell you that threat was as empty as Mrs. Palin's head. By the way, quoting the AK constitution isn't that smart considering the US constitution (which supersedes any stupid AK law) grants full protection for anyone to report the existence of rumors concerning a public figure.
All of this is to help some of you see the light. Mrs. Palin is not running for President. As some of you have pointed out she lives under a glare that rivals the President and she cannot take it. She will sit back and cash the checks that come along with being a media star. But her credibility with voters has been irreperably damaged and I would be shocked if she had the balls to ever run for office again. (Unless, of course, book sales aren't so hot or her TV show gets canceled. Then she'll run again.)
Eric:
I guess Sarah Palin won't be hiring you as one of her advisors. Clearly you are way too smart to ever deign to be in her presence.
Mmmmmkay...
Eric, it sounds like you're not completely on board with Palin just yet. We'll mark you down as a "maybe" for the time being.
Don't worry Eric will come around soon enough LOL
You're right. She wouldn't hire me. I'd be too good at telling the truth. Like the handling of her resignation. I would have told it was a bad idea to not have a prepared, concise, and literate statement. I would have said it was a bad idea not to inform key advisors. Had they been in the know this speculative crap could have been avoided. I would have told lots of small basic things that any normal political advisor would have brought up. But as we all know she doesn't do "usual." So you're right, I would not be a good fit for her. She should hire people like her who deify her and think everything she does is amazing and never say no. Worked for Michael Jackson.
Hehe
It looks like Poptech's ghost has paid us a visit.
BOLT5000,
Welcome !
I started full-time blogging about 2 months ago, and blogging is amazing, as is Sarah.
This is as much educational as it is informational.
I only blog here, no time to even peek anywhere else. All the good stuff comes here anyway.
I serendipitously know a writer from World magazine (a Christian "Time" magazine, but with real journalism), and I was able to give her "the scoop", less than 24 hours after Sarah's announcement. She was like, "what's going on? I don't get it."
I have called WBAL radio and confidently explained briefly why she resigned - less than 1 hour after the announcement.
I have counseled a relative who is town council president in a small town in Pennsylvania, and whose getting pummeled by the left, because the "right" is silent.
- So I explained a few things about Sarah in Wasilla, Oil & Gas Commission, explaining to him that he, like Sarah, STANDS ON PRINCIPLE, and that THERE ARE MORE OF US THAN THERE ARE OF THEM.
Sarah has ALREADY changed the face of politics, but it's only just the beginning.
She will impact CURRENT LEGISLATION by speaking clearly and forcefully that the Cap 'n Trait is a disaster, and many other things.
Then, as techno says, 2010 will be her anointing, and then 2012 will be her coronation ! ! ! !
Again, welcome, and buckle up !
(yes, we all do the word verification. it's irritating, yes)
techno,
you posted:
>>"Mrs. Palin serves a really important niche as a female politician who speaks out against abortion.", quoting Charmaine Yoest, president of Americans United for Life, an anti-abortion lobbying group.
Stick with me here . . .
Here is what Sarah says:
"I choose LIFE", and
"States should decide abortion laws".
That's all she says.
imnsho, if at some point she started talking about overturning Roe v. Wade, she'd be toast. She may be right, but she'd be toast.
BUT, her life, her smile, her family, baby Trig, serendipitosly Bristol's baby (who I am sure is a dear child, no?) - Sarah doesn't really have to say much more.
She simply says "I choose LIFE",
Very quickly, she changes HEARTS rather than LAWS, because we all know no amount of laws will help an IMMORAL nation.
One other note about me. When I see Sarah, of course I say she is beautiful. Yes, my wife elbows me every now and then, but she of course thinks the same thing.
I get very emotional about Sarah Palin, in the roller coaster of last Thursday, I was sick to my stomach and knees shaking. I am not ashamed to admit it.
But what gets me emotional is in the backdrop of Sarah Palin, to me, are many many babies being saved.
- Really, who doesn't want their daughter to be like Sarah Palin?
- Sarah, again imnsho, shot a Ft. Sumter shot across the bow in the holocaust our nation participates in by encouraging the killing of a life in a mother's womb. She did so on Aug 29, 2008.
Blasphemy here: Sarah could very well say, "I think abortion should be safe, legal, and rare." Would that be wrong ?
But . . . . . Sarah could also show people how CRAZY are some of the laws that we have protecting the ABORTIONISTS, and NOT GIVING young, scared people a REAL CHOICE.
Do you see ? Sarah has turned the PRO-CHOICE argument and thrown it RIGHT IN THEIR FACE.
Ok, you get my point.
And this has been my theme since last fall as well:
What’s happening in the country today, with the explosion of Sarah Palin is two things:
1. an abstract application of the Valley of Dry Bones, Ezekial 37:1 – 14, especially
"and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet--a vast army"
2. Acts 5:39
"But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men;
you will only find yourselves fighting against God."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
juju, am I not right ?
IT'S ABOUT THE CHILDREN.
imnsho - in my not so humble opinion
Don't think I got an answer on this last night so I'll ask again (and believe me, I support Palin as strongly as any of you):
How will not suing Moore help her image and career?
If she doesn't, they'll say they were right, that she never wanted a day in court because it'd prove all the old corruption rumors. You'll hear this from cable TV outlets, not just some low-watt blogger in AK.
If they do sue but settle out of court, you'll get the same result.
Sarah HAS to sue or the state media is going to use this to utterly destroy her reputation far more effectively than her resignation could.
But if someone can explain what good the lawyer's statement will do her without suing, I'm all ears. Thanks,
"I can speak for ALL Alaskan men when I say...We're ECSTATIC you aren't
a breeder...Yuck! What a HORRIBLE visual that conjures up."
The most dreadful movie I have ever been conned into watching (my last go with "well we all want to watch it".) was "Alien"--which the quote above calls to mind.
And the captcha ("word verification" is something we all have to put up with.
"C4P needs to have a weekly "The Best Of Shannyn Moore" with clips from
her Saturday evening talk show on KBYR (Eddie Burke's station)."
Ick. No, it does not. It does not even need to have report about it.
We need a "Do Not Fly" List:
Deviant Loserman
Andi Sullivan
Shammy Moore
I love all the armchair attorneys here. You're all experts. Doesn't take a genius to know that reporting that a rumor has been circulating is not slander. Silly lemmings. If Sarah puts herself in the position of being deposed, that will be VERY foolish indeed.
Whoa...you got that wrong. Moore is the one that needs to be worried.
And. A. Mitchell didn't fly to Ak.
to give a 3 min. report in front of Sarah's house. Someone probably convinced her these rumors were going to be true. Wonder who that might have been.
IMO whether Palin sues an insignificant witch like Moore or not doesn't really matter. Her attorney has put the MSM on notice that THEY are going to be held accountible for the lies they spread. Even rabid MSNBC has lawyers who are reluctant to allow their house fools like Olbermann and Schuester continue to spread refuted lies. No longer can the pundits continue to excuse spreading the lie now that it has been publically called untrue. Thus S.Moore loses her national outlet and once again becomes the nasty spiteful busybody she was before.
Why is it so hard to understand that Palin may feel she can contribute more to the advancement of conservative positions outside the strangling constraints Alaskans have put on her? Name any other governor who has complaints whenever they venture outside their atate? IMO it isn't we in the lower 48 who are in a bubble it is Alaska who seems to be stuck in a bubble of the past.
ARe we so used to politicians doing ANYTHING to stay in office that we can't understand someone who is willing to look at a bigger picture? Apparently some Alaskans who "supposedly" were Palin supporters are indeed upset that "she no longer brings bagels to the legislators" as stated in the AP article from Juneau I read in today's paper.
In response to Eric's diatribe above, let's see; by those standards, Obama quit his job to run for state Senate, Obama quit the state Senate to run for the national Senate, and Obama quit the national Senate to run for President.
Why do you not call him a quitter, Eric?
Answer: Because you apply two different sets of rules, which makes you a hypocrite.
Next example:
Do you ever hear about Mrs. Bush or Mrs. Obama sitting in on government meetings?
Yup. Indeed, Michelle Obama and her attempts to manipulate government are why Barack Obama is in hot water for violating the law he co-sponsored about firing Inspectors General. Her staff brags about how they "coordinate" so that Michelle Obama can sit in on government meetings.
So why do you not make an issue of that, Eric?
Answer: Because you apply two different sets of rules, which makes you a hypocrite.
You are demonstrating the main issue here, though. Governor Palin realized that she was playing in a game in which the other side was blatantly cheating. She chose to change the game.
Your screams of "quitter" are the same ones you hear from a bratty five-year-old when nobody wants to play with them any more because they cheat and lie and don't play fair. Adults realize that.
Then again, no one ever accused liberals of being adults. Indeed, their entire ideology is based on childishness and dependency.
I was confused about the lawsuit angle; I had heard she could sue NOW, while still in office, and so wondered why she warn them and not just sue outright.
Someone made it clear that she could only sue after leaving office.
Now, we wait to see if she will, because they're too stupid to shut up.

You're right, you can't sue over rumors because, by definition, you tend to not know who starts rumors. Stating, as Moore did, that Palin's corrupt and that she can prove it is far different from mere rumor, and is actionable.
(btw, it's funny how Moore played up the stupid "they're just rumors" angle in her press conference...that means she's already crapping her pants)
Also - why would Palin threaten to sue if the last thing she wants is a day in court? She knows people like you and Moore won't shut up and will call her bluff. Her team is not that stupid. If Moore keeps mouthing off after Palin leaves office, she can and should be sued, and she'd lose.
@KentonAK,
"The previous comments from "RealAlaskan" irked me.
He was speaking ONLY FOR HIMSELF in his criticisms of Governor Palin's decision..."
I said before that most all of my friends who are conservative feel the same way I do. I suppose that jibes with the percentages you threw out there too, that it seems 60% of those who supported Sarah before friday still support her.
Look, respectfully, I'm just saying how it is in my circle. And like I said, we lean heavy Libertarian but vote GOP most of the time. Some of us were AIP members at one point too. We all voted for Wally. Anyway, again, I will pray for Sarah and her family, and will support them here however I can, but I will never again vote for Sarah for any public office unless there is something more to her resignation that explains things. I just can't condone quitting at this point.
If I could I would just like to offer some advice that is on par with what LarrySheldon is saying. I really think that giving lip service to liberal bloggers like Moore isn't good for this site. Why give them the publicity? Sometimes I think we're our own worst enemy. Just let it go. Sarah could have used that advice I think many times, to not take the bait dangled out there and make a big deal of things.
Sorry about the meaninless clutter after my no-fly list.
I forgot to look under the cursor.
More ick.
And for the sea lawyers out there...Yes, she can sue.
In the American system, you can sue over anything, or even nothing.
Prevailing is not a cinch, but....
And while I am not a lawyer (I am related to one--a damn fine one, if I may say so), I am of the opinion that the tort of "libel" is "An untruthful statement about a person, published in writing or through broadcast media, that injures the person's reputation or standing in the community."[1]
So I would guess that if she decides to sue, the likelihood is high that she will prevail.

heh. My oija board needs a spell-checker. The Captcfha is "culpail". Obviously meant "culpable"
The following are the ACTUAL words used by Shannyn Moore...
"For weeks the rumors of a criminal investigation against the governor have been brewing. They are rumors, but are swirling fresh again with Palin's resignation."
and further down the page...
"Rumors of an "iceberg scandal" have been circulating."
In those 3 sentences she never mentions the FBI or an investigation. She simply states that rumors have been brewing; which in all probability is true. Rumors seem to trail Palin just like stink trailed Pig Pen in the Charlie Brown comic strip.
The mere fact that someone mentions that rumors are brewing is not defamation of character or libel.
Palin as usual is being overly sensitive and acting unprofessional.
She seems to love to call the ethics complaints filed against her "frivolous", well if this threat to sue Shannyn Moore, Huffo and the rest of the list isn't FRIVOLOUS, I don't what is.
Palin couldn't take the heat so she quit. Good, great, she proved she was inadequate and couldn't take the heat in the kitchen. So be it.
Just sayin, as SO many of you here have, get your facts straight.
And remember, when you point one finger at someone else, 3 are pointing back at You.

Justify the following for me PLEASE...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nC-tOzXQOsk
Sarah saying that Hillary Clinton shouldn't be whining about the media coverage... which is all Palin has done since the 08 campaign...
This is consistent HOW??? She is whining why???
RealAlaskan-
I'm fairly knowledgeable about the AIP.They intrigued me at one point.
Though never an official member I attended meetings back in the 90's and shook Joe Voegler's hand.
(Intelligent man,but could be a REALLY nasty SOB when he wanted to be;Which is probably what got him killed.)
When Joe disappeared,I remember all the "WHERE'S JOE" signs around Fairbanks...
(Along with ALL the conspiracy theories saying the FEDS did Joe in,etc..).
And I was there the day Alaska Troopers caught Voegler's REAL killer,Manfred West in the burned-out house on Farmer's Loop Rd.
And recall the headlines when Voegler's body was discovered off of Chena Hot Springs Rd.
The AIP has/had many reputable members but never was good at screening out the criminal,anti-government extremists, and just plain screw-balls...
(Example:I remember the crack-house in the 90's the Fairbanks police busted that was run by 3 AIP members)
Why Lynette Clark never tried to keep a tight rein on members is beyond me...
I RAN,not walked away from the AIP in the early 90's..
I like Ron Paul, but he also attracts a fair number of the extremist/conspiracy crowd.
You supported Paul enough to vote for him in November.
You've never voted for Palin.
Wouldn't your time here be better served at a Ron Paul site?
I don't go to Ron Paul,Romney or Obama sites...Waste of my time because I support Sarah/Gov Palin.
Addendum:
I've watched our gov's complete resignation speech 5 times
(not the EDITED MSM version, but the one on the state's web-site).
I'm at completely at peace with her announcement. And also at peace with wherever God Leads her.
She can do MUCH more outside the constraints of governorship.
Alaska's in good hands with Sean Parnell.
And GOD-SPEED to Gov Palin!
KentonAK,
what about the AIP during the time Todd had be a member? And is there any evidence he participated in whatever they did, good or bad ?
Bill in Baltimore-
Re:Your question about the AIP.
In the 90's the Alaska ballot was confusing (to put it mildly)
I know many Alaskans who checked the 'Alaska Independent Party' box thinking they were checking the 'Independent/Unaffiliated' Box...
(They never knew until they began getting 'AIP' literature in the mail)
This is what Todd also has said.
KentonAk,
thank you.
postergirl is stuck on this and I needed some info to get back to her.
Bill in Baltimore-
You can ask 'postergirl' to talk to me.
(But if she doesn't believe Governor Palin's explanation she's certainly not going to believe an 'Ordinary Barbarian' Alaskan like myself)
