UPDATED: God and Gov. Palin: Why "They" Can't Stand Either One
(H/T Rick A. Evans)
From Stuart Schwartz via American Thinker:

UPDATE by J. Smith: Dr. Schwartz also included, as one of his many links within the piece, Gov. Palin's speech to the Lincoln Day Dinner in which she discusses God and prayer. This will sound very familiar:
From Stuart Schwartz via American Thinker:
Sarah Palin loves God. God loves Sarah Palin.
And that is why they hate her...and Him.
And why she -- and He -- will be back.
That love, an essential part of her everyday life, holds out the hope of a return to the nation envisioned by the unapologetically spiritual generation that birthed the U.S. Like Ronald Reagan, of whom it was said that his relationship with God "had a profound affect on how he lived, on what he did, and on those around him," Sarah Palin's spirituality has affected every part of her life, allowing her to clearly recognize the evil that has leached into our political and media culture.
[...]
She looks at Washington and knows, instinctively and with gut-wrenching clarity, that what is happening is not just wrong...it is immoral. Following her resignation as governor, she told Time magazine -- to the amusement of its editors -- that the growing of government "outrageously" by President Obama is "immoral." She deliberately chose a God word that suggests evil, a word that belongs -- in the words of journalist Christopher Hitchens, the atheist darling of both elite right and left -- to "the superstitious, fearful childhood of the race" because she has a visceral reaction to the mountains of debt being piled on future generations.
Like Hitchens, the Time editors believe the "religious part of our brain is part of the less highly evolved bit" and so she touched off a new round of sneers. Conservative Jonah Goldberg summed up the elite reaction to her continuing to pass judgment on the media and political class: You're "whining," you're "blowing it," just shut up (which is the civilized National Review's equivalent of The New York Times label of "one nutty puppy," which in turn is more civilized than MSNBC terming her a "delusional lunatic," which is heads above the liberal award-winning website Wonkette, which described her as "batshit-insane"). And Peggy Noonan, the former Reagan speechwriter who laments the decline of our social values while sipping half-caf nonfat lattes with quintessential liberal elite journalist Leslie Stahl of CBS and actress Candice Bergen (of Dan Quayle-is-a-Bible-thumping-ignoramus fame), did what Peggy Noonan does: take 1,200 words to again cruelly label Palin an idiot.
[...]
And therein rests the problem with our elite: God is an intimate part of her life. He is not a tool to be used at the appropriate time to convince the governed that you, too, can "cling to guns or religion," as Obama described praying America to San Francisco grandees during the campaign. This God stuff sets off our privileged classes, which refuse to acknowledge that anyone -- especially someone who did a road movie with Charlton Heston -- has authority over them. And so they scream. The Washington Post, dismayed by her spirituality, trotted out a minister who said Palin "lacks ministerial preparation and theological education" to speak about God. Neither the minister nor the newspaper editors noticed that few of God's significant others -- from Abraham to Moses to Jesus to Paul -- have Harvard Divinity School degrees.
Please, read the rest here.

Love. That. Picture.
O/T, but here's a article in NYT regarding the pressures she was facing and how Fred Malek tried to help out. I laughed at the lawmaker who said Palin use to bring him cupcakes for his birthday. Reminds me of the whole bagel issue.
From the article it seemed she had a lot of pressures from the state and national level.

Oh, brother. Those lawmakers are serious babies. What will they do without Mamma?
Interesting that even in this speech. She was laying hints for the future. I think it would be funny to make Palin bagel tee-shirts. Something like Bagels for Sarah or I get my own bagels.
The problem snobs have:
"If there is a God, does that mean that I am not God?"
What a scary thought for them.
As for me:
Today at church, the sermon was about what Sarah faced and faces. Many sermons are. Most are. The minister probably doesn't know that. (Sarah isn't mentioned.) I gain insight into Sarah in church. I learn how she thinks by learning what God said. I listen and apply God's teaching to Sarah, and learn how to apply it to me. Sarah helps me learn about God. Sarah inspires me, spiritually.
If you want to know Sarah, go to your church. You will find her spirit there.
Torrey,
"I get my own bagels."
Oh, we've got to do it. And send one to Ramras!
Sarah Palin loves God. God loves Sarah Palin.
It isn't an exclusive relationship. God loves everyone.
But secularists have inserted themselves into those statements.
Self is god. Self loves god.
It's all about self. That is why her resignation speech is so confounding to them. There has to be another motive than the ones she gave.
Right, Nancy. Surrendering to the love and forgiveness of Christ takes humility, trust, and faith. Those are things this country needs more of.
Torrey,
The citizen-reformer?
Nancy,
I love all your posts but that one is top notch.
great post "A".
I am glad you are here.
Thanks for this Post!!
The wonderful thing that is on display for everyone to see is that the intimae relationship Palin has with the Lord gives her strength, security and sets her free to speak the truth. It must be hard for a secular elite to feel that they always have to prove themselves and be "on stage" all the time and they see Palin with her poise and grace.
At least she's not following Alan Keyes and his statements.
What an excellent article. All politicians need to be prayed for, however I find myself praying for Governor Palin more than for any other politician. She has been so attacked yet has withstood it all with the grace she has been blessed with. When I first head about those "iceberg" rumours I got quite worried for her - all the way over here in NZ! - Then I thought - God is looking after this woman and we don't need to worry. Isn't it amazing that some are still trying to attribute some other motive to the resignation other than those she has given? A politician speaking the truth with selfless motives is just too much for her detractors to swallow. They are not able to recognise honesty or sincerity anymore.
Check out V.O.'s battle with the TPM far-left radical on Twitter, hahahaha.
Thank you Gelston, your encouragement encourages me.
As I posted earlier today at another blogspot:
<<
In her "rambling" resignation speech, Gov. Palin actually used an age-old preaching tool: "ladling the gravy." Clergy begin by mentioning their main topic, then AFTER EACH accompanying EXAMPLE or point, they once again mention the main point, before moving on to the next example. This technique helps people remember the MAIN point of the sermon (ie. "the gravy").
My, I wonder why the MSM is so unfamiliar with this COMMON preaching tool!?
(HA!)
>>
And A, Obama and his disciples aren't merely snotty; they're dangerous, narcissistic meglomaniacs.
Thanks for this post! One of the many reasons I admire Gov. Sarah is for her unabashed faith. She doesn't try to proselytize, but she isn't ashamed of her faith either.
One of my favorite quotes from her comes from her interview with Human Events: "But my reliance on seeking God’s direction in all that I do -- that is good enough for me".
The elites see complexity as the highest level of intelligence. So when Gov. Sarah talks of a "simple" faith or wants to make government simple, they do not understand, and they ridicule her for being unintelligent and unsophisticated.
During my minister's sermon on Sunday, he referenced a verse that reminded me of Gov. Sarah:
I Corinthians 1:18-20, 25
"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: 'I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.' Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?...For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength."
I don't want to put the Governor on a pedestal. She is far from perfect, just as we all are. But, it is simply refreshing to see a person in such a public role who is willing to admit their reliance on God and is willing to seek Him. The "philosophers of this age" (Noonans, Frums, and many liberals/elites) may not get it, and that's ok-- the world's "wisdom" is not supposed to.
Yes. God is everywhere. Like a radio that operates on a higher frequency, in order to hear you must tune into another station. So if you just don't "get" Sarah, try tuning into a higher frequency and then you might be able to hear radio station S A R A H with just a little more clarity!
This is one special lady.
My observation from last fall remains intact:
1. an abstract application of the Valley of Dry Bones, Ezekial 37:1 – 14, especially
"and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet--a vast army"
2. Acts 5:39
"But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men;
you will only find yourselves fighting against God."
Energy Independence:
http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/07/13/turkey.gas.pipeline/index.html
Alaska has got lots of this oil and gas. US should support AGIA, support other options in the US instead of financing Nabucco.
more on energy independence:
http://www.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idUSTRE56C1VN20090713
Turkmenistan wants Iran to join in the US gas pipe deal despite US disapproval of Iran.
Remember Turkey didn't allow US use its territory to attack Iraq. Lesson to be learnt there is that until US begins to develop her own energy, there will never be the independence.
Correction: Turkey and not Turkmenistan wants Iran to be joined in the deal. However, Turkmenistan is also part of the Nabucco agreement that is backed by US...
I read the American Thinker article before Church yesterday, so the preacher’s sermon was easily applicable to Governor Palin; his speaking about tribulations as investments in a mature faith. Everyone experiences troubles but God’s grace enables us to seek his face and stand above these current tribulations.
Our current President lacks the maturity and faith that is needed to lead our country because he lacks this essential faith in God, he's unable to handle even friendly criticism let alone protect us from those that would inflict harm on our nation. While Obama’s evil minions haunt Sarah Palin’s every step with scornful criticism and contemptible lies, God is using these very tribulations to prepare Sarah to be the leader of our nation. Most people are unaware of the change and blessing that a righteous and tested leader would bring to our country. But can anyone here imagine Washington not praying on bent knee in the snow, before leading his ragged patriots in battle.
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” Joh 16:33
“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” Rom 5:1-5
That's my favorite picture of hers.
Great article.
"Sarah Palin loves God. God loves Sarah Palin."
"And that is why they hate her...and Him."
Utterly preposterous. And you know it.
Sarah must Know, there are NO atheists in foxholes!
But the evil lies in those that send our sons and daughters out to die for greed and oil then try to pass it off as some HONORABLE purpose!!!
there were NO Taliban in Iraq. 911 was caused by Taliban and mostly from Saudi ARabia!!!
Those that continue to give Cheney a pass then try to put GOD in there are fools!
NOT those that have true belief.
And also, Cheney is an elite, so is Poppy Bush. I think there is a Prescott (nazi sympathizer?) Bush? Cheney made sooo much money off Halliburton OFF of the WAR. Argh ! We must NOT be hypocrites. If we have a chance at all we must NOT be seen as exactly what THEY have turned in to............. blind lemming hypocrites for their own side!
just my rant for today
I was very pleased that Gov. Palin decided to step down from the Governor's office. I look forward to the possibility of reading weekly commentaries about the serious issues facing our country. Conservatism needs a strong voice, one not tied to encumbancy. As I often tell my patients when discussing education, that they must always learn "outside the box", I now feel the a Mrs. Palin will be able to apply the same principle as becomes a significant voice for an independent, conservative, movement directed at recovering lost ground in the last 40-60 years. With the speed which the Obama administration is moving to remove our constitutional republican form of government, time is of the essence. Mrs. Palin will have more time to address the issues directly without strings attached. I am 68 years old, practicing pediatrics or over 35 years (29 plus as solo), and this may be my last hurrah to fight for the cause of freedom. As a Christian I want to see our nation continue as a Constitutional Republic, with the freedoms established by our founding fathers, so that the preaching of the Gospel can continue. I am happy that I found this blog and I will be watching daily to follow the progress of Sarah Palin.
Pierre C. LeMaster, M.D.
The other Hussein supported terrorist...terrorist attack America...current President Hussein gives pass to terrorist and dictators…they are free to do what they may…duh I don’t get it. It must be for greed and oil.
So, she use the word "immoral", eh?
But wait, didn't Al Gore use "immoral" about Global Warming?
Just depends on whose "morals" you are referencing!
Wow! So many great comments!
A,
@2:02, I pray for Governor Palin after a sermon, and think about her when pondering a spiritual point. Thank you for that post, I am with you!
J.Smith,
Thank your for this post. I agree what Governor Palin lives in surrendering to God is so, so needed in our country. Thank you for your hard work and all you do to make this website so awesome!
Gelston,
Thank you for your encouraging words!
M Minnesota,
Great comments, both posts. Really, really good thoughts!
CliffNZ,
I agree! Love your comment!
Illinois Conservative (Whitney),
Your comment and those verses were excellent. Thank you!
FredHeadBill,
@8:16, "Using these tribulations to prepare Sarah to be the leader of our nation." I pray this will be so! Thank you for your thoughts! Excellent!
Pierre C. LeMaster, M.D.,
Thank you for joining C4P with your comment! It was right on! Keep them coming!
"Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will lift you up." James 4:10
Since Sarah is humble before the Lord, we can count on the Lord to lift her up, in spite of all the opposition, to whatever postion he has in his will and plan for her. (I hope and pray it's POTUS one day).
I can't remember the exact words, but Noonin in her ridiculous article accused Sarah of not
being able to "think as the left-wing thinks", or words to that effect. I doubt very much that this is true - let's face it, if Sarah didn't know what and how he opponents think she sure has found out over the past 10 months. It's because of how they think and what they do that she is able to lay out a clear alternative path (to both the both the current administration and the last administration.)
Ironically, it's because the MSM/atheist crowd doesn't understand how believers think, that they don't "get" Sarah, nor understand her appeal. Many ordinary folk who share her faith "get" her and may well propel her to POTUS one day.
"supporting terrorists"
ok then by THAT way of thinking we should kill off anyone who supported Timothy McVie (also a terrorists)???
U must be joking! We should be knocking off Iran and North Korea, Pakistan, etc, etc? Just because of who they hang with and support?
There would be no one left
ok back when I was hanging with the dnc (puke) this was one "legend" that was always being said about the far religious right trying to "cause their own armaggedon" spelled wrong sorry
that's not true right?
The reason that the enemies of our country attack Christianity is that if God can be marginalized or removed from our society, their hope is that we will be forced to accept our rights from the government (which would also be able to take them away). It is a huge impediment (for them) to government control and transnationalism.
ps. JohninCanada nice quote!
Well, we have a pediatrician and a geriatric doctor on board (me).
People here don't need to worry.
Both you first childhood and your second childhood can be taken care of right here.
Gelston, thank you for your medical services. Since I don't have health insurance, I appreciate all the free services I can get.
I also appreciate Sarah's spirituality. I do not consider myself religous so much as spiritual. I honor all paths that are in the light and lead to the Godhead, aka union or enlightenment.
I so appreciate Sarah praying before making decisions and following what she knows is "right" not necessarily beneficial to herself.
It would be nice to have a righteous soul as president.
God Talk
Isn't it interesting, when God is brought into the conversation, the substance of any issue rises to a higher plane... except for those who hate edifying God talk... and hate the thought of saying anything that will edify Sarah Palin too?
I guess all Sarah needs to do to bring God into the conversation and lift the public discourse to a higher plane (and unintentionally set off the God and Sarah haters) is, in EVERY speech she gives, quote Pres. Washington, Pres. Lincoln and of course Pres. Reagan when THEY quote THEIR favorite scripture verses.
The God and Sarah haters won't be able to accuse Sarah of being a God LOVER without also demeaning the US Presidents who also believed and prayed.
I don't recall previous Presidents quoting the Islamic Qur'an on an equal footing with the Christian bible, but if Sarah quoted the Qur'an in today's climate where sharia law is being touted as superior to democracy, maybe that will mollify the God and Sarah haters...
... because they would not want to offend the Muslim community...
... it is OK to offend the Christian and Jewish communities, but not the Muslim community.
That is a 1st amendment issue that future US Presidents (maybe Sarah Palin) will definitely be forced to deal with... shariah law compliance will demand it... or else... and don't give any lip about it either if you know what's good for you (for that insight, thank you Robert Spencer of www.JihadWatch.org).
Ruth said...
"if God can be marginalized or removed from our society, their hope is that we will be forced to accept our rights from the government"
Put the crack pipe away. Our "rights" were granted to us through the U.S. Constitution.
In case you weren't aware, non believers enjoy the same rights as everyone else. It has nothing to do with God.
John, your crayons are getting as dull as your perspective!
A political genius she is, unconventional and unabashedly answering to a higher power for strength and wisdom.
Eat your heart out all you bashers of no faith and courage, keep looking at the hollowness looking back at you in the mirror every day, the person you see is as good as it will ever be as long as you keep doing the same things you are doing now.
Dawnelle,
I write from the perspective of a person with one foot in the worls of atheism and the other in a conservative brand of Protestantism. I doubt anyone here wants to bring about Armageddon, and we are not predicting the end of days. The Book of Revelations describes certain events that are to take place before the end of days, including war, so any time war breaks out many Christians discuss whether these events are the ones described. But no one really hopes that the world will end soon. I at least would like my children to experience the fullness of their lives and would not want it abrogated.
Don't let Leftist slams against religious people define your understanding of religious people. Thanks for the question.
Great comments, all (almost all).
J.Smith: thanks for posting the article. Will look out for future articles by Dr. Schwartz. Right on.
Gelston: well put, and I know exactly what you are saying.
Eph 6:10-13 (NIV):
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand."
Sarah is doing just that. She's in the heat of the struggle - political, but more essentially spiritual. Her heart is pure and very strong. She walks in divine grace and power. Thank God for her life and commitment.
Keep on keepin' on, C4P. Tremendous work. Thanks!
John,
Hare you even READ what the founding father's wrote??? Doubt it.
The Constitution is just a piece of paper written by men. If we all depended upon the whims of men (no matter how noble) then we're doomed to their darker sides as well. A piece of paper can be erased, burned and altered to suit the whims of every clique, fad or fashion. That would be disastrous.
No. The founders (and many of us today) believed that our rights and freedoms come from "Natural Law"...the laws from God. These are rights (and duties) that can never be taken away because all humans, no matter race, creed or region, have the same yearnings to be free.
The Constitution is only a reflection of those desires and is a byproduct of centuries of ancient & former governments, successes and failures.
