Gov. Palin: Happy 4th of July from Alaska!

This statement was taken from Governor Palin's FaceBook account:

On this Independence Day, I am so very proud of all those who have chosen to serve our great nation and I honor their selflessness and the sacrifices of their families, too.

If I may, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the last 24 hours and share my thoughts with you.

First, I want to thank you for your support and hard work on the values we share. Those values led me to the decision my family and I made. Yesterday, my family and I announced a decision that is in Alaska’s best interest and it always feels good to do what is right. We have accomplished more during this one term than most governors do in two – and I am proud of the great team that helped to build these wonderful successes. Energy independence and national security, fiscal restraint, smaller government, and local control have been my priorities and will remain my priorities.

For months now, I have consulted with friends and family, and with the Lieutenant Governor, about what is best for our wonderful state. I even made a few administrative changes over that course in time in preparation for yesterday. We have accomplished so much and there’s much more to do, but my family and I determined after prayerful consideration that sacrificing my title helps Alaska most. And once I decided not to run for re-election, my decision was that much easier – I’ve never been one to waste time or resources. Those who know me know this is the right decision and obvious decision at that, including Senator John McCain. I thank him for his kind, insightful comments.

The response in the main stream media has been most predictable, ironic, and as always, detached from the lives of ordinary Americans who are sick of the “politics of personal destruction”. How sad that Washington and the media will never understand; it’s about country. And though it's honorable for countless others to leave their positions for a higher calling and without finishing a term, of course we know by now, for some reason a different standard applies for the decisions I make. But every American understands what it takes to make a decision because it’s right for all, including your family.

I shared with you yesterday my heartfelt and candid reasons for this change; I’ve never thought I needed a title before one’s name to forge progress in America. I am now looking ahead and how we can advance this country together with our values of less government intervention, greater energy independence, stronger national security, and much-needed fiscal restraint. I hope you will join me. Now is the time to rebuild and help our nation achieve greatness!

God bless you! And I look forward to making a difference – with you!

Sarah

McCain is the bridge to the RINO's once she is nominated. Remember she will have to unite the party and make sure everybody is on the same page for beating Obama.

McCain will help her do that.

God bless Sarah and her wonderful family!

Just catching up on all the news. Sarah made the best decision for herself and her family regardless of what others think.

I guess it was unrealistic of us to expect her to accomplish all the tasks she had facing her -

*being full time Governor of Alaska (not just giving lip service)
*spending enough time to develop and write her book so that she turns out a quality well written work
*heading and running Sarah Pac so it becomes an effective political organization
*fghting all these groundless ethics complaints (she said 80% of her time was taken up for this)
*being a mother of five including special needs child
*keeping her marriage together

Something had to give. It would be one thing if she had more support from the Alaska Republicans or the national GOP or even Women's Organizations but they were undermining her and joining in the blood sport at every level.

This way Sarah can focus on her book, spend quality time with her family, study and prepare for 2012 without all these distractions. I didn't realize how much of a toll these ethics complaints took on Sarah, her family and her staff.

It pained and saddened me to hear her speak about how she was unable to do her job as governor (a job she loved) because of her political enemies. When a job or a relationship become pointless then it is time to move on. Now Sarah's enemies can all Stick It where the Sun don't Shine!

Can't wait to see SarahPac's numbers now. Happy 4th everyone!!

She's got 100% of my support if she runs, but I don't see this as the clear announcement others are seeing. A hint, a tease, maybe, but maybe she's seeking another path to reach the same goal.

Instead, "....our hearts are in the trim!"

Puma for Life July 4, 2009 6:06 PM

I've been thinking about that three weeks notice she gave; normally, for a management position, you would give four weeks. Then I got to thinking about how the amount of money in both her defense fund and pac has to be reported by the end of the month. So, let me see, she wants to be out of office when the figures are announced. Why? Well,my theory is that she collected enough money in her defense fund to pay down a good portion of the legal fees (I hope all) and perhaps a large amount in her pac. So, she might want to be out of office when the figures are announced; for one thing, if she's paid down the legal fees, she doesn't want to start accumulating them again. And if she has a ton of money in her pac, what good is it if she can't go anywhere? What do you guys think? Three weeks is an odd time frame for a notice, hey, I'm leaving.

McCain appears supportive of her decision to resign: http://tinyurl.com/mm9cr2

from the article:
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican Senator John McCain expressed support for his former presidential running mate, Sarah Palin, on Saturday as Washington speculated about why the Alaska governor abruptly announced her resignation.

Uffda July 4, 2009 6:32 PM

Debtstar,

I honestly don't know, she didn't specify (probably will in her book). Someone on Fox said it was Todd (like they would know), so I ran with that.

gardunne63 July 4, 2009 6:32 PM

I say the Sarah numbers are in the 12 to 15 million dollar range.

I think she's known for a while that they would be in this range at the end of July. She knows she can quadruple the numbers very quickly if she's allowed to leave the schoolyard of Alaskan politics.

The RNC will not have to worry about 2010 fundraising. (It will still peeve me to no end to see her used the Dead White Male Society of the Republican Party.)

The Fairbanks fair is at the end of July and like Sean Parnell said, she started in Fairbanks and wanted to end it in Fairbanks. And I think July 4th weekend was a great time to make the announcement. Very symbolic....

It was after the June 30th day and you are right she will be out of there by the time the amounts are announced... I do agree, what is the sense of having the money in sarahpac and not be able to use it.

Pumaforlife, I thought of that too. SarahPAC's numbers will be out within a few days of her resignation. My suspecion is that the amount raised and the number of donors will be excellent. It will be the next really big story. I read earlier that she will be attending an event in California on August 8th, the first of maybe hundreds over the next few years.

There is some really masterful PR work being done now. I really enjoy seeing the cluelessness of the media elite trying to figure out what the hell is going on. This isn't politics as usual, not by a long shot, anything outside the box is always confusing for those who live inside the box.

Just like here, over at Free Republic there is a huge response to her 4th of July statement, I can feel the ground shaking with the tramp of so many boots on the ground in General Palin's Army as it assembles for battle.

wjshipley July 4, 2009 7:17 PM

As yesterday's announcement has been sinking in, I've been more and more thinking about the fact that this is not preparing her for 2012, this is preparing he for 2010!

She is a Republican fundraising and campaigning star unlike I've ever seen. She needs to be in the game for the 2010 elections helping us improve our house position, or even getting control. The country depends on it.

After 2010, she can get ready for 2012. I've always thought that heavy involvement in 2010 mid-terms would be a key part of her plan. I just didn't realize how bold she would be about it. And, really, how else could she have the freedom to do it.

What Else was She Supposed to Do?

1)"It's almost never the right time for a leader to resign-except when no other decision makes sense."

TRANSLATION: Obama and his war room and the MSM overreached in making Sarah a permanent punching bag. They did not see this coming.

2)"...the declining value of the Palin Governorship..."

TRANSLATION: why allow yourself to be politically marginalized from national politics any further?

3)"The main objectives of her administration...have already been achieved..."

TRANSLATION: My record is good enough to run for POTUS on

4)"...Palin has been unable to take full advantage of her many opportunities...without being accused of neglecting her responsiblities..."

TRANSLATION: You cannot shortchange preparing for the Presidency and building your organization and infrastructure and getting your ducks in a row and still remain a viable candidate

5)"Nor can or should the demands of her family life be easily discounted...as well as being...political celebrity/lightning rod...the advantages of becoming a private citizen were becoming more clear"

Being a civilian affords more protection for her family and as civilian and moving target affords her more protection as well

She wants to be out of office before they are released. I think that the Pac #'s are big, although I will not speculate an amount. I think if Sarah was still in office went they came out all h*** would break lose. Yet another distraction keeping her from doing AK's job.

Her Dad taught her she has to earn everything she gets. I imagine she would not even dream of staying on as governor, earning a check while instead dealing with ethics complaints and then these big Pac numbers would have the MSM and Obama war room pulling out even more stops. Her Dad would not be pleased, he did not raise her like that.

I am so glad her book deal allows her to do this. She will have money to live on while not working since she is the main breadwinner.

Obviously if Sarah is going to have a Congress that is not totally antagonistic towards her program when she becomes POTUS in 2012 she needs a favorable result in the 2010 midterms first.

Having said that the 2010 midterms will determine if she is truly the 'leader of the Republican Party'. If she is, she will have no problem securing the nomination and move on to take on Obama. The 2010 midterms will be a watershed moment in Palin's political career as well as for the nation.

It's invasive.

It's corrupt.

It's rigged.

It's unconstitutional.

Its purpose is the legislative transformation of the United States of America into a land where conservatives, Christians, and Caucasians will become political castratos.

It is biased and prejudicial.

It serves to channel billions of dollars into bogus political action groups, such as Acorn.

It promotes gay rights and same-sex marriages.

It is a document that was not something drafted by the Berkley chapter of the Barbra Streisand Fan Club or the Alec Baldwin wing of the American Civil Liberties Union.

It is President Barack Obama's 2010 Census Form.

There would be no way she could have done that and still ran for re-election. The MSM would have crucified her for being absent from the state campaign and I always made the point no woman can serve two masters or juggle two sets of policies while jetting back and forth between Alaska and the lower 48.

"THANK YOU SARAH FROM A 27 YEAR ALASKAN FAMILY. YOU'VE MADE US PROUD AND WE WILL SUPPORT YOU ALL THE WAY." My blog placed on several discussions follows:

Gov. Sarah Palin's resignation is a great political move for her & our country. Once they thought about it, the majority of Alaskans are actually proud of Sarah Palin for taking first steps towards 2012. This was an appropriate day (Independence Day eve); for her to take some time with her family, focus on immediate strengthening of state and national objectives; all without having her hands tied by holding political office. If Congress and the Obama Team can announce things like the "Cap & Trade Energy Bill" on a Friday; as they have done many other major sneak through bills; then why can't our Governor let the local media know her news first and on a Friday? She also wasn't taking up state time to do it; as she did it on a national holiday and wasn't at work, so no ethics violation. The mainstream media is going crazy with this, like a pack of dogs chasing their tails. Keep on surprising them Sarah.

Our nation is finally waking up to the realities of the Nov. 08 election results and now we want our country back. Sarah is not a quitter, but instead a fighter who thinks outside of the box. She is the square peg that won’t be forced into the round hole; a “complex conservative” (coin termed by my spouse) that both political parties and the media can’t figure out; which is what scares them so much. She may be living outside of the continental United States now; but will end up taking the country by storm come 2012 and move to our country’s capitol.

Gov. Palin gave an excellent speech on Friday (without Speechwriters or Teleprompters); showing intelligence, good eye contact, speaking honestly and directly from her heart straight to the heart of the average American and didn’t require any hand holding (as she writes her own stuff). On the other hand, Obama pays his 28 year old speech writer $175,000.00 (one of the top paid people in Washington) and doesn’t normally do any speeches without a Teleprompter and his personal speechwriter. Think about it. Who is actually the better speaker, based on “their own merit”? Sarah is head of the pack without a doubt.

The mainstream media needs to report ALL statistics correctly and not falsely quote or intentionally misconstrue facts. The "Mainstream American" is beginning to see through the smoke and will now hold their feet to the fire; which is fixing to get really hot. All ethics charges were filed after her nomination for VP candidate and were pushed by the mainstream media’s attack on her and her family. The 15 false ethics charges (cases she has won) have been dropped. By stepping down, she will prevent millions more of state money spent in her defense and wasted time spent by state employees on defending more charges. Not one of them was proven valid, but continues to cost the Palins thousands from their personal budget.

Sarah is the opposite of Obama in so many ways; budget conscious, a supporter of capitalism, honest, supports our constitution, ethical, patriotic, believing in and not wanting to control her country and more. This is the opposite of Obama and multiple other governors & senators who have left their gubernatorial or congressional responsibilities gathering dust, continued drawing a paycheck from the government coffers, and traveling while in the process of running for higher political office. She can now spend days or weeks away from the state and will not do this on the public dime. What an unusual political candidate; a real, honest, hard-working, ethical, middle-class person; not wanting to waste her state’s money. WOW.
