John Gibson alerted his listeners that Governor Palin would be making an announcement today at 3:00 PM EST from her home in Wasilla.

George Stephanopoulos tweeted this:

We'll bring you more updates as soon as we have them.

UPDATE by VO:
Jonathan Martin at Politico is speculating too. Tammy Bruce will be live-blogging the announcement.

Whoa...wonder what's up?

gardunne63 July 3, 2009 2:16 PM

-She's pregnant again?
-She's converting to Moromonism because suddenly it's become the religion du jour of the open-mind, progressive chattering classes?
-She's really a closet Hillary fan who will work hard for Clinton's campaign in 2012?
-she's announcing that Piper will be filing an ethics complaint against Ramras?
-She's announcing her hit list of those RNC-backed candidates she will be taking down in 2010?
-She's announcing she's bloody fed up with America right now and is moving to Australia to tutelage under a true statesman, John Howard.
-She was really born in Manitoba, Canada mainly surprising her critics that she can find Canada on a map let alone pronounce it correctly.

Seriously, all plans I had this afternoon are now shot. Thanks 'Cuda.

Debtstar July 3, 2009 2:17 PM

Talk about cliffhanger.

TommyReport July 3, 2009 2:18 PM

She certainly knows how to build suspense!! :)

Bill in Baltimore July 3, 2009 2:19 PM

she'll say she's running for President of the United States of America, but first she has business to complete in Alaska, i.e., the rest of her term.

then you won't see her on the trail until (whatever the time is that she is done with governing AK)

TangledThorns July 3, 2009 2:21 PM

Could be just an Alaska state thing or something in praise of Independence Day. Media gets too hyped up. Nothing like a little excitement.

Patty Hewes July 3, 2009 2:22 PM

I want live coverage of this announcement!

wisetrog July 3, 2009 2:23 PM

If this is about her re-election, why is she making the announcement so early?

Could be about N.Korea.

Nancy July 3, 2009 2:25 PM

Don't give me that, Mitt, I know you're holding your breath!

Oh, look! The political world is on the edge of their seats. Hm, I thought she was a(n)________________, that no one thinks has a political future. Why do they care so darn much?:)

Bill in Baltimore July 3, 2009 2:26 PM

why so early ?

she can "run" for two years by proxy, not ignoring her AK duties, then have full campaign trail access starting when her duties are done. Not before.

Nande July 3, 2009 2:27 PM

Geesh! Why o' why do I check this site!?! I was perfectly content in my ignorance today. Siggghhh...

Guess I'll tune in at 1pm MST!

wisetrog July 3, 2009 2:29 PM

How long till the announcement so that I can stay awake for it? Is it going to be live TV?

Rosie July 3, 2009 2:30 PM

could it be sarahpac numbers?

Anne July 3, 2009 2:30 PM

Historically, would this pretty early to announce that you are/aren't running for re-election???

Just wondering what sitting Governors in the past have done...

I'm anxious!!

AmeriCuda July 3, 2009 2:31 PM

This announcement sponsored by ....SarahPac

Hurry maw, come quick! and bring the plastic payin' stick – it's donatin' time!

gardunne63 July 3, 2009 2:31 PM

She's announcing that SarahPac raised 40 million dollars in seven months and that she will be sending out the map for pilgrammage that all pundits and back-stabbing politicians will have to undergo to come up to Juneau or Wasilla to kiss her ring.

The pilgramage must take place during the months of Dec, Jan, and Feb and the pilgrammagers must make the last 30 miles of the trek on their knees.

For a final note, she'll announce that Rebecca Mansour will the treasurer SarahPac and will have full responsibility for handing out the funds to said politicians.

Bill in Baltimore July 3, 2009 2:32 PM

wonder what Chris Matthews is doing right now ????

Patty Hewes July 3, 2009 2:33 PM

Palin's running for the house seat!

My bet

or she isn't running at all.

Bill in Baltimore July 3, 2009 2:33 PM

no, wait, she's going to resign as Governor so she can study up . . .

Anonymoose July 3, 2009 2:34 PM

Anne July 3, 2009 2:35 PM

Some people on HotAir are joking that she's going to announce she's been unfaithful like Sanford just did.

haha.. not funny!

Greg July 3, 2009 2:35 PM

My wife and I left Monday morning on a little trip, came back Friday, and my inbox has about 150 Google Alerts, C4P has so much stuff I'll probably never catch up, and now this announcement.

Not sure what it is going to be, but I hope it is something big, that will dominate the news cycle all weekend, and into next week.

wisetrog July 3, 2009 2:35 PM

Please, how many hours more till its 3.00 est?

Nancy July 3, 2009 2:36 PM

Whatever it is, no one in the state run media will report on it accurately anyway. Oh yeah, it's live, so I guess they can't do too much damage. The ShMitts.

20 minutes.

Yogi41 July 3, 2009 2:40 PM

If it is as George speculates, not running for re-election, isn't it kind of early to announce? And on a holiday weekend?

Anne July 3, 2009 2:42 PM

what is worthy of an official announcement?

1-responding to the McCain camp attacks (she is reporting from Wasilla - neutral ground at her home.)

2-SarahPAC info/numbers (again, neutral ground at her home.)

3-gubernatorial run

4-something personal

5-something about the pipeline/a AK issue

Fox is still reporting this.... it's gonna be BIG!

Jenny July 3, 2009 2:42 PM

This should be a great presser!

Lol, someone at Hotair said, "She's going to announce that she's changing her name to the Politician Formerly known as Sarah Palin."

I thought that was pretty darn funny.

15 MINUTES!! I'm going to Tivo!

AmeriCuda July 3, 2009 2:47 PM

Nancy,
Maybe Sarah will take this opportunity of officially introduce her new ...ShMitt eating grin.

2012 here we come!

Yogi41 July 3, 2009 2:48 PM

I hate to be negative, but isn't Friday the day when you dump bad news? Especially a holiday weekend? I hope it's not personal and I hope it's not that "iceberg" story that other sites have been crowing about for months.

Sorry, foxnews live on internet.

Bill in Baltimore July 3, 2009 2:50 PM

Toki De La Vega July 3, 2009 2:51 PM

I hate stuff like this.

Hope it's not a terminal illness.

JohnDoeAt30Below July 3, 2009 2:51 PM

She's going to run against Don Young.

'Now that EXXON has signed on with AGIA, I have done all I can as Governor to ensure the energy future of Alaska and America. Now I need to go to Washington to make sure that this project succeeds as well as to fight for conservative values regarding health care, energy policy and national defense.'

Read the tea leaves:

1. Young heard rumors and already announced he would seek reelection.

2. Parnell would only commit to 'running for statewide office.'

3. Palin knows that a run against Lisa M would be tough and cost her a lot of support.

4. A House seat gives her a national platform. She can then hawk her book and her platform in '10 and plan for '12.

5. If she decides not to run for President in '12, she stays in the House and then runs against Begich in '14 and takes a run at the White House in '16.

JeanA July 3, 2009 2:51 PM

It is to early to announce that you are running for POTUS, right.

Anne July 3, 2009 2:52 PM

If in fact Sarah is not running for relection, would it be possible that there was a "leak", and this is the reason for all of the coordinated attacks this week?

Just a thought.

Everything could change in 10 minutes, folks. This is exciting!!

Huskers-For-Palin July 3, 2009 2:53 PM

A major press annoucement on a FRIDAY before the 4th?

Is this the typical "dumping groud" time?

Maybe it's to counter Frenchie and say she is running for Governor again in 2010.

Bill in Baltimore July 3, 2009 2:53 PM

Mountain Mama July 3, 2009 2:57 PM

It can't be horrible news; it's too planned. Don't you think it simply concerns whether or not she's running for Alaskan governor again? I pray that's all it is.

Mountain Mama July 3, 2009 3:02 PM

Okay, so what does it mean, that she's making her announcement from her HOME? Think it's to emphasize her family's needs, and that she has decided she WILL run for governor and stay in Alaska? Hmm.... Well, that wouldn't mean she couldn't later be persuaded by us, or by events, to run for president, right?
WHY is Fox News NOT training its cameras on her home RIGHT NOW!?

I want her to run again.

I personally think it would be a feather in her cap to get re-elected. She's shoe-in to win again!

Who knows, maybe she's just bowing out of politics if she decides not to run for reelec...

Mountain Mama July 3, 2009 3:12 PM

Okay, for ONCE Candy Crowly (sp?) is pretty fair to Sarah, saying that she might just be sick of the lousy press and the constant ethics violation charges. I've wondered how Sarah tolerates that crap, too.

OH, Fox News is finally giving us the news that she will NOT run for reelection.

Well, yeah! THE RACE IS ON!

Fox News is reporting that her polls have dropped 30+ points in Alask since the election. Chris Wallace agrees, btw, with the timing of her announcement. He says it raises questions about her future at all in politics. WHERE does he GET that view!?

And no, she is too wise to run for the Senate, where they will bury her in that all-too-seniority-oriented joint.

Nande July 3, 2009 3:12 PM

CNN Live is talking about this now. You can stream it.

They say the local Alaska stations can't get a live feed so no one has it up.

Rachael July 3, 2009 3:14 PM

Don't want to watch these guys speculate, want to hear from the Gov, this is frustrating. Chris Wallace looks nauseated.

**********Sarah does!******

Yogi41 July 3, 2009 3:18 PM

Chris Wallace says to him, it feels like she's getting out of politics for good. Says the timing of the announcement doesn't feel like a person who has national aspirations. Admits it's just his hunch, but that's what his gut is telling him.

Rachael July 3, 2009 3:18 PM

You know, I'm usually not one to make comments about what she does or doesn't do but it is a little annoying that she wouldn't make sure the world hears this from her lips and not CNN or FOX.

AmeriCuda July 3, 2009 3:19 PM

When Pawlenty announced he wasn't running again, one of the crickets in attendence had to report it.

I think Chris Wallace has been bitten by a FOX and given a frothy-faced case of PDS.

Anne July 3, 2009 3:19 PM

I would respect Palin if she wanted to shelf politics for good. I can't imagine how it must feel to be her sometimes.

But, then again..she has such amazing intuition and talents.. it would be great if she could give national politics a go.

I'm behind ya no matter what, Gov!

Debtstar July 3, 2009 3:21 PM

Didn't sarahpac go out this week to ask for money , i dont think she gives up.

Mountain Mama July 3, 2009 3:21 PM

Okay, if this conference wasn't planned correctly, such that live streaming is available to the news outlets, then maybe this IS some sort of horrible announcement. Now I'm getting worried. This doesn't sound like Sarah's current team, not planning this well.

Carl Cameron is right: if she isn't running for reelection, then she can have lots more time for campaigning, as well as be in charge of when she wants time off for her family. This is ALL GOOD (I hope!)!

The Pew Research Poll is she's 70%, THE most favored Republican. TAKE THAT, CNN! (They keep quoting lower polls, as did Fox News earlier today, emphasizing incorrectly ones where she ranked only 3rd or 4th, behind Huckabee (HA!) and Romney (HE WISHES) and someone else....?).

TommyReport July 3, 2009 3:22 PM

CCRWM July 3, 2009 3:23 PM

I think she needs to break from the Govenor job in order to effectively run for President. I also would not blame her if she is retiring from Politics. Really she would be doing us a favor if she became our President

Sarah Palin
Governor Sarah Palin speaking at a press conference announcing the 2010 fiscal budget. Monday, December 15, 2008. (KTVA)
At an 11:00 a.m. press conference today, Governor Sarah Palin announced that she would not seek a second term as governor. The governor continued saying in a few weeks she would resign the governorship.

On a day that most public employees have off, Palin sent out an early morning press release indicating that she would be giving an announcement from her home in Wasilla. Joining Palin were her parents, family and state commissioners.

Palin did not field questions and would not give any indications as to her future plans.

Palin announced that she will transfer power to Lt. Governor Sean Parnell. Parnell will be sworn in during the upcoming governor's picnic in Fairbanks.

Patty Hewes July 3, 2009 3:24 PM

woooo!!! She's resigning that's even better!!!

Doug (formerly DB) July 3, 2009 3:24 PM

If she really is not running for re-election, my guess is that she came to the realization that she can't be Governor of Alaska and run for the presidency at the same time. She knows that this would have been an overwhelming issue in her re-election bid. I also think her principles are such that she wouldn't feel right about winning re-election then immediately running off to the lower 48 to begin campaigning for 2012.

bestbud July 3, 2009 3:24 PM

KYUU says Sarah will resign in July!!
WOW!

juju July 3, 2009 3:25 PM

I have always thought that she wouldn't run again. And if she wants to go for the big one, it would be so difficult to be leaving all the time and fighting the ankle biters. I am glad of this. Go Sarah.

Yeah I find this surprising. I understand not running again in 2010, that's fine. But leaving in 3weeks?

Yogi41 July 3, 2009 3:27 PM

She's resigning? Holy moly, there must be more coming down the pipe then. Perhaps something is going to come out about her and she's getting ahead of the news by resigning.

Arrghh... wish I could have seen how she looked when giving the press conference. If she looked dejected, then maybe, just maybe, that rumored iceberg is about to hit the press.

But, until I hear more, I'm going to hope this is a step forward for her 2012 Presidential run.

ND July 3, 2009 3:27 PM

Mountain Mama July 3, 2009 3:27 PM

why in the world would she resign

howIroll July 3, 2009 3:28 PM

I can see not running for a 2nd term, but resigning? That's insane. She's not even a 1-term governor then. And SarahPAC just sent out the email for more donations on Monday.

I'm totally baffled.

Perhaps Gov.Palin is very ill.

I have a bad feeling about this.

Jane Austen July 3, 2009 3:29 PM

if you want to, please pray now- for her family, for her, her staff. we need to be behind her.

Rachael July 3, 2009 3:30 PM

yeah, something is not right about this. she is not a quitter.

Anne July 3, 2009 3:30 PM

I MEAN, surely it's no personal drama like Sanford??

she and todd are lovebirds!!!

Chappy July 3, 2009 3:30 PM

Chris Wallace on Fox can't understand why she would make this announcement just before the 4th of July weekend......but think about it......what will everybody be talking about at their BBQ's and at their Tea Party's?

They'll be talking about Sarah!

Smart lady!

gardunne63 July 3, 2009 3:30 PM

Sarah Palin to Jonathan Goldberg:

STFU

Awe, she took away his moment of awesomeness.

Bill in Baltimore July 3, 2009 3:30 PM

It could be that she realizes what most of us do . . . by the time 2012 rolls around, we are in deep sh**

So she can be vocal about global cooling, FOCA, etc. etc. etc.

I can't see her fading away.

If she didn't say why she is resigning, she is keeping people guessing (anticipation, right CJ)

We'll certainly see.

Nande July 3, 2009 3:31 PM

OK, the 'resignation' part has me a bit concerned. Whether this is political or not, I hope this is a positive announcement, not negative. Peace be with her and her family.

Gelston July 3, 2009 3:31 PM

the Michael Jackson Estate has annouced that sedatives will be on sale in the lobby at the conclusion of today's press conference.

Tim July 3, 2009 3:32 PM

guys.. I don't think she is resigning.. she is just saying that she is not seeking relection...

why are you trusting a liberal media source.. they make up stuff as they go along..

(and I say this as a liberal supporting Governor Sarah Palin)

Anne July 3, 2009 3:32 PM

WHY.WOULD.SHE.RESIGN.

That only breeds drama....could it be that she's sick of the pettiness and is ready to move on?

Would that brand her as a quitter? That's why I think it has to do with something else.....

JeanA July 3, 2009 3:32 PM

It is posted at KTUU that she is resigning.

LadySam July 3, 2009 3:33 PM

According to KTUU website she is resigning from her governorship!!!

Rachael July 3, 2009 3:34 PM

Honest to God I don't know if I should laugh or cry or vomit

Chappy July 3, 2009 3:34 PM

Resigning?

I don't understand....

AmeriCuda July 3, 2009 3:34 PM

I pray for her. Clearly it is something big.

Anne July 3, 2009 3:34 PM

I AM GONNA THROW UP. WHAT THE F***

Anne July 3, 2009 3:35 PM

I want to cry.

Sarah I am praying for you.

Mountain Mama July 3, 2009 3:35 PM

Hiya, Gelston. I'll be first in line for those sedatives, thank you very much.

WHAT IS THE DEAL!?

Jane Austen July 3, 2009 3:36 PM

Anne- let's pray together. Is that ok?

Holly July 3, 2009 3:36 PM

I'm crying. I think I'm going to be sick. I need to know what is happening. Why? I need to know!! I need to see that video! This really is hurting me. I love her so much. Why?

john July 3, 2009 3:36 PM

Am I the only one getting a sinking feeling?

TommyReport July 3, 2009 3:37 PM

Gang,

Calm down. Check out the CNN quote from the source.

She may be taking another job that she wouldn't be able to take as alaska governor.

Expect her to move to DC to work for some think tank.

gardunne63 July 3, 2009 3:37 PM

The sudden disapperance of the key
C4P players on this thread with no headline updates makes me think they are getting detailed info directly from Meg and will update us all in time.

Mountain Mama July 3, 2009 3:37 PM

Okay, who got to her and made her run? This is NOT like her to quit.

portlandon July 3, 2009 3:37 PM

God Bless Sarah Palin.

Whatever it is, it's BIG.

Bill in Baltimore July 3, 2009 3:38 PM

I also have a really sinking feeling. Big time.

Huskers-For-Palin July 3, 2009 3:38 PM

if she's resigning, then the forces of evil have won. if this is a resignation, then her political career is over.

Mittens will get crushed in 2012 and Obama will have a second term.

wisetrog July 3, 2009 3:38 PM

But Tommy, why would she need to resign from office to do that?

Anne July 3, 2009 3:39 PM

Jane, I definitely want to pray together. Thank you.

This is not good info if she wants to run for President. Ya'll, I think she may be putting politics aside completely.

I hope she is ok.

gardunne63 July 3, 2009 3:39 PM

Maybe she is resigning to take a $5 million job with Exxon and will personally ensure that the gas pipeline gets built on time/on budget, even if she has to get a union card and go out and work on the pipeline in the middle of winter.

Nande July 3, 2009 3:40 PM

CNN Live talking about it again...

Uffda July 3, 2009 3:40 PM

I'm going to die, I'm going to die, I'm going to be sick....

My intestines are in knots.

Why? Why why why?

This is so out of the blue, what on earth is happening?

gardunne63 July 3, 2009 3:40 PM

I don't have a sinking feeling about this. I just don't.

Bill in Baltimore July 3, 2009 3:41 PM

Anticipation, right CJ ? right ?

Kathleen July 3, 2009 3:41 PM

She's resigning because America is just not that stupid!!

Rachael July 3, 2009 3:41 PM

Anne, I agree.

I pray that it isn't anything as horrible as we're all imagining.

But at the same time I have to admit that I don't think this bodes well for her political future.

And I'm still going to throw up.

LouisianaRedneck July 3, 2009 3:41 PM

You guys all need to calm down. Palin has the best political instincts of anyone we've seen in years. We certainly don't have all the details. Wait, until we hear from the governor herself.

Many of us said all along, that we would support her regardless of what she decides to do. To me, that includes whatever she is doing today.

Yes, I still want her to take Obama out....but we'll just have to wait and see.

Colin Cohen July 3, 2009 3:42 PM

ADN also reporting she's resigning.

A very sad day.

Hefmier July 3, 2009 3:42 PM

Patrick,
The fact alone that you are a Trig Truther automatically cancels your intellect.

Mountain Mama July 3, 2009 3:43 PM

Carl Cameron is pretty positive about this. It gives her time to run for pres.

Todd spoke to Fox. He says she can now "do things for the country." What on earth does THAT mean!? Is she running for president then!?

WHY are there no more details?

Doug (formerly DB) July 3, 2009 3:43 PM

Could it be that she wants to campaign for Republicans in the 2010 midterms and doesn't feel right campaigning for them while being the governor?

Uffda July 3, 2009 3:43 PM

What the craters? Please! Please! An explanation!

KentonAK July 3, 2009 3:43 PM

Sorry to break it to the trolls.

The SYMBOLISM of Sarah doing this THE DAY BEFORE INDEPENDENCE DAY is SIGNIFICANT!

Today is Sarah's INDEPENDENCE DAY!

My own guess?:
SarahPAC is doing awesome!

Jane Austen July 3, 2009 3:43 PM

for Anne (and anyone els)
dear God,
thank you for this day and everything you have in it
Lord, please watch over Sarah Palin and her family. Please give us the calmness and ressurance that everything will be done to your will. For Your will is the only one we need to follow. Please help Sarah become the best she can be- in Your own eyes
Amen

Anne July 3, 2009 3:43 PM

Rachael - I think I've found a friend on this thread!! ;)

This resignation is going to haunt her forever if she runs for Prez. Surely she had massive counsel before doing this..Fred Malek I hope you were involved!!!

Jenny July 3, 2009 3:44 PM

Ed Morrissey said on his show that an "emotional" Parnell took the reign. I don't know where he got the info. But it doesn't sound good.

Nande July 3, 2009 3:44 PM

video on CNN LIve!!!

Uffda July 3, 2009 3:44 PM

This is just so unlike her. I don't get it.

Bill in Baltimore July 3, 2009 3:44 PM

Todd said
>>she can now "do things for the country.

That's good news.

Spirits waking up . . .

wisetrog July 3, 2009 3:45 PM

I just hope its not a health crisis.

georgiapeach July 3, 2009 3:45 PM

By resigning now, she will give Sean Parnell the advantage of running as an incumbent next year. And now FOX is reporting that they just spoke to Todd Palin who said she is freeing herself to work on the issues that she is passionate about. Looks like she's taking the muzzle off.

techno July 3, 2009 3:45 PM

Techno:

Folks. This is no time for negativity. Sarah Palin is going into the wilderness.

Think Moses, Jesus and Ronald Reagan.

This is the beginning of the taking back of America.

I will explain her decision once I have had time to reflect on it, but remember I was way ahead on this. So if you feel like shooting the messenger feel free.

Nande July 3, 2009 3:45 PM

It's positive, not negative!!!! She's on the hunt!

Mountain Mama July 3, 2009 3:46 PM

FINALLY we see the tape. She isn't going to operate in the same ole way, that's not best for Alaska. She just says that she's willing to hand things over to Parnell, so Alaska can continue on its positive way.

She says she wants to effect positive way outside government. Oh, dear. I wonder if she's never going to run for office again!

Rachael July 3, 2009 3:47 PM

"All I can ask is that you trust me with this decision."

Trying.
