Sunday Open Thread
[In 1976] after his defeat, Reagan quoted from what he remembered of a Dryden ballad he had memorized in his youth: "Lay me down and bleed a while. Though I am wounded, I am not slain. I shall rise and fight again." The next year, 1977, he gave 75 speeches. He wrote a newspaper column and did a syndicated radio show. He did not need to rise again because he never really had lain down. He had just kept campaigning.

Best statement so far on Sarah's decision:
Sarah the Grey is now Sarah the White.
Watch Out World.
Yes She Can.

From HA.
From Tammy Bruce: In today’s edition we shout “Run, Baby, Run!” celebrating Sarah Palin’s own Declaration of Independence; National 4th of July Tea Parties
http://tammybruce.com/2009/07/tammy-weekend-radio-podcast-74-now-up.html
Oh man, there's an explosion of supporters for Sarah on HA and here. That shows the power of her grassroots. Nobody needs to organize it, it will rally itself round our little general.
I am on a high. Waiting for all you to come online. Today's gonna be fun.
"funny" how her name is Sarah.
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
:-)
Fox and Friends just discussed Sarah and her Facebook message, Shannyn Moore (lies) and Sarah's lawyer, the FBI comment but they compared Sarah to Nixon. How Nixon went after the MSM. They commented that maybe Sarah resign to shield her children from attacks.
I would like to suggest that everyone in the C4P community read two posts from yesterday.
The first is an article by Mark Taspcott in the Wash Examiner. It is an excellent analysis of where he sees Gov. Palin heading.
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/Conventional-wisdom-cannot-explain-Palin-49924842.html
The second is the 7/4 blog post on Gov. Palin by The Anchoress, a woman of great faith and common sense who I have been reading for years. She was somewhat critical of the resignation at first, but has been re-thinking.
http://www.firstthings.com/blogs/theanchoress/
A good article at WND.
http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=103019
The anklebiters are so bitter about everything that's happened, I think they're starting to realize they're as "done" as they've claimed the Gov to be time and time again. I'd almost feel bad for them if they weren't walking buckets of bile.
Who knew the iceberg those trolls were yapping about would turn out to be Sarah herself?
Could someone send Fox and Friends an email explaining why she resign. The cost to the state, spending all their time gathering FOIO (whatever they are called) fighting ethics complaints, being law suits because of the name Sarah. The cost to the state, coste to Sarah and the attacks on the children. Remove Sarah and the government can serve the people.
Some people just don’t seem to get it. By resigning Sarah up held what she has sworn to do in the first place. “To faithfully discharge her duties as governor to the best of her ability”
Her ability has been compromised! By ridicules ethic complaints, by continues media scrutiny on useless fan fair.
She realized she can no longer effectively govern her state – for heaven’s sake her own legislators were working overtime to sabotage her agenda for political reasons - she risked her political future for the sake of Alaska.
No other politician would have the guts to do so as such Sarah comes across bizarre. That’s what people love so much about her, she’s sincere, she’s honest and she’ll do the right thing whether it looks good on her rĆ©sumĆ© or not.
The way Sarah sees it, the media obsession with Sarah Palin may not go away but it will be Sarah Palin they go after and not Governor Palin R-AK, leaving Alaska at least to resume to normality.
I got my brains kick in last night, at a 4th of July get together. Ugh...
They were waiting for me like a pirana waiting for its next chum.
Some quotes from dear friends and family.
" your Girl is done"
"Palin is a quitter"
No American likes a quitter"
"Who would vote for a quitter"
"I'll never vote for her, she just showed
the world she is a quitter"
Most of these people at the get together were stanch republicans....or they say, they are.....
Every time I went to dispute what they were saying, BAM, another big mouth slammed me against the wall.
I went into the Host house and brought out a lap top. Went to C4P web site and played Mark Levin's radio piece.
BTW, they love Mark, which I knew, so I started with him. Played Sarah's resignation speech, and I read her Happy 4th July from Alaska piece, to them.
"Now which big mouth wants to lay some money on the table that Governor Palin is finished in Politics"?
Not one big mouth bet me!!
THANK YOU.. THANK YOU.. C4P
You covered my butt last night.
For those who don't follow twitter, here's what Glenn Beck had to say last night:
"reading Palins speech again.SHE is going to be a force.GOP-be afraid.Very Afraid. There will be only one standing in the end.I'll bet on her."
"Many write:Palin is done.U don't understand EVERYTHING is about to change. What you thought you knew, could trust or depend on is shifting"
"Jbroussard55:Hope she is smarter than they say.A:Not only is she smarter she feels the direction of USA.No focus group.Just truth and vision"
I think it's safe to say Beck is back on board :)
good morning everyone! Any thoughts on where Sarah will move to in the states. New York is the obvious choice.
Doubt she will remain purely alaska based.
...so I keep replaying the events of Friday, and realized there's a movie scene for every real and powerful moment:
Mexican boy: Viene la tormenta!
Sarah Connor: What did he just say?
Gas Station Attendant: He said there's a storm coming
Sarah Connor: [sighs] I know.
Viene la tormenta, fellow C4Pers.
http://tinyurl.com/Sarah-goes-underground
Michael Regan just dumped on Sarah.
Should have finished her term.
Run for re-election
No title the GOP will eat her up
If she resigned for her family that is good.
Getting bad advise
Newt is the leader of the party
Channel flipping this morning, Good Morning America mentioned the Facebook post and then very gingerly referenced the attorney's letter and the statement that bloggers and news organizations have been put on notice that they can and will be sued for defamation. The nature of the "rumors" wasn't even mentioned. Clearly, they see that the Governor means business and isn't going to take the media's BS anymore.
And Kate Snow is headed to Wasilla as we speak.
The media circus over the weekend has mobilized her army. These fools know not what they've done. Sarah has played them like a Stradivarius and they don't even realize it.
The fact that she's fighting back will awaken a groundswell of support, the likes of which this country has never seen. All of us were begging George W. to defend himself against his enemies, and now that we've got somebody who isn't afraid to take them on, all this pent up anger against the media and these evil bloggers is going to manifest itself in an army that will follow her into the gates of hell.
The iceberg has melted.
What a great photo to open a new dawning with. Sarah is heading into the sunrise, not sunset. Thank you for the uplifting view and the additional statement.
With the Obama administration unraveling so early on, what Sarah Palin represents is positioned to resonate among so many who are disgruntled, or among so many who are now awakening with a bad case of buyer’s remorse. Granted a heavier dose may be required for those belonging to the latter case, to bring them around or to bring them to honest realization.
Sarah is now free to pursue greater goals.
More power to her!
What ever Sarah plans to do we are with her 100%. American needs her now.
If Sarah starts making speeches and talking serious conservatism as his father did, that is, 60-75 speeches a year, everyone will know that the Game Is On, and Michael Reagan will come 'round.
Reagan doesn't get that the National G.O.P. wasn't doing anything to help her out on these ethics issues. She would have been in a three million dollar hole at the end of her term, and there was no way she could have gone to Fred Malek and asked for the money. That's just not her.
The fault lies not with Sarah, but with an ethics process that is open to abuse by political grievance mongers. She'll be fine.
Gingrich: Mr. Baggage? That's the first time I've had cause to question Michael Reagan's judgment in a long, long time.
When Gov.Palin made her statement , I was shocked, but now I think is a very strong ,courageous and wise move.
I think many people have been waiting for this; on her facebook there is an "explosion" of ( positive )comments and her Twitter is now 54,626 .
The FBI reiterated that claim Saturday, telling the Los Angeles Times for a story Sunday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was not investigating Palin's activities as governor, a former mayor or in any other capacity.
"There is absolutely no truth to those rumors that we're investigating her or getting ready to indict her," Special Agent Eric Gonzalez, the bureau's Alaska spokesman, said.
Reagan's wilderness years (without a job)between 1974-1980 allowed the Gipper the FLEXIBILITY to do what he really wanted to do, to be in places where he really wanted to be, to write what he really wanted to write, to say what he really wanted to say, and to attack the Democrats on a daily basis without having to defend any action or policy.
And it allowed Reagan the TIME to reflect, read and find 'ammunition' which reinforced his philosophy and arguments.
Do not lament that Sarah is going into the wilderness. Jesus, John the Baptist, Moses, Churchill in the 1930's, and Reagan have paved the way and shown how prolific and fruitful these years were.
Sarah Palin's wilderness years will be no different.
This Sunday with George S. talking about Sarah Palin and that she will not be able to make a COMEBACK.
Excuse me, Tony Blankley, on the panel just quoted her poll numbers and her frontrunner status in the GOP Presidential nsweepstakes and the other pundits are talking like Sarah is washed up.
Bizarro world-living in an alternate or parallel universe.
Only in politics could you get away with such nonsense.
That is why I love sports. Great teams are great teams. if you don't like them fine-but you can't dispute it.
JeanA: Saw that too I was shocked; Michael is a great supporter of Sarah so I am not sure what he's on about. Seems he's disappointed Sarah didn't consult him prior to making her decision. Like many bloggers who have attacked Sarah yesterday and are now coming around so will he.
The pundits and commentators were so caught off guard and in a rush to say something they didn’t think it through. Once it sinks in and have more time to think it over they seem to turn to favor the idea.
My first reaction – and I would presume many here at C4P - was “OMG” there goes Palin 2012, the more I thought about it and the more I have time to digest it the more I love it.
As disappointing as it may be to hear them NOW, We all need to be a little patient and give those who have a record of supporting Sarah the time to come around, They will!
from a HA poster yesterday:
"Sarah Palin did not quit, she is repositioning herself to higher ground for the next battle ahead."
techno, but could this move backfire and her numbers go down among republicans?
Meanwhile, Ed's thread about Sarah's career being "over" is at 3300 comments and many are taking him to ask AND fighting for Sarah although there are some diversion abt Ron Paul. Many of these are brand new posters.
Sheya , maybe some almost felt betrayed by her. But we have to understand that she runs to build and change things , not to own the title. And she needs to play the game the way she wants it.
People will realize that.
wisetrog:
What Sarah is banking on is that her supporters are not drone or mind-numbed robots who buy into the narrative of the MSM but realize that her wilderness years will begin at the end of July, that they will be blessed with her on-the-field presence in the lower 48 making her case to take back America.
As to your specific question, I am not Nostradamus (a man has got to know his limitations)her poll numbers may fluctuate but once the word gets out that in early August that she will be speaking at the Reagan Library people will come around and realize what her motives were for stepping down.
Wisetrog , maybe some , but some frustration will go away , now when she can act freely.
She got some comfort in saying that she will fight for and support conservative ideas , if it leads to presidency or not is almost a sideshow.
wisetrog: I suspect this move WILL have a short term effect on her numbers. Once Sarah starts going out and does her thing her numbers will recover. Most people don’t yet know what her plans are and the fear of the unknown will play into that. It’s been just 40 hours since her announcement, 40 months from now things will look completely different.
Obama to Russia tonight, would be cool if Palin – just for fun -twitters: Can see president from my house, he’s up to no good.
The more I hear the news media talk and report on Sarah the more I realize "they just don't get it".
she did a nixon; "You won't have Nixon to kick around any more" -- nixon
Karl Rove on Fox News Sunday is also being disingenuous about the ability of the MSM to attack Palin while she is a 'civilian'.
First as a civilian she will be a MOVING TARGET and not so easy for Obama or her GOP opponents to hit with a direct shot.
And secondly and maybe more important she will be able to go on the attack on a 24/7 basis over the next 2-3 years against Obama and his radical socialist agenda without being forced to defend her record or policies.
Take time to reflect on the above paragraph. Imagine Sarahcuda tearing a strip off the Messiah every single day drawing blood and creating bruises while making many direct hits, stsggering Obama on a consistent basis while pinning him against the ropes, the Messiah finding it impossible to escape her constant pounding, while she refuses to allow him a time out with a timely clinch.
And finally Rove says "Palin has lost control over her time."
Rove, you are being completly disingenuous. Sarah Palin, by going into the wilderness, will be able to schedule her time to maximize her effectiveness and tailor it to fulfill her mission of taking back America, Refer to my previous post on the wilderness years.
Andrea Mitchell is already in AK.
Bet she hates that she went there to get a big story and now it is a non-story since the FBI issued their statement. She looked like a total mess. Never saw her look so tired and unkept. She has been on MSNBC this morning really saying nothing.
Another man reporter was on and said something like this: Palin will receive a cold reception if and when she comes to the lower 48.
I've got news for him. It is just unbelievable that these reporters just don't get it. They must live in a world of their own making.
Fwiw: you said it best, we’re all blinded by “the light” and yeh “good things come to those who wait” we are very patient people.
Gov. Palin should schedule a press conference where she invites all the press.
Have a detailed put together speech explaining everything.
Lay it out in 3 or 4 steps.
Timing is everything, stay away from Michael Jackson’s memorial service.
Another man reporter was on and said something like this: Palin will receive a cold reception if and when she comes to the lower 48.
Yeah. From the reporters. ha ha ha.
AK tourism boom! :)
techno, i saw andrea this morning also. she looked terrible. mouthing leftist talking points. I suspect she is there to try and get an interview with Sarah. Good luck witch.
You know, the thing that's been absolutely driven home to me in the last 24 hours is exactly what is mean by "out-of-touch" when we talk about the elites of both parties and the media. Realizing that they simply cannot grasp that someone just might not have becoming President as a goal in their life is very revealing.
It doesn't matter whether she may or may not decide to run at any time in the future. What matters is that they are so obsessed with projecting the "what does this mean about her Presidential chances?" that they can't even listen to what she said.
They literally cannot see the forest for the trees anymore.
What's reassuring, though, is that surfing around to various sites of all stripes, there are plenty of regular people who heard her loud and clear. We the people know exactly what she said. We know that sometimes it isn't about becoming President - that will either happen or not happen when the time is right. Sometimes it really is about family, state and country. In the here and now.
We hear her. We were listening. Even if they weren't.
It was also fascinating that the commentators on FoxNew's Bull & Bears yesterday got it right off and essentially said "Go girl."
a Palin democrat here!
millions of moderate/conservative Hillary democrats SUPPORT SARAH PALIN!
as for the cold reception...WHAT BS!
I will take off work to see her speak!
NO TO SOCIALISM! NO TO FASCISM! NO TO THE EXTREMES OF BOTH POLITICAL
PARTIES!
NO DEMS.. NO REPUBS.. ONLY AMERICANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hillarysvillage.net
The problem with all those political junkies is that they see everything through the eyes of typical beltway politicians, they don’t get that Sarah is everything they are not. They seem to forget that it’s the average American who with their votes decide who leads the country and those guys sitting in fancy Washington offices or TV studios. America is changing its no longer the guys sitting in smoke filled rooms who choose the next leader.
Jeez. These people in the media are out to lunch. Palin knows her people. She'll be wildly popular down here.
The MSM is in for a shock.
Plain and simple folks--you don't walk off the court until the game is over, you fight till the bitter end, otherwise it's called quitting, giving up, when you start the game you finish, doesn't matter if your behind or you get knocked down, you finish, otherwise you sit the bench in the next game. Sorry but your girl is a quitter....
JeanA: I agree I also think Sarah should go on with O’Reilly he’ll ask her direct questions but he’ll be fair. She needs to answer some tough questions and BO would be a good start.
fwiw, she's just moved to another positon.
Sarah's writing her big coming out party speech right about now (just guessing).
Wouldn't she shock the world with the opening salvo being something like this :
"First, let me make it clear, I did not make the move I made as any intention of running for the presidency in 2012..." Then she goes on to say that she will working her butt off to be a voice against Obama's policies and she will work to ensure that the House and Senate are Republican again.
She slays all slayers with just that first line.
She still has ALL of the grassroots support in the party. She turns the Obama smear machine towards Mitt and the Gay Mafia and their buds in the MSM will start to eat Mitt and the Mormom Church for lunch for the Prop 8 vote.
Doesn't mean that she doesn't actually run. The Republican party insiders will be begging her to run in 2012 if she has helped carry the Rep candidates to victory in 2010.
The nuts have descended on Wasilla again.
fwiw,
i guess its going to be mitt vs obama. hope the economy turns around soon or... did anyone say jimmy carter.
fwiw:
you really don't get it do you?
This is BEYOND sarah at this point.. THE GAME AND SYSTEM IS RIGGED AGAINST AMERICANS!
Sarah went after corruption IN BOTH PARTIES.. the DEMS and HER OWN!
That's why she is a threat to BOTH PARTIES!
AND THAT'S WHY NORMAL HARDWORKING AMERICANS OF ALL POLITICAL STRIPES SUPPORT HER....
SHE PUTS AMERICA AND AMERICANS FIRST!!! NOT A POLITICAL PARTY!
I am a stauch democrat.. and a small business owner.. once Mao Obama gets through with Healthcare and cap/trade.. my business will be on the brink of bankcruptcy!
I voted for Gore, Kerry and every god damed democrat whose name I didn't know.. yet they had a "D" after their name.. NO MORE!
The sheeple have been awoken and now find that the people in DC OF BOTH PARTIES HAVE ROBBED THEM IN PLAIN SIGHT!
THE SILENT MAJORITY IS NO LONGER SILENT OR ASLEEP!
PUT AMERICA AND AMERICANS FIRST.. NOT ANY DAMN POLITICAL PARTY!
fwiw:
She’s not a quitter. I posted this earlier but will repost for your benefit. By resigning Sarah up held what she has sworn to do in the first place. “To faithfully discharge her duties as governor to the best of her ability”

if anyone needs a laugh go to the abcnews.com site and read the biden story title :)
ND-- and what position would that be??? Oh I forgot, it's RUMORED she's going to run for something, Don't know what but something??
Tim, I totally agree with you. Well said.
Does anybody have a link to the Bull n bears video? Heard that they had a great quote about Sarah. C4P shld prlly post it here.
The Gov. will take a hit in polling. It's a given, I think. She is not an idiot and I believe she expects this. Hopefully she understands that she has shaken many people who were moderate or potential supporters and has a lot of work to do to win them back. A lot will depend on how she re-emerges. She will need a clear, strong statement of purpose and principles (hope she works with a good speechwriter on this -- maybe the guy who wrote the convention speech). I'd also recommend a media blitz, soon. Not just Greta & Hannity, but the networks and, especially, conservative talk radio. Bruce and Levin and Beck, obviously, but also some who are (or I suspect will be) critical of her decision, like Ingraham and, especially, Rush. He rarely interviews, but I would think he'd be very interested in talking with her. I'd also like to see her sit down with Brit Hume, who I think is the fairest and one of the toughest interviewers. He would give her a fair (but tough) shake.
BTW, I saw the comment in an earlier thread about Sarah speaking in Simi Valley in Aug, but is that speech really at the Reagan Library? If so, what better place for her to state what she intends to do, and why.
and what position would that be???
******************************
doesn't mean an ELECTED position. doesn't even mean official. all it means is she's chosen a different direction.
look, my kid brother played center for 3 years. all-state all three years. his SR year they asked him to move to guard. he'd been planning/beig recruited for college ball at center. but he did it because there was a need there. there was someone capable standing behind him at center and NO ONE to play guard. his team needed him to put aside his honors and his ego and his plans so the team could move on with their business. Alaska, to my mind, needed a similar move from their governor.
look, i don't like that she resigned - she could have just said i'm done and not running for anything, let me finish my term. but i think she had every right to do so. epecially given that alaska's business was being damaged by the yammering about sarah palin. sheya is dead right. for SARAH PALIN this was a choice that cost her dearly on a very personal level. i'm sure she'll second guess herself - it is, after all, alaska she loves most.
The A to Z Guide to Political Success for Sarah Palin
OPPORTUNITY
A CHANCE THAT OFFERS SOME KIND OF ADVANTAGE OR A FAVORABLE OCCASION OR PROSPECT FOR DOING SOMETHING; A TIME OR PLACE FAVORABLE FOR EXECUTING A PURPOSE; EXPLOITABLE SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES WITH AN UNCERTAIN OUTCOME, REQUIRING A COMMITMENT OF RESOURCES AND INVOLVING EXPOSURE TO RISK; A COMBINATION OF FAVORABLE CONDITIONS, CIRCUMSTANCES OR SITUATION; AN OPENING
The 10 aspects of OPPORTUNITY:
1)With Sarah's resignation on July 3, this gives her the OPPORTUNITY to maintain a flexible schedule that is not tied to the dictates of a job and gives her the ability to focus her entire attention on developing a full-fledged Presidential campaign organization and being able to travel anywhere, anytime including to foreign countries. As governor of Alaska she would not be able to do that.
2)Sarah now has the OPPORTUNITY as a 'civilian' to attack Obama on a 24/7 basis over the next 2-3 years without having to worry about defending her policies or positions
3)Sarah will now be able to take the OPPORTUNITY to travel freely throughout the lower 48 over the next 18-24 months before the primary season begins (Iowa, NH, and SC) and establish her credentials and redefine her image in the process
4)Sarah will be able to host fundraisers in the lower 48 at will for herself that will allow her the OPPORTUNITY to pad her war chest and make her more competitive against Romney and later Obama
5)Sarah through SarahPAC and her presence will be able to take the OPPORTUNITY to help GOP House and Senate candidates get elected or re-elected and perhaps as a battlefield commander in the 2010 midterms allows her to help orchestrate a huge victory for the GOP and thereby elevate her to hero status
6)Sarah now has the OPPORTUNITY to get her message and ideas out through making the media rounds on a consistent basis and doing right-wing talk radio
7)Sarah has the OPPORTUNITY now to make contacts with prominent GOP donors and meet with GOP members of Congress and politicians on a regular basis to increase her stature in the GOP, even among the RINO's
8)Sarah will have the OPPORTUNITY to reflect on her vision and read to become more conversant on the overall issues and use the time to develop Reagan conservative ideas and policies that she wants to advance during the primary season and the general campaign
9)Sarah will now have the OPPORTUNITY to visit think tanks, academics, experts to listen and learn and meet with her kitchen cabinet and advisors on a regular basis to map out her strategy.
10)Sarah will now have the OPPORTUNITY to be on an equal level with Romney and Huckabee in terms of appealing to primary voters and make her case. You cannot overestimate this equality of OPPORTUNITY for Sarah's message to resonate. As Governor of Alaska she would be behind the 8 ball.
guys.. a bit of advise.. trolls take up a lot of energy.. when Hillary was in the primaries.. it was such a waste of time and energy... they would throw out "she's a racist", and like lemmings.. the media would follow.. the trolls would follow.. and Hillary's supporter's time was spent fending this nonsense off..
I know I am a moderate democrat.. but trust me when I say... please ban trolls.. we do not allow trolls on hillarysvillage.net. We have dems, repubs and indies there.. and we DO NOT always agree with everyone on everything.. but we have meaningful discussions.. NOT distractions..
for example.. fwiw asks a one line question and ND spends 6 times as many lines (and much more effort) explaining this ... why are you bothering.. ??
(this is just like with Sarah.. file a free ethics charge agn Sarah.. spend 2 million fending it off)... at least here you can ban then for free...
trust me .. as a dem we have used this tactic on you guys (repubs) all the time.. you need to cut out the trolls.. its a waste of time.. and oh yes.. we can fill you in on all sorts of nonsense Axel-hole's minions have unleashed..
--a Palin democrat
Troll in thread below says: I don't think the trolls, are going to bother you anymore, your all blinded by the light, a total waste of time.
I'm sorry, can we appreciate the hilarity of this all for a second.
"Yeah you beat us, but it's just because you're so stupid, you're not even worth it, we totally could've kicked your ass but we won't because you're not worth it" SAYS THE TROLLS WHO HAVE BEEN LURKING HERE POSTING 24/7 FOR MONTHS.
Ah, life is good. :)
Fellow ordinary barbarians, if it is true, as many pundits have projected, that Sarah Palin's political career is over, why are so many high-profile MSM reps now flying up to Alaska?
Even a 6 year old can see THIS DOES NOT ADD UP.
Eleanor Clift just on MSNBC and said she thought the "Housegate" thing may have legs. Geezz..I see she is really up on the latest news. These reporters just go on TV and say whatever comes in their empty heads.
I never liked that woman. And, like her even less now.
MSNBC: (and CNN, and NBC)
where one goes to watch liberal heads exploding... :)
--Palin Democrat
Gang,
Can you all start tweeting and e-mailing important political blogs the LA Times story.
I know some on C4P will disagree with me but I believe that one has to have 'the fire in your belly' to want to become POTUS. For those in Rio Linda, that means ambition.
Currently, Sarah is positioning herself for national impact.
The first task is to build her organization and team and to get out there in the lower 48 to get her message out and attack Obama in the arena of ideas. She will be able to give that full attention now.
Next she will be able to write her book and go on a book tour to elevate her credibility and position herself as a major player.
Then she will use SarahPAC money to support other House and Senate candidates and position herself as a battlefield leader in the 2010 midterms.
After that the final leg of the journey: the march through the primaries and hopefully gaining the nomination and then of course finally to brass ring going one on one against the Messiah for all the marbles.
Welcome to all of the new posters and lurkers here. You will not find a better site that is dedicated to publishing the truth about Gov. Palin. The editors here do a fantastic job at research and truth, so please enjoy and add to the commentary.
As to the supporters that Gov. Palin has lost with this decision, understand that it will take time for them to process this. Many of us can and do envision her next steps, but some cannot until she actually takes those steps. I suspect they'll be back on board once they see her plan manifest into reality.
For all those she has temporarily lost, she has gained a whole new set of supporters; many are independent of party and those are the ones who are definitely welcome.
This is going to be history in the making and not only are we able to witness it, we're going to be participants. For as much as we need Sarah to take on this fight, we have got to fight with her. Many of us will volunteer and some will have to be drafted, but in the end, we're going to look back on this as the starting point to a stunning take back of our country's principles.
Let's roll.
From Sarah: Critics are spinning, so hang in there as they feed false info on the right decision made as I enter last yr in office to not run again....
over 55000
The This Week roundtable invited Todd Purdum to their little gossip
session!, as if he had any special insight into her. Blankley's kind of sticking up for her,George Will was clueless, than again he's been that way since October, where he 'didn't choose wisely. They really ought to
disinfect the place, but then again if they knew that, they wouldn't invite him in the first place.
Bill Bennett of State of the Union on CNN basically doing a flip-flop on Sarah now and acting like he's now on her side. Boy it's really hard these days to keep track of who is for Sarah and who is not without a scorecard. Michael Reagan today by the way came out against Sarah today and now supports Newt.
Bizarro world.
There is a new statement on Sarah's Facebook page, regarding the LA Times article mentioned in the threads here.
Everyone’s analyzing, speculating and trying to figure out what’s inside Sarah’s head. If only half the stuff being said she was thinking were true she would have had to be thinking about this decision from the day she got elected.
Has anyone considered that maybe Sarah has just had it? She and all of her children have been maliciously attacked. Her job as governor has been compromised to a point she can no longer lead. Maybe her speech should be taken at face value, maybe she really has had it with politics and has decided to do what’s best for her and her family: Just be a mom.
For now her plan is simply to focus on her book, make a few speeches and see where it takes her from there.
She will still be a voice for America but without “the title” .

Better yet, why are TeamSarah, Sarah's Facebook page and her Twitter page growing? Furthermore, I have noticed a lot of new commenters here at C4P.
I hope Sarah has the MSM running around in circles chasing their tails. There is more support for Sarah each hour now... we will wait until she lets us know when and where we can help her. Go Sarah Go... we are here for you.
Hillary's village has a few threads up to make sure the LA Times article has spread out...
Have you noticed that with all this criticism of Palin that there is little or no talk about Obama in the last three days.
Tell me another living American (not Michael Jackson) has the ability to knock the Messiah off the air for that length of time.
OK, i take back my last post. After this tweet, She's watching, she's on top of things and she's surly up to something.
Hefmier:
COGNITIVE DISSONANCE on steroids.
The tweet is not 10 minutes old and everyone’s talking about it. Oh yeh “her political career is over” yeh right and I’m the Pope.
Who was that guy on FOX? He said some nice things.
Tim,
I was cheering reading your comment! Loved it!
Mel, all contributors of C4P,
You are making a difference! Thanks for all of your hard work! You've saved me from much head banging, especially over the last 2 days!:)
Fellow commenters,
Friends, you are awesome! To the new ones, like Tim, you all are exploding the myth that Governor Palin just committed political suicide. Thank you for all of your compelling, thoughtful posts. It's great to see common sense in this upside down world!
Palin's tweets are GREAT!
Her twitter page is one of her very best 'weapons'!
The major problem with Sarah's speech, not her problem, but a problem for the people that think they were listening to her, but they were not hearing what she said, is they don't understand this woman because she is not an elitist she is one of us. She speaks like we do, we understand what she is saying. The majority of us agree with her.
This totally blindness by the MSM and pundits is probably one of her best weapons against them and for her continued popularity with the average American. Like Sarah said
in her Ziegler interview about K. Curic..."The world doesn't revolve around you". The world doesn't revolve around these pundits and MSM people either, even though they think it does.
Just like Wallace this morning on Fox. He had her Lt. Gov. on, with Huck and Rove. The Lt. Gov. could hardly get a word in to the conversation and he is the one that knows and understands Sarah best. Not Huck or Rove. I was really disappointed in Wallce.
Have you guys contacted Ed and AP? I'm surprised that there isn't a separate post with the LA Times article.

You should see the explosion of support for Sarah on Hot Air, it's a thing to behold. So many new people and they are taking on regular commenters with knowledge, passion and charm.
I'd be not surprised if her number even go up with this. We just need to make sure MSM won't try to deflate the burst of energy.
Tommy, lots and lots people have already posted in in comments and pesterd Ed about that.
Juju, another reason is I don't think many people saw the entire video, just bits n pieces of it. Another version of Gibson debacle.

These morning shows...ha! George Steph's crew on ABC was pretty much off base - making all sorts of suppositions and interpretations.
Fox News Sunday was again full of supposition, but at least Lt. Gov. Parnell was on to tell it like it is. He had a tough time getting a word in with Rove and Huckabee, but he held his own!
PS: I'm totally looking forward to seeing where all of this goes...it's gonna be a fun ride!
Tim from HillaryVillage.net:
Welcome. I'm a former Hillary supporter also. I agree with your comments regarding trolls; ban them, who needs them, they are a distraction. The trolls have invaded many sites including NoQuarter. I had to stop going there because of the comments on Sarah. They need to be banned there also.
If Sarah needs trustworthy people to work for her campaign, she should look for former Hillary supporters who switched to Mccain/Palin and have continued to support her. She could rest assured that we would not betray her. I can guarantee you would not find a more loyal, hardworking bunch of people who have learned a lot dealing with Obama and the MSM and are willing to share with her campaign.
I have written to this before but the one element in American life that the MSM totally and grossly underreports, has chosen to ignore or to marginalize is the increasing fear and terror that is now gripping ordinary Americans as they are slowly realizing that America is now in the hands of a radical Marxist who is determined to destroy America, its Constitution, its institutions, its economy and its birthright of freedom. The tea parties are only the tip of the iceberg.
Enter Sarah Palin. In the spirit of the song Amazing Grace there are many that were blind, but now they see.
Huckabee says that SP will have to account for this in 2012. at gop12.com. So, he expects her to run in 2012. hah!

C. Edmund Wright at American Thinker: "Palin v. Pundits"

Hey, for you unschooled, ignorant-of-U.S. political history pundents and journalists, it was a little over 100 years ago that one of our most respected, highest rated presidents served less than two years of his gubnatorial term of the state of New York. He never returned to Albany or NY state politics.
Here's Jacob Riis writing about TR's impact on the Albany staehouse in his two short years before he went off to the Vice Presidency, then the White House (and it could not sum up more perfectly Sarah's impact on Juneau and its lasting gift for the rest of the country):
" I had not cared much for Albany since he (TR) left. And I said so to a friend, an old State official who had seen many govenors come and go. He laid his hand upon my arm. 'Yes', said he, 'we think so, many of us. The place seemed dreary when he was gone. But I know now that he left something behind that was worth our losing him to get. This past winter, for the first time, I heard the question spring up spontaneiously, as it seemed, when a measure was up in the legislature: 'Is it right?' Not 'Is it expedient?', not 'How's it going to help me?' not 'What is it worth to the party?' Not any of these, but 'Is it right?' That is Roosevelt's legacy to Albany. And it was worth his coming and his going to have that.'
"So that was what we got out of his term as Governor-all of us, for the legacy is the whole land, not only to my State. As for him, all unconscious of it, he had been learning to be President, the while he taught us Henry Clay's lesson that there is one thing that is even better than to be President- namely, to be right."
Jacob Riis, 1904 -Theodore Roosevelt, the Citizen
That last sentence is a money quote for Sarah, IMO.
hucks pissing me off... hey huck knowbody cared about you when you were governor of arkansas and you didn't have a national machine and MSM out to destroy you so don't compare yourself to palin buttwipe.
this is the last straw with huck.
Baboon,
I take Huck's hits as a good thing...that means he still thinks she's in this, hahahah.
He would be kissing her ass if he thought she was done.
TommyReport:
One thing you cannot say about Huck. He is NOT stupid-an opportunist yes-a moron no.
hucks excuse is that he had to work with democrats. earth to huck your a big government republican so shutup.
"She'll have to explain this in 2012." That alone tells you that regardless of how the punditry spins this SP will be running in 2012
Look for the MSM's next meme to be the Ron Paulization of Sarah and her supporters.
It's coming soon. You betcha'.
That's why Sarah should not jump in on the Tea Party movement-just yet. The Tea parties have -rightly or wrongly-been associated my many in the media as having been taken over by the Paulbots.
Here are the current results of a HA poll to the question:
Can Sarah Palin still have a career in national politics?
Absolutely 68% (3462 votes)
Probably 13% (685)
Doubtful 12% (626)
No way 5% (249)
Unsure 1% (74)
total votes 5096
guys/gals she's not going to run in 2012 and who would want to i mean the country is going to be in shithole plus she doesn't seem (to me anyway) to be the kind of person that would enjoy getting couped up in the lonely job of being president.
shes a mom first and i think she's realized that she can do more outside the political system but still have the luxury of spending her time with her family.
best wishes guv and its become more clear that politics has become reserved to the elites and those that scratch each others backs to get on top. sad state.
as much I do agree with some of Ron Paul's ideas.. like auditing the Fed.. I have seen and met some his supporters.. unfortunately.. the ones I have met are a bit out there..
I think the MSM trying to paint Sarah in that picture will fail because 1) she's never made statements like that 2)the decisions she made as mayor and governor don't support it..
wonder what other crap will be thrown to see if it sticks..

(BTW.. if Huck is the nominee, I will not be voting at all)
Palin is the first republican I have voted for in my ENTIRE voting history.. over 15+ years as a democrat..I am voting for Palin.. NOT the republican party..
Baboon,
Why the declarative statement? She would have just announced that she has ruled it out so that all the heat would be taken off of her if all she wanted to do was a return to family life.
baboonking, now I know why they call me a eeyore here but I'd be glad to pas my title onto you, as you deserve it better. ;)

"...most everyone has a fixed idea about the political world-Washington DC centric...elites, pundits out the wazoo. Analogous to WW1 TRENCH WARFARE...Sarah Palin just did a Patton, WWII style breaking out of the bocage (boscage) and tearing up the enemy rear. She's refusing to fight on the terms offered by the enemy-and make no mistake, the enemy is Imperial Washington, regardless of party.

"In the Biblical story of David and Goliath, David initially put on a coat of mail and a brass helmet and girded himself with a sword: he prepared to wage a CONVENTIONAL BATTLE of swords against Goliath. But then he stopped, "I cannot walk in these for I am unused to it" he said (in Robert Alter's translation), and picked up those five smooth stones.
What happened, Arreguin-Toft wondered, when the underdogs likewise acknowledged their weakness (Dirty Harry-a man has got to know his limitations-my words)and chose an UNCONVENTIONAL STRATEGY? He went back and re-analyzed the data. In those cases, David's winning percentage went up from 28.5 to 63.6. When underdogs chose not to play by Goliath's rules, they win, Arreguin-Toft concluded, "EVEN WHEN EVERYTHING WE THINK WE KNOW ABOUT POWER SAYS THEY SHOULDN'T."
Sarah is so wise as a politician and an observer of our MSM that she knows with her heart that if footage were to air of Obama sawing the heads off of young girls and eating them over a fire, the MSM would flip inside and out on how to spin it in a positive light.
I think she knows it will be impossible to unseat him in 2012, especially if he still has at least a one-house majority after 2010.
She'll wait and watch Mitch get thrown out to the sharks.

With all due respect to you, SarahPac will be declaring more than $100,000 in contributions sometime this month and Sarah will be running for POTUS (barring a Palin family or health crisis) in 2012.
As to the latter, that Sarah has not declared her intentions to run for POTUS in 2012 is now meaningless. First she needs to build an organization and recruit top talent. First things first.
Her efforts in the 2010 midterms and the results of her efforts to orchestrate a massive GOP victory will be pivotal in launching her 2012 Presidential campaign.
Let the MSM spin it anyway they like, whether she runs for President or not is irrelevant. One thing is for sure it’s a new era in America. There is an uprising of common sense by common folks. People have just had it with “Politics as usual”, the people want their country back. Yesterday was ‘not just Americas birthday, it was Independence Day!
I just got done watching the Sundays news shows on Fox and ABC. Out of about 10 guests on to discuss Sarah, there were only two people supportive of her, Bill Kristol and Sean Parnell and one semi supportive (guy with a British accent). Everyone else, even Republicans, were openly contemptuous of Sarah. They completely ignore the facts of what she said by taking her statements out of context. They are trying to convince their viewers that she has just killed herself politically and that all the criticism of her, none based on her governance, was right.
It is so obvious to me that Sarah probably has come to the determination that she just can’t be effective in the MSM and with the out of touch political elitists and pundits from both parties. Yet she knows that there are millions, of us who love and support her politics, values and ideals. So we need to not listen to anyone other than Sarah herself. We need to just listen to her through whatever medium she deems most effective, Facebook, Twitter, SarahPac... We can have direct communication without any MSM filter or spin. WE CAN DO THAT NOW! This is what I intend to do. If I want to know what Sarah thinks about an issue I’ll get it straight from her. If I want to know what she is doing or what she is supporting, I’ll get it straight from her. If I want any information about her I’ll get it from her sources and NOT from the MSM, never from the Hatefilled Left and their operatives, not the elitist DC beltway Republican or stupid Mike Huckabee (who thinks he had it worse than Sarah) or tired out Karl Rove!
Sarah can and will just communicated directly with us and that is how it’s going to have to be.
Jonah just played another one of his many biases.
"Populist". This word in 2009 is almost as bad to so-called conservative pundits, writers, and RNC insiders as a Castro communist.
In short, at least as of today, "populists" votes mean fewer votes for Mitt.
frankly speaking i've never been a party person and always been a "person" person if that makes any sense.
i like the guv as a person and hoped she would get elected to higher office but i never supported her because i thought she would be president rather i support her because she is genuine and sincere and was already disillusioned by the whole political establishment.
i think too many put their hopes and dreams on her shoulders including some of her supporters, some on talk radio and some commentators.
so lets get this straight: she is not reagan, she is not jesus, she is sarah palin.
There was some lady on FOX called Liz something that called Gov. Palin all kinds of names.
We need her email so we can all let her know what we feel.
i have to say this since i've already got my blood boiling after watching huckster.
screw the gop, screw the dems, screw the MSM, i'm going home (well not really but you get my drift).
O/T, but what's happened to the HillBuzz guys? Their web page is pretty much dead now, at least a month behind the times.
We need those Hillary fans-who-also-love-Sarah guys more than ever.
I believe it was Liz Trotta that Fox had on the air. This is even worse, because she supposedly is a "conservative". This puts her in the Kathleen Parker category or worse. She needs to be added to the "conservatives" with PDS list, if she hasn't been already. Her performance was disgraceful.

We don’t want her to be Reagan, we don’t want her to be Jesus that’s all we want for her to be Sarah Palin.
People trying to analyze Sarah Palin's decision are missing a key fact: she is a unique Republican asset. Many times Republican leaders will campaign to help other Republicans. It bumps attendence a little, it gets some press. Saxby Chandliss had McCain, and Romney and others down to help. But when Sarah came, thousands waited in line. No one else can do that. We need her doing that in the 2010 election cycle to have a hope at putting the brakes on the Obama insanity. She's not going to be 'in the wilderness', she's going to be in the thick of it.
NO.
Sarah does not need Hillary supporters for her inner campaign.
I VERY MUCH appreciate the efforts of those all over the media world who are Hillary fans or loyalists.
But that is what they are, Hillary's fans.
What she needs is LOYAL supporters who are from different areas of expertise.
You that are Hillary fans, ask yourself this question:
If Hillary runs to challenge Obama in the Dem primary and Sarah runs also in 2012, WHO will you support?
Who?
Sarah does not need the 'temporary' Hillary supporter, if that supporter abandons her in her hour of need because they disagree on say abortion or another single issue.
What she needs is the 100% Sarah and country supporter.
Now is the time for all Sarah fans to begin to cut the link to your own 'Alaskas' of Hillary, Mitt, Mike H., Ron, etc.
I cut my link from Romney (a weak link I'll admit) a year ago. I've never looked back.
I've been 100% Sarah and will be politically possibly to the day I die.
NOW is the time when people who say they support her need to take some time and decide if they are on board 100% country, Constitution, Sarah or still keeping that secret escape pod back to their comfortable world of Hillary, Mitt, Mike, etc.
Give yourself up politically to Sarah, and TRUST her, for she may set the country free again.
It is like being at a wedding and taking a spouse, through good times and bad. That may sound corny, but devoted followers will populate her movement which is the country's movement.
I'm ready to leave a 6-figure job, sleep in my car, buy 10 lb. bags of rice, and live like a Vietcong in a tunnel for this woman and her family, reading my Bible, my Declaration and Constitution by the light of candle, and pray quietly but passionately for this country.
This is not child's play.
DROP all cynicism you have ever had in your life and TRUST her.
Sheya,
i know. i'm just saying there are a lot of people who want her to get out there and take obama head on. i don't think thats where her priority is thats all i'm saying.
Yeah, if she wants to drop out, that's her choice. Why are they so angry as to call her names and essentially brand her mad? It doesn't make sense unless they knew this was coming, prepared the VF hit piece as defense and are now repeating this incredible explanation to negate the immense enthusiasm she has produced among the grassroots.
Does anyone in their right mind believe that she is mad? Why advance that as explanation? Do they expect her to be a masochist to bear whatever sh*t they throw at her? Idiot people.
Truth is they are unnerved by her move, they don't know what's coming, so they are being nastier than usual.

To her supporters Sarah will not be perceived to be in the wilderness but to onlookers, writers, pundits and politicos that is how they will perceive her.
A recent book written about Reagan referred to his WILDERNESS YEARS.
And that reference to Reagan's life between 1974-1980 was not a criticism of the Gipper whatsoever but a realization that what Reagan had accomplished during his wilderness years was comparable to Churchill in the 1930's, John the Baptist, Moses, and Jesus Christ and significantly launched his successful bid with all cylinders working for the Presidency in 1980.

They will want OBAMA to be beaten as much as we will. They are mad as hell at what OBAMA and MSM did to Hillary and I don't blame them.
I say, welcome, anyone that supports our Gov. Palin, we will need all the help we can get not just from a politico standpoint but to encourage other women who want to be of service to their country and are tired of the put downs women get.
wisetrog:
This is what separates Rush from everybody else. Nobody else has the brainpower to compare the rumors about Palin's future to the speculative cause of Michael Jackson's death, to cogently debunk 'the quitting meme', with clarity to present Sarah's options in the lower 48 and commending Sarah for thinking 'outside the box' while 'she continues to fire up the Republican base while making the argument that both Obama and the GOP are 'scared to death of her'.
El Rushbo, again you have proven you a way cut above everyone else.

This decision is proof that Sarah understands that she has to prepare for the big job and she's not ready. She needs to bone up on policy, especially foreign policy. She also understands that she needs a machine in place and she has to build it from scratch.
It's funny how people were telling her to study, to take advice and yet now she has cleared her schedule to do just that, they are scoffing at her. Idiots!
If I remember correctly, people didn't think Obama had a prayer at winning over Hillary. These same pundits will probably have Romney as their "chosen one." These so called experts really don't have a clue and to be honest, it saddens me that so many bloggers on here seem to live and die by what they say. Actions speak louder than words. Sarah's laying the groundwork and we will see what happens. Stay tuned.
sapwolf and wisetrog:
Ordinary barbarians, hey we should be celebrating and not fighting among ourselves.
Sarah is now a viable candidate for the Presidency in 2012. Let us delight in that reality and rejoice in the fact that C4P had much to do with allowing Sarah Palin to come this far.
Awesome Rush, but I still don't understand how people can keep saying "we don't know why she did this" or "we don't know what this is about."
We know exactly why she did it. She told us why she did it. Problem is, people are waiting for something else to come out, to the point where they're not just LISTENING to her. Whether they think some scandal is about to break, or they believe she's ready to announce a national campaign.
Just listen to what she said! Listen to her explanation. Really. It's not difficult to dissect. In fact, it even comes packaged in a convenient metaphor.
baboon,
They're kicking her "on the way out" because they know she's not going anywhere.
Trust me. If anyone truly believed she were done for they wouldn't bother picking her apart. She'd be out of their way. They'd have nothing to fear. Problem for them is they still do and they know it.
Missouri4Palin:
Did you read my previous post about Tony Blankley on This Week with George S quoting Palin's recent poll numbers and then the rest of the panel claiming she could not make a COMEBACK.
I call it cognitive dissonance on steroids.
The facts are that Sarah Palin is a frontrunner for the GOP nomination. Anybody with half a brain knows it, but it is not in the best interest of many (including Romney and Huckabee supporters) to admit that.
Jonah branding her as the "populist". reminds me of how she was branded as "populist" by Alaska establishment when she was taking them on. Looks like the same fight is looming over in Washington DC too.

Rachael:
You have to understand how Rush speaks and thinks. Instead of beating people over the head with his viewpoints and philosophy (as the MSM always claims he does) Rush is the master of the subtle jab, the quick witticism, the penetrating counterpoint, and the cogent commentary that must be digested fully to be appreciated.
Politics is all about alliances, not purity. We don't have to agree with every inch of Hillary supporters' program and they don't have to agree with ours. Our common cause is to defeat Obama and we can ally based on that. If Hillary is gonna defeat Obama in a primary, more power to her. Her supporters will back their candidate and we will back ours and we can all have a great n civilized contest. Whoever wins will have my respect.
That's all speculation. However, Obama is the threat right now and Sarah should focus on that and we should focus on that. If Sarah doesn't want to take on Obama, we'll have to find somebody else who does. That's it.

You're misinterpreting.
What I am saying is if you are really for her and the country, go for it 100%.
Yes, many others are needed to a certain extent, but Obama got elected because a lot of people really worked their tails off and were quite devoted.
When you back someone, you are in a sense taking a gamble.
The key is to stay focused and working towards the same vision, in this case a vision where imperial DC doesn't suck every last breath of air from us.
Sarah needs supporters, but if to get that support she needs to go against what she stands for, then I believe she will stand up for what she thinks is right, and not for political expediency.
Politics drives her to a certain extent, but her idea of service I believe is what really drives her along with her Christian Faith.
I'm with her because she appears to be force against the extreme growth and power of the federal government.
I will not dispute you that others support her for other reasons, and yes that would help her, but the main segment of her support is coming from those who believe the federal government is out of touch with the American people and way to big and overbearing.
Opinion noted.
It will be very interesting to watch the forces of Romney and Huckabee and see how they react as the free'd up Sarah takes flight.
We are alreayd getting so much feedback.
techno, you are right. The MSM is in full mode of branding her "insane" and "erratic." The piece Greta lunked to proves it. Sorry she just was seen on a July 4th parade and yet the person has the gall tow rite she's awol and's erratic. VF set the template and Modo, foxnews and others are following it. This means they either Obama War Room or Romney n GOP beltway knew she was going to this, tried to pre-empt her with that VF hit piece. Now the other people udnerstnad what she has done and they are perpetuating the template set by VF. They understand purposefully that VF was giving them a singal to portray her as mental and that's what they are doing.
Almost worthy of Strindberg's "The Father", except it's being done to a mother.
Hi Rachel,
I think most people - and most good, god-lovin', patriotic people - still have not wrapped their brains around the fact that a politician has just told them she's leaving her citizens so that these citizens can have a continuance of the good, clean government they were used to for almost three years, yet so that they don't get saddled with a governor who has to spend a good portion of their taxpayers' time to defend baseless ethics complaints.
We who read C4P, which covers every word/every move of Sarah (even the bad stuff), are not at all surprised.
It's typical Sarah to those of us who actually have taken the time to learn about her and her ethics/policies. Putting others before herself. Sean Parnell is Sarah with a suit. She puts Alaskans first every waking moment of her day.
You, being a Barbarian, of course, know this.
techno,
Maybe I heard him wrong, but I thought his whole point was that the media is ridiculous for endlessly speculating when "no one has any clue what the hell this was all about."
I think he could've been referring to the fact that no one knows where she's going from here. In that case, I completely agree & his Michael Jackson point is spot on.
But if he's saying - and I don't mean this just for Rush, but EVERYONE saying it - that we don't know why she resigned, as in we don't know her reasoning, then I think that's just plain old not listening.
Sapwolf, just want to add that what you detailed might be your reason, not everybody else's. Regardless of our reasons, we all shld work our tails off to get Obama out and Sarah in.
rachael, he's on vacation, so maybe he didn't listen to the whole speech the gov gave. we'll see what he says after he comes back.
gardunne,
I agree 100%. Exactly what I'm getting at. Everyone thinks there's "something else," which I think is where all this speculation is coming from. They can't just take it for what it is, because they don't know yet that that's exactly who she is.
it is humorous to watch males say that they understand what a lady is doing and that they can explain it to us.
I have lived with my wife for 35 years, and I am still guessing at times.
I found a genie's bottle once. The genie said I could have 3 wishes. I said "I want a bridge to Hawaii." He said that was too big, and he could not do it. So then I asked him to explain women to me. He asked if the bridge should have 2 lanes or four lanes.
I have not seen this brought up anywhere else but many have speculated that Sarah's announcement occurred on July 3rd as symbolic of Sarah of announcing her independence and freedom from the daily onslaught she has faced for the last 9 months but I also believe that it may have been a calculation on her part to coincide with the congregation of thousands at tea parties all around the nation discussing the 'buzz' around the Sarah Palin resignation and causing many of her supporters to come forward and perhaps convince others to join team Sarah. Free publicity never hurt anyone.
Rachael:
With all due respect, listen to what Rush says again. It is exquisite and he says in three minutes what most observers and pundits will say about Sarah's prospects in the next 3 months.
from twitter:
AKGovSarahPalin so I'll make attempt to keep up w/attaching corrected info. I head 2 West AK villages today, look forward to their busy comm fish activity!
========
Wonder how many talking heads will try to figure out 'which' AK villages they have to travel to, in order to get their interview.
I hope she does not sit down with any of them. In less than 3 weeks, she'll no longer be the governor, and will do the choosing of those she wants to speak with.
techno,
With all due respect, read my post(s) again.
I'm not disagreeing with him.
Wisetrog has a good point in that he's on vacation and may not have heard her explanation for himself.
techno, I think she has been mulling on this strategy for a while and the chips stated to fall in place after her NY trip. The people who turned out gave her confidence and the Letterman flap gave her cover. With the Exxon deal done, new AG recruited, everything was in place and she took the earliest way out.
Some at HA speculated that she leaked this info to Mitt team or Obama War Room and they fell for it. That's good speculation, we'll see.
Rachael:
Rush said everything that needed to said. Don't for a minute think that Rush is ever out of the loop, misinformed or not fully informed.
Rush is a genius. He never speaks unless he is sure of what he is speaking of and secondly he knew what he was saying to Brian.
His explanation of Palin's resignation was not fuzzy at all.
techno,
Okay. Rush is a genius and no one should ever question anything he ever says.
Got it, thank you for clearing that up.
wisetrog:
When I congratulated C4P really what I was doing is acknowledging how it rallied support for SarahPAC through its header posts and just as important through the commentaries from ordinary barbarians like you, me, Sapwolf and countless others that rallied 'the choir' and inspired new converts.
wisetrog, I am not discounting your reasons for Sarah pulling the 'trigger' but what it always comes down to in politics: follow the money.
From Sarah's decision I think it is not a stretch to believe that SarahPAC is flush with millions indeed.
Juju,
Point taken. My point is that Sarah is not Hillary.
Yes, if Sarah runs for POTUS she needs every damn vote she can get.
And yes, Hillaryites joined in along with other groups once we and other Sarah supporters went after Letterman. The issue at hand became an issue to support teenage daughters and stop denigrating flight attendants.
But, let's acknowledge that the political, economic, and social beliefs of Hillary and Sarah are very different.
When I saw that appearance by Hillary on TV where the Obama pundits (yes, they pouring into his camp by then) claimed she was crying, I realized it was ridiculous and that she was the victim of the same extreme bias that we conservatives have been victims of for 2+ generations. This was the first experience for many of them of the viciousness. I laugh because I've talked to them and told them "Welcome to the club". I wanted to shield Hillary and punch all the pundits noses out. But, I would never vote for her for that reason alone although I had concern that the attacks were unfair.
Remember the name of THIS website:
Conservatives4Palin
It is not Moderates4Palin or HillaryFans4Palin.
I'm not trying to drive out people, but reminding them of what we stand for.
If Sarah goes leftist overnight, this site dies out for the most part.
I invite those who maybe do not consider themselves conservatives but are big fans to read the following:
Read Russell Kirk's 10 Conservative Principles
http://www.kirkcenter.org/kirk/ten-principles.html
These principles are more in line with the beliefs of Sarah although not totally overlapping.
In closing, I just want to emphasize that it is not enough to simply support Sarah, but to persuade people that her principles and beliefs are sound and true.
Our bodies will go back to dust someday, but our principles and beliefs go beyond to future ages.
techno n rachael, It is my turn to advise that you ordinary barbarians don't fight now. Sapwolf, I love your posts and hope you forgive me.
I love what Ann says here:
I’m confused by all the confusion among the chattering classes about Palin. I thought her press conference explained it very clearly – though she couldn’t put it precisely this way without sounding vain, but it’s obvious.
Even though she’s just a state governor, she’s a HUGE national star who is both sought after and attacked as if she is already a president (a Bush, not an Obama). But she basically can’t participate because she’s tethered to the governor’s office up in Alaska. Consequently, she has to fight with one hand tied behind her back and she also can’t go around the country campaigning for candidates and principles she believes in – because she’s governor and would be accused of neglecting the state.
Meanwhile, the Lt. Gov. is a great guy, so she’s leaving the state in good hands and now she can go on to be an even bigger star.
It’s a weird Washington insider perspective to be perplexed by what she’s doing. Contrary to Mark Sanford’s e-mails to his mistress, no one was really impressed with him; 99.99999999999999999% of Americans didn’t know who he was. Who is more influential: Rush Limbaugh, Matt Drudge and Bill O’Reilly, or Tim Pawlenty, Bobby Jindal and Mark Sanford (before the fall)? As Palin said, God bless people who run for political office, but – and she didn’t say this part – she’s too big to be a lame-duck governor stuck dealing with fishing licenses in Anchorage right now.
She’ll be much bigger now and can play on the national stage without constantly setting off state ethics investigations by loons, parasites and liberals. None of this applied to McCain or Kerry – both of whom went back to the Senate – because their national campaigns diminished them. Palin’s national campaign made her a major star. As she said, she’s not retreating, she’s advancing in another direction.
She took a diss at Pawlenty n Jindal. hah. She is slowly getting into Sarah's side.
Wisetrog,
I ain't mad!
Holy Cow !!! It's taken a while for me to post a comment here on everything as I just had to sit back and digest all of this a bit. It hit me like a bomshell just as I know it did all of you. To say that this woman is not your typical run-of-the-mill polititcian has got to be the understatement of the year, eh ? What a risk taker!
Point one for me (which is actually my secondary point) is that I do think her resigning is going to affect a lot of people negatively in any potential presidential run. You know she's not a quitter. I know she's not a quitter. But for a lot of people who haven't made their minds up about her yet, this argument from the left is going to resonate pretty effectively. Every major decision is going to have its pluses and minuses, and this is the big minus with this one. So...the pluses resulting from it have got to outweigh this minus.
My opinion is that the pluses do far outweigh this minus if she gets out there and actually becomes the spokeswoman and advocate for all of us Americans who now do realize what a disaster Obama's policies and views are for this country, along with those who are going to come to that opinion to their delusion over the next four years. She really does have the potential with her charisma to be that one person to stoke that opposition, and she just wasn't going to be able to do it under her status quo situation. I truly believe her in her explanations for the decision, believe in her, and hope for all of our sakes that it turns out to be the right decision. But it's up to her...and I'm frankly counting on it - excited about it in fact.
Now that she's free to take up this role that she seems to want to take on I am reminded of the exhortation from Mayor Giulianni in his introductory speech to Governor Palin at the Republican Nation Convention speech.....Look Out America ! LOOK OUT !!!
Hey Bill in Baltimore......I was spared some of the anxiety so many others experienced awaiting her mysterious announcement Friday as I heard about it after the fact. I was all packed up with my lawn chairs, blanket, and cooler of brewskis heading over early to the big Baltimore Symphony Orchestra fireworks extravaganza at Oregon Ridge Park. Turned on the car radio to WBAL and they were all over this announcement that had happened an hour earlier. Of course my jaw dropped !! Both Ron Smith's replacement and Ellen Sauerbrey were talking about how it frees her up now to get involved as a real national spokeswoman, and my first reaction was really one of celebration. So who then pops up on their phone lines? Some guy in Baltimore named Bill giving his positive comments on the announcement and also putting in a plug for going to vist C4P. Good job, sir !
What does everybody think about the idea of her moving to the lower 48? I've heard it brought up a couple times.
Personally I can't see it. If she does, my bets are on TX. She likes hot weather and has family there, plus it's a great conservative state. Lord in Heaven please do not let her move to DC right now.
By the way, when I was at Auburn NY and shaking Sarah's hand getting my picture takin, I noticed Todd and her looked right at my C4P shirt, the one with the message "We've got your back, Guv."
I like to believe she appreciates all of you that have done so much to let her know we feel for her and her family and we fight the war for her and also do it taking the high moral ground.
We are not the 'photoshop' crowd.
I really hope to meet some of you in the months to come like Kenton and Piney linking up.
:)
Is Ann Coulter saying Sarah should be a media star like Rush n o'Reilly? I hope not because that's the way her comparisons read.
Wisetrog,
Apology accepted. I hope you can forgive me too. I didn't want to imply that Sarah doesn't need help and support from as many sources as possible. I just fret sometimes that some people might abandon her for single-issue reasons or because maybe they really were not true supporters to begin with.
Sincerely,
Sapwolf
Sapwolf,
You're so lucky you got to meet her!
I'm sure she appreciates all of the hard work from the contributors and supporters of this blog.
Sarah's got her fair share of supporters in Texas:
I like what Congressman John Culberson (R-TX) said: “let’s dare to take Sarah Palin at her word.”
from HA, no link.
Thank you sapwolf, that's the nature of politics. nothing is permanent.
Rachael:
I suggested yesterday that to be closer to the corridors of power, to be able to do media interviews in the Beltway and NYC, to be able to get to destinations in quick fashion and to meet with her kitchen cabinet and advisors on a constant ongoing basis that Sarah set up digs somewhere close, perhaps Northern Virginia where Fred and Jeri Thompson live but I am flexible on where she decides to make her headquarters.
Rachael,
I think Texas is too hot for her if people are use to cold weather. California would be too crazy for her. I'm thinking maybe she'll move to Idaho? Being in the Lower 48 would be better for her if she plans to travel around a lot.
Since Ed moved his she's done post down the blog, the Mary Matalin post is now growing. Enjoy the thread at HA.
As for Huck....I hate to be the one to tell him this, but hosting a pretty lousy weekly talk show is also pretty "risky". Huck's not one I would worry too much about. Though, if he gets his act together, he might make a decent press secretary.
After a long weekend of reflection I have come to this conclusion:
The McCain handlers complained during the election that “Palin had gone Rogue” because she tried to win the campaign. McCain’s own camp claimed they knew they had lost the election in September when the meltdown happened. She alone tried to win. It was too big a chore for one person to handle.
Palin is a winner. America detest losers. The taint from the loser McCain campaign, and the Obamalaskan hit squads had Palin boxed and confined to to a target zone of THEIR choosing. Now Palin has changed all of that. She has again gone Rogue in order to win. She is now the Guerilla fighter & sniper, that can strike at will, and move freely to chose her target rather than the BEING the target. She is no longer a ranking officer of the conservative Continental Army, but the leader of the free moving Militia. How appropriate it is that she decided to go Rogue during the Independence day weekend.
It’s going to take the Militia to beat Obama. The high Ranking Republican Continental Army is toothless, and without leadership.
The Militia has found its leader. Sarah Palin.
July 03,2009- Palin's Independence Day.
Where can I get Rush's explanation of SP's resignation ?
Thanks.
If Sarah's going to move to the lower 48, please Sarah, move to Michigan. We need you here!
A fantastic piece of hardcore political prose by RD at Hot Air:
"...The RINO wing of the party has known the war with its principled base was coming for some time, but I think they figured they had a TREMENDOUS TIME ADVANTAGE over the base, sinces 'foes' like Palin were 'locked in' to their existing commitments until at least 2010, if not 2012, and thus COULDN'T BRING THE FIGHT DIRECTLY TO THEM. With their time advantage, they probably figured they could make their case relatively unobstructed, cut small side deals with the Democrats from time to time that continued to undermine the position of the base (such as immigration perhaps?). continue to open small pinhole leaks in the fabric of their constituency, slowly demoralize the base, and position themselves to blackmail the base as the "only alternative: come 2012 as they always do, on the grounds that conducting open political warfare so close to the 2012 election would mean certain defeat for Republicans.
Now all that is changed. And they know it. And they're pi-ed about it.
Now, they probably think all this is terrible news. After all, aren't they selflessly trying to 'save' the party by manipulating those red-state rubes in the base? But to those of us who knew the fight was coming, who knew the fight had to be waged no matter what, who implicitly understand a fight like this cannot (and ultimately would not) be swept under the rug, this is important news indeed. Because it means that *at least* the bloodbath will be taking place NOW, with lots of time to spare before the next election, instead of smack-dab during the election season.
Until Sarah Palin's announcement, there were all the excuses in the world for postponing the day of reckoning. Now there are few to none. Sorry RINO's.
If this analysis is true, then...Palin's decision is selfless as it means she understood she had to bring the fight now and not in another year and a half, and thus is taking a risk in order to do the right thing for the Republican base."
NB: this should be a header post IMHO.
When I drove to Washington DC directly from Memphis, TN all the way to DC to be at CPAC, I drove through the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
I thought of all the history there, including imagining Robert E. Lee and the Army of Northern Virgina in the distance.
I blurted right out loud in my car:
"Palin Country"
I think it would be a nice place for Sarah to settle that is near DC but solidly her type of place. The people are down-to-earth like her and I think she would feel at home.
napsalot,
Holy cow ! you heard me on the radio !
Yes I was so impressed the Ron Smith's replacement was talking positively and Ellen Sauerbrey (sp) the same.
And you recognized me . . . way cool.
I feel like a Palin spokesman now, I pretty much can talk on any aspect of her situation, though there's plenty more to learn.
Oregon Ridge - awesome !
I've "adopted" Ron Smith for Palin updates and he's responded graciously to my e-mails. Can you adopt someone else there (Sherri Ellicker (sp)), others (see my recent CALL TO ACTION, I will re-post this week).
I've never called talk radio but I felt very confident discussing her with the host.
OK, this Liz Trotta woman has been bashing Palin before. Someone at HA caught it:
Liz Trotta just jumped the shark. Phew! Wonder what the hell’s behind all that?
petefrt on July 5, 2009 at 12:22 PM
You mean this Liz Trotta?
On 5 October 2008, Trotta referred to Sarah Palin’s downs syndrome baby as an inanimate object: “… [Palin was] “dragging it around”, insinuating that Palin was using her baby to garner sympathy.
Her position on Sarah Palin has been known for some time now. She is wholeheartedly a member of the country club wing of the Repub party.
Stay classy, Liz.
