UPDATED: Tammy Bruce on Gov. Palin, the Vanity Fair Hit Piece, and Politico Hack Mike Allen; Ziegler Smacks Down Mike Allen
Tammy Bruce was the guest host on the Laura Ingraham Show this morning, and she discussed Governor Palin, the Vanity Fair Hit Piece, and some comments that Mike Allen, chief political correspondent for Politico, made this morning on MSNBC's Morning Joe:
Via Hot Air, here's the video of "objective" Politico correspondent Mike Allen on Morning Joe where he says this (emphasis added):
I don't think she's taken seriously as a policy person, I don't think that's the sort of circus act the republicans are looking for...
It's difficult to be able to maintain the pretense of being a fair and impartial reporter when you're on MSNBC referring to the former Vice Presidential nominee for the Republican party as a "circus act". Since Mike Allen is the chief political correspondent for Politico, I think it's safe to assume that his bias will set the tone for future coverage on Governor Palin at Politico.
UPDATE by VO: We have audio on the way of John Ziegler crucifying Mike Allen on his radio show. While you're waiting, please read Tammy Bruce's piece on Fox Forum about McCain people loving on Sanford while they trash Palin - C4P gets a shout-out.
UPDATE: John Ziegler had Mike Allen on his radio show this afternoon to give Allen the chance to explain his earlier comments about Governor Palin on MSNBC. Enjoy:

Here's a Yahoo link to a Politico piece on the infighting between McCain staffers over the Governor:

Wow Tammy, HufPo, NRO The Weekly Standard. A great day for Sarah.
The MSM is now engaged in full fledged mode to promote Romney and sink Palin.
Excerpted from a prior posting:
"It seems quite clear that once picked, Palin WAS SABOTAGED FROM WITHIN CAMP MCCAIN. This explains what all us Early Palinistas were amazed at, that being, McCain was utterly blowing it, by the way they were handling/constraining Palin -- we, who knew her well, all asked why won't McCain Camp simply let Sarah be Sarah, the Sarah we all knew!?!
And, of course, Mitt Romney's hands are all over this "bring down Sarah" movement -- both before and now after the election."
Ms.Bruce is Barbarian material. Someone send her a Battle Ax & Viking Helmet.
Guys, listen up:
S.E. Cupp, defender of the good governor and pwner of MSNBC idiots, is putting forth a blog post about what people like about Gov. Palin.
http://red-secupp.blogspot.com/2009/07/reader-help.html
Make your opinion known. AND BE VERY NICE. S.E. is a nice person, and not someone who takes to harsh comments about anyone (even the opposition).
Of course it's Mittens. His clumsy, oafish clown-car manipulating can be spotted a mile a way. And he thinks Movement Conservatives DON'T SEE THIS?
The online conservatives already know that Mitt is in an unholy alliance with the Democrats to destroy Palin. Don't think it won't be remembered.
Boy, it sure is refreshing to hear a gay Republican I mostly agree with. One of my best friends is a gay Republican.
It's too bad they're hard to find.
Tammy Bruce also has a piece up at the Foxnews site with a shout-out to JR and C4P:
McCain's Camp Praises Sanford and Trashes Palin?
I understand that guy because he don't want a conservative woman beating men's butt. What I don't understand is the position of Joe CINO Scarborough.
Sarah has done more for the conservative movement in 8 months than all these male "Republicans" in 20 years.
Joe is following these liberals trying to portray Sarah as uneducated. They would love Sarah to stay away, stop making news and stop being on top of all polls. Dan Quayle only in his wildest dreams he could draw 20,000 people to just see his boring butt.
But is okay. They are just scared. Yes! Yes! Sarah keep giving them hell! Alaska and America is with you!
Way to go Joe. I was actually considering buying your book, perhaps waiting for paperback, but now it's off the table.
Just like how it took FoxNews to make folks realize just how leftist the rest of the media is, Sarah Palin has a way of flushing people out. We see that they're more loyal to their elitist connections than they are to us average "bitter clingers".
Very revealing, Joe.
Joe wants to be invited to Tina Brown's party. Most if not all the talking heads on that show are liberal. Today is the last straw.
I record it and watch it when I get up since I live in Ca. Forget it, I will never watch it again. I get so sick of seeing that stupid smile of
Mike Allen, it makes me want to barf.
Tammy Bruce kicks ass! I love that article!
OT- ktuu reports gunny french to run for Gov.
Wow, Bruce really did a good opinion piece at Fox. She lets these Saboteurs have it with both barrels. Nice shout out to the wonderful piece done by our own Joseph Russo.
This is Civil war amongst the GOP. I can't help but think of the great Carpenters song that sums this up. "It's only just begun..."
There are now 4 threads on HA devoted to Sarah. This must be some sort of record.
French...HAHAHHAHA!
I will love watching the humiliation!
Good Luck with That..Hollis!
here's Mike Murphy's take on it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gClJT2HsNo
Forget Morning Schmoe's book. It ain't worth the paper it's printed on. How many dozen has he sold so far?
Go get Mark R. Levin's Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto.
13 weeks at #1 on the NYT list, and they won't review it or even talk about it.
Over 1 million copies printed, around 800,000 sold and counting.
I hate Politico, they are all WaPo rats that jumped the sinking ship. DC Beltway personified.
Tammy Bruce is great in that clip. I did not hear the whole program, but someone said in the comments here that almost the whole show was Palin talk.
Maybe somebody with a Laura365 account could post the whole show on YouTube or something? I would like to hear it.
Romney would hold a pool party in the axis of evil if it meant getting the nomination.
Tammy Bruce is so strong.
It's funny. Morning Joke actually believes all the "You-da-man!" garbage his MSNBC lapdogs tell him. Poor bewitched, bothered and bewildered Mika. I almost feel sorry for her.
I'm anxious to hear Johnny Zig get after these guys too.
He's always good at not letting the details slide, like Monica and Hannity did on FOX last night.
Wonder if the ADN will try to get Sarah on the record about this stuff?
Seems they love to embarrass the Gov, and this is tailor made to make her look bad.
Apparently another left-wing site, The Daily Kos, has an article about "The Top 5 Reasons to Support Mitt Romney."
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2009/7/1/748899/-5-Reasons-Mitt-Romney-is-the-Guy-to-Watch
Isn't it interesting that all these liberal, left-wing websites are now coming out today to support Mitt? Interesting timing, huh?
With the endorsements of the Huffington Post and now the Daily Kos, Mitt is firmly the favorite of the liberal media.
Sarah will not make a comment. (at least I hope not)
Joe S. has a place on his Morning Joe site where we can leave an e-mail. We need to go there and let him know we have had it with him and his program and forget your book
He knows nothing about what Sarah has been doing in AK. just like these other people on TV. He should not let Allen call her a circus on his program.
Bring It on!!!
I still think the crap is piling up in the nest of the haters and liars. How does the saying go? ..... "Oh what a web we weave when we chose to lie and deceive".
Im not one to tell anyone what to do about all the lies and deception, It certainly needs to be rebuked swiftly, not standing by meekly, but we all could take a lesson from Sarah herself.
She raises the dialogue and captures a moral equivalence, pointing out flawed shallowness of intellect and creating a broader understanding ... revealing the better nature of humankind.
She's proved it a couple of times, just lately, and my hats off to her. She chooses her battles carefully, we don't necessarily have to do that, but maybe thats more our roll as the loyal opposition, defending her back at all cost?
The publicity of returning fire, sometimes is the one and only purpose, of the attacker.....
WHATEVER!... as my granddaughter tells me when I get a little to preachy with her.
Thanks to Tammy Bruce! She is pure awesome. Everything we conservatives and Palin supporters stand for she represents. She is one of the best in talk radio and in writing.
I hope Sarah will come on Tammy's show one day.
If you've ever watched Mike Allen (I've seen him on FOX), he sweats bullets above his non-existent upper lip. Must be from all the lying. It's hard to tapdance around the truth 24/7.
Andrew Breitbart filled in for Dennis Miller today and he interviewed a Politico reporter on Al Franken's win. Andrew's the only one who "gets" that Politico is a dem machine. He was really tough on the reporter for the entire interview.
My favorite question was "How can it be that Norm Coleman had more votes on election night but Al Franken won?"
Regarding veter fraud, Glenn Beck had a sober guest on today (discussing ACORN) who repeated something I had heard before: the dem party has a vested interest in choosing very carefully those folks that preside over state elections before they support them."
Joe advertises himself as a conservative. That's why he tells people to buy his book. What happened? During the campaign he said he loved Palin! What happened?
Ziegler nailed Allen to the cross. He could not substantiate anything he said in his previous interview with MSNBC earlier in the day.
It almost appears that the subject of Sarah Palin not only drives the Far Left crazy but also media types as well to the far reaches of PDS.
Ziegler was so good. He nailed Mike Allen and made Allen look like the idiot he is.
A bunch of liberal hacks in the media and especially Politico.
Clearly, it's the mainstream media that's a circus act, and Mike Allen is playing his part.
If Allen backpedals any faster, he's going to hit the wall and...*BANG!*
Oops, too late.
Tammy Bruce is my new hero...lol.
my new fav quote...
"turning the Reagan GOP (Grand old Party) into the Ensign/Sanford GOP (Grand Old Partaaaay!)".
OT..talking about bumper stickers..Here's my take.
"why do i support Sarah Palin?
Sarah Palin is me"
Atta Girl Tammy!
===========
The Zeiglar interview was delicious.
Zeiglar was good. Damn good. So good in fact I don't know what the hell Allen's point was - nor did Allen himself. And the MSM elite say Governor Palin is dumb? Oh how I would love for this audio of Allen to be played on FOX and other cable news outlets.
Al B.,
Since Schmidt released those other emails between Kristol and Scheumann, I have to conclude that Schmidt is going all-out now. He's going to release everything to cover his a_ _.
Al.
Don't take the bait on that one. She doesn't want to be in the position of having to defend AIP.
I mean, nobody has picked up the story yet. So there's no need to draw attention to the CBS piece.
If those 4 emails between her and Schmidt were tame. If that's the best they've got, so be it.
But, it does show that Schmidt cannot be trusted. The fact that he would release these emails as a CYA move, or worse, to threaten Palin that he can and will release even more damaging ones if she doesn't toe the line, proves that he's scum and should never be entrusted to any candidate's campaign.
Wow, Mike Allen is such a hack. Politico has no more class than TMZ.com. Pity that Joe Scarborough doesn't have the balls to challenge anyone.
That CBS article is hilarious. There is nothing incriminating so the journalist/author has to try to create drama with ridiculous conjecture. "Palin was trying to bend the truth, ever so slightly." he/she says. This is a journalist, stating her/his opinion as fact. And as Al.B said, he/she didn't even sight their name.
They have NOTHING!
TommyReport:
I had a feeling Todd's connection to the AIP would come back into the picture. Actually I predicted that a couple of days ago.
On FR:
Al B:
"Now they're leaking emails Gov. Palin sent during the campaign. They're trying to take her out right now. I think it may get even uglier real soon."
CBS article = more trash.
It is official....
French is running for Gov.
http://www.ktuu.com/Global/story.asp?S=10629202
To Mr. John Ziegler-- good interveiw, had me in stitches, but don't you know better than to have a honest conversation with someone who is incapable of honesty-- well done--I'm still laughing.haaaaa
Gang,
I hope you guys see it the same way I do...she should not be placed in a position of having to respond or defend this group.
See this blog for a point of view on how it's gone.
http://voices.kansascity.com/node/4996
Sarah needs to answer back to these attacks - not in words - but in actions!
I would strongly advise her to tell Stapleton to put together a major fund raising tour of the Lower 48 for the week of Sept 21, when everyone is back from vacation and back in school. It would go like this:
Monday - major public joint fundraising rallies for Perry and SarahPAC in Texas.
Tuesday - major public joint fundraising rallies for the Iowa Republican Party and SarahPAC in Iowa.
Wednesday - major public joint fundraising rallies for Toomey and SarahPAC in central Pennsylvania
Thursday - major public joint fundraising rallies for McDonnell and SarahPAC in Virginia.
Friday - major public joint fundraising rallies for Jim DeMint and SarahPAC in South Carolina.
Saturday and Sunday - an endorsement for Rubio and several major public joint fundraising rallies for Rubio and SarahPAC throughout Florida.
The size and enthusiasm of these rallies across the land will put the fear of god into the media and Mittens, and will serve as Sarah's simple rebuttal to all these smears.
The two that are attributed to the CBS story are Scott Conroy and Susshannah Walshe.
Just deleted the post but this stuff isn't going away.
Later,
Rusty,
I agree...any response to the Vanity Fair article or this CBS article would be major mistakes on her part.
Frankly, Schenemen is doing quite an adequate job responding.
allen is shifty.
ziegler hit it out of the park. he'd make a good journalist.
as to the cbs story: whats the real deal with the aip and todd?
Those emails in the CBS article show that Gov. Palin was the only one with a brain and guts on the McCain/Palin team. She wanted to fight back against the smears; Schmidt was more than willing to accept them.
And, earth to CBS (and Schmidt), every news outlet was running the AIP smear. Sarah was right to want to fight it.
So it’s Sarah's fault now that VF decided to do a hit piece on her. She can disappear into a deep Alaska, not do a single interview, not speak a word and still the MSM will do everything to take her down and blame her for it.
No, Sarah needs to speak up, she needs to rebut every article, comment and statement made against her. George W Bush with his dignity tried to ignore the media and never responded and it didn’t help him. If I were Sarah’s advisor I would tell her to prepare a major speech a convention like knockout and put all those people in place.
Now 5 threads devoted to Sarah Palin on HA.
What's going on here?
Baboon,
It's probably better not to even discuss this issue.
Pure bait in my opinion....designed to put her in a position of having to defend a controversial group.
I'll take more Runners World interviews than any national interview for awhile. Things are simmering too much now in my opinion.
These AIP smears always neglect to mention that Wally Hickel was elected as Governor in 1992 under the banner of the AIP.
Even the Alaska lefties don't badmouth the AIP, it's an Alaska phenomenon.
Sheya , she cant respond to everything , she has chosen her battles wise for now. Otherwise she would get bogged down.
techno:
Odd that HA ignored Gov. Palin's trip to Europe, her statements on missle defense/cap&trade/etc., the Kansas straw poll...the list goes on and on. But Allah (and even Ed) just love to run with McCain campaign sniping. Although the disapprove of the sniping, it's telling that these are the only Palin stories they highlight, while ignoring her accomplishments.
What's the big deal with the CBS article? So she wanted something corrected months ago - something that to this day remains a common talking point among her detractors. The fact that she was told to just shut up & ignore it sums up everything that went wrong in that campaign.
Thanks for proving our point, Wallace/Schmidt/CBS.
VO:
Sarah would have to have known this issue would come up again. I am not a politico and I support Sarah but I try to be objective-if I were Sarah's opponent I would bring this up as well.
Tommmy's got it right she shouldn't response to any of this stuff. It will eventually blow over if Palin doesn't response back.
I find it interesting that Tommy thinks that this email was released for the purpose of baiting Palin to response back.
Here is a challenge for any journalist who reads this.
I will give a million dollars to the one who writes the best and most positive article about Sarah Palin. Come on let’s see how good you are.
OK, I don’t have that kind of cash but let us see if you can rise to the challenge, just for the kick of it.
techno,
"i try to be objective" ;)
o/t: frenchy is running for guv (or at least exploring).
Oh My Good Gawd!
Is this some kind of a delayed April Fool's Day joke on July 1st?
Is Mike Allen for real?
This is how the elite journalistic standard is represented by VF, Politico, et al?
I am liturally stunned by what I just heard as his 'reasoning' for his comments w/ Joe Scarborough.
Scarborough? You fell for that cr*p?
Stop wearing out, beating each other with, the Stupid Stick back east. The government is broke. They can't buy a new one.
That interview ranks up there on the top ten list ...much like the Ramras interview...
Geez..I am at a loss for words...
"Stupid is as Stupid does"...maybe?
AmeriCuda,
you commented on the CBS article about campaign e-mails, etc. with
>>They have NOTHING!
The Sarah Palin Effect # 10 - Live your life as if it is an open book.
I agree the Gov shouldn’t respond to this directly, but I do think that at some point she should make a major speech and address issues about Health Care, Energy, Iran and everything that’s going on today and in the process with her usual charm stick the knife in.
As frustrating as it is to deal with the hit pieces like the VF article and the Mitt-love oozing from the Beltway hacks, ask yourself these questions:
Is THAT all they have on her?
Is HE the best alternative they have?
If that's the case, the 2012 nomination is hers if she wants it.
Always remember..
"Mitt draws 50"
"Sarah draws 20,000+"
Sorry Mitt...keep running...you still lose!
BTW Mitt...how about that "Listening Tour"...thingy?
Rusty,
re: your suggestion for Sarah
>>I would strongly advise her to tell Stapleton to put together a major fund raising tour of the Lower 48 for the week of Sept 21
sounds awesome. Think of her packing stadiums, town hall meetings, etc.
Why not Ohio?
techno, I stand by what I posted over there but this isn't about the AIP issue. I couldn't care less about it. Whether Todd was a member or not is meaningless to me and probably to most of her base of support.
It's about blaming her for the campaign and about painting a picture of her that will influence her supporters to move away from her.
I don't think it will work, but I do think it will get a lot uglier.
I never suggested the Governor should respond to anything. I hope she doesn't.
Now we know how C4P would have been lighting it up
if it had existed the day after her convention speech.
Sarah Palin should absolutely respond. And this is how: do a major speech and hit it out of the park. We all know she can. The biggest meme out there right now, which was the biggest from day one, is that Sarah Palin Is An Idiot. Everything else flows from there. So do it, remind them why she's so awesome.
But we need keep it up on her behalf. Some in the media are starting to defend her also, but we need to be vocal in our defense.
Here's my unleash on McCa strats and Romney if anyone wants to give it a tumble.
http://hbhls.blogspot.com/2009/07/recent-onslaught-of-criticism-directed.html
Al B:
Sorry to link the AIP with your post. I should have made two separate posts.
I thought you said it all in a concise manner.
VO-
"Even the Alaska Lefties don't bad-mouth the AIP...Its an Alaska phenomenon."
Great observation VO...You've got to live in Alaska to understand the whole AIP thing.
The founder of the Alaska Independence Party,Joe Vogler was often an ornery SOB..
But he was a highly respected and intelligent SOB..
TommyReport @ 9:19,
Yea I think I agree. Governor Palin needs to stay far away from this.
Don’t keep stirring the s*it.
But at some point soon she is going to be pinned downed and asked about all of this. I think her answer could be something along the lines of, “look the campaign is over, I had a wonderful experience running with John McCain and I appreciate the wonderful opportunity I had getting to see and meet so many wonderful people on the trail. But the campaign is over and I am not going to relive the past.”
And then just like she did in her debate during her primary race for governor she could say, “look the American people deserve something better than rehashing the last campaign especially at a time when the country is approaching 10% unemployment rate, a quadrupling on the national debt, still relying on foreign sources of energy – my focus as governor of Alaska is to see the natural gas pipeline completed and flowing Alaska’s energy resources to the lower 48, and keeping Alaska fiscally sound, these are the issues that are far more important to Alaskans and to all Americans then some silly people carping about a past campaign.”
In other words, rise above all of this.
Send a message to one of the authors of the stupid CBS piece: http://twitter.com/shushwalshe
You could just feel Ziegler's frustration in that interview. It was entertaining to listen to.
I'm looking even more forward to Gov. Palin's book next year. And I'm really looking forward to her being in charge of her own campaign, should she so choose.
Tammy Bruce gives the gov's RW interview a great plug on her new, improved page:
http://tammybruce.com/2009/07/sarah-palin-running.html
Runners world got quite the big spike yesterday :)
http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/runnersworld.com
It's kind of funny how her interview got ton of press just because of her one comment about Obama.
C4P is almost in the top 20,000 for US sites, well ahead of Mudflats ranking in the US.
LOL, The site that shall not be named gets more international traffic than US traffic?
Off topic but Stanford is a nut case.
Patty,
I'll name her...Devon is only ranked 43,000 in the US.
http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/themudflats.net
She just draws a lot of excrement from Obama's former home.
By the way guys, Shannyn Moore and I had an e-mail exchange, hahaha.
Jean, it's Sanford--without the "t." Please don't trash the Cardinal :)
Just started following Gov. Palin on twitter. She is above 41,000 now. Mitt has 12,000 high-priced beltway advisors following him.
It was a lot more cordial than my last exchange with Dan Fagan via e-mail.
She has spoken out on missile defense, on defense of our troops, on respect for life, the need for reliable energy, on the nearly criminal deficit spending in the stimulus, on the rights of women in the Middle East; all the while actually putting her beliefs in practice. Something Romney hasn't had to do in three years
JZ was out-freakin'standing! And Mike Allen came off as the smarmy little twerp that he really is. Honestly, JZ was like a pitbull with Allen. Sarah definitely needs to find a strong slot for him on her team.
This hubbub was expected, but I think a little late. I would have launched this volley in the middle of June to spike Sarah's exponential support after the Letterman apology rather than at the end of June where it will be negligible the effect it has on SarahPAC dollars.
Sure it might deflect from the numbers declared but eventually the numbers will resonate with the base. After that it won't matter what Romney does.
howlroll, Sorry.
Palin/Ziegler 2012! Thanks for making us aware of this killer interview, C4P.
Ziegler revealed for us that Allen was just making stuff up to feel good/look good in the cocktail crowd spotlight. Most interviewers would stop at the first couple non-answers, but he kept at and at it and at it.
This is the kind of common sense challenging I think I might have expected from Joe Scarborough, but he melted right along with Allen under the hot lights.
THIS YOUTUBE NEEDS TO BE SPREAD AROUND. Especially perhaps in places like the comment sections of Politico and MSNBC.
And btw if you weren't already aware, Zieglers podcasts are free, at least for now.
hmmm...Walshe was the Fox embed on the Palin plane during the campaign. I see she's gone over to the dark side.
That said, the CBS article is really a non-story. To be honest, quite normal and actually somewhat "cordial" communication within the stressful environs of a national campaign having its difficulties. It could've been far, far worse. She had a concern, expressed it, sr. staffer still thought it didn't require a response...she didn't bother with it after a follow-up. Nothing here OTHER THAN the fact that a staffer had the authority to overrule the candidate. What's wrong with this picture?
The reporter just couldn't (or wouldn't) answer the questions. When asked for SPECIFIC details/examples he kept going back into a loop of backtracking.
I guess he was thinking this would be a cakewalk and once the specific questions got aimed at him he "brain locked".
It's a nonstory, the AIP has many factions. Hickel was gov. under their banner, so is he some kind of extremist; a little flaky but insignificant; here's a more significant story, in the queue but given much less play:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/06/29/ap/europe/main5120564.shtml?tag=pop
Al B.
I posted this over at FR but I would post it here as well.
----
I understand your concern about internal e-mails. I don’t know if you remember right after the election the interviews Gov. Palin gave but she eluded to most of the mishandling but would not name names. Well now we know.
CodaCuda2012 --
That was my concern about all this, the leaking of internal campaign correspondence of a sitting governor and VP candidate. I've been watching this stuff for 5 decades...never seen anything like that.
The AIP stuff didn't matter, to me at least. It was the picture they were trying to paint with the Governor's private correspondence. Pretty despicable stuff.
Just worried anew about how bad it's gonna get.
TommyReport
Emailing Dan Fagan and Shanyn Moore.
Do tell. ;)
Al, hopefully the people leaking internal campaign emails of a candidate have moved on to new careers because they will NEVER work as a campaign operative/adviser again. That is, unless, the person is leaking these emails at the behest of a new "employer"/candidate to whom they have pledged allegiance.
3 guesses and the first 2 don't count.
I'm sorry. I am not seeing this CBS article as anything. It is nothing.
I echo howlroll's comments.
I also saw normal, professional email communication. Gov Palin was concerned and let them know.
I also have the same question. Why was a Sr. staffer allowed to override the Governor. This just goes to show that the Staffers made poor poor decisions regarding the campaign and Governor Palin.
In my opinion, this actually makes Schmidt look worse and worse.
I just became a Tammy Bruce fan. Also, I support water-boarding of Mike Allen.
The two people that released the bit for CBS are writing a book about Gov. Palin. I think.
Oh, the frustration of dealing with total idiots!
John Ziegler held it together remarkably. I wanted to reach thru my monitor to choke the guy.
Unbelievable! Mike Allen is an idiot!
He said the same talking point over and over again! John Ziegler is fantastic!
Why did you wait so long to reveal that you are a trig truther?
I think it's kind of swell that the Governor's opposition is engaging in this kind of lunacy.
Guys you are all missing something. That line about how she bends the truth ever so slightly was also used in Vanity Fair hit piece. Meaning, this was dictated by the leaker to the journalists and they are using it not as a quote but as direct statements.
