Award Nominations
Doug Brady wrote a great post earlier proposing August 29, the anniversary of Gov. Palin's nomination as the Republican vice presidential candidate, as "Sarah Palin Day". This is a fine idea. He also nominated yours truly for some kind of award (thanks!). However, I would be remiss not to throw in a few nominations myself. I get a lot of credit for launching the original Draft Palin site, but there are definitely two or three people who did at least as much work as I did and hence deserve awards. So, I would place the following nominations for the Sarah Palin Day Award:
1. Steve Maloney - Steve was the second-ever Palin blogger, and my lonely partner in crime for most of 2007. To be honest, Steve drove some of our earliest endorsements and did a lot of heavy lifting during a time when I couldn't (retirees have more time to blog than intern/college students). No Steve, no Palin Movement - period. By the way - Steve is still involved with a large network of Palin bloggers, C4P is big, but Steve and his gang do a lot to keep together all of the little bloggers for Sarah. If you don't know him, you should.
2. Kristopher Lorelli - Started his own Palin site in early 2008, PalinForVp.com (prompting me to buy up PalinForVP.net, PalinForVP.org, and PalinForVP.info). Despite the odd name similarity, Kris was a great partner, and did even more work behind the scenes than he did with his site. From what I heard, quite a large amount of pro-Palin literature and email was sent to McCain campaign officials by Kris. He's now one of the major brains at the other team blog I contribute to - Race42012.
Commenter of the Year Award - "The Original Ted"
For any hard-core, long-time Palinite who was involved in the movement before Sarah's nomination, Ted needs no introduction. If you got involved later - I'm sure many old-schoolers in the comments section will be happy to tell you about his efforts. I will leave the Ted stories to the commenters - as it seems only right that our commenter award nominee should be lauded primarily by his compatriots below the fold.

I feel I should dress up for these awards; long gown and gloves coming up.
Thank you to all the nominees for their work in helping bring Sarah Palin to the national stage.
OT
The LOTUS has a new blog up:
Did the LOTGOs get the swine flu?

Twitter up. Looks legit: @SPalinAK.
Posts look as if they were made by Palin. Not a lot of followers, however. I went ahead and joined and made a post. Link leads to SarahPAC.
Only thing is that one would have thought she could have gotten all her followers from AKGov transferred over.
Anyone can get a confirm from Meg? Those people are as tight as ticks with information.
So nice of you to give Steve that well deserved nod, Adam.
He's motivated me in so many ways...a persistent encourager, available ear, and all around great friend.
I don't know the other fellas, but, "Here! Here! To you all!"
Stop patting yourselves on the back! For what? The battle has not even begun yet. We need to be in daily prayer for this woman and the path that she is about to embark on these next three years. It will be the most exhilarating ride of a lifetime for us observers, but for this woman it will be an incredible test of determination, grit, and all the political skills and savy she can muster. She is our champion and the opposition if they succeed in slaying her will set the conservative movement back to oblivion. I thank God for this site, but stay focus!
SPalinAK on twitter is NOT her page. That page is pure BS..if that were her page, she would have announced it. Just wait for an official announcement from her. she doesn't even need twitter right now, facebook is enough
SJK -
Trust me - if I know Sarah - something big is in the works right now and you'll see it soon.
There's a reason for the lack of info (other than via facebook) right now - otherwise we would see an official Twitter page already. Sarah is a Twitterholic and a BlackBerry addict - no Twitter means something is up.
As for SP day - I totally get the black tie/evening gown vibe myself. I feel like we should have a digital red carpet or something (how many of ya'll use photshop and are willing to show your faces...lol).
Was talking to may Mom - who was a fixture in her own right in the comments section at the old site - and she suggested a marathon all-night comments thread. At least it would have some value to those of us who remember the massive, all-night, 900 comment thread before the Dayton Rally. Between "Drew" (remember him?) and those of you who foudn and tracked the plane, that was quite a night.
OT:
Sarah's Facebook Supporters just reached the 825,000 mark!! :^D
Oh! And today is Steve Maloney's birthday. Go to his blog Adam linked, and bombard him with good wishes!
Adam,
I wish I had some inkling before I woke up on the 29th that McCain would choose her. If I had, I would have joined that 900 comment thread. I remember that Thursday night as a night I purposely avoided the news (TV and computer) due to Obama's "Sermon at The Greek Temple" in Denver that night. I really was totally surprised when I woke up on the 29th as I said in my post.
Steven -
Having been at this a while, I have become a confirmed incrementalist. If you don't set (and in this case, remember) verious goals along the road as stepping stones, you get very frustrated with a long task.
Plus, for those of us who were part of the Palin movement when it was "Draft Palin for VP", that say WAS victory. Yeah, we had bigger goals in mind - but getting Sarah on the ticket was our expressed, stated goal. That was the day that we won as a movement.
Will there be another big victory in 2012? I think so, but that really doesn't negate the first one. Aug. 29, 2008 was not just a victory for Sarah Palin, it was a victory for grassroots, bottom-up internet activism. That's worth a SMALL moment of nostalgia.
(That, I refuse to let Doug give me all the credit when I don't deserve it by myself)
Thanks for the heads up section9. You're right in that it does look legit. I joined. If it's not legit, then I can always remove it.
Hey Karen Allen!
I have been meaning to send you an email, but I don't mind everyone knowing that I love the Sarah T-shirt I bought from you during the web-a-thon. I really like that photo of Sarah in the red suit jacket top with jeans.
Agreed. It looks like her and sounds like her, but it IS missing the little verification check, so I think I'll wait pending that happening.
Until Sarah HERSELF verifies the twitter page on her facebook page, consider all of the twitter postings bogus. If someone there posts something, consider it BS. Just be patient, Sarah will have twitter sooner or later
Here's my Ted story.
During the months leading up to August 29th, Ted and I would check out any blog that mentioned Sarah. And because he lives on the east coast (am I right, Ted?), he normally would beat me to the comment section.
I remember getting a little peaved at him for leaving the same (but great) comment at every blog. I thought he should change it up some. But then again, how many people were doing the same thing Ted and I were doing? So it didn't matter one whit.
But my favorite Ted memory is how much he got on the nerves of the posters at Race42008. Damn, those were good times.
No one is being impatient, Lakerfanalways. We're not getting wee-weed up over it. :)
I'm just thanking section9 for the heads up. It doesn't hurt or help to join. If it's not legit, I remove it. Easy-peasy.
Adam,
I will admit that I was profoundly and pleasantly surprised by McCain's selection of Palin as VP. I was sure McCain would nominate a woman to shake things up and actually narrowed it down to Kay Bailey Hutchinson and Palin, but I was so sure that McCain would not choose Palin. When he did I was obviously elated and we should all forever be in McCain's debt because of his courageous selection (despite the subsequent mishandling). However, I just wanted to be sure that we aren't satisfied with getting Palin the VP selection. That's fine but as they say, there are bigger fish to fry and the GOP nomination is by no means a given. So celebrate, but keep this blog primed for the book tour and her campaign events (maybe in Virginia this fall?). I know that is her daily toil to prepare for the book tour and the heat of the press. So congratulations, but stay focused for all of us! Thank you all again!
Congratulations to all the fine nominees of the Sarah Palin Day award.
I take the liberty to add my suggestion:
Everyone here at C4P takes time off their busy schedules to fight and defend Sarah against the ruthless smears. As a team you work together to help Sarah advance her cause to preserve, protect and defend the constitution of the United Sates. It’s not always easy and you sometimes get beaten up pretty bad yet you never falter never fade and never give up.
For that my nomination for the Sarah Palin Day award goes to....
YOU!
OT: Hey BettyJo! Thanks so much for that...it really means a lot to me. Honest. :)
BettyJoBialowski,
What was race42008 like back then? I didn't stumble across that blog until after the election results, and their archives don't go back far enough for me to get a gauge as to which candidate the majority of them liked back then.
It's obviously a Mitt site now, but who did they back for the '08 election? Was it Mitt?
The SPalinAK is most likely bogus.
I don’t think her first tweet would be “writing my next Facebook note” she would probably use her first tweet to introduce her new account. Also something tells me Sarah isn’t going to give advance notice on her Facebook statements it takes away from the surprise.
“ Jaw continues to drop further and further.” Is not Sarah’s language.
I may be wrong, take it as you will
Yeah, it's totally bogus. Told ya, I don't believe Sarah will be using twitter anytime soon
I'm usually not one to speculate about what Sarah Palin is going to do next, but it would be cool if says Sarah's first tweet was "Happy Anniversary, Todd!" on Saturday!:)
We're a part of history, gang. Someone on facebook suggested we all donate $29.00 to Sarah Pac on August 29th. We're going to tell our children about how we blogged on C4P.
I think I'll get all dressed up, log into C4P Saturday morning and clap politely as the awards are handed out. This is just too much fun!
As the day wears on I shall revisit some of my favorite Palin speeches, and perhaps indulge in that ice cream cake.
Any other suggestions?
Real Ted can make Chuck Norris cry in 25 characters or less.
Race42008 is not and has never been a Mitt site. As a contributor, we actaully strive to be a site that welcomes ALL people in the GOP, regardless of who the back or where they sit on the spectrum.
The comments section is pretty Mitt-friendly, but the Front-Pagers are pretty diverse.
Well we will find out if the Twitter is legit or not because this was just posted.
SPalinAKMy head is spinning. New Facebook post tomorrow.
3 minutes ago from web.
Yah, I am now beginning to suspect that the SPalinAK page is an Obama plant page. Time to introduce "Sarah" to our old friend, Senator Vreenak of the Romulan Senate.
If every one of her Facebook supporters donated $29 on 8-29...let's see, as of 825,210 supporters that would be $23,931,090. Alot of money. If all her supporters donated $1 it would be alot of money. Spread the idea around, let's shoot for it!
The way things are going, I would think she would post a Facebook note or a statement through SarahPac about her twitter account. Also, I'm sure the account would be verified to begin with this time around.
Until one or both of these things happen, then I will believe it.
Almost $24 million dollars. Now that oughtta help:)
Definitely not Sarah. Time to Vreenak to twit who's posting it.
Why would her head be spinning?
_____________________________________
And Adam, I hear you. The contributors over at that site are diverse, but the posters are mostly for Mitt. It's very obvious.
Still, which candidate had the most support at "race" for '08?
yep 100 percent BOGUS. Just wait for Sarah herself to announce a twitter page. I really don't get why she even needs twitter, she already has facebook. Stop following that fool on twitter, it's not even her, probably some Obot, and that photo they have of her on the twitter page, they stole that from her facebook page
@Yogi41
It's not Sarah. Its an Obot posting messages
I referred the Obot to our old friend, Senator Vreenak. That will settle his hash.
I will be thunderstruck if it's really her. But it's not.
Lakerfanalways,
Yeah, I don't need a correction.
My post was an attempt at humor. Jeez, please, please, please... lighten up a little bit? You're a Lakers fan! We're not this tightly wound. :)
And in case it hasn't come through in this post, I'm saying this in the lightest, funnest tone possible. No malice intended towards you, just know that my posts about her tweets are in jest.
Adam,
It's always great to hear from you. I remember checking your site several times a day all last summer, though I don't think I actually made any comments until she was officially nominated. Thanks for your amazing work. My family and friends would probably also like to thank you as you made the Gov. a topic in a whole lot of my conversations.
Thanks for being such a stand up and humble guy also. You've always been great at giving credit where it was due. God bless you sir.
I look forward to reliving the anniversary of that amazing day. I was not one of the late night posters that night, but woke up to the news, and was back on your site shortly thereafter. It was always a sight/site for sore eyes throughout the campaign.
@Yogi41
My bad, my apologies. I thought you actually believed those twitter postings were from her so I wanted to make sure you knew that. Hopefully she does make a twitter account soon, but even if she doesn't, no worries, she doesn't even need it. Facebook has been AWESOME to her, ask Obama what he thinks of her facebook postings, show me anyone else that makes the president of the united states piss on himself every night LOL. Yep, us Laker fans gotta stick together. Glad we are keeping Lamar, looking forward to next season :-)
Lakerfanalways,
October can't get here soon enough for me. I'm so relieved Lamar stayed, sad that we lost Ariza, but very happy that the rest of our team is intact.
Sad (oh no, I'm turning into Sandra) to hear that Rambis left to coach Minnesota. I had hoped he'd be next in line, after Phil leaves.
I know I'm repeating myself, but oh, well. I think she'll stick with Facebook for now because it's better for long policy-type stuff. She's developing that portion of her platform. Once that's well in hand Twitter will be good for links and rapid response, as well as quick comments and more personal things. But we won't get the icing (Twitter) until we have a nice baked cake (Facebook).
Al Gore invented the internet because Real Ted told him to.
@Yogi41
I think that Kareem should become the new Laker coach after Phil retires. I think this is his last season as a Laker, he already accomplished what he wanted. I was sad to see Trevor go but we got Whacky Ron Artest who is much more talented. Lamar was twittering before he decided to stay with the Lakers, everyone twittered him(including me) and told him to grow a brain and stay with the Lakers, next day he signed :-)
Yogi41:
I didn't find Race42008 until after McCain had already wrapped up the nomination. From what I heard, any Mitt thread always guaranteed lots of comments.
And Martha was as irritating then as she is now.
Ted was a great commenter.
Drew has to get an award. He had the scoop before anyone. All his cryptic posts on the 28th when most had given up. How people at Palin for VP would be happy and how it wasn't Romney or Pawlenty or Hutchison and how it being at a basketball gym was relevant. One of the if not the only time I've ever actually been truly excited about politics and felt like I knew something only a handful of people did.
My other nominations:
Best Actor: Sen John S McCain. He picked Sarah. No one forced him to. Most of his top staff probably didn't want him to. He did it. He saw something in her. He in large part placed his political future with her. He introduced her to the country, gave her an incredible opportunity, and without him, things would have been a lot less fun this past year. No matter what else he does, and I know most conservative don't really care for him, remember that. He could have picked anyone. He picked her.
Hon Mention to Bill Kristol who mentioned Palin on Fox News Sunday in the Spring and was once again proved right. When Bill Kristol makes a preditcion about the GOP and conservative politics, you'd better listen. Also to Mitt Romney for being so annoying and phony and causing McCain to despise him so much that even though he made the most sense for VP McCain just couldn't stand him at all and would never consider picking him.
Best Sup Actor: Joe the Plumber
Best Actress: Duh
Best Sup Actress: Piper Palin and her smoothing Trig's hair during her mom's speech. Priceless. Hon Mention Greta Van Susteren, one the few in the media who gets it. Even if it did seem at times like she was a bit too eager to hang with the "First Dude".
Best Picture: The 2008 RNC, Night 3
Special mention to Gov Palin's Special Olympics video, one of the cutest, most heartfelt things I've ever seen.
Worst Actors: Lehman Bros, who started the market meltdown and economic collapse that prevented Gov Palin from being VP. Way to go, Lehman Bros. Honorable mention to AIG, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Levi Johnston, Andrew Sullivan
Worst Actress: Gwen Ifill. How can a woman who literally wrote a book premised on the importance and significance of Obama's victory have been allowed to moderate a debate? I guess the debate comission will be fair and we'll have Michelle Malkin or Ann Coulter moderate the 2012 Presidential debate. Hon Mention Katie Couric, Kathleen Parker
Best Original Screenplay/Best line:
You Betcha! The very first time I heard Gov Palin speak I instantly thought of the woman from Fargo and that very line. Hon Mention "Someone called me a redneck woman once, you know what I said, 'Why, Thank You!'" and "We met in high school, and two dedaces and five children later he's still my guy" and "This is a man who can give an entire speech about the wars America is fighting and never use the word "victory" except when he's talking about his own campaign." and "There is only one man in this election who has ever really fought for you ... in places where winning means survival and defeat means death ... and that man is John McCain"
Best Song: What else? 'Barracuda' Heart
Man, I'll never forget the overnight thread . . . tracking the plane, Drew with his comments, watching http://www.mccainpalin.com/ go bonkers . . . that was a night to remember.
And Adam, not to question the work Steven and Kris did by any means, but there's another aspect of your contribution to the movement that needs to be mentioned, and that's the work you did identifying supporters and drawing us in. When I put up my post a year ago last June, I didn't even know there was a movement--and then all of a sudden there you were, inviting me to come on in and make myself at home. It was a real gift.
Thanks so much to Adam for the award nomination. He and I both recognized what a remarkable woman and leader Sarah Palin is. A salute also to Kristofer Lorelli, who has done such fine work to adavnce the Palin Movement. In the case of Adam, he demonstrates how much is possible to a young man with a great mission. Adam should be a key figure in Gov. Palin's march to the presidency. I hope to live long enough to see the inauguration of President Piper Palin in 2040. All the best to Conservatives 4 Palin, the tip of the spear in the battle to make Obama a one-term President.
