Governor Palin's Statement on the Current Health Care Debate
Via Facebook:
As more Americans delve into the disturbing details of the nationalized health care plan that the current administration is rushing through Congress, our collective jaw is dropping, and we’re saying not just no, but hell no!
The Democrats promise that a government health care system will reduce the cost of health care, but as the economist Thomas Sowell has pointed out, government health care will not reduce the cost; it will simply refuse to pay the cost. And who will suffer the most when they ration care? The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course. The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s “death panel” so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their “level of productivity in society,” whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.
Health care by definition involves life and death decisions. Human rights and human dignity must be at the center of any health care discussion.
Rep. Michele Bachmann highlighted the Orwellian thinking of the president’s health care advisor, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the brother of the White House chief of staff, in a floor speech to the House of Representatives. I commend her for being a voice for the most precious members of our society, our children and our seniors.
We must step up and engage in this most crucial debate. Nationalizing our health care system is a point of no return for government interference in the lives of its citizens. If we go down this path, there will be no turning back. Ronald Reagan once wrote, “Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this earth.” Let’s stop and think and make our voices heard before it’s too late.

Here is the video of Michele Bachmann's speech, which is cited above:

JR,
Thanks!
"Death panel"-The Grim Reaper
It begins. She has excellent timing to fire her first shot, doesn't she? If she can inject herself more into the debate, she can score a lot of points with the seniors. Romney is AWOL, so this is an excellent chance for for her.
2)Some people have speculated that she should run against big business hand in glove with the government. Here's one more reason as to why:
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/08/07/will-the-pharmaceuticals-rebel-over-dem-welching-on-obamacare/
she is alive!
She's going after Rahm Emmanuel. Man, she must hate that guy! lol
Not no, but HELL NO.
Great to hear from her. Excellent statement. No wasted words.
Take that, Nobama!!!
Funny....my word verification is "amess". That's right, this is "A Mess".
OMG! Gov. Palin said a bad word.
HELL
Awesome statement, thanks JR.
She quotes Sowell and Reagan in the same statement. And to boot she uses a speech from, my 2nd favorite conservative, MB.
Let's watch the thugs go viral.
Let it be written
I love her referencing Sowell...
GO, SARAH, GO!!!
She said she will not be politically correct. "Death Panel". Call'em out Sarah, call'em out. Nobody is as loyal voters as the elderly. Obama may have went after the wrong group.
Reservation for American private citizen, against ObamaCare mob of 1for Obama's kitchen, please.

That's the first time I've seen Michele wearing glasses. She should wear them more often, they look great on her.
And great piece by Sarah, as always.
The folks at MSNBC and the White House must be in a tizzy!
You know, she didn't "exactly" say this in her resignation speech or farewell speech, but I think one of the reasons she resigned is things like this. She realized that she had to get out and fight stuff like this full time - and now.
Way to go Sarah! (Palin/Bachmann 2012?)
TOTUS furiously fanning a sweating, breathing into a paper bag, Not So Cool, One.
Great statement!
Awesome awesome awesome awesome. Awesome that her first official word since leaving office is a solid policy piece.
And of course, selfishly, it is good to hear from her.
I guess this means the ACORN Gestapo hotline at the White House will be called on Sarah Palin.
Great piece by Sarah.
I love that she is debating policy and effectively discussing the hazards of this bill.
Name-dropping Thomas Sowell and Michele Bachmann is double the awesome!
YES! That is an awesome statement. It is also very well timed. Thanks Sarah Palin for telling it like it is. Thanks C4P so much for posting it. I stood up and cheered :)
Who needs a prime time slot?
Obama's policies are skeet to her.
Betcha she's on the White House snitch list now. I'm sure I'm already on it....so I'll be in great company.
Another thing. She presents and attacks "policies". No character assassination stuff!
YES YES YES YES YES, THAT'S MY SARAH!!!
I was waiting for her to speak out on this and she has DONE IT PERFECTLY!!! THANK GOD. Now we need Sarah to speak at the tea party in Washington D.C, that would be HUGE!! WE WONT GIVE UP THE FIGHT SARAH, WE WILL STAND UP FOR AMERICA
So should I hold my breathe until HotAir and National Review give this a mention? No?
I can see Anderson Cooper right now, with his head cocked to the side like a dog, in puzzlement, trying to figure out this statement. Oh, sorry, he wouldn't be reading it right now, give it a day or two. He is part of the state run media, and they are always a little slow with news. How long did it take them to realize she was in NYC?
While that AARP "mob" will get her statement, no problem.
What's the matter RedHead, posted that crap and then chicken out did ya?
blackheadtroll said:

"Such a system is downright evil."
Eeesh. Sorry, but to me, this does not appear to be a great statement by Palin.
What's with the "death panel" talk? That seems to be quite a stretch from anything I have heard.
This kind of talk feeds the fires of those already in her camp, but I don't see how it brings more in. So, I guess that must not be her intention. Which is fine - just not what I was hoping for. She may truly be out of the game of running for office herself.
I suppose the one and only intent here is to get this bill stopped. IMO, it was going to be killed anyway.
I think the unfortunate thing is that the left will certainly cite this statement as evidence of Palin being divisive, and that in this instance, it is probably true.
The Leftists are gonna read this and go berserk :)
lol readhead no one cares. you jokers are pulling for more straws.
connertown, let her find her feet first. This is the first time she has commented on national policy. I think she will test the waters and then wade into the wonk talk.
So it is written, so it is done. Let's oppose Obamacare more vigorously than ever now!
What? Hoosier chocolates?
@ Redhead
You are an idiot who cannot read.
The document you reference dated August 3rd is a MOTION to AMMEND a prior complaint.
It is not a lawsuit.
Stupid troll. I mean "stupid" in the most spiteful and hurtful way, of course.
Redhead, You people are a joke.
Sarah Palin can now fight back and the latest filing, well how can I put this.
There is a rumor that an iceberg is about hit so you better get out of the way.
HeHeHe
O/T but politics led to Twitter attack, just not US politics! (This time.)
http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/patterson/55202
@ Redhead
That's not what the text says.
Can you not read?
Any nutjob can file anything they want up in Alaska, and that ain't no rumor.
1. Too funny that Palin fires a shot soon to be heard around the world on healthcare, and it brings out the trolls talking about totally unrelated things. How predictable. And what a playbook - attack the messenger, attack the messenger - not very original.
2. So is Palin working with Bachmann since she posted the video in her statement? I would think so. Good day!
This is why my wife and I are Sarahpac members.
Great statement Sarah. Keep hitting them where it counts. America needs you Sarah! These are the times we lookfor leaders. Obama never stood up for the protesters in Iran and the movement fell to the wayside.
Sarah, people are looking for someone to galvanize their thoughts and emotions. Until they find that leader, people will do what they can on thei own grass-roots level. No one can garner coverage like yu can Sarah! I know you will read this one way or another. Either you will see it or it will get passed along to you.
Be ther on 9/12 to lead the "folks" into battle.
God bless you Sarah and C4P.
There's also a lot of nutjobs who take those nutty complaints seriously, and that ain't no rumor.
It is a request to amend an existing lawsuit. I will concede that.
It does not stand as a suit on its own.
Can the mod hammer please get this comment section back on the healthcare statement?
As a bystander, I'll just ask red, conner, and whoever else, take the bribe nonsense to the open thread, please.
Thanks.
The time to pander to independents and expand your base is after you win the nomination. Obama showed not even then. So, let her inspire the base.
BTW, didn't Obama keep hitting Bush all till 2008 and beyond and then offered himself as an "agent of change?" Wasn't that divisive? Didn't Kerry do it? Is it only divisive if Republicans do it?
Bottomline, she has to chip at the protective aura of Obama or otherwise he'll be invulnerable in 2012. The others in the GOP are afraid to take him on and tiptoeing around him. She isn't.
Hrh
She fired a shot to be heard on facebook. Sorry the only thing that will make the news is the stupid death panel comment and make her look a fool.
Death panel...eyeroll
How does she even expect to be taken seriously with that kind of made up crap. Maybe she needs to stop making stuff up...haha
Speaking of Palin's timing:
Huckabee was just on Cavuto touting his (H's) healthcare special this weekend. And Cavuto was coyly egging him on to higher office.
Wonder who's healthcare words will get more attention this weekend, Huckabee's or Palin's?
Redhead,
The stupid thing will get thrown out.
TFV will probably counter sue for all kinds of things.
You people don't know what you started but SP will finish it.
Now go play with GIff
Redhead, more comments from you will be deleted. Quit hijacking the thread. Go play with your pervy friend Griffin or Gryphen or whatever the hell his name is.
rh
The bill will fail.
Palin may get part of the credit for that via this. Not sure that was the way to play it. I was wanting to see the Tea Parties take care of this during the recess.
But it is deader than Morley, or a doornail.
Sarah's rock'in and talk'in and taking names... what a breath of fresh air-love it!
We've got your back Sarah, like she really needs it... it didn't take long for our Lady to recharge her engines-and ours!
Sleep like a baby tonight, Sarah's Captaining the Ship-of-State-well maybe a little premature or is it?
Sarah's navigation system is straight from the NORTH STAR.
POTUS just licks his finger and sticks it in the air-that air is now a hurricane blowing his Ship-of-State in a well deserved death spiral.
God Bless our Lady Captian.

Its more fun to play here, Giff is crying in the corner, cause he got his hand smacked for professing things he has no proof of

Red: True story from Oregon
A woman on state healthcare had her cancer return. Her doctor said the best option was for her to take aggressive chemotherapy.
The state healthcare said nope, you're 70-something. We'll pay for hospice care or assisted suicide.
But not chemo.
What would you call that?
I'd call it a "death panel."
Bribed by chocolates?
Are you serious?
In that speech at the Indiana Right to Life Banquet, Sarah anticipated this nonsense, and mocked it in advance.
She actually said, in a very humorous comment that she was "bribed" by chocolates and pastries.
Now they are seriously trying to say that that constituted a bribe?
Why don't you go study up on the Detroit City Council President, Monica Conyers. Wife of Democrat Congressional Dinosaur John Conyers.
That is bribery. Cash payments to steer govt contracts to those making the payments.
Good grief, this is funny.
You are proving Sarah's case for her with every stupid move you make.
Go to page 425 of the bill and keep reading. Sounds like death panel stuff to me. "End of life" couseling and all that. Take a look at the Congressional GOP flowchart for ObamaCare -- lots of various death panels to go through there.
RedHead, get lost. You annoy me.
Redhead,
Ask Mudflats this question for me since she doesn't let dissenting voices onto her blog. Has Mudflats and her group of anti-military anti-America bloggers recognized yet that it's not the government's job to feed Nicolas Tucker?
conner, Cavuto just had a panel with Coulter, Steve Moore from WSJ, and someone from the Cato institute.
They all seemed pretty sure that something will pass this fall.
Anything that passes even remotely like what they're talking about will be bad.
It is not dead in the water. Don't get cocky or complacent.
I'll be at a tea party here in CT Monday night ...

Can't we deal with trolls by providing facts? I think it helps to sharpen the saw.
Admittedly, it's a side discussion. That happens all the time on most of the blogs I frequent.
I don't want this to be just a fan-club. I come here hoping for discussion. Mostly among like-thinking folks, but not a walled garden.
I'm inclined to think that a govt committee whose mission is to push dying as an alternative to life extending treatments qualifies as a death panel.
More people will read her statement on Facebook, then will see it mentioned on CNN, whenever they figure out she made one.
Kris Lorelli at Race is doing a great job on this story as well...'Cuda should look into it:

Connor,
See the link I just provided.
Connertown: Yeah Sarah is too divisive, like these other divisive people in history:
George Washington: Should have just surrendered at Valley Forge.
Abraham Lincoln: Should have never freed the slaves. THAT was was pretty damn divisive, along with the whole fighting of the Civil War. Divisive, divisive, divisive.
Franklin Roosevelt: Divisive to go after Hitler, who afterall, had never attacked America. Too DIVISIVE. Damn Divisive!
Ronald Reagan: Told Gorbachev to "Tear Down that Wall" against the advice of his advisors. Can you say DIVISIVE?
Yep, Sarah is just another polarizing divisive figure needlessly drawing attention to the gentle health bureaucrats who only want to give your grandma the pain pill to alleviate her health concerns.
Who needs THAT kind of divisiveness????
Hmmm,
I wonder why the right wing can never explain why France and Canada both have a higher life expectancy rate and a lower infant mortality rate than US. Cause if you listen to right wing radio they make it sound like people are dying left and right because of thier healthcare.
One other thing they have over us is that they can freely say that no one in thier countries with thier government run healthcare has ever gone bankrupt or lost thier homes because of medical bills. Americans can not say the same thing.
conner, we do engage some who want to be engaged. But those of us who have been here for awhile recongize Red for what it is.
It has been here off and on before. Usually when good Palin news comes out and Palin hits one out of the park.
Red and a few others show up to spew. Usually on a topic having nothing to do with the one at hand.
Distract. Attack the messenger. Etc.
You can't engage people who don't want to be engaged. They're just troublemakers.
I don't know that you speak for other than yourself connertown.
By design this is a site SUPPORTING PALIN. There are numerous general political discussion sites.
Yes BigRed the same federal courts that people have been filing them crazy birther suits in for almost a year. Get a clue.
hrh, no one cares what Huckabee has to say about anything, the only one in the gop who gets any attention paid to them is Sarah Palin. In her cap and trade statement she didn't really say anything really new, but the left called out Kerry, Boxer, Markey, and MoveOn.org to attack her. Watch MoveOn.org announce that they are raising money for another one of their pathetic basement production ads. Basement production is actually a compliment, maybe outhouse production ad would be better.
By Sunday even the MSM will be carrying her statement or at least quoting from it. Let the fireworks begin.
hrh
I didn't mean to be cocky. I just meant that the wheels are in motion.
I plan to be at Tea Party in Overland Park, KS. We got us a Blue Dog to convince.
I will concede that something may pass. But if it does, I think the Blue Dogs will get roughed up in the 2010 elections.
M03 you forgot Andrew Jackson, apparently some people won't even use 20$ because they hate him.
K, just one more engagement.
Redhead, you're kidding me right? France and Canada have a lower infant mortality rate? Let's see, they have fewer babies to begin with. And lots of abortion.
I'd call that a high infant mortality rate.
And if we're rightwingers (I think Tim and ladydawnelle would find that amusing), then I guess you're a leftwinger. BTW, I'm an Independent.
So why are you here at CONSERVATIVES 4 PALIN? None of those three words seems to apply to you. Buh-bye.

connor, redhead, this latest suit by Chatman and Royal is a federal case. An ethics complaint was filed over this same issue last October and was tossed out as having no merit.
This is a gigantic waste of time and typical of the whole smear campaign.
"End of Life Counseling" = Death Panel.
Works for me.
The President himself said at a townhall about health care recently when asked about an elderly relative of the questioner needing a pacemaker, I think it was, that instead of taking the surgery maybe she would be better off taking a pain pill.
Who the hell is he to decide that?
In his response to that one question, he was already a death panel of one.
This is what is coming.
Read Tom Daschle's book, it's all in there.
Declining returns on health care dollars from the government the older you are.
Just try to be comfortable and wait for death, while younger people who can still vote next cycle get priority.
Sarah is right on target, and the liberals are lying to America.
Why else would this have to get done so quickly? They don't want anyone to figure out what the actual plan is, because most Americans will revolt against it. That is what is happening now.
This is the "Change". This is the "transformation of America".
He's going to transform America, alright. Straight into a system that is completely contradictory to the Founding Fathers' intentions, laid out in the Declaration of Independence, and Constitution of the United States.
I happen to think the "death panel" characterization is not even remotely hyperbolic. It is quite accurate in my view. What better way to describe these ridiculous (and yes, evil) government "end of life counselors" or whatever they're calling them, that will decide whose life is worthwhile enough to spend money on?
The Democrats bank on ordinary Americans not paying attention to the truth. But sometimes things that sound too outrageous to be true actually are true. Like this hideous health care plan. Or, I don't know, some senator being sick enough to oppose protecting babies that survive botched abortions.
And she is equally justified in calling out Rahm's freak of a brother. Take a gander at some of his views and you'll get chills up your spine.
The Gov's not making some plea to her base, she's standing up for ordinary Americans who need to know WTF is going on here. Thank God for her.

Personally, I like the "Death Panel" image. It viscerally defines the worst case scenario that is buried within the HC bill.
(And I wish there were some way she could take credit for that Obama Joker poster that's showing up everywhere! That would be an awesome 1-2 shot!)
I love it - take the battle to them! We've been too docile and polite for too long.
@ katiejane
Does anyone here speak for someone other than themselves?
If so, that would be the true definition of astroturfing.
It ain't me, babe.
I'm a big Palin fan, and wish the best for her. To me, this statement didn't fit my ideal. I wanted the Tea Parties to carry the movement, and they need to grow and spread the message that they are fully informed, independent-minded voters.
I'm so glad she's coming out of her time off to comment of this. What Obama and the liberals are doing makes me mad (and it's not manufactured anger--it's pretty real) and I think it earns her points in showing that she is serious about what is happening to our county today. She's not just some "crazy conservative"--she has substantiate ideas and she's ready to fight the evil that is happening in our country. Her words inspire me to work hard and tell everyone about this horrible plan.
And readhead, I'm not quite sure what kind of source you trust for your information, but it appears I have slightly higher standards than you. The FBI, a group that is pretty reputable, said that she is not under federal investigation for anything and they have no plans to have an investigate her for anything in the near future. If I were you, I'd pick better sources or else risk being embarrassed. I'm glad I can help point you in the right direction!
Time has an excellent article up on healthcare. The key:
Everything is different this time--everything, that is, except the plan. The Democrats are seeking mostly the same policies they sought 15 years ago: mandates, regulations on insurance companies, new government-managed markets. The major difference is that this time they also want a "public option," an insurance program open to everyone and run by the government. Obamacare is Clintoncare with a little more liberalism.
The Democrats have apparently concluded that it was tactical blunders that sank Clinton. It wasn't. It was his plan. Like today's plans, it had too many conflicting goals.
Stanley Greenberg, who was polling for Clinton back then, recently reminded Democrats that the insured public in the early '90s just could not be persuaded that the President was going to cut its costs by expanding coverage for others. No amount of clever strategizing is going to make the sales job easier this time.
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1914973-2,00.html
hrh,
your kidding right? They have fewer babies? You know it is calculated as a percentage of live births dont you. Its not because we have more babies.
What about the fact that we also spend more on healthcare than they do for less favorable outcomes than they do. Its because we waste alot
Sarah's statement is PERFECT. The only ones who find a problem with her statement are those who SUPPORT Obama's DeathCare. If you want it so bad, U CAN HAVE IT. WE DONT WANT TO WAIT IN LINE TO SEE A DAMN DOCTOR OK. U want socialized medicine, MOVE TO CANADA. We are happy with our health care system here, we don't want the damn government telling us who lives and who dies. Obama is NOT God, even though the media pretends he is God, he is nothing more then a Dictator. God Bless Sarah for speaking the TRUTH
Redhead,
There is no healthcare crisis in America. Get over it pal.
It's not the government's job to treat sick people.

You believe what you want to believe. Every data source has a perspective, and there are plenty that confirm that healthcare in the USA is second to none.
But it ain't even about that. It's about FREEDOM. And many of us see the path to hell where nationalized healthcare leads. It is a concession to freedom. And those of us in our corner will not give an inch.
Tommy
1. Griffin is an idiot, a bait and switch scam artist.
2. Obama ran his campaign on healthcare reform, that is what the people voted for and wanted. He must do it or he is a liar and a fraud. It must be done
Russo,
Put up this polling data so Redhead can find out what most Americans think about "healthcare reform."
Health Reform and the Polls
Obama’s biggest obstacle is the 68% of voters who rate their health coverage as good or excellent.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204313604574330442429438938.html
"The most important fundamental is that 68% of American voters have health-insurance coverage they rate good or excellent. That number comes from polling conducted this past weekend of 1,000 likely voters. Most of these voters approach the health-care reform debate fearing that they have more to lose than to gain.
Adding to President Barack Obama’s challenge as he sells health-care reform to the public is the fact that most voters are skeptical about the government’s ability to do anything well. While the president says his plan will reduce costs, 53% believe it will have the opposite effect.
There’s also the reality that 74% of voters rate the quality of care they now receive as good or excellent. And 50% fear that if Congress passes health-care reform, it will lead to a decline in the quality of that care."
Daniel Hannen, British Member of the European Parliament, gave a terrific speech at the Young America's Foundation Student Conference in DC the other day.
I watched it last night at the ustream channel for the YAF conference.
He warns America not to go down the road that the UK has gone down.
He warns that once you turn that corner and institute government health care, it is almost politically impossible to unravel it.
He pointed out that the UK's National Health Service is the third largest employer in the world, behind the Chinese Army, and India's state railway system.
One heck of a voting block there, isn't it?
Beyond the tipping point is the whole idea behind this secretive cramdown, sneak us right by the point of no return before too many people know what is happening.
Very good stuff, I suggest you guys here at C4P look it up and post it.
"Those opposed to Mr. Obama’s reform appear to have momentum on their side. Polling last weekend showed that 48% of voters rate the U.S. health-care system as good or excellent. That’s up from 35% in May and up from 29% a year ago. Only 19% now rate the system as poor, down from 37% a year ago. It appears that the prospect of changing health care has made the existing system look better to a lot of people.
Beyond the intensity of the opposition and its momentum, there is also a huge partisan gap that puts congressional Democrats in a very difficult position. Currently, 76% of Democratic voters favor the health-care reform plan proposed by Mr. Obama and the congressional Democrats, and they are counting on their representatives to deliver.
But delivering for the Democratic base has the potential to hurt the party’s standing among independents. Among the unaffiliated, 35% are in favor of the Democrats’ health-care reform initiative, and 60% are opposed. Notably, just 16% of unaffiliated voters strongly favor the legislative effort; 47% strongly oppose it."

Fixed it for you.
But I agree with you that Obama was forced to go down this road by promises he made to the "progressives". He has to throw them a bone.

Conner,
Its not a belief, facts are facts and those facts are not disputable, they come from the WHO.
I never said our healthcare itself was not excellent, for those that get it. But you must admit there is alot of waste that we pay for that is unnecessary. When you go to the hospital and pay 4 dollars for an aspirin, thats ridiculous.
But many go without healthcare, then they get hurt or get sick and we who pay for healthcare end up paying for them as well. You are paying for them already, but if they had to pay, or could afford to pay too maybe you wouldn't have to pay so much.
Politicians usually couch things in jargon that people can't understand. That's how they "bamboozle" people.
Sarah, not being a politician, but a leader, cuts through the CRAP.
She's no doubt read the 1,000 bill or large chunks of it. She's rooted out the Washington speak, and boiled it down to its essence:
Gov't Wants Power to Make Life-Death Decisions
My mom is 67 years old. She has a serious heart condition. She was diagnosed with it seven years ago, and has actually gotten BETTER through exercise and medication. But she still may need a heart procedure to deal with her atrial fibrolation.
My concern would be that under Obamacare, they would say she was too old for any coverage.
But her father lived 'til 93, so that is possibly cheating her out of 16 years of life, enough life to see her grandchildren graduate from college, get married, maybe even enough life to meet her great-grandchildren.
Gov't shouldn't be in the business of determining who lives and dies.
How in hell is Romney more experienced than huckabee?
Fundraising for Newt is off, the man did rasie 10 million.
Sarah 3 of 4 and 2 1/2 years to wk on one.
All the seniors dropping aarp membership understand it is a death panel. They will deny care because it is not cost efficient.Old folks and their kids(40 and 50 somethings) do see what is happening. To decrease medicare funding so illegals get health care in not going over too big.Plus once the system is in place they demand electronic access to your bank accounts so they can get payment. This is so un-American!
red
The WHO is not the all-knowing keeper of "facts". They have an opinion and perspective. If you don't believe that, then you are fooling only yourself.
Understood about people going without healthcare. My best friend was laid off, and has been working part-time for a year.
And this is the peak time of need. If the recession continues, then I think something will be done.
But it doesn't have to be done by the federal government.
And it doesn't have to be done in a 1,000 page bill that people have not read.
And we don't have to stand by and watch unsustainable legislation get passed.

The last thing I want is MORE government driving up costs and reducing the quality of care we get here in the states.
Well NRO has it, sadly AllahPundit is waiting for Kathleen Parker or Peggy Noonan to smear her before he will post anything.
Redhead, you talk about waste as a problem. Sure, reform of the health systems is something we should be doing. The problem is, how do you define "reform"?
I do not consider this "public option" to be a legitimate reform. It's is a Federal Government takeover of an industry that is private sector and leads the world in quality of care, and technological breakthroughs that save lives.
Why people like you think that running the health care system from DC like the Post Office and the DMV in your state would eliminate any waste is so puzzling.
In my state, Tennessee, a state run health insurance program was tried in the '90s.
It was a disaster, exploding fraud and waste, then not paying for services rendered, when payments were made they were much less than it cost to provide them.
Doctors stopped taking the program because it caused them to lose money.
It had to be shut down eventually, breaking the state budget.
The Governor who shut it down was no right winger, he's a former Mayor of Nashville who was a hospital CEO before that. He knows the heath industry well. He is Governor Phil Bredesen (D-TN).
I suppose you know more than he does, though.
I like KLO's tactics.
Oops. I meant KlO's title. Bit dizzy.
@snooper
When he does, what's the over/under on comments?
I say over 1,200. Bet?
Redhead...do you buy Health Insurance? Do you like your coverage?? Do like the fact that you don't pay any taxes on it??
Do you like the fact that your older relatives can still get a hip replacement at the age of 75 but under OBAMA care that will not be an option??? Do you like the fact that your taxes will increase to pay for OBAMACARE??
If so...you are among the minority.
65% of Americans don't want this and that number will continue to to increase
Great statement from Gov. Palin.
"The Democrats promise that a government health care system will reduce the cost of health care, but as the economist Thomas Sowell has pointed out, government health care will not reduce the cost; it will simply refuse to pay the cost. Such a system is downright evil."
This is exactly how the fascist justified euthanasia against the physically and mental disable. Gov. Palin has hit the nail on the head with the above quote.
I may get flamed or even banned but this needed to be said.
I usually don't say this but Gov. Palin needs to go on TV with this statement or a variation of it and fast.
From Brian72's comment:
"Doctors stopped taking the program because it caused them to lose money."
Exactly. And how do you stop that from happening? You make it against the law for them to refuse.
Prime example of loss of freedom.

Well if Jindal or Pawlenty had done this it would be up by now with SWEET! in the headline. Because it's her, it may never be posted and if it is he will find a way to mock her.
So yes it will get at least 4 pages of comments.
Great overall statement. However, I wish Sarah would NOT use curse words. Yes, we all do it, but it doesn't look professional for her to say things like "hell" and "damn".
It just doesn't. Flame away.
"UPDATE: There are many passionate responses of differing stripes on my Facebook page."
What does that mean?
@ GWITRino
Flame on.
You have got to be kidding, right?
Saying "not just no, but hell no" was the absolute best part of it.
It simply means emphasis and non-negotiability. Not to mention that it is a faily common statement.
Another aspect of government run health care is that once the Feds are paying for your health, they then have justification to regulate away your freedom of choice in all sorts of areas of your life on the basis of cost savings.
This is happening in the UK now.
They want to tell you what you can eat, when you can eat it, how much you are allowed to weigh.
Do you drink more alchoholic beverages than we think you should?
No insurance for you!
Do you like to get a cupcake at 12:30am for a midnight snack? Obesity is expensive.
No insurance for you!
ect.,ect.,ect.
Freedom is at stake here.
Freedom of CHOICE. I thought you liberals were pro choice?
Death Panel is a perfect allegory for the "end of life" portion of the bill; I have no problem with her use of terminology.
But my favorite line is "Such a system is downright evil". That says it all for me. Simple and straight-forward - this bill IS evil, and it's not what Americans are about. We protect and honor our most vulnerable citizens; we do not discard them.
This is on the Yahoo! front page. Not a serious post but interesting to a gamer like me.

Redhead, I suspect that being the destination of choice for immigration from the third world, both legal and illegal, may have something to do with infant mortality.
I think that there are many things that could be done to improve our healthcare system. We need to lower the actual cost of healthcare, not just deny care or have someone else pay. Malpractice tort reform is high on the list -- don't see that it the bill.
And of course, while our representatives are assuring us of what the bill will and won't do, they haven't written it yet, there are three versions and who knows how many hundred pages will be added the night before it hits the floor. We're at the railroad tracks, we need to stop, look and listen or the train will most surely hit us.
Sarah is brave, and she is gonna take Obama and the Statists on. She understands more than any GOP politician what is at stake.
Her statement was timed well, and her words were just right.
If any of you have read the bill at all, especially regarding the part of the panels that will get between you and your doctor and give you a thumbs down, it is very chilling stuff.
Sarah is smart. She knows that if this passes in its current form, it is in effect over. Once the Dem Statists get control of healthcare, we will not be able to go back: checkmate.
And yes, once you read the bill, you have to conclude this is a monstrously malignant creation.
I think Sarah should attend one or two townhalls at least in red districts. It'd start her in getting experience in the townhall format which is very important.
wjshipley:
You are absolutely right.
Tort Reform is a big, big deal in this cost factor.
Remember, the Democrats wanted an inexperienced lightweight nobody to be a heartbeat away from the button in 2004.
What was his experience?
Suing doctors into financial ruin.
John Edwards made $60million off of lawsuits against the people who deliver babies.
Many were of dubious nature, but he got a jury judgment anyway with his patented "Silky Pony" sobstory act.
He, and those like him, are a big reason medical care is so expensive because these huge lawsuit judgements drive up insurance costs for the care providers to an unbearable level.
The Democrats in Congress, and Obama himself, are mostly lawyers who are in the pocket of the trial lawyers lobby, and no reform will be permitted.
Just let them continue suing everything that moves.
Redhead,
I wonder why the right wing can never explain why France and Canada both have a higher life expectancy rate and a lower infant mortality rate than US.
If it's explained to you would you actually change your viewpoint or would you just ignore the data and analysis and still cling to your myth?
You have a very simple model that explains life expectancy and infant mortality, which amounts to:
Health care funding system ---> Outcome.
This model is bogus because it doesn't account for population differences. Here's the most glaring example, Hispanic infant mortality. The socioeconomic status of Hispanics is comparable to African Americans, as is their access to all the bells and whistles of the heathcare system, and yet their infant mortality rate, which we would expect to be in the vicinity of the African American rate, is actually better than the infant mortality rate of Caucasians.
Further, on the subject of infant mortality, there are scores of studies which show racial and ethnic peculiarities with regards to low birth weight deliveries and multiple births, and these two factors are significant contributors to infant mortality risk. See this journal:Birth rates of dizygotic twins vary by race (10-40 per 1000 in blacks, 7-10 per 1000 births in whites, and approximately 3 per 1000 in Asians), maternal age (ie, increasing frequency with increasing maternal age £ 40 y), and other factors such as parity and mode of fertilization (ie, most artificially conceived twins are dizygotic; however, 6-10% are monozygotic).
Here's the point, anyone familiar with statistical analysis will tell you that you have to control for variables that will influence the relationship you want to study. Canada and France have a different demographic profile than the US. Until you control for different population composition you are looking at gibberish when you try to compare health care funding systems.
Now, when population variation is actually controlled for we learn a few things. For instance, a general life expectancy statistic is pretty worthless in itself because it encompasses a lot of life cycle variation as we see in comparisons between Canadian and American males. American men have a greater risk of dying at younger ages than do Canadian men, which is why we see, at age 40, that Canadian men are expected to live for an additional two years or so, when compared against American men. However, by the age of 60 the life expectancy of Canadian men is only 1 year greater than American men. At age 80, the life expectancy of Canadian men is only a few months more than American men. All of this data is lost when you count on life expectancy from birth. The fact that the US has greater deaths from handguns than is seen in Canada, as well as a higher murder rate, is an issue that predominantly affects younger people and so this lowers the overall rate of life expectancy but it has nothing to do with how the medical care system is funded.
The better tests are how each system deals with cancer screenings, life expectancy after diagnosis, which systems are preferred by those in need of medical treatment, etc.
Sarah's outing of the Death Plan as 'evil' is what's really going to drive the morally-relativistic left off the deep end.
She not only is going to take on Obama, but she apparently is not afraid to call out Tiny Dancer (Rahm Emanuel). He will rue the day he meddled into her life.
Most people can see that there are problems with the insurance system. But the solution should not be to destroy the system.
The figure that gets bandied around about 45-47 million uninsured falls apart when people actually look into it. That figure includes something like 17 illegal immigranys. And no one can convince me that I should lose my coverage or pay a dime more for insurance for people who have no right to even be in this country.
When push comes to shove Americans will not be willing to face the same problems we routinely hear about the socialized systems, long waits, delays for specialists, denial of procedures.
Yogi,
I want to see Sarah call Rahm "Ballerina Boy". I would piss myself laughing.
wjshipley - exactly. Until something is done about malpractice doctors will continue to perform unnecessary testing to CYA themselves, Who can blame them? Krauthammer(sp) had a good article in the WaPo I think - that one one of his primary points.
Right on, Sarah, right on.
And the new rallying cry for the death bill is.....*drum roll*:
"HELL NO!!!
I'll be saying this at the next townhall. I'll have to make a cool sign....
Kudos to Michele Bachman as well. Now I can see why some Minnesota anklebiters filed an ethics complaint against her. She's cut from the same mold as Sarah.
You go Sarah!! Wow!! I love this woman.
I felt compelled to report Sarah Palin on the white house snitch site. Of course I reported that I agreed with her :)
Sarah is not afraid to take on Obama or Rhambo, she mentioned The Thumpin a while back. It is going to interesting to see what more she will say.
I am gonna head out and get into a Townhall and just say:
"NO DEATH PANEL!"
Sarah has given us our rallying cry.
connertown said...
Eeesh. Sorry, but to me, this does not appear to be a great statement by Palin.
What's with the "death panel" talk? That seems to be quite a stretch from anything I have heard.

"UPDATE: There are many passionate responses of differing stripes on my Facebook page." What does that mean?
===
I think it means people of differing stripes are leaving passionate responses to her statement on the facebook page.
I would imagine that the liberals are cursing her out.
I have several clients who are physicians; one is an OB/GYN. His malpractice insurance premiums are absolutely astronomical, along with all the CYA procedures they are forced to perform.
This is one area that definitely needs to be addressed.
Hey Redhead, seriously,
If Healthcare in Canada is so good, how come Canadians want to reform it. If its so good, why are people from Canada coming to the US for surgeries.
If its so good, why does it take 3 months to get an MRI. 6 months to get the surgery?
If its so damn good, How come Chris Dodd won't be going to Canada to get is prostate removed?
Answer: Because its not that good.
I just watched the video of Mrs. Bachmann's statement.
Wow.
It's worse than I thought.
I hope Mrs. Bachmann has some good lawyers, who are not on retainer to the DNC and ACORN.
Is Hot Air not working for you people?
Just watched Bachmann's speech. It was awesome. Why isn't Fox bringing these guests on to TV and put them on spotlight with their ditzy ideas?
Hoorah!!! Our Sarah is back! It's on now.
Everyone here does realize that redhead is Jeanne Devon.
Pointless to debate with especially when her facts are always wrong.
Palin: Obama's "Death Panel" Could Kill My Down Syndrome Baby
This is one of the featured articles now on Huffington Post with a pic of Sarah with Trig.
This will be all over the news by tomorrow and on Sunday Morning program. A great move by Sarah and so true.
So , it begins.
I wouldn't be surprised if Sarah consents to an interview or two. We'll see.
Similar to her party, Sarah Palin has said no to the plan offered by Obama, but has offered no alternative solution or plan of her own. She fits into the "party of no" better than she thinks.
Now - just think a little bit... you are not really serious about a "death panel".
There is no such thing in any part of this administration or any current or future legislation. If you think there is -- please show me where it is.
Do you really want to continue to support multi-million dollar annual "bonus" pay for the CEO's of the top 10 for-profit insurance companies (that is mostly from your increasing insurance premium dollars)?
You know as well as I do, that the primary goal of all for-profit insurance companies is (big surprise) PROFIT! Meaning ... denying you benefits any way that they can.
Do you understand that your Social Security check, Medicare coverage and Veterans Benefits are all USA government run programs?
Also you realize that going to these Town Hall meetings without real information and real questions about how to take our country back makes you sound like a drone and an instrument of the big corporations and the lobbyists from K street in Washington DC.
I really think that when WE THINK first and ask real questions in a civilized and educated manner we will actually be able to take back America and truly be a nation that all the world can look up to.
Wouldn't it be something if Sarah herself appears on one of the Sunday talk shows? Kill two birds with one stone, I'm thinking.
HuffPo picked this up already?
Look out, here comes the crapstorm.
I predict a cat3 turdicane.
Actually, malpractice costs a bit more in Canada. The average suit is 300,000 in Canada, while it is 298,000 in the U.S.
The number of suits per capita is about the same.
Doctors may pay less in Canada for malpractice insurance, but in some provinces the cost is part of the negotiation. Doctors here are paid on a per visit or per procedure basis, and all of this is negotiated with the provinces.
Sarah's death panel line is at the top of DRUDGE!
hey Kwaisi, when she is the President of the USA, she'll offer her plan, ok?
@Kwaisi
You have NO idea what it would be like for you to have to wait for 20 hours to see a doctor. You talk all good now, but you seriously have NO clue. Visit Canada and see what your future is like. God help you if you EVER get sick, with anything, I hope you are under the age of 50 otherwise your screwed. Our health care system is NOT perfect, but to put it all in the hands of the Government so that THEY decide who lives and who dies is WRONG. Do you have elderly parents, if they do and they get sick, guess where they go to, hospice care. You really want that for your parents. Read the bill, it says that the Government has the right to go into YOUR bank account to take out money needed for this health care package. Are you fine with that? if you don't believe me, READ THE DAMN BILL
Michele Bachmann is the "patriot" who said Barack Obama is anti-American on Hardball and then apologized profusely. She also fears the census. Healthcare Reform will get passed because as most people realize, our current system is broken and needs to be fixed. If there is no public option, that would be ashame but so be it. The vast majority of this country is stupid and fears the government. They love medicare and medicaid which is socialize government run medicine, but hates any other idea of government in healthcare.
Lakerfanalways - The vast majority of Canadians are happy with their healthcare system. Also, we spend a quarter of our healthcare costs on people who will die within three years. Death panel? People can't be this stupid can they?
Only a matter of time before Kwaisi has hijacked enough threads to warrant a ban as I have predicted for awhile now:)
Dr. Les:
Read Tom Daschle's book. You know, the original HHS nominee before his tax dodging came to light.
The government will decide when you have become too much of a depreciating asset to the "community", and you will not get an expensive life saving procedure because your use to the collective has already been spent.
Watch Mrs. Bachmann's speech on the House floor. it's right here on this post for you. She quotes the words of Obama's own White House health care advisers.
We are headed to a Federal Death Panel.
Yes.
Seriously.
In their own words.
I can't think of anything more serious right now.
Dang this woman is FEARLESS! You tell it like it is, Sarah!
And Michele Bachmann, I love ya too. $$$ on the way to your re-election campaign.
Sarah's courage has unleashed all these spectacular conservative women like Bachmann and Liz Cheney -- women who heretofore were marginalized and possibly afraid to stick a toe in the water lest they be called traitors to their own gender. Heck, even ordinary conservative women like me feel like we can speak up now. Sarah the Trailblazer is giving us all a voice. We can't afford not to support women like Sarah and Michelle and Liz. I do believe they are the only sort with any kind of stones in this whole party.
GO SARAH!!!
Kwaisi, one thing you'll find out one day is that the elderly are mostly concerned with one thing - staying alive.
Your party is screwing up royally. And yes, translating "End of life counseling" to "Death Panel" works just fine, thank you.
The "fear" that the right has of government in this situation is hypocritical at best. The same people who were for the Patriot Act and domestic spying are against good government improving healthcare, the economy and the environment. This is why young educated people are not conservatives. You are the same people that don't believe in evolution so I guess I am not too surprised.
"You are the same people that don't believe in evolution so I guess I am not too surprised."
Oh, that'll leave a mark.
Well, the Culture of Death is already alive and well as 90% of Downs Syndrom babies are aborted because they don't fit some people's idea of perfection.
Sarah has pointed out the evil nature of judging people based on utility, rather than humanity.
I say: Bring on the debate.
Sarah has thrown down the gauntlet. She sets herself up as the target but gives her supporters cover to push even more aggressively for what we know is right.
America is the land of the free, home of the brave.
No Death Panels!!!!!
Why is Kwaisi not banned?
The left is at war with us.
They will beat us physically if we let them. They will do ANYTHING to destroy us, and yet we let lunatics like KWAISI into our home base?
Taking the high road rarely works when your opponents are intent on your destruction. Getting into a discussion with a troll is pointless and only hinders OUR efforts. Ban the loser.
There is no such thing as "GOOD GOVERMNENT"
Take a pill
You know as well as I do, that the primary goal of all for-profit insurance companies is (big surprise) PROFIT! Meaning ... denying you benefits any way that they can.
Gee Dr Les - you do know that the goal of all for-profit entities in a capitalistic society IS to make a profit? You make it sound like there is something wrong with that.
Kwaisi:
You are calling the whole country stupid.
Can you be that stupid, that you cannot see the threat to freedom in this proposal?
By the way, Michele Bachmann IS a patriot, and she was right about Obama being Anti-American.
He does not like America as it was founded.
He thinks the Constitution is a fatally flawed document.
He said so himself.
Why do you think he is going around the world apologizing for this country constantly?
Why do you think he wants to "bring change" and "fundamentally transform America"?
It us because he does not like this country as the Founding Fathers intended it to be, a beacon of liberty to the world.
He thinks we are a big problem for the rest of the world.
If only we were more redistributive, more FAIR, punishing those who drive innovation and prosperity by stealing the fruits of their labor and redistributing it to those who do not earn it.
That, my friend, is completely un-American to the core.
If you cannot understand that, then it is YOU who are STUPID, IGNORANT of what America is all about.
By the way, you left something out of your DNC talking points, you should update it.
It's the Party of HELL NO!! :)
Newsflash: We're all going to die.
Newsfalsh: We already ration healthcare in our current system.
An excellent brief summary of the problem with a free market approach to health care from James Kwak:
I happen to think that a free market for insurance works pretty well in most circumstances (and I did co-found an insurance software company); for example, if you can afford the house, you can generally afford the insurance for the house. But it doesn’t work very well for health care, because many people are simply uninsurable under free market principles (expected health care costs exceed their income, let alone their ability to pay), and hence would be left to die. We think we have a private, for-profit insurance system today, but we can only avoid its disturbing implications by hedging it in with public backstops and regulations.
If you need a heart transplant and can't afford it, you get no heart. You guys always astound and amaze me with the talking points that you are fed and yet don't don't understand.
FOUR WORDS:
We are Ken Gladney.
FIVE WORDS:
We are Joe the plumber.
FOUR WORDS:
We are Sarah Palin.
The SEIU and the White House want to drown out the real details of the Healthcare bill. The 'end of life counseling' rationing of healthcare, eliminating "costs" (a/k/a OLD PEOPLE, and anyone else that actually tries to get healthcare).
Gird your loins everyone it could be like this for the next 3 1/2 years!!!
1-20-13, maybe the Obamanightmare will be over by then.
Is anyone thinking about going to D.C. on 9/12?
Similar to her party, Sarah Palin has said no to the plan offered by Obama, but has offered no alternative solution or plan of her own. She fits into the "party of no" better than she thinks.
Obama wants us to jump out of an airplane with a parachute pack filled with rocks. Sarah says no. You complain that her voice of dissent is insufficient in itself and that she must offer an alternative to a parachute pack filled with rocks. I disagree. Her rejection of a bad plan can stand by itself. Jumping out of a plane with a bag of rocks on your back is a bad idea.
Health care is a superior good. In economics speak, this means that as one's wealth increases one is happy to be spending more on a superior good. We see this very clearly in the housing market where people would buy larger houses as their wealth increased. It's not like the number of children they had increased in lockstep thus requiring them to buy more square footage. We also see superior good buying tendencies in home locations. People, as their wealth increases, move to better neighborhoods even if they're not necessarily increasing their home size.
The US is a wealthy society and its people want better health care. It's also a politically incorrect fact, but the US is also a diverse society, and diversity and social welfare spending move in opposing directions. Obama is asking people to sacrifice their own consumption of a superior good, excellent healthcare, in order to spread the wealth, on in this case, spread the healthcare, to everyone by way of rationing. This is a no-sell in the US.
Actually, the health care "crisis" is not really a "crisis" it's just a system in need of a tune-up, not a revolution. There are free-market reforms which can fix the rough edges while still keeping health care consumption as a superior good. All Sarah needs to do, when the right moment arises, is to advance solutions from this well of reasoning.
She's doing well in calling Obama on his socialist agenda.
Kwaisi, I'd like to take this time to peremptorally offer my condolences for your flunking out of law school. (That's pretty much a gimmee, considering your poor rhetorical skills.)
You may have a bright future as a paralegal; however, the jury is still out.
Uhhh our founding fathers were for government people. See Washington, Adams, Hamilton and other Federalists and what the ythought the role of government should be. I can understand how you all would miss that. This is the party that has spends 10 times as much on military and defense spending than it does on education.
Obama is anti-american yet Americans across racial and socioeconomic statii voted for him? Why? Let me guess. Those of us who are for education and acknowledge that while America is the greatest country in the world, we have made some mistakes.
Kwaisi, be careful of your statements.
I live in Canada, and i can tell you unequivocally that the vast majority of Canadians are NOT HAPPY with their health care system.
Where on earth did you get that information?
I can also tell you that what is in the bill in the U.S. right now is FAR WORSE than what we have in Canada.
How anyone could support this bill is beyond me. Its madness!
Sarah's choice of words were provocative for a reason. They can NOT deny that her words are true.
They will only be able to attack her or try and dismiss her but they can not deny her.
Anyone that has actually read the bill will know that Sarah is speaking the truth. Maybe she is a little dramatic about it but I believe that is by design.
It is bait for the liberals, just try and attack her, try and prove her words wrong. They will be sorry because she is right.
Kwaisi: "Newsflash: We're all going to die."
Did you figure that all out by yourself, or did you read it in a book?
Kwaisi ... I was once a young idealistic liberal who thought I knew better than everyone else. Then I wised up and started seeing that the institutions I saw as repressive (religion, marriage, traditional values) were actually quite liberating.
Conservatives aren't dumb, Kwaisi. They just have more common sense, which to a liberal is anathema.
There's a reason why the Hillbuzz boys call Obama "Dr. Utopia." He, like so many liberals, have an idealized view that government can solve all problems in our lives if we only give up this silly notion of self-sufficiency.
Conservatives know life is never perfect. That's why we welcome innocent life and cherish our seniors.
I think Jesus described my view of this life when he said "My kingdom is not of this world."
Even Jesus knew that perfection in this world is not possible. I wish the Annointed One would study up on the words of his predecessor. ;-)
Kwaisi , Obama is an anti-American, the MSM did it's best to cover that up . You know it.
No, no, no. She is not in the party of 'no', as the President likes to say. She is officially in the party of "HELL NO". Get it right. lol ;-)
In the meantime, the oh-not-so-great Uniter entertains us again:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dyY3Y9vxR0&feature=player_embedded
Kwaisi - ef your momma.
There you go again Kwaisi.
It is you who "do not understand".
Good government running health care will destroy the freedoms we currently enjoy.
They will be able to tell you what you can eat, or no coverage for you.
They tell you what you can drink, or no coverage for you.
They tell you where to go on vacation, and what you can do when you get there, and how you get there, or no coverage for you.
It goes on and on and on.
Fraud will explode. Waste will explode.
The primary concern will cease to be the patient, and will be budgets and bureaucratic red tape.
Political motivations will inevitably creep in to anything run by politicians and their political appointees.
My state has already tried this, and it was a huge disaster that had to be dismantled by a Democrat Governor who had experience in the health industry running a big urban hospital.
Don't lecture us on who understands America, because you clearly do not, and some of us may get a little annoyed.
To: RedHead Troll @5:57
Before you start blogging with the grownups, maybe you should get an education, read a book, or have a real job for a while.
You lament about paying $4 for an aspirin at the hospital. Let me enlighten you as to what that markup is really made to cover. By the way, I worked in Healthcare for 35+ years so pay attention. In my 35+ years in Healthcare, I have held a multitude of positions most in either a professional or managerial capacity. I have been a Nurse, Microbiologist, Ward Clerk (in college), Infection Control Practitioner, Safety Officer, Employee Health Director, JCAHO Coordinator, Quality Improvement Manager, and Risk Manager.
In healthcare, there are vast amounts of operating costs that cannot be billed to the patient like the actual cost of drugs, tests and procedures. These include but are not limited to the enormous salary costs to staff a hospital with college graduates (often with advanced degrees) for 7days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year (including all holidays). What other industry or business has this payroll overhead that cannot be charged to the patient or to insurance companies? Add to that the cost of non-direct patient care personnel that are required to manage the patient records, ensure that the hospital meets the hundreds of government and industry regulations that are required from federal and state healthcare laws, from Medicare laws, from Medicaid laws, from FDA regulations, from EPA regulations, from OSHA regulations, etc, etc, etc ...... Add to this all the people who are hired to reduce the risk of potential lawsuits (no matter how trivial) or are required to defend the hospital and staff from such lawsuits. Add to this further $$$ required to staff hospitals with an education department to educate employees on a continual basis on new technology, on new regulations imposed by the hundreds of regulatory agencies, on the new policies and practices that are written each time there is a new law, new piece of equipment, new procedure, new drug or a new law suit that identifies potential liability. I could go on for hours listing the unreimbursed costs of healthcare. The only option that hospitals have in being able to operate when more and more of the costs of healthcare cannot be directly charged to the customers is to do mark-ups on those items that they can charge for like aspirins.
Now there is a remedy to lowering the cost of healthcare -- tort reform and limited government regulations.
Can you imagine what the increase in costs will be if all healthcare becomes government run? I would hazard to guess that cost of meeting government regulations will go up by 2X...3X...4X...5X..............
Free market Healthcare = Quality but not cheap
Government Run Healtcare = No quality, no advances, increased costs, increased regulation, rationing(including death panels), long lines, fewer people willing to spend years in college to go to work in a low paying government job that fails to help people. Disaster
If the only option for a career had been Government Run Healthcare 35 years ago, I would have chosen a different profession. Maybe I would have been a politician. The salary potential is a lot better especially in the pay-to-play Obama Administration.
I was always taught this piece of wisdom:
If you aren't a socialist and want to save the world in your college years, you have no heart.
If you are still a socialist by the time you reach your 40's, you have no brain and do not understand how to change the world.
I'm with jwshipley.
One of the major costs is tort reform. Lets start by fixing that.
Besides, I trust Sarah can fix the healthcare mess. I have heard her say in other contexts: 'efficiencies can be found' She has a thrifty mind, and I trust her stuardship
Great article by our Sarah!
Alexonian - Love and respect your ability to engage in true dialogue. I agree with what you are saying, but I feel like the vast majority of the people in this forum would not if they understood it. What you are calling for is the creation of an aristocacy within the country. A further division of the haves and have nots. It's the basis of Reaganomics in which the top 10 percent continued to get richer and the rest of the country did not receive the benefits of anything that "trickled down"
EdFab - Graduated from Penn with a fair but not great 3.2 gpa. I partied a ton in college though. I will be much more focused in law school for we are living in great times politically and socially. I would be shocked with anything less than a 3.5. Hopefully that will get me cum laude status and launch my political career. Then I can gain the presidency and have people complain because I didn't release my transcript or birth certificate.

Really? I think it's time to send this douche to the playground with Jesse.

Fun Fact #1- Sarah's father, Chuck, is an agnostic science teacher and boasts a large collection of fossils.
Fun Fact #2- Ezekiel Emanuel is a eugenicist.
I was searching for the Britist Health Ministry and found this article:
LONDON (AFP) — About 5,000 injured British troops are not able to join military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan because they are on the British health service's waiting lists for treatment, a newspaper reported. Citing military doctors, The Daily Telegraph newspaper reported that one particular military hospital -- the Royal Hospital Haslar -- on the southern English coast was being under-used, and a consultant physician there, Peter Golding, said he was being sent soldiers referred from as far as Scotland and Germany because their local hospitals "could not cope".
A spokeswoman for the defence ministry, while declining to comment on the number quoted by the Telegraph report, told AFP that it was "committed to ensuring our personnel receive the best possible healthcare..
I, being to old, would not recieve false-prez. Obey-me health care...
On the other hand, if I did, why would I want to wait...
Kawsi: They are going to cut Medicare back so much the elderly that have it as a major part of their medical care now will not have the funds to pay for medical care, therefore, the care for the elderly will be very limited care and/or rationed. The has to happen because with the baby boomers medicare cannot take care of them because it is broke now.
The bill has a requirement for a 3 panel government people to establish what care will be available and who will get that care. Now believe it or not...it is true.
Now you tell me, how do you add all these people to a government program and reduce costs??? TAXES OR RATIONED CARE...IS THE ONLY ANSWER. MEDICARE, SS, MEDICID ARE BROKE OR NEAR BROKE NOW.
Kwaisi, please do us all a favor and move to Great Britain. Will you do whatever Obama says, even if its something you know in your heart is right, or are you too far gone in the Obama Kool Aid to see the forest through the damn trees. You sir, are nothing more then a drone for the media. I bet you voted for him because the media told you to. If McCain were President, and he wanted this SAME bill to pass, you would probably be against it
Lee - The vast majority of Canadians are happy with their healthcare.

Redhead sez:
One other thing they have over us is that they can freely say that no one in thier countries with thier government run healthcare has ever gone bankrupt or lost thier homes because of medical bills

What a load of crap Red. My Canadian Aunt had to acquire a second mortgage on her house...why....because the Ontario Medical System kept denying, then kept delaying, her heart valve replacement. Her quality of life faded, she became a shut in, then she slowly degraded in her health. She had to get her valve operation in Detroit!
The bank owns the house now and it's not likely she'll ever pay it off (she's 70). So much for her estate and the hopes of willing it to her son.
I also know of a family friend in Vancouver, BC in a similar situation. He was forced to sell off his car and go to Seattle for cataract surgery. He was legally blind for 9 months and got fed up wating for a simple lens replacement proceedure (was told he would have to wait another 6 months). For God's sake...to wait 15 months....FOR CATARAC SURGERY!!! He's only 60 years old and has a lot of life in him (and a small business to run which needs to be rebuilt due to the delays in surgery).
Red, if this is so good, why has Congress EXEMPTED ITSELF???? HMMMMM?
Laker -
If McCain did even half the crap Obama has done or said he would be called a dictator and fascist leader by the left and right.
Oh the irony......
know in your heart is WRONG..sorry my bad
Toki - You can't argue that a much higher percentage of conservatives don't believe in evolution than liberals. I mean come on.
Redhead, you're a moron of the highest order.
When WHO calculates life expectancy they include ALL deaths -- which, in this country, includes thousands of traffic accidents, homicides, soldiers killed in battle. You know, UN-natural causes of death. If you take those out of the equation, the United States does quite well. For instance, there are a lot more people surviving cancer in this country than there are anywhere else. Do we have more deaths due to heart disease and stroke? Sure we do. But that's a lifestyle issue, not a health care issue. Quit eating Ding Dongs and get your fat lazy @ss off the sofa -- problem solved. As Gov. Palin herself said, the best person to ensure your health and wellness and longevity is YOU. It's called personal responsibility. Look into it.
And another thing. Those Canadians who like their socialized healthcare probably haven't faced a seious illness yet. If you're young and healthy, it's great, but once you're old and get sick, it's a nightmare.
Kwaisi,
Go visit Canada and ASK people if they are happy. If Canadians are SO damn happy with their health care, HOW COME THEY ARE COMING HERE TO GET TREATMENT. Why aren't we going to Canada to get treatment if it is so great.
Kwaisi - ef your daddy.
Kwaisi,
The term 'death panel' in fact describes perfectly what is in the bill.
A panel at the federal level will decide to kill you to save money as part of a wasteful government system.
You can try to sugarcoat it all you want, but it is IN the bill.
You cannot hide from it or YOUR statist instincts despite recent and older history that clearly proves a government system does not work effectively.
