Daily Intel: Why We Doubt Page Six’s Sarah Palin Story

Daily Intel blog (which is generally rather left-leaning) on the New York Post's piece today:

We're not experts on the machinations of the paid-speaking industry, but this story is suspicious for a few reasons:

1. The source is openly hostile to Palin, belittling her in almost every quote, so his/her intentions seem fairly suspect. Calling Palin a "blithering idiot" and saying the only people who'd want to hear her speak are "interested in moose hunting" doesn't really add credibility to your claims.

2. Politico reported about a month ago that Palin had received over 1,070 speaking invitations, which is a lot.

3. As strange, frustrating, and bewildering as it may seem, it's an indisputable fact that many people adore Sarah Palin.

There they go again with the name calling.

Excellent.

Very nice stuff from the elite crowd.

The 3 hallmarks of the campaign to destroy Sarah Palin:

1) ridicule

2)draining the swamp

3)misleading info (polls)

Sheya September 30, 2009 12:51 PM

I wasn’t going to comment on this in the open thread as it’s so ridicules and obvious that the source is out to bash Palin. The people at the Daily Intel read my mind.

Though I am surprised at the NY Post for publishing the unreliable story in the first place. The NY Post is usually Palin friendly, well more than others anyway.

toughluck September 30, 2009 12:52 PM

From the hit piece:
"Lynn Vincent, Palin's collaborator, wrote the book so fast, publication has been moved up from the spring to Nov. 17"

He, he.. that actually made me chuckle. I have read her facebook posts and they are not posts, they are waterfalls of words, they are huge. Sarah obviously has NO problem writing in large amounts.

Here is another gem:
"The big lecture buyers in the US are paralyzed with fear about booking her, basically because they think she is a blithering idiot."

Ha, ha, ha!!!
Read the Hongkong speech and compare it to Obama's at the UN. Even Obama's buddy, Sarkozy was snickering after, saying Obama was naive with his dreams of unilateral nuclear disarmament and not getting something in return for cancelling the missile defense shield in Poland. Now who is the blithering idiot?

ladydawnelle September 30, 2009 1:03 PM

oh jez they're just so astute it SHOCKS me! DOH! "gee Brentley it appears there are more heathens & bible thumpers in love with her than we thought" DOH!

tsk

GO SARAH!

Whitney The Pipsqueak September 30, 2009 1:04 PM

Again, it is quite apparent even before the Obamacare is instituted (God forbid), that treatment for PDS is already being rationed.

Also, while the Daily Intel does, in a back-handed way defend Gov. Palin, they only do so so that they can choose their own set of adjectives in reference to her. While the NY Post piece calls her a "blithering idiot", the Daily Intel deems the interest in Gov. Palin "strange, frustrating, and bewildering".

The media have a book of "Sarah Palin mad libs" that they use as a template for the majority of the articles in reference to her. At least one sentence per article must be as follows:

"Sarah Palin is a (insert derogatory adjective) (insert snarky, ill-intentioned noun)."

ladydawnelle September 30, 2009 1:09 PM

Whitney

the really disappointing thing about it is those people are NOT being told to trash Sarah. They are doing it all on their OWN. Petty & MOST Hypocritical!

No talking points need be given just an OK to feel FREE to diss her at your leisure. The more you do it the BETTER your star quality becomes!

SICK

johnfromcanada September 30, 2009 1:19 PM

One thing is clear - if this is what the people who book the lecture circuit really think, then they are the idiots. The folk in Hong Kong are MUCH brighter.

I dont get this name calling BS. I don't know what has happened to the Democratic party, but they have turned into the party of nasty, vile, smearing a holes. Really sad to see. They call her names because they are scared to death that she will throw Obama's lying Communist ass out of office, that is the bottom line, if they thought otherwise they would have left her alone a long time ago. Oh one more thing, if Sarah is an idiot, well, I wish I was half an "idiot" as she is because I think she is absolutely BRILLIANT

johnfromcanada September 30, 2009 1:29 PM

From the left - "We don't ban books, we just ban speakers (especially those we don't agree with)."

And besides, we wouldn't want to offend any well-heeled liberal subscribers, would we?

Dan C September 30, 2009 1:32 PM

Just another LIE from the media. Yeah, no one wants to hear her yet she has 1000+ speaking invitations LOL.

By the way, in 24 hours she has the #1 non fiction book at both barnes and noble and amazon.

At barnes, it is #1 overall. THIS IS WITH NO ADVERTISING OR PROMOTIONS!

Larry Sheldon September 30, 2009 1:36 PM

I would add at the bottom of the box "...many people adore Sarah Palin for very goot and palpable reasons.

gamsbo September 30, 2009 1:39 PM

it seem they know if they use her name people will read it...they know she will be able to make as many paid speech as she wants....do you really think that a major company would have signed her if they were not going to make money on her....they just needed something to write ....

hrh September 30, 2009 1:43 PM

Here ya' go, "kids." As the writer of this yahoo story refers to readers:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ynews/ynews_ts933;_ylt=AtdaSfyY2yl2YMAqeM4LztzmWMcF

Guess what? It's a story about ghostwriters - with Sarah Palin's name in the title.

The story itself is OK in that it gets into both Clintons' poorly credited ghost writers, but of course, has to get in the Ted Kennedy's was mostly written by him.

But you know that "Sarah Palin" and "ghost writer" are the key words driving this story and its headline.

Positively transparent in their motives. Sigh.

ladydawnelle September 30, 2009 1:44 PM

I just have to say I can't stop feeling bewildered every time I think of all the insults being thrown at Sarah.

I admit I am NOT particularly proud of the names I called GW and Chainsaw um Cheney for 8 yrs but at the very least I had a LIST of TRUE things that made me mad. It took 8 yrs to gather that list.

SARAH was adored in Alaska and loved on the campaign trail. NO lies ever exposed that were not proven false yet the "professionals" still keep calling her names! IT's just AMAZING!

the HYPOCRISY is just so THICK it's hard to breath sometimes!

Do you think Sarah will do a book tour around the country in support of the book? Hope so. She won't have to. I'd love the chance to see her in person & tell her I love her.

rae4palin September 30, 2009 2:09 PM

hrh September 30, 2009 2:09 PM

OT: Here's some good news. I'm working on payroll inserts, which are motivational booklets that we sell to businesses to put in employees' paychecks.

I use quotes in these inserts and I was searching for one on opinions. Look what showed up on page 2 of the Quote of the Day site?

http://www.qotd.org/search/search.html?author=&keywords=opinion&page=2

"But here's a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion, I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this country. Americans expect us to go to Washington for the right reasons, and not just to mingle with the right people. - Sarah Palin"

wisetrog September 30, 2009 2:10 PM

TangledThorns, just think Romney wing of GOP is as afraid of her as the Dems. They are going to stop her advancing from even one step.

hrh September 30, 2009 2:10 PM

BTW, Rush Limbaugh is now at the top of hour 3 quoting the NY Post story - as further proof that the media are telling us who they fear ... Tune in now!!

hrh September 30, 2009 2:12 PM

Now Rush is comparing Palin admitting her co-writer - Lynn's a co-writer not a ghost writer, Rush - to Obama's not acknowledging his probable co-writer.

Now he says that Hong Kong speech was a gangbuster from all he's heard ...

Now quoting Andrew Sullivan ...

hrh September 30, 2009 2:13 PM

And meanwhile Rush says we're being told how intelligent Barack Obama is.

And how your vocabulary can mask your intelligence. Obama is one of the intelligent stupid people in the country.

hrh September 30, 2009 2:15 PM

Now mentioning American Thinker's articles about Bill Ayers writing BO's books ...

hrh September 30, 2009 2:16 PM

BO is a gifted liar. Like all community agitators are, Limbaugh says.

Lakerfanalways September 30, 2009 2:19 PM

I am sick and tired of this "Oh she did not write this book" BS. She has kept journals for years, which means, this book was already 75 percent written already, she just had to add some little stuff here and there. The book was basically already written. I hate how people say she did not write it and how she has a ghostwriter, WHO THE HELL CARES! Every author has a ghostwriter, to make sure there are no grammatical errors, etc. The media put into some people's heads that she is stupid and no matter what she does and what she says, that perception will never go away with some people. Who cares, her book is selling like hotcakes, I called Barnes and Noble, asking about her book, they said they have never seen anything like it, the book will sell out before its even released. Never seen a book jump to #1 after being on their site for ONE day. SUCK ON THAT LIBS!!

rae4palin September 30, 2009 2:22 PM

hrh -- Wow. Sarah Palin in Quote Of The Day list. Awesome.
BTW, I like your blog.

narciso September 30, 2009 2:22 PM

It's kind of infuriating, that this guard is dredged up,but there is a strategy that we who have come to know her, realize about her. She chose Evansville and Auburn and Long Island, because they were causes close to her

Shmendrick September 30, 2009 2:22 PM

This particular idiot, Victoria Gotti, is the daughter of NY mafia boss John Gotti. She's not too bright, like her father, and is apparently a kool aid drinker of the Big Zero flavor. I'm surprised the NY Post let her publish this blatant trash. The nonsense that no one would want to have Sarah speak is so ludicrous it show just how far out in la la land this dummy is.

hrh September 30, 2009 2:24 PM

Rush just touted her book as #1 on B&N beating Brown and Alboum seven weeks out from being released. He's thrilled and wants the liberal book publishing industry to tear its hair out or jump off a cliff, can't remember which.

He wants it to sell 5 million copies!

Yogi41 September 30, 2009 2:25 PM

Rush has used 2 segments now to promote Sarah's book. He announced she's #1 at B&N and #3 at Amazon (it's really #2). He wants her to sell 5 million or more so that the left will start jumping off of bridges. :)

Yogi41 September 30, 2009 2:30 PM

Wow, if anyone is listening to Rush, there's a mom on there right now who is P.O.'d. Rush is just letting her vent, and she is moving me to tears. She is passionate and furious at everyone in D.C. - Dems and Repubs and especially the media.

She feels helpless, wants to know what she can do. She says she has no one who will listen to her, except Fox and Rush.

She is asking Rush what she can do now; she said "...besides vote for Sarah Palin, which I am going to do, but I need to know what I can do right now to stop this."

She is speaking from the heart, and it's heart-breaking.

rae4palin September 30, 2009 2:31 PM

Yogi41 - Wow! Can't wait to hear Rush's response after the break.

Dan C September 30, 2009 2:32 PM

Yogi, That was amazing. I have never heard Rush let someone go on for that long.

rae4palin September 30, 2009 2:33 PM

Yogi41 September 30, 2009 2:34 PM

Moms are going to be Sarah's ace in the hole. I realize that 1994 was the "Year of the Angry White Male"; well, 2010 and 2012 is going to be the "Year of the Angry Mom."

Yogi41 September 30, 2009 2:37 PM

She just asked Rush to pick up the phone, call Sarah Palin, and ask her to run with him. She wants Sarah and Rush to run on the same ticket. LOL!

Whitney The Pipsqueak September 30, 2009 2:37 PM

I think we all need some cheering up! Anytime one of these hit pieces come out, I turn to our dear friend, Margaret Thatcher:

"I always cheer up immensely if an attack is particularly wounding because I think, well, if they attack one personally, it means they have not a single political argument left. "

I think Gov. Palin has a similar mentality.

DryBones September 30, 2009 2:39 PM

That lady on Rush is amazing. She's absolutely right....we need to do something NOW. I had chills listening to her emotion.

Rush is right....she just did what she needed to do. Speak up, get the word out.

She is not alone. The country is waking up....and Sarah Palin will be leading us to take this country back.

God Bless this lady. God bless Rush. And God bless Sarah.

Victoria Gotti wrote that?? Seriously? Well, it is a hit piece.

People here better get ready for a none stop stream of this crap. Upside is they know she's The One. Downside is it's tough on the stomach lining and I don't have a Heavy Bag at the office (yet).

Remember all the hit pieces before the Hong Kong speech? These people are blithering idiots and are beyond repair. Nothing they say or do can stop Gov. Palin from doing what she wants to do because she knows she has an army of supporters.

Yogi41 September 30, 2009 2:45 PM

Rush and this lady are still talking...Rush told her that we, conservatives, have to take back our own party and start electing conservatives.

He said it's good enough to vote against the Dems in 2010, but in 2012, we have to vote FOR someone and that someone has to be a conservative.

Lipstick September 30, 2009 2:55 PM

Well, this is a sad day. The MSM has won, I found a telling series of photos that proves Sarah Palin is destroyed.

She was strong, but this last hit of no one wanting her to speak at their dinner and no one being interested in her up coming book was one right through her heart.

This series of photos shows Sarah riding in her Jetta crying and laughing. The next photo shows her crying and laughing in the parking lot of her bank. The next photo shows her IN her bank at the teller window and she is still crying and laughing.

Yes it would appear Sarah is so hurt that she is crying and laughing all the way to the bank.

Trolls shouldn't show up here unless they have really good material. That's why Sandra is actually tolerated.

Palin has about 1,000 invitations out there. Methinks she should go out and start doing candidate speeches on the chicken circuit. The lecture stuff will follow in its course. If you're a newsmaker, people will pay to hear from you, especially if you're a 2012 contender.

This Page Six piece is bollocks, though, especially after her triumph in Hong Kong.

PEC September 30, 2009 3:05 PM

Wolf Paw - Adrienne. Somebody I have communicated with on these blogs and via E-Mail. Do you actually know those people? If so give their names and exactly what they said. I also had a student that her niece is Willow's best friend. Same thing that Sarah is extremly nice and smart. So give me a name and a quote of the Republican person with her that said that. And no only in liberal land is anonymous a valid name.

narciso September 30, 2009 3:06 PM

Exactly Section, they always bring the j.v. team, there's always the problem of supply and demand, there's only one of her, although
parts of the HK speech would certainly fit with a lecture given

Whitney The Pipsqueak September 30, 2009 3:10 PM

Another thought about the Daily Intel piece--it just goes to show again how journalism is officially dead. The Daily Intel chooses to criticize how another "news"paper covers a story only so they can provide their own spin and additional set of adjectives to misapply. No matter how you slice it, it is journalistic laziness.

Bill in Baltimore September 30, 2009 3:10 PM

remember, it's not about Sarah Palin.

it's about taking back our country. And Sarah is apparently willing to be our leader.

There's a tangible difference with Sarah than with other leaders, and it's been said before, but

Sarah IS us.

yes, she speaks for us.

but really, it's kind of like your sister, who happens to be the most amazing combination EVAH of smarts, good looks, and common sense, walked on to the national stage, and now they aren't only attacking her, they are ATTACKING US.

and that ain't sittin' to well around the kitchen table . . .

PLEASE keep attacking and under-estimating Sarah.

It'll make calling her "Madame President" on Jan 20,2013 that much sweeter!

Greg September 30, 2009 3:13 PM

It's not surprising that we see stuff like this come out right after the announcement about her book. All the left has is name-calling, Hank and the other trolls are fine examples of that. Come 2012 they'll be still flapping their yaps recycling the same old crap from 2008 to avoid having to defend inflation, debt, lingering unemployment, and a laundry list of foreign policy bungles. At the rate it's going, just about anyone will be able to kick 0bama's ass up around his neck come 2012.

This country is so messed up. The government is F***ed up. And people want to destroy someone who has actually had the AUDACITY to put crooked politicians in jail. She exposed the sludge of Alaskan politics, the shady backroom deals, and corporate-government incest.

Hanky, why do you defend sludge and attack virtue?

Governor Palin is steadily showing the country who she really is. Those on the far left can bitch and moan, take pot-shots at her all they want.

The conservative/libertarian right will be a massive, united force in the 2012 elections. They will get their first taste in 2010....but their real downfall will happen in 2012, when President-elect Palin blows wipes out Obama and all of his socialist cronies.

No third party...we are taking back the Republican Party.....starting now.

Beck and Hannity need to play that call from Susan that was on Rush today in its ENTIRETY on their show today.

Sarah,Rush and Beck have done a unbelievable job of getting the message out, but I have NEVER heard anybody lay the case out as perfectly as Susan did.

The 3 million viewers of Beck and Rush need to hear it.

Also it would be nice to hear Greta ply it as well, just in case any late night viewers had not heard it yet.

Of course it would be nice to have BOR play it also, but I seriously doubt he will. He seems to have gone over to the dark side trying to get a interview from the Messiah.

And the MSM. Yeah right. They would NEVER play it.

It needs to go viral online, and it needs to be played on FOX all night.

Maverick007 September 30, 2009 3:59 PM

This will be my one and only comment regarding Hank.

Sometimes I would read what trolls say just to get a laugh at how far their stupidity actually goes.

But when trolls start talking about their desire to commit child molestation like Hank did, than I will stop reading what they say entirely.

Also Hank better hope nobody reports him to the authorities. Last time I checked child molestation was illegal, and Hank expressing his desire to be a sexual predator seems like it might be something that the police might be interested in.

PEC September 30, 2009 4:04 PM

maverick007 - I was thinking the same thing and once that is discovered FBI (this crosses State Borders) can bring full weight and force to bring this pedophile child molester down.
One of the reason Letterman quickly went from tough guy to apologizing quickly was a lawyer (GVS) had spotted what he did was criminal and he knew he better back up the I am big and bad bus.

KentonAK September 30, 2009 4:05 PM

Hank= Proud Member of 'SPFO'.
(Sexual Predators For Obama)

PEC September 30, 2009 4:07 PM

maverick007 - I was thinking the same thing. Plus this crosses State borders so Hank will have to face the full weight and force of the FBI.

One of the reasons Leterman quickly went from tough guy to apologizing was when a lawyer (Greta) noticed what he did could be criminal. He backed up the Bad Boy bus and apologized like a scalded dog then.

PEC September 30, 2009 4:09 PM

You the Hollywood types are rallying around Polanski. I guess they are all members of the SPFO club too.

RINO-Hunter September 30, 2009 4:10 PM

I think somebody might have been sockpuppeting the trolls. The whole "getting beat up at the Hannah Montana/Jonas Brothers concert" is a clue.

Has anyone read this one yet from the AP?

"Palin already a Bestseller"
http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5jlxDCO3o2Lipkwnit2WjvF0TCa5gD9B1QSC80

JohnDoeAt30Below September 30, 2009 4:23 PM

WSJ:

Still two months before its Nov. 17 release, Sarah Palin’s autobiography “Going Rogue: An American Life” has already hit the No. 2 spot on Amazon.com’s bestseller list. She’s sandwiched between Dan Brown’s “The Lost Symbol” in the #1 slot, but ahead of Glenn Beck’s “Arguing with Idiots: How to Stop Small Minds and Big Government.”

Palin is also taking the top slot on Barnes & Noble’s bestseller list, ahead of Mitch Albom’s “Have a Little Faith.”

The former Alaska governor’s 400-page book was completed just four months after she inked the book deal with HarperCollins, and has an initial 1.5 million print run—the same number given to “True Compass,” the autobiography of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts. HarperCollins is a unit of News Corp. as is Dow Jones & Co., publisher of The Wall Street Journal.

Nancy September 30, 2009 4:24 PM

It must be hard for the trolls to live in Sarah Palin America.

JohnDoeAt30Below September 30, 2009 4:24 PM

WSJ:

Sarah Palin may no longer be governor of Alaska, but she's certainly destined to become a best-selling author. HarperCollins, her publisher, has announced the print-run of her memoir will be a staggering 1.5 million copies -- equal to the print-run of Senator Ted Kennedy's posthumous autobiography published this month. Publishing sources tell me that such a giant run is only ordered up when there is clear evidence from booksellers and surveys of massive interest in a book.

The book, which will be published on November 17, was a crash project. Ms. Palin actually moved temporarily to San Diego after she resigned the governorship in July so she could be close to her collaborator, Lynn Vincent. I bumped into Ms. Vincent, a former editor at the Christian-oriented World magazine, in New York a few weeks ago, where she had parked herself in a hotel close to the offices of HarperCollins while working on the book's final edits.

Ms. Vincent didn't reveal any details about the book, but did acknowledge it will describe Ms. Palin's frustration over her treatment by the staffers she inherited from the McCain campaign after her surprise pick as the GOP vice presidential nominee last year. Ms. Palin was booked on grueling interviews with hostile reporters while talk-show hosts such as Glenn Beck couldn't even get through to her aides. Mr. Beck tells me he was stunned when he picked up the phone one day just before the election to discover Sarah Palin was on the other end of the line. "She explained that she had been blocked from reaching her audience, so she was now 'going rogue' and booking her own interviews," Mr. Beck told me. "I was thrilled she had burst out of the cage they'd built for her and we were finally talking."

That incident was the only time Ms. Palin declared her independence from her keepers, and it's fitting that the title of her upcoming book will be "Going Rogue: An American Life."

PEC-
about re: bell rings.
When I said that I'm under 18, I meant it. I'm still in high school, and today I was in the computer lab finishing a paper for Adv. Comp A. I had a little extra time on my hands so I went and checked out the site. And the bell was about to ring 2 minutes later. I have to walk to Plymouth HS then so I had to book it.

A huge thank you to the editors today. You're lightning quick at ridding this page of the trolls.

Whitney The Pipsqueak September 30, 2009 4:30 PM

I have a feeling that very soon the term, "going rogue", will be synonymous with "becoming a best seller".

(Title of book) went rogue this week reaching the top of the NYT bestsellers.

Mia September 30, 2009 4:34 PM

Hey Johnney Mac Staffers!!!
BUSTED!!!!...hehehe...

Bill in Baltimore September 30, 2009 4:37 PM

Mia, he he, yes on McShame staffers

Whitney, others: exactly what does it mean to be on the "New York Times Bestseller list" ?

Jane Austen September 30, 2009 4:37 PM

Mia-
LOL! They are so dead to her. Ooh...they're gonna get it!

McCain staffers: "Oh no, oh no! We shouldn't have told (insert MSM station) about (insert pathetic lie). Oops, I crapped!"

PEC September 30, 2009 4:39 PM

Jane - I knew you were under 18. That is why you are still a Barbarian Babette. Good news is you will be eligible to vote in 2012.

PEC September 30, 2009 4:42 PM

jane - I think you will be a barbarian babe one day, and with your knowledge will be a future leader in the US.

KentonAK September 30, 2009 4:42 PM

Savor this my dear pathetic trolls:

Sarah's already a BEST-SELLING AUTHOR with her book "Going Rogue" selling out its 1st printing of 1.5 million books nearly 2 MONTHS before its on book shelves.

"La Vengeance est un plat qui se mange."

Since stupid trolls don't speak French I'll translate:
"Revenge Is A Dish Best Served Cold."

Whitney The Pipsqueak September 30, 2009 4:44 PM

Bill,
Even though the NYT is rather liberal, I understand that it is sort of the "gold standard" of book sales rankings, akin to Billboard for music sales.

If I am wrong on this, someone please correct me.

Mia September 30, 2009 4:44 PM

Bill and Jane...YEP!...BIG TIME!!! ROTFLMAO...

Jane Austen September 30, 2009 4:45 PM

PEC-
So I do I become a Barbarian Babe when I turn 18? Or 21?
-Jane

Bill in Baltimore September 30, 2009 4:49 PM

Whitney,

it sounds impressive, but don't the NYT Bestseller simply get their data from someone else ? or is is subjective, ha ha

PEC September 30, 2009 4:49 PM

jane - That is up to Charter. Just keep in mind that Whitney is 26 and already has a Masters and we debated her being a Barbarian Babe or babette.

Beehive September 30, 2009 4:50 PM

Did anyone tape Rush today? It sounds like I missed a good one.

Rosie September 30, 2009 4:51 PM

Bermuda Bob September 30, 2009 4:53 PM

Newbie here. I've been following C4P for a couple of months now and have wanted to comment. Reading the articles and the blogs are the most refreshing part of my day. Keep up the good work! It *is* appreciated.

Whitney The Pipsqueak September 30, 2009 4:54 PM

Sarah Palin's book hits #1 on Amazon and Barnes and Noble's website.

The next headline:

"Sarah Palin kills trees for her own profit"

Sapwolf September 30, 2009 4:55 PM

OT:

Sarah's book is #1 on Amazon.

Jane Austen September 30, 2009 4:56 PM

PEC- Thanks. Either way I'll be a Barbarian Babe sooner or later! :) Right now I'm just content with Barbarian Babette.

I do plan to go into politics, and at the current moment I have an A in my PES class, which I need to keep up all year!
Oh, that remind me:

Welcome to awesome chaos! Well, it is when The Barbarian Babes are here. As you know, I'm Jane, and the youngest poster here (AKReport?). I spent FIVE months reading comments on this site before commenting. These people almost feel like a second family, yet I don't even know them. Have fun!

Here's the Youtube clip from Susan in Glendale; the caller on Rush today. She's a conservative in CA who is at a breaking point, and you can hear it in her voice. Oh yeah, she's a Sarah Palin supporter, too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Bsb2l-C7MM

Sapwolf September 30, 2009 5:00 PM

Jane,

If you really are going to get into politics,

make sure there is nothing out there that can come up from your past that could be embarrassing.

Seriously.

Also, be honest and if you make a mistake, be sincerely sorry about it and ask for forgiveness.

The American people will forgive many sins if they believe you are sincere.

Lakerfanalways September 30, 2009 5:01 PM

Told you all Sarah's book would be a HUGE hit. It's already sold out(From what I have been told from barnes and noble) and its already number ONE after being on both sites for ONE day. TAKE THAT LIBS!! I predicted before yesterday her book would sell out the second it hits the bookstore web sites(even in pre release) by the rate this book is going, it's gonna sell 10 million copies before it's even officially released. Also, mods, Thank you for enabling the comment section, pre approving everything BEFORE it's posted here. That is the best idea, that way we won't have anymore of these idiot trolls trying to ruin the site. I commend you for doing this!

Recovering Democrat September 30, 2009 5:01 PM

Mark Levin has complained before about the NY Times bestseller list not being entirely on the up and up. Apparently, they cook the books whenever they can get away with it -- unless the conservative author has sold so many books that they can't try to fudge the numbers.

Bermuda Bob September 30, 2009 5:03 PM

Bill,

I'm just south of you, in Alexandria, Va. While I have never been to Alaska, I have been in -20 weather before. And yes, it is cold!

Jane Austen September 30, 2009 5:03 PM

Bermuda Bob September 30, 2009 5:06 PM

Bermuda Bob September 30, 2009 5:21 PM

Bill - McDonnell is ahead by nine as of today (Rasmussen)

KentonAK - Thanks! Glad to be here!

Does anyone have Part 2 of Susan's video? Rush just let her speak her piece in Part 1.

Bermuda Bob September 30, 2009 5:24 PM

Nancy - Thank you (and thanks for your humor. Laughter is good medicine).

Larry Sheldon September 30, 2009 5:25 PM

Bob, don't let them scam you.

Alaska is delightful a good lot of the year. (Does Southeast ever get bitterly cold?)

We have driven as far north as we were allowed to at the time (Desperation Creek) and the place was warm and inviting. My guess is it never gets tropical hot, but Southeast is rain forest.

By that I mean, the have two weather forecasts:

It is raining.

It is about to rain.

OldDude September 30, 2009 5:29 PM

CharterO--

Unless Susan from Glendale is already here under another name, I would suggest she be pre-approved for BB status.

So is eclectic riding shotgun with me? I like the fact he's from Fairbanks and would immediately recognize any AK troll roadblocks!

Mods--so no more troll droppings? What a blessing!

Larry Sheldon September 30, 2009 5:31 PM

I'll have to listen to the Susan tape. (What is it with people named
Susan these days?

I was born and raised in or near Glendale, lived there into my 20's.

Bermuda Bob September 30, 2009 5:32 PM

Larry - No worries. A little cool weather would never deter me. Now granted, I wouldn't want to hang around outside in it unless I had a very good reason! :-)

Hank September 30, 2009 5:35 PM

Guess thats why she had to go all the way to Hong Kong to get a speaking gig...lol.

Bill in Baltimore September 30, 2009 5:38 PM

Hank,

yea, in that sleepy little town in Hong Kong, with what ? 1,000 or so people in attendance against their will ? and every news agency begging for a crumb from her table ?

yeah, you got it right Hank.

(look out, there's a locomotive behind you. Acela, in fact).

KentonAK September 30, 2009 5:43 PM

VERY good suggestion. I am indeed a dog person and love to reward them with special treats.

SarahWeddington September 30, 2009 7:43 PM

First, even if she did resign for the money, I wouldn't mind at all. She does have 5 kids, and there is the grandchild that I'm sure she's also financially responsible for to a large degree.

The AK Gov makes 125K a year. So basically she had 175K left if you pro-rate that out to Nov 2010. If she can get 1M+ through even a minimum of 10 speeches in the next year, which seems easy enough, why wouldn't she do that?

Bill Clinton made 6M in speeches last year. Even if she only gets half of that it's still equal ot 30 yrs of being Governor. Even 1/6 is equal to 8 years of being Governor.

Also, some of the enemies in AK made it clear that they wouldn't rest until she left and they would hound her every step of the way. Now she's free to do what she wants and they can't do anything. Parnell can advance her agenda and if the AGIA comes along and things go well it will only look better for her.

It was also better for the party to let Parnell serve for a year and establish himself as that would be much better than her being a lame duck, nothing getting done and then Parnell or some other republican running on a blank record. So she looked out for the state and the party. If Clinton had done the same and resigned in 1998, Al Gore would have won easily.

So, I don't even care if that is the main reason.

I also can buy that a lot of these packaged lecture series aren't frothing at the mouth to have her. They generally go with more moderate type folks and no one who will rock the boat. If they added her, she immediately overshadows the entire season. She's the most compelling political figure in the country IMHO, at worst #2 behind the President.

So Harvard and Yale aren't excited about having her. Who cares? Harvard gave us George W Bush and Obama, not exactly a stellar pair. Yale gave us Bush and Kerry, again, pretty thin gruel.

I'm sure there are plenty of places that do want her and she'll be just fine.
