THE OTHER SPEECH - Sarah Plays Hong Kong
[...]
Sarah Palin appears to be pursuing a strategy, for now, of staying out the media, letting her ideas speak for themselves, while reducing the implicitly demeaning emphasis on her persona, including her personal appearance. At the same time, she builds suspense about an eventual, inevitable “return” in dramatic living color. She stokes hunger among her political following just for the sound of her voice and the sight of her smile, but without ever quite going away. More than a few observers, even enemies and adversaries, have been forced to acknowledge her demonstrations of power at a distance - the fact, for instance, that a couple of Facebook entries and an op-ed have repeatedly forced the President to respond directly to her claims, arguably losing rhetorical control while indulging in his personal attacks on her. That he resists the mention of her name even while “everyone” knows, whispers, and passes it on, inflates her further: She has become the “one who must not be named,” looming like some psychic or supernatural force in the Obamian political drama.

A very good read.
And the "one who must not be named" comment made me lol. ;)
Thank you to the people who run this site for doing all this hard work for us and Sarah.
I try to watch or listen to this stuff live during the day, but it is just about impossible to see it all.
Daniel,
Why? Why? Why you doing this to me?
I was just about to take the speech to bed with me and you do this to me, Now i have to listen to Beck, Tammy and Kudlow. Well I guess another 15 minutes won’t hurt
Ps. Thanks for the shout out :)

ONE WORD: HOPE
1-20-13, come soon.
Uber: How sad that HA has only one comment on a truly great read. She certainly has stoked hunger among her supporters. Thanks for the link.
Sheya: You are awesome. I hope you keep it up. It inspires us.
interesting pictures. As I have said before, you never see Mrs. Palin without a smile on her face. As someone else said, that shows her soul is happy.
John...Go brush your Teeth..

Thank you for posting a great round up of the commentary on Sarah's terrific speech.
Hey Whit...I need some info from you...
I'm flying to Chicago in October...Then renting a car and driving to Iowa for a function... my husband I have been invited to...Need some great points of Interest..
Like...Antiques...or as my husband says Junk Stores...or anything else...:)
I can give you a... e-mail address...
I may be slow on the uptake with this, but after reading the Facebook excerpt of Gov. Palin's speech, I would say with 99% certainty that she is running for President.
At the risk of sounding like a complete nerd (which you all already know), I'll be turning 30 just 8 days before the 2013 inauguration.I can't think of a better way to celebrate!
Glenn Beck and Tammy Bruce are AWESOME. I listen to Tammy everyday, she ROCKS!! Glenn is right about Sarah, I don't think she will leave parties, I think she will try to fit the rat hole which is the GOP. I say rat hole because that place is full of RINOS which needs to get their asses thrown out
Loved Jonah Goldberg's comments.
Hannity, um...former Playboy CEO?? Anyway, Tammy Kicked butt in her review. Glenn Beck is as excited as any of us Palinistas are as well as Kudlow.
mia, i lived in beautiful Rockford, Il, for 10 years one year. I fell in love with Galena, on the border with Iowa, on the Mississippi.
I bought an antique oak desk chair there that I have used for 35 years in my office.
Condi Rice IS definitely running
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2346953/posts
Mia,
My e-mail address is on my profile. Just shoot me an e-mail, and I'll do some thinking.:)I'm not super familiar with that part of the state, but I'm sure there are a lot of good things on I-80 which would take you from the Chicago area to Iowa. If you took I-88 instead, you could check out some of the Ronald Reagan sites.
C4P rocks! Best round-up on the web. How about Coach Holtz!
mia,
and your husband might like to know that the part of the baseball movie "Field of Dreams," when they went to visit Moonlight Graham, was filmed in Galena.
It is the home town of General U.S. Grant, who is now on the $50 bill.
Gelston...Great...Our destination is Des Moines...Is that close?
I have been to President Reagan's home town. I am sorry to say that it is not really worth the visit, as much as I worship the man.
Whit...Thanks!
Wise,
I doubt it. She issued what's pretty close to the Shermanesque statement.
http://gopwomen.blogspot.com/2009/04/where-is-condoleezza-rice.html
I have yet to go to the Reagan sites. One of my good friends had her wedding reception on Eureka College's campus (Reagan's alma mater) this summer. They had a small, but pretty interesting little Reagan museum right next to the reception hall. They had to come find me in there so that I could return to help decorate.:) There is also a piece of the Berlin Wall on campus there. We took wedding party pictures near it. It was pretty cool!
mia, Galena is a bit north of a straight line from Chi-town to Des Moines. But not to bad it you have the time.
I know that Sarah's Global speech debut would be a major blockbuster.
Gosh! We have the Real Rockstar!!!!
Her name is Sarah 'Cuda Palin!
Thanks so much for the round-up. Good positive stuff all around. Tammy Bruce is such a good supporter for the Guv.
Thanks especially to Sheya who makes the Fox videos so accesible so quickly.
Gelston and Whit...We have the time...When I travel with my husband...I make him fly to a city... 2 or 3 hundred miles from our destination...I like to get the lay of the land:) My husband travels constantanly...so this way he can relax and enjoy the sights...

Fairbanks Newsminer screws-up.. and has the balls to apologize!
*******************************
Fairbanks News-Miner Editorial
By Rod Boyce
Published Wednesday, September 23, 2009
The Daily News-Miner has had its agreements and disagreements with now-former Gov. Sarah Palin at various points during her time serving the state of Alaska. We have tried to maintain respect for the office of governor and to be generally civil when discussing Mrs. Palin, her policies and the actions she took while serving as governor. The same has been true for the time since she left office.
Today I must apologize to Mrs. Palin personally and on behalf of the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner for the choice of words used on the bottom of Wednesday’s front page regarding her speaking engagement in Hong Kong this week to a group of global investors.
We used offensive language — “A broad in Asia” — above a small photograph of the former governor to direct readers inside the newspaper to a full story of her Hong Kong appearance.
There can be no argument that our use of the word “broad” is anything but offensive. To use this word to describe someone of the stature of the former governor — who is also the former vice presidential nominee of the Republican Party — only adds to the anger that many people appropriately feel.
It wasn’t all that long ago that I wrote a column highly critical of Mrs. Palin for not agreeing to meet again with the editorial board of the Daily News-Miner. I used forceful language to explain my belief about why she would not meet with the editorial board. I did so, however, with civil language. It was a tough column; many people didn’t like it, though many others did. I bring up that column as a way of noting that there is a right way to disagree, a proper way to treat people.
There’s widespread belief that too much meanness exists in political discourse today. The media, already held in low regard, need to be extremely wary of that meanness slopping over into their own work. I am responsible for the content of this newspaper and need to ensure that our employees adhere to acceptable standards of decency.
I will say it clearly again now: We made a terrible mistake.
Mrs. Palin, please accept this apology from the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.
And please accept it from me.
I also apologize to our readers, many of whom have been devoted to this newspaper for years and who deserve better.

Glenn Beck has the unmitigated gall, and narcissistic stupidity, to state that in Sarah doing the Hong Kong speech she was agreeing with him that [in] "pulling away from the two parties, that she senses the same kind of stuff I sense".
WTF is he talking about? Sarah has NEVER states a position in favor of a third party!
So, now, Beck is the standard and even Sarah is seeing his light!
Tammy gets it!
Mary Kissel (WSJ) gets it!
Neil gets it.
Greta gets it but is too liberal to admit it.
Dick Armey gets it.
Lou Holtz gets it - Hannity will go which ever way the wind is blowing.
Beck? It's all about him!
One word: Huckabee.
I have a couple thoughts about the analysis.
1/ Third Party: I highly doubt that the Governor is interested in starting a third party. I don't know the Governor and I'm not much of a pundit but based on what little I know about her history and her past actions, I think that she will take the Ronald Reagan path. As Mark Levin pointed out on his show today, Reagan's loss in 1976 laid the groundwork to his win in 1980. And Reagan had the same hurdles as Governor Palin.
The Governor has always realized that she fought an enemy from within. And the best way to fight them was to beat them on their home turf. She did this in Alaska. She'll do it in the Lower 48+1.
Her admiration of both Ronald Reagan and Abraham Lincoln leads me to think that she would fight, first, to defend her party before she would start a third. Another smaller consideration is that her Facebook page still lists herself as a Republican.
2/ Jonah Goldberg/Ross Perot Comment: I disagree with him on that point. I voted for Ross Perot and remember that there was a lot of sizzle, but no steak. The Movement's growing ranks the awakening of "the sleeping giant." And we are still over 12 months away from 2010. Most of the excitement generated by Perot was driven by the media. He never had the activated base that exists today. The circumstances were also different. People are truly fearful of what is happening to this great country. I can only speak about happening locally but 9/12's have taken control of the local GOP. I think conservatives will find and push like-minded candidates, and the local party will push them in preparation for 2010.
As I've said before, Reagan's biggest failing was not having a true conservative army behind him. Many of the coattail riders, such as McCain, Graham, Spector, Hatch, were never real conservatives to begin with. Today, conservative candidates are more exposed and communicating directly to their constituencies. The base is more hungry, informed and networked.
Also, after President Obama's ascendancy, the "It's my turn"-policy-to-higher-office politics is gone. Voters are now more aware of what is going on and technology makes politicians more accountable. The business of politics today is done at light speed.
All the so-called elite and beltway pundits thought that Conservatism was dead. In a year that was supposed to be an easy will for the Democrats. Sarah's speech at the RNC last year was the spark that started fires in the hearts of many American across the nation.
That fire is growing wild. Hopefully, we will take the nation by storm.
Sarah's Facebook followers @897,357which represents a gain of about 4,000 since her speech. Project 900,000 by Thursday evening and 1,000,000 by Thanksgiving. Faster if Facebook Notes increase or public appearances begin.
Notice..Pelosi is trying to ram another health care bill through the house by Friday and defeated a request by Republicans to post a copy of the bill on line for citizens review at least 48 hours prior to calling for a vote. Time to rev up my e-mail tirades to blue dog representatives from all states.
I come home from work and there are 5 videos about Sarah Palin's speech in Hong Kong THANK YOU C4P! This speech seems to have been a very significant event in more ways than one.
Update on Instapundit Presidential poll Who would you most favor as GOP nominee in 2012?
Sarah Palin 40% (4534 votes)
Mitt Romney 21% 2423
Condi Rice 16% 1842
Other 14% 1621
Bob Corker 5% 619
Mike Huckabee 3% 304
11343 votes cast
By the way one of the commenters to this poll felt that Sarah had an unfair advantage since this poll was placed on Sarah's Facebook and on C4P.
So the close to 900,000 members on her Facebook and the thousands who use C4P are suddenly persona non grata.
Absolutely hilarious.
A great day for Gov. Palin. Thanks also to this website for all of the fantastic information on Sarah.

I agree with your analysis.
Regarding the Palin/3rd party option...I think they're misreading her intentions.
My guess is that she's speaking truth to power here...that the GOP has abandoned its principles...and that both parties have issues. And some of the wording she's using is that which libertarians and independents relate to.
But rather than going 3rd party, what I see Palin doing potentially is building a broad coalition, based on principles and shared values. She's relating to the disenfranchised...to those who are sick of both parties and of course to core Reagan conservatives.
Rather than being one of the large tent republicans who believe that bipartisanship is a virtue in and of itself, Palin I think is one who believes that the values of conservatism is boundless and can appeal to all people, regardless of political affiliation.
And this is exactly the time for this sentiment to be spearheaded by one who understands and genuinely relates to it...as evidenced by the the massive Tea Party movement. Palin is just that person IMHO because she is the Citizen politician...the only one to my knowledge who can speak to this movement without it being a cynical power grab.
She speaks for and to us because she is one of us.
But she's smart enough I think to recognize the folly in going 3rd party. It doesn't matter how great your ideas are if you're not elected.
So I think she's launching an assault on the Rockefeller Republicans like Reagan did in his time...and I think she intends to retake the GOP in the name of conservatism...while building a broad support across party lines or no party at all, as she often says.

Uber: How sad that HA has only one comment on a truly great read. She certainly has stoked hunger among her supporters. Thanks for the link.
I wouldn't worry about that Panchita.
That was added a short time ago to the Green Room which, unless an article is bumped up to HotAir's front page, doesn't usually get a lot of comments.
Also...there are already 2 threads dealing with her speech. One with the video and the other with a link to her speech. Lots and lots of comments on the first...and the other is getting quite a few as well.
Thank you C4p for all the hard work; you guys are doing a great job!
You must go over and read the post by Alex Knepper who is one of the big shots over a race42012.com (Why I've Been Warming Up to Sarah Palin)and find out why he has done a complete 180 on Sarah Palin from being a vehement anti-Palin critic, to now where he is embracing much of what she is saying.
Folks if this is a sample of what Sarah is capable of Obama will definitely be shaking in his boots over the next year or two.

Good Morning Guys.
Does anyone know how to send a link to realclearpolitics.com to advise them of an article or something? They used to have a “let us know” box, but it seems to have disappeared and I can’t seem to find an email address.
If anyone can, please let them know that the text of Governor’s speech is up on her Facebook page and if they can post it on their site. Real Clear Politics is usually very good with this stuff sometimes they just need a friendly reminder.
Following is the link you can send them. Thank You

The pics from the airport are great!! Notice she has her red shoes on again. Any woman that loves red shoes is queen in my books. Not to forget about the sealskin small purse she has across her body. She has jumpstarted the seal skin industry!!!
Go Madame 45 Go!!!
Daniel: Thanks for posting all the vids of comments on Madame 45's speech.
Here is another video of Gov. Palin answering a few questions while leaving at the airport. She is her usual glowing, energetic self.

Thank you Sheya for the fantastic videos. You and all the CP4 writers and bloggers are just awesome - the best web on the internet. Thank you all for your hard work on keeping us informed of what's going on.

Sarah Palin is at another level and really its not a matter of if she will be president, but when. 2012? 2016? This woman is methodical and knows what she is doing. She is plotting a course straight to the White House and is not at all intimidated by Obama. I think she relishes the thought of going toe to toe with Obama and whipping his ass in 2012. The only question for her is momentum.
Question to all,
Is there any politician in America who has better defined what the whole Tea Party movement means better than this woman?
Read that last paragraph in her facebook post and tell me a person who better captures the whole thinking and feeling of the Tea Party movement. She will ride this movement all the way to the White House!
By the way,
Beck is wrong about this talk of Palin becoming a small c, conservative. Uhm, she talk about Common Sense Conservatism, which doesn't sound at all like libertarianism! She is pro national defense and is the most solid social conservative national political figure since Ronald Reagan. So sorry she is not going libertarian, though on economic and fiscal issues, there should be a lot that libertarians should like in what Palin is expousing.
