Sarah Palin: Best Wishes for the Jewish High Holidays

Via Facebook:

Todd and I would like to offer our best wishes to the Jewish community as they celebrate the High Holy Days. With the celebration of the Jewish New Year this week and the observance of the Day of Atonement next week, we are reminded of the hopeful commitment to renewal and peace exemplified by the Jewish tradition and the Jewish people throughout history.

Yom Kippur, the most solemn and important of the Jewish holy days, is a time of reflection and supplication for forgiveness. The timeless human struggle to promote justice, harmony, and peace is seen here in this process of atonement – in humbly seeking pardon for past wrongs in the hope of a new beginning. It reminds us that if we wish to co-exist globally, we must all strive for forgiveness and tolerance.

A speech was given at the United Nations General Assembly yesterday that was full of hateful anti-Semitic rhetoric. It was a shameful display before a body whose very charter is premised on the need for co-operation and harmony in pursuit of peaceful co-existence between nations. Such talk was especially abhorrent coming as it did during the Jewish High Holidays. The world community must speak with one voice in declaring anti-Semitism and all forms of intolerance and racism utterly unacceptable. There is no place in the community of peace-loving nations for those who traffic in hate or deny the terrible atrocity of the Nazi Holocaust.

In this holy season, we join the Jewish people in the struggle to promote justice, harmony, and peace. May God bless them.

Thanks Sarah for recognizing a very important observance, one that would do us all good to take to heart. Atonement is very real.

On another note. Holy cow! The woman totally has no fear. Way to challenge the hateful rhetoric.

Thank you Madame 45. A voice of reason and compassion in a world torn apart. Inspiring.

Seriously...Is there a more thoughtful politician out there?? This is why she is so embraced by millions of ordinary folk. Governor Palin gets it! Well, said...again!

Beehive September 24, 2009 5:49 PM

So which one of those maniacs over at the U.N. Assembly is she subtly taking a shot at or is it all of them including Obama.

The hate that spews out of their mouths is incomprehensible.

By the way. Did Obama or the White House release anything about High Holy Days?

kjanlady September 24, 2009 5:54 PM

No, I believe that there are islamic prayers being said adjacent to the WH. He's probably busy with his best buds.

techno September 24, 2009 5:54 PM

She put Akmadinjead and Obama in their place and positioned herself as rejecting the "Truthers" who deny the Holocaust, those idiots who promote a Jewish world conspiracy, or a "racist" for opposing Obama.

"Traffic in hate" is a terrific metaphor by the way.

Timing is everything and Palin's timing as usual is impeccable.

NY Conservative September 24, 2009 5:57 PM

Not that I`m complaining but, why is it this type of sentiment, genuine and full of hearfelt goodness comes from Sarah and not any other "Prominent Politicians"...I know it`s a rhetorical question but just the same. This woman has "the goods" in TRUCKLOADS, style,class,humility...I could go on. These small but POWERFUL writings are what separate her from the rest of the herd (ok that and about a bazillion other positive things but I digress). It makes me wonder how that 70 some odd percent of Jewish voters who cast for Obama are starting to feel about their choice.

toughluck September 24, 2009 5:57 PM

Cute.. whose speech was it? Obama's? Gaddaffy's? Ahmadenijads?

Not mentioning the name leaves open so many possibilities :P

God Bless Sarah Palin. Thank you so much for the wonderful Yom Kipper message.
@Beehive
Obama hasn't released any statement about Yom Kipper, he only celebrates the muslim holidays. If he does issue something about the jewish holiday, it will be some blanket, simple statement. Thank you Sarah for speaking out against the despicable UN who sat there and listened to the most anti semetic whack job speak and applaud at his every word. Everyone knows the UN hates Israel, they always have

Über September 24, 2009 6:01 PM

It's amazing how Palin is the mirror image of Obama.

He embraces our enemies...she embraces our friends. He apologizes for our country...she reaffirms her position that America is great. He urges for more government...she recognizes the folly and dangers of such an endeavor.

She is...by every measure...the anti-Obama.

toughluck September 24, 2009 6:02 PM

Now why in the world did the great majority of the jewish voters voted for Obama? A socialist?

Don't they remember that the NAZI party was NOT a right wing party but a left wing socialist party? NAZI = National Socialist German Worker's party. What the heck is wrong with them?

I sure hope Sarah is able to grab a greater portion of the jewish vote in 2010 and 2012.

She is doing good in that front, next she needs to work on the hispanic vote. I speak spanish. If there is anything I can do I would be glad to help.

Doug Brady September 24, 2009 6:03 PM

Perfect. After yesterday's anti-Israel display by Obama, Gadhafi, and Ahmadinejad at the UN, her timing is exquisite.

blerch September 24, 2009 6:09 PM

Terrific post by Sarah. As a Jew is always saddens me that my fellow Jews vote so overwhelmingly Democratic, given that most anti-Semitism today is on the left, and with just a few exceptions, has been purged from the right. Most Jews live their lives as conservatives, but for some reason do not vote that way. Hopefully some in my community are beginning to open their eyes to see that we have the most anti-Israel president since Carter and someone who is flat out hostile to the Jewish community. If G-d willing Sarah is elected POTUS in 2012, we'll have the most pro-Israel president in history and the best friend to the Jewsih community that has ever sat in the oval office.

Sheya September 24, 2009 6:11 PM

Thank you Governor for this wonderful statement

Unless the Gov. Reads my comments here and listens to my advice, I believe that I think like Sarah. So far everything I have predicted she’ll do she delivered on. Last week I predicted she’ll make this statement.

Take this prediction: Gov. Palin will (‘will’ not ‘is’) run for president, I believe she herself has not yet decided but is positioning herself in case she decides to run. I am predicting that she will run in 2012.

Lakerfanalways September 24, 2009 6:12 PM

I have family in Israel who all adore her. They would love for her to visit Israel. In fact, there is a woman there who is in politics right now, they are calling her the Israeli Sarah Palin. I think Sarah will be welcomed with open arms if she visits Israel

Sheya September 24, 2009 6:15 PM

Beehive, Laker
In all fairness to Obama he did release a statement and video last week covering both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. It was a nice message and well presented. Let’s make sure we have our facts right before we criticize.

The Hasidic Jews (Orthodox) did not vote for Obama. They all are very conservative.

Reform Jews are liberal in majority.

eclecticak September 24, 2009 6:26 PM

Of course, the speech she is really referring to is probably Iran's 'I'm-a-nutjob' (to quote, of all people, Jay Leno}. The fact that OMMMM-BABA has not issued a statement condemning it and CACA-DAFFY'S diatribes makes him guilty of tacit agreement by omission.....

Whitney The Pipsqueak September 24, 2009 6:29 PM

Great statement, Gov. Palin! One (of many) things mocked by SNL about Gov. Palin was her love for Israel expressed during the debate.

She mentions the Holocaust in this post. One of her first posts on Facebook was regarding the shooting earlier this year at the Holocaust museum:

As first reflected upon through Twitter, Wednesday, June 10, 2009:

"Our hearts and prayers go out to the shooting victims at the National Holocaust Museum. The museum itself remembers and honors the lives lost in one of the world's most horrific genocides. To have an act of intolerance further spread hatred at this place of reflection, further adds to the grief. My heart goes out to all those impacted, especially the brave guards who acted so selflessly to prevent further injury. May God Bless the Jewish community."

I judge the measure of a person not by what he says but what he does and who he/she surrounds himself/herself with. Words are just words and therefore may be lies. Deeds are open to judgement.

Sarah is a Great Lady
obama is a small man

Sarah lives the values she expresses
Obama expresses a life he does not lead

Sarah says what she means and does what she says
Obama says what he thinks you want to hear and does what he wants

Sarah is a Truthteller
Obama is a liar

Sarah asks for forgivness and learns from mistakes
Obama denis making and blames others for mistakes

I trust Sarah
I distrust Obama

Each must decide in whom and in what they believe

I think Sarah might be pointing out which shouldn't belong! And using an important day in the Jewish community as a conduit for her message.

OT--- Here is more from the HK Speech. This is part of the opening.
--------------
“We have a special place in our hearts in Alaska for the Pacific Rim. You are Alaska’s neighbors and partners. Alaska is one of America’s most trade-oriented states and by providing more than 60% of Alaska’s top ten export markets, Asia plays a key role in sustaining Alaska’s economy.

“Personally, I’ve always been really interested in the ideas too about the land bridge. Ideas that maybe so long ago, had allowed Alaska to be physically connected to this part of our world so many years ago. My husband and my children, they’re part [unintelligible] Eskimo, Alaskan natives. They’re our first people, and the connection that may have brought ancestors from here to there is fascinating to me. Making our world seem a little bit smaller, more united, to consider that connection that allowed sharing of peoples and bloodlines and wildlife and flora and fauna, that connection to me is quite fascinating.

“Alaska exported more than $700 million of goods, $700 million in goods to china during my first year in office, and that increased again in 2008. Minerals and seafood, and second only to Japan. No doubt some of the fruits of our labor, even mine and Todd’s, ended up here on dinner tables because we commercial fish in Bristol Bay. And either as whole Salmon or caviar, commercial fishing is really tough business. And in tough conditions, we even used to laugh about this, thinking that we’re putting together such delicacies for the other side of the world, is how we referred to it. Over 70% of our exports came from wild organic fresh Alaska seafood, and our potential for more is massive because Alaska has the world’s richest seafood industry. We have the world’s most abundant salmon spawning grounds right there in Bristol Bay.

“We have much in common with Hong Kong. We’re both young and transient, independent and libertarian. Places that continue to show the world, the power and the resilience of the free market system at a time when too many are questioning it. So for Alaska, which is the air crossroads of the world, to this prosperous dynamic force in the world, Hong Kong, I bring good tidings, wishes for more blessing and vibrant life and even more freedom.”

Interesting, isn't it, that Obama could find time to mention the beginning of Ramadan but has said nothing about Yom Kippur (at least not yet)? Meanwhile, with this statement, Madame 45 continues to live up to her reputation as a true friend of Israel and the Jewish community. Lots of other leaders pay lip service, including most Republicans. I believe Sarah's reverence for the Jewish people is genuine and comes from the heart. I'll join her in sending my best wishes for the High Holy Days. I'm Catholic myself, but when I lived in the city, I had many Jewish friends and I always looked forward to Rosh Hashannah -- the Jews know how to lay out a spread. ;o)

From the next Prime Minister of Israel. Note his comments about China.

As Yom Kippur approaches (Sunday, 9 Tishrei/ Sept. 27 just before sundown through Monday, 10 Tishrei/ Sept. 28 after night has fallen) in the days in which we stand on heavenly trial before the King of kings, Israel has maneuvered itself into a situation in which Europe, wallowing in Jewish blood, will put us on trial for "war crimes." Strangely, Israel, the representative of the Jewish nation, accepts the European "judges" as a legitimate authority. My article from last week on this topic, Jewish Justice or no Justice, has been widely quoted and endorsed. Please do your best to publicize this Jewish response to the international condemnation of Israel.

May we be sealed in the Book of Life and Blessing,

Moshe Feiglin

Jewish Justice or no Justice

By Moshe Feiglin

27 Elul, 5769 (Sept. 16, '09)

"Today the world is being born, today all the creations of all the worlds stand in judgment." "And it will be determined for the countries, which for the sword and which for peace." (Rosh Hashanah liturgy)

I claimed that Israel - the representative of the Jewish Nation, the People of the Book who herald the ethics of the prophets – must see itself as a lighthouse of morality for the world and should not lend legitimacy to the regime of horrors in China by attending the Olympic Games.

The reactions that I received were more or less: "America, England and France are not boycotting the Olympics, and you expect Israel to boycott them?" In other words, it cannot be that we bear a more fundamentally ethical insight than the Western world. Furthermore, we are so small, so who are we to boycott the Chinese giant if the US and Europe are not doing so? In other words, morality is measured in square kilometers and the size of a country's population and army.

When charges of organ harvesting by Israel's soldiers began to emerge, I thought that it was quite "measure for measure." We rejected our universal role and refused to take a stand on the Chinese organ harvesting issue, and got it right back in our own collective face.

We are the children of the King. We do not have the privilege to stand passively at the sidelines and to be "just another country." We have only two options: One is to judge the world according to Jewish justice – the ethical justice of the prophets that must be restored to Jerusalem. The second option is, right after Rosh Hashanah, to re-lock our universal responsibility safely in our synagogues and to leave Judaism strictly in the domain of religion. If that is the option we choose, we will not be judging the world according to the ethics of the prophets. The world will judge us – in the International Court in The Hague.

I posted this on another thread earlier this week but in response to you r comment i’ll repost

Jews and Democrat
The claim that the Jewish vote goes heavily democrat is somewhat true but way over rated. What is not reported is that Observant and Orthodox Jews vote heavily Republican. The reason many Jews vote Democratic is more of a symbolic gesture than a vote of ideology. Many Jews have this complex that they are seen as different or too traditional and by voting Democrat it’s their way of showing that they are blending in and are as progressive as anyone else. In 2008 there were many Jews who would usually vote Republican who voted for Obama because they had this thing that if they don’t the media will label them as racists. There is also the factor of Self hating Jews someone already commented about so I won’t go into it again, but that’s minimal.
As most of you know I am an observant Jew and I have many observant, non-observant and orthodox friends and all of them, I repeat all of them, vote Republican.
Jews are well aware that Israel was always better off with a Republican administration.

ALA September 24, 2009 7:59 PM

"Mr. President, we have Quadaffi on line 1 and Ahmadinejad on line 2, both wanting to know who your Depends dealer is, and wondering why you haven't gotten a Palin Facebook Czar yet."

Nancy you crack me up :)

Obama: "Tell Mahmoud to stop calling me with preconditions!"

The ultimate paradox here is that non-Israeli secular Jews are a little left because Israel is reasonably free on social issues like homosexuality and free speech etc. Most Israeli Jews are likewise BUT they swing right on issues of defence of their nation against terrorism. (Unless, of course, they are the crazy, Israel-hating religious ones like Neuteri Karta. Visit them at www.rabbisoncrack.org)

Either way, Palin is a better fit for all of them. All of us.

What astounds me is that nobody seems to notice how the UN provides a platform for murderers, dictators and madmen, yet they are still taken seriously. They are nothing more than a global group of cronies.

CruelaDev September 24, 2009 8:49 PM

Well just keep telling Hank and all...

WE ARE LAUGHING AT YOU...NOT WITH YOU!

defendAmerica September 24, 2009 8:50 PM

@PEC

I've been thinking the same thing about her debts. She also has all the money from the Trust Fund that was raised after her resignation at her disposal. AS for the money that was raised while she was still governor, it is my understanding that it is still be investigated by the board for compliance with the state ethics laws.

In any case, she should not be short on cash.

The Hong Kong speech was clearly about experience and positioning. The cash was just a perk.

MsLiberty September 24, 2009 8:53 PM

Re: the red shoes in that photo -- that's the first thing I noticed too! Sarah loves her some ruby slippers, doesn't she?

Hey trolls, even if it were true that this site only exists to collect $$$ for Sarah .... why would we care?

Lakerfanalways September 24, 2009 9:01 PM

@MsLiberty
Hank and that bird person are paid by the DNC and Soros to come and post here. I have talked to people like this during the election, 8-10 bucks an hour to come on blogs, who wouldn't do that. That's easy money. As far as Sarah making money, who cares, if someone is willing to pay her big bucks to speak, all power to her. Now as far as Obama speaking at the UN, yeah I saw him, throwing Israel under the bus, yeah, wasn't that beautiful. Just the kind of President we need, a guy who goes to the UN, speaking to a bunch of anti-semite bastards who hate America, just go throw our biggest ally under the bus. What a great Commander in chief he is

rblrdr:
President Obama speaks before the United Nations.

Sarah Palin posts on FaceBook,

Reality check.

Checkmate.

Oh, goody, we're playing cliches! Here's one:

Incompetent, inexperienced President can't sell a healthcare plan even with the adoring MSM at his disposal and the same smooth speeches and personality cult which got him elected...

Housewife from Wasilla, Alaska with self-made support in the millions ignites national debate on healthcare...merely by posting on Facebook.

Game. Set. Match.

BHO and the UN. For an accurate description of the UN, see my previous post. Although it won't matter much to rblrdr. Judging by his avatar, he thinks murderers are kinda cool.

rblrdrDoug Brady (should have)said...
rblrdr is back in her mom's basement
.

Fair comment. I'm guilty too.

We should use a more Left-friendly gender-neutral type of language. One which addresses their consistent lack of substance.

ALA,

Political correctness has nothing to do with anything, nor does being "moderate" and you know nothing about my political persuasions so don't even go there. I was simply pointing out the ignorance of your statement that it's useless to "appease" groups who "will always vote Democrat."

I happen to think it's ridiculous to claim that Palin just shouldn't bother with any certain segment of the US population because "they always vote Democrat." You can always strengthen the support of the minority in those groups. Personally, I don't believe that Governor Palin deals in percentages and statistics in her decisions to post Facebook notes. With all due respect, if you're looking for that kind of cold and calculating politician, why in the world are you here?

Bill in Baltimore September 24, 2009 10:16 PM

- your personalities are peeking through. careful, that's grounds for voiding your contract.

sandra September 24, 2009 10:25 PM

Bill: please be a little more explicit. What contract are you considering.

Thanx

ALA September 24, 2009 10:40 PM

Thats exactly what I was saying -no conservative politician should bother with any certain segment of the US population. There is nothing ignorant about this statement .What is precisely ignorant is dividing people into groups.I thought we are all americans and everyone should be treated that way otherwise you have this situation where minorities have more rights than supposed majority but majority does not exist anymore, cause we are all divided.I am Sarahs biggest fan , not because she is pretty or populist or charming its because she is conservative and i hope she stays that way.

CruelaDev September 24, 2009 11:56 PM

Someone please tell me they recorded Levin tonight..in the second hour when he compared Palin's facebook..to Obama's UN speech...It was great!

Jenny Fletcher September 25, 2009 10:07 AM

I very much doubt when MY next sacred festival - the Wiccan feast of Samhain - comes along that Ms Palin will send MY community her public good wishes.

It makes me utterly sick that some people spend so much time setting one religious and cultural community against others as many of the commenters here have demonstrated.

Grow up and realise that the ONLY way that this planet is going to survive is if we stop looking at our differences and celebrate what makes us the same - our HUMANITY.

I cannot see one word of sincerity in what Ms Palin wrote, not just in this blatant attempt to win votes from the Jewish community, but in her entire political career. HUMBUG

Bill in Baltimore September 25, 2009 10:27 AM

Jenny

>>celebrate what makes us the same - our HUMANITY.

let me re-phrase that for you:

>>celebrate what makes us the same - our SINFULNESS

there, fixed it, so you are partially right

Bill in Baltimore September 25, 2009 10:46 AM

sorry, let me re-phrase

>>recognize what makes us the same - our SINFULNESS

there . . . now it's fixed

ftw54 September 25, 2009 8:12 PM

Jenny Fletcher..... I am an eclectic Pagan and Goddess worshiper and I support the Lady Sarah whole-heartedly. I imagine you are not a resident of Alaska (which I AM), so your ignorance of her sincerety and inherent honesty come from only being exposed to the medias' distorted picture of her and not the actuality of her being. May the Grace of Goddess help to open your eyes.....

Blessed Be
