Utah GOP Senate Candidate Mark Shurtleff Stands Up for Governor Palin Against Obama
Editor's Note: This post is dedicated to our friend, Beehive and other folks from Utah who follow C4P. This post should not be read in any way as an endorsement of either candidate given the many endorsement requests that we receive on a daily basis. :)
Utah Senator Bob Bennett was one of four Republicans to stand up and applaud when Barack Obama effectively accused Governor Palin of lying when she used the phrase "death panel" as a metaphor for what would likely occur down the road should Obamacare ever become law. Bennett is also up for re-election in 2010. Mark Shurtleff, Utah's Attorney General, is challenging Bennett for the GOP nomination and highlighted Bennett's decision to support Obama:
"It is no surprise Bob Bennett stood with the Democrats and applauded Obama's attack on Sarah Palin," said Jason Powers, campaign spokesman for Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff, who entered the race in late May. "In Washington, D.C., you are known for the company you keep." Powers also went after Bennett for S391, legislation he is co-sponsoring with Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Oregon.
"Bob Bennett's own health care proposal has a provision calling for end-of life clearinghouses," Powers said. "No one knows exactly what those clearinghouses would do or advise, but we do know Bennett wants to appropriate one million of our tax dollars to them each year."
The Club for Growth recently released a television advertisement highlighting how the Wyden-Bennett healthcare bill would "turn[] control of our health insurance system over to the government."
While Bennett is a heavy favorite for the nomination, in the last poll taken of the race in February and before Shurtleff announced his candidacy, Bennett polled under 50% in a hypothetical matchup with Shurtleff. Polling under 50% against an opponent is typically considered a danger sign for an incumbent in a general election, let alone a primary. The data is really surprising considering that Bennett has served as Utah's junior Senator since 1992.
Pallin' around with Obama probably wasn't the smartest decision by Bennett. The same poll showing Bennett under 50% against Shurtleff shows Obama's favorables/unfavorables in Utah to be at 33/53 at a time when Obama was actually fairly popular nationwide.

What a douchebag! Go Mark. Destroy him in the primary.
Hehehe....how bout a Palin campaign stop for Shurtleff? lol.
I hope Sarah does campaign for Shurtleff. I've heard a little about Bennet from some friends in Utah, he leaves quite a bit to be desired. Cleaning out Washington will require people really paying attention in the primaries and not just waiting for their preferred party telling them who to vote for.
Screw Benett and Mccain and Saxby and Snowe and all the other Rino-Obamasslickers.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Bennett has been sliding for awhile now. He would be better back at home in Shady Pines.
In case you missed it!

Beck: “Sarah Palin took apart the Republican party before she even thought about the Democrats, she took them down and cleaned up the corruption”

I bet Sarah wishes that photo was never taken.
I wouldn't bet any money on a Bennett re-election. And to quote wisetrog: What a douchebag!
Thanks Sheya for the Beck shout-out for Palin.
look like sarah needs to endorse Mr. Shurleff as punishment for mr. Bob Bennett
Sarah has skirtails ... And now watch, there will be a slow trickle of Republicans who GET IT.
Bravo for Shurtleff.
I lived in Utah for 16 years of my life, and still have family out there. I can tell you that in my view, it's PALIN COUNTRY.
Oh. My. Goodness.

Some guy wrote an opera about the Palin/Biden debates.
Neo,
The pic is hillarious.
I wanna see that opera. And notice, once again, that it's Sarah's words that are the memorable ones from the debate, and the title of the opera.
She's an original!
I thought how the composer said he felt drawn to Palin, even though he wasn't drawn (apparently) to her politics. He said he felt a pathos toward her.
That's because she represents EVERYWOMAN and the American spirit.
Did anyone catch Greta Van Susteren last night?
Apparently, the Univ. of Illinois studied the photos from the march on D.C.; and using mathematical calculations, they determined the number of people marching to be 1.7 million.
I only heard about this later...I missed the show.
Has anyone seen a Youtube on this?
The time to get rid of RINOs is now.
First of all, the image of Biden as Elmer Fudd playing Siegfried in that old Warner Bros. Cartoon, about the Ring series, came to mind.Would she be Brunhild in this.
To take Joe 'don't travel on planes, trains, and automobiles' Biden, is a logical leap. My knowledge of the series is a little spotty. The lead in to the
piece was unnecessarily dismissive,
As I suspected, from the cover art
from the Libretto, it's not going to get it right:

Hey thanks for the shout out.
I'll tell you what. Bennett is in a lot of hot water here in Utah. People are waking up to his Rino ways.
Now there are other candidates who are conservative out there to challenge him. He will struggle this election. Shurtleff was a great AG and people really like him.
As for what Bennett did standing up like that. I sent him a scathing email. He is an embarrassment to our state.
And guess who threw their hat in to support him? None other than Mitt Romney. He held a big fundraiser for Bennett.
It would make millions of us Utahns happy to see him go.
Way to go Shurtleff. Keep fighting the good ole boys!
Shurtleff had some troubles,because
he telegraphed some of his opening campaign on twitter, but Bennett's
latest pratfalls have likely given him a chance
Forwarded this to a friend that lives in Utah.
Thanks for the information.
Beehive:
I feel your pain. My senator is, after all, Kay Baily Hutchenson!!!
Lipstick
Yep. It is mighty painful to even have to say his name.
I am still waiting for a reply to the email I sent.
Why won't these Beltway DC politicians listen to us. We elect them to represent our values and they refuse to do so.
I let Bennett know that I was supporting Shurtleff or anyone else who was running against him. What a hoser.
And I also said I hoped Gov Palin came down here to Utah and did a little campaigning for Mark Shurtleff.
I know. I know. Like they really listen. Oh well it felt mighty good to let the hand clapping baboon know how I felt.
Sorry Ms. Palin received the attention of a criminal. Mark Shurtleff is nothing more than a criminal aiding and abetting crimes in Utah. He is protected by local Federal Judges and the local U. S. Attorneys Office.
Cannot get a federal grand jury...
