Another convert to common sense conservatism?

Jus a few short months ago Poligazette-blogger (and fellow Dutchman) Michael van der Galien was so struck by the Mitt virus that he felt moved to pick a fight with C4P on his master's behalf. Turns out six months is a very long time in moderate politics too. Because this morning on my (Dutch-language) blog Dagelijksestandaard.nl Michael wrote a post blasting New Jersey gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie for... failing to ask Governor Palin to come and campaign for him in the closing stages of his tightly fought race. Quick translation of the main argument of 'Without Palin you won't get far':

"Christie, a friend of Mitt Romney's, has asked Palin to stay out of his campaign. Which is of course very loyal of him, but Palin happens to be the one Republican who can whip up support for a candidate. Unlike her rivals, she's got millions of loyal fans. Only someone with a Scooby Doo sized brain and no political savvy would tell her that her help isn't wanted. Christie is still clinging to a slender lead, but the only way he can bring this race home is to ask Palin to come and spend a couple of days on the campaign trail with him."

Amen to that.

If you want to help convert a few skeptical Dutch souls to the right cause, btw, feel free to make a little excursion to our site. My readers are generally good people, but they have a bit of a blind spot when it comes to Governor Palin. And don't worry: no need to Babelfish your answers, English will do just fine. Since I live in DE Christie is on the TV all the time. To me he looks like another slime ball. In the first case the Guv never asked to campaign for this dude.

The repubs that can't read the tea leaves (TEA PARTY) and see where the people of this country are going will always be blind to reality. Better to let them fail than to let them think that they are right.Romney can run around and raise some money but it won't amount to much.

Christie's reasons for not asking Palin to campaign for him sound logical, but they can be perceived as a brush-off, too. It's too late to ask her now. I'm sure she doesn't plan to be a fairy godmother for candidates who can't hack it.

And yes, he does look like a slimeball.

CodaCuda, October 6, 2009 8:56 AM

I thinks he is a RINO and I would want Gov. Palin to be tar with that.

narciso, October 6, 2009 8:56 AM

Me thinks, Christie is more a Fizgerald, than a Guiliani, otherwise he would have had the confidence to bring her in, maybe they should have gone with Lonergan

I seen a couple of news reports Christie has some problems with a loan he gave to somebody or something like that.

Christie!... Oh where!, Oh where! did your numbers GO?
They must have figured out you were just another smoo!

A bit of a blind spot about Sarah? We eviserate trolls and tend to program critics with a a popular mind control technique. We bombard them with facts!

Thank goodness the trolls seem to be gone. Now we can revert to the sweet, gentle people we really are. At least here on this site.

my second cousin was governor of the state of New Jersy in the 60s. Mrs. Palin should stay far away.

GAHanson, October 6, 2009 10:03 AM

Wait a minute, didn't Romney do a huge event for Christie just a few months ago? It was all over the papers how Mitt wowed a huge crowd of FIFTY. Mitt followed up his huge success there with a rally in VA just a few weeks ago where he addressed a "crowd of dozens for McDonnell." Yes, with Mitt attracting crowds like that, who needs Palin? Both these jokers need her help, badly, but neither one of them have asked for it, what a shame. At least McDonnell seems like a good candidate, Christie is just another RINO, but the psychological impact of having 2 republicans win the governorships of NJ and VA, would be enough to help deep six 0bamacare, and just about everything else he wants between now and Nov 2010.

narciso, October 6, 2009 10:13 AM

WEnt over to that site and posted a comment or two, the first I used Babelfish and you imagine how that turned out. Then I resorted to English to ward off someone who appears to be a troll

yogi41, October 6, 2009 10:15 AM

I didn't read the article, but if this guy is a Mitt supporter, he'll probably stay that way. I find that most people who dislike Palin and say they won't vote for her and she had better not be on the ticket, IN THE SAME BREATH say that she's the one who can raise money and crowds for their candidate.

So, this guy writing this article is probably just stating that Gov. Palin should be used for crowds and money. There are many in our party that want to use her for these purposes but don't want to help her win the crown. To me, these are the most despicable types of all.

yogi41, October 6, 2009 10:23 AM

Read your posts over there. LOL! Heck, at least you gave it a try.

RINO-Hunter, October 6, 2009 10:28 AM

I had an exchange with somebody at AoS a few days ago about the same thing. Let me be perfectly honest: if she accepts the VP spot with Mitt (or any other RINO) I will consider her a sellout and lose respect for her.

I've been wondering...If Chris Daggert is a true conservative, why not have the Gov campaign for him? I realize at 16%, he's way back, but there's 4 weeks left to election day. I think it could be done.

narciso, October 6, 2009 10:41 AM

I wasn't going to comment, but saw that fellow Poligazette and C4Per Josh Livestro was there, so I gave it a shot.

narciso, why weren't you going to comment ? because of the system, or what ? just wonderin', I'm wrestling with the system and being vocal about my feelings.

narciso, October 6, 2009 11:36 AM

At first I thought he had the situation under control, than I saw the troll, spreading Huff Po level idiocy, and I was prompted, the first time I used Babelfish, having embarassed myself enough I switched to English. I got some
grudging recognition from the fellow, but they are on to us, so expect incoming trolls

katiejane, October 6, 2009 12:14 PM

Unfortunately it looks like Christie is on his way to losing the election. While he is by no means a conservative he is at least not a flaming lib like Corzinne. Gov Palin wouldn't want to use any of her political value to campaign for someone who has little use for the majority of the positions she supports.

narciso, October 6, 2009 12:34 PM

Michael admits that he's not a sudden Palin convert, but she and her followers are enthusiastic, and resourceful, and she does have her uses. Now that they penned the link here, they might come to some wisdom

Nancy, October 6, 2009 12:49 PM

narciso @ 6:24,
Loved your Scooby-Doo line! LOL!:)

narciso, October 6, 2009 12:51 PM

Here's the last entry he made using a better translation service:

Hey, it's not meant ironically. I'm not saying I suddenly am so strongly pro-Palin, but I am of "you'll be in to win elections." If Palin can help you with that - and she can - then go so a pact with d ' r to. That's very simple. As for the hordes: this is a great way to show to you how her supporters are fanatical. They use babelfish and other sites to find out what you all say and then react. They really have nothing to do with you - because you do not vote in U.S. election - but they simply want you to be well informed about who Palin is, what it stands for and what she has achieved. Why? Because they believe so strongly in her. Again, no other Republican can such loyal support. I even think that she is the first since Reagan who can.

narciso, October 6, 2009 1:23 PM

Thanks Nancy, I was wondering what line you were refering to, that's certainly the way he's feeling right about now

James in Missouri, October 6, 2009 1:37 PM

Fellow conservatives, we need to stick together. No more voting for RINOs...period.

narciso, October 6, 2009 2:11 PM

You know I was willing to give Steele the benefit of the doubt, re the Politico story, then he does this:
http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2009/10/after-horrible-acorn-gaffe-it-might-be.html

Sapwolf, October 6, 2009 2:19 PM

Christie is a moderate and a RINO. Sarah should keep to her own words and NOT campaign for him. He is more of a Charlie Crist of NJ.

Sarah should stay out because he is NOT one of .....

Sarah's People

Sapwolf, October 6, 2009 2:21 PM

Narciso,

I agree. Last night I finally agreed that Steele has to go. It is not too late before the 2010 elections to get someone new.

He needs to stick to fundraising and other things that traditionally are part of the job of the RNC head.

He seems to be getting too much media and gets caught too much in awkward quotes.

Sapwolf, October 6, 2009 2:23 PM

Sarah campaigning for McDonnell would be OK because he is more on the conservative side and is much closer to Sarah's beliefs. Christie? No way in Hell. Lonegan would have been the candidate for her to stump for.

Sapwolf, October 6, 2009 2:25 PM

If they had gone with Lonegan and then Sarah stumped, the turnout for him would have been very high and he would have won. I think people in NJ will see that Christie is just Dem-Lite, big whoopy.

manajordan, October 6, 2009 6:12 PM

I don't know if this guy is a convert or not. But, I do think that Sarah Palin is building the right foundation for Americans to follow. Common Sense Conservativism is a rallying point for people we need to be headed in a better direction. Sarah if you build it they will come. Keep up the amazing work.

eyedsman, October 6, 2009 7:12 PM

ot. finally, i have this new comment system figured out. Even tho thdere will be lesser trolls, i do wish the sarcastic sisters will be as sarcastic as before.

Anonymous, October 6, 2009 9:33 PM

I don't know if her campaigning for Christie is such a good idea. NJ is as dem as you can get. I doubt she'd be the difference in pushing him over the top and if she does go all of a sudden it becomes a huge test of her credibility and if Christie loses it's a huge humiliation.

Sort of like Obama in Denmark. He didn't know the result, put himself on the line, and came home with his tail between his legs. The difference is he's already President and will be for the next 3 years so he doesn't really care. If she campaigns for him and he loses that could be the end any future hopes, like how George Allen's loss in 2006 finished him.

I just don't think it's worth the risks. If it was a state like VA and McDonnell fine, but NJ is so far dem that it's not worth it.
