"The Era of GOP Women"
I must admit, I was briefly excited yesterday when I went on the Washington Post’s website and saw this headline: “The Era of GOP Women”. Then I saw Meghan McCain’s picture next to it. I should have just stopped there and not clicked on the link. Foolishly, I did. Sigh.
I should have known that it was a column by Kathleen Parker. I also should have known that when talking about GOP women, Parker would work in a slam against Sarah Palin. She did:
In the past few months, several conservative women have emerged as candidates and critics to challenge the notion that the GOP is the party of men. They're also putting to rest any thought that Sarah Palin is the female face of the party.
The McCain campaign had the right idea; it just picked the wrong woman.
Honestly, I have no idea why Kathleen Parker thinks it is okay for her to continue to speak on behalf of GOP women. She is no more a Republican woman than President Obama. When you drop the green eyed jealousy monster bomb against the most popular GOP woman in the United States right in the middle of an election, you generally lose the credibility to speak on behalf of GOP women. When you fawn over the new Democrat President while riding on Air Force One, you have lost all integrity with GOP women.
Ms. Parker, let me tell you about GOP women. I am a GOP woman and have been for years. I talk to GOP women every day. I have helped get GOP women elected to office. I started a GOP women’s group in our county back in 2005. I am currently the chairwoman of the Republican Party of Kenosha County. I have enjoyed membership with the National Federation of Republican Women in the past. The NFRW membership is well over 100,000. These ladies are the experts on GOP women because they are GOP women.
Ms. Parker, I hate to inform you of this, but you do not represent GOP women or the opinions of GOP women. In fact, most GOP women don't actually like you. See, we haven't forgotten the stunt you pulled during last year’s election (not to mention what you said this summer).
Reading through your column and seeing you hold up Meghan McCain as a GOP role model shows me exactly how out of touch you are with the average Republican woman. Ms. Parker, Republicans have about as much respect for Meghan McCain as they have for you. Republicans look at her as a conservative sellout. Like yourself, Ms. Parker, she cares more about being popular with the liberal elites than she cares about conservative policies and principles. She's perfectly free to speak her mind, but I know quite a few young conservatives, and they are not falling all over themselves to be like Meghan.
Ms. Parker, the liberal media elitists in Washington love you and Meghan McCain. Somehow the liberal media elitists have suckered the two of you into saying anything they want you to say.
Let me tell you about the conservative women Republican's like and look to for leadership:
-Liz Cheney - yes, Ms. Parker, you got this one right.
-Congresswoman Michele Bachmann - the more the liberals hate her, the more we love her.
-Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn - taking on Obama's Czars.
Of course there are many more and time will tell which direction we will be heading. Perhaps Whitman and Fiorina are part of the GOP's future. Right now they are relatively unknown.
Ms. Parker, I am also sorry to inform you that Sarah Palin is absolutely at the top of the list of conservative women that the GOP is looking towards for leadership. To deny this, is to completely deny reality.
The reality is that no woman in the history of the GOP has, to date, excited the GOP more than Sarah Palin. Once again, to deny this is to deny reality.
If you want to know who GOP women consider to be their leader, look no further than the NFRW. They will tell you exactly who they look to for leadership among GOP women.
There it is, right there on the front page of the NFRW website, a link to an article "GOP Women take a page from Palin's Facebook". Of course, Sarah Palin is the leader of the women in the GOP.
If you read the article linked by the NFRW, you see this:
Sarah Palin's effective use of Facebook is echoed in the campaign trainings conducted by the National Federation of Republican Women, which put growing emphasis on Internet technologies.
Ms. Parker, I am not certain where you get the notion that Sarah Palin is not at the top of the list when it comes to GOP woman, but you are absolutely fooling yourself.
I assume you will continue to make frivolous assumptions and will continue to write about them. That is fine. That's your right. However, could you at least be honest with yourself when writing these columns?
It is time to face reality. The reality is that Sarah Palin is beloved by the GOP and conservatives everywhere. Nothing you can do or say will change that. Palin has a still unreleased bestseller to prove this point.
Ms. Parker, I am a GOP woman and you are not. I am asking you to stop making assumptions and stop speaking on my behalf.
Ms. Parker, you do not represent my values or my politics...Sarah Palin does!
Update by Mel: (h/t Doug) Apparently, Peggy Noonan, someone who (like Ms. Parker) has let her PDS get the best of her in the past, is having some trouble at her new gig.

KC on KP. Love it! Rock on, KC.
Well done. I hope you e-mailed this to Ms. Parker.
Excellent! Amen! One of the sleeping giants that Sarah Palin woke up is the Conservative women of America. They are standing up more and more. She gave us more courage to do so.
Great article KC! I just linked it at Free Republic.
Bitterclinger,
Kathleen Parker's email is kathleenparker@washpost.com
Excellent post. K Carpenter, you're not only a GOP county chairwoman and a clear thinker, you're (dare I say it?)...
a Barbarian Babe supreme.
Oh, and thanks for reminding me of the actual surname of Kathleen what's-her-name.
But I'll probably forget it again very soon. (Seems to happen every time Chrissy Matthews sings about losing that tinglin' feelin'.)
Nancy - hope you've been working on some new lyrics. (Or you can recycle the old favorites.)
Way to go, K. Carpenter!
The only thing that makes Meghan McCain anything in Kathleen Parker's "conservative" women world is Meghan would go on the Late Show with David Letterman in a heartbeat, just like Kathleen would. Neither one of them have a clue about the conservative movement whatsoever.
K. Carpenter,
This is a great post! I read that Parker op-ed the other day, and it both frustrated me and disappointed me, but didn't surprise me. I'm tired of people telling us who our leader is, as if we can make that decision for ourselves. As a young, conservative woman, I'm especially tired of Meghan McCain being touted as the face of young conservatives. She certainly doesn't represent me. Perhaps some of her statements and stances come from a lack of a wisdom that can only come through life experiences. I know that I am guilty of that too. However, it nonetheless is frustrating the way the media mocks and belittles our ability to create our opinions and select our own leaders.
Ok, I'm done with my rant.
LOL!:) Great one, techno!
I sent this to HA, hoping they'll post it in response to posting the KP article yesterday. We'll see if the the great Palin hater Allahpundit comes thru...
Just kidding. (You don't really have to supply Chrissy song lyrics if you don't want to. And I need to check out for a while anyway.)
Or the Cubs being the face of MLB! Sorry, Nancy, I couldn't resist!:)
"Parker get in here" You have to say in the voice of J. Jonah Jameson, tabloid newspaper magnate. There's kind of a serious point in this, remember when the idea of a biased irresponsible press, that would slander the hero (or heroine as the case maybe ) was only in comic books.
OHHH!!!!MY EYES,,,MY EYESSSS...Meghan MAC? I am going to have to rethink my existence!
I think the next few years in politics are going to be very interesting. I think a great number of men will agree that you don't want to cross a strong, independent woman who is absolutely certain that her views and beliefs are right. Put that in the context of todays political mess and the current threats to our country's future and our children's futures and add a couple of political mothers with the strength of character as Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman. What do you get? A political revolution led by women...mothers and grandmothers and housewives and all clear thinking women who are really pissed off by today's political landscape.
Did you see Glenn Beck's program with the mothers who were better informed than the Washington politicians, the lame stream medea talking heads and the elitist beltway political pundits? Multiply that group of angry moms by a couple of million and add all the clear thinking pissed off men and you have a grassroots political revolution. Why do I think women will lead the charge? Women know instinctively when it's time to clean house and our nation's capital is brimming with putrefication. Leave any infected pustle in place and the putrefaction will keep coming back. Message to Washington: Threating the future of these women's children is your Waterloo. The fierce animal instinct of protecting one's offspring is not limited to female bears. The American mother and homemaker has been challenged by the nation's predators and they will fight to the death to protect their young. Don't underestimate the American woman. They are talented organizers who will show the nation how effective principled community organizing can be. And the great common sense conservative mother who will inspire the movement - Sarah Palin.
Yes, I think that the next couple of years, while being extremely difficult, will also be fantastically interesting.
Gosh, who'd thunk Peggy Noonan would be having problems trying to capture the attention of the Twitter generation in the classroom. They can compose a few Facebook entries & a dozen or so Tweets before she can complete one sentence at the lecturn.
Ms Noonan laps up the sound of her voice after every few words like it's a bottle of Dom Perignon.
Hm, no, Jim3, not on a bet, gardunne, it's been a while since you commented
Is Britney Spears a GOP'er? I'm just putting out new ideas for the "new face" thing!
Is Britney Spears a GOP'er? I'm just putting out new ideas for the "new face" thingy!
Has anybody ever read some of McCain's tweets? She is a foul mouth brat.
Need a good inexpensive Christmas gift idea. WalMart Books has Going Rogue for $10.00 with free shipping. Great Christmas gift idea. Wouldn't this make a perfect gift for your child's schoolteacher. Especially if they are Union members. I'm buying a few copies to donate to each of the public library branches.
Kjanlady, correct as usual. I said about the same the other day.The women (conservative mothers esp.) are leading the fight to save America for their children, a force whose power cannot be matched.
Yes PEC...She is a spoiled little snot! Her Blog is Proof Positive...
I'm thinking a swift kick in the arce.. might work wonders...then again.. look at Dad....He still doesn't get it either!

K.Carpenter--Simply awesome response. You made my day!
Meanwhile, in view of that happier Cruela, we don't have to fear as much for ours.
You're good; very good!
Still miss your avatar, though. Click on "Admin" at upper right, "Edit My Profile," obvious from there.
It's a mood swing.. it may not last!
LOL. I do love you so.
LMAO.
We know one thing for sure. Meg McCain ordered a double shot for KP at the Georgetown cocktail parties.
If Meghan McCain is the answer, I don't want to know the question.
Meggy Mac is the new face of banality and irrelevance (along with Kathleen Parker).
That said, them's some epic boobs Meggy Mac's got there in that pic.
I seem to have my "hot Button" issues..
Going to jail..and anything McCain...MAC, McCan't, and Meghan...
Sorry I just threw up a bit in my mouth...forgive me!

I'm thinkin'...that Meghan MAC.. will be the first in line to buy the Levi Playgirl thingy...I bet she camps out overnight at her local 24 hour supermarket!
Right on Kjanlady,
As I was reading your post I thought about a story from Argentina in some very dark political times, the late 70's. There were all these people that kept "disappearing." Well, finally it was the mother's and grandmother's who brought world scrutiny in by banding together. A group of them would dress in black and walk around in a circle in front of the capital all day everyday. The grandmother's were actually groups of women who knew that their grandchildren were still alive and had been taken by the government. Eventually there was such an outcry from the world stage that the tyranical government started to collapse. Many of the children were eventually returned to their families.
Sorry for going on, but history shows that when the mother's and the grandmother's in this world get involved and stand up, people take notice.
That link to Peggy Noonan's new job is hilarious. Not the Red State link, but the Gawker one. They have Peggy's actual quotes to her class, and man, Nancy would have a field day with her statements. Just for kicks, here are a few:
"I'm not a brain surgeon. You have to be a professional. I did my best and I didn't kill anybody. I can't remember what the point of my answer is."
"You know, and the problem with George W. Bush, is that he made the whole world so nervous. Y'know!"
"My study group is about being a person who thinks things and believes them and turns them into words that convey thoughts and feelings."
"You Have To Let Your Freak Flag Fly."
More at link.

Don't forget, this is the same woman who writes that Sarah Palin "isn't thoughtful enough".
That was an awesome smackdown!
The Kathleen Parker wing of the GOP doesn't realize we're at war ... we really are. We're at war with the leftist radicals trying to destroy our Republic. They just don't SEE what we see. And so they think WE are radical for supporting strong defenders of freedom like Palin, Cheney, and Bachmann.
These cocktail-swilling RINOs have been cozying up to America-hating liberals for so long they've developed Stockholm Syndrome. I have long suspected this was McCain's problem. Spending 6 years held hostage to communists, he learned not to bite the hand that fed him. Ironic, isn't it, that he got whipped by a Marxist last year and lost his title as media darling. Now our White House is infested with Bill Ayers' types, people who weren't just anti-war, but supportive of America's enemies.
As a former radical myself I scratch my head at the RINOS and the radicals ... Don't people usually stop being Marxists after college? Doesn't it lose it's appeal once you get a real job and pay taxes? Ha! How can someone in their 40s still honestly think that way? And as for the RINOs, they're just cowards. The sad part is they don't even realize they're cowards. They are slowly-boiled frogs!

Well said, Kjan. Mama grizzlies ... That is truly the imagery of the next few election cycles.
Dang!! Now THATS a Blog Post. GOoooooo K Carpenter!!
The pic has been removed.
Good points. Sounds like you have fully recovered.
Meg Whitman, who endorsed and donated the maximum to Barbara Boxer in 2004 is the future of the GOP? No conservative should vote for her. God help us. Of course, Parker is also a Romney backer and guess who Mitt's #1 protege is? Coincidence> I think not. I believe Whitman is also pro choice and moderate on most conbservatie issues.
Fiorina? Seems like a nice person but you can't be the future of the paryt after you lose Boxer. Again, mostly moderate.
Meghan McCain? Please. She's 25. Again, moderate, though.
Cheney? Fine. But she hasn't been elected to anything and as of now is mostly playing off her dad's name. Now, everyone needs a break somewhere, so I don't mind that. But let's see a bit more before annointing her the future. But she appears pretty sound to me.
I do agree with her that Sarah Palin is not the female face of the GOP, though. She's the face of the GOP. By Christmas it will obvious to anyone. Does anyone say that Obama is the male face of the Dems?
Whitman also fawned over the lunatic Van Jones.
Techno,
Great one .... made me LOL
Guest--
Your last point is especially well taken. Whether intentional or inadvertant, it does minimize her status. Believe me, lots of men appreciate the gutsy women who are walking point and wish more dudes would man up if they want to be in a leadership role. Personally, I'm not real fond of the PC metrosexual gig because I confuse them with eunuchs.
I believe she's also against offshore drilling in CA ...
Great read!! Thank you!
I must say though, that I REALLY enjoyed the bit about Peggy Noonan. What a goof!! I read the "precious gems" she shared with those poor students and just roared with laughter!!! Que rico!! Ah, karma...how sweet it is...can't stop laughing!
Liz Cheney looks interesting. She has that steely look in her eye like Sarah. I think she is one to watch. She made a comment last Sunday on Fox with Chris Wallace that had Juan Williams spazing out. She said that Obama should have a mom who's lost a son/daughter in the service travel to Norway and accept the Nobel Prize and have her give a speech about the US Military, as they are the greatest peacekeeping force on this earth. She looked 'ol Juan in the eye as she ended...chuckle...chuckle. He was tweeking! She was her father's daughter at that moment. She has huge potential, IMO.
