Governor Palin Right all Along About Global Warming
A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location. I’m not one though who would attribute it to being man-made. — Governor Sarah Palin
A couple weeks ago in Madison Wisconsin, Al Gore, noted global warming alarmist, was making a presentation at The Society of Environmental Journalists at a venue in Madison, Wisconsin. During his presentation, he was faced with something he goes out of his way to avoid: a reporter who dares to ask, shall we say, an inconvenient question about the unsubstantiated musings in his film, An Inconvenient Truth:
I could go on about the irony of Mr. Gore’s henchmen silencing the entirely reasonable question asked by the reporter, but that is something for another post. I will, however, point out that the number of material errors and outright lies in Mr. Gore’s fiction, which resulted in his earning millions of dollars, ranges from nine to thirty-five, depending on how one differentiates between material and immaterial errors. Interested readers can also look here, here, and here. But I digress.
There are currently two versions of cap and tax making their way through Congress. The House version, known as Waxman-Markey, and the Senate version, better known as Kerry Boxer. Both of these economy destroying bills are based on Al Gore’s claim that man-made, or anthropogenic, global warming is settled science and, therefore, the destruction of the economy is warranted in order to prevent…well…who knows. Another politician who fancies himself a climatological scientist, soon to be ex-Prime Minister Gordon Brown of the UK, claims we only have 50 days to act or there will be some kind of a "catastrophe". Gordon Brown and Al Gore have to be right because another noted scientist and all around deep thinker, Bill Maher, also agrees that man-made global warming is settled science.
With such quintessential paragons of intellectual prowess like Al Gore and Bill Maher proclaiming man-made global warming is settled science, why bother disputing it. If they say carbon dioxide emitted by human activities is causing a rise in global temperatures, it must be so because, well, because they said it. Since the total amount of carbon dioxide produced by humans rises every year as world population rises, it stands to reason that the climate today is warmer than it was last year, which was warmer than the preceding year, and so on.
Given all these "facts" as presented by Al Gore and his cronies, it seems quite curious that the actual climate is not behaving as the alarmists would suggest. Just in the past couple weeks alone there have been a significant number of weather events which appear to, at the very least, call into the question the veracity of Mr. Gore’s claims and thus, question whether or not anthropogenic global warming is occurring. Let’s look at a few recent weather events which don’t support the "settled science".
Global scientific data also contradicts global warming. Paul Hudson, in a recent article for the BBC, explains:
This headline may come as a bit of a surprise, so too might that fact that the warmest year recorded globally was not in 2008 or 2007, but in 1998.
But it is true. For the last 11 years we have not observed any increase in global temperatures.
And our climate models did not forecast it, even though man-made carbon dioxide, the gas thought to be responsible for warming our planet, has continued to rise.
Clearly there is something seriously wrong with the man-made global warming theory. The actual facts simply contradict the theory. For some, it’s doubtless the tendency to ignore data which is at odds with a theory they have been pushing for many years. Data dredging, or the tendency for researchers to ignore data which contradicts their hypothesis and seek out data which supports it is, unfortunately, fairly common. Although data dredging invariably leads to false conclusions, it is not indicative of deceitful motivations in and of itself. It is often just a sign of laziness on the part of the researcher.
The problem for the global warming enthusiasts is, of course, that the globe simply is not warming. Scientists, eager to save their reputations, and jumping off the global warming train in droves. In July, 2009, 60 prominent German scientists signed a letter to German Chancellor Angela Merkel urging her to reconsider her position on global warming. Marc Morano has more:
More than 60 prominent German scientists have publicly declared their dissent from man-made global warming fears in an Open Letter to German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The more than 60 signers of the letter include several United Nations IPCC scientists.
The scientists declared that global warming has become a “pseudo religion” and they noted that rising CO2 has “had no measurable effect” on temperatures. The German scientists, also wrote that the “UN IPCC has lost its scientific credibility.”
This latest development comes on the heels of a series of inconvenient developments for the promoters of man-made global warming fears, including new peer-reviewed studies, real world data, a growing chorus of scientists dissenting (including more UN IPCC scientists), open revolts in scientific societies and the Earth’s failure to warm. In addition, public opinion continues to turn against climate fear promotion.
The scientists, from many disciplines, including physicists, meteorology, chemistry, and geology, explain that “humans have had no measurable effect on global warming through CO2 emissions. Instead the temperature fluctuations have been within normal ranges and are due to natural cycles.”
“More importantly, there’s a growing body of evidence showing anthropogenic CO2 plays no measurable role,” the scientists wrote. “Indeed CO2’s capability to absorb radiation is almost exhausted by today’s atmospheric concentrations. If CO2 did indeed have an effect and all fossil fuels were burned, then additional warming over the long term would in fact remain limited to only a few tenths of a degree,” they added.
“The IPCC had to have been aware of this fact, but completely ignored it during its studies of 160 years of temperature measurements and 150 years of determined CO2 levels. As a result the IPCC has lost its scientific credibility,” the scientists wrote.
Soon after the letter was released, an additional 64 German scientists added their names. American scientists are also increasingly distancing themselves from the junk science that underlies the anthropogenic global warming hoax. Like the German scientists above, Jack Kelly, in an article for realclearpolitics.com, made the point that belief in man-made global warming is closer to religion than science:
Most liberals aren’t very religious. But they are people of faith. When reality clashes with a cherished belief, they cling to the cherished belief.
Mr. Gore is someone only a liberal could regard as an expert on climate change. He took exactly two science courses as an undergraduate at Yale, scoring a D in Natural Sciences 6, and a C in Natural Sciences 118.
Mr. Gore’s paucity of qualifications may be why he refuses to debate scientists who challenge his thesis. And he rarely answers questions after giving one of his alarmist speeches.
As the evidence moves decisively against them, alarmists are escalating their rhetoric. Britain’s Prince Charles — whose academic credentials are even weaker than Al Gore’s — told business leaders in Brazil we have less than 100 months to avert climate catastrophe
But opinion polls in Australia, Britain and here indicate people no longer are buying what they’re selling. The Society of Environmental Journalists may not notice, but ordinary people can tell when it’s cold outside..
Whatever the reason, financial, theological, or to promote socialism, those who cling (bitterly?) to the antiquated global warming religion are beginning to panic. Whether it’s Gordon Brown, Prince Charles, or Al Gore, the purveyors of the phony theory are finding it more and more difficult to defend the indefensible. Therefore they feel the need to shock people into believing their "religion" with increasingly dire warnings of global catastrophe. A study recently claimed there would be no sea ice at the North Pole within ten years, despite the fact that late last year sea ice levels were unchanged from 1979.
Obama’s plans to pass a huge energy tax, called cap and trade, may well be the last chance the left has to foist such a plan on the American economy. The whole justification for such folly is slipping away. It’s not about global warming; it’s about liberals assuaging their guilt that America is the most prosperous country on earth. In their minds, the only way to assuage that guilt is to drag the American standard of living down to the level of the third world. If they are successful in enacting cap and trade, they will be successful in this endeavor.
Governor Palin has been right all along about global warming and cap and trade. Man-made global warming is a fraud with no scientific basis and, consequently, there is no scientific or economic basis for passing such a scheme. It is nothing short of a senseless attack on economic freedom. For the United States, cap and tax will be all pain and no gain.
