New York Post: Doug Hoffman for Congress; Updated: More Endorsements Including Jim DeMint; Update #2: New poll shows Hoffman ahead

Endorsements continue to pile up for Doug Hoffman. We noted yesterday in a post that Tim Pawlenty had followed Governor Palin's lead and endorsed the principled conservative in New York's 23rd Congressional District. Today, the New York Post, in an editorial, has also endorsed Hoffman:

New York's 23rd Congressional District lies near Canada, far to the north -- but next week's special election merits attention throughout the state.

That's because the Republican candidate in that race, Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava, is the product of an obscenely corrupt political bargain by GOP bosses that sells out their party -- and New Yorkers generally.

Because of that, and because so many of her positions ill-serve the interests of New York and the nation, The Post today endorses businessman Doug Hoffman, the Conservative Party nominee.

No, Republicans needn't toe the conservative line without any deviation. Moderate GOPers like Rudy Giuliani have managed to stray on some issues without wholly betraying their party.

But a Republican should adhere to certain minimum GOP principles. Scozzafava is just too far to the left too often.

Voters in this traditionally GOP district can send a useful message -- by sending Doug Hoffman to Congress.

Well, she's done it again. Sarah Palin has thrown an endorsement into that Congressional race over in New York -- and she's rejected the Republican Party candidate in favor of the Conservative Party one.

And once again, everyone's poking at tea leaves and molesting goat innards in trying to figure out just what it all means, what Palin's really up to, what signal is she sending.

Morons.

I figured out Palin a long time ago. And while understanding her doesn't always make her predictable, it does work fantastically well in hindsight.

All you have to do is listen to her.

Update III by Doug: Two more prominent Republicans have parted ways with the GOP establishment and have announced their support for Doug Hoffman. First, Former NRCC chair Representative Tom Cole (R., OK), as reported by William Kristol of The Weekly Standard. Second, Senator Jim DeMint (R., SC) sent Erick Erickson at Redstate.com a statement announcing his support for Doug Hoffman. This is big. Both are sitting Republican officeholders and widely respected. Governor Palin's bold move has started a tidal wave.

Update IV by TR: Neighborhood Research (R) finds Hoffman leading the race for the open House seat in New York's 23rd Congressional District. The pollster came to the following conclusion:

She's [Scozzafava] going to end up in single digits and Hoffman is going to top 50%.

Update V by Doug: According to Reid Wilson at The Hill, Democrats have turned their attention solely to Hoffman and are beginning to downplay expectations of a Democrat victory:

Meanwhile, Democratic strategists in Washington are privately beginning to downplay expectations for the race, hinting that they would not be surprised if Hoffman were to win outright, defeating both Scozzafava and attorney Bill Owens (D).
