Apocalypse Rogue
The last two weeks I’ve been in and out of town on a perpetual on-again-off-again vacation and was waiting for my copy of Going Rogue to arrive with the eager and giddy anticipation of a schoolgirl. Aside from travel I’ve been house-and-pet sitting for my parents while they indulge in some retiree-style grandkid visiting, but I still manage to make it to town to check my mail.
I still haven’t received my copy.
The day Going Rogue was released, I was hopeful that it would arrive, but of course it did not. I was going to pick up a copy at Wal-Mart here in Ardmore-OK, but it was sold out … at noon, and the store had reserved an absurdly large amount of space for it. As new works by Patterson and King hadn’t moved so much as a copy, Gov. Palin’s memoir was nowhere to be found. I went to Hasting’s Entertainment – sold out. I went to our independent bookseller – sold out.
So, I figured I would sit it out and just wait for my copy to arrive. I gave up on trying to locate a store copy – I was visiting friends and knew I wouldn’t have time to read the book in the manner I like to read nonfiction, so I waited. Ten days later, nothing.
This went from amusing in a Murphy’s Law kind of way to annoying. Aside from being a supporter of Gov. Palin and having read two recent releases about her the same day I got them, I’m a book dork – I like getting First Edition First Printing (FEFP) copies of books I’ve anticipated reading, and Going Rogue is obviously no exception.
So, I went to my Amazon account, and apparently, my order from two months ago … vanished. Needless to say, the blood drained from my face. So, I started going through my bank history for the last two months and … nothing. I felt like Ed Norton the moment he realized that he and Tyler Durden were the same person. I wasn’t sure if I was being reverse Gaslight’d, or if I was losing my mind.
The latter is probably the most appropriate descriptor.
The frustration is that I’ve had most of the last 10 days off work. The plan was to get the book, spend the eight or so hours necessary to read it, then write a review on it. And now, I realize I’ve been waiting for Godot.
So, I’ll begin scouring stores trying to find what is now an elusive FEFP to read before Gov. Palin visits Oklahoma in a week, just not on Black Friday.
I don’t recall any book in this category ever driving this kind of buying frenzy. Many Libs are trying to pin this to big-box retailers offering heavy discounts on it, but there’s more to it than that, at least for me and the people I know who are anxious to read it: we’re not buying just one copy, we’re buying three: one to read, and then two more to get signed and give as gifts to people who couldn’t make it to the signing. I’ve looked at several pictures of the people standing in line for hours along Gov. Palin’s tour, and a great many of them have two copies. I know a dozen people who’ve already read the book – unfortunately, none of them live anywhere near me.
My understanding is that each store is requiring a person buy the copies at the store, get a bracelet, then only those two copies can be signed. This is absolutely remarkable – I have more than 2,000 books in my library, and most are nonfiction. I have never bought two copies of the same book at the same time, especially if I already owned a copy of it. Then again, like most of the people standing in these lines, I have never actually waited in line to get a book signed. The only authors in my adult lifetime I would consider standing in line for before Gov. Palin came along were the late Hunter S. Thompson and the relatively reclusive novelist Donna Tartt.
I’ve noticed many Liberal critics saying many of the people standing in line were merely “fans” of Gov. Palin, as though those screaming, fainting masses that attended the Obama rallies (remember them?) were all Brookings Fellows and Seven Sisters grads. I’m not entirely convinced that anyone other Bill Ayers and I have actually read either of Pres. Obama’s memoirs, as each time I go to a liberal friend’s home, I either can’t find a copy of one of them, or if I do, it’s spine is as stiff as a board. I must admit, although I love torturous reading, I didn’t actually finish either “memoir,” which qualifies me to review both of Pres. Obama’s memoirs for The Washington Post.
Regardless, I can’t wait to get a copy of Going Rogue, to read a copy, to get two signed, and to see what other Palinistas are writing about it, something I’ve resisted to this point.

Oh...it's really not that good of a book...really...
I read it...and am being told it was all lies!
Just go to the C4P vault and snag one out of the 100,000 that the website bulk ordered.:)
Sarah Palin is just one of those "greedy beneficiaries of the 80's".
Don't read her stuff, it might make you get a job.
/sarc
its like dreams of my father, only with a plot.
Sssh. It's a secret!
RICH...OH THANK GOD.. you're ALIVE!
Well, I hope I'm not giving anything away, here, but,she talks about one of the 57 states. ALOT.
I won't ruin it and spill the beans on which one.
I had a strqnge experience with my pre-order of the book from Amazon, also. Apparently, precisely on the day Amazon attempted to charge my visa for the book and ship it out to me was the exact same day and moment my new visa card arrived (the old one was expiring in December); I activated the new card, which de-activated the old card and the new card has a totally different number. So, I get an email from Amazon saying they tried to charge my account and it wouldn't go through. I figured it out pretty quickly and gave them the new card number and the book shipped out. But, I could not believe it....
Barbara Walters quoted some unnamed McCain staffers who said Going Rogue was "all fiction." So, that's most likely the truth. Anytime the MSM parrots anonymous Palin Haters, it's 100% true.
I think I know where the other 7 states came from....every time he bows to a Leader of a Country...it gets tacked on as one of our states. 7 more sounds about right!
Anybody knows who is that woman who was the "Wasilla town critic" when Sarah was the mayor?
Probably Andree McLeod.
Maybe CelticDiva?
I think it was that Kilkenny person who sent in a critical piece on Sarah to the WaPo a couple of days after the announcement in Dayton.
Nah..Celtic thingy lives in "Homer"...perfect....she is a homer
Penny I believe you are right...
There seems to be no shortage on looney tunes to choose from!
There seems to be no shortage of looney tunes to choose from!
Thanks! Looks like Anne Kilkenny.
C.B. Kurtz...
Sorry your having an Obama moment... like when TOTUS forgets it's orders...blood is not the only thing that leaks.
May be old news here, but I heard somewhere that there are 57 Muslim states in the world. Haven't verified if that's true.
I had to update my credit card info with Amazon as well. They refreshed the order, and now because of the price drop my two-book order no longer qualified for free shipping. I couldn't edit the order to add another book, so I ended up canceling it and entering a new order for three books. I also have a signed one coming from a special Glenn Beck was running, and another signed one for contributing to SarahPAC. That last one will probably be a Christmas present for my sister.
The book itself starts a little slow but picks up speed quickly. It increased my admiration for her, and convinced me that those people who call her unqualified for high office don't know what they are talking about. When I finally finished the last words, I just closed the book and said "Wow."
Anticipation...excitement building...a little hint of desparation...and then, finally, a treasured book in hand. And then the prize is won...hours of pure enjoyment when you finally have a chance to read the book which will give you a gift of joy made only sweeter by the trials you have faced in your quest. Enjoy...you won't be disappointed.
My next gift for my self.....the book on CD so I can play the book on my computer as I read the inspiring words and quotes and hope and even the funny sarcastic humor that is the daily feast on C4P. Sarah's words narrated by Sarah herself.......what could be more inspiring as I communicate with members of Sarah's ever growing army. Let the fun begin.
Kjanlady,
I am going to get the audio version too!:) I am really looking forward to hearing in her own voice, her sarcastic comments. I'm laughing reading them now, so they will be even better when I can hear her saying them herself.
I got the Audio book today. It is GREAT!!! Hearing her tell her own story with her on inflections. Her voice has a lower tone that when she speaking publicly.
LadySam,
Where did you get it?:)
Purchased at Borders. I have one ordered online from them since before
the release. They now tell me they are out of stock. I called the
local store and the had one left. I went immediately and got it.
Tulsa, OK
system.
I agree the first six pages are best skipped and saved for later unless you like flowery description. The writing style of that section is not like the rest of the book which flows easily and "sounds" like Sarah Palin--interesting and straight talking all at once.
C. Brooks,
You have a wonderful comedic writing style. I laughed out loud twice in this paragraph:
"I’ve noticed many Liberal critics saying many of the people standing in line were merely “fans” of Gov.
