Demand for Governor Palin's Salina Speech Overwhelms System
Tickets sales have been extraordinary for Governor Palin's February trip to Kansas to deliver the keynote address to the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce. In fact, according to the Salina Journal, ticket sales have been suspended, at least temporarily, so they can sort through the systemic overload caused by the unprecedented demand:
Because of an overwhelming number of requests, the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce has suspended the sale of tickets to its annual dinner, which will feature former Alaska governor Sarah Palin.
"At this point, I am not saying that we're sold out," Chamber president and CEO Dennis Lauver said early Thursday afternoon. "If you've already called us or contacted us, either electronically or by phone, or stopped by our office, what we're asking is that you be patient and not initiate a new request at this time. We are processing those requests at this time."
Chamber officials have also -- at least temporarily -- quit taking phone, e-mail and walk-in requests for tickets to the Feb. 5 annual meeting, Lauver said.
Lauver said all 1,408 dinner seats have been spoken for. The chamber determined, including gallery seats, that they will have 4,000 seats available for the annual meeting. Once workers have processed the requests that have been made, he will know whether further ticket requests can be filled.
Lauver didn't know when the number of tickets to be made available would be established. He said chamber officials were meeting at the Bicentennial Center on Thursday afternoon to try to establish a seating scheme.
Lauver said a record number of ticket requests already had been received, and his office had been overwhelmed.
The previous record for ticket sales for a chamber annual meeting, he said, was about 1,500.
"We are at more than double that right now," he said.
Would the Salina organization experience equally high demand if, for example, Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee were to address the group? Just asking...

Mittens and Gomer.....Would they be equally...in High Demand... to address the Group????......
Good one Doug!...I just sprayed My Computer Screen!!!!
So much for- "not much demand" -for Gov P alin's speeches in her own country.
I will have to travel 258 miles for the closest book signing. That is in NY. I am trying to talk my Hub into a stay over but that still doesn't guarantee getting a book signed.
Any news on the speech tonight?
Romney, Huck, and T-Paw at an event together won't out sell Gov. Palin.
The demand for Governor Palin’s Salina speech overwhelms the system?
Well how can this be?
Mike Huckabee told me that she “does not have a big of an impact”.

Romney, Huck, and T-Paw at an event together won't out sell Gov. Palin.
Boo. I haven't sent in my request yet because they said they weren't accepting reservations from non-members yet. Now I may not get to go. Hope the book tour comes near here...
That poll, at least as reported at realclearpolitics.com, was soooo misleading. They took the "approval" numbers from Republicans only and compared them to "qualified" numbers from all adults. It was ridiculous. Now, I don't pretend there isn't some disconnect between a 65% approval rating and 56% qualified rating among Republicans, but the disconnect is certainly less than 65% approve/31% think qualified.
Gov. Palin is hugging the y-axis of the supply and demand plot.
Huck, Mitt and TPaw together wouldn't even draw the 1,408 dinner seats, much less gallery seats. My bet is that they will fill all the gallery seats, and have a 2nd site for overflow who will watch the event on TV, maybe 5,000 or more altogether.
techno, there is a huge disconnect when you consider this event, and the CNN poll a week or so ago where her positive character traits, honesty, truthfulness, not usual politician, cares about people, etc.. But, we all have to remember that during the campaign when people were polled on whether or not 0bama was "ready to be president" his numbers fluctuated between 44 and 46 percent right up to election day. So, people saying Palin's not ready to be president today, 3 years away from the election isn't surprising, and it's rather meaningless. These numbers will start to shift after the release of her book, all the interviews she gives and the book tour. Plus, if she takes a lot of time during 2010 to travel promoting her new PAC, and later campaigning during the midterms. Lots of time to win over the skeptics.
Not too bad for an irrelevant quiter, huh?
Let's look at this from a strategic angle.
In 2012, the Republican Primary system will, I suspect, still be a combination of Winner Take All and Caucus systems in small states. Places like Kansas and Wisconsin are very important to Sarah right now. These kinds of speeches till the ground for future political ambition.
The Book Tour, you will note, hits a lot of "small town" venues. These venues are chock full of Republican Primary Voters who will recall when Sarah came through a couple of years previous.
Yes, you hit New York, LA, and Chicago. But you till the ground where your primary voters are at.
Hey guys, I will see Palin in a few hours! Boy this is going to be a long day!
Big Time....Jealous!...sigh..
TOMORROW PELOSI'S CONGRESS MEETS TO VOTE ON HEALTH CARE!
SARAH PALIN SHOULD ANNOUNCE TODAY THAT SHE WILL BE
STANDING ON THE STEPS OF "OUR HOUSE" WHILE THEY VOTED.
IF SHE DID, HOW MANY PEOPLE WOULD BE STANDING WITH HER?
STAND SARAH STAND :-)
Have you heard the estimated attendance figure yet? I will be coming from work and plan on being there by 5:45. Is that too late?
Let us know how it goes.
I hope we get a full write up about the speech. Please I'm not begging but....
If this story is any indication. I can see it now about a week to ten days in the North American Tour of “Going Rogue” will be scraped because of the size of the crowds. I do not think Harper Collins have any idea what the crowd size is going to be. I seen one stop had Sarah from 7-9 pm at some mall. Yea right 2 hrs is going to be enough time for all that show up. For Sarah’s sake I really, really hope it is not a PR FUBAR
Spoken like a statistician. :)
Tweeter feed maybe.
Has anyone heard of live streaming coverage? CNN? C-span? Fox?
No, it may not gaurantee, but I bet that Governor Palin will sit there until every individual has had a chance to say hello to her.
This is the beginning of her campaign, to speak directly to the people. This is what she loves. Remember she said that we may not be ready for the kind of campaign she would conduct.
So don't be short sighted. Also, remember Fred Thompson got into his red pick-up truck and drove to the people. Get in line-it'll be worth it.
These people complain about everything she does.
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/11/06/palin-to-keep-low-profile-on-wisconsin-trip/
Awww. You are so lucky. So, we will be awaiting your report!
In researching the answer to my own question above re: live streaming of the gov's speech tonight, I did find that C-Span is streaming Yawnplenty's speech tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. to the Iowa Repub's Party Fall Event.
Look in the right sidebar under "This Week on C-Span."
I hear Sarah's NYC book signing is being held in Yankee stadium.
:-)
:-)
I am hoping C-SPAN has a tape recast of the speech like they did for Indiana.
"Would the Salina organization experience equally high demand if, for example, Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee were to address the group? Just asking..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
heehee :)
That's exactly what I am thinking. I think the tour will become a national story, day after day, regarding the crowd size, protesters, etc. As the story grows, the crowds could grow. People want to be where there is excitement.
Wouldn't that be specatacular? :)
There is absolutely nothing objective about CNN or this piece. I hope their ratings fall off the planet and they must shut down ...
"Figures don't lie, but liars figure."
Jean , which one are you going to try to go to? I ve also been looking if i can talk the wife into going. The Roanoke stop looks like a good stop it is a sunday signing . the signing isn't till noon but they are going to pass wrist bands starting at 6 am. I figure go the night before and be in line at 530 then kill the time sight seeing . I'm in centreville md and maps says about 4 hrs. The Penn signing is nw pa and is in mountains a litle further distance and time wise.
I have heard no crowd estimates. I will try and estimate when I get there tonight. I will not be able to post during the event. No phones, no photos, no recordings. I will not even try to cheat. I will cell phone with me, which has video, camera and internet. However, I will not even take a chance at getting tossed out, so my phone will be off.
I will try to twitter and post on my own personal blog when I get there. I should be there around 4 to get in line early. Building doors open at 5:30. Event doors to the seating will not open until 6:30. The event then starts at 7:30.
Give her a big hug from us all. Short of that, at least a big wave and shout-out.
Can't wait to hear about it. : )
hrh
I watched CNN live streaming for the Sarah's Indiana speech in April... hopefully we can find this one somewhere!
Of course CSpan did have a tape cast later
What's the matter with these event organizers, don't they read C4P?
How many times do I have to say it: Stadiums, baby, stadiums!
Requires at least the largest arena in the local area. She's a superstar, for goodness sakes!
I'm thinking the media will ignore it...just like they did the 2 million people that were in Washington on 9/12.
ChillininMn
Isn't sarc. great for us Sarah Palin Americans to use so effectively to make our points of contrast?
Sarah COMMANDS like no other!
Could I ask a favor?... let me know if my avatar is showing! it's a dead rino
Whitney
Great observation... in Sarah's case It's like Rocket-Science... STRAIGHT UP!
Mike Huckabee spoke in Illinois a few weeks ago. I didn't hear about until a day or two later.
rae4palin
Irrelevant Quitter! LOL!!... a sarcastic title for another book!
Could I ask a favor... let me know if my avatar is showing!... I need another confirmation..Bill in Baltimore has notified me it does not.
Wonder if we could somehow convince say Greta to go along for the tour.
Whitney
Could I ask a favor... Is my avatar showing... Bill in Baltimore has informed me I do not have one, it shows on my screen and trying to figure why not on his.Thanks
It would be Roanoke.
No headline causes more "plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is!" moments than: Demand for Governor Palin's Speech Overwhelms System.....well, other than......Going Rogue #1 on Bestseller's List.....or, Governor Palin Writes "Death Panel"......or Governor Palin Endorses Doug Hoffman.....or, The World Awaits Word on Governor Palin's Hong Kong Speech.......or, Bookstores Not Big Enough to Hold Going Rogue Book Tour Stops........maybe buying stock in Alka Seltzer would be a good thing to look into.
Thanks... now gotta figure out why... it shows on my screen... ummm!
Bestbud, sorry, I don't see your avatar. :(
Put any other Republican's name in this headline: Demand for _________________ Speech Overwhelms the System, and you have a "The Onion" headline.
No!
Even people attending will not be allowed to carry anything -that can record-inside.
http://www.wrn.com/2009/11/palin-comes-to-wisconsin-media-blackout/
The MSM always says that she is either keeping a low profile or trying to stay in the spotlight too much.
CNN is going to complain about how much she'll be on tv later this month.
No, your avatar is missing.
I see it just fine. I'm on a mac and using safari.
RE: Governor Palin's "Right to Life" Speech Tonight here in WI
My two cents:
1) Perfect timing for the Governor to be making this trip to our state. She knows it is a swing state and I assume agreed to this event to attract the Value Voters - Mod Dems and Independents who are Pro-Life.
2) I assume the Governor will specifically address the current Pelosi Health Care Bill which right now DOES INCLUDE Federal Funding for Abortions. The majority of Americans do not agree with that position of federal funding Abortions and this is a winning message to sway the fence sitters.
3) The only way we could secure tickets to this Pro Life event was via website. I have a feeling that the Governor is putting together a very nice mailing list for her future endeavors. :)
Of course, I too will be on my best behavior. My phone will be off, so no pictures will be taken.
Do you think I'm nuts? After I heard Palin packs heat Good Lord, no way!! LMAO
It should be a lot of fun!
Like JeanA, Bill and probably many others, I can't see your avatar either, Bestbud.
Not to be out down by CNN, CBS takes pleasure in taking a few shots of their own. Apparently, CBS is bothered by the fact the organizers will be searching bags, which is normally a standard precautionary procedure – well it is except for when its Sarah Palin.
CBS goes to DNC Wisconsin party chair Mike Tate (and hack) for an opinion, and was quoted to say the restrictions were “bizarre”. No one else was solicited for an opinion. http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/11/06/politics/politicalhotsheet/entry5550240.shtml
Penny
I am hoping we get a transcript of the speech.
k,
Do you have a c4p t-shirt.....if you do maybe you should wear it! lol
Don't know if mine shows to the PC users. I'm using my Blazers logo - what's the verdict guys - are us Mac/Safari users visually incompatible with y'all?
Nancy
Great!! your the best!
Dang it!.. Sarah overwhelms me!... so Im happy as a lark she effects everything she touches!...
I agree with an earlier comment that Sarah will stay until the last book is signed. She'll connect with "We the People." Know who else acts like this? Joe, "You Lie" Wilson. I went to the health-care protest in DC yesterday and then strolled the halls of the various congress cirtters' offices. Joe had a line out the door! He took pix with anyone who asked and was annoying his staff by not moving folks along quick enough. He gave out his card to everyone and chatted like he had all the time in the world.
His office walls were literally covered with pix of famous folks (Reagan is prominently displayed) and he couldn't get another family photo on his already crowded desk. He spoke at the rally and the crowd went wild when he was announced. I'd look for him to have a bright future.
There were lots of people arrested outside/inside Bela Pelosi's office. The cops were carrying out anti-abortion folks (including an 84-yr-old priest). There was a sit-in outside Pelosi's office and at a certain point, the security guards/police wouldn't let anyone near that hallway. Also heard the Code Pinkers were arrested outside Liebermann's office.
A couple of us traveled to DC from central VA and made fast friends with people on the Metro from all over the country. We stood next to a group of ladies from Wyoming (who decided immediately after hearing Michelle Bachman on Hannity's show, that they needed to be there). In our general area we had folks from Ohio, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Mississippi and Texas.
Don't know if John Ratzenburg (sp?), who was "Cliff Claven" on Cheers, got any coverage for his speech at the rally. He was outstanding and very inspiring.
Misc.: Marsha Blackburn is really tiny.
Hey Seth Adam Smith.....
If your reading these posts, maybe you should tag along with Sarah on this "book tour".
I can see a terific documentary about this in your furutre! :-)
riley4palin
WOW!! you are a sooooo fortunate... have a blessed experience!... let us know everything!
Yep- I am going to blog and twitter before the doors open. We will send someone back to our cars to drop off our cell phones right before the doors open.
I will see if I can get pictures and video before the event starts.
My twitter account http://twitter.com/kckenosha
My personal blog: http://steppingrightup.blogspot.com/
I think you can still see it on C-Span
Charter... you called it!
There is no one comparable!!!
This is not a gop event, it is a right to life event. It is up to Wisconsin Right to Life
riley,
I will bet that Sarah will have something very heartfelt about the Ft. Hood shootings. I wish I could hear that.
Instead I had to listen to our CIC s/, speak again this morning. A supposed "big announcement" about the tragedy. Again over in one minute. "will oder to fly flags at half mast"...whatever.
I vow here and now, I will NEVER listen to anything he has to say again! :-(
Riley, If Sarah does mention it, will you please let us know?
Actually Obamas #s in '07 were mid to low 30s. I think what is missing is several key items. a. Who said Sarah is running? b. It is a long way off.
riley,
I'm sure Sarah will have something very heartfelt to say about the Ft Hood shootings. I wish I could hear that.
Instead I listened to our CIC s/, speak for less than a minute...A supposed "big announcement" ......
"! ordered to have flags at half-mast"...whatever.
I vow here and now that I will NEVER listen to anything he ever says again.
riley, if Sarah mentions anything about this tragedy, please let us know.
thanks.
I see a square with a horizontal line in the middle.
Thanks, will do!
I'm on a DELL.
I will have to drive 93 miles to The Villages for book signing, maybe behind 65,000 people, ha, ha, ah.
bitter,
Watched alot of it livestream. It looked terrific.
Mark Levin...classic!
We know how powerful, the Evansville speech turned out, and how prophetic it was in so many ways.
Terri:
The Governor has more class in her pinky finger than everyone in politics today. I am sure the Fort Hood tragic events will be addressed tonight and I'll be happy to report back on Monday.
I can guarantee you she will not need to read off her notes or read a Teleprompter either.
But wait, didn't Aw Shucksabee endorse Hoffman at the last minute? So, he didn't have a big impact either did he! What a moron! Huckabee is a patronizing two-faced backstabber.
I can't see yours Bestbud but I can see Penny's.
Hey, me too Always. Where are you? I'm in Andover (outside Wichita). Salina would be an hour drive. But since I'm not a member of the Salina Chamber of Commerce I have to wait until the general public tickets go on sale Dec. 2nd. Like there will be any left. Ha!
I'm still hopeful I was able to snag two tickets to the College of the Ozarks speech. I put my request in before they shut off. I'm awaiting a post card from them that will tell me one way or another. They said they were sending the cards in mid-Nov.
What's the link that lists all the book tour sites again?
Hey riley
Are you going to try and take pics or audio?
So how's your short hand? How fast can you write? ;)
We will be expecting a full report from you and K Carpenter.
Marsha Blackburn is tiny, but she packs a wallop! She's my favorite home girl.
Kansas will be important? Wow, maybe I can help Sarah :-)
Please. Searching bags would not be considered bizarre at an Obama event. After all, rednecks are out to get him.
When are they going to start to refer to the "polarizing President" as often as they refer to "polarizing Palin."
I'm from Johnson City, TN and it is less than a 3 hour drive. I figure to get up around 4am and drive up. I need directions first.
The dems are carping about the fact that Gov. Palin is keeping a low profile in Wisconsin, they think it strange that the media is barred. Now, if she was giving all kinds of interviews, and had her speech open to the media, they be saying she was just seeking attention. She's going to have a ton of free publicity between Nov 16 and Christmas. It may just turn out to be one of those "carefuly what you wish for, you may get it" moments for the dems.
but, did anyone listen to or care what he said?
I don't know if this is true....but I just saw a tweet that Governor Palin will be speaking at the winter press Gridiron dinner. Here's the tweet:
"Palin just annced as GOP speaker for winter press Gridiron dinner. Dem speaker is Barney Frank." This is from: http://twitter.com/SusanPage
Dems here in WI are really running scared these days. We have a great candidate in Conservative Scott Walker running for Governor (Fred Malek put him on his list of people to watch) because our Dem Governor has run our state into the ground with high unemployment, high taxes, love of government control, and an anti-business philosophy.
With Governor Palin making an appearance today, I bet the Dems are ready to jump into Lake Michigan with no lifeboats.
FYI - Obama just made an appearance in Madison, WI (most liberal part of our state) this past Wednesday at some school with his Education Secretary. Another boondoggle...but really it was to blunt the appearance by Palin today.
At this point I believe the White House has converted the Valerie Jarrett Chicago Olympics office into the Axelrod/Emmanuel Palin Destroy Wing.
RD - here's the link to the C4P post that listed them the other day. However, I don't know whether it is up to date.
http://www.conservatives4palin.com/2009/11/possible-book-tour-stops-for-going.html
hrh - you're not holding your breath, I hope.
Beehive:
I have a good memory. Don't do shorthand though. :) Nope, no pictures or audio are allowed. I believe security will be very tight.
I should have a pretty good summary on Monday.
Bestbud - I can see Penny's avatar; can't see yours; I'm on a Dell / Windows using IE.
That's interesting. I knew 0 was in WI the other day, you're probably right, he'll show up in every single state Gov. Palin's book tour takes her. She's going to run him ragged come 2010 when she gets really serious and starts traveling promoting her new PAC. It will be fun to watch, the president of the US chasing around the country trying to counter a private citizen with a Facebook account.
Look for many, if not most of her stops to turn into impromptu rallies attended by thousands of people with no chance of getting a book signed, they just want to be there to try and catch a glimpse, and to show their support.
GAHanson,
Bean Counter, you beat me to it regarding the "wallop." That was exactly the thought I had.
Bittercliner - thanks for the very informative report. It's inspiring to hear about so many who were inspired to travel from so far to be there.
Sarah in the same room with Barney's Frank..Sarah, be careful, whatever Barney has is contageous..
Palin to be Republican speaker at Gridiron dinner
This is a VERY big deal!
See my post below, Politico is reporting it. And I would assume it to be true. If they invited her, she'd be insane not to go.
Agree. This is HUGE. I wonder why Mittens isn't doing this? He's a riot. /s
Hopefully, Sarah will head on a jet plane after her awesome speech and wake up in DC ! woo-hoo !
We could really use some type of Palin-tracker calendar on the sidebar of C4P. All of the events are getting a bit hard to keep track of.
Pride is the ultimate.
One could lose a fortune but hold on to pride to the bitter end (and beyond).
It's a noble trait, if you're on the right side of things.
But NOT IF YOUR DEAD WRONG !
Barney Frank and Sarah Palin in the same room...actually speaking to one another?
Sarah better wear her waterproof make-up. I expect lots of spittin' going on...lol
Penny, I see your Blazers logo (avatar). How they doin', anyway ?
bestbud, now I'm seeing a "image" placeholder, but not the image itself.
Sarah is immune from Barney's disease :-)
I'm in Kansas City Missouri. She'll be near Springfield for the College of the Ozarks thing in December, IIRC, but I didn't get tix to that one in time either so I hope the book tour comes somewhere nearby. We aren't anywhere near the announced stops yet, but she has to get from Indiana or Minneapolis to New Mexico somehow, and the best way would be over I-70 or down I-35 through KC! If she's avoiding cities, maybe she'd come to of our redder suburbs, like Independence or Liberty. I mean, seriously, how could she not want to come to places called Independence and Liberty? :)
I feel sorry for the front row.
Great! Politico even used a very nice photo of the Guv. Just have to take issue with this tidbit in their story:
Palin has made few public appearances since her unsuccessful campaign for vice president last year....
Au contraire, her campaign was wildly successful, drawing multitudes wherever she appeared. It was the campaign run for and by the top of the ticket that was unsuccessful. Let's keep the record straight.
Not as well as I had hoped for early. Right now it's all about chemistry. The starting line-up has two different players than we finished with last season. It may take some time, but well be just fine after we gel. Thanks for asking.
Although the Blazers are televised playing the Spurs tonight in Portland, I'm more jacked about following Kathy's blog and tweets from Wisconsin. :)
Yes, I am finding sports kind of boring, especially the ESPN drones who
really yap about nothing.
The excitement is on C4P and the History Channel :-)
Just the front row?
Just the Front Row?....Everytime he talks is rains in Colorado...I am growing suspicious!
