Good Morning!
I ate to much....ugh..

Denise J, November 27, 2009 8:12 AM

Good morning to you Mia. Everybody's gone shopping, I suppose.
Pray that the Governor is getting some much needed rest and relaxation.

I finished Going Rogue. It was absolutely fanatastic. I especially am inspired
by the forceful ending. the Governor surely has a clear vision for America that has not and I'm not sure can be matched. She will be a force to be reckoned with on the campaign trail. I'd rather be on her side. Feel sorry for her opponents.

Bill in Baltimore, November 27, 2009 8:13 AM

Nothing profound here, but the affectation for Sarah is simple:

many, many people have lived a life of working hard, raising their family, etc.

- they (like me) are not so abstractly cheering themselves, because she validates what we are
- and, as said earlier this week, "Sarah ? Oh, she's family"

Bill in Baltimore, November 27, 2009 8:14 AM

I've given the book to all family members, and they are all very appreciative of it.

A misleading headline from Politico "Palin Turkey Legacy: Local Farmer's Blues"

http://www.politico.com/click/stories/0911/local_turkey_farmers_blues.html

But some interesting info:

"...Still, Schmidt learned a few valuable lessons from his bird’s-eye view of the Palin media circus. "

"...Yet Schmidt says he went out of their way to clean things up for the governor’s visit, instructing his busy workers to take a break during the event. “We shut down for 40, 50 minutes. I had ‘em all on the clock, paying them,” he says. "

"We put woodchips down to cover the blood that had been leaking on the ground, and fresh chips down in the pen for when the governor walked in there,” he adds. He believes the news crew that originally aired the footage set up the angle for the interview deliberately: “I mean it was cleaned up, and [the local news station] still managed to get that shot.”

“The governor didn’t know it was going on either until it was too late,” concurs Schmidt.

"But next time around, he adds, “I’d be a little more conscious of what the news crews are shooting.”

The conservative movement:

Rush Limbaugh is the brains, Sarah Palin the conscience, and the Tea Party movement its heart.

In transactional analysis Rush is the ADULT, Sarah is the PARENT, and the TP movement is the CHILD.

Take away any one of its components away from the movement and you reduce the effectiveness of the overall movement.

Take away Rush the direction of the movement become less focused, a ship without a rudder and more generic and the goals and purpose of the movement become less crystallized and watered down.

Take away Sarah, the conservative movement forgets why it exists, what stirs its members to get up in the morning, why we love America so much and why it must prevail over liberalism. Sarah provides the 'sizzle' that every great movement needed to succeed.

And take away the TP movement and all conservatism represents is an intellectual exercise than an idea made manifest by sheer numbers.

proves you can never please everyone. i happen to agree with her answers. for instance on iran she basically said time it was to impose a blockade of refined oil products to iran- that has not been tried yet and would be a big step up in pressure. i dont think our country wants to go to war yet and military action does have to be a last resort.

Denise J, November 27, 2009 8:36 AM

First, Sarah Palin hasn't said that she would run for office and at this point shouldn't be out there giving serious policy recommendation. timing is important.

Second, who does this guy thinks has been driving the debate.

Third, Sarah is not going to allow the public nor the media to push her into a box, which is what this article's demands want to do.

Fourth, Sarah Palin has encouraged every American to take up their responsibility to speak out. It's not just left her to her.
So rather than his article criticizing the Governor and setting up false expectations, he could be writing about what he plans to do to speak out and perhaps help stop the healthcare bill. Some people just don't get it. It's always easier to be negative than take the high road and be positive. this is why the Governor is so refreshing because of optimistic outlook.

That's my response. Now.

techno, November 27, 2009 8:37 AM

Let me use one of my sports analogies.

Criticizing Sarah Palin for what she said in her interviews while accomplishing her primary goal (if not hers, then mine) of narrowing the gap in the polls between her and Obama and the other GOP contenders and starting down the road to rehabilitating her image is like criticizing Tiger Woods for winning his first golf tournament of the year by only 1 shot rather than the customary 3 or 4.

An excellent article by Peggy Noonan about cracks in the Obama facade and perhaps that Obama has fallen out of disfavor with the elites:

"...among loyal Democrats in informal settings and conversations. No one LOVES Barack Obama...they're not dazzled and head over heels. That's gone away. He himself seems a fairly chilly customer, perhaps in turn he inspires chilly support..."

Sounds something that Rush Limbaugh could have said but it was actually Peggy Noonan who wrote this today.

A great insight into LIBERAL elites by Lee Siegel:

"As a political prospect, Palin is terrifying; as someone who embodies an American story, she is fascinating. She is Huck Finn in reverse. Instead of fleeing civilization and lighting out for the territory, she started in the territory and lit out for civilization. What she discovered is that civilization--our politics, and our media--is even more feral, less bound by morality, and more unforgiving than the wilderness she had come from. We know this dirty little secret of civilization theoretically--cynicism about everything is our American meat and milk. But we rarely come across a public person whose experience of it is so raw and uncontrolled."

"Sometimes it seems as though Palin was being punished for realization about what passes for civilized behavior. Just because she and some of her sleaziest defenders absurdly blame her downfall on "liberal persecution" doesn't mean that liberals didn't seize on her outsiderness once she stumbled and pounce all over her."

"True outsiders often discombobulate the liberal mind. THE SOURCE OF LIBERAL VALUES IS THE IDEA THAT LIFE'S QUICK CHANGES MAKE US ALL FUNDAMENTALLY OUTSIDERS, AND THAT ANY SOCIAL AND POLITICAL ARRANGEMENT HAS TO TAKE THE OUTSIDER, NOT THE COZY INSIDER, AS ITS MORAL STARTING POINT. But powerful liberals are rarely outsiders, and so true outsiders shake their sense of self. Plenty of liberals must have felt a few minutes of alarm when Sarah Palin first appeared on the scene and challenged their authenticity. Then she imploded, and they tore her apart, perhaps in savage relief at finding their virtuous identities still intact."

"But all the piling-on seems to me intended to cancel out her humanity. She is being turned into an object...her very presence has exposed a certain ugly atttiude among the liberal elites that has always cast a long shadow over liberal politics."

"...liberal intellectual Lionel Trilling put it well. 'We must be aware of the dangers which lie in our most generous wishes. Some paradox of our nature leads us, when once we have made our fellow men the objects of our enlightened interest. to go on to make them the objects of our pity, then of our wisdom, ultimately of our coercion.'"

Your bullet point fits this question by Greta.

What it means to have substance?

Greta asked Rove: "How do you show substance?"
Rove said: " You show substance by talking about it; by offering interesting ideas; by commenting about current events in a way that people find revealing of your leadership skills; and by charting a course, setting a theme, and charting a course for what you want the country to go that people will find attractive."
I spoke with a guy who is running for congress said he wanted to hear more substantive things from Sarah. I collected a ton of topics she'd spoken on and about as well as her accomplishments. I even collected quotes from those who have some say, higher ups, regarding the substantive policy contained in Going Rogue. So this was something specific I added to my collection. She'll still get criticized although she been already putting out and charting a course. It's that her charting is simple and most will miss it cause they are used to mumbo jumbo lingo that makes them feel all intellectual and stuff. So much for the talking heads.

defendAmerica, November 27, 2009 10:10 AM

i dont think rush has a much power as you are giving him. at the moment he is a voice, but surely not the brains.

Sarah has learned that history is the brains, and she is taking full advantage.

The tea party movement is the heart

And right now, Sarah is the emerging voice.

defendAmerica, November 27, 2009 10:12 AM

He was joking. He was saying sexist things that liberals say all the time, but he knew he'd be slammed for saying, so he said them in joking and even set it all up for a joke- you need to listen to it in context. Beck loves Palin, and has since long before she was selected to run as VP.

What the Republicans must eliminate or neutralize to win the 2010 election:

1) The divide and conquer strategy of the Dems and the MSM

2) Internecine warfare

3) White guilt and the praising of Obama

4) fifth columnists and quislings

5) different or diverse messages that create disunity in the party or amongst conservatives

6) GOP candidates or their operatives sniping at each other

7) the need to pander to the MSM

8) identity politics

9) ACORN

10) Obama's advantage over the Internet and various high-tech tools

Did you listen to Rush's CPAC speech on Feb 28 when he laid out what a conservatives thinks and believes and where conservative ideas originate. Don't fall into the trap and think that Rush is just an "entertainer"! Rush is a brilliant thinker and the proof of his prowess survey after survey prove he has one of the smartest audiences in talk radio. Listen to how he engages his callers on an intellectual basis. Yes, he is the brains behind the conservative movement generally; however in reality Levin, Hannity and other fill that role as well but Rush is the king of the mountain.

And don't for any minute doubt that Sarah got a huge boost in her SarahPAC donations after Rush's speech.

BetseyRoss, November 27, 2009 10:36 AM

Gee, thanks for reminding me how old I really am. As I recall and I can't be very specific, it was popular when I was in high school. That had to be just about the time that Alaska became a state.

defendAmerica, November 27, 2009 10:58 AM

yeah i was there front and center, row 2, for rush's cpac speech.

I don't think that Rush is merely an entertainer, but I also don't think I can buy into the meme that he is the sole "brains" of the conservative movement, nor do I believe that Levin and Hannity add much depth to the movement.

They are great foot soldiers out there spreading the message and encouraging the troops, but not the sole source of ideology for the movement. I listen to Rush and Levin almost everyday. Hannity is a republican with conservative leanings, no matter what he ways. All you need to do is listen to him for a while.

I think that this blanket statement regarding Rush cheapens the ideas in the movement coming from other powerful thinkers.

What a great day yesterday. Today I still have a few family members here. Had a great run this morning in right at 40 degree temp. Wonderfully chilly for my part of the country in Nov.

Hubby went to ACE to get a few doorbusters, that is the extent of our shopping today. I have already done most of my shopping online this year!

Hope the guv is resting her voice for the big second half of her book tour next week.

Can't wait to finish the book myself. I am on the second chapter.....I am inhaling it slowly and deeply. I have no idea why the McCain camp did not write up some good pieces on how she ran the city of Wasilla in her mayor days. She has so much more experience and insight into executive leadership and accomplishments than Obama has, good grief, what a horrible job they did and I have not even gotten to the Governor part. No wonder those people are cya'ing up a storm. They screwed up royally.

AmeriCuda, November 27, 2009 11:27 AM

Sarah is the JUDGEMENT. People must trust that the president will make the right decisions concerning the country and their families. Obama has failed miserably with his ideological narcissism.
Currently, the majority of people do not believe SP is qualified to be president. Most, however, believe she is honest and has the country's best interest at heart. That is what will win her the election.

ChillinInMN, November 27, 2009 11:43 AM

Remember the little graph that was posted here on C4P yesterday? Well, I decided to hell with it and posted it on my Facebook (do you realize how many "libs" there are in MN????????) I am new to this whole speaking out on things political because ignorance was bliss to me before. Anyway, I have a lot of relatives in Denmark that I'm friends with on FB. One cousin is so totally into this "Global Warming" stuff and belongs to organizations. The Dane relatives just think the world of Obama. This cousin was gushing a few weeks ago that O was in Copenhagen for the Olympics thing (remember?). I made the comment then that they could just do us the favor and "Keep him." ha-ha.

Back to what I was saying. I posted this pic and sure enough one of the Danes made a comment. Here it is below and also my response:

Dane Relative: Hello (my name).... Are your Presidents building Chimneys?? I can see, that mr. Obama just started a year ago.;-) Besides he will soon be in Copenhagen again.Yesterday at 12:54pm · Delete
My Response this a.m.: ha-ha! Yes chimney builders, you can see O is behind. It's a darn shame really. Perhaps he could use lessons in "Masonry" that experienced, savy & wise business people would bring to the table. Lessons in Capitalism, the foundation to what makes the engine of the U.S. hum along. Lessons in freedom instead of heavy-handed government holding down government holding down entrepreneurial minds and ideas to help pull us out of this, The Great Recession. -- But somehow I'm thinking this chimney above is not THE priority to this young POTUS. (Recommending the book: The 5000 Year Leap)
So far I'm not feeling the "Hope" thing, but I am thinking he's delivering on the "Change" part. -- perhaps he can "change" my mind in the next 36 months? We shall see. In the mean time, enjoy his visit to Denmark, as he gives good speeches. :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How's that? I could have said many things. Sometimes those europeans have lived so long under socialism they have no clue what being an American is all about. Sarah gets it - and I get Sarah.
KeeleyH, November 27, 2009 11:55 AM
I think one of the reasons Obama said he may not run for re-election in 2012 is because he fears he won't have ACORN to assist him.
People are not getting it as a joke. Some commenters/haters even think Sarah actually said she wanted Beck as her VP and he dissed her. They think she made another gaffe.
Beck may be in the tank for her. But he's got a big mouth. Sarah should distance herself from him. He's going to cause her a lot of trouble in the future, "inadvertently". Let Beck do his thing attacking Obama. But I hope Sarah doesn't get too cozy with him.
I appreciate the work Beck has been doing exposing Obama, but I hate to say this, getting too cozy with Glenn Beck is "unpresidential".
I think it would be great if Sarah could explain how energy development benefits a country in economic terms. She could say that, for instance, right now, energy develop is x percent of GDP. And then she could say that if we ramped up development, we could grow GDP by approximately x percent. Then she could talk about how other countries like Russia and Brazil are ramping up development of their energy resources.
I think she has the big picture really strong, if she could break it down for the rest of us dummies. :)
Bill of Baltimore asked about The Tricities. At the risk of stealing Neo's thunder, may I say a few words?
Richland WA is at the confluence of the Snake and America's largest river, the Columbia. The site was chosen for the Manhatten project to produce the material for the atomic bomb which ended WW II. Sarah's grandfather was one of an army of people who moved to this desert area to work on the Hanford Reservation where the N1 reactor was built. (yes there is desert in WA which extends into British Columbia, Canada. Canada has a desert.)
Sarah's mother was raised here and met Sarah's father here at Columbia Basin Community College. As you know, Sarah's aunt still lives here and an uncle lives near me in Ellensburg, WA, where, I believe, he was a judge.
Sarah has many more ties to The Coumbia Basin than to Idaho, but she will always be known as coming from the Gem State, where she was born when her parent's moved to finish college.
Four people who write here have ties to this area. Manajordan, Neo, Law, and my self, although there may be others.
The Tricites are Pasco, Kennewick, and Richland. Richland has one of the highest ratios of PhD's per capita in the USA, with people working at Hanford, which is the Los Alamos of the Pacific Northwest.
There are many here on C4P who like football. The Richland High School has one of most politically incorrect nicknames in the USA. http://www.richlandbombers.org/ They are the Bombers and their logo is the mushroom cloud of the atomic bomb.
Manajordan is a proud bomber.
You you can dazzle your friends with your knowledge. It's good to dazzle.
Sarah has many more ties to The Coumbia Basin than to Idaho, but she will always be known as coming from the Gem State, where she was born when her parent's moved to finish college.
Four people who write here have ties to this area. Manajordan, Neo, Law, and my self, although there may be others.
The Tricites are Pasco, Kennewick, and Richland. Richland has one of the highest ratios of PhD's per capita in the USA, with people working at Hanford, which is the Los Alamos of the Pacific Northwest.
There are many here on C4P who like football. The Richland High School has one of most politically incorrect nicknames in the USA. http://www.richlandbombers.org/ They are the Bombers and their logo is the mushroom cloud of the atomic bomb.
Manajordan is a proud bomber.
Bill of Baltimore asked about The Tricities. At the risk of stealing Neo's thunder, may I say a few words?
Richland WA is at the confluence of the Snake and America's largest river, the Columbia. The site was chosen for the Manhatten project to produce the material for the atomic bomb which ended WW II. Sarah's grandfather was one of an army of people who moved to this desert area to work on the Hanford Reservation where the N1 reactor was built. (yes there is desert in WA which extends into British Columbia, Canada. Canada has a desert.)
yes...we did that one year...but I like the oven baked better. You can't get that smell in the house from deep frying!....It's the smell that makes it Thanksgiving! ;)
HOLLY CRAP.. Tiger Woods is seriously injured in car accident....Prays ...Oh Geez!
Wait until she declares her run.
If she starts with specific policies now, opponents and even BO, will take her ammo and make it theirs, take all the credit, and act like they'll actually do those things. The difference is they won't, and she will. But the average voter won't know that.
Keep your powder dry says the gov. Also, trust me.
Andrew Halcro reads Going Rogue on video. To quote Hot Air, "What could go wrong?"
IIRC, Sarah's grandfather was a nuclear physicist at Hanford.
Penny, November 27, 2009 3:26 PM
It doesn't count for much, but I'm another C4Per with a little tie to the area in that I spent 2 1/2 years living in Sunnyside after high school, 50 (?) miles, towards Yakima, from Richland. Bored. To. Tears.
PEC, November 27, 2009 3:31 PM
Old Martin hit piece article. Bottom-line Sarah didn't know or agree with all of McCain's issues. Once again the sloppy journalists Martin trying to make something that isn't there.
He's been treated and released
America's largest river, the Columbia..
Umm, gelston, ever heard of the Yukon? <vbg></vbg>
Sapwolf, November 27, 2009 4:15 PM
My nephew, his wife and two boys live just 15 miles west in Posser.
Sapwolf, November 27, 2009 4:18 PM
The Mississippi-Missouri is the third longest river in the world. Now, if you are talking about the amount of water that the Columbia pours into the Pacific, that might be quite significant if it flows at a faster pace, meaning more water uses it.
Sapwolf, November 27, 2009 4:19 PM
One thing I have learned about Halcro after all these months is that he is pretty disturbed and really has not amounted to much in his life. I believe he inherited most of his wealth and he comes of as being psycho.
I go out for a few hours and I come back to this. What is proves it doesn't matter if you're a superstar or not anything is possible.
I always wonder why these rich superstars don't have a chauffeur on duty 24 hours a day. Why drive a car yourself?
And that goes also for Sarah too. I hope she seriously thinks about not driving any longer. When your on the highways and byways no one knows who you are. Spend the money.
AmeriCuda, November 27, 2009 4:35 PM
Ever since she threw cold water on his 3rd party nonsense he has been mildly dismissive of her.
Throughout his career, Beck has been a self-saboteur, let's hope history is not repeating itself.
He has done the country a great service by getting the truth out about this administration.
Lets hope he gets it together soon.
Another example of divide and conquer.
It's hard to believe that anybody could take the focus off the Going Rogue tour but Tiger Woods could. Fortunately he appears to be all right. I always compare him to Sarah because in their field of endeavor they are without peer. However, they are both human and mortal. Pray for both of them.
Here's one example of his 'humor' that, to me, sounded as though he felt dissed,
In an interview with Gretchen Carlson Palin spoke about a possible Palin-Beck or Beck-Palin ticket. "I got a kick out of it, and he probably thought that was just a hoot too. I don’t know. We’ll see, we’ll see."
“I don’t think things are hoots," Beck said. “I don't. I don’t think it’s a hoot. I would never use the word hoot and I respectfully ask that every time my name is brought up she stops using the word ‘hoot.’"
North to Alaska was the opening track on "Johnny Horton's Greatest Hits," which my dad had, too. We loved it as kids. My sister found it on cassette and sent it to me years ago. More recently I found the CD, and it's on my iPod. No kidding. Loved hearing North to Alaska played at some of Sarah's rallies a year ago while I listened via the internet.
Reminds me of some of the other songs on that album: Whispering Pines; Sink the Bismarck; When it's Springtime in Alaska; The Battle of New Orleans; Jim Bridger; Comanche; Johnny Freedom; others. Good stuff.
That was back when it was politically correct to love America and its historical figures.
CharterOakie, November 27, 2009 5:03 PM
Cruela - love the leftovers for a couple days, then basta, enough.
onexsturtle, November 27, 2009 5:56 PM
Ok. Thanks. I was getting a little worried there. I told him off last night on Twitter. Dan Riehl posted a comment about it with an audio clip, so that just made me upset to hear something like that. Glad it was a joke though. Still, it was a bad joke.
gelston the knowitall, November 27, 2009 6:27 PM
you are 100% correct, I was referring to the lower 48.
gelston the knowitall, November 27, 2009 6:29 PM
I was going by water flow. Yes, you are correct.
The Columbia has a tremenous variation in it's flow related to the large run-off in the spring followed by the long, dry summers.
juju, November 27, 2009 7:35 PM
That is one of my favorite pics of Sarah....she looks like a free bird about to soar. I love that pic.
juju, November 27, 2009 7:37 PM
Plus he knows that he won't get a free pass the next time. Reporters will be forced to look into his background. And, maybe some have already and they are holding their fire.
Bill in Baltimore, November 27, 2009 8:41 PM
panchita, I've been out all day. Thanks for the clip.
It's unbelievable to what lengths they will go to smear her. But then again, not so much.
When people like Keith Olbermann and this dork Richard Wolfe make fun of her, it makes me realize she and we are on the right track.
Bill in Baltimore, November 27, 2009 8:49 PM
gelston, thanks so much for the explanation of Tri-Cities.
Gotta love the Richland bombers and their logo !
hooi4theGuv, November 27, 2009 10:28 PM
Gelston, thanks so much for the history and geography!
I'm going to save this contribution of yours.
Recovering Democrat, November 28, 2009 12:00 AM
Hrh, I think you are SO right. And lest we forget: Barack Obama got elected without ever showing substance.
Sarah will wait until she declares and rip her opponents apart in the debates.
PEC, November 28, 2009 12:28 AM
The guy is stuck on stupid. Young is going to own the old school Republicans. Too many favors. That leaves him competing for the Palin Republicans. Hmm. Let me stab her in the back. HE will be lucky to get 20% of votes in the Primaries. The guy has no brain.
CharterOakie, November 28, 2009 3:24 PM
Far be it from me to quibble with an Alaskan on this point, but assuming "that old white mountain" is an allusion to Mt. McKinley, it is in fact southeast of Nome, albeit not "just a little." I suspect that the line "just a little southeast of Nome" was intended as irony, pointing to both the vastness of Alaska and the toughness and determination of those who trekked the distances. That interpretation would be in keeping with the "aw-heck-it's-not-too-hard-for-an-American" tone in which some of Horton's songs celebrated the American 'can do' spirit. Undoubtedly the song takes lyrical license regarding where the gold was discovered. But the mental pictures work well for those of us "on the outside" for whom Mt. McKinley and the Yukon river are likely the first things we picture when thinking of Alaska... well, prior to our introduction to Sarah, anyway. : )
