Going Rogue in Cincinnati After Some Issues in Noblesville; Updated: Problems in Noblesville Staged?



Governor Palin's Going Rogue book tour was in Cincinnati today for another book signing event.

The next stop for Governor Palin is Columbus, Ohio where some folks have been waiting in line since last night. Yesterday evening in Noblesville, the overwhelming response to the book tour resulted in some logistical problems and, consequently, there was not enough time to sign everyone's copy of Going Rogue. Columbus, in an attempt to prevent a similar occurrence, is reducing the number of available writsbands. Governor Palin posted the following Facebook Note regarding last night's difficulties in Indiana:

The response on this book tour has been overwhelming. We are truly humbled, and I thank you.

I've been told that yesterday there were supporters in Noblesville who stood in long lines for hours in the cold and rain, and the book signing event ended without a chance to say hello to everyone who showed up. I am so sorry. We are working on a solution for those who were left behind.

I think the way they should do this signing thing is to concentrate on allowing the people to meet Palin. I think the people are there more to see Palin and meet her up close than to get a signature. If they want a signature they can contribute to SarahPac. I say cut down on the number of "free" signatures to something reasonable for Palin and allow more time for the people to meet Palin up close. A simple handshake from Sarah would mean the world to many and would make it worthwhile. The last thing that we want is to see this book tour lose steam because of this focus on getting a signature from Sarah. Let the folks meet Sarah!

<span><span>Just in from the Cincinnati book signing and it was a very pleasant experience! Gov Palin arrived on time on the upper floor of the independant bookstore Joseph Beth (one of my top ten happy places in the world) carrying Trig before a crowd and media assembled on the lower floor. I can't say what the crowd size was but I do know that the store went through 2 rounds of the alphabet with 50 people per letter... People were very happy and responsive to her! She came down to the landing with a microphone halfway and gave some gracious and humble opening remarks. She was enthused! She had on a red boxy style jacket, black pencil skirt and knee high spike high heeled black boots. She proceeded up to her table behind the draping and the VIPs(?) were the first asked to ascend the steps. The media were all over the wide staircase and base,and from what I could tell all local, but many outlets. Then they started to call the letters one at a time. We found seats at a table in the cooking section and chatted with people. From there we went into the cafe for a drink. The process was a little slow at first becasue of personal photo taking so it was announced no photos. They had a pro there to take one or two for you. I have not checked the site yet... After getting a sense of the pace we orderd lunch. We could see the full view of the line but had to check periodically for the letter. We were H. After lunch we basically had a ten minute wait in line to ascend the stairs. Very smooth.We each had 2 books to sign (full retail). She was working it:) Had a little one give her a coloring book picture right in front of me so I got to see her interact with the boy which was just like any other effusive mom. Knowing how many were behind us and that she needed to be in Columbus for another signing made me feel a bit sad it all had to be so assembly line. I had never waited on line for such an event before. I had two books which was permitted. I asked her if the book was going to be made into a movie. I cannot remember her exact response. I added that I had two in Hollywood that would love to develop it. She smiled and asked me my name and extended her hand for a handshake. I replied Thank you, Sarah. I had addressed her as Gov earlier. She really worked fast but was also mindful and attentive. I have some photos to upload. The crowd was large, polite, conversant and fairly even men to women, young to old. Country music played overhead. Coats and handbags had to be checked for security purposes. One man was in colonial garb and I have his picture. I saw a little girl with Downs in a stroller. I don't post much but wanted to give something back to this wonderful community here. Will post a photo and possible vid link later.</span></span>

addendum: have read 200 did not get through the line and will be given signature plates for the book. I certainly think that the presale and reservation of line numbers was a less stressful way to manage the crowds. I admore the people who commit so much time and energy to camp out especially in poor weather!

Or...they could take names, address and pay for signed book to be mailed.  It would be a great list for Sarah to have for future use.

Tsk.. an unforced error. Need to minimize this as the media will use it as a weapon. Even if all of the wristband holders that were left out receive a signed book over the mail it still would not be the same as meeting her.
Other wise, she is doing great!

I dont know when she gets any sleep, or avoids carpal tunnel syndrome I guess shee needs the endurance she trains for in running. This is a training camp for the up comming 2010 grueling campaign (if she chooses to campaign for other candidates).

I wish she would made a stop in California.

I often marvel at how the panel IGNORES all of Sarah Palin's accomplishments. They act like she has none and is popular for no particular reason other then people identify with her. I expect this kind of thing from other network pundits, but not from the panel. I will help you out, please share these FACTS with the panel.

1. Sarah took on corruption in her own party and risked her career in politics doing it. Name one politician who has done this that is currently serving. By the way, has Obama asked Charlie Rangel to step aside? NO, they are in the same party after all.

2. Sarah cut the budget in the Alaska which is unheard of. She saved money when the oil money was flowing in so now when the oil price dropped they are not cutting police or education or raising taxes to balance the budget. How are New York and California doing by the way on their budgets? How is Obama doing with his deficit projections? 9 trillion right?

3. Sarah TOOK ON THE MOST POWERFUL COMPANIES IN THE WORLD, the big oil companies to make sure Alaskans were getting a fair shake and SHE WON. Has Obama bucked the big labor unions in a similar fashion? Or the trial lawyers?

4. Sarah negotiated a natural gas pipeline deal that will result in the largest construction project in North America which will produce REAL JOBS and will provide CLEAN energy to the lower 48. Has Obama ever...oh never mind, its obvious he has not done anything like this and neither has anyone else who currently serves.

<span>Bret</span>, I cold go on and on and on. Please share these FACTS with your panel. Charles is a smart man, but he has no idea what this woman has accomplished. This is just a short sample. These 4 things are greater then anything Obama and Biden have ever accomplished in their lives. Yet, they are in the White House and Mara and Charles give her no credit other then being a "rock star." What a shame.

Publisher HarperCollins said Friday that Sarah Palin's memoir sold 300,000 copies its first day, among the best openings ever for a nonfiction book. In 2004, Bill Clinton's "My Life" debuted with sales of 400,000 copies. The year before, Hillary Rodham Clinton's "Living History" started at 200,000.

<span>"Going Rogue" was released this week and its print run already has been increased from 1.5 million copies to 2.5 million, HarperCollins announced Friday</span>. Palin, the former Alaska governor and GOP vice presidential candidate, is in the midst of a nationwide promotional tour.

I don't know if this has been said or refuted before, so please don't hit me. But it looks to me like Campaign 2012 has begun, and Sarah is getting a big head start on the rest ofthe field.

I'm 1/4 way through the book and loving it. Some ROFL parts. Several knife twists delivered with a smile. Very good so far.

My book was supposed to come today via usps from amazon.com..STILL WAITING..its already almsot 5pm, I dont think its coming today, it said estimated arrival 11/20 thats today!! Still nothing, I call USPS, they dont answer the phone, I am so pissed, I wanted to start reading it today. Didnt Obama say the health care system he will provide will be as good as USPS, well thanks a lot obama, they cant even deliver a book right

I think I posted a link to an article on the VIPs. Cincy IIRC. Sarah has contacted some, invited them to meet prior to the public, or they get to the front of the line. I think there was a SarahPAC event, with VIPs in Cincy beforehand. 

VIPs include local Republican officeholders, county chair, national committee, maybe key money givers or raisers. It may vary with locations.

It is almost like she is planning to run for a national office.

The special needs FSA issue is important. <span>I suggest a c4p post</span> on that.

The $14,000 amount is not nearly to highest it can cost. Not nearly. Not even in the ballpark.  In unusual cases, the cost per year can be 10 times that, or much more.

Some of this is technical tax law stuff. For now, I would phrase it as a  a question, such as:

Will health care reform raise taxes on families with special needs children?

If so, what will the money raised by taxing families of special needs children pay for?

Will it be used to subsidize the abortion industry? If so, why? What is the policy reason for doing this?

If I may add to your great post. I'm tired of hearing them say she's not doing anything since resigning that indicates she's serious about running. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Are they purposely being obtuse?

She is the only one who has taken on Obama's insane policies; she's speaking out against them, offering better solutions and fighting Congress, too. What the hell has Charles done to change the course our country is on? Write op-eds? That's his big contribution?

She's taking rocks and arrows for fighting this administration, and the snobs on that panel just sniff and "tsk-tsk; she's not serious." They give a new definition to pointy-headed intellectuals. They sit on their asses and do nothing but criticize.

I am not a fan of Teddy Roosevelt, but was he ever right when he wrote The Man in the Arena.  It's perfectly describes CK, Mara and others who continue to criticize her. It's a rather long speech, but the most pertinent portion of it is here:

The Governor's answers need to be vague. She is not, I repeat NOT the president at this time. That is a courtesy. If she decides to run she will still not give her hand to the enemy.

The Governor did really great. She even interpreted Bill, she sat up in her chair a few times and spoke with tremendous passion.

Great interview and truly refreshing.

I wast at the Noblesville, Indiana event last night until about 9:30 or so.  I was one of the people who did not get to meet Sarah.  My wife and I stood in line for a long while.  There were about 300-400 people who had wristbands who did not gt to have Sarah sign their books also.

I don't believe the event at the end was staged at all.  I was there with the same people for many hours and we all assumed we would get to meet Sarah.  There were a few very immature people there at the end.  One girl was ripping pages out of her booka nd throwing them in the air.  several others wanted to return their books to Borders.  The store had closed so some were not let in to do so.

Overall it was a great evening.  We did get to see Sarah as she welcomed the crowd as she initially arrived on her bus.  She spoke for 3-5 minutes tops.

There were about 2500-3000 people there in all.  there were 1000 bracelets passed out and each person with a bracelet was allowed to hvae a guest with them.

The scene at the very end was unfortunate.  it could hvae easily been dealt with in a more classy manner that is for sure.  For example, Sarah could have at least said thanks to all teh people who had waited like we did for hours in the cold and rain.  It would have taken 2-4 minutes at the most. It wold have been the right way to deal with it.  Just a quick than you to all the people who had waited all that time.

I understand that she had a schedule to keep.  That is how the deal works.  MOst people were not understanding about that.  At some point she just has to get on the bus and go to the next stop.  I get that.  Still, a thank you message to close it out takes a couple minutes and then allows people to feel like it was somwhoe worth the trip.  We drove 3 hours to see her and many others did the same.

She owed us nothing.  I understand that as well. Alot of folks left with a bad taste in their mouth and I am sure that is not what Sarah had in mind. I don't for the life of me believe that was her desired outcome.

In her book, she talks a lot obout being handled on the campaign.  She talks how the campaign director and higer ups shut her down at every turn.

The way I figure it, she is ultimately in charge of every detail of the book signing tour.  The buck stops with her on this tour.  She can't blame publishers or bookstores or security guys.  She is on her own now and she had a chance to do the right thing and send the people off with hospitality.  It is kind of a Hoosier-thing I guess, the Hoosier Hospitality.

And so while I understand timelines and schedules and bus tours, the problem needs to be fixed.  And that right soon.

I wish Sarah the best of luck on the tour and in the future as I have always been and remain a huge fan and supporter.  The Noblesville incident in no way changed my mind about Sarah.  I am sure she will fix the problem so everyone will feel appreciated int he future.

A bigger problem in my view was the AP story that came out about the event.  On the way home I received a call from my sister-in-law who lives in Sitka, Alaska.  She and my brother had a chance to meet Sarah and Todd last Summer as they visited them in Unalakleet, AK.  Anyway, my sister-in-law, Jennifer Davis, told me that the AP had a story in the Sitka paper about the book signing in Noblesville.  The headline was "Hundreds wait in line to see Sarah."  What a joke.  Hundreds?  Classic AP story.

I was there personally and I know there wre at lease 2500 people there to see Sarah.  I have been around athletics as an athleitc director and coach for many years. I usually have a very accurate guess as to how many people are in a given crowd.

All in all it was a great evening for my wife rhoda [...]

I am gratified to see that Palin's staff is on top of this. I do not doubt that Axelrod's people will stoop to no low end to throw a monkey wrench into this tour, but it is the better part of valor to assume that some Registered Voters were pissed off. Always think of Customer Service in Retail Politics. Never Blame the Voter.

This mindset will be vital when Iowa and New Hampshire come 'round.

The only people who read the Washington Independent Online are lefties and Andrew Sullivan. That rag is for people who think Sarah Palin has horns. It IS worth monitoring (for the angry wingnuts meme, for example-that's just lefties trying to migrate a story into the State Run Media), but their content is partisan oatmeal. I'm not surprised that Sullivan cites them at all.
