Going Rogue in Columbus; UPDATED and Bumped: Video Added ,Governor Palin Signs Everyone's Books

In an earlier post we reported on some problems Governor Palin had in Noblesville, Indiana due to there being a large number of people and not enough time to sign all of their books. In anticipation of encountering similar problems yesterday in Columbus, the number of wristbands was limited to 500 instead of the previously planned 1,000. A woman and her daughter, who were number 67 in line, describe their experience with Governor Palin:

When Governor Palin finished signing books for those 500 folks who had wristbands, she went rogue and ran outside to invite those gathered in the parking lot to come in so she could sign their books too. This caused a great deal of excitement and the Governor's invitation was accepted with notable enthusiasm, causing her security detail to rush her back inside with alacrity. Governor Palin was very gracious and stayed until everyone's books were signed.

C4P reader Tara was in Columbus yesterday for the book signing event. She provided us with the following first hand account of the event, including the wristband issue:

If we're going to place blame, it's on Borders. They didn't tell people until the next morning about the cut in wristbands, and in fact store management called in the local police to reveal it to the back end of the line because they were worried about backlash. I was in the first group of 100, so I didn't stick around long enough after receiving mine to see if there would be problems (as I was driving away, I saw a cop addressing a section of the line). I did ask, though, when I went back later for the actual event if there were issues and the store worker said no, but that people were "understandably upset." The entire management of the event was, I thought, lacking - speaking as someone who went to numerous Harry Potter midnight release parties, Barnes & Noble was much more organized - at least their wristbands were numbered. Borders had them color coded, so while you could be first in line to get a wristband, you could be last in line for your 100 group section later in the day (the bands were various colors - blue first, red second, etc).

Anyway, the crowd that was there for the event was still in very good cheer - even those who didn't have wristbands (in a separate line), and a lot of them I recognized from the campout the night before. I think that people understood she couldn't stay there until midnight signing books, and were more irritated at Borders for not telling them until almost 10am the next morning.

She was amazing and so much more gorgeous in person. Even though she doesn't personalize the signatures, she really makes you feel like you're the only one waiting to have a book signed when you get up to the table. She asked my name, said she loved my shirt (it's a Reagan shirt), and shook my hand and thanked me for my support - very personable, and I'd rather have that than my name in marker inside her book. Also, she started the signing early, about 5:40 instead of 6, so I really do think she's making every effort to sign as many as she can before they usher her out at 9pm. An extra 20 minutes may not sound like much, but when you've got a maximum of 45-60 seconds with her, that's a fair amount of extra people she can get through the line.

Keep up the awesome work, guys. You're my go-to Palin site. She's the real deal, and I'm almost afraid of the faith that I have in her because politicians always let us down, don't they? But there's something special about Sarah. Her aunt was there as people exited the signing area, she had bookmarks and introduced herself as Sarah's aunt, and I just had to ask for a hug and told her how amazing her neice is, that she's a real gift not just to our country, but to the world.

Tara

Governor Palin's next stop is at 11:00 AM this morning in Washington, Pennsylvania where people have been waiting since yesterday. By the way, yesterday Harper Collins announced they were increasing Going Rogue's print run from 1.5 to 2.5 million copies.

Update by Doug: Last night in Columbus, Governor Palin began signing books early and stayed late to make sure everyone who waited in line had a chance to meet her and get their books signed. Let's go to the video:

More here, including pictures and video.

Update II by Doug: C4P Reader and Commenter "defendAmerica" was in Columbus last night for the book signing. DefendAmerica was one of those who didn't have one of the initial 500 wristbands and provides this firsthand account:

At 8:30 the end of the wristbanded people had made it to Sarah. They told us she was going to need a 5 minute "personal break" and then would decide how many more could come in or if she was done. The manager said she was either gonna sign more, or she was going to come out and apologize for not being able to get to everyone and thank us for coming.

THEN, all of a sudden, she walked out through the doors surrounded by security. The people in line went crazy, yelling her name and cheering. She waved for a second and then said, "Oh, what the heck come on in". The people rushed toward her and were stopped and put back in line by the Borders staff.

She stayed until about 9:20 PM and finished the 200-300 people left in the line.

I got my book signed and then came out and met Sapwolf who was out there holding signs. We went around back and watched her get in her bus and then ran around to the front to wave and cheer as the bus drove off.

She was again, generous and gracious. I thanked her for using her voice to defend us. She asked me where I was from and how long I had been waiting. She commented on my cold hand when she shook it, and I told her she was worth it. She also commented on my t-shirt that said, "Sarah Palin Rogue 2012".

If anyone is interested to read the article in our local newspaper (Columbus, OH), about the event yesterday, here it is:

http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/local_news/stories/2009/11/21/palin21.ART_ART_11-21-09_A1_TDFOFBK.html?sid=101

The article is on the front page of the paper today!!!!! You must understand that Columbus OH is not getting visits from the STARS. We only get the OSU football games :) It is quite a Big Deal for Central Ohio. I like to see that someone gave Sarah the Buckeye necklace – it is our signature present.

I was at the book store yesterday morning. The management did good job of organizing the event. I did not get the bracelet, but I got the book and reading it.

hey admin, today on Fox and Friends they had Lady Lynn Rothchild (a Hillary supporter who then supported Sarah) as well as Carly Fiorina on, and they were discussing the double standard on Sarah.  If  you could possibly find it and post it?  Your other readers will appreciate it, it was a very good segment. Thanks.

Great accounts by those present.  That's the GuvWeLuv, going rogue and above and beyond in order to serve those "outside" waiting in the parking lot, not just those fortunate few "inside,"  Love it!

Sarah loves America, and America loves Sarah.

Sarah knows the art and practice of retail politics.
The mother and daughter in the video indicated that Sarah "made us feel like we were the only people in the room."

Sarah's authenticity and humility with the American voter is a stark contrast to the egotistical and conceited politicians all of whom have dominated the political landscape for the last 20 years.

So sorry.  I mentioned in a couple quick posts that I was having the most demanding couple of weeks at the office in many months.  Frustrating that I couldn't comment more often during this wonderful, exciting week.  Had my hands full just trying to keep up with the interviews and articles.

Thank goodness for C4P!

And now I'm well into Going Rogue, so that will occupy time and attention, too.  GREAT READ!

Sweet of you to miss me, bella, amica mia.

Smart woman. This is a natural politician who "gets" her customer base. She's doing everything she can to accomodate the registered voters who are coming out to see her and waiting in line so to do.

Well done, Governor.

HOWEVER, a warning to any Palin people who lurk this site:

Beware the Other Side. Narciso will chime in with Alinsky's Rules for Radicals (I forget which actual Rule this is...): "make the Enemy live up to their Own Rules". The object of the exercise (if I know my Axelrod) will be to try and overwhelm book signings with bogus wrist band holders to create negative press stories about this book tour.

Make consistent and clear rules for this process from one stop to another. Enunciate them clearly so that the rules are the same from one stop to another and everyone knows them in advance. Put it on FB if you have to. Make sure that NO ONE is left in the dark.

Trust me on this. Your campaign is getting lots of positive publicity right now. It's about time for David to start spoiling the broth.

Palin is tweeting up a storm and that's great. Stay connected Sarah! The media may try to define her, but she is getting her message out with Facebook and Twitter is changing the game. I would like to see her add radio commentary and taking questions from callers. Again it would be another means for her to get an unfiltered message out, along with her book, op-eds and the aforementioned social networks.

Her book is great and I hope she raises alot of money for her PAC for next year's election run. Next year looks to be a major, major GOP year, with the poor decisions by this administration to increase the deficit, increase taxes and bring terrorist to the country for trial. So Sarah has a great chance to really build momentum going into 2012. I think that the only thing she has to worry about between now and then is her own party trying to undercut her in some misguided thinking on her viability for 2012.

MsLiberty,  November 21, 2009 11:04 AM

Thanks for the report, Tara -- sounds like you had a great time!  I'm pleased to hear we might have enough time to exchange a few words with her.   I've been thinking about what I want to say because if I don't have a script memorized ahead of time, I will be completely tongue-tied!  It's also good to hear how different outlets are handling the wristband thing.  I'll have someone with me who is not in any shape physically to stand outside all night, so hopefully our Sam's Club will start handing out the wristbands early.

O/T    NEW YORK TIMES -JANUARY 20,1979.....Carter leads Reagan in polls

WASHINGTON, Jan. 20--President Carter would easily defeat either former Gov. Ronald Reagan of California or former President Gerald R. Ford if the election were held today, according to the Gallup Poll.

A Gallup Poll from Dec 1978 showed Carter with a huge 57-35 lead over Reagan. Up substantially from a 52-43 lead a few months earlier.

defendAmerica,  November 21, 2009 12:04 PM

I was also in Columbus yesterday and couldn't disagree more with Tara's assessment of the event posted above.  Especially with the wristband issue.

I made the 2 hour drive from Cincinnati to Columbus, as the Cincinnati event had pre-sold their places in line with their books and there weren't any left.

I arrived in Columbus around 8:30am and the line stretched the length of the strip mall this Borders was in wrapped around the side and covered the length of the back.  I was of course way in the back.

We had been told that when the store opened at 10am, they would be handing out wristbands and that those who had them could leave and come back closer to the event for signing.

Initially they had advertised 1000 wristbands, but then changed that at the last minute to 500.  i will explain that change shortly.

We waited in line until about noon, as people slowly walked in the store, got their wristband and left.  I was number 520 and thus was one of the first to be turned away.

I was shocked by some of the outrage of the people in the line who refused to accept the answer that Borders had received an email from Sarah early that morning requesting that the number be cut without explanation and they were merely complying with that request.  They pointed out that the flier stated that all rules were subject to change and they did not control the rules.

I asked about waiting anyway and they had me start a line off to the side of the store for "no wristband" people.  Explaining that she would sign as many as she could after the 500 with wristbands were signed but there were no guarantees.  Almost all of the 300+ people who were denied wristbands left and about 10 of us formed a new line, set up our chairs and got comfortable.

To start, the weather was wonderful.  Sunny and 55 all day.  I made quick friends in line and we enjoyed the free wifi at borders to catch up on Sarah interviews we had missed.

Being at the head of the line and right near the door allowed me to over hear all that was going on.  As the day progressed, i heard staff talking about the wirstbands with Sarah's "pre-event" people who came in to make sure everything was ready for her.

They explained that 1000 wristbands were given out the day before in Ft. Wayne (an experience that I will write about next) and another 1000 were handed out for her second signing that same day in Noblesville.  Each wristband allowed 2 books to be signed.

Apparently she made it through the books in Ft. Wayne without any problems, but had to stop before all of the books were signed in Nobelsville- she apparently did about 650 there. Her hands were bothering her and she couldn't keep a fast enough pace to get through the line.  There were reportedly hundreds of upset people who had waited all day and had been given wristbands and a guarantee that they would get to meet her and have their book signed.  I saw that she also posted about this on facebook.

She started the next day in Cincinnati, Oh where they had already pre-sold 1000 "letters" for space in line.  To prevent what occurred in Nobelsville, she requested that Columbus only allow 500 wristbands to go out, so that she was not committed to more, though said she would stay until the end and sign as many as she could beyond that.

I was number 501...

narciso,  November 21, 2009 12:23 PM

Hey guys, and gals of course, I heard from a contact on another blog that I frequent, and they were able to get a copy of "Going Rogue" signed from the Cincinatti stop, and it's being mailed to me. BTW, I sent Kpark a note indicating my disagreements with the premise of her column

defendAmerica,  November 21, 2009 12:27 PM

We hung out there all day and watched all the preparations.  Media were there on and off throughout the day interviewing and taping footage.  All of the local networks were there as well as the Insider, Entertainment Tonight, someone from the NewsHour with Jim Laher, and FOX.  Also the Washington Post and the Examiner.  There was also some reporter from Canada.

We watched as the security came.  Bomb sniffing dogs walked through.  There were troopers and local police and eventually Sarah's personal security team.  Sarah's Aunt Kate and her mom came walking by pushing Trig in a stroller and we got to talk with them!  They are apparently traveling with her on this first leg of the journey.

I found the Borders staff to be incredibly gracious and kind, though overwhelmed by the number of people and the media attention.  They had brought in workers from surrounding stores to help staff the store, many of whom had never even been in this location.

We also made friends quickly with the local troopers who spent most of the afternoon standing outside of the store who promised they would work hard to convince Sarah to let the first 10 of us without wristbands in.

For the first few hours, we remained a line of 10, but as time went on our line swelled to several hundred, despite not being guaranteed even a Sarah sighting.

Around 3p we ordered Chinese from a local place and had it delivered to the front of borders.  We talked about all things Sarah and were having a great time with the intermittent media interviews.

Around 4pm, the wrist banded people started arriving and lining up on the other side of the door in order of color.

And at about 5:30 we saw the bus pull in early and the place went crazy.  The line started moving soon after and was moving at a good clip.

At 8:15 the store manager, who had been out to talk to us frequently throughout the day and was great, told us that the last of the wristbanded people were going to go in the store and we were going to stand outside and wait for her people to decide if she was going to keep signing and if so, how many she wanted to come in.

THEN,  all of a sudden she walked out through the doors surrounded by security.  They people in line went crazy yelling her name and cheering.  She waved for a second and then said, "Oh, what the heck come on in".  The people rushed toward her and were stopped and put back in line by the Borders staff.

She stayed until about 9:20p and finished the 200-300 people left in the line.

I got my book signed and then came out and met sapwolf who was out there holding signs.  We went around  back and watched her get in her bus and then ran around to to the front to wave and cheer as the bus drove off.

She was again, generous and gracious.  I thanked her for using her voice to defend us.  She asked me where I was from and how long I had been waiting.  She commented on my cold hand when she shook it, and I told her she was worth it.  She also commented on my tshirt that said, "Sarah Palin Rogue 2012"

I wrote a thank you note and mailed it to Borders this morning for their hardwork and graciousness.  They were not all fans of Sarah, but worked hard to make sure this event went smoothly for her despite the rude behavior they received from some of her supporters.

I was so glad that I went back a second time to meet her look forward to doing it [...]

<span><span>From the Columbus Dispatch:

"For a conservative swath of Americans, Palin evokes such rock-star-like passion, a recognition of themselves in her, the personification of their principles."

At some point the tools in the media are going to realize that Palin is a rock star not just for conservatives but for patriots everywhere. They're trying to marginalize her as only a politician who appeals to the base. In reality, she's a cultural phenomenon who transcends politics. And that's what really SCARES the carp out of them. </span></span>

Great account of the book signing.  Glad you got to meet her and shake hands!  I'm halfway through GOING ROGUE and anxiously awaiting my signed copy.

By the way, I think there's a typo on page 75 where she's talking about her Friday mornings at the Country Kitchen.  When she says "...loveable old dudes", I'm sure that should read "...loveable OldDude"!  Hopefully, that will be corrected in the next printing.

Have a great day, Barbarians and...GO BEARS, BEAT STANFORD!

I am thrilled that Palin has taken advantage of Facebook and Twitter to communicate with people. Finally, a Republican has jumped ahead of the curve to utilize this technology. The old boys can sniff at this approach, but truth be told, I haven't picked up a newspaper in years. I get my information via WSJ.com, NRO, and FNC, so I'm on the Internet most of the time. For Palin to grab hold of this medium and use it to get her pure message out puts her at a great advantage over other potential 2012 rivals. Look at the past few days. Some people were upset that they didn't get their books signed, let her know about the problem, and within hours she sent out a message and moved to fix the hiccups. That's incredible. I have no doubt that should Palin become the next President she'd definitely advocate putting bills online ASAP.
I remember people hailing Obama's campaign as being the most tech savy and then come to find out when Obama was in China, he admitted to never using Twitter and probably has never used Facebook. I think someone over at Gateway Pundit remarked, "That's okay, I'm sure when Palin has the time she can teach him how to use it." Heh, Palin's use of FB and Twitter is fantastic and it's starting to make her look like the Great Communicator 2.0.

Just a suggestion,

Drop the word "fan" when referring to your support of the Guv. It plays into the media's portrayal of her as a talk show host/Pop star "phenom"/flash in the pan. The media describes all of us as her "fans", so you know it's meant to hurt--dismiss the support she has.

Describe yourselves as "supporters", "backers", "Palinistas", "Sarah or Busters", anything but fan. I know this term does her no good because I was arguing with some idiots last night who were describing me as a "Fan" as they smirked. They weren't smirking by the end of the conversation (bad temper).

Just a thought!

So far, everyone that I've talked to said that she made it a very personable experience.  Don't bother preparing something to say - I did and it all went out the window, haha!

With the wristband thing, some are doing one band 'per family' but still just a limited number of books to be signed with that one band.  So my friend had two books, one band, and brought his girlfriend who didn't stand in line at all.  Hopefully you can do something like that.

Tara,  November 21, 2009 4:02 PM

There was a guy that was harassing our group that was camping out - videotaping everyone he talked to and generally being a nuisance.  Apparently someone called the cops on him when he refused to not videotape them, and he was made to leave.

Tara,  November 21, 2009 4:07 PM

I guess I'm not clear on what you're disagreeing with.  I could only go by what I was told by staff and what I heard when word first started to spread among the group who had been there all night long that the number had been cut.

defendAmerica,  November 21, 2009 4:18 PM

My experience in Fort Wayne, as I am not sure where else to put it...

I headed to Fort Wayne intent on shaking Sarah's hand.  In the past, I have had opportunity to catch glimpses of her from afar and have heard her speak.  The option to thank her and shake her hand, has never presented itself though and this time I was not going to miss it.

There were 4 book signings planned, all within 3 hours of my home... Fort Wayne, Nobelsville, Cincinnati and Columbus.  I live in Cincinnati and was going to start there, but their process was different and they presold places in line, which were all taken when I called a week before the signing.

i decided I was going to start in Fort Wayne and go to as many as necessary until I was able to see her.

I headed out around 5pm on Wednesday evening toward a Meijer (which is like a super WalMart, for those of you that don't have one near you).  It was raining and cold and the Meijer hadn't a well outlined plan when I called except that she was expected at noon and wristbands were to be handed out to the first 1000 people at 10am.

Unsure what I would need, I packed up changes of clothes, blankets, tarps, umbrellas, and a rain suit (it was supposed to rain all night) and figured I could purchase anything else I needed when I got there.

When I arrived around 7pm, there was no obvious line outside the building, so I went in to stake out the place and pick up some snacks for the night.  When I got in the store, I was immediately greeted by a huge display of Rogue and an 8 foot table covered in books.  There were few people in the store shopping, but much preparation was clearly going on.

The employees were taking down center aisle displays to clear a bigger path for the anticipated crowd and media that were expected.  The was a lot of cleaning and straightening going on elsewhere around the store.  I approached what looked like a manager in a suit to ask him what the plan was and where he wanted me to start the line.  He answered that it was much too early to think about starting the line, but I could come back in the morning and it would start inside.

Determined that I would be at the beginning of the line, I decided that I would go out and just start it at the beginning of the door.  As I headed back out in the rain, I noticed the large number of cars in the parking lot and thought it odd that I had only seen a few shoppers.  I went back to the car and got my back pack of supplies, my camping chair, etc and headed back to the door to set up camp.

As I walked up to start the line, about 30 people rushed from their cars to get a spot behind under the awning of the store.  However, soon after the store manager came out and announced that despite his earlier statement, that there would be no line in the store, he had changed his mind and we should come in.  It appears a woman who had been too late at Grand Rapids had headed to Fort Wayne and convinced the manager that he didn't want several hundred people outside his 24 hour Meijer in a thunderstorm all night.

We all put our stuff back in our cars.  I changed my clothes, no longer expecting to be cold and wet all night.  No chairs were allowed in the store, but I took my blanket and my backpack.  We took up residence for the night in an aisle of Christmas decorations and snaked up and down and in and out of aisles.  And later in the morning that line snaked out the store and into the garden section where rope turnstiles had been constructed.

I got to know my fellow aisle-mates for the night.  Most were great barbarians and a few were a little strange.  The lady that stayed first in line, the one that had twisted the managers arm behind his back and convinced him to let us in the store, [...]

And I'm tickled to read your account of the event and the fact that you met Sapwolf, defendAmerica.  Great!

It's understandable if people are upset about not getting their book signed after standing in line but sheesh - anyone ever stop and think about the strain on someone's hand doing all that writing?  People need to be a little reasonable.

CharterOakie,  November 21, 2009 4:35 PM

CowboyVet - she's stopping in NW Idaho before returning to AK.  Coeur d'Alene and Sandpoint, I think.  Check the book tour calendar upper left corner of the C4P home page.  Hope you're not all the way out in Pocatello or somewhere.

Defend,
What you wrote was so good I couldn't wait!

CharterOakie,  November 21, 2009 4:43 PM

Coeur d'Alene and Sandpoint, ID on Dec 10th.  Billings, MT on Dec 8; Reno and Salt Lake City on Dec 9 in case those locations are closer to you.

<p>The people in line were flexible and we took turns leaving line to head to the bathroom or get up for a stretch and take  walks around the store which was open for business all night.  As the hours passed the line got longer and was well over 100 people by 10pm.
</p><p>
</p><p>It was interesting to talk with everyone about their ideas.  i was surprised at how little most around me knew about politics.  They were there to see Sarah.  They mostly watched only Fox News and had trouble remembering specific facts about current events.  But, they knew that what Sarah said made sense and lined up with the ways that they run their families and their businesses.  Of the first 50 or so in line, none had ever heard of C4P or Team Sarah, or any other Pro-Palin place.  I was excited to receive Sarah's first tweets there on my phone, though none of the others around me had ever been on twitter, I read them and tweeted Sarah back to let her know we were in line and waiting for her.

</p><p>
</p><p>Around 4am, the media started showing up in mass.  There were close to 500 people there by that time who were shocked at the number of people that were laying all over those nice clean Meijer floors, neatly snaked up and down the aisles along the right side of the store.  As the cameras set up, pointed right at the front of the line (and me), we started to figure out where they were from.  Good Morning America, MSNBC, the Today Show, and all the local networks had plans to tape.  Reporters from the Washington Post, the New York Times, and local papers were walking along the aisles asking questions of the people on the ends.  Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, and others were in there as well.
</p><p>
</p><p>When we saw Andrea Mitchell walk in and start putting on makeup on top of her makeup we realized how big of a media deal this was.  Close behind her was Norah O'Donnell.  Neither interacted with the crowd until they wanted an interview and they did not speak to each other either.  The host of Good Morning America was much more pleasant.
</p><p>
</p><p>I ran to the arts and crafts section of the store and bought posterboard and a sharpie and we made up signs to hold in front of the cameras.  I have not taken the time to look for clips yet, but I was right in front of the MSNBC and Today Show cameras and my sign is green and says "Thank You Sarah" and has "conservatives4Palin.com  written on it.
</p><p>
</p><p>For the next few hours we watched the interviews go on and held up our signs and yelled and chanted when the red lights were blinking.  In between I read and tried not to fall asleep.  Some of the people in line were getting tired and a little less tolerant of each other as the morning wore on, but for the most part there was harmony in the crowd.
</p><p>
</p><p>Around 8am they came around with cookies and juice and coffee and the line was headed out the door and into the garden section.  The big media elites were gone and cameras were waiting for Sarah's arrival.  It was getting loud inside the store.  About 50 state trooper and local police came in with a dog who searched the area where Sarah would be and they all took up their posts.
</p><p>
</p><p>At 10am they came down the aisles with green bracelets.  Once we had one on we were not to leave the line for any reason.  We also picked up our stuff around that time and moved in closer as there was no more room at the end of the line for the hundreds more people that had accumulated.
</p><p> </p>

defendAmerica,  November 21, 2009 4:47 PM

<p>Around 11:45 we were told her bus was here and she was expected any moment.  She was to be signing in a curtained off "room" that had been made.    At 11:55 she appeared out of nowhere surrounded by security from behind a display.  The place went crazy and started chanting , "Sarah, Sarah".  She was quickly whisked behind the curtains.
</p><p>
</p><p>They opened up the rope that held us back in the aisle and the line started down the main aisle.  We had to leave all bags and coats and cameras on a table in front of the curtains and open up our books to the page we wanted signed and then rushed into see her.  I was #10 in line.  An aide took our book from us and passed it in front of her.  Without looking down she would scribble with her sharpie and another aide would grab it out and set it on the table.  The whole time she was interacting and talking and laughing.  She was asking people questions and shaking hands.  She was standing and one of the aides tried to tell her there was a chair behind her.  She answered, "Are you crazy?  After being stuck in that bus all this time?" and laughed and remained standing.
</p><p>
</p><p>There were network cameras in there taping the signing that rotated in and out and there was a camera person taking each persons picture as Sarah was signing our book.  We got a card to go online and look at those pictures to purchase if we want.  It was a nice concession for not being allowed to take cameras into see her.
</p><p>
</p><p>It was a great meeting her and shaking her hand and thanking her for all that she does.  She amazed me with her ability to connect with each person, despite spending 20 seconds or less with them as they paraded in front of her.  She shook hands and picked up babies and gave hugs.  She signed t-shirts (though that was breaking the rules :) and personalized books (though that was also against the rules :)  She struck me as genuinely happy to be there and excited to meet the people who loved her.

There was no one there all night that got cut.  I got there around 8am and was 20 people behind the cutoff.  The few that were in front of me arrived not more than an hour before me and all would have gotten their book signed had they chosen to stay.  The people at Border's were very clear in explaining that there were only 500 wristbands per Governor Palin's request.  We called the store from line back behind the building and they told us they didn't know why and they were following orders but clearly confirmed that there were limited wristbands.

I think sometimes misinformation gets out there because of what people "hear" even if it's not true it becomes difficult dispute and used as truth in other places.  I think this concept is magnified 1000 times when it involves Sarah and I think that should make us pause when posting information about her that can be used against her if we are not sure that it is accurate.

I hope if I can get to Boarders by 12pm that i'll be able to get the wrist band when they start handing them out at 5pm. I'll probably be all tongue-tied if I should be lucky to meet her. Sarah is just awesome. God bless her, her family :)
