Going Rogue Officially #1

In addition to becoming the first Republican elected official to claim the #1 spot on the USA Today Best-Seller list, Governor Palin has unsurprisingly won the #1 spot on the NY Times Hardcover Non-Fiction Best-Seller List.

Congratulations to Governor Palin!

Kristina Lazzaro, November 28, 2009 5:06 PM

Congratulations Governor Palin! We are all so proud of your accomplishment! If people haven't read "Going Rogue" yet, it's a must! You won't put it down. And if you have the chance to go to one of Sarah's book signings, GO! It is definitely worth it! I went to the one in Rochester!

You can read about it here: http://inspirationsarah.blogspot.com/

Andrew, November 28, 2009 5:15 PM

How soon before NYT tries to discredit her by tagging her listing with a dagger, which means there's "bulk buying / inflating" happening? I give it to next week.

Whitney, November 28, 2009 5:15 PM

Congrats to Governor Palin! I wonder if the phrase "going rogue" will be the phrase used to indicate a book going to number in the future.:)

I.e. Stephen King's latest thriller went rogue in its first week of release. :)

Kjanlady, November 28, 2009 5:17 PM

Waaaaaay to go Sarah! I'm quite sure that this goal was entirely possible because I just returned from purchasing another copy of Going Rogue....this time the audio version. Eight CD's and eight hours of Sarah reading her book....think I'll set my CD player each night and let Sarah's voice and messages of hope lull me to sleep each night.

Message to Nancy...We discussed this earlier....I picked up the audiobook at WalMart. I was surprised to find it there...no hard back books to be found but there were 2 audiobooks.....now only one left.

And I finished my Christmas shopping too.

Nancy, November 28, 2009 5:19 PM

Because this news pertains to Governor Palin and Governor Palin is known to be irrelevant, this news therefore, is irrelevant.

Nancy, November 28, 2009 5:24 PM

Kjanlady,
Awesome! I was just at Walmart and wandered the book aisles, saw like 8 hardcovers left, but no audiobooks. Bummer.

ellen, November 28, 2009 5:26 PM

LOL. Sarah being #1 on the NYT list is the biggest middle finger to the left so far! They have spent the better part of a year trying to bring her down... epic fail

Don't liberal politicians write books? Oh, I forgot...they write them (i.e., Pelosi,Boxer...)...it's just no one buys them.

Whitney, November 28, 2009 5:36 PM

Liberal politicians' books may be on the fiction list instead.

Nancy, November 28, 2009 5:40 PM

Liberals can't read.

jimr3, November 28, 2009 5:41 PM

Woo Hoo! Many congratulations Sarah! Well done!

Ceejay, November 28, 2009 5:42 PM

Went Rogue when Sarah's book and audio was at the top of the shelf at a local Walmart, took and moved it to the middle of the shelf, HOW dare they put it up so high.

Checking on things.......Sarah!

Sarah 2012!

Hats off to the NYT for reporting this on time. Remember they published a story correcting the whole clothes issue a few weeks ago, about a year too late.

CharterOakie, November 28, 2009 5:51 PM

Officially #1. If Mia were here (ciao bella), she would say "surprise...surprise" (in her best Gomer Pyle voice).

Maybe the smoke is finally clearing and the elites can no longer obfuscate the fact that...

America loves Sarah!

RINO-Hunter, November 28, 2009 6:11 PM

LOL, Queef Olbermann is all wee-wee'd up over Sarah's book sales.

I would love for Sarah to go on his show and just laugh hysterically at him the whole time.

Kjanlady, November 28, 2009 6:23 PM

We could be seeing new activity here on C4P. As I was buying the audiobook the lady in line after me and the clerk both remarked how they liked Gov. Palin. I told the lady that I had read the book but I wanted the audio version also. She asked me why Sarah quit being Governor and I told her it's in the book and she didn't quit, she's just moving up to bigger things. I told her if she wanted the truth regarding Gov. Palin, go to conservatives4palin.com. Both she and the clerk wrote it down.

My gosh, am I a grassroots activist? no, I guess not...she's not actually running for office, is she?....maybe.....hopefully.....you betcha!

Izzy, November 28, 2009 6:24 PM

Sarah...you are the Best. NYT and the haters...just have to get lost. The CUDA is here to stay.

Love That Lady, November 28, 2009 6:27 PM

We give God the Glory for all of Sarah's accomplishments.

It is probably embarrassing to have an irrelevant person sell more books in one week, than have watched your tv show over lo these many years.

yogi41, November 28, 2009 6:31 PM

See, I don't consider Colin Powell a politician. He was never elected to any position, nor has he ever run for office. So, in my mind, she's the 3rd politician to hold the #1 spot, along with the Clinton's.

Mia, November 28, 2009 6:47 PM

NYT...#1...Going Rogue????....WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?????...hehehe...

You're Da Man...'CUDA!...CONGRATS!

'CUDA...2012!!!!...YAHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Whitney, November 28, 2009 6:47 PM

I just noticed that you can buy going rogue on itunes. I may do this. It may give me an extra boost when I run. Perhaps we should load it on an ipod and send it to Obama and maybe even the queen. She would enjoy it better than Obama's speeches.

Mia, November 28, 2009 6:49 PM

Ciao Bello...Gawwwwwwwleeeeee....

Whitney, November 28, 2009 6:50 PM

You can hear a minute and a half preview on itunes.

Mia, November 28, 2009 7:02 PM

Hey Whit...Did you notice..."O'Biden" reference in the Book?....hehehe..

TexMex, November 28, 2009 7:04 PM

For the record, we all liked Palin before it was cool. Just want everyone to know that before she becomes the biggest badass in the nation come 2012.

Whitney, November 28, 2009 7:05 PM

Yes! Hehe.

TexMex, November 28, 2009 7:07 PM

yes, you are ;)

btw, I bought the audio version too so I could listen to it driving to Ft. Worth from OK City. I loved hearing her voice and the inflections in her voice. I loved Chapter One but I'm in love with Chapter 3. Man she really battled it out up there in AK. That's one tough lady.

munchnstuf, November 28, 2009 7:18 PM

Congratulations, my #1 Guv!

HOO-AH!! ;D

Mia, November 28, 2009 7:19 PM

Thanks jimr3...

Sapwolf, November 28, 2009 7:22 PM

I'm definitely getting that for my car trip to CA for Christmas season.

munchnstuf, November 28, 2009 7:23 PM

Yep. I just started listening to it yesterday.

I *LOVE* hearing Sarah read it! She did an awesome job!!

GAHanson, November 28, 2009 7:30 PM

Regarding that dagger, if you read what it means it says, "some stores have reported receiving bulk order requests." The statement in itself is meaningless, they don't define "some" "bulk order" and neither do they say whether these "requests" were filled or not. I see it is essentially a bone to liberals who always fret about conservative books selling so well. I've read that NYT surveys about 3,000 bookstores so what does "some" mean, 1, 2, 3, 10, who knows. What do the individual stores consider a bulk order? Small stores may consider 5 or 10 to be a bulk order since they may carry only 2 copies of a book. But, the left always gets on this builk order kick, I've seen it over and over again from the HuffPo and DailyKos crowd.

GAHanson, November 28, 2009 7:38 PM

Going Rogue is:

#1 in ALL Books at Amazon
#1 at Borders
#1 at Hastings Books
#1 at Walmart
#2 at Barnes and Noble (but #1 in non-fiction)
#1 in non-fication at Books a Million

I'm not sure what numbers all that translates into, but my guess is is that over 1 million have been sold, since the 700,000 figure started circulating last Saturday. Another 300,000 in a week would not be surprising.

WeLoveAlaska, November 28, 2009 7:49 PM

Check out the coverage at www.tricityherald.com for the Richland, WA book sigining on Sunday. We'll be making the 3 1/2 hour drive from Vancouver, WA in the morning. Is anyone from C4P and in Clark County/Vancouver, WA area going to the book signing?

CruelaDev, November 28, 2009 7:53 PM

It's not that good of a book...it's all lies!

Did Nic-hole Wallace fall off the left side of the planet..
she seems to have gone missing?

juju, November 28, 2009 7:55 PM

I have read where the sales at Costo and Sam's and some other places do not count towards the number the use to be on the NYT best selling list.

Your welcome Mia!

The audio version is pretty sweet and I recommend it. Stopped off at a Barnes and Noble in Norman, OK and I grabbed the last one. Probably about 12 books left on the stand too. She's hot out there in the heartland.

ladydawnelle, November 28, 2009 8:17 PM

Heyyyyyyy! Thanks for the shout out Goddess Sista! Our T day was pretty grand! I hope you had a great time as well. YOu hve been sooo lucky lately you know!! Getting a real HUG for her! Wow! Next time I see you we must hug so maybe it's catching! ;-)

GAHanson, November 28, 2009 8:30 PM

That's true, Nielsen's Bookscan system doesn't count WalMart, Target, Costco, or any other big box stores, it also misses sales at airports, trainstations, etc., and even some independent bookstores. When you see the bookscan numbers you have to add about 30 percent to it to get a good estimate as to how many books have been actually sold. I read an article about a weight loss book that bookscan showed had sold only a couple hundred thousand, but the publisher had printed and sold millions of them. Bookscan missed them because the majority were sold at grocery stores, drug stores, and big box stores.
GAHanson,

Rogue is a delightful book. Truly delightful.

AWESOME!! This si such a great book. Congrats Sarah!!

Wildmanbill, November 28, 2009 8:47 PM

I wanted to tell you all that I recieved a personalized photo from Sarah today in the mail. I sent Sarah a letter a couple months ago asking her to be one of the leaders of the tea party movement and then I included a self addressed stamped envelope and it came back today. I was stoked.

Those attending the book signing in Sioux Falls SD are being advised to stand in line overnight.
Long lines expected for Palin visit

Associated Press - November 28, 2009 5:15 PM ET
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - The manager of the Barnes & Noble store in Sioux Falls is anticipating long lines when former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin makes a stop there on her book tour.
Manager Stacey Nelson says people who want to get a book signed by Palin likely will need to be in line overnight.
Palin is to appear at the Sioux Falls store on Dec. 6 to sign copies of her book, "Going Rogue: An American Life."
Sioux Falls Police Chief Doug Barthel says Barnes & Noble is hiring off-duty law officers to work with Palin's own people to provide security and crowd control inside and around the building.

...interesting article from the NY TIMES blog:
Palin Goes Gracious By JUDITH WARNERI got a lesson in civility, grace under pressure and general human fellowship recently from, of all people, Sarah Palin.
http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/11/26/palin-goes-gracious/

-it is about how Sarah's surprisingly gracious atitutde toward Levi on Oprah shocked the heck outta her lol.-I believe the woman is a liberal and it is the NY TIMES(so expect a few digs) but she had some nice things to say.

Jamika, November 28, 2009 8:57 PM

Also, doesn't Walmart keep its book sales data under wraps? Or so I heard. So in reality, whatever the book sales are reported to be, the actual number could be considerably higher.

ladydawnelle, November 28, 2009 9:01 PM

ok so Nana did it! Gave me the "go ahead" to buy the book! Via this website through AMazon and it will be here in a few days!!! YIPPEE!! We decided on the Hard Cover because my mother is a book WORM!! So want to add it to her collection right next to old bill and Hill after we're done! LOL go Mom!

CruelaDev, November 28, 2009 9:12 PM

I have some bad news for you all who want to buy the audio book...
That is really not Sarah Palin reading that aloud...it is a ghost speaker.

Sorry...I know...just breaks my heart too....

LadySam, November 28, 2009 9:20 PM

This is an excellent YouTube Video from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association with Sarah talking about her Christian experience. I don't believe there has ever been a person in politics speak so honestly, forthrightly, an unashamnedly about their personal faith. Maybe it helps that I share her faith! Sorry I can't get the link to work but this is the name of the video.

Some see Palin's online effort lacking

http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/69629-some-see-palins-online-effort-lacking

Senate Republican Conference online communications director Sean Hackbarth lobbed this charge at Palin’s online presence this week: “I'm sorry, Sarah #Palin has one of the lamest online efforts of any national political figure.”
Hmmm, who on the gop side has a better online operation? According to Alexa SarahPAC has a lot more traffic than Mitt, Huck and Tim. Which of these guys has anything like C4P, Team Sarah, TX4Palin or the close to 50 other all-Palin all the time websites? I admit SarahPAC has been in need of a major overhaul since it appeared, but that will come.

ladydawnelle, November 28, 2009 9:49 PM

CruelaDev, November 28, 2009 9:54 PM

So then...you must have lots of leftovers?...?

Wildmanbill, November 28, 2009 9:55 PM

agreed. sarahpac is kind of lame.

WeLoveAlaska, November 28, 2009 10:04 PM

Had a couple of options and I have been thinking which would be the best. Would love to see Governor Palin in Richland, WA; a less populated area and our home state. But according to the Tri-City Herald, people in Richland, WA are already camping out overnight and they expect thousands. She will also be in Coeur D'Alene, ID where I can easily fly; a one hour flight from Portland, OR to Spokane, WA and make the 30 mile/minute drive to the Coeur D'Alene, ID book signing. In March we went to the Iditarod 2009 in Anchorage and Willow, AK. There were 20,000 people there; just to get a glimpse of the Governor, at the ceremonial start of the race in Anchorage, AK.

TexMex, November 28, 2009 10:06 PM

Heh, I read this over at Free Republic. First off, anyone else here think "GOP online communications" is an oxymoron? Nat'l Republicans are a lot of things but webmasters they aren't. Second, Mr. Hackbarth's comment is painfully out of touch given the million plus followers on Palin's Facebook page and the quite large number of followers on Twitter. My god I have expected this mook to suggest she take out a newspaper ad. Please join the 21st Century, Mr. Hackbarth. Palin's Facebook post drew a response from the President during a joint session of Congress while a donation spam email from McCain spurred me to hit the "remove from mailing list" button. SarahPac Ads are all over the big Conservative websites and she's hitting a large swath of midsized markets on her book tour. Her model seems to be riding the new media wave and it's already 3 yrs out from the 2012 elections. Still think her online effort is "lame," Mr. Hackbarth? I popped over to his super cool website: The American Mind Guess who's ad is gracing his page? Avoid the friendly fire, Mr. Hackbarth. At least he's reading her book.

JeanA, November 28, 2009 10:14 PM

Mia, November 28, 2009 10:22 PM

WOW!!!!!....Good Job Neo!

TexMex, November 28, 2009 10:28 PM

yes, it is read by Palin, but it is the abridged version. There are some parts that are omitted like her humorous description of the birth of Track, her one on one meeting with Murkowski regarding the Senate seat, and her little fight with Todd regarding her initial lack of support for Todd's stepmom in the mayoral campaign. I'm only on disc two right now. It's not a big deal. The best part of the audio is getting to hear Palin's inflections and voice. I felt like I was sitting across from her at a coffee shop and she was running through her life story. I recommend the audio version if you can get a hold of one. I bought the last one at a B&N while passing through Norman, OK. She's hot out there in the heartland!

ellen, November 28, 2009 10:31 PM

Hey guys I got my signed copy of Going Rogue, from my friend in Noblesville, who braved the crowds. It's not personalized but it's got the trademark swirl and it didn't come from a plate,
Silly Mr. Vandelay. Facepalm on those in the GOP trying to rubbish her online effort. It's all organic, Facebook, Twitter, maybe Youtube will be next

Neo, November 28, 2009 10:33 PM

Well - I met her in a private meeting (about 50 people) today and I can honestly say that whatever you think of her from TV and internet coverage you can multiply your opinion by at least 10!

M. Minnesota, November 28, 2009 11:21 PM

Oops Sorry, Thanks Neo!!

Neo, November 28, 2009 11:26 PM

Not much to tell. I know her uncle Ron. He has attended some of our TEA Party organizing meetings.
He called Tue. morning and asked if I would like to meet Sarah. It was an invitation only book signing for about 60 people.
Our Congressman Doc. Hastings was there, all Sarah's kids, Uncles, Aunts, and Parents + we invited 'guests'.
Sarah said she may want to go by the Richland Book store and talk to the folks that are waiting in line.
I phoned her a bit ago and her uncle said she was witting a couple of speeches and had decided to stay in.

I have to take some sleeping bags to some folks who are waiting in line for tomorrow. I hope C4P posts the video before I get back.

Mia, November 28, 2009 11:26 PM

Maybe you should try Decaf??... ;)

Tommy Report, November 28, 2009 11:28 PM

I'd post it right now but I have no idea how to embed videos.

M. Minnesota, November 28, 2009 11:30 PM

It would be great if someone could track the sales of the "Going Rogue" Audio Book, it's possible staying power, how does it compare to sales of ohter audio books currently, how it has fared against the Clinton Audio Books.

Compare the "Going Rogue" Audio book sales to those of the Bill Ayers/Teleprompter book "Dreams of my Father and Audacity of Hope"

Sapwolf, November 28, 2009 11:30 PM

I would guess she has people combing the internet for news, alerts, dirt, etc. to keep her organization on top of things.

M. Minnesota, November 28, 2009 11:31 PM

ooops! ohter = other

Neo, November 28, 2009 11:31 PM

I bought 2 copies of the audio. I don't have time to read so I listen to the audio. I finished mine while I was waiting for her to show up for the race Thur. morning.

eclecticak, November 28, 2009 11:31 PM

I bought one of my two {so far.... ;-) } copies at Wally-World. I guess we'd better say 700.001 copies!

Unless the picture is photoshop, it seems Obama has known the party crashers for 5 years.

Interesting article. And things get curioser with this guy having an arab/muslim name and being on the American Task Force for Palestine. Just what is going on? I thought these guys were supposed to be competent. These two just waltzed in and could have taken anyone in the room out in seconds. What if this guy had swine flu and was on some mission to infect everyone? He could have picked up one of the knives at the dinner table and wreaked havoc. There's literally hundreds of options. Just who is minding the store?

On a side note, after finishing the book, I now have a new ultimate dream for the evening of Nov 6, 2012. Sometime around 9PM in the east, 5PM in "Great Land", as thousands of people in newsrooms in Manhattan and Washington are crying and Orbitzing flights to Montreal and Toronto, a guy in Carrhart's walks in to a saloon and says the follwing "Barack Obama got jacked up!". And soon after, TVs all across the nation are running tape of a simple two word phrase uttered in front of a cheering throng, "Yay Me".

I think it can happen.

CruelaDev, November 29, 2009 12:01 AM

Good..saw her at thanksgiving...she got all her tests back and they found nothing....
So the cancer is gone. Just praying it stays gone!

Whitney, November 29, 2009 12:04 AM

Thanks for sharing that, Neo! That's great!

Mia, November 29, 2009 12:06 AM

That's Great Cruela!...I'll keep her in my prayers....

Not to mention the cost for running her hugely popular Facebook page is MINISCULE.

Mitt Romney probably spends more on his pomade than Sarah spends on her web presence. LOL.

paperson, November 29, 2009 12:16 AM

BookTV on C-SPAN2 will re-broadcast the Going Rogue signing in Cincinnati, OH at Joseph Beth Booksellers. It will air on Sun, 29 Nov, at 11:15 AM ET. Several people are interviewed, including sapwolf. There are a few peeks of Gov Palin signing books, but no direct interview with her.

Congratulations to Gov Palin on her best selling book.

GAHanson, November 29, 2009 12:19 AM

Mitt has actually increased his Facebook by about 30,000 in the last couple of months. He ran a ton of Facebook ads to get it up that high. Before the ads he was lucky to add 1000 a month.
GAHanson,

Hey all! It's been a busy weekend and I'm gonna try to catch up with you all on these threads. Anything big I've been missing?

We knew Sarah was #1 all along, but its fun watching leftie heads spin ;)

TexMex, November 29, 2009 12:33 AM

Pretty sure we all overdosed on turkey and Palin. Leftovers and more Palin to follow this coming week. Glad some folks are running around here (Lipstick). Me, I'm parked in front of the laptop constantly refreshing C4P page. Hope to see some of ya'll at the Plano booksigning!

CruelaDev, November 29, 2009 12:34 AM

Mia has been really strange tonight...but what's new there...right?...Other than
that....there was something about some lady and her book. I don't know!

Tommy Report, November 29, 2009 12:35 AM

I'll try.

Tommy Report, November 29, 2009 12:37 AM

New thread! A big-time thanks to Neo.

Recovering Democrat, November 29, 2009 12:46 AM

Facebook:

Mitt Romney = 109,116

Sarah Palin = 1,073,210

In a week or so, Sarah will have lapped Mitt by a million. Ha!

defendAmerica, November 29, 2009 12:49 AM

lol... thanks Cruela. BUT did you read the book or are you waiting for an audio version? I know you're not a big book reader!

BTW... I went into my local Target here in Ohio, looking for a copy of Rogue and was about to chew the manager out for not having the book out when I over heard another lady doing the same thing. Turns out they've been sold out of the book for days and are waiting for another shipment :)

Our lady Sarah is quite popular here in southern Ohio!

CruelaDev, November 29, 2009 12:54 AM

Yes I did read it...and I lived!
Can't remember the last time I read a book.
I hate reading so much...I used to make up books for book reports.
Then write about the book I made up! Teachers never caught on and I
always got A's and B's on those reports. I thought for sure someday I
would get busted...but never did!

Neo you are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO lucky I hope you realize that :-) We are all really envious of you..you get to talk to Sarah, I'd wait in line for 10 hours to meet her for 10 seconds and you get to actually talk to her on the phone..that is SO awesome!!

defendAmerica, November 29, 2009 1:07 AM

Thanks for the article.

bassman, November 29, 2009 8:50 AM

Sarah is able to link Kim Elton and Pete Rouse (page 367) of "troopergate" fame to to Pres. Obama, and the media ignores this important story. This story needs to be investigated.
