Governor Palin Called it: Scozzafava Endorses Owens

Republican Dede Scozzafava, who suspended her campaign yesterday in the New York 23rd Congressional District, has endorsed Democrat Bill Owens.

Please join me in voting for Bill Owens on Tuesday. To address the tough challenges ahead, we must rise above partisanship and politics and work together. There's too much at stake in this election to do otherwise.

Read the entire statement here:

Until this endorsement, it appeared she was acting honorably, willing to step aside rather than split the votes with Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, sacrificially getting out of the way for the benefit of the Party, refusing to allow a Democrat to claim victory in the District.

After all, in her announcement yesterday she said (emphasis added):

It is increasingly clear that pressure is mounting on many of my supporters to shift their support. Consequently, I hereby release those individuals who have endorsed and supported my campaign to transfer their support as they see fit to do so. I am and have always been a proud Republican. It is my hope that with my actions today, my Party will emerge stronger and our District and our nation can take an important step towards restoring the enduring strength and economic prosperity that has defined us for generations.

Her Party? To which Party is she referring? A mere one day after those words, the Republican in Name Only throws her support behind Democrat Bill Owens.

Apparently, she wasn't being quite so honorable after all; she was simply being who her record shows her to be: a liberal professing to be a proud Republican.

But isn't that what Governor Palin had already told us in her endorsement of Doug Hoffman (emphasis added)?

Political parties must stand for something. When Republicans were in the wilderness in the late 1970s, Ronald Reagan knew that the doctrine of "blurring the lines" between parties was not an appropriate way to win elections. Unfortunately, the Republican Party today has decided to choose a candidate who more than blurs the lines, and there is no real difference between the Democrat and the Republican in this race.

Yes, Governor Palin called it right.

Update by Mel: (Via Hot Air) Hotline On Call says that Scozzafava's now ex-campaign manager, Matt Burns, is backing Doug Hoffman:

"Dede is entitled to her own opinion, as is everyone, but I obviously disagree with her decision," Burns told us today, a day after leaving the campaign. "I am supporting Doug Hoffman, because denying Nancy Pelosi another foot soldier is vital to restoring fiscal responsibility and common sense in Washington."

Yes, Governor Palin called it right.

Indeed she did.  Thanks for posting this Andrienne.

Yep!  That's what I would call a real PAARIPO.

Andrienne,

Great write up.  I commented on the other thread about this.  Then I had to go for a run.

Don't these people stand for anything?  Do the have any values or convictions? The answer is NO.  They think of themselves only.

How do they sleeep at night?

Here is a video from Gov. Palin with Armstrong Williams.

She says you have to serve for the right reason.  And in politics you are either eating well or sleeping well.

I think this should put to rest who really has the best interests of the party and nation in mind now. Or are the libs and "moderates" going to claim that Fuzzy Scuzzy is the "real" rogue?

Sarah has shown REAL class and leadership in this race. She went ALL IN with Hoffman and didn't flinch an inch. She stuck to her principles and was once again proven right.

The GOP party "leaders" are clueless, vapid bunglers in comparison to her. The fact that she has been attacked by party insiders (such as Keene) as being not-ready-for-prime-time just reinforces how ridiculous they are.

If they had a tenth of Sarah's class and self-respect they would all resign and apologize to her and her supporters.

I'm not holding my breath.

I don't know much about Dede other than she has no loyalty nor honor. Tuesday will make for a very interesting day. Republicanism is dead, conservatism is very much alive!

I wonder what Newt will have to say about this!

Adrienne Ross,  November 1, 2009 5:35 PM

OldDude,

I just know Newt is stewing. I think he regretted endorsing Scozzafava when people like the gov. came out in support of Hoffman.  Now, after this, he's got to be embarrassed.

Dede was proud of her party before she was not proud of it. LOL

Always loved that she gets it! Thanks for the link! She just has common sense!

OldDude,  November 1, 2009 6:21 PM

Adrienne--

I think if Newt just came out and said he made a mistake and ripped Scozzafava for her endorsement and backed Hoffman, he could save a little face.  If he remains silent after this latest development, he will lose even more ground with conservatives and it will haunt him for a long, long time.  Same with Michael Steele.

Adrienne Ross,  November 1, 2009 6:45 PM

OldDude,

I certainly agree this will haunt him, and that may not be such a bad thing after all.

karenfromny,  November 1, 2009 7:05 PM

I am predicting that we won't hear from Newt until after Tuesday.  He will have time to spin whatever happened.  He will say something like "The people of New York have spoken and that is what a democracy is all about".  I can just hear him now..

OldDude,  November 1, 2009 7:14 PM

He who hesitates is lost--just like POTUS and Afghanistan.

Ceejay,  November 1, 2009 11:23 PM

I think Newt must be hiding under a rock, what a slap in the face for her own party but she is a RINO and can not help herself!

Sarah 2012!

Why doesn't Dede come right out and switch to the Democrat Party?
It doesn't make sense for her to remain in the Republican Party.

The last 48 hours remind me of this famous sentiment expressed in the movie Battleground (1949) referring to the Battle of the Bulge:

(PARAPHRASED):

Don't worry about analyzing what is happening the middle of the battle. There will be plenty of time for that after the battle is over.

What has happened over the last 48 hours in district 23 has been profound culminating with the defection of Dede Scozzafava to the Democrats.

Of course Hoffman must prevail on Tuesday, but the news that Dede has turned traitor is the best possible news for Sarah Palin. Without Sarah's support of Hoffman and the increased energy of volunteers and increased financial wherewithal caused by her endorsement I believe there would be no way that Hoffman or the conservative movement would be in such a favorable position as it now finds itself one day before the vote.

I think eventually conservatives, especially independent conservatives will start to see that and realize that the best possible move for them to make is to throw their lot in with Sarah as she propels the Sarah Palin express down the tracks throughout the lower 48 over the next year.

Politically, this is really good news for Sarah's political future.
