best interview ever imo.

NY59Giants,  November 18, 2009 10:36 PM

Quick...post something before someone else gets a chance....LOL!!

PEC,  November 18, 2009 10:37 PM

I am sure the media will correct her for the Iran/Iraq mistake.  She sounded better than she did on Rush.  I only caught the last 15 minutes and it was a shotgun effect of policy.  If this was what happened the full hour she summed up every US problem in an hour.  Oh and she is really doing well on the Couric thing.  She blew it.

Anonymous,  November 18, 2009 10:37 PM

seems like everybody's reading the book. so quiet

LT,  November 18, 2009 10:39 PM

I haven't heard all the interviews, but have heard her on Rush, Oprah, and Levin to name a few. This one was her best yet IMO. She seemed like the one now in command. Not just of the interview, but of the country.

NY59Giants,  November 18, 2009 10:40 PM

I saw the whole interview and love the fact that she tells it like it is and "damn the torpedoes" attitude. They will find fault that she used "Iraq" vs "Iran" twice before she got bak to Iran. Hannity tried to cover for her on this, but was unable to do so.

Overall, the "elites" will go into overdrive, but I love it and the next few weeks are going to be great watching the snobs trip over themselves to see who can be the nastiest.

Deidre,  November 18, 2009 10:40 PM

just like when Obama said "my muslim faith" right?  haha!

Deidre,  November 18, 2009 10:42 PM

He should have corrected her like George did with Obama and "my muslim faith."

Sheya,  November 18, 2009 10:45 PM

Greta highlights the interview, reports on the crowds in Grand Rapid, MI. Also talks to Anita McBride regarding sexism for women politicians in general and Governor Palin in particular.

New Facebook post:
<span>Go Rogue With the Rest of Us! Details of the second half of the Going Rogue book tour!</span>
Today at 7:35pmI'm looking forward to seeing everyone in every stop on the tour, but I'm especially looking forward to meeting our brave men and women in uniform at Fort Hood. I'm joining the efforts of many others by donating my royalties from the book sales during our stop at Fort Hood to the families of the victims whose lives have been forever changed by the tragic events of November 5th. I am humbled to be able to join the larger effort called "Community Response to 11/5," which was established by the Central Texas-Fort Hood Chapter of the Association of the US Army (AUSA). You can read more about their great efforts here: <span><span>http://www.forthoodausa.or</span><span></span></span>g/<span>.
As I mentioned last week, I'm going back on Twitter, so you can follow our path on SarahPalinUSA. Below are dates, times, and locations of the venues that I'll be referencing. Some other stops are still to be determined. Please contact each venue for more information. I'll see you soon! - Sarah Palin PS: Included below is a new flyer with the complete list of cities for the tour. Feel free to pass this one around, too!

RINO-Hunter,  November 18, 2009 10:56 PM

O'Reilly and Tanya Reiman on Gov Palin's Interview

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHkL4U5a_Ww

O’Reilly seems to be very smitten by the governor. Debunks Roberts argument that the Governor was intimated by him, says she was very relaxed.

But you gotto love this exchange:

O’Reilly: Do you believe that you are capable could do the job of president of the united states

Palin:
I believe that I am but that snot to say that I’m putting myself out there to campaign or anything else for such a thing.

O’Reilly: No, that’s not to say that, but do you believe that you are smart enough, incisive enough, intellectual enough to handle the most powerful job in the world, do you believe that?

Palin: I believe that I am, because I have common sense and I have. I believe, the values that are reflective of so many other values

Beehive,  November 18, 2009 11:00 PM

Ok at first I didn't understand why she would be going back to Virginia in the middle of her West coast tour. But then I realized she has that speaking thingy in Washington on the 5th.

Zephyr,  November 18, 2009 11:02 PM

Just Smiling...Good day all in all...My wish for her is that she could crash and like the rest of us and get ready for the next day without people nickpicking. Pick PIck Pick ...sheeze...give her a break.

Deidre,  November 18, 2009 11:03 PM

OK, going to read now!  I'm only on page 100!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't worry about it.. she confident and knows what's she's talking about. Of course someone is going to overplay this, if they do we'll remind them of what langauge the talk in Austria, and the 57 states.
The interview was great, this was her best one yet. The O'Reilly interview is the one I want to see that's going to be a tough one.

Couple things.  Check out this short video clip of her signing today in Michigan--What's that I hear in the background that Barnes and Nobles is piping through the speakers? ;)

And take a look at this quote:

<span>6:10 p.m. | For 15 years, Mark Vainner, 41, of Grand Rapids has been getting conservative politicians and media celebrities to sign his green jacket. G. Gordon Liddy was the first, and others along the way include Newt Gingrich, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham. When he asked whether Palin would add her name to the list, security guards said no, no, no. "But she just jumped up and said, 'Of course, I'll sign it,' '" he said, along with the book. "It was well worth it. I'm on cloud nine."</span>

WASILLA — Piper Palin missed most of her classes last week, but it’s OK. She brought notes.

The 8-year-old daughter of Sarah Palin, along with 15-year-old sister Willow, joined the former Alaska governor in taping some interviews leading up to today’s release of Palin’s book, “Going Rogue: An American Life.”

Perhaps the third-grader wanted more pull than just a note from a former governor and vice presidential candidate. So, after sitting in the front row while her mother was interviewed by Oprah Winfrey in Chicago on Wednesday, Piper asked the talk show host for a note excusing her from class, said Palin aide Meg Stapleton. She then got another note on Friday from Barbara Walters.
GEORGE BURNS/Harpo Inc. Oprah Winfrey writes a note to Piper Palin'  s teacher after a taping of her talk show on Wednesday.

(Use arrows above to view more photos)

“It was fun,” Piper said in a release from Stapleton. “And I like watching them write the homeroom excuse notes for me.”

The girls were back in school on Monday, but enjoyed their time with the famous interviewers, Stapleton said.

“Oprah and Barbara Walters were very cool and nice,” Willow said. “I enjoyed meeting them and the chance to see Chicago and New York City this time of  year.”

First on the itinerary was the “Oprah Winfrey Show” and a Tuesday evening visit to Gino’s East for its world-famous deep-dish pizza. A tradition at the restaurant is for people of note to write their names on the wall, and Piper wrote hers and her mother’s.

At the studio, “Oprah had gifts for (the sisters) and they got their hair and make-up done,” Stapleton said. Piper received an American Girl doll and Willow the “Twilight” series of books. “And they were both thrilled and excited to get those, for sure.”

The girls sat in the front row while Sarah Palin talked with Oprah, then flew to New York, where they were part of the taping of three segments with Barbara Walters. The Oprah interview was aired on Monday, while the Walters interviews begin airing today on “Good Morning America,” “Nightline” and “20/20.”

In New York, Willow and Piper sat on a couch with their mother while Walters asked questions, including what it was like last year on the campaign trail and if the girls really do like eating moose chili.

But it was Piper’s request for excuse notes for her teacher that tickled the hosts, Stapleton said.

“Oprah was hysterical,” she said. “You could tell she thoroughly enjoyed writing it. She not only reacted well, but it was definitely the backstage scene. She was absorbing and loving every moment of it.”

THE NOTES

Following are transcripts of the excuse notes Oprah Winfrey and Barbara Walters wrote to Piper Palin’s third-grade teacher, Ms. McKay:

Dear Ms. McKey (sic),

Please excuse Piper (my new friend) from homeroom class.

I asked that she appear on the Oprah Show.

Unfortunately we’re in Chicago. Not Alaska. So she had to miss a “few” days for traveling.

All the best, Blessings.

Oprah Winfrey

Dear Ms. McKay

Please allow Piper to be with me for an interview.

Thank you. (I hear you are a wonderful teacher.)

You are so used to seeing President Obama uh and um his way through interviews, he makes it look harder than it is. And so, it looks like he is getting tough questions. Because he is trying to couch every answer to make his statist ideas palatable to the American people.
She knows exactly what she believes and has concrete solutions, so she can rapid fire her answers, coherently, in a logical way, give her answers.
She makes it look easy. Because she doesn't care.

Read Mark Levin's Book Tyranny and Liberty.  It best defines Statists.
Oh to me the best part of the interview was her Couric answer.  She screwed up.  I wish Obama would do the same instead of making excuses about unemployment as he said it would not go over 8% and it is at 10 and climbing.  The 800 BIllion dollar stimulus (with 6 billion going to COngressional districts that don't exists).  HE needs to just say I screwed up.  Same with his campaigning on the importance of Afghan and now we find out he didn't have a plan.  HE needs to say I screwed up and soldiers died.

Nancy,  November 18, 2009 11:55 PM

sandra,
A statist is someone who believes in the concentration of economic controls and planning in the hands of a highly centralized government often extending to government ownership of industry.
This is where President Obama and his administration want America to be, and it is what the tea party movement and Governor Palin are fighting against.
He tries to feint and sidestep what it is he is trying to do, but America is seeing right through him.
We want less government, we want lower taxes, we don't want a transformation of the healthcare system to be run by those in Washington D.C. and we don't want government to take over more industries. We are on the road to ruin, if we let him and Congress ram through their statist agenda.

Interview with Sean was great.   I picked up a basketball and will be the official point guard of Sarah's Booktour Rogues in Cincinnati at the booksigning.  I got my two posters of her and Trigg all done.  And, I'll be ready for her to sign the OTHER sleeve of my C4P shirt.

This is gonna be fun.  I may go to Columbus too and have more fun in the evening.  I can't wait to see the tourbus too.

This was another great interview. I'm glad she is getting more policy questions. She has such a good appropriate stand. I love her conviction.

Recovering Democrat,  November 19, 2009 1:06 AM

I think what Nancy is saying is that Obama has to dial down his socialist worldview during interviews so that the American people won't run screaming into the streets. Oh wait ... they are running screaming into the streets. Apparently it's not working.

I think she really likes Kid Rock. She was listening to him on her Alaska trips last summer. Kid Rock is Republican, I think.

LOL Good Lipstick ... here are a few more:

7. How come you are so amazingly awesome?

8.  Have you always been so amazingly awesome?

9. Is there any way you could be more amazingly awesome?

She can block that garbage can't she on twitter?

Anonymous,  November 19, 2009 1:48 AM

I still haven't been able to find an accurate count of the crowd tonight.  I guess you can never really get a completely accurate one.

I've seen anywhere from 1000+ to thousands, to 2-3000, to 9000-11000.  The last sounds way too high..  Probably somewhere in the 1500-2000 range.  Of course there's a limit on how many can get in, so who knows how many total showed up to try to go.

Still, those crowds certainly measure up to any of the crowds drawn by either Clinton, Colin Powell, Obama, at any of his signings.  Keep in mind that this was in Grand Rapids, a relatively small city, and the others were in NY, DC, Chicago, etc...  Getting 2,000 people in NYC is not that difficult.

Also for comparison, on Dec 19, 2007 Mitt Romney drew his largest crowd of the year for a political event at his Xmas Party in Iowa.  The record crowd?  1,000 or so.  After spending the whole year and tens of millions campaigning.  And going all out to bus supporters in and boost the totals.

You have to love some of these stops.  Billings, MT?  Couer D'Alene, ID?  Norman, OK?  Sioux Falls, SD?  She's going places that no nat'l figure has probably ever set foot in.  A smart move, I think.  Those folks will probably remember who gave them the time of day.

Maybe she can wear a nice #18 Manning jersey tomorrow

Sharon,  November 19, 2009 1:51 AM

Yes he is. There was a real bizarro panel on Larry King the other night and a person called Stephanie Miller nastily said "Why she even quits twitter!" I was dumbfounded by the pettiness.

Sharon,  November 19, 2009 1:52 AM

And where are today talking points that you would like us to push as truth on the American People...

Penny,  November 19, 2009 1:56 AM

I don't know.  My guess is that she never checks her incoming.  The trash Sarah gets tweeted back to her is disgusting.

Just-Sayin,  November 19, 2009 1:58 AM

The NY TIMES interviews the woman who styled Sarah in the Campaign

some behind the scenes info...good overall...she had nice things to say about working with Sarah etc...

Tommy Report,  November 19, 2009 2:13 AM

What's up man.  Long time no talk.

Just-Sayin,  November 19, 2009 2:30 AM

What up!

Yeah it's been a while...life got crazy for a minute but I've been checking in here and there...just never registered after the comment change.

I was gonna ask, do you know if Sarah did an audiobook version of Going Rogue? I remember listening to Obama's a while back lol but I would buy it if she did one too.

Anonymous,  November 19, 2009 2:43 AM

So the NYT interviews the stylist and she basically confirms Sarah's account  That she had nothing to do with the shopping, with picking the clothes, that it was all done in a rush to get clothes for her, the whole family, even Ricky Hollywood apparently.  It included the 50K+ for the stylist's fee, that Sarah also had nothing to do with.  A few outfits each for 7 people, shoes, probably some jewelry and other accessories, getting extra outifts in case some didn't fit or work out.  It all adds up.  But the bottom line is that it was no big deal.  No tax dollars were used.  It was all private.  The DNC spent the same amount on similiar things.

It must have pained the NYT terribly to write "It's all true" after describing Palin's account.

Palin could have spoken up and said something but the clothes were already all bought, things were very rushed, and I'm sure she had many other things on her mind.

Still, much ado about nothing.  Of course the NYT reports this over a year later.

And how about how they throw in towards the end that she's "a size 4 or size 6".  That's incredibly insulting to most women to mention their clothing size without their approval.  It's like mentioning their weight.  Yet another gratuitous dig at her.

KeeleyH,  November 19, 2009 2:48 AM

This interview with Sean Hannity is the most confident I've seen her. She's done so many interviews with Hannity that she seems most relaxed around him. I think it's just a matter of her getting used to these national interviews. She wasn't as natural around Barbara Walters as she was with Hannity, but even Barbara thought she came across very confident.

All this talk of her being rogue is really Sarah better at being a leader than a follower. Truth be told, being #2 was never a good fit for her, or for any mavericks for that matter. As I was listening to her talk about the campaign and her being puzzled that Rev. Wright was never allowed to be mentioned, I found myself agreeing with her but at the same time understanding that following campaign (McCain's) order was her job as VP. It's the same with pulling out of Michigan. Whether or not she was right about Michigan, it wasn't her choice to make because she was only the #2. McCain was the only person who could tell the campaign what they should or shouldn't do.

She's very bold in pointing out that political correctness will be the country's undoing. One might think that she's playing with fire, but the Ft. Hood incident is becoming glaringly obvious that political correctness has gone amok. I think many people will agree with her.

I'm just glad that she's now her own boss again. I can't wait to see her grow in her new role.

techno,  November 19, 2009 2:57 AM

I may have a different take on the interview the most of you but as Sarah says 'I call it like I see' I shall endeavor to do the same thing:

1) Sarah was her normal ebullient, easygoing self which is not bad, but I prefer her from a political standpoint how she looked in the Barbara Walters interview. I wish I could explain why Sarah appeared to have more gravitas with Bawa, as she was when she did the Lauer interview in June. Part of being presidential is looking presidential. IMHO, Sean and Sarah get along too well. Sarah knew that Sean would not ambush her; she could afford to let her guard down. Perhaps I am been too picky. An apolitical voter would have seen Sarah as genuine and sincere; for me Sarah was just a wee bit too comfortable because she knew Sean would not challenge her. I expect Bill O'Reilly will do a better job of making Sarah less comfortable and more serious.

2) Here are what I thought were Sarah's best answers

a) The Fort Hood killer and the need to profile him
b) Afghanistan and the surge strategy contrasted with the dithering of Obama
c) referring to Obama's associates/czars as radicals
d) "I told you so" -referring to Mirandizing terrorists
e) the Jeremiah Wright issue-'we missed the boat'
f) her discussion of district 23
g) acknowledgement of Thumping, Alinsky and Emanuel's role in her resignation

3) Here are what I thought were sub-par or non-responsive answers:
a) to the question of shooting down Israeli planes over Iraq before entering Iran as recommended by Brzezinksi-her answer about bringing Russia into the conversation did not make a whole lot of sense
b) That Sarah refused to brand Obama as a socialist which she did in interviews several months ago or a radical even though she mentions that Obama's associated with radical types. I think that Sarah has been told by consultants or she has concluded through polling data that any mention of the 'socialist' or 'radical' label when referring to Obama turns off the voters, especially independents, in a huge way and also does not help her to build a bridge to the more moderate side of the GOP. Better to tone down the rhetoric and let the right-wing talk show hosts carry the water or do the heavy lifting for her of calling Obama a Marxist or Fascist. I call the answer sub-par from my personal point of view, but politically I think she made the right move.
c) But I think major sub-par or non-responsive answer was at the end of the interview when Sean Hannity asked her what she would say if she ran in 2012 and was asked the question of whether she could give assurances to the American people that she would not quit as POTUS because of investigations. Sarah did fine in justifying why she resigned as governor but totally ignored the gist of the question. I know many folks at C4P think I am being overly critical but folks from strictly a political point of view IMHO one of the main reasons that so many people don't think Sarah is qualified to be POTUS is quite simply because she will be perceived as a quitter by too many Americans and that the Dems and Obama will use 'the quitting meme' as a club to beat her over the head with. I'm glad Sean asked the question tonight because Sarah has 2 years to figure out a satisfactory answer for that question and as God made little green apples if she does not, she might not even get the nomination.

4) In conclusion I think the interview firmed up her base and may have attracted more independent conservatives to her tent but IMHO there are still millions of skeptics out there who are fixated on 'the quitting meme' and until Sarah deals with that to their satisfaction, these folks, mostly sophisticated partisans or independents will continue to be Huckabee or [...]

Read by Sarah. Always #1 At Amazon Audio Books. Out in a week or so.

A,  November 19, 2009 3:01 AM

Not too insulting if a 4 or 6.

Of course this was in her "heavy after Trig" phase.

Hopefully no one will say that now she is a zero.

Just-Sayin,  November 19, 2009 3:08 AM

Right On. thanks A.

techno,  November 19, 2009 3:17 AM

And I did forget I did like her mea culpa re: the Couric interview.

In America everybody deserves a second chance, especially if he/she admits he/she screwed up.

I wish Bill Belichick would follow the same formula.

KeeleyH,  November 19, 2009 3:25 AM

I agree with you about the last question. She didn't really answer it. But she is not running for POTUS right now. If she decides to do so, she will have 2 years, maybe a year and a half, to figure out a satisfactory answer. Or, maybe the answer will be self-evident by then.

As for the comfortable vs. serious thing, she has to be comfortable first before she could be effective and convincing. I felt that she was comfortable enough with Hannity that her answers came out more naturally.  With Barbara Walters, she was more serious, but it was more "guarded serious", and her answers didn't flow as naturally. Still, she did fine in the Barbara interview. What she needs to do is keep doing interviews with the same hosts over and over -- Wolf Blitzer, Matt Lauer etc. and get to know new ones and repeat them -- David Gregory, Stephanopoulos etc.. In other words, she just needs to become a "veteran" and let the voters get comfortable with her. What she needs is to be able to go on any show and be on first name basis with the hosts and say "Hi xxx, it's good to see you again!" When she gets to a point of "comfortable serious", people will be comfortable with her, too.

Here's an article discribing the book signing in Grand Rapids,MI. Mostly fair but peppered with jeers.
"For them Palin is not a liberal media joke or a stumbling backwoods politician who fluffed her chance at the big time. She is a truth-teller and their last best hope against the encroaching horrors of socialism. She is St Sarah of American Capitalism."

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/nov/19/sarah-palin-book-tour-kicks-off

"As the first groups of fans were ushered into meet her it was hard not to read significance into the triumphant-sounding country song playing out of the store's sound system.
It was American Idol star Kellie Pickler's Red High Heels and as the masses shuffled up the stairs to meet Palin the chorus rang out: "I'll bet you want me back now don't you, don't you? I'm about to show you just how missin' me feels. In my red high heels."
Much of the American public has been missing her and Palin's heels are definitely back in US political life. But exactly where they will take her few can predict."

Sheya,  November 19, 2009 3:31 AM

Techno
I think this interview was a home run. People seem to forget that she isn’t running for anything now. At this point all she needs to do is to repair the image the media portrayed her, and let people see the Sarah Palin the person, not Sarah Palin the candidate. People need to get to like her first she’ll worry about the politics later. Being comfortable around Sean only helped.

Regarding the “how will you answer the quitter question”. I believe she’s dodging the question on purpose. There is no way she can really respond to the question without implying that she’s running. Where she stands now, she isn’t running for anything so it’s an irrelevant question, at this point. If and when she runs, she knows this will be the first question and you can bet she’ll knock it off in her announcement speech.

If Oprah and Barbara THINK (and indications are that they sometimes do), they'll realize that such precious children come from really terrific parents----and those women will respect Sarah more than they probably intended to initially.

TexMex,  November 19, 2009 3:38 AM

Don't know if someone else posted this link, but it's Gayle King talking about Palin's visit on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Gayle, despite her passionate support of Obama, said that Palin disarmed her immediately and that she was warm and that she just "so darn likable" Part 1 talks about Palin and a little bit into Part 2. The Brit chick tried to see if Palin was different w/o the cameras on her, but Gayle didn't bite at that. She said, no, Palin is a friendly and confident woman.

Part 1
Part 2

Calling Obambi a radical-socialist scum bag would be the wrong kind of press while the Prez is overseas.

KeeleyH,  November 19, 2009 3:58 AM

Very interesting. Thanks for the clips.

KeeleyH,  November 19, 2009 4:01 AM

Love the "St Sarah of American Capitalism"!

Mountain Mama,  November 19, 2009 4:11 AM

Hiya, dear Techno:

I haven't witnessed ANY politician who can swing back-to-back interviews, or campaign for endless hours day after day and week after week, who doesn't make a few gaffes.  It's just part of being a human being:  we make mistakes, especially when we're bored or stressed.

But it's our solid, loyal friends who give us the best, most constructive feedback----and you're a loyal Palinista, Techno.  I hope Sarah is reading what you've written, because it will help her tremendously.

Regarding Sarah the Quitter:  she HAS explained her decision very well in several interviews.  She knew the ethics charges would keep coming, making it impossible for her to govern peaceably, costing Alaskans more precious treasure, not to mention costing her family, too----so it just made sense to hand her job over to her loyal successor, who would carry on her goals, and make it possible for her and her family to achieve some healing (after being so brutally slammed by the Lame-stream media and the Obots).

I'm upset about something else:  it was Greta, I think, who mentioned in casually something that I wish she'd considered more seriously before stating----namely, that Sarah travels without a lot of help, "Just her and Todd," as Greta put it.  I hope to GOD that Sarah and Todd have really excellent security on hand.

Wouldn't it be cool if each area where she'd be signing books would help the Palins by making available as her guards volunteers from local, off-duty police officers who are also conservative Palin supporters?

I also wish that each bookstore would require fans to go through metal detectors BEFORE they approach the area where Sarah will be sitting to sign books.

techno,  November 19, 2009 4:33 AM

You do have a point there, but I wished she would have said something like, "In 2012 in whatever capacity I decide to serve,  America will be able to see that I am not a quitter, that I am actually a fighter with a steely resolve and that I have actually followed my dad's advice and reloaded, that I have decided to advance in a different direction that has proven fruitful and beneficial to the American people."

That answer would have been far better IMHO and would not have locked her in for a presidential run.

Recovering Democrat,  November 19, 2009 10:06 AM

I thought her best explanation of the quitting meme was with Mark Levin... she talked about the peculiar characteristics of Alaska ethics laws where the governor is PERSONALLY responsible for covering legal fees incurred, as well as the fact that anyone can bring a charge without having to pay any cost if the charge is dismissed. These flaws in the ethics laws will be addressed, apparently in the upcoming session of the Alaskan legislature. I think that when they address those flaws Sarah should release a press statement applauding their efforts and explaining that future governors won't be hamstrung and that this will ensure accountability both in government and to those who would attempt to frivolously impede an administration for political motives.

Secondly, regarding her answer on Iran and Israel  ... Techno, she was absolutely correct in bringing up Russia because as I understand it Russia has been in talks with Iran to sell Tehran anti-aircraft technology. So, in the context of Israel's ability to launch a pre-emptive strike against Iranian nuclear sites, Russia possibly would be aiding Iran against those strikes. Sarah could flesh this out a bit more, but when I heard her answer, I knew that she was well-informed of the issues involved there. Recently Netanyahu visited Moscow to block this defense technology to Iran, so it's all very interconnected. And Sarah would never recommend shooting down Israeli jets, of course. That's just ridiculous. Maybe she should have more strongly condemned that stupid statement by the former Carter advisor.
